It pains me now to write this review, only because the quality of the food here USED to be incredible! Dined here last night with my husband. We were 2 of 6 customers dining. It took a while to get our sodas, which should have been a clue. We ordered two combination dinners. My beans, rice and enchilada were alright, the tamal was inedible. The masa and pork tasted old (if it wasn't for the beef/Chile sauce, it probably would have smelled horrible). My husbands tostada had only a corn tortilla, meat and cheese sauce, and neither plate had any lettuce, tomato, sour cream or garnish. Again, had I been writing this a year ago, it would have been much different. It would have been 5 stars for the best tacos and sopes. What a shame.

Restaurant was somewhat hard to find. The GPS seemed to be off by a few blocks around here, and road work was in progress out front on the Beltway. However, those things are not the restaurant's fault. It is in a big shopping center. Turn in east, just north of where the high tension power lines cross the Beltway. So, I'd watch for the tall electrical towers. I give this restaurant a four, overall.

Clean restaurant. Great Mexican food. As close to authentic as it gets here in Decatur AL. Nice menu selection. Every Mexican restaurant serves the same menu; not this place. Highly recommend the pastor on a JM Taco!

Being the only person here on a Saturday night should have clued me in. Think elementary school cafeteria Mexican food....

Out of the 5 Mexican restaurants I've tried in Decatur this is the BEST one in my non-humble opinion! The menu is not what you'll find in a typical restaurant because you won't have the option to order a quesadilla stuffed with runny, bland shredded chicken. Here they have delicious grilled chicken, steak, pastor, and grilled tilapia. I love the selection of unique tacos, each one offers a different blend of flavors, and it really seems like they've put a lot of effort into creating the menu. So far I've tried the Fresco, Ranchero, Cancun, and Santa Fe. My favorite is the Santa Fe because the chorizo adds a great punch of flavor that accents the grilled chicken. The extra grilled veggies and guacamole makes it taste like a full entrée on it's own. I did have to eat it with a fork and knife because the tortilla was so stuffed with goodies that it was difficult to pick it up and bite without ruining my business attire. In second place is the Fresco with pastor because of the freshness of flavors. The pastor was delicious and paired wonderfully with the grilled veggies. The Cancun with grilled tilapia was also delicious but I'm partial to anything with pico de gallo. The fish was perfectly grilled and didn't fall apart. I wasn't as crazy about the Ranchero because the flavors weren't quite as bold as the first two BUT if you love creamy, cheesy tacos this one is for you. Rice and beans are not as impressive as the tacos but the prices are very reasonable so I can forgive the unimpressive sides. Salsa was decent and chips are good. My observation: You get better quality and portions when eating in. My coworker and I ordered to go and when she came back there was one small bag of chips and a small individual size container of salsa for two orders. It was basically enough for one person and I felt like we should have gotten enough for two considering we had two orders. There was also only a small scoop of beans with my tacos. I'm glad this wasn't my first experience and knew that this was not what you receive when dining in. Plus your tacos get soggy by the time you make it back to the office. I'm saying this because I just don't want someone to pick up a to-go order, be highly disappointed, and not give them another chance. The reason it's on my "Top 100 Dishes to Try list" Santa Fe taco and Fresco taco with pastor The BEST tacos I've ever had!

They are doing something right here. The food never disappoints and the price is unbeatable. Everything I have tried tastes authentic and fresh. The place is always clean and I never smell like a plate of stale fajitas when I leave like I do at most Mexican restaurants. One thing I love about the menu is that it is very customizable. They have lots of different tacos and you pick your meat. You can mix up the different types of tacos if you want to try a few rather than two or three of one kind. Their happy hour is CHEAP. And their specials are reasonable as well. Try the Santa Fe taco! It's scrumptious. It's pastor and chicken and it goes together beautifully.

I have recently become obsessed with Tortilla House Grill. It is a great little Mexican restaurant with a huge selection of tacos. I am a big taco fan, and I really love that they have so many options. The food is always made to order, but is ready quickly. The service is fantastic and I've noticed that they are willing to modify any menu item for you if you ask. The Texas taco is seriously the best taco I've ever had, I love my tacos loaded with lots of pico, guacamole, onions, peppers, etc. If you like a good taco, check them out! You'll thank me later.

This place is amazing! I agree with the other reviewers that say that this place is unique among Mexican restaurants. The food is very good and presented differently than I've ever had. They have a creamy jalapeño sauce that is not spicy but is very delicious. I've never had anything like it. My Huarache was great and the corn tortillas are made fresh daily. The server that we had, Irma, was the friendliest and most professional that I've had in a long time. I don't know how they serve this kind of food for these prices!

I was visiting from out of town with my dad and I wanted to try this place out due to the high reviews and man was I disappointed. But that must be because I know real Mexican food due to my Mexican culture.

Found this gem thanks to Yelp. It was AWESOME!!! The Texas tacos are out of the world. My only regret is that this place is not closer to the highway, to make it easier for me to come back.

I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. They had a unique menu and the tacos were OUTSTANDING! But we went back two weeks ago and they have completely scrapped the taco menu and now they have the same menu that everyone else has. On top of that, the food was not even that good when we went ahead and ordered. The tacos they used to have were out of this world. Now they have the same, not homemade tortillas and same gross stuff as every other Mexican place in town. We tried to ask the waiter about it and he said they had had many complaints but the owner did not care and changed the menu anyway. He almost seemed scared to talk about it so I am not sure what that was about.

Talk about authentic!! The menu is small but everything on it is awesome. Perfect tacos and really reasonable on the price. I've been here 3 or 4 times now and will keep coming back. Decatur, please support this restaurant!

Really, really good tacos. Fresh flour and corn tortillas. Fresh salsa and toppings. Very authentic. Tastes like what you get in the SouthWest and in California. Highly recommend. New favorite lunch place.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
