Downtown Dawgs is this cute little hot dog shop next to CF Penn's on Moulton St. I love the atmosphere at this place! The people that work here are so nice and the location inside of an old downtown building really adds to this restaurant's local charm. They have a great menu with lots of creative options; these aren't your average hot dogs. They have several different hot dog choices including beef, turkey, Angus beef, polish, and vegan. So far I have only had the beef and turkey and they are pretty good. The only criticism I have about this place is I really wish the dogs were grilled. I think they are boiled and I really think they would taste better if they would at least throw them on the flat top for a minute when you order them. Other than that, they are fabulous and this place is definitely one of my favorite lunch spots in Decatur! I'm an adventurous eater and I am determined to try every hot dog on the menu.

I love this place. The food is really good. The only problem is that it is a little more expensive than it should be. Staff is friendly. Dog of war is great and so is the southwest dawg.

Excellent hot dog place on Moulton Street in downtown Decatur. Good quality meats and buns, lots of toppings available. They have a number of specialty dogs on the menu, but will build any to your specifications. My favorite is the Downtown Dawg, to which I have them add kraut.

Just had lunch there today! Cute atmosphere and good hotdog! Reasonable price...my lunch without dessert was around $5. I had the slaw dawg and my only complaint is the celery seed in the slaw. Personally I would rather my slaw have just cabbage and mayo! Lots of guys stopping by for a hotdog and you can have just about ANYTHING on your dawg! I had the sweet tea which was good as well. Will be visiting again!

Specialty Hot Dog restaurant. Recently opened in downtown decatur. They are currently open only for lunch. I just had the traditional "Chicago" dog and a "Dawg of War". Both were excellet choices. I topped off my lunch with in-store made banana pudding. Great new lunch place.

Love this locally owned hot dog joint. Why 5 stars for hot dogs? Because it's local and the folks running it are so friendly and welcoming. Plus it satisfies a hot dog craving. I tried the Italian beef on the first day they started serving it. If you like shredded roast beef then you'll really like this sandwich. They dip the inside of the bread with the au jus. The giardiniera is tangy and you can ask for it to be a spicy. Even spicy it didn't leave a lot of heat on the tongue so don't be a pansy. This isn't the BEST Italian beef I've ever had but it was still delightful. So far I've tried the New York, Reuben, and a bite of the Philly. All were very good. They put a load of toppings on top of the juicy dog. The New York is my favorite from Sonic but DD's is much better. So far the Reuben is my favorite loaded with kraut, shredded swiss cheese, and thousand island. There's a variety of dawg options plus a build your own. I plan on making my way through the list. They also have beef, angus beef, turkey, and polish sausage options for your wiener. So far I've only had the beef and it is very flavorful. You can get white, wheat, or poppy seed buns. I keep forgetting to order poppy seed but have every intention to. Most of the dogs are $2.99. When I started considering if that was reasonable to pay that much for a hot dog I thought. Well Sonic's are just a little less than that and a lot smaller. And Sonic's attitudic little employees stand there in the drive-thru lane hesitant to give you your change back because they expect a tip. So, fellow tight wads, suck it up...pay a little more for quality food and service and support a local who really cares about their patrons.

GREAT hog dogs with lots of options. I love their varied and unique topping options on their specialty dogs, but if for some reason you can't find a specialty dog to suit your tastes, you can always build your own dog. It's hard to beat the prices either (chips, drink, and a specialty dog for under $5). Their lemonade is super awesome and the staff is as friendly as you'd hope for from a Southern, locally owned restaurant.
