Second trip for the three of us. First time, about a month ago, we had the blackened shrimp alfredo, steak salad, and chicken parm. The alfredo sauce was well made and very rich as it should be; the steak salad was well a steak salad - the meat was a perfectly cooked med. rare on top of nice greens; the chicken parm was good - fresh chicken, properly pounded out, tender, covered with cheese and served with a side of linguine pomadoro - the pomadoro sauce was classically made with high quality Italian tomatoes. Only downside was the chicken appeared to have been cooked in a deep fryer instead of sautéed. Not the way to do "good" chicken parm., imo. Because we enjoyed thoroughly enjoyed this first visit, we returned. Second visit: Spring scampi - very good with a nice rich sauce and plenty of shrimp. Carbonara - also very good with the proper smokiness of the pancetta, peas, egg and high quality parmesan cheese. This is a tough dish to make well but the cook pulled it off perfectly. Veal parm. - A big disappointment. Although good veal was used (not a frozen, pre-made cutlet) and it was properly pounded thin, breaded and then, omg, cooked in a DEEP FRYER instead of sauteed. (Now I know the chicken parm was deep fried, too.) The veal was overcooked and tasted burned. And then the two veal cutlets were just plopped on top of a pile of angel hair covered with a sauce that resembled a ragu. It was just awful. A side of spaghetti pomodoro, linguine with garlic sauce, or fetticuine alfredo would have been much better. So my question, What good cook puts chicken and veal parm. in a deep fryer? A couple of other observations. The second visit was at dinner time, and night time. Upon entering the lights were so bright we thought we had walked into a cafeteria or something akin. And there were lit candles on the tables, too. Go figure. We had to ask that the lights be turned down, which was nicely and promptly done. We now had the setting for a intimate dinner. Waitress was new and did not have even a decent grasp of the menu - so training is needed. Fresh hot bread was served but not sliced through, so we all had to rip it in pieces. The wine list needs work and depth, although we had a nice Felino/Paul Hobbs Argentinian Malbec - the only good wine on the menu. The herbed butter was very good but a bit too salty. There was a guy (owner, partner, consultant?) in shorts and flip flops who set up an office in the front corner of the restaurant, where he did computer work the entire time we dined, and from which he would often get up, go to the kitchen and then return to his "little office." Really. In the front of the house? This does not make for a nice restaurant where diners have watch a guy doing his work. Bottom line: This is a good restaurant serving good food, some of it very good. It can be a very good restaurant serving very good, high quality italian and other foods. However, it must first figure out what kind of restaurant it wants to be. It needs to train its wait staff better. It needs to ditch the deep fryer. Replace the usual red checkered plastic table coverings with white tablecloths. And that guy needs to get his gosh darn office out of the front of the house. And at dinner time there should be a dinner atmosphere, etc., etc. Just my thoughts. We definitely will return and look forward to some positive changes.

A solid 5-stars for the creative fusion of Cajun and Italian. My wife had the shrimp and grits...a creamy combination of shrimp over polenta and then covered with remoulade with scallions, tomatoes and smoked bacon. I had the amazing Cajun grouper. A nice pan seared grouper on top of a wonderful boudin cake and dressed with a nice cole slaw...then drizzled with warm pepper jelly. We will be back!!!

We've been to La Rosso about six or seven times since they relocated here from the Eastern Shore Center. This location, with its checked table cloths and cozy decor is much more appealing than the former location. The food is always very good and the service friendly and attentive. My favorite dishes so far have been the chicken marsala and the beef with a bordelaise sauce. My husband really liked the beef teriyaki and grouper served on a boudin cake. Would definitely recommend it!

This place has been on our bucket list of places to try for months. We finally made it last night. Walking in, we were pleasantly surprised to see it was more casual than what we expected. It has plastic tablecloths, and you can feel comfortable enough to go in wearing shorts. I also loved that they had K-Love playing on the radio. Our waitress greeted us as soon as we walked in and seated us. We told her we were first timers, so she made sure to tell us about her favorite dishes and about the chefs. We decided to start with the NOLA bread. The sauce was so good I was scooping it up with a spoon. The little toast pieces really took away from the flavor of the sauce, in my opinion. Still, it was good. For our entrees, I decided on the chicken Marsala. It came with fresh steamed veggies and linguini with Alfredo sauce. I could tell the Alfredo was made from scratch because the Parmesan wasn't completely melted. (If you're a cook, you know how hard that is to pull off). My hubby had some sort of seafood pasta, which was heaping with a variety of seafood and a red gravy. We were both very pleased. Even though we were stuffed, we couldn't resist topping off the meal with a special chocolate cherry custard the chef prepared for that night. That was a great choice because it was divine. They had a nice wine list, but we opted for tea instead. There are several other items on the menu I want to try. I'm pretty positive it's authentic Northern Italian cuisine. Like all restaurants in this area, there were a few Cajun dishes on the menu as well. They have a very large selection of perfectly prepared homemade desserts as well. It's slightly pricey for casual dining, but not ridiculously expensive. I think we spent about $70, which included a 20% tip. The food quality and service were great though. We will definitely be regulars.

Great food. Their bread and butter was even delicious. This place deserves to do better. If the people in this town would just step out of their comfort zones for a minute and try new things they would be pleasantly surprised by the delicious food here. Give it a shot. The dish I had (boudin balls & primavera) was on par with food found in New Orleans.

Incredible red beans and rice! Ask for a table in Rose's section, and follow her suggestion of Nola Bread as an appetizer.

Absolutely love this place. We first went to the location in the Eastern Shore Center and by the time we went back it had closed and moved even closer to us! We've been here for lunch every time and enjoyed the food and the employees so much! The first two times the chef came out and talked to us about the food and how he prepares it. I am always pleasantly surprised by my experience, one time my phone wouldn't even work to use the BOGO half off deal and they did it anyway because they knew they had the deal out there. They have many specials like half off wine bottles one night (I think Friday). Their food really is excellent. I've had a sandwich, pasta, and even a burger that was a specialty. They are all great! Truly a different style and a different type of restaurant. Give it a try!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
