A lot has changed since this place opened. Prior to Old Mexico closing in Daphne, this place was packed EVERYTIME I drove by there. Now that Old Mexico closed, it's like they declared victory and no longer care. This place had a special meaning to me. It was my father and I's "Father/Son" place to eat from day one. We last ate here 11/30/14. My dad passed on Jan 9 2015. I've been eating here on and off since it opened. The food is good. I can honestly say I have never ordered something and not liked it. Food is hot, freshly made and it's a good value. I agree with other reviews, they load you up on food! But. The service is hit or miss. Sometimes its outright horrible. I don't think Daniel (the manager for the longest time who was VERY customer service) is there anymore. Thus its getting 3 stars. I still eat there. I just say a prayer for a good server before I walk in.

Yucky! Worse Mexican food ever! I'm thinking the people who eat here have never ate "real" Mexican food. The salsa that comes with the chips is can salsa. The beans and rice are totally not traditional Mexican food. They use lots of can ingredients and the food isn't fresh at all. The margaritas are terrible. Very disappointing. And the sad things is, they own all the other Mexican restaurants in this area. Don Carlos Mexican Restaurants and Agave. Just disappointing. Don't go here.

We initially tried this restaurant because we had a coupon from the "FundRays Savings Book." This book has introduced us to some restaurants we may not have tried otherwise. We liked El Rancho's chips and salsa, and the chicken enchiladas served with a simple guacamole salad were really good -- a lighter alternative to the usual sides of rice and refried beans. Also, the service was very friendly and efficient. We will definitely be returning!

Yummy food. This restaurant claims to be the sister restaurant ot Don Carlos, but do not be fooled. Don Carlos is disgusting...see my review on it. El Rancho, however is great! Terrific service, tasty, fresh food and it's clean! I could not say that about Don Carlos, that is for sure. I like their warm, fresh chips and salsa they give you right off the bat. If your food has an option to get cheese sauce, get the freakin cheese sauce. It's a tangy white melted queso..you won't be dissapointed. The only thing I can say I do not like is that they use preformed toaco shells for their crispy tacos. If I want authentic tacos, we go across the street to Los Tacos to get it. Other than that, this is the closest to home (Califonia) as I have been able to get in a Mexican Food restaurant past Texas.

First time here. Sat @ the bar. Good service Food was not too bad. Had the guacamole appetizer. Not bad but lacking a bit of salt & pepper. Ordered the seafood enchiladas. Didn't realize they smother them in their cheese sauce (just don't remember if I saw that on the menu). Otherwise they were pretty good. Will come back & try it agIn.

This is my first time eating at El Rancho. I rated it 3 stars because the food was okay but pricey and the service sucked. I had the Nachos Special. To make it unique, the restaurant uses fried flour tortillas instead of traditional corn tortillas. I felt like I was eating a lot of cheesy bread instead of nachos. The salsa and chips were probably the best part of my meal, but even the chips were not the best. They were fried too hard and very thick. The service was horrible. I was sat immediately and it was 10 minutes before anyone came to take my drink order and another 5 minutes to get salsa and chips. After placing my order, it took another 10 minutes for my food to come from the kitchen. There were only 2 other guests in the restaurant besides myself. After bringing out my food and drink, I never saw my server again until he brought the check and he just laid it on the table. I got the check quicker than I got my food.

We walked in and no one came to seat us at table even though they saw us standing there. The restaurant was not even close to being full so that wasn't a reason. The salsa and margaritas were fantastic but the rest of the food was less than edible. The guacamole tasted more like it was made from paste. Our server was attentive and very nice. We will not be going back to this restaurant.

Not as inexpensive as I'd think considering the quantity and quality of the food. Servers are reasonably polite. I find the food often bland and not consistent in terms of quality.

We always enjoy eating here. The food is good and the prices are fair. They feed you good here!

Very, extremely average. I give 3 stars because I saw our waitress stumble and pour an entire pitcher of iced water on the group behind us. Priceless! And since they were thunking my side of the booth all night it could not have been better planned. Chips/salsa were fine. There were bottles of hot sauce on the table, which were needed. The "green" one had become paste - eeww. The guacamole was excellent - very fresh and tasty. Besides that the menu was average, our food was typical and it won't be on my go-back list. Oh - I was a water drinker (hence the soaked young people nearby), but my beau had two vodkas, that were extremely liberal and very cheap. We did have a funny sidebar about how all Mexican restaurants in the U.S. look the same - because this place is exactly what you imagine in Any City America off of the Interstate.

GREAT Food but the service was above and beyond anything I've ever experienced. Our server was friendly, attentive and super helpful. Even when I realized days later I'd left my wallet behind, they were nice enough to send it to me intact! THANKS MARTHA and STAFF!

My husband and I went in last night and after a third disappointing visit I'm not sure if we will try again! We arrived around 8pm and greeted promptly after being seated, but that was the last time there was anything aside from mediocre to the service. Our appetizer was good as usual, but I will say trying to eat spicy churrizo dip with nothing to drink isn't my favorite thing to do. Eventually we received refills as our food came out. I had ordered the Enchiladas Verdes which have always been my favorite, but last night the sauce was sour. I waited for our server to come back and check on us,but he was too busy cleaning to come back until my husband had already finished his entree to even bother! Finally I was able to order a couple of quick taco's and ate by myself! Between the lackluster service over the previous times and the eh it's ok food when it used to be one of the best around I don't think we will return for a while and see if they can fix their issues.

WILL NEVER RETURN.... Walked in and were seated right away as there were only about 6 people eating at this place. We ordered our drinks and they came pretty quick. Ordered an appetizer and our entrees, everything came to the table at once. Doesn't an appetizer suppose to come first and then when finished with it your entrees? Appetizer was 8 Jalapeño Poppers, out of the eight one was still almost frozen. Food was not the best, food was luke warm when it should have been hot. Server's seem to have an attitude. Had a 10% off coupon which we could not use because one of my party had ordered the special of the night, so instead of a 15% tip he got a 5% tip so I still got my 10% discount. This was my 2nd trip here and my last. Both times the wait staff seem to have a little bit of edge to there attitude which I don't care for. I guess it's a hit or miss and both my trips have been a miss.

The food and service were great. We'll definitely be back. It was a little $$$, but a very good experience.

We tried a few of the combination plates and they were all excellent. The chili relleno with chicken was recommended by our server. Normally I order it with beef but I went with his suggestion and it was great. There was a lot of chicken! The beef taco was a fried flour shell and it too had a lot of ground beef. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Almost the worst Mexican food I've ever had. Their menu is repetitive and if you want to substitute grilled chicken for the regular (read: flavorless) shredded chicken, you have to order something else that costs twice as much and change it. I wanted grilled chicken tacos, to get that I would have had to order something that was 11 dollars and substitute grilled chicken. The regular shredded chicken tacos were 6 bucks. My friend wanted something simple (a burrito, taco, and rice), he was told it would be like 20+ bucks. Most Mexican restaurants I've been to will make anything you want. They don't do that here. The food wasn't "bad" but it was barely average. We didn't have any margaritas or anything so I can't speak for that. Our waitress didn't seem to care much and apparently didn't have a clue what was on the menu. I wouldn't go back, ever.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
