This is our favorite Mexican food place on the ES. Fast thorough service and dependable tasty dishes that are consistently prepared. The carne asada burrito is one of my favorites there. Good for large groups of people, too, since the space is huge.

Your regular ole Tex Mex place. They did have a live band here, which was a surprise and pretty cool. Food was not bad, no drink specials and the alcohol is high, so be prepared to shell out a little. Service was fine and speedy.

Chips and salsa is all about it has going on for it. The waiter Joaquin is a nice go. I ordered the Burrito Loco and I think I would rather be Loco then ever eat that again. Chicken and small pieces of beef? It tasted bad when you get to any part of it. It's lathered in some kind of cheese sauce then put into a microwave for about a minute. Trust me. The food is not great, and now I feel sick.

Me and wife decided to try don carlos again after having a bad experience about a year ago and its apparent after this time we will not be back. Their food has No taste to it at all and was served at room temperature instead of being Hot. My wife ordered a side of guacamole and it came out in a super small bowl and when we went to pay our bill they charged us $2.75. We could not believe that because an extra side of sour cream was only .75 We then asked to speak with the manager and he claimed the price was justified because they got their avocadoes from Mexico (yeah right). Do yourself a favor and skip this place...

Enchiladas supreme was average - lettuce was wilting and brown on top - Waited some time for our drink order but the server was apologetic and speedy. Chicken quesadilla special was "ok" small portion Fajita when asked the reply was also "ok" So for speedy service, drink specials and ok food - Check''em out

Being a native Texan, I judge heavily on authentic Mexican food. I was somewhat disappointed with the food. My hubby had the combination A with consists of one beef taco, one enchilada with beans and rice on side. His food was warm at best. Sauce did not taste homemade. Mostly tomato sauce instead of meat sauce. My server told me the stuffed jalepeno was with cheddar cheese but actuality it's cream cheese. It too was not homemade. It was confirmed that it came from a box. Sad...since I paid $8 for frozen poppers. He was a nice server. We were sat immediately. If anything, I may come back to try the margaritas during happy hour.

Good fast service with specials each night! Take advantage of those. Friday night is $5 pitchers of beer, wow! our service was excellent and the chips were served warm and salsa was good but not spicy. Not the best food but everything tasted good and was hot and fresh. I did not like the meat in the taco, had some gristle in it. Tamale and enchilada was tasty and not drowned in sauce or buried in cheese thank goodness!

My roommate and I have visited Don Carlos every Wednesday night for the last three years. Although the staff has undergone recent pruning and growth, everyone is friendly and they are good at remembering what you like to eat/drink and sit. I prefer the Burrito Jalisco (#32) and the Pollo Ranchero. Their salsa is really good, although the spiciness varies from week to week depending on who made it.

Good, inexpensive Mexican food. Lunch menu available 7 days a week is a plus. Friendly, attentive servers. Four adults ate there with cheese dip appetizer for $42. I call that a win! Milder, less spicy food a plus for kids. Glad we stopped.

We love the margarita's here and the outside patio! The fajitas are excellent and very fresh. The servers are always very friendly and helpful.

The food was average at best. Nothing was bad, but nothing was great. We had the cheese dip with beef, which was pretty good, but nothing extraordinary. I ordered the 3 taco combo, which I believe was number 19. I asked for grilled chicken rather than shredded, hard shell, meat and cheese only. I received 4 soft tacos with nothing but meat in them. It also showed up with a side of rice and beans, which I just assumed came with the combo. When we received the bill, my food was 11 bucks, and entitled "carne asada taco". The combo I ordered was 6.50 or so. I assumed there would be an additional charge for grilled chicken, and even told the waiter that it was fine if there was an upcharge. But almost double the price? I don't think so. When I asked why it was different on the ticket, our waiter told me they didn't have a way to substitute the grilled chicken and instead had to change it to something more expensive and substitute the steak for chicken. I told him they should really tell someone that next time. The waiter was apologetic. The service was pretty good, our waiter answered our requests pretty quickly. The restaurant itself is nice, and has a nice patio. However $40 for 2 people with tip is a bit expensive, and I only tipped 4 bucks. I doubt we will go back.

Wife and I just had a nice meal here, we're just passing thru on the way to NOLA for a stay. We both enjoyed our combination meals, they were not quite the "generic" sort of Anywhere USA mexican place, there actually were subtle spices at work and differences in flavors from beef variations. Don't get me wrong, maybe there are other meals that are, but our quick experience is not about to label it as mexican epicurean, it's just far better than the usual fare. Very friendly waitress, Dos Equis on tap, about five generic flavors of wine, the Merlot was pronounced as "ok" by my wife. We'd go again. Wife adds. "Nice atmosphere". College football was on big screen TVs (Saturday night) but they weren't intrusive.

One word: disgusting. I have no clue what it is about this place, but nothing tastes good. The tortilla chips that they put out on the table taste burnt (I suspect they haven't ever changed the oil that they fry them in), the chips they use for nachos are just weird, the chicken they use in most dishes is weirdly soft/mushy (think ground canned chicken), and the ground beef is as soft as dog food. I'd never eat here out of my own volition and always get drug here with my boyfriend. It's nasty. I've eaten one thing here that wasn't completely disgusting... the grilled chicken sandwich. Skip this place if you're looking for authentic (or just edible) Mexican.

This was a great place to eat. Great promp service. Food came out quick. Had the beef taco salad hardly any lettuce! Can't wait to go back and eat more good stuff. A+.

  • Jessica L.

Service was quick, but the food wasn't good, especially for the price. We had shredded beef burritos and they contained very little beef. The beans were watery and the rice was nothing spectacular. The lime margarita tasted like it was straight margarita mix.

  • Paul M.

Quiet atmosphere. Asked three times for the TV to be changed to the right game... Slow drink and chip refills. Food was good but overall I was not impressed with this place.

Love this place! We live upstate New York and don't have a real Mexican restaurant. The price is very reasonable and the portions are good sized but not too big. I will come back when I visit again.

Always go for lunch and get the chicken fajitas - very good! Good Margaritas too!

This is the worst restaurant in Daphne, and that's quite a feat. The food is overly salty, and the meat tasted very off. They have an identical restaurant called El Rancho and they claim to use the same recipes. They don't. El Rancho has superior food, service, freshness and ambience. I refused to pay. After speaking with other people who have eaten there, most had the same assessment...No one with any taste I have spoken to has anything good to say about theis restaurant. I have spoken to a couple of people who did like it, but mind you they are the kind of people who eat Hamburger Helper and think they are getting a goumet treat. Go next door to Mellow Mushroom if you are hungry, or hit up Los Tacos for Mexican if you crave it. Counter service Los Tacos is better in ever aspect compared to Don Carlos. And they serve crappy premixed margaritas from a machine. Foul, Foul, Foul! Oh, and the service was so bad, I waited 15 minutes to get a menu, and another 20 for water. It took that long to make such terrible fare? C'mon! They don't even try. There were 2 other patrons int he restaurant and 3 servers talking and laughing at the bar, recounting how drunk they got the night before. If I was not so hungry, and expected the quality of El Rancho, I would have left.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
