A box of deliciousness awaits you at Shipley's. This company is a breath of fresh air from the more well known chains. Their donuts are very reasonably priced ( a mixed dozen was $7.69) and they are huge! The guy at the counter was super patient and friendly as I made my selection from all the choices. Try them out. You can't go wrong.

Today the staff went above and beyond the call of duty! My son who is flying in today, Christmas Eve, from Shanghai, China will be thrilled to discover he will have cinnamon twists for Christmas breakfast! We didn't know that Shipley's was closing at noon today and arrived at 12:04 to discover the doors locked, staff cleaning up, and a full tray of twists in plain view. My husband was ready to abandon all hope but I called on the off chance they would answer. They did, I begged and they showed good Christmas spirit! So, home we go, cinnamon twists in hand, ready to pick up our son and enjoy a wonderful holiday! Thank you Shipley's!

I LOVE SHIPLEYS DONUTS! They are my favorite donuts to et and dare i say, better than Krispy Kreme. We dropped by here on a road trip and were delighted to stuff our faves with freshly made donuts. They were thick and light with the right amount of chew and not overly sweet. They also had some other donut creations that looked good like a butterfinger, but decided to keep things simple. The staff was great as she willing to give us samples and showed great hospitality. The only thing I wish they had were some Tamales like the one in Mississippi. You may think tamales from a donut place would be bad but are so good and better than those from Mexican restaurants. Would definitely come again!

So I've passed Shipley's every workday for over a year and never thought about about this place until recently. I stopped in and picked up a cinnamon twist on my way to work and needless to say, I went back after work before going home. I demanded that my husband try the cinnamon twist (knowing that he wouldn't stop during his morning commute). Plain and simple- heat for 10 seconds & enjoy with morning coffee! Score! Start your day off right......with some happy!

We travel a lot and try a lot of bakeries and donut shops looking for the perfect donut or pastry and the perfect cup of coffee. We happened up on Shipley's Donuts in Hoover. AL. So glad we stopped. I love cherry flavored stuff and they have cherry filled donuts! Score! My wife loves crullers and she was very impressed. Shipley's Donuts is INCREDIBLE! Absolutely INCREDIBLE!

If this had been the first place I ever ate a donut I would never hunt again. This location has been in Alabama as long as I have and never suffered at all. They have a massive variety and the lady working the counter is even sweeter than the donuts she sells. No doubt a mother who keeps her hustle and helped me select all kinds of donuts considering i am terrible at decision making. I personally recommend the blueberry donuts because I am a huge blueberry fan and they do those justice. I also enjoyed the strawberry glazed as well as the coconut glazed. 7 something was my total for a half dozen and I would rather it be less but I didn't mind considering they were all delicious. They also serve something there that resembles a hot pocket but taste 100 times better and won't kill you.

As someone born in Birmingham but raised in Houston (home of Shipley Do-Nuts and Kolaches) I was so happy to learn that my favorite breakfast shop was here when I moved back to Birmingham. They are the best donuts you'll ever eat, and if you've never had a Kolache, do yourself a favor and get one.

Shipley's Donuts are the best in the world. I used to be Krispy Kreme enthusiast, but I haven't been to Krispy Kreme or any other donut place after I went to Shipley's. The donuts are cheep (In my opinion) and delicious. My favorite one is probably the "Bullseye." Its a chocolate donut and in the middle, where there's a hole on most donuts, there is icing and sprinkles. The donut holes are super good too!! They also have a pretty cool rewards program. Every visit you get a spot. 3 Spots= Free Glazed Donut, 4 Spots= Free Coffee, 5 Spots=Free Specialty Donut, and 10 Spots= Free Kolache. If you haven't been, it is definitely worth a try.

This place is an institution in Hoover. It has been there for years. Way before the "Hot n Now" people came to town. Their donuts are amazing. They have all the standard stuff and quite a few fruit filled that can't be found at other places. They also serve kolaches which are great anytime of the day.

One word - kolaches. For those who don't know what they are... it's basically a homemade Hot Pocket. A very soft bread filled with cheese and ham or a sausage link (more like hot dog sausage, not breakfast sausage). They are YUMMY! Their donuts are pretty good, too, but they are NOT Krispy Kreme. They are less sugary and feel a bit more dense - not as airy as the KK donuts. They have a large selection from chocolate covered to custard filled to cake. As someone who really likes Krispy Kreme, I can say these take a bit of adjusting to, but they are good all the same. Definitely give them a try if you're in the area!

Shipley - what can you say other than "it's great". Comparing it to Krispy Kreme will get you nowhere, b/c they're like night and...later that night. Krispy Kreme is all about the glazed doughnuts, whereas Shipley has a much larger selection of less-"yeasty" offerings. Bear claws (my favorite), glazed, chocolate glazed, Bavarian-creme, maple, white iced - basically you name it and chance are they make it, and very well at that. And to support the sentiments of the previous reviewer, the kolaches are ridiculous-good. I've only personally had the pizza kolach (which was killer), but I've got several friends that swear by the sausage one, so it's gotta be worth the try. Plus, they've got a wide variety of milk, juices, and coffee to help get all those d'nuts down the pipes. Bottom line - Shipley is a nice diversion from the sugar-explosion that is KK, and a welcome source of variety in the pastry love o' Alabamer. I think you'll dig it - check it out.

Growing up in Alabama, I thought Krispy Kreme was the be-all, end-all of doughnuts, and all the other brands could never live up to a Hot 'n Now. However, on a trip to Starkville a year or so back, I was having a hankering for doughnuts and tried to find a Krispy Kreme. Luckily for me, I found (again, in Starkville, of all places) Shipley first. When I first walked in, I thought this place would be just another Dunkin-like place, with "doughnuts" that were more akin to a bagel with glaze than anything _I_ would have called a doughnut. However, after my first bite into a maple-glazed-with-nuts, I was like Buddha under the Tree of Enlightenment. I was forever converted to the Army of Shipley. I try and convert others to Shipley, but it's hard with the closest location to Tuscaloosa being this one in Hoover. I tell all who will hear that this place has the best doughnuts around - period. Furthermore, unlike Krispy Kreme, they actually carries a variety of doughnuts and doughnut-related baked goods. As was mentioned in another review, you have to try the kolaches. I think the best testament to Shipley I can give is this: I will drive an hour to get some fresh Shipley doughnuts (well, I did before the gas prices spiked up), but even after the Krispy Kreme in Tuscaloosa was destroyed by the April 27th tornado, I haven't had the same desire for Hot 'n Now doughnuts from Krispy Kreme. In summary, Shipley Do-Nuts rocks!

Good doughnuts. Have stopped in on a couple occasions and I am now a fan. The maple doughnuts great with maple icing. The two varieties of cinnamon roll I had, plain and cinnamon raisin, both delectable. One point off for the lousy pot-hole ridden parking lot. Although, I'm sure that's beyond their control. This place is a tad closer to where I live, although by not much.
