I love the food here. It's incredibly expensive compared to what I'm used to (I'm from California and the prices here are nearly twice as expensive), but it's worth the occasional visit. We love the dol sit bibimbap and the kimchi ji gae. Yum!

The food is great but, as others have mentioned, is very expensive. You may be able to get away with splitting an entree to save a bit, as the portions are large. I had the bim bap, which was very flavorful and unique (I'm somewhat new to Korean). The assortment of kimchis that were provided before the meal were very good as well. We also had some fried dumplings as appetizers that were very good. But altogether, we had two entrees, an appetizer and a cup of tea and it came out to $60 with tip.

I hate places that overprice their food. I've dined all over the United State, I've never seen yukgaejang (usually a $7-$10 dish) for $18. That's like charging $20 for pho, $15 for a California roll, $10 for a taco, $15 for instant ramen, $10 for a cupcake, $10 for a piece of fried chicken, $7 for a biscuit, you get my drift. Even though they were way overpriced, we couldn't find another Korean spot that was open Monday after 2pm. When we sat down, the waiter brought us bottled water, who charges for water?! They're already charging double to triple for their food, why be so cheap and charge for water? Then we saw on the menu that they also charge for bon chons, this was getting pretty ridiculous. I've never been to a Korean restaurants that charges for bon chons, it's a given. Try dining at Outbacks steakhouse and they charge you for bringing out the bread lol...or going to a Chinese/Japanese restaurant, they bring out the miso/egg drop soup then charge you for it. Get outta here!! We got up and walked out and glad that we did.

We were the only people in the restaurant at lunch on Thursday. Super fast service and pretty good food. The big disappointment is the price. Way over priced for lunch and looks like the same for dinner. 15 bucks for lunch and a coke is pricey!

It's pretty expensive for a hole in the wall kind of place, but the food's good, and the portions were big. Service: Waitress Mia is very sweet and provided great service. She's fluent in Korean and English and is just here to help out her family for a year. Food: This restaurant prides itself in organic foods and the non-use of msg. If you're used to msg and high sodium foods, you may think their food is bland. /spicy rice cake - Loved it. It didn't have red pepper flakes (I hate em), and it had noodles, dumplings, and veggies, and I added rice because I'm a pig like that. - I was surprised it wasn't red and spicy. Although it was mild, it was tasty. - meat was really good! Ambiance: Old Korean style. Not modern, but clean. Comfortable and homey. They have multiple TV sets playing Korean shows and American shows. There was an old Korean man and woman sitting in a lazyboy watching tv Bathroom was very clean.

If you know Korean food you will know this is far from it....disappointing. Covered in sesame seeds. Won't come back.

I rated this restaurant 5 stars for the Birmingham area! By far, one of the best and most authentic Korean restaurants I've visited in the BHM area. Being a big fan, soups like Soon Dae Guk (Blood Sausage Soup) and Goat Guk, my favorite here is the fish egg soup. Be ready for a textural invasion for it has several fish egg types in it. From a leathery outside shell you must pierce to get to the good part and discard the shell to what seems to be whole fish roe sacks... truly amazing! And the broth, it is cooked with such care it is a meal in and of itself. Take several trips, start with a Bulgogi (safe) and then start venturing your palate across the menu. Oh and their teas! Read the tea menu and choose for what ails you. I particularly like the Jujube, aids with sleep, and it is fantastic! Now just go eat!

The waiters that handled our dining experience were fantastic, friendly, and by far the sweetest Asian kids that I've ever met in an Asian restaurant in the Birmingham area. They always seem ready to start a conversation and ensure you were satisfied with your Korean food experience. The appetizers were good. The kimchi had some zing and the trays had at least 4 variations of fresh pickles The bulgogi definitely did not taste like bulgogi back in California but it was alright. We cleared this easily. The pork tofu pot was a mild flavor and easily manageable for people like me who are more sensitive to spicy foods. Just give it some time to not sizzle so much or you will cry. Seeing them play Asian concert videos and music videos with a giant 2NE1 poster below the TV sends me back to my nostalgic California Korean restaurants.

Food tastes great with large portions, but be prepared to shell out extra money if you request additional rice, water, and side dishes (i.e., extra kimchi). This is the only place I know where they charge you for additional rice and water. They used to serve water in a glass, but they started charging for bottled water now.

Food are good but the price is overprice. I don't like they charge extra for side dishes, rice, and water since we pay so much for the food already. Not cool Charging extra money without informing people, people will never come back to the dishonest restaurant. I just don't get these kind of people so greedy and cheating to get more money out of people. I will never go back!

Food is good but the prices are ridiculous and overpriced for what you are getting. This is basic traditional Korean food... Nothing fancy $15 for soon tofu / su lung tang / bi bim bap is an outrage. Not only that but they seriously skimp on the site dishes as well. The side dishes are one of the most important areas in having a good vs poor Korean dining experience and they are quite stingy here. To add insult to injury... If you want water they give you bottles water without asking and do not tell you that they are charging you for it. ¢50 is not much... But considering that a meal for two plus tip will already put you out of $35+ makes this icing on the rip off cake. Until they charge a fair price and stop being so stingy with the side dishes, I will avoid this place.

This place is just a garbage. My wife and I came to eat Dolsot bibimbop and stirred octopus with mixed veges(We are from Korea) and my wife received her dolsot with a nasty string of hair in it. It was not a big deal until we spoke to our waitress(skinny woman) about this. she basically said we have to bite the bullet and pay for everything what has been ordered. She didn't even said sorry. She was being more upset than we were which we then became speechless thinking how she could be so shameless. She even said if her boss finds out about this, her boss will be deducting money from her paycheck(wtf?). We came knowing their prices are high so I won't go into that part however their service is just embarrassing. I will never eat here again. So shady.

Gloria W, Here is the original picture before I separated them from a bed of onions. I understand that the place is run by your family and generally, I hate to write bad reviews. However, put yourself in my situation. Wouldn't you be upset? Galbi I received that night was not even close to $24 worthy.. I did not receive 10-12 strips. Now, I did try few soups from the menu and they were actually good. Once again, portion wasn't up to my standard but they were tasty and authentic. I would come back time to time but ya should consider changing the price / portion if you want to attract more customers. I did not know that this place charge extra for additional banchan (side-dishes)...That is quite shocking really... Take care

So you want REAL Korean food?? Here it is! This is one of those "hole in the wall" gems that you think you might not survive coming out. The only reason I gave it three stars is the atmosphere is lacking. Let's talk about the food... Holy wow! The most unusual tastes and smells I could think of. I liked the fish cakes (which really aren't cakes..or fish for that matter) and the edemame (sp?) was the best I've had anywhere. I'm by no means connoisseur of Korean cuisine, however this place is authentic. Quick tip: the prices were a little surprising. For two it was easily about $40.. Throw in tip and your looking at about $50 at dinner time.

Food is just fine compared to other Korean resto rants I have been to. Ridiculous expensive. Charge $2.99 for a small bowl of rice and charge for water, though it's bottled, at least can you ask your customers first before you serve. Waited for 20mins an least after ordering.

The food is very good but I'm baffled at the prices. I came once to try it out but never returned because of the high prices.. Like $20 for bulgolgi..why?! And I'm sorry but it is just really unkempt inside. The owners leave all their junk out and its such an eyesore. They have a good thing going with their food and I just think if they cut their prices in half they would get way more business..at least from me they would. I love Korean food..this is the only place to get things like japchae, tokpokki, Korean pancakes..but I just refuse to pay fine dining prices for hole in the wall food!!

Stopped in for dinner yesterday. Overall, it was okay. The decor is fine, the walls look intersting but tables and booths are a bit dated. Food was decent. I'm a bit partial having spent time in Korea. However I've had better Korean in other cities. The part that gets me was the price. The complimentary sides are small and 30 dollars for galbi is ridiculous. I've never paid more than 15 for the same amount..... anywhere. Food is okay, prices make it not worth it

This was my 2nd time here... Food was tasty. Current (new) owner took over the restaurant about a year ago. Foods are much much better than before from old owner Less salty. I asked why then they are NOT USING MSG... It would be great if they add a little bit more natural seasonings... Tofu soup appears to be very healthy without MSG however I think it requires more natural seasoning I guess, little bit plain... They also charge for water at a minimal price (less than a dollar) per bottle. BEST DISH was SEAFOOD PANCAKE.... AWESOME!!!! Everyone should try....

Only eaten her once before but and never had any proublems with the food or service. Service was very helpful with explaing the proper fourm of eating the Korean cuisine. A lot of the food has some complex spices and flavors. I enjoy the Baby Octopus dish served here but it may not be for everyone. The only reason for the 4/5 stars is the appearance of the restaurant. It is in a strip mall and wouldn't be a good place to impress guest but if your not worried about the towel wrapped booths then this is a place to try.

I grew up in Hawaii and on Guam so Korean food has always been part of my life. I currently live in Florida and there isn't any Korean restaurants anywhere near me! We stopped in on a road trip and decided that we've been missing Korean food too much. First off, no beer which wasn't a big deal but it had been a long drive. Their Korean alcohol was nice though (didn't notice it was $17 until the bill came but didn't matter) The service was excellent and the food was amazing. Had the gal bi and the side dishes were amazing. Sorry we don't live in Birmingham to frequent more often!

This place isn't pretty but it's best Korean in Birmingham. The staff is always friendly and all meals are affordable and come out fast. We usually start with some dumplings and then share an order of bul go gi and order an extra rice. They don't sell alcohol but you can bring your own if you're a raging alcoholic that can't wait 30 minutes to get a drink.

Be warned that they do not offer a lunch menu on Friday and the menu prices seem to have been increased across the board. We were shocked on a recent visit to see that two entrees and two diet cokes set us back $40. Even at dinner, I would find the prices steep. At lunch on Green Springs Avenue, I find it a recipe for a out of business sign. It's good, I respect the time needed to create the dishes but this is the wrong place in town for a $20/head lunch. We will certainly return but only earlier in the week when the lunch menu is offered.

Always good and fast. My hot pot was great and very hot. My husbands fire chicken looked excellent and he raved. A must stop in.

This was my first experience with an authentic Korean Restaurant. The menu is somewhat intimidating if you have no clue what to get. Luckily I had an friend with me that was experienced with this type of cuisine so it was recommended I try the Beef Bento Box. They also had this option with Chicken, Pork, Fish, or Veggie. The lunch special is only $8.99 so a really good bargain. The Box comes with white rice, two small cucumber salads, one somewhat spicy and the other pickled, and 3 fried pork dumplings. The Beef was cooked perfectly for the type of dish they were going for. My only complaint is that it takes a bit long for the food to come out so if you are trying to go for lunch build in a little extra time.

Another Friday lunch adventure. Was shown the review on Yelp! and decided to go for some Korean food. Its been a long since I have had Korean food and this was a nice change. The actual Restaurant is very small, we were seated in the back next to the large TV. Only one waitress and so service was very slow. Was looking for a little variety so went with the Beef Lunch box (Bulgoki) , my coworker got the Spicy Pork lunch box. The waitress asked him how hot he wanted it. He said really hot, 10. She hesitated, and said, asian hot is very hot. so he asked for just below that. Like I said it took a long time to get our food and drink but the food made up for it. I forgot to take pictures but the food was exactly as the photos here. The food was very good tasting, the Kimchi was good, could have had a little bit more but I think it really was the right amount for lunch. Both main courses were very good, the beef was very tasty and the pork was very spicy and good flavor. The fried dumplings were good and not greasy. All in all a good meal, just need another waitress.

my latest secret lunch spot. delicious authentic korean food. service is not the best but the restaurant is never full so food comes out quick. made to order. first timers try a bulgogi box (marinated meat/rice/dumplings/etc. all separate in case you don't like something ;) expect to pay about $15-20/pp as prices aren't their strongest point but the portions are pretty large so you can split or take it home for later. open mondays.

I used to visit this place periodically. It was really great. I haven't been in a while, and I was a bit disappointed in this last visit. Service used to be quicker. Right after you ordered, they'd bring out some appetizers such as kimchi and fermented soy beans, but they didn't bring them out this time until after the main meal was served. Kind of pointless. Anyway, I used to really like this restaurant, but now I am a bit disappointed. The food is still good, service is so so.
