Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Passed by one day and found this place. Wow, a 3rd Vietnamese in Birmingham? I'm thinking, how can this city support 3 Vietnamese restaurants with a Vietnamese population of 2? Ok, it's more than 2, but besides wifey and I, where are you guys?! Anyways, kinda weird layout with it being long and narrow, but the décor was good and modern. Off the bat, the Vietnamese waitress actually spoke Vietnamese! (see my other posts) Food was good. Very authentic. They even have Vietnamese sandwiches, which is a gem that people in Bham have yet to discover. If you have not tried Vietnamese, I would recommend you start here.

It's as good as it gets in Alabama. The spring rolls are amazing and the coconut curry soup is addicting.

Everything everyone said is true. The food and service is excellent. The waiter was not afraid to make recommendations - which is very helpful when you don't get to eat Vietnamese very often. My husband and I were passing through and we ended going back for lunch on our way out of town and again as we passed through Birmingham a week later. The best spring rolls I've ever had.

YUMMY! I love PHO! I had Pho everyday in SoCal and when I got back I was so disappointed that I could no longer enjoy such a yummy yum. I was driving to Target and what do I see? Saigon Noodle House of course! I went it and discovered it was very clean and had several diners. I ordered the veggie pho to-go and let me just tell you it fed myself and my mom! I did not want to give her any because it was so good I wanted it all to myself, but sometimes my eyes are bigger than my stomach. I recommend this to everyone! It is soooo yummy! I have yet to try anything else because it is so good! I will and let you know ;) Go here NOW!

Amazing food. Definately did not expect such authentic pho in such a place that looks like it would be too mainstream. I recommend this place, very good food and very nice staff.

Saigon Noodle House will be closing at 2:30 tomorrow for a private party. They're also closed next Sunday.

Everytime I come back, I'm never disappointed, I now realize this Pho shop can go toe to toe with any Pho places in ATL! They're getting better all the time! The broth is on point, it has the rich deep flavor and a hint of sweetness to balance it out. The meat and noodle are just right!!! I look forward to coming back every time!

If I tell you I eat here at least 3 times per week, would that be too much? Their Pho is amazing as well as their vermicelli soups. Do try the A4, a shrimp and crispy pork spring roll that is killer! Staff is awesome, area is great and they will entertain special plates... blood cake for me! If you have not been come, I am here now...lol.

I have been on a Pho kick and did not realize that Bham had a good place that I probably have driven/walked by a hundred times. The Fried Pork Egg Rolls were fresh and the dipping sauce was delicious. I got the P3 or Pho Tai Nam. Fresh broth with a little bit of sweetness to it. Beef and noodles were cooked to perfection. We will def be back soon to try something else.

Authentic and Delicious. Great menu selection and friendly service. With family owned business, you can definitely appreciate the vibe and taste the tlc!

My friend and I were very happy to discover a good authentic Vietnamese place in the ham :) you might miss it driving into the mall like we did, but it's right when you drive into the mall, next to the Jenny Craig and Halloween store, BEFORE you drive past Best Buy and Nordstrom Rack. Pros: AMAZING service* (see first item in Cons list), reasonable prices, delicious and authentic tasting pho, clean restaurant and pleasant atmosphere, dinner mints by the register (be sure to grab one!) Cons: Not very subtle about trying to get us out of there/they close pretty early even for Sunday's (one star off for that). The beef was a weird consistency... I didn't really like it (chewy/spongy, but this could very well be a personal preference thing). However, the brisket I will say was EXCELLENT. It's one my favorite things about pho and they definitely delivered. I wish they offered a noodle bowl with just brisket...A girl can dream. Tip: Garnish with lime, (please don't be afraid of) bean sprouts, Thai basil, and a dash of Sriracha-- emphasis on the Sriracha. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

I usually only come in here for a quick Thai bubble tea to go, but I finally decided to stay for some food. I was not disappointed! Wasn't sure what I wanted, but I knew I wanted to stick to chicken, so I asked my waitress to pick out anything for me involving chicken, medium heat. She brought me back lemongrass chicken, and she did not choose wrong. The food was very flavorful, and not too spicy for my preferences. It comes with a side of white rice, pho broth, and fish sauce. Well let's just say it was pho-king awesome! Not too expensive for the dish, less than $10, and I had it within 10 minutes of ordering. The only reason I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5 is the atmosphere. The interior could use a little love to match the food.

I have eaten here several times. The food is always fantastic and filling. They can get a bit busy, but always have good service. This may be a small location but it's worth the stop. So far this is the best phoo I have had. With fresh ingredients and good flavor infusion, I'm never let down.

Ain't been able to eat here called to place a to go order and they are closed by 8:30. Why? What's thirty more mins. Damn!

I am so glad I finally decided to try this place out! I ordered the Bun Laksa Thap Cam and it was phenomenal! Such a comforting dish. The service was quick and they were very friendly. I will definitely be visiting Saigon again soon! Also, the Coconut Pearl Smoothie was sooooo good!

Mah, not really a great place. Service is it's best part. Food is just ok, almost disappointing. Not such authentic. The crab that was in my plate was the fake one! The seafood in my dish was veery poor and tasteless. Vegetables were good. Ambiance is basically borrowed from good fast foods. It's probably a good place where to go eat after some shopping in the area. I wouldn't make a trip there on purpose. It's an alright place

I was in town for business and decided to check out Saigon Noodle House. Basically, I wanted something to keep me warm. It was cold that February night and even colder in Nashville where I drove from. The decor in this place is nice, welcoming, but nothing over the top. I feel like most vietnamese places either go over the top or one step above "we don't want you here". This place was welcoming and a happy medium. First course. I had a charbroiled pork spring roll, Goi Cuon Thit Nuom, which was amazing. It had a great depth of flavor and mixture of textures. If I didn't know better, I would order a whole bunch of these for dinner. It was sooooooo good. Second. I had the Pho Tai Nam (rare steak & brisket), which was exactly the warmth I needed on this cold winter's night. They give you all of the standard accompanying sauces and things, which was nice. This pho had a sweetness and smoothness to it that I don't remember on most of the Pho I've had in Nashville. I put plenty of sriracha, fish sauce, and hoisin in it so that could have played in to my impression. It was a tasty bowl of Pho and definitely worth visiting for. Pros: Good Pho, great spring rolls, and a nice wait staff Cons: I've had a deeper beef broth flavor in other Pho in Nashville before that this didn't live up to. It was good Pho but just didn't quite hit that spot. Overall: If you're in town for business or any other reason, give Saigon a shot. Get you one of their spring rolls or three!

Saigon Noodle House is our favorite place to eat in greater Birmingham. We moved here from Westminster, CA, also known as "Little Saigon." And we can say with some authority that Saigon Noodle House has by FAR the best Vietnamese food in Birmingham. But I admit, I only know a handful of their dishes. That's because they're so great, we never want to order anything else! We always start with sharing the #A-6 Goi Cuon Thit Nuom (Charbroiled Pork Spring Rolls) - extremely savory with layers of flavor - slightly char-flavored pork combined with tons of fresh herbs, veggies, noodles, various textures, and all enhanced by a spicy peanut dipping sauce. We always wish there was just a little bit more of the delicious dipping sauce. Then we split the #BM4 Bahn Mi Thit Nuong (Charbroiled pork sandwich) - while not the absolute best bahn mi we've ever enjoyed (that distinction belongs to Nashville, TN's InterAsian Market & Deli - not to be missed!), it's still delicious. Be warned - it's sadly not always available (they seem run out of the bread on the weekends with some frequency). My husband get's his own pho or noodle dish. But I always get the exact same dish - #B7 Bun Laksa Tom - Thick vermicelli noodles in coconut curry soup with tofu & chicken. I always order it with half the noodles, so I can get more of the delicious broth. It's truly an elixir - light and flavorful (coconut & curry are both strong flavors that can overwhelm, but in this dish they are used with a light hand), with lots of chicken chunks and just a few large cubes of (fried?) tofu. It comes with a small plate of sliced jalapenos, lime wedges and thai basil (and sometimes bean sprouts), which you use to flavor the soup to your liking. It's a huge bowl, so there are always yummy leftovers to enjoy at home. The decor is casual and simple. The place is always spotlessly clean. Most of the servers are friendly and helpful. There is one male server, a little older than the other staff, who is always thoroughly cheerless. Doesn't matter. No one can keep me from my Bun Laksa Tom. :)

I have a lot of great restaurants that I love in Birmingham. But depending on the mood I'm in, this can be my favorite. Bold statement I know. But on a day I am pheeling pho, nothing scratches that itch like Saigon Noodle House. I so desperately want to explore the menu more. But I can't stay away from the good old pho. I have had a variety of those, but the P3 (thin beef and brisket) with extra meat is what I have settled as my fav. The broth in anything you get makes it incredible. So don't hesitate to try something a little outside the box too. I never substitute my pho, but I have added to my meal with the spring rolls. They are also incredible. Maybe one of these days I will get tired of getting the pho and venture out on what is supposed to be a great rest of the menu. But I don't see that day anytime soon.

I've been to saigon a multitude of times. Usually, the service is mediocre. However, my last visit was probably the worst. There is one server in particular that always ends up taking care of my table. I don't know if it's because she doesn't care or what, but she is consistently bad. And even though I know I'm not getting that great of service, I still tip 20%. So it's not like I'm consistently tipping her badly, which would cause this lack of attention. This last visit though, a steaming hot bowl of pho was dumped on to my leg by a food runner who seemed new. I'm a pretty easy going person, so an expletive was said and I proceeded to try to clean my pants in the bathroom. Back upon my arrival, I expected the waitress to be there to see if there's anything she could do, or even just apologize. She never came by the table once after she got our drink order. Well, she did stop by to ask if we needed our check, but that was literally a total of two stops at our table. Now don't get me wrong, I love the food and will probably be back, however if I get that same waitress, I will definitely be asking for someone else to take care of my table.

Love the Pho! The spicy lemongrass chicken is good as well. I've brought friends to this restaurant and no one has been disappointed yet. The only reason I didn't give five stars is that service was a little slow to get refills on drinks or the check so we could leave.

  • Rocky O.

Saigon Noodle House is the jam! My good friend from the Philippines introduced me to "pho" which is a soup style dish. You can substitute the broth for coconut broth which I highly recommend and double the meat and you have a delicious meal on our hands. I've had several of the sandwiches as well and have loved everything! It tastes so fresh and unique from your routine soup and sandwich places. Also if you're a fan of bold coffee get their coffee. It will rock your world in a good way!

It's always hard for us to find good pho restaurants in cities that aren't populated with mostly Vietnamese people. But I saw that this place was highly rated so we decided to stop by. And it was great! We had the goi cuon thit nuong, meat was flavored well! I wasn't a fan of the fried wonton inside but maybe because I wasn't aware that it was there and it shocked me but my boyfriend loved it! He kept raving about the fried wonton in the spring roll. I had the pho tai nam and was VERY surprised that the broth wasn't as fatty as most places! Who doesn't love some fat and flavor?! But too much can be overwhelming and leave me with a queasy feeling. It was a good portion, I even had enough left over to share with my boyfriend. He had com ga xa ot, chicken was very juicy but too spicy for my liking. He loved it though! The only thing he said was that they could have been a little less sauce-y with the chicken. Other than that food and service was great!

Not great but not bad. In a nutshell, I wish I could combine the friendly atmosphere of Cilantro (Cincinnati) with the cleanly, well-lit environment of Saigon Noodle House (Birmingham), with the food from Phó Hoa Bình (Memphis). I landed in Birmingham and arrived at SNH about 40 minutes before they closed. It is tucked away in an unassuming location at a very nice shopping center - which means you will need to keep your eye out for it, or you could easily miss it. I was not immediately greeted, and I'm detracting one star for the service. Service wasn't terrible, and I did get everything quickly and efficiently. However, this place clearly thrives on its regulars, and the staff were very friendly and talkative many of their patrons, greeting them and chatting with them in a most amiable fashion. Perhaps the disparity between how friendly they were to the customers that they already knew compared to myself, having just flown in 20 minutes prior for the first time to The 'Bama was the big detraction for me. But favoritism to regulars is a great pet peeve of mine, just as much as it is when a server hands the check automatically to the male diner, or when female bartenders blatantly ignore female patrons. Their shrimp spring rolls with peanut dipping sauce garner a solid five-star, perfect rating. They were perfectly executed (three per order), with a perfect ratio of lettuce/noodle/shrimp/cuke/crunchy stick thing. I consumed all three. The phó (P2. on the menu) with sliced beef didn't blow me away, but it was adequate - here is where I'm detracting the second star. I kept adding Sriracha and Hoisin into the broth, because it seemed a little flavorless. Either the beef is not a very good quality, or it is not added right before they pour the hot broth into it and serve to you, because it was very tough and chewy. My rice noodles were in a big clump, which I had to detangle with my chopsticks, which is something I've never had to do before. My total bill was about $15, excluding tip + water to drink. So far, I would say SNH was my most expensive, but least favorite phó experience that I have had. If I am in this neck of the woods again, I would definitely try a couple other Vietnamese spots that got some good Yelp reviews first, but I would not be totally adverse to going back to SNH.

Just ok. But maybe because I ordered mine to go. It may be a better experience dining in.

I've eaten here several times and honestly, it's not worth it. I've eaten authentic pho in Vietnam, and several other popular places in the US. This is probably the worst example of pho I've ever tried to eat. If you know anything about pho, you know it's all about the broth. And the broth is watered down, lacking flavor, and served luke-warm. All of which are no-no's for pho. To top it off, service is under par to say the least. Picking up a to go order was a task for some reason. I politely waited to be greeted/asked if I needed anything and stood there in front of 2 employees talking amongst themselves/on their phones, for about 7 minutes. Someone from the back walks out, and asks if I've been helped, and asks one of the employees to ring me up, for the Togo order that's been sitting on the counter for the past 10 minutes. I wouldn't be so irritated if the person who proceeded to ring me up didn't ask irate about having to do it!? I looked further into the restaurant and only saw 2-3 tables of 2-4 people... I didn't understand. Being in the service industry myself, I couldn't comprehend. Looking for good Pho? Friendly or even quality service? Don't bother here.

  • Steffanie W.

I am from Jacksonville, FL where we have 2 awesome Pho restaurants so I am a little biased. This place was ok... not bad but just not nearly as good as Jacksonville or other cities I have visited. If this wasn't the only Pho place in town then it would be getting 2 stars. The broth is mediocre and doesn't have the depth of flavors. It didn't have the aromas of a great Pho Broth - star anise, fish sauce, etc.... The meat was very tough which was a shame. I am used to getting raw beef and "cooking" it in the hot broth. Noodles were normal... nothing special or bad. I also missed some of the condiments I like (Chili-garlic paste instead of siracha). I will not be back because I have much better options other places but if I lived in Birmingham and this was all there was then I would go back. They are closed on Monday and do not take American express.

My wife and I can't get enough of this place. It's a great spot to get some hot soup during the winter! I enjoy spicing up my P3 soup and getting a pot of green tea with it. Our little daughter also enjoys eating the rice noodles w/ chicken meal. We've visited numerous times and it's the same every time. We've yet to be disappointed. We enjoy dumping the fresh cilantro, jalapeños, bean sprouts, etc into our soup! First restaurant I've visited with soup served in this manner!

I work next door, and let me tell you this place is fantastic to get something healthy and energizing before a shift or big and comforting after one! Their spring rolls are fresh and the peanut sauce they come with is to die for. I could rub it all over my face. Curry dishes and soups are good too.

We got take out as they advertised closing at 8pm. Wow- what a line just to get it to go. The shrimp and pork spring rolls were both so fresh and tasty. The peanut dipping sauce is delish! We also got PHO-Beef noodle soup with thinly sliced beef, well done beef brisket, tendon, tripe & tendon beef meatballs. Excellent!

Saigon Noodle House 4606 U.S. 280, Birmingham, AL 35242 goo.gl/maps/jh4TY Go fo the Pho We had a great meal at Saigon Noodle House and will definitely be going back. The place was clean and nicely decorated. The service was quick and the staff was knowledgible. We split a Bahn Mai and bowl of the rare beef pho with the spicy broth. Both were fresh and delicious! Despite this average rating, this is my go-to for Vietnamese food in Birmingham based on its terribly convenient location next to Whole Foods, Target, and Nordstrom Rack. In addition, it is one of the better Vietnamese restaurants in Birmingham. The service is inconsistent depending on who is working that day. The first time I came here, the guy who managed our table seemed irritated at anything I asked. When I asked for another utensil, I thought he was going to punch me. He seemed that furious. The other times I came here, a lady and a younger guy were working at the front and they were very nice and customized some of my order upon request. The fried pork roll appetizers were hot and tasty. The sauce compliments it well. I didn't like the spring rolls. The rice paper was too thick and I could barely chew on it without everything spilling out. The pho had lukewarm broth, not to mention it took at least 15 minutes to be made in the kitchen. Thankfully, they didn't hod back on the meat.

I love the pho here. I often come for lunch on my own and dine in. I also like to order take-away for my family at dinner. They are so lovely here. I really like the Vietnamese food and they don't try and "Americanize" anything. It is really clean and nice. If you don't what something means on the menu just ask. Someone is always there that can give good recommendations.

    (5)
  • John H.

Surprisingly excellent! We walked in to find a very nice, clean environment. The service is polite and attentive, and they speak English very well (something hard to find at most Asian restaurants). The most important part, however, is the truly excellent food. Throughly enjoyed my food and experience there.

The BEST PHO, the BEST service and amazing, amazing food. So personal and connecting to their guest needs, this place is like a second home for me. If you're looking for great ambience and experience, look no further. I'll ALWAYS eat here and you will too.

  • Billie M.

The food is fresh and delish . Best shrimp spring rolls I've ever had... And I've lived in 3 states! I also tried the curry tofu and vermicelli noodles... Very good. The place isn't much to look at...kinda run down..which is why they lost a star.

Was skeptical about trying a new cuisine the staff is really friendly and helpful with the menu. The pho is amazing, so are the pork spring rolls. Never had anything that was bad but the best thing here is the avocado smoothie.

I'm so glad I found Saigon Noodle House! The restaurant was bigger than it appeared from outside and it was clean and comfortable. I ordered my standby Vietnamese drink - Cafe Su Dau - and it was brought out still dripping. Intense flavor without the bitterness. I enjoyed the shrimp and pork spring rolls. They were a little hard to eat as they were pretty big and stuffed to capacity, but really good. I had the rare beef & beef brisket Pho and it was excellent. The portion size was extremely generous and I couldn't finish it. The broth had the great beefy taste that it should, and once Hoisin and Siracha were added, it got even better. They were generous with the amount of meat, too. I kept finding more of it at the bottom of my bowl long after I was sure I'd eaten it all. My boyfriend had the Vermicelli noodles and pork, which came with chopped up pork eggrolls. I sampled the pork and it was very flavorful and juicy with a charbroiled taste. He was fairly happy with it and it was a good introduction to someone new to the cuisine. Everything on our plates was extremely fresh and I'll definitely be back to try more dishes.

  • Nick H.

I started going here for the Pho, but then I found my one true love in Vietnamese cuisine, banh mi! This is one of, if not the only, restaurant in Birmingham that I've eaten at twice in the same day. I have seriously never had a bad dish here and the owners are great. When people ask me my favorite places to eat, I always mention Saigon Noodle House!

    (5)
  • Boo L.

As with most Vietnamese restaurants I've been to, I found the menu here to be extensive. Since it was my first time dining here I decided on the phô (with rare brisket). While I thought it was good overall, I definitely have had better broth elsewhere. I also had their grilled pork spring rolls which were nice. I will return to try other dishes of theirs.

  • Elizabeth Z.

I ordered the Phò 3 with a Thai Tea to go. As someone who's had Authentic Vietnamese food, my food was ok. Broth was salty which masked the other flavors, & my tea was way too sweet. I had to add ice & let it sit for a while before I could drink it. I thought it was a bit overpriced compared to the place in Homewood & I can't say I really want to go back. I'm bummed out. I had really high hopes. Staff was nice & friendly.

My favorite place to get Pho in Birmingham. I usually order P3, which is delicious, but they also have great noodle and rice dishes. I have also tried the coconut curry soups, which are flavorful.

  • Ale X.

Saigon Noodle is consistently delicious. I can't decided which is my favorite, B7, coconut curry soup w shrimp and tofu, or B4,pork egg rolls and charbroiled pork on vermicelli. Try the french drip with condensed milk and bubble tea too!

  • Jason S.

Been here twice. The first time I had shrimp and pork spring rolls and they were very good. The second time I decided to get adventurous- not a good idea on my part. I had a soup with a multitude of items in it. Let's just say that I'm not entirely sure which ingredients didn't exactly agree with my stomach but I've narrowed it down to the pig intestines and/or quail's egg as the likely culprit. I wouldn't advise experimenting with the menu too much unless you are a decorated Vietnamese vet. Service was good and the pricing is fair.

I believe this is the best pho in Birmingham area and I have been there for a couple of times. Now I am heading there for my dinner.

I really want to like this place. It's awesome in Birmingham to have multiple Vietnamese Restaurants. Sadly this one falls a bit short for me. I had eaten here a couple time prior to becoming a Yelper and played it safe and gotten the Pho. I really think it's next to impossible to mess Pho up but for a better Pho check out Pho Que Huong Vietnamese Restaurant over on Greensprings. The most recent time I visited I ventured away from Pho and got a Stir-fry Curried Chicken Dish with Rice Noodles. Again sadly the rice noodles came out a bit on the cold side and the curry was oddly flavorless. All in all this place is fine if you want some Pho but beyond that check out the place I mentioned above.

We love Saigon noodle house! They have fantastic soups and are always so nice! I love the chili oil in my soup

Possibly the rudest staff I have ever had. Take out is a complete waste and a rip off and they don't have the quality to back up the bad service. I will take a pass on this place next time.

  • Janet S.

Another getting away with it noodle house. The Pho Tai seemed to be a couple of cubes, boiling water and a bit of garlic thrown in, no real depth of flavor. the meat was OK but not such a generous portion. I opted for the Laska and whilst almost certain it not be a real Laksa, again it turned out to be a couple of cubes with some Tom Yum Paste. The coconut was not there and the soup was liquid instead of a nice thick creamy consistency. The noodles were thin spaghetti and so over cooked. Thick rice noodles are not that hard to find! There was no recognition by the server of a Soda Chahn when we asked for that, another server said we don't have the ingredients... really! Oh well it was cheap and still better than one of the franchises out on the main road, but the best thing was it was a few doors down from Nordstrom Rack.

We had lunch here today because we have never had Vietnamese food. I wanted to try the vegetable spring rolls, but felt I may not like an uncooked roll. I settled on the pork egg rolls at the suggestion of one reviewer. They were piping hot and really good. For my main course I had the charbroiled pork banh mi. It was very fresh and good, but did not taste charbroiled. The bread itself was so crispy and fresh. My wife had the vermicelli shrimp which she said was very good and fresh. The attendants were very pleasant and the restaurant is clean and new looking. Overall, this was a pleasant dining experience and a place I will go to again. From looking around at what other diners had, it appears that portions are large and I certainly had more than enough for lunch. This review is based on one visit and on the selection of foods we had.

Although I have little experience in Vietnamese food, I love going to Saigon Noodle House and getting the chicken curry. In fact, out of all the Asian restaurants in Birmingham, this one would be my favorite. Every item I have tried has been excellent, with the portion sizes being quite large and reasonably priced for the quality. Anytime, I make it this far down 280, I usually make a visit.

  • Lee C.

The tofu spring rolls were excellent. They had an good texture as well as taste and appearance. It had the normal lettuce and slice of tofu, but also something crunchy in there. The peanut sauce was decent. Item seemed a little pricey. I had vermicelli with tofu. The price was good and the portion generous. I had enough for a second meal. The taste was good. The amount of noodles to liquid was a little low. The amount of tofu was decent. The ingredients seemed fresh, and the bean sprouts and Thai basil on the side were really fresh. My friend had chicken noodle soup. It was tasty and had a distinctly different taste from my dish. It's nice everything doesn't just taste the same. The amount of chicken seemed good and the proportions were good. She was very happy with the dish, and she somehow ate it all. I had Thai ice tea with tapioca balls, which was a stock container--not made there. My friend had the "mango smoothly", which was a very sweet drink with tapioca balls and tasted more like pineapple. Again, it was not made there, I think. In any case, I was disappointed by the drinks. Afterwards, we had sweet sticky rice, which is sweet and has a significant amount of black-eyed peas. A little strange but very yummy. The portion was significant, and we enjoyed it a lot. The service was okay but not exceptional by any means. The waiters took our orders but seemed a little rushed. It was quite busy at lunchtime. The food came in a decent amount of time. The waiters didn't ask whether we wanted desert and I had to ask for the menu again to get one. The menu incidentally has the dishes in large English print and then, in smaller print, the Vietnamese name. There is no lunch menu; same as dinner prices. People seem to think it's the best Vietnamese restaurant. In my opinion, the Saigon Noodle House is a good option for Vietnamese food in Birmingham. I recommend it.

I brought a group of 12 here and I had the B4 vermicelli entree that was stone cold when they finally brought it. The Vietnamese place in Homewood is much better. Secondly, I had placed a to go order for a friend who could not come tonight, and the server simply "forgot" to put the order in. The kitchen was closed when I reminded her of such order and she tried to blame it on the fact that we had said that it would be a group of about 10 but actually it was 12. Ridiculous. I would recommend the Vietnamese place in Hoover or the one in Homewood. Not this one.

I tried the P8 (chicken pho) with spicy lemon grass broth this time. Not as flavorful as the beef, but still tasty! Next time I'll try it with the standard broth.

Pho was delicious, Vietnamese ice coffee was great, thai tea was great, spring rolls were amazing and rice dishes were great. The staff was spectacular considering they handled our table of 9 mostly needy / demanding people. Place was clean and more than a whole in the wall pho place. They had a spicy ooh broth which we had not seen before, very good!

The food is always fresh and consistently delicious! The Best chicken noodle soup I've ever had! We also love the charbroiled pork spring rolls and coconut curry soup. This is real soul food! Noodles are fun to eat too!

Was really looking forward to trying the Pho Doc Biet but unfortunately they were out of tendon even though I went at Noon. The experience was still pleasant. Restaurant a lot bigger than I originally thought and the waiting staff were very friendly. I got the pork spring roll and was little disappointed after seeing how other Yelpers raved about how good it was. The wrap itself was very thick and a little hard to bite through. The sauce that it came with was tasty but i used the Sriracha sauce to dip it in. The ingredients were indeed very fresh and the taste was really good. Now the main course was the Pho Tai Nam. The broth had a slightly sweet taste to it and it was verrrry good. Got an extra large bowl for about $10.95 and had so much left over that I was able to take two to go containers home with me. Next time I won't be so greedy, but am looking forward to having this dish for supper. Overall experience deserve 4 stars would have been five if I had my beef tendon.

Spring rolls are pretty good, sauce is right to the point too. However, rice noodles are below average level. Overall, not very tasty but an alright place to eat of you crave for Vietnamese flavor.

This place is heaven. Had the Bun Bo Hue here and I admit they made it better than grandma! Summer rolls have a twist that's better than most standard rolls. Fried banana Pho? I didn't have to add hoisin or hot sauce. Wish this place was in NYC!!!

Okay, I've been here 4 times now and am comfortable giving it 5 stars. For semi-quick service Vietnamese food, it is some of the best I've had including places in NYC, San Fran, Chicago, etc. The shrimp spring rolls are the best I've ever had, period. Super fresh filling, and wonderful crunch to them. The banh mi sandwich is great, with super fresh bread. The pho is rich and hearty and will knock out that winter cold. Service has always been great, and prices are reasonable. So great to have this option in Birmingham.

This place is excellent. I've been here 50 or more times and it is always great. I only order the noodle soup (P2), so I'm not sure about the other items on the menu...oh, and the shrimp spring rolls are also very good. It's also very clean and the staff is friendly. I think there is one other Vietnamese restaurant in town, but I would not recommend it over this one.

Steve scared me with his comment that SNH is no longer open so I just called them and the person that answered said yes they are open. . We typically get the BM2 Banh Mi with extra meat. it's the dac biet with the pate, pork loaf and roasted pork. I wish they used thai bird chiles instead of jalapenos but it's better than the BMs are Pho Que Hong. The bread is perfectly crunchy and the ingredients are right, but $5 is a bit steep (without the extra meat) when they're like $2.50 to 3 in Boston, NYC, etc. I also like the (unfried) summer rolls although I think they call them spring rolls. We prefer the pork and shrimp one and spice up the sauce (which seems like a peanutty hoisin sauce) with some sriracha. We sometimes also request a side of the (mostly) clear sauce they serve with some of the noodles; it's mostly fish sauce.

A pretty decent place for Vietnamese food in Birmingham. The interior design and atmosphere were really nice. Service for the most part was great (had one really rude waitress who was snarky and short). The food itself was decent - my party all got different vermicelli noodles, so I can only comment on that but it was decent. The fish sauce was lacking in flavor as was the charbroiled pork. The lemongrass/beef flanks dish was better. For the drinks, their pressed coffee wasn't very strong. The mango smoothie with boba however, was delicious. I would come back to this place again.

I give this place a 5 star only because there aren't many Vietnamese restaurants in Alabama. I would say that this one is the best one that I have tried thus far. I am from Georgia, and I was visiting my boyfriend in Alabama. I'm Vietnamese, and he's not, but he loves pho. So, we wanted to try out Saigon since it was the closest Vietnamese restaurant to him. We have been to this place for a few times now. So far, we have tried pho, spring rolls, fried egg rolls, and some rice dishes. Everything that we have tried so far has been delicious and 100% authentic. I like this place very much. The service is great as well! The waiters and waitresses speak excellent English, which is good for non-Vietnamese speaking customers. The interior of the restaurant is clean and decently decorated. Overall, I really like this place! I recommend anyone and everyone to try this place who loves Pho or is looking in getting the Pho experience. Also, please don't go to the other Vietnamese restaurant in Birmingham. I think it's called Que Hoang? It is not authentic at all. My boyfriend and I didn't like it. Their soup was not flavorful at all. The people who runs the place isn't even Vietnamese. If you have the option, I say try Saigon! You won't be disappointed.

The food is outstanding. Best pho & spring rolls in town! Their bahn mi is delish. Quaint atmosphere, nothing fancy. Prices are reasonable for a strip mall eatery. They do serve bubble tea, though I'm not a fan of bubble tea. It seems to be popular, though.

One of our Birmingham favorites. Always love the Spring rolls. David only orders Pho, but this time I tried the Coconut curry with tofu and shrimp. It was very good. I love Saigon---so glad I was introduced to Vietnamese food!

This was our first visit. Our waitress did a wonderful job walking us through the menu. The spring rolls were the best we've ever had. The mix of favors and sauce was great. The fish sauce added nice flavor to the dishes. And yes, there is a kids menu.

The food is great. However, this does not make up for the extremely poor service that I experienced today. On a not-so-busy Fridat night at 8pm, we had to flag someone down just to be seated. And then to add insult to injury after sitting for 20 minutes, I had to go up front to ask someone to take our order, which it took another 5 minutes for someone to come by. Food: I give it a 4. Service: if 0 was an option, I would give it a 0. Having been a waitress and a restaurant manager before, the main tasks associated with serving are not difficult, and this place certainly does not deliver. This is the 3rd time I have experienced this and find it difficult to want to come back, even if the food is good.

First place I ever had pho back in '09 or '10. Fell in love with it. They had this adorable guy running food and bussing tables that looked like a panda. Moving back to Birmingham soon and can't wait to go back.

Very good! My first Vietnamese experience. I had the charbroiled pork spring rolls and the roasted pork banh mi. The spring rolls were delicious. Next time I will try the pho or the charbroiled banh mi. I also had a coconut bubble tea with tapioca pearls to go. It is a new favorite drink for me! Definitely will go back. I would have given 5 stars but the waiter wasn't very friendly and seemed to rush us.

Food is ok. But probably best in Bham for Vietnamese food in sense that it's a clean place and service is superb. Compare to places in say Atlanta, it's just ok. Since there is no real competition, price is high and vegetables are not that fresh. Broth is good but noodles are hit or miss. Sometimes noodles are well prepped and other times they are soggy. I only gave this place 4 because of service and friendly staff. Otherwise, I would give 3.

We eat here once a week. Especially for cold rainy days in Birmingham. The Pho is delightful, the spring rolls are fresh and have a crunchy stick in the middle. Not fried like Chinese Spring Rolls. We typically take out because the ambiance in the restaurant it self feels like a doctors office and the service can be spotty. It is just as easy for us to pick up as it is to dine in. Here is what to try if you never been. A6 - charbroiled pork spring roll. B4-3 lemongrass, onion and flank steak with noodles. The sauce is what makes it.

LOVE this place! It might be crowded at times (ie. lunch time on a cold winter day!) but the wait is well worth it. My wife and I go regularly...to the point that the staff knows us by name (haha)...which is nice too because they actually remember their customers....down to what our "usual" orders are....that is SERVICE. The food....great and reasonable. Portions are large (but you can order larger still!) I just wish they still had their chicken banh mi sandwiches (only pork/beef now). I will suggest you try their spring rolls (shrimp is best!). Theirs are like no other....a liitle "cookie" crunch in the middle. (haha) We will be back...and back...and back again!

Best Vietnamese in Birmingham by far. I lived in New Orleans and got spoiled by the plethora of Vietnamese options there and was a little scared to try Alabama Vietnamese food. Here in B'ham, I've been to Saigon Noodle House quite a few times, and it is delicious every time (especially in the winter when it's cold and you are craving something warm and filling). My favorites are the B4 and B4-1. The noodles are delicious. The meat is tender and flavorful. The sandwiches are also very good. And they have BUBBLE TEA (among other tasty beverages)!!!

Everything I've had here is lite, fresh, and flavorful. The pho is delicious. I love all the fresh herbs they put in everything. The staff is friendly. Tucked away in a Target shopping center, a lot of people probably miss it, but it's definitely great viatnamese food. They have good vegetarian options too. The portions are huge! I've pulled off here when I got stuck in 280 traffic several times.

It is great having another Vietnamese dining option in town, and this has become my favorite. The restaurant offers many traditional Vietnamese dishes including pho, bun, and rice entrees. The goi cun (summer rolls) are good, but unusual because they put a fried noodle in the center. The restaurant offers some traditional Vietnamese desserts in a refrigerated display at the front. They also offer bubble tea, and a frequent bubble tea buyer card. Purchase eight and get the next for free. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and is kept clean. The portions are good and very reasonably priced.

Well I traveled to Birmingham to see what they had to offer. We were craving some Pho and this was the closest place that popped up on the list. Walked right in and sat down, only 2 other tables had guests. I was a little leery when I seen only a few people. They have a pretty big menu which was a plus, however it is a little confusing. Not sure what comes with your order and what is an extra cost. I decided to order the shrimp and pork spring rolls for an appetizer. They had 3 to an order. They had a good presentation. Not quite enough Peanut Sauce, but I made it last. The spring rolls had a surprise in the middle, I haven't ever had one with a "cookie" inside. It wasn't a sugar cookie, but it was like a rolled cookie inside so they crunched when you ate them. They did taste great tho. I ordered the Pho with thin sliced beef and tendon meatball. It was a big bowl, they brought out the setup, not enough basil, but I didn't ask for any more. I have had Pho all over the US, this wasn't the worst, but it was far from the best. I would say it was a little on the bland side. But definitely eatable, most places have the meatballs only cut in half, it was as if they were saving meat and cut them pretty thin. I came hungry, and I left full. I would visit again. My biggest complaint is they don't take AMEX!

  • Julie L.

Not bad, not great - but considering the limited options for Vietnamese food around here, I won't complain too much because it's better than nothing. I had the vermicelli with pork, and their fish sauce is stinkier than most (and I grew up on Vietnamese food - might be the brand of fish sauce they're using?). Tolerable, but not my favorite. Portion size is a little on the small side for the price. I could smell pho broth as soon as I walked in the door. Smelled good enough that I'd try this place again for pho if I'm in the neighborhood. Won't have the vermicelli again though.

I was so upbeat reading everybody's review here. Especially the lady who said there are 'oh so many vegetarian options' available. Irrespective of what the menu online says, there are precisely 3 options available for vegetarians. My review is based on the vegetarian options. Now, for those who are vegetarians, even if you specify that you want everything to be vegetarian and just to be safe, you specify no chicken, mutton, beef, pork or anything to do with animals or sea animals, you will still be served chicken broth and fish sauce ! This is sheer stupidity. If I had told all of this to the person who was taking my order i wouldn't have expected chicken fucking broth and fish fucking sauce ! Nothing against the dishes/soups/water, but I don't want to eat them and I sadly don't know how to tell the difference. Even more so, when there is shredded carrot and cilantro in them !! .... and you were somehow, magically, expected to know that all rice dishes are served with chicken broth and fish sauce. The food itself was ordinary. Nothing can be bragged about some rice and some stir fried vegetables. Nothing really Vietnamese about that, IMHO Saigon, never again !

If you're looking for great Vietnamese in Birmingham, this is it. I went here on a busy Friday night and was better than I expected. The restaurant was very clean, the service was fair and the food was reasonably priced. I ordered a pork and rice dish and my mom ordered a shrimp and rice dish, and they were both delicious. The broths that came with the meal (sorry I don't know the technical terms) were delicious and light. The meat was cooked to perfection and seasoned well. There was a generous portion of rice and the veggies on the side were very fresh. The only way this meal could have been better is if the restaurant served alcohol and if my pork had been warmer and leaner. (Unfortunately, I had to pick off a fair amount of fat.) But this is one of the better, authentic Vietnamese restaurants I have been to and I will be returning very soon!

Like Whitney, I am also addicted to Saigon Noodle House and, because acknowledging my addiction is the first step to recovery, the future looks bright. The banh mi sandwich is simply outstanding as is the curry bowl with chicken and tofu. The sandwich showcases charbroiled pork with raw vegetables and some sort of sauce. I also order some kind of coffee (can never remember the name) after the meal. I think it's called a Filipino coffee but don't quote me on this. As far as I can tell it's an intense dark roast with condensed milk.

Informal surveys around town (ok, at nail salons) say local Vietnamese folks prefer this place over Pho Que Hong. I'm a fan. You cannot go wrong. Crunchy egg noodles with veggies (a gorgeous, warm, bright bird's nest atop delicious brown sauce), simple beef pho (or order the broth alone to go with another dish), tofu stir-fry with ginger or curry sauce, just about any of the spring rolls. The chicken with chiles and lemongrass is divine. As for drinks, try the bubble tea or the frozen coconut drink. Service is brisk. The TV's seem usually to be tuned to sports. And there's almost always a cute baby in this place, well-behaved, of course. A great little place to grab a casual lunch or dinner.

It was our first visit to Saigon Noodle House and I was impressed. The food was great and service was pretty good despite being very, very busy. I'm no expert on Vietnamese food so my only basis of comparison is Pho on Greensprings. Overall, SNH seems to be more polished, a little sweeter and maybe a little american friendly while Pho seems more homestyle. Like I said, I'm not an expert by any means so this is just a gut reaction. Of the two, I like Pho better but SNH is great.

The food was delicious, fresh, and reasonably priced. My boyfriend loved the B4 entree and I ordered the curry noodle soup w/ shrimp & tofu. We both thought the pork and noodles was better, but the curry soup was very flavorful and had a lot of shrimp. We plan to go back the next time we drive up to B'ham. Service was so-so, and we found ourselves waiting a while to be acknowledged by a server, but that's not a deal-breaker to us. Also, this is the 2nd time we've ever had Vietnamese food so I can't comment on authenticity, but we really liked it.

  • David K.

Great bahn mi! And the pho is decent, however they put all of the vegetables inside as opposed to traditionally on the side, but the flavor is still good. The vietnamese coffee has too much condensed milk to coffee ratio and would skip.

First time. Pretty good food. Had the Vermicelli with pork. Good flavor but small portion and amount of pork. Not sure if short staffed but service was poor. Didn't check back on us until we were finished and ready to leave...then acted put out that we asked for drinks to go. Not trying to bash because it was good overall and will definitely go back.

Loved it. Feels authentic (actually I wouldn't know, butq it has a family owned small restaurent feel which I like.). To-die-for menu for a vegetarian like me. There is at least one vegetarian item in each section and their menu is huge. Definitely going back and definitely taking friends and family. Vegetarian spring rolls - a must have. So is the coconut flavored drink with tapioca, I think it's called Bubble Tea.

We stopped here with a friend. The noodle bowls were just ok. One bowl came with this liquid sauce that you're supposed to put on the noodles..but it smelled horrible! Smelled like feet. On a side nite, the watermelon bubble smoothies was awesome!!!!

While I'm not the biggest fan of the regular pho that they make here, I really like the hu tieu, mi xao, and the cube flank steak. The charbroiled pork rolls and sandwich are quite good as well. My one complaint is that the portion of the mi xao is small for me. But this place's price/quality ratio for Asian food in Alabama puts it at a 5.

It might look unassuming from the outside, but make no mistake, this place is incredibly good. Everything I've ever eaten here, from the noodle dishes to the rice dishes to the sandwiches has been top notch. So whether you are craving Vietnamese food or looking for something different, this is definitely the place for you.

It's not the best pho I've ever had but it is better than Pho Que Huong on GreenSprings, the other Birmingham Vietnamese restaurant option. I don't generally eat Viet food in Birmingham because I know it's suppose to taste better. And also my parents cook it every night. Pho restaurants are difficulty to pick out bc for such a simple dish, it can be made so wrong. The pho here is good--broth, noodles & all. The thing is, it costs $8 for a regular bowl. Meatballs are extra, $1 I think. This may not seem like much. In fact, it may seem super affordable for lunch/dinner. However, pho is super cheap to make, super cheap street food really. I usually pay $4-$6 for a regular bowl of pho at many other restaurants. In fact, most of their items are cost more than they normally should. I guess when there are only two options in Birmingham, they can charge whatever people aren't use to paying. They also have bubble tea. Which sucks. I've tried it several times & the tapioca is always hard, not sweet & chewy. The mango smoothie (without bubbles) is good. Their thai iced tea is unpredictable but usually errs on being too sweet. Like McDonald's sweet tea with sweet milk on top. I go when friends invite me out here to lunch because they are in the mood for Vietnamese & don't eat it every night. ++ It's a very clean restaurant. For those who wonder, it is also pretty authentic.

  • David M.

Great food, but their hours are ridiculous. Either be a restaurant or don't, but closing at 7 pm--halfway through dinner service--is absurd. They also have a rule about not being able to order food 30 minutes before they close, so you can't order food after 6:30 pm on Sunday. The owner is very cold and frankly just a jerk.

    (2)
  • Amy C.

Very delicious and pretty authentic (based on my little knowledge of what authentic Vietnamese food is..) I am a little spoiled when it comes to Vietnamese food because in Boston you can get a large bowl of pho for $7, a small one for $6. I have had the best Banh Mi sandwiches I have ever had for $2. Here at Saigon Noodle House I will get a very good bowl of Pho for $9 - $10, a very good banh mi for $5, but not the BEST. The bubble tea I had was awful - the tapioca was so hard and not cooked well enough, and the tea part was way too sweet. Everything is overpriced but I guess they can get away with it because Vietnamese restaurants are few and far between in B'ham. If you are brand new to Vietnamese food I'm sure you will be very happy (see all the good reviews). I have just had too much exceptional Vietnamese food to give it more than 3 stars. Dining is very casual with TV's on the wall. Throw on jeans and flip flops and go!

I am freaking addicted. Sorry Peter, I couldn't wait. I have been sick lately, and I did not want to bother with making soup, so I figured some pho would be the perfect pick me up. I ordered the chicken pho and a banh mi sandwich and a mango and pineapple bubble tea smoothie with tapioca balls. The sandwich was perfect. I ended up eating half of it for dinner instead of the soup. My 1 star man friend ate the other half, and he does not even like sandwiches. I had the pho the next day and it was so freaking good. I have been thinking about it ever since. I drank my smoothie in no time, and even though the other was not mine, I ended up being able to steal it and keep it in the freezer for another day. I had a friend bring me another yesterday, and my 1 star man friend is bringing me another tonight. I mean, what else are 1 star man friends good for?

This was our third time eating Vietnamese and it was delicious. We went with a friend who is a Pho fanatic and he said this is the place to eat when they come to Birminhgam. We got the shrimp spring roll and it was wonderful. I loved the dipping sauce. We thought we detected a hint of coconut in it. I cannot remember the name of the soup that I had, but it was a coconut curry soup with tofu, chicken, scallops, shrimp and crab with noodles. It was full of flavor. My husband got a pork dish with vermicelli noodles and pork egg roll. The waitress spoke to my husband about the sauce before he ate it, suggesting he dip before pouring it on his dish. He liked the sauce. Restaurant filled up fast while we were there. Service was fast and friendly.

They serve pretty good Pho and it's honestly their broth. I also like to order their Saigon summer rolls... These two items are the only reason I come here to eat all and the only place I'd consider getting Pho. However, I stopped coming here on a regular basis bc not only was their items over priced to begin with (a fact I was willing to overlook as I treat it as a price premium for serving better Pho), but now they've increased the price some more that I spent almost 20$ just to have a reg Pho, drink, and summer rolls. Ridiculous.

I have been to this place several times now. Their Pho is decent and overall I think 3 stars represents the place pretty well. However there aren't any 4 or 5 star vietnamese restaurants that I have tried in Birmingham so far and I hope to see more of them. They do not serve any type of alcohol. I would reccomend this place VS the other vietnamese places in BHAM I have tried.

I just moved to Birmingham from the West Coast in Nov 2010. I'm on a quest to find authentic Asian food here - the way each ethnic cuisine is supposed to taste like. I've tried a couple of Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese restaurants so far. This place is the only restaurant I've tried that tastes pretty authentic and close to the ones found in Las Vegas and California, where there is a huge Vietnamese population. Vietnamese food tastes like Vietnamese food at Saigon Noodle House. It may be a little bit overpriced than other pho places but that's ok. I'll pay up just to eat authentic Vietnamese food. There were items with some twists that weren't traditional either but the dishes were still awesome! They don't serve their egg rolls (Cha Gio) with a few lettuce leaves and pickled daikon and carrot shavings. It had just one leaf for garnish. The egg rolls also didn't come with the traditional dipping sauce (nuoc cham). It was served with the sweet, thick Chinese style dipping sauce instead. The server caught the puzzled look my son and I had when we looked at the sauce and asked us if we preferred the traditional one. She wasted no time and brought us some. This is my go to place when I have a craving for Vietnamese. No other place in Birmingham can beat it.

Best VN in birmingham without a doubt. Highly recommend the Mi Dac Biet. Has delicious and flavorful rich broth, curly egg noodles, quail egg, squid and shrimp. Absolutely delicious. Also highly recommend the banh mi sandwiches.

Tasty, reasonably-priced Vietnamese. The Bun Thit Nuong (B2) was delicious. The side of fish sauce smells off putting, but dump it in--the smell disappears and it truly enhances the flavor of the dish. Add the sriracha and hoisin sauce to taste. I also ordered the lychee smoothie with tapioca. With its interesting taste and large tapioca pearls, it was as good as it was fun to drink.

This is a great casual Vietnamese restaurant located in the Target Center in Hoover. The staff is very accommodating to those new to Vietnamese cuisine. Prices are very reasonable and the menu is expansive. I would recommend ordering any Pho and the pork and shrimp rolls as all were outstanding. We are fortunate to have the Saigon Noodle House in the neighborhood!

I love the spring rolls. The fried egg roll paper was a great addition. The noodles were great. I didn't realize how big the extra large was because many of the other pho places i've been to typically do not have this size. Broth was good, the veggies were fresh, which is always a plus. Overall, I would recommend this place to others..even though I don't live in Birmingham :)
