Went there on Saturday night after Barron's game. It was crowded but several booths open. We were told 45 minute wait. Went to the bar and grabbed s drink. Waited in front of hostess station. Saw several people come in after us and were seated immediately. So we waited. Our buzzer went off and we walked up to hostess stand. She looked at our name and said it was the wrong name? So we waited longer. More people seated ahead of us. We were about to walk out the door when the buzzer went off again. We were seated outside, which was fine, but with 4 people a booth would have been much more comfortable. Food was good. Our server was very nice. But there are too many other good restaurants nearby to waste time on the hostess chart. Would not go back because hostess was very rude.

As far as the food goes it is top notch. I have tried several different items on the menu besides the famous hamburger and it was great. This location is perfectly placed in the Uptown area and the restaurant is very aesthetically pleasing. The staff there is absolutely wonderful. They were very attentive and personable. Can't recommend this place enough.

Okay, the food is still good but the last couple of times I've been back, the service was absolutely HORRIBLE. The hostesses look a hot sizzling mess and were very unfriendly. Our server was a rude bumbling idiot. The hostess took us to a dirty table and didn't give us any silverware. And acted like I was bothering her because I like to eat at a clean table. WTF. And I have to agree with the other posters... Wth is with only giving people about 5 fries per plate.. Lol. I hope they get it together.

Great place...beer a little pricy; however the food was AMAZING and perfectly priced! Go for ANYTHING with the chicken strips and you will NOT fail! Be sure and ask for Ariel...she's fairly new, but she is spot on!!!!

Mugshot is a gourmet restaurant with great atmosphere in the uptown district. I really love servers here too. Plus, they give back to community with serve me delicious food with every bite. The meals are always prepared well and tasty smells. I really enjoy my visits to every mugshot in Jefferson County. Thank you mugshot!

If you're looking for a good burger at a decent price this is a great place to try. We went after Doo Dah Day and the place was really crowded. We were told there would be a 30 to 35 minute wait initially. Our pager went off maybe 10 minutes later. The hostess asked if a tall table would be OK and we explained that our daughter could not sit there because of the low high chairs. She immediately puts us in a booth, which worked great. The appetizer sampler option at this place is great. Most places have made it to where you can only choose certain appetizers or, even worse, they tell you the appetizers that come with the order. Not here.... You combine ANY 3 appetizers all for about the price of a burger. Fried pickles, spicy quesadilla rolls, and fried mozzarella cheese bites; all of which were great. Fiancé and I both had burgers, hers with a salad and mine with fries. 2 year old daughter ate half of the sampler, fries, and some of our burgers. Our server was a bit slow, but the tables in her section were packed with one table of 7 drinking beer back to back. All in all, a good trip and we will likely return.

I just can't get it right at Mugshots. This is my 3rd time eating at this location and 3rd time leaving unsatisfied. What gives? This last time I ordered the Steak Burger. Great flavor in the hamburger patty, but if you looked up "greasy mess" on Google, I'm sure you would've seen a picture of my order. My date ordered the same burger without mayo, and his wasn't greasy, so we are going to blame the greasiness on the mayo. I really should've taken pictures, but I spent the entire time wiping my hands with a napkin and didn't want to get my phone slathered with grease. I didn't finish the burger; in fact I only took about 4 bites. 3/4 of my sandwich now awaits a stray dog that lives on my street. Fries were good. Waitress was sweet. I may go back for a 4th time, on these conditions: 1. I'm in the area, 2. Someone else pays, 3. If I'm a glutton for punishment. Summary: Choices are a hit and miss. Not consistent.

I would like to start my review by suggesting umbrellas or sun shades for the outdoor seating. The staff was too busy chatting in a group to notice our party for some time. After noticing us, seeming annoyed at the prospect of customers, and seating us, back to the huddle to chat again. Our server was accommodating and attentive, though not very personable or friendly. The kid's menu left much to be desired. Why would a place known for their burgers have such a boring kid's menu consisting of plain pasta with sauce, chicken fingers, PB&J, grilled cheese, and a plain burger with 'add-on' topping for a charge? Children have taste buds as well, we didn't pick the place because of their awesome grilled cheese sandwiches of Kraft singles and white bread. My food was acceptable and the sweet potato fries worked well with the sauce. This place was very Meh. Writing the review was even boring.

The burger and fries were tasty. The atmosphere is somewhat noisy but considering it is within walking distance of the Sheraton Hotel, it was worth it. The bartender was really friendly! So good - made a second visit before leaving Birmingham. Again, the fries were hot and fresh and the burger was very good!

One of the more affordable options in Uptown...and some really good burgers! The service had always been great. Only complaint is that inside can get really loud when it is crowded.

I tried this while I was at a Beta Club convention. I didn't order a burger because it was hot outside and my friend and I had walked there from the Sheraton. I got the ahi tuna. It was pretty good. The sauce was amazing. If you're hungry, and you're looking for somewhere filling, this is the place to go. They have a few healthy and light options, but if I ever go back, I'll be trying a burger.

Went on a Friday night and was told there was a forty minute wait for two. We were willing to wait and just grab a drink at the bar but then two seats opened at the bar and we were told there was full food service there! Bartender was busy but was still attentive and helpful when we had questions about the menu. I got a margarita which was good but a little overpriced considering it tasted mostly like sugar and syrup rather than actual tequila. Food here was better than the drinks. Got a chicken sandwich with pineapple, bacon, and bbq sauce. Wow! Such a mix of sweet and salty with the crunch of the bacon. The piece of chicken itself was actually quite small in comparison to the size of the roll and the size of the other sandwiches and burgers. But it was delicious in any case. By far the best part of the meal - the chewy, sweet sandwich bun! Loved this so much. I got sweet potato fries which were hot and tasty but the portion was lacking especially considering the up charge from regular fries. My friend got the Arnold burger. She loved the bacon and fried egg on top. Says it was an all around great burger. She got the regular fries - portion also lacking and unfortunately came out at room temperature. All in all not a bad place for a burger.

Arrived about 6pm on a Thursday and was seated right off by very friendly staff. Our waiter was also great and knowledgable about the menu. Didn't take long after ordering our food that it arrived. We had fried pickles, mushrooms, and wings for the appetizer which was delicious. I ordered a ham, pepperoni, and Swiss sandwich, while my bf got the peanut butter burger. All the food was fantastic and portions on point with price. Defiantly going back.

Because I have been to the one in Vestavia a few times, I know Mugshots has the potential to be better. However, this location in Uptown left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. At the Vestavia location I've had the nachos (soooo good), and normally my other choice is a cheese burger. Always fresh tasting. But the Uptown location needs some work and tastes and feels like a completely different restaurant chain not even remotely resembling Vestavia. From a layout standpoint in Uptown, they could have designed the space for a better flow...it's a choppy layout and really, really small. Be prepared for a long wait. The bar area is hidden behind a huge, oversized brick wall. Looks like those restaurants from back in the day that had separate seating for smoking sections. Weird and a waste of space. Overall, the food was just ok, but everything tasted 'flat', not awful, just dull. When I arrived my friend had already ordered chips and queso dip. I had no idea that's what it was supposed to be and it looked so weird that I had to ask. She said it had a funny taste but she was starving. She said it was supposed to have ground beef in it, but to me it looked like cubed pieces of ham? And the cheese texture looked a little weird. I ordered the Mumbo Combo which is a choice of 3 appetizers. I chose the fried honey glazed shrimp, mozzarella cheese wedges and the rolled chicken and cheese quesadilla sticks. The cheese wedges had good crispy texture and taste and the cheese was melted well. It came with a small container of marinara sauce but the wedges were too large to dip in it! The fried shrimp was in a glaze/sweet sauce and it was ok, but the pieces were small like crawfish and a little dry and needed more of that sauce for dipping. No sauce came with the shrimp. The rolled quesadillas were fried and filled with bits of chicken and cheese. The texture of the cheese wasn't smooth but more like a powdered texture. Not sure. It was also dry and only had sour cream for dipping. I didn't expect such a lackluster experience. If I eat at that location again I will probably stick with something grilled, a salad or MAYBE try a cheeseburger. But if I want a better Mugshots experience I will go to Vestavia.

Well the service was very slow because the kitchen staff was sending orders out incorrect or there were items missing from the order. The portion sizes are not comparable to the price. I think this location is nice and everything was clean but the food was like most chains, standard and dull. The fried dill pickles are ok but they were greasy. I usually base my opinion of the kitchen staffs abilities to prepare / cook food on the quality of my appetizer. Attention to detail should be from appetizer to desert, that serves true in even chain restaurants. If there is no attention to detail or care for the quick and simplest of items, then pay for your appetizer, cancel your order and leave. If not, you are only going to leave disappointed! I just ordered the pickles and just let the kids get the chicken fingers. If they weren't so hungry after the game, I would have just got up and left!

Second time eating here. EPIC FAIL! They seated us at a table by the bar. Food was delivered quickly and the waiter was nice and very attentive. Now for the FAIL!!! Open containers with tea sitting above and on the drink station, along with the limes and oranges and GNATS or fruit flies swarming in and around it all. Where is the health department. Like I said...EPIC FAIL!!!

I just recently visited this Mugshots location. I have been to the location in Vestavia and have had a great time there. After reading most of the reviews for the Uptown location I expected some mediocre service however I was surprised at how well our group of over 20 was taken care of. I tried to call early to make a reservation but I was told they didn't take reservations (why???). So we ended up having to wait 45 minutes (this was expected with such a large group on a Friday night) for a table. We waited at the bar and the bartender was quick to make sure our mugs were full. I was impressed by the beers on draught and enjoyed the social atmosphere. We asked for a table or two to seat 20 and we got two tables with 17 chairs. Lucky for us our entire group was not there yet so we patiently waited until another table was brought over. However if this was not the situation we would have had an awkward dinner service. Our waitress was attentive for a table of 20. Apart from the wait time I will say that she came by pretty quickly after we got served to see who wanted boxes. We felt a little rushed to get our after our bills were sorted out but overall we had a great time. I will say that Mugshots has the best fried pickles of any restaurant in Birmingham so if you're a fan, get them here!

I have had much better mug shots experience. This service has been below average and the food was the same. I was very disappointed. The manager explained they were understaffed but was less than apologetic.

First time ever at a Mugshots. Food was awesome. I had the pizza burger- very tasty. Fries and onion rings also great. Wife had a Hawaiian chicken sandwich, said it was really good too. Staff was attentive and courteous. Will be back- great burger and atmosphere.

Staff at the bar was very friendly and prompt. I ordered food to go...mahj fish with steamed veggies. It was average but the burgers and other high caloric items looked great to eat. Cool and clean bar and restaurant. I would definitely visit again if I find myself in Birmingham again.

Food was great! Burgers were big and delicious. I had the Come-back burger +jalapeno my friends had the Gamble burger, and a Chicken Philly. They were all good size portions, cooked well and the onion rings were very tasty. Service was slow and not attentive. But I will definitley be back. If you havent been and love a good burger, this is a place for you.

We went here after going to a function at the BJCC. We had to wait for about 30-45 min. Not bad in my book. The food was awesome. I loved the bun that the burgers are on. Tasted like a toasted yeast roll. Definitely one of the best burgers I've had. The only negative thing is the small waiting area. It's in front of the door. Traffic was very heavy and the wind coming in the door was cold.

I've seen several people on facebook complain about MugShots in uptown being unorganized and didn't want to believe it. On a Saturday night the wait time was 1.5 hours and we waited 2 hours only to see strangers who came after us be seated first, but we wasn't sure. Our suspicion was confirmed twice. First a mutual friend we know came after us was seated before us. Next we heard a man outside with his family complain about the same thing. They were skipping over people who waited hours. There seemed to be more than one waiting list which makes no sense. Once we co fronted them, one girl with an "I don't care" face claimed she had called us, despite the fact we were waiting in the waiting seats inside. I will never go back to MugShots in Uptown.

Went there with recommendations from the bellstaff at the Sheraton. The person I was with ordered a burger, I went for the bowl of soup and a side salad. It was a TOTAL WASTE OF MY $10!!! The bowl was so small I thought it was a joke. It was a broccoli and cheese soup and it tasted like a bowl of cold salt....absolutely no flavor. The side salad consisted of a tiny...and I mean tiny...bowl of iceberg lettuce with a few pieces of tomato and red onion. The total was $8.50. I left a tip even though the service was not the best and the food was the worst! Oh, and I wanted a cup of hot tea was told that they didn't have any. Hard to believe for the prices they charge that they couldn't pretend and just put cold tea in a cup and heat it!!!

Much better choice than across the street! Good beer selection and the only reason I could not give 5 stars was they ran out of Jamesons. Chili was top notch and went great with the very fresh house side salad. Frozen mugs for the Yuenling carmel sauce for the ice cream...just perfect!

Slow with bringing food out... First person arrived at 6:15 for our group. After an hour in a half wait, we were seated and just got our food at 9:45pm. It just opened so maybe it will be better as time moves forward.

The one in Vestavia is ten times better. My wife and frat brother went here the other night and were found wanting. First, there was a wait, which we expected. But when we finally got our seats, and then our drink orders, some little small light red headed employee came up asking if we just sat down at that table. We said yes. She said Well, you need to get up and go wait for a table. We said "no, we already waited for a table, they gave us the buzzer and everything." She said "Oh they did huh? let me see it." We said "the girl that sat us down took it." She said "oh so you dont have a buzzer. you need to go sign in and wait on a table." I said that we did, she said we didn't" I was like "Little girl, Chris. Party of three. Go up there, grab the list and you will see 'Chris. Party of Three.' I presume there will be a line going through it, meaning that we are sitting here because yall sat us here!" She said, "Enjoy your meal then" and walked off. I had to argue w/ her little butt before she left us alone, wanting proof that we were sat there by the staff... I show proof of insurance to the cops if i get pulled over... im not about to show proof of permission to sit at a table to no lil girl. Find that junk yourself. Our waitress was nice tho (not lil red head devil, but another little skinny dark haired girl)... We were tryin to put my frat brother on her, but he was being hard headed. I thought she liked him personally. And then we got the food and I realized that if she liked us, the kitchen sure as hell didnt. Our portion sizes were ridiculously small compared to what we usually get at Vestavia. All that said.... Red headed devil girl is the worst hostess yall got. Please fire her rude lil self. Skinny dark haired girl was cool. Food was mediocre and small portioned in comparison to Vestavia's Mugshots. Probably wont come back.

Visited this location on a Sunday afternoon and experienced very poor service. The female blonde bartender was moving at a snail's pace. After we were asked what we wanted to drink, we were ignored from that point on. I caught another gentleman's attention behind the bar and placed an order for an appetizer, which he seemed a little reluctant to do. After waiting over 30 minutes for anything food to be served, I caught a young redhead female server who brought out our burgers and told her we had not yet received the app....... After looking very confused, she said she would check on it, only to pass by me and my date twice more without saying anything. Well, the guy behind the bar returned and that's when I told him I felt like we were being ignored. Other customers who came in after us received their food before us. I'm the customer, I manage a hotel so I understand there are hiccups from time to time. But just acknowledge me. I asked them to cxl the appetizer which came out 2minutes later all of a sudden. They said it was on the house. I refused it, not looking for free food just wanted a good burger with good service. The manager came out to void the app and never even spoke. Sad!

So, I went back on a Wednesday after work and tried the McDonald burger this time, which was delicious. Service was particularly slow on both food and drink; however, our server was very friendly. This location was particularly loud on this visit, a lot of which is due to the building's acoustics, and this made it difficult to hear conversations across the table (we sat at a 6 top table) and for our server to hear us at times. Overall, I enjoyed the food more this time but the service less. I am sure to visit again.

We stopped because we wanted hamburgers.... Mugshots was good... Buns were great... Hamburgers were mediocre.. Never asked how we wanted them cooked... All came out well done. My husband and I got the McDonald which was good and filling. Our daughter got the pizza burger...which she said had way too much sauce. Overall, it was good.

Food is ok and service is a little slow.....maybe I was just HANGRY.... But maybe not.....decor is cool and I could see where people who in the area may stop but not really a destination place where I would drive across town just to eat there. I've tried and thought it was mediocre. Anyway that's my thoughts for what it's worth.

Havin' a good time - that's their motto. They put it on the cups, the koozies, the wall. Seems like it has potential to be a good time place. TVs are everywhere, showing everything from baseball playoffs to Futurama. And they give shout outs to customers who give them shout outs in form of photos of said customers bearing Mugshots paraphernalia in the far reaches of Earth plastered all over the restaurant. I can't decide if that's cool or tacky. Maybe a little of both. Maybe I recognize that girl in the Eiffel Tower picture. The layout here is kinda weird. The bar is located behind a brick partition, and you can see it just fine upon entering the door; but to get to it, you have to venture around a big brick wall, which raised my paranoia that maybe the burgers are Soylent Green after all and maybe I'm next to the grinder and they don't want me to suspect anything......naahhhhhh. I sat at the bar and received prompt and friendly, but seemingly bland service. My All-American burger arrived and looked and tasted fine. The fries were fine. My Truck Stop was served in a frosty mug; so frosty, in fact, that the head of the beer was half slushy. The beer was actually the best part of the meal. The first time I dined at a Mugshots was in Tuscaloosa several years ago, and I remember it being great. I've eaten at the Vestavia location several times, and have recommended it to others. One day I might even be one of those people that takes a Mugshots t-shirt to a foreign country just so I can have a shot at getting my photo on the tacky/cool wall. But there's something lacking here, and I can't quite put my finger on what it is, exactly. Maybe it hasn't developed its own personality yet, and it just feels manufactured. Maybe it's like what Ruby Tuesday was before they attempted that fine dining-ish thing, when they had all the tchotchkes on the wall and the sorta local-but-national feel or whatever that was that made them famous. There's just too many maybes here. I'm kind of indifferent. I really wish it wasn't so "meh." At least they're havin' a good time.

This place was my first eatery in Birmingham. My honey and I wanted to try some wings since we are a fan of wings and burgers. We got mild wings as an appetizer they were pretty good only thing I would suggest is to get them with extra sauce if you like it that way otherwise they can be a little dry BUT my mushroom swiss burger mmmmmm it was seasoned just right... and my taste buds thanked me!! I hope to visiy again and check out other items
