I've got to be honest, I kind of consider myself a Japanese restaurant connoisseur. I love going to them, so I know the drill, and have my check list on what to expect - all in all I was not overly impressed. Nice atmosphere and the service was ok, but it was missing the hibachi 'spirit'. Who knows, maybe our cook was having a bad day, but normally when you go for hibachi you go for the show - flipping knives, cook-top fires, playing with food - all the stuff your ma never let you get away with at home- but this was more of a lackluster experience for me and my date. The one unique exception to this experience that is worth mentioning was their birthday celebration. Mid meal, the lights suddenly dimmed in the room, and disco ball in the center of the room lit up - for a second I thought the restaurant was moonlighting as a 60's night club - but soon enough we realized what was taking place as a hip-hop version of the birthday song began playing and the staff surrounded the birthday party with a dessert to enjoy. My suggestion: Tell them it's your birthday when you stop in - its worth seeing the disco ball in action

We've eaten her a few times and the food was great. Both times we came around 2pm and they were very receptive to cook for us on the open grill. Staff had a great attitude and the food was great. Would love to see a delivery service. My mouth is watering, but just don't feel like getting out in the weather today.

Service was great sushi was good. This is a surprisingly large sushi restaurant but fairly empty when we went. Service was great. My water glass was never empty. Which that may sound simple to some but seeing how I drink more water than a camel that is impressive to me. Sushi: Sushi was good. Not the best but far from the worst. We like to try a different sushi most trips and had the rock n roll it was pretty tasty. My Kani was good. My Maguro was decent quality but fairly small for the 4.50 price tag. Atmosphere: As said earlier it is huge on the inside but at 5:30 on a Sunday we were 1 of 2 couples there.

I pass this place at least once a week and finally decided to try it out, I'm glad I did. I ordered the spicy tuna roll while my date had the California roll. For an entree we both had the steak and shrimp which came with soup, salad, fried rice and noodles. The food was fresh and the service was great. I will definitely be coming back.

OMG the head lady that works here is SO RUDE! I called in a take out order, and less than 5 minutes later I called back to cancel it because my husband found out he had to work late. So I call and speak to this little girl and ask her to cancel. I get a call back almost immediately from the female in charge saying, "you call me?" I told her that i had just called to cancel our order. She immediately starts yelling at me.."What do you mean you want to cancel? I jusr f***ing made all your sushi!" I told her that I apologize but we would not be coming to get it. Secondly it was a fairly large order so I'm pretty positive she didn't make it all in less than 5 minutes! She then strts screaming at me, "Wel you need to f***ing come get it because I just made all your f***ing sushi for you!" I hung up on her! I am filing a formal complaint with the BBB today! This is ridiculous and that manager should be fired! Worst customer service I have ever received in my entire life!

This is hands down my favorite Japanese steak house in Birmingham. We've been eating there for years. The food is flavorful and fresh. The hibachi chefs are always entertaining and do a good job of engaging our kids which really makes the show pop for them. If you haven't tried them out yet, give them a shot. I think you'll be glad you did.

Great option for a nice sit down dinner or a quick lunch. Versatility is very prominent here, as you can order from the hibachi or from the menu, and either is absolutely delicious. The meat is always very fresh, and the taste of it is pretty good as well. The portion size is very large, and although it might be a bit more expensive, you get your money's worth. Service is always wonderful, and I've never had to wait more than 10 or 20 minutes for my food.

Good Hibachi and normal dining as well. Lots of sushi and the best Chicken Tempura I can find in Birmingham. Fried rice, soup, and salad are typical Hibachi, which is exactly why I like it. A slight bit pricy, but luckily I've never left hungry.

We were craving Japanese and looked for places near us. We were sat 2pm where most close Japanese restaurants close then. My. Fugi was so great at accommodating. The service was fabulous and friendly. The food was also very well prepared. The sushi was AMAZING!!! We will definitely be going back.

The kids love the novelty of seeing their food prepared-- and large amounts of fire helps too. The Hibachi food is good but a tad too buttery and attitudes of servers can be spotty. For example, another waitress dropped wet dishes on the table next to us, spraying water on all of us and never even apologized. She was mad at another employee and walked away screaming at him in Japanese. But OUR server was happy and great tonight. For our kid's birthday, they sing a song with the disco ball going around and a brought her a cupcake with a giant, flaming sparkler which brought a huge smile to our child. Good stuff

It's not good when waitstaff calls teppan table a "hibachi". I've eaten here twice only at the sushi bar. First time I was hangry and wanted a bite and dropped in for lunch and ordered one of their house rolls and a seaweed salad. To be honest, that experience three months ago turned me off to their food. The roll was overly sauced it masked the salmon and tuna to taste like a mush. The seaweed salad was bland and I mistakenly thought it would have some octopus or squid. No, it was just a big bowl of unflavorful kelp. So, I decided to try it again recently for chirashi after a movie with friends. What I got was a huge disappointment. It was a 15 piece sashimi order served on a golf ball sized amount of dry stale sushi rice with clipped tobiko on it. Not much rice at all really and no soup or salad (usual fare for chirashi). The fish was Sake, Tai, Hamachi, Maguro and Shiro Maguro. That's it. The only fish that was flavorful was the Hamachi (yellowtail). The rest were all wrapped in plastic, indicating not much of a sushi clientele. Service was good and everyone was nice. However, it is disconcerting to hear a teppan table referred to as a hibachi by the waitstaff. The sushi guy (won't call a chinese guy an itame-san as it was not deserved and might offend him if his parents lived through the atrocities by Japan on China in the 1930's) didn't even KNOW the word "teppan". I laugh when people who review say they're a Japanese restaurant connoisseur, and call it a "hibachi". Am I being nitpicky? No. Research it yourself if you want to know the difference. I am convinced never to read Yelp reviews on restaurants in Alabama that are beyond local fare (Saw's, Highlands, Hot-N-Hot) or meat (Highlands, Flemmings).

My favorite place on 280 for lunch. I've never had a meal that didn't taste great. Huge portions at a great price. Hibachi meals with soup and rice for $8-$10. Two sushi rolls for $8.95. They also have a full bar if you want to get hammered and then sleep at your desk. The service is always friendly and knowledgeable. It's very rarely crowded.

Friendly, attentive staff. Great tasting food with good sized portions for the money. The Ben Box is a great lunch choice but all dinner options are great.
