Melt Avondale Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

The salad portion on my to go order was tiny - even asked the server if I'd mistakenly ordered a side salad. There was about 1.5 cups lettuce, 4oz grilled chicken. While the grilled and poppyseed dressing were delicious, it left me hungry and disappointed after spending around $12. I think I'll order a sandwich next time.

I wish I could give this place 10 stars because it is amazing! By far the best grilled cheese I have ever had! I went for lunch and it was pretty crowded, but the service was still excellent and the food came out fairly fast. It has a cool atmosphere and seems like great place to grab a bite to eat with friends. I will definitely be a regular!

I was really impressed by the menu at melt. I had the chicken salad melt and it was fantastic. We got the Matilda Rolls for the table and...oh wow. I did not want to share! We also got the texas caviar for the table which was so-so. I can make better texas caviar than what they served, so for the price it definitely wasn't worth it. Just kind of "eh". The other folks at my table seemed happy with their meals as well, so all in all I think it was a great experience! It was sort of busy, and there isn't really much waiting space, so everyone was just kind of clustered around the front door. If I were melt, I would get some seating for long waits, due to the deliciousness!

I have been here twice, once with my husband and kids then once with girlfriends. The Firebird is delicious and so is the queso dip. I like the drink selection but on both occasions some of our drinks were brought to us with a less than usual amount. My husband's beer looked like someone had already taken about 5 sips from it...or it had been spilled. Same with a few of the mixed drinks. Other than that we all enjoyed Melt. Service was fast and friendly, the food was a hit and it's in a good area in walking distance of other restaurants and bars.

Really enjoyed this place. Had a great atmosphere and I loved the outdoor patio area (which is screened in!). Our server was friendly and attentive. The food was excellent, I had the "Holy Caesars Ghost," and it had the perfect amount of heat. Great part of town too, be sure to take a walk in Avondale Park, and maybe grab another drink at Parkside!

Really enjoyed dinner here. The Flyin' Hawaiian was really spicy, warm, and melty on a pretzel bun. The roasted pineapple wasn't overly sweet. The Loaded Matilda was wonderfully refreshing, even if I couldn't detect the vodka. I got the wrong side, but no biggie, we had a great time chatting and enjoying food on the patio. Great addition to Avondale.

First time trying this place and went with the Buffalo Chicken. Great food with a cool atmosphere!

Great food and fun atmosphere. Have loved everything I have eaten there. The Flying Hawaiian is incredible. Only wish it was a little bigger because it is always so packed but I imagine that is because it has become so popular. Can't say enough good things about this hip spot to eat.

6 lady friends and I gathered at Melt for eats and catch-up time yesterday evening. We arrived around 6pm and were promptly seated at a booth table which was tight but manageable for our larger group. Our waitress and all the people who were serving us were superb. Kind, efficient and helpful when we asked questions about the menu or were looking for suggestions. We ordered a mix of beer and cocktails, all of which people were satisfied with. We also split the tempura veggies for the table: a delicious choice. When it came to ordering we got a full spread of the various sandwiches on the menu. The sandwiches came out in aluminum pan/plates and seemed a little haphazardly put together (fries had been dumped on top of mine and the top/bottom bun was barely lined up leaving a good portion of the sandwich contents in precarious balance) I'll speak only to my own, the Flyin' Hawaiian, as far as the taste: it was good but not anything great. A little too greasy for my liking (personal preference, to be sure) and nothing that really knocked my socks off. At $10 a pop, it seemed a little steep for a 'meh' sandwich: the ingredients were average, the presentation was 'meh' and the side (fries) was nothing special (I saw the fruit cup too, a little pitiful). I was uncharged for requesting mayo to accompany my fries ($0.50) which wouldn't have been a problem if the up-charged portion had been larger than a half ramekin full. All in all, an okay but not a stellar food experience. The service is fantastic but, for me, the food was a little blase and a tad overpriced.

I was very excited about trying Melt. Parking wasn't great. Quickly seating a table. The food was completely greasy and had entirely too much butter. Your stomach will hurt from all the butter and grease. Nothing about the food will make me want to come back. Definitely not worth it.

This tiny, trendy, and tremendously tasty place was a complete surprise to me. The exterior looks a smidge pretentious but the interior is deconstructed and perhaps even accidental, supporting the general vibe of artsy Avondale. After a few moments inside you discover that like your meal, everything is 100% intentional. Cheese takes center stage in nearly all the menu items, and local beers comprise much of the bar offerings. Our breathtakingly cute waitress (how did I not get her name??) gave us perfect service. Put this place on your short list but consider an off-peak time so you don't have a long wait.

I really enjoyed the interior of this restaurant. Works well in the Avondale neighborhood. Our server was very attentive. My main complaint had to do with the flavor of the food based off of the menu description. I ordered the Hail Caesar Sandwich, which stated that it would have Caesar dressing with ghost peppers cheese. I did not taste any of the Caesar dressing nor did the ghost pepper bring the heat as was explained by our server. You could told me it was poblano pepper if I didn't read the menu and I wouldn't have argued with you. Also, it cost $11 + tax. Lower it down to $8-9 and I think it would have been a better price point. On a subsequent visit I got the Ragin' Cajun and there wasn't much flavor to it either. That was the comments from several of diners that I was with. Maybe the so called spicy sandwiches are not the route to go. I'm not asking the sandwiches to be so spicy that their inedible, but kicking up the scoville units would do wonders IMHO. I'd like to go back and try the mushroom sandwich as the description made it look tasty.

Nothing too exciting about this place... Which is tough In a town with a lot of good food options. The service is so-so. We probably won't go back.

Really unique spot food was excellent. However, service was awful. The serving staff was much more focused on socializing with each other then taking care of there customers. Great food means nothing without prompt service

DECOR spot on. The food........nothing special. Recently saw MELT featured (August 2014) on DIner, Drive-Ins, & Dives and thought we would check it out since we live in Forest Park and believe in supporting local businesses. The Black & Blue featured on DDD was not offered or available. I tried the MAC & Cheese which was ok, but had no flavor, nothing special. The condiments especially the #41 Mustard was Fantastic. YUM!

I'm always dubious about brand new restaurants, but Melt was amazing. We had the Matilda Rolls as an appetizer. So good! I had the Flyin Hawaiian, and my husband had the Rajin Cajun. Both were really good and SPICY! There are so many things that look good on the menu. I'll definitely be back!

I stopped in with my son over the weekend and we were not disappointed. We shared the fried cheese appetizer, served like egg rolls. Very yummy, a little spicy but not too much. My son had the Mac Melt and fries, and he loved it! 2 of his fave foods, Mac-n-cheese and grilled cheese. I had the tomato soup and their burger. Everything was phenomenal and very flavorful. I noticed many nice and friendly staff members, but I also noticed several who were awfully rude or unfriendly. We were sat incredibly close to the spot servers pick up drinks from the bar or food to run. And the woman with the hot pink hair barking RUNNER every 10 seconds put a serious mood damper on our meal. Especially since there were always employees standing close enough to get their attention without the loud barking. Also, I wish it was a requirement for the female servers clothing to cover their bits. I have zero need or desire to have your belly hanging over you shorts waistband peeking at me. Wear a long shirt FFS. And cutting your shorts in a half moon style in order to make your ass hang out does not garner a larger tip from me. My 7yr old son said to me "Mom, why is she dressed like that? It's kind of gross." I get being casual and trendy, but some standards would be nice. It's still a job after all.

Did not live up to the hype. I went into it knowing I wouldn't be eating healthy so I ordered the Mac Melt which is essentially a grilled cheese on Texas toast with house made Mac and cheese inside of it. The sandwich was actually pretty awesome. It's cheesy and buttery and perfectly sinful. It came with a side of house made chips. These were honestly kind of gross. They were cold, weirdly dark, and very very oily. I couldn't even eat them. I ordered the pretty in pink cocktail which was insanely sweet and syrupy tasting. I could only get about half of it down. The service was miserable. They clearly didn't want to be there. The room was freezing and they had TVs up ridiculously loud. I really wanted to love Melt as everyone had been saying how much they love it. I just found the food mediocre, the cocktails sub par, and the atmosphere unwelcoming.

Whatever you are doing, stop and go to Melt. If you are trying to decide what to eat today, eat Melt. If you are trying to decide what to eat after you leave the Avondale Brewery, eat Melt. If you are looking for dessert with your date, change your plans and get Melt. bottom line, this place is the BOMB. I have been lucky enough to try multiple sandwiches here: 3 AMIGOS smoked ham, sliced chorizo, fried egg, habanero jack on sourdough....BOMB BUFFALO CHICKEN buffalo-sauced chicken tenders & monterey jack on texas toast w/ side of miss fancy's ranch!!! BOMB and my favorite... BURGER 2 1/4 lb patties of angus beef, american cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, matilda sauce on texas toast LOVE THIS PLACE! Stop reading and go eat!

Amazing quality food. Husband and I halted the Mac melt with bacon and sister in law got the Greek salad with chicken. All fresh ingredients everything was super delicious.

One of my favorite places to eat in Avondale. My new found treasure there is the homemade ranch... It's yumminess in a little container. I dipped those deliciously crisp, beer battered fries in it and thought I was in heaven! My go-to sammich is the classic melt, add turkey and bacon. Melt Avondale is not a place to eat when you are on a strict budget, but it's a great stop when you want to splurge on a childhood favorite.

From what I can tell, this place is super fantastic! So many great choices and I don't think you can go wrong with any of em. Word to the wise:GO EARLY! This place fills up fast and if you're in the center of the trendy restaurant, ppl will surely be standing over you. For starters, the apps are just ok. We've had the chips and cheese dip and the Matilda bites (fancy fried cheese) and both are just OK. Not worth the LOAD of calories since you're already gonna be bad. I've been twice now and can asure you...the meatloft (winter special) and mac & cheese melt are both sinful, but amazingly awesome. If you enjoy healthy food, you'll know you're doing your body a disservice in the act....but it shouldn't do too much damage unless you choose to frequent such sinful desires. Melt is a great! Super Happy Eats.

Best grilled cheese ever. I got a Mac and cheese grilled cheese. It was delicious. The menu had a variety of different kind of unique grilled cheeses-- from heirloom tomato and pesto to Cajun. There was also an original grilled cheese. You can pick from four different side options-- fruit, Greek pasta salad, home made chips, and fries. I got the chips and they were seasons perfectly. They also have an incredible bacon Bloody Mary. I wish I lived closer so I could come back!

Melt had fresh flavors. There were two things I loved especially- the fried pickles appetizer and the French fries. The batter of the fried pickles was crispy and worked well with the tangy dill flavor. An added plus was the jalapeño ranch! The French fries were similar to the beer battered fries I have experienced in a few restaurants. Great flavor with a crunch. Here are the meals and ratings: Pesto flatbread (special for the day): 8/10 Buffalo chicken salad: 8/10 3 meat sandwich: 7/10 Fries: 9/10 Fries Pickles: 9/10

I came here for lunch with my wife. Wait was almost 20 minutes and my suggestion to them is have a better hostess who's friendlier. This small girl never cracked a smile. Standing next to her made me uncomfortable and my wait seem longer than usual. Wait staff I had was efficient and pleasant. Food.. Simple food made tasty by adding bunch of stuff. All I could think about when eating was, why didn't I think of this... This leads to value.. Being so simple, I couldn't believe what I paid. But it was good and unique enough to justify. I'm sure I might crave this. But since one of my Bham favorite restaurant, Rowes is across the street, I probably would support them instead here.

Sorry Melt, your truck was better than your restaurant. :( That feels very weird to type out. However, hear me out. Melt Truck was awesome because the people making the food were very talented and very consistent. The grilled cheeses were worth the wait because they came out piping hot and exactly what you wanted. Now that Melt is a restaurant, I guess they had to sacrifice some things to keep up with orders. The food often comes out cold (heresy to a grilled cheese!) and the flavors aren't as great. The chips are definitely not made to order. The fries may be, but aren't consistent. My biggest beef with Melt is their tomato soup. I know that's silly, but this is a grilled cheese restaurant. What goes with grilled cheese? Tomato soup. Unfortunately, theirs is consistently cold, mucky, and tastes fake. Such a shame. Melt gets three stars because I love their truck and every now and then their food is very good. The space is cool and their indoor patio area is very well done. Their drinks aren't strong but the flavors are good.

Melt is truly an amazing experience. Great options and they let you create as many different sandwich combos that you can think of! Cool atmosphere and the quick service make for a great place to hang out. Grab an Avondale brew while you're there!

I love this place, some of the best casual dinning in Birmingham. The staff is so friendly! The food is equally amazing; salads and sandwiches are creative. I don't usually eat meat but the Ruben was top notch!

A friend of ours told us that this was a great new place that we had to try. We had about a 45 minute wait, but it was a Saturday evening and they had some games to play outside while we waited. They had cornhole, jenga... so it really wasn't that bad. They also let you have beer outside on their front 'yard' area. We were seated in the little screened-in porch area. It was small, but since it was a nice night, it was perfectly fine. One cool note about the porch, they allow dogs! We ordered the street nachos. They were delicious. Tons of bbq and other delicious items on it. We also ordered the fried pickles. These were hot and crispy! Our food took a bit of time, but it really wasn't too long of a wait, considering the night and time we went. I ordered the Mac-n-cheese grilled cheese and it was super tasty. The bread was slathered in butter so it was nice and crispy and the mac was warm and melty. My fiancee ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich, I normally don't like buffalo chicken anything, but this one had a great flavor and wasn't too spicy. We also ordered the fried oreos. I didn't love them, but I'm not a big fried-chocolate/sweet person. Overall great experience, great atmosphere, and not too expensive!

Having tried and enjoyed the buffalo chicken sandwich from the food truck, I decided it was time to give the restaurant a whirl. After figuring out where to park, I was able to get a seat at the bar and promptly order. My food was ready in a reasonable amount of time and was great. I ordered the 3 amigos sandwich and beer-battered fries. Definitely will return.

I've been here 4 times and every time my food has been fantastic! I would recommend the specials of the day. Last time it was a pimiento grilled cheese sandwich and was so good. My favorite by far is the Mac and cheese melt with bacon. Be prepared for a heart attack / carb coma because their sandwiches are perfectly grilled with lots of butter & oozing with cheese! The only negative is that it's a small place and many times has a long wait, especially during peak times.

These "Melt" sandwiches are GUD! Can't believe this was my first visit. I've never had a more difficult time at a restaurant trying to decide what I wanted to eat. I wanted a "sammich" for sure but there like 5 or 6 that sounded good on paper. I finally made a gut decision and went with the 3 Amigos - smoked ham, sliced chorizo, fried egg, and habanero jack on sourdough bread. Boy was it great! I also was convinced to try some of my wife's meatloaf sammich. Usually, meatloaf is one of those things that I'm skeptical to try because either it can go really right or really wrong. Melt's meatloaf is really right! The rosemary ketchup, the fries... yum, all delicious! My group even ordered a cheese dip/queso appetizer of some sort... delish as well! Atmosphere here is true to the Avondale area of town. Has real character and a charm about it. Including some good ol' cornhole out front. Very spacious inside, including bar-seating. Service - excellent, price to taste ratio - excellent. I honestly can't wait to visit again when I'm on that side of town next.

The sandwiches are good, but my favorite thing at Melt might be the ranch dressing. I am hoping with the next seasonal menu change they have a little more variety in the sandwich offerings. (Bring back Black and Bleu and El Jefe!)

It was a quick visit without any food but the service was courteous, friendly and very attentive. I'll definitely be back to enjoy the cool laid back atmosphere that reminds me of so many places in Chicago... hoping the food is just as good as the service.

I love this place. I tell people this and I often get responses such as a disdainful look accompanied by a response such as, "If I go eat I want more than just a grilled cheese." I'm just like, "Do you even menu brah?" But seriously I've had a huge crush on Paget Pizitz ever since she opened the food truck and reminded me of my favorite character from the short lived comedy "Better off Ted." (Yeah, if you have a pretty face, good food, and a sense of humor I'll pretty much instantly love you.) As she serves my food I notice an accidental onion ring had fallen on my plate and I joked about how the "accidental onion" tastes so much better than any onion rings you purposefully order. A few minutes later she walks up with a plate of onion rings and says,"The only thing better than an accidental onion ring are free onion rings." Rock on Paget. Rock on Melt. I seriously love that you can eat with your wife AND get a bottle of wine and still get out of here for around 50 dollars. Their waitstaff is also pretty awesome. I don't know their hiring methods, but they're doing something right! Edit: They have redone their onion rings. They are now homemade! They are shoestring style onion rings that are battered and fried in house. Can I add a star to a five star review for this?

I really enjoyed my meal. It was a great sandwich and I'd love to return and try their other items. And I'm always a huge supporter of local places. That's why it's so difficult to leave such a great place only 2 stars. But lunch for 2 people, one app and 2 sandwiches, we left with a $30+ bill. And that's not including drinks, we both had water. For the average person, a $15 lunch is just too much, especially considering the amount of food. Luckily we ordered an app, otherwise we would have left hungry. Even though I was definitely not "full." For about $10 per person, you can get even better food at Saws, not to mention more of it. I'll probably return, not for lunch, but given the choice, I'd go with Saws or Post Office. It's not lobster, it's a grilled cheese. Sorry Melt, but the amount of food is nowhere near the price I had to pay for a tiny sandwich.

Our favorite restaurant in Birmingham! We have not had anything here that we have been disappointed with. Their mac and cheese melt with a sub side of tomato basil soup is out of this world! Don't forget to try the fried Oreos. Speciality drinks are delicious, but WAY over priced.

Perfect comfort food for a dismal winter day. I've been twice now, both on colder dreary days and was glad I got there early, they filled up fast both trips. The server was really nice, our waters were refilled often, and the pricing seems really fair/not too expensive for a good filling lunch. I've had the grilled cheese, the Mac Melt (grilled macaroni and cheese sandwich!) and the tomato basil soup. The Mac Melt was so delicious. It is also quite photogenic. Worthy of all weather days, but especially the cruddier ones.

Ok, I know it's only been open to the public for a few days, but I've been there twice...with plans to go back this weekend. I may have a problem. Oh, well. Nothing a good sandwich can't fix. So on my first trip I only had time for an appetizer and had the Matilda rolls. They're like cheese sticks with kick. They put red pepper flakes inside the rolls to give it something special. There are 4 of them in an order. It's a perfect appetizer to take the edge off your hunger without filling you up. On my second trip, I had the rolls again along with the sliders. I subbed the mayo for their rosemary ketchup, and it was oh so good. I washed it down with Trim Tab's Raspberry Berlinger Weisse (spelling?) beer. So excited they carry this beer btw. If you haven't tried it go...now. Overall, loved this place. Great menu, great decor, great overall vibe. You can tell they really take a lot of pride in what they do.

I've only been here a handful of times but I've always had a great experience. The service was fast and attentive. The food is hot and tastes very fresh. I recommend the fried pickles for an appetizer, and my favorite sandwich so far is the buffalo chicken. So good! Also, my wife says the salads are delicious too. I wouldn't know though I don't eat that type of greenery. Don't forget to get the fried Oreos for dessert too! Overall gave them 4 stars because the bun on my hamburger was burned. Everything else was great!

I've never had a meal here that was really outstanding. At best, Melt is average. The best thing on the menu is the burger, but we've got a bunch of places that offer great burgers. The biggest disappointments were the tomato soap (tasted like it came out of a can), the grilled cheese (greasy and lacking in actual cheese flavor. Tasted like it was made of four boring, tasteless cheeses) the buffalo chicken sandwich (poorly executed: too much sauce, the bread fell apart). They do have a few great cocktails.

I stopped by Melt for a quick lunch while on a business trip in Birmingham. Parking was somewhat tricky, but it was able to find a spot after circling the block several times. The restaurant itself is very inviting, with a cornhole game setup out front. The restaurant was pretty packed, which wasn't surprising, since it was the lunch rush. I was able to get a seat at the bar without any trouble, and the bartender was prompt and curtious. All of the items on the menu looked good, but I decided to get an old fashioned grilled cheese with bacon. It took a little while for my food to arrive, which didn't surprise me, given the crowd. I did notice, that when I got my food, they had forgotten to add the bacon! Which kinda sucked, because I was really in the mood for bacon. But in the end, it didn't matter the food was delicious! I would definitely go back to this restaurant if I am ever in the area.

I have a major problem with Melt! I simply cannot stop eating here. I blame them for at least 10 pounds of weight gain since they opened about a year ago just a stone's throw from my workplace. I have eaten here an embarrassing number of times (30?) and I have never had anything less than delicious. My favorites are the spicy El Jefe and the mouthwatering pimento cheese BLT. The handmade chips are amazing too. The only time I've had a cocktail here (I'm usually here at lunch, so no cocktails), I had the Matilda - a blackberry lemonade with vodka. I could have drunk a gallon of this amazing nectar. I'm smitten. Love love love Melt!

The food is great, the service is ok. I had the Fryin Hawaiian: jalepeno jack, Cajun seasoning, smoked ham, grilled pinapple, on a pretzel bun. It was very good coupled with the Trim Tab Revelator Pale Ale. They also have some great cocktails as well. It was crowded on a Friday night, but we were seated for 2 within 15 minutes or so. The place is well decorated and lively; great porch and outdoor seating. There are many things I want to try on their menu, so I definitely will be going back. Fair warning: everything is about $1 or $2 overpriced, but still worth paying for. Eat it!

We stopped by for dinner last Thursday with a couple of friends and were seated immediately around 6:15 PM. By 6:40, this place was packed so they are doing something right. We started out with the fritto misto tempura vegetables. Great hand on the fry, not too thick of a batter with lots of onions but unfortunately I do not recall what else. This is not a bad thing, I was just starving. There were none left! I like the sweet chili glaze but we should have requested it on the side (our fault) and it would have been nice to have a spicy sauce option too. With that said, their house made mustard is somewhat sweet but also a little tart and went well with this (well, with everything actually). Paget was nice enough to also bring us out a plate of fries gratis and talk with us a bit, which is always nice and a welcome touch showing that management is looking out for everyone. Note, I do not personally know Paget but she was super nice to us. I ordered the Reuben and was pretty impressed. Now, I will say that perhaps the edge goes to Max's or Itzzy's as far as quality and quantity of pastrami, but the pastrami on this sandwich is not far behind. It tastes artisan and was delicious plus as expected, Melt does a much better job of pressing/grilling a sandwich which never comes out toasted or buttery enough at Max's). I realize this is a personal preference as a Jewish Reuben is not a melt per se, but the one at Melt surely is. Otherwise, the Reuben was perfect as was the side of fries although I could not eat as many after Paget's nice gesture. Sally had the Flaming Lips sandwich which while not very spicy, was a bit hit regardless. The key is the grilled jalapenos which were there but not overpowering. I would definitely order this again. I can't wait to return to try the burger and other sandwiches. With that said, the minor miss was that they do not have a lot of options on draft with only five choices. Since I always love a Good People IPA (and only had one that night), this is not a big deal but just wanted to let others know the craft draft options are somewhat limited. They have some bottled domestics too. Keep it up Melt!

This was my first time to try Melt so I'm going to be open minded. A group of us was meeting around 5:30 on a Wednesday afternoon to check the place out and have a bite to eat. I was the second to arrive and the waiter obliged me with a glass of wine while we waited for the rest of the crew to arrive. Within 10 minutes the whole gang was there and we proceeded to place some orders. By this time the restaurant was beginning to fill up. We ordered the chips and queso which was delicious. It was a great starter to go with the ice cold beers and wine. I had ordered a grilled chicken salad but when my dish arrived it was a chicken salad salad. Not quite what I wanted but I will say it was very tasty. Not too much mayonnaise and the chicken was diced up well. The salad was just the perfect combination to get my veggies in. I hope they will keep this on the menu! The decor is pretty unique with it's brick interior and canoe that doubles as a light. As the place started to fill up and have customers waiting I was surprised that the noise level was okay. We could talk amongst ourselves and not have to yell to be heard. They do have a covered patio that I would like to try when the weather cools some and I'm guessing that the doors will open up onto another outdoor patio as well. I'm looking forward to coming back and bringing some of my work mates since it's close to my office. Great location though the parking can be a bit tricky. Glad to see you guys in Avondale!

At 11:30 on a Tuesday, our only seating options were the bar or the patio. We opted for the patio in the nick of time, as it quickly filled up around us. Every time the wait staff came to our table, it was a different person, but somehow we managed to get our food quickly, even before other people who had already been seated when we arrived. I think between taking our drink order, food order, bringing the food and refilling our drinks, we were helped by four different people. And I had to ask three of them for ketchup until I got it. So, maybe a little disorganized on the service end of things? The food, however, would have made an even longer wait worth it. I got the buffalo chicken melt and substituted habanero cheese - while delicious, it was not as spicy as I'd hoped. My dude got the Great Caesar's Ghost and, as mentioned in another review, it was not as spicy as one was led to believe. Also, I'm pretty sure the ranch was made with manna from heaven, though, because I couldn't get enough.

Cheese, bread, and butter all fried and gooey. What's there not to like? Each time I have eaten here it is consistent and delicious. Waiting on a table at 3:00 on a Saturday should be a sign of the quality sammicheese these wonderful people produce. I recommend the chicken salad melt and the buffalo chicken! Love it when we get seated with our girl Seama. Keep it cheesey Melt!

I am glad to see so many new restaurants opening up in the Avondale area, and was excited when this place opened. Melt has a good selection of sandwiches, some of which are really good and some of which are just OK. I found it a little expensive for a sandwich. The drink selection is OK, and also a bit on the expensive side. Inside can get pretty noisy when it gets crowded, but they have a nice little screened in patio that I found enjoyable. Not somewhere I would go all the time, but OK every once and a while for a quick bite.

If you're in the mood for something delicious to satisfy your food cravings, you need to eat at Melt. The restaurant is located down 4th ave south just a few blocks away from the Avondale brewery. It's a bit tricky to find parking, but trust me it's worth it. There are a number of great sandwiches to try, but my absolute favorite is the firebird, basically a decked out grilled turkey sandwich on sourdough with the best part being the Sriracha aoli. I definitely recommend getting the fries as a side because they are crunchy and cooked to perfection. Melt even had a mustard sauce and rosemary ketchup that both pair perfectly with the fries. Sandwiches average around $10, which might be a bit pricey for some, but there's plenty of food. One tip, definitely get there before 12:00 if you're heading there for lunch because the place gets packed fast.

Ok, we all love the Melt Truck. The main problem is finding the darn thing! I know, they have usual weekly haunts, but seems whenever I go to where I expect them, some 1%er has hired them for a private event or it's at a Baron's game and you'd miss the whole game is you lined up for the truck. That, well, inconveniences me. Yes, it's all about me. If you can't find them or the line's too long, how can you take your kids/date/etc. to sample the delicious Melt sandwiches?!? Answer: Melt Restaurant. Hooray! Very tasty, naturally, and they can experiment with more options in the restaurant than they could in the truck for obvious reasons. Different breads, specialized mustard -- try their mustard! -- and you can sit down in air-conditioning in July in Birmingham. That may be one of the best reasons for preferring the restaurant. I like the Flyin' Hawaiian, which comes on a sort of pretzel roll instead of the standard bread as it does on the truck. Apply the mustard liberally. Terrific sandwich. Only downside to the restaurant was that the service was a bit slow. This may have been because it's much more complicated to run a restaurant than a food truck, and they are just getting warmed up. It may be because we got there just before dinner time, so they weren't quite ready. I don't know, but it was a bit slow. However, the food was certainly worth the wait. If service time improves next time, I'll add the fifth star. Highly recommended for all occasions.

I came in after a World Cup game so it got crowded very quickly. The staff was quick to get orders and and bus tables. The kitchen had our order out in ten minutes. The look has the modern industrial feel that seems to be popular now. They have outdoor seating with a screened in porch. Walking distance from Avondale Brewery so you have another option if you don't want to wait for Saws. I recommend the mushroom truffle sammich!

I am going to write this review without having gotten to eat at Melt and I will tell you why... If a person asks a server if they have Pinot Grigio and they say 'sure!' and proceed to sell you a $9 glass of sauvignon Blanc without batting an eye does not deserve my dime. News flash, Melt, people are not stupid and yes some of us do know the difference between Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc.

Really good Mac Melt! I added kalamata olives on mine and it was really good! We got fried pickles as an appetizer- had a kick to them but still very yummy! Only downside was the service being a little slow and my mother had to go get us a silverware from beside the drink machine.. but she still loves the place! (was not her first time, but was mine!)

Such an amazing restaurant. I love the food truck and now love that melt is near my new apartment! They're flying Hawaiian was amazing and my boyfriend loves the chicken salad melt. We both loved the fries. This is easily becoming a regular place for us! Greasy and delicious.

A quick pit stop on a road trip. The spouse got a nice wedge salad with red onion, tomatoes and bacon along with a side of Mac n cheese. I loved the queso that came with the home made potato chips. The chips were just OK. Nice local beers on tap

First time here will totally be back! I had the special Cubans sandwich which was served for the first time today. It was like pork heaven in your mouth. Would love to see that be a permanent menu item! We will be back. Great environment and super nice staff.

Being an age where service is still appreciated, it's hard for me to go places with the youthful indifference and distraction of today's younger waiters. Our waiter was dressed in old gym clothes and appeared to have worked out a few days in a row before coming to work. It's not limited to this place, but it was a distraction for me. During our order, the waiter saw what she thought was a stray dog and ran away from our table to get the dog, who came in the porch and proceeded to go wild to get back to its owners who had been walking a few feet behind. After the commotion, we got back to our order. My friend and I got our orders, and after we swapped the sandwiches (sides were correct, sandwiches were on the wrong plate), we did enjoy the food. Nicely done, good flavor. You might want to bring a prescription of Crestor along, cause this ain't no low calorie/low fat place! I'll come back.

LB and I were eager to check out Melt Avondale and picked a Wednesday night to do so. The joint was buzzing; the small parking lot was completely full but we found a spot on the street. There was a cozy screened-in porch but we elected to eat inside with the AC as our dinner companion. A chipper hostess led us to a two-top right by the entrance. Our waitress was nice though she took a while to pick up our methods of payment at the end. I got the burger which was perfect since I'd been craving a burger anyway. The only slightly negative aspect of the burger was that it was a bit drippy. The zingy mustard on the table could use a bit of thickener, but we became devoted followers of the rosemary ketchup. Anyway, $11 was slightly more than I would like to pay for a burger, but it was very delicious so I let that slide. The fruit salad that I elected to consume for my side was mostly melons with a couple of grapes and a piece of apple. A glass jar of complimentary candy on the tables won points with me, free dessert [there was some kind of banana stand dessert on the menu]. I've got a soft spot for sour straws. LB got the Classic Melt with add-ons of bacon and tomato. Gotta try that next time!

Yummy carbs! We had the Mac and Cheese (for our preschooler- she loved it), chicken salad melt, and buffalo chicken melt. All were fantastic. Side of chips were ok- but we would try something else next time. Will go back.

Over priced for what it is. I got the southern comfort which was mediocre. I also got the buffalo chicken salad which was iceberg lettuce. No frills yet pricey. Staff is for the most part unprofessional, a lot of cell phone activity. The place is not as clean as it should be. If you have time to tweet then you've got time to clean.

The grilled cheese sandwich is one of my favorite foods, and I think anyone who says otherwise is lying or just kidding. So I was naturally quite enthused when I heard there was a new restaurant that specialized in fancy grilled cheeses. The restaurant is located in what used to be a garage, or has been artfully designed to look like it is. Neither would really surprise me. Lots of exposed wood and pipes, concrete floors, etc. as well as two big garage doors on one wall. I went there on a Saturday at lunch, and it was packed but not to the point where there was nowhere to sit. It was loud but not too much so. I sat at the bar, which is right in front of the kitchen, and from what I could see the most popular sandwich appears to be the macaroni and cheese melt. Yes, that is a thing here. I couldn't bring myself to do it (maybe next time), so I just ordered the simple cheese melt with a side of coleslaw. It had lots of cheese (I believe there were three different kinds) and a good, chewy white bread. The coleslaw was not the best- I would definitely recommend another side. They also had an impressive cocktail menu, as well as several local beers on tap, including the Back 40 Truck Stop Honey Brown (which is surprisingly tasty with a grilled cheese). One complaint I have about their sandwiches was that they were a little dry. While I'm sure this isn't a problem with all of their offerings, I would like to see some sauces to go with the basic melts (a tomato jam or raspberry balsamic would be quite tasty, I think). But nonetheless, I think I'll be back.

Get yourself to Melt. If you hate cheese, this is not the place for you. It's named Melt for God's sake, and what melts better than savory, tasty CHEESE?!? I ordered some roast beef special, with a horseradish aioli and the coleslaw side. Verdict? Delicious. My boyfriend, ordered the chicken and waffles. It was topped with butter, strawberries, honey maple syrup, and more butter. We almost broke up, because I kept eating his dinner too. We're still together, no worries. We brought our little dog Ruby, and the staff was amazing and showered us with compliments about how cute our dog was. Obviously, we were big fans of that. They even had little dog bowls filled with water for everyone's dogs! Now, I'm not saying you should bring your dog- our dog is just awesome and well mannered. If your dog is also well behaved and sweet, then yes, game on. We had a lovely time, had the best service, and I can't wait to go back and eat more!

First of all, I love grilled cheese sandwiches-so I was so excited to try Melt. It did not disappoint. I went for lunch on a Saturday, and was seated right away. The server and hostess were both very friendly. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich, which was great. It has the perfect amount of heat. I often get nervous about sandwiches made w/chicken tenders-b/c they tend to fall everywhere once you start eating. But this was not a problem at all. I got the house-made chips for my side. They were good and crisp, but they could use a little more seasoning.

Ate here yesterday with my best friends for a belated birthday lunch. We had to wait, and felt pretty awkward just standing in the restaurant next to patrons trying to enjoy their meals since it was raining. A covered outdoor waiting area would have been nice, hence the 4 stars. But on to what everyone wants to know about: the food! It was fantastic. I got the Reuben but subbed the marble rye for sourdough as I am allergic to rye bread. I got the kettle chips as my side. Both were great. I'm pretty sure that's the best reuben I've ever had! One of my friends got the daily featured flatbread, which was a chicken Parmesan flatbread, and my other friend got the Mac melt, and added bacon. Everything was so good. The Mac melt was one of the best things I have ever tasted. I will definitely be going back, and next time I plan on trying one of their yummy sounding cocktails!

We've been here a few times. Most of the time, it's great (although you do have to wait awhile for takeout orders sometimes), but sometimes you can tell they're in a rush. Avoid noon on weekdays, and you should be fine. Buffalo chicken sandwich is delicious but a little greasy. Get fries, not chips. It's kind of pricey for what it is, but it's a fun lunch spot and there's no one doing what they're doing. I've not tried the pesto chicken, but my dining partner did and said it was tasty.

There are several doors and no clear focus on how to get in and find the hostess. We entered the screened in patio and were greeted by an employee holding menus who told is to go "up front" to find the hostess. We then are greeted by another employee holding menus by the open kitchen. Is this up front? Nope. We are told again to "go up front" to find the hostess. Argh! We finally get to the end of the building and there's just a door and no hostess. Stay? Leave? Retrace footsteps? I really want to like this place but I'm seriously hating it about now. It's a new place that's crazy busy but the staff is smiling, so that's a good sign. After about a 25 minute wait, we're seated. The server was totally delightful. Given the rush, the food came out quickly and was great. I had the Caesar Ghost sandwich which was quite good. Despite the promise of being "Vulcan hot", it was only mildly spicy which was a bit of a letdown 3 sandwiches with fries or chips and 3 drinks with tip set is back $44. A bit on the steep side but the space is attractive, service attentive and the food was good. Just so you know that I'm not a total idiot, we saw group after group repeat our "where's Waldo" experience of trying to find the hostess stand. The only negative for me is a southern thing. In the south, we serve lemon with iced tea. Hopefully they can find it in their hearts to buy a bag of citrus for the joint.

I was pleasantly surprised by Melt. It was nothing like I thought it would be. Sure, there is a lot of cheese on the menu, but that is not the whole story. The specialty cocktails are made with fresh ingredients. I had the Ginger Up which was fabulous but I saw a number of other drinks being made that looked equally good or better. We started with the heirloom tomato salad which was just as good as the Chris Hastings version - although admittedly it seemed to be a copycat recipe. I had a difficult time choosing which melt sandwich to order but decided on the Southern Tomato. I cant wait to come back and try another. Sit at the bar to see the open kitchen in action. Service was A+

Arrived for dinner around 8pm on a Tuesday. We were promptly seated by courteous staff. I ordered the Flaming Lips sandwich, and my husband ordered the Ragin' Cajun. Our food came out quickly, and was melted and delicious. We were both happy with our sandwiches (and fries), and felt like the price ($9-11 for sandwich and side) was fair for what we got. Overall, very good. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu items! PS: Don't miss out on the house-made condiments! Rosemary Ketchup & 41st Street Mustard are both fantastic.

My husband and I dined here for the second time last night. I love this place because they have gluten free bread and it's nice to be able to have a sandwich every now and then. The first time I had the flaming lips with a side of fruit and it was pretty tasty. I was craving that this particular night when we decided to go back. We spent some time trying to decide on an appetizer and eventually we just decided to get tomato soup. Once I ordered my food I was told they were out of gluten free bread. Of course I was disappointed but having worked in the service industry before, I understand these things happen. I ordered the chicken salad instead. I never got my tomato soup and unfortunately this is the second time this has happened with the same waiter. The first time I got my meal and told them I never received my soup so instead of getting it as an appetizer I got it with my meal. This time I figured it wasn't even worth complaining about since my food was already there I no longer wanted the soup as an appetizer. The chicken salad was very good and I loved the lemon poppyseed dressing. However, this place definitely needs to work on its service. It's quite slow and it's unfortunate this was the second time an item was obviously not ordered by the server. I don't like to complain but with it happening again it leaves a bad impression on the wait staff and the overall experience.

The entrées, local draft beer and dessert were top shelf. We even got great, humored service in spite of our rambunctious dinner party. Janga on the table and the "banana stand" dessert were fantastic. Even the covered porch was warm on an otherwise cold windy night. Great place guys!

Four stars for the food two stars for the service. My coworker and I tried this place for the first time today. The menu is small and of sandwiches and salads mostly. The sandwiches are unique, very tasty. I had the Ole' Smokey turkey sandwich with home made chips. Delicious. They have a rosemary ketchup that is so yummy I dipped my sandwich and chips in it. My coworker had the Buffalo chicken sandwich and fries, also very tasty. We decided that we would go back for lunch weekly until we try all of the sandwiches on the menu. I have got to have the macaroni n grilled cheese sandwich! We sat at the bar at first because there were no seats in the dinning area, a 20min wait. We ordered drinks, but after 15 minutes no one had taken out food order. We saw a booth was empty so we asked of we could move to it. We thought we would receive better service, we thought wrong. The service was slow and the waitress seemed overwhelmed, they were quite busy but need a bit more training on customer service.

Melt has an awesome assortment of gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches. The only thing is they're a little overpriced. Went on a Friday and got the buffalo chicken grilled cheese and a pint of TrimTab and it cost $18. Everything had great flavor, and it was cute how there are board games you can play while waiting for your food. Good atmosphere and good experience overall. Just a little overpriced in my opinion.

This is a good place to eat, especially because of the constant melee at the other Avondale places. I have been twice. The food is not art or anything. But it is good, crispy over-buttered grilled sandwiches. They do some things to give extra flavor. As always, I'd like to see an emphasis on the quality of the meat--the supplier, the cook of it, etc. That'd push me over the edge to a 4-5 star review. They serve what they advertise, and the atmosphere is pleasant. I've enjoyed the servers both trips.

Calling all grilled cheese lovers!!! What a cool concept. I wish Miami had something like this! Grilled cheese has never seen so many personalities :) comfort food at its finest. Great atmosphere and cool, casual vibe. Worth the visit and the wait (we waited 15 mins). Check the hours of operation. They close between lunch and dinner. Be cheesy!!!

First I will start by saying that this review is more based on the employees at melt and not on the food. My family and I drove to Avondale to try melt because we had read about it and are all grilled cheese fans! It took us a moment to find, mainly because we went in the direction of saws. We arrived at 5:40 on Thursday night. We walked into a great looking restaurant. The decor was modern and it looked clean and welcoming (as it should considering it just opened). We were greeted by a server and took our seats at the table we were sat. My husband and I looked over the menu for about five minutes, and then we looked at each other wondering why neither of us had drinks or had even been greeted for that matter. The server who sat us was standing tat a nearby table chatting with what looked like a regular patron. There were two other servers literally four feet from us standing at the computer just having a good time. What makes this scenario even worse is that the MANAGER was standing there with them. Needless to say, we were never greeted and we decided to take our business down the block to Saw's, which we love! The employees even noticed us leaving and did not say a word! If you expect to thrive as a new restaurant maybe you should be more attentive to first time customers. At least take our drink order.

We arrived @4pm this Saturday. Bar open, restaurant not until 5pm. We were welcomed to have a drink while we waited for evening food service to begin. My friend chose white wine Sangria, I the red. Both fabulous. By 5:15 we were glad we sat at a table right after we were served at the bar. Even though the large screened outside area was also open at 4pm, there were people waiting for a table by 5:15. seating appeared to be fairly fast, though, accumulate though they did. We were impressed by the multigenerational and eclectic clientele. Grandparents with grand babies, college students, same-sexers, 30-somethings, first-daters, hipsters, we could see how anyone could feel comfortable at MELT. Servers pleasant, efficient, accommodating. Courtney made us feel as though we were her only table, which we definitely weren't! Architecture & interior design: funky, unique. Food: we shared the tempura-fried vegetables with chili glaze (fabulous) because they ran out of the Matilda rolls at lunch (favorited by the first reviewer). My friend ordered the grilled cheese, I had the Buffalo chicken grilled cheese. Both with homemade potato chips, both great. The Buffalo chicken has a kick which was tolerable even to my usually sensitive-to-pepper tongue. Possibly it was the assist by the mozzarella. Price: $22 each, which included the sangria. Side benefit: half a block from wonderfully restored Avondale Park, children on swings, ducks waddling about, and the free jazz concert at the excellent Amphitheater with it's perfect sound. Return? Mos def

As a kid I always loved grilled cheese. They have taken that idea and ran with it. I haven't had a bad meal yet. The Mac-n-cheese grilled cheese is phenomenal especially with the tomato basil soup to dip it in. The Monte Cristo was refreshing to see on the menu and the service was friendly and prompt.

I took my daughter on a Friday night. The place was busy but we were seated in 10 minutes. I had the Reuben sandwich with Greek pasta salad. It was really good and reasonably priced. My daughter had the Buffalo chicken sandwich with fries. It was also good. My favorite was the fried Oreos for dessert. I will recommend Melt to all of my friends.

Finally made it to the brick and mortar. Luck for us our wait to visit was worth it. See I enjoy eating at new places but I do not enjoy the packed hyped up environment. Sotonifht was perfect for us. The atmosphere is sleek and modern however very comfortable. We particularly liked the canoe light nice touch. Our server Seama was very easy going knowledgeable and nice. She started us off with water and let us know when she came back we'd talk apps and drinks. The drink menu has many delicious cocktails on it I went with the rose garden and it was a very balanced and delightful drink. My boyfriend went with the Avondale Spring Street Saison. We ordered the Mac and cheese bites they were yummy and crispy. Now on to the main course. Insert another drink served kindly by Ms. Seama..... I had the Blk and Bleu because I am a Blk and Bleu whore for some reason if that's on the menu it's what I get love me some steak and Bleu cheese put it between my favorite bread (sourdough, duh NorCal girl;) and it's oh soooo good. My boyfriend had the flying Hawaiian and in his words this is some of the best pretzel bread I have ever had and he really enjoyed the sandwich. Overall this is a very good flip from truck to shop and the quality has not been spared. Thanks for melt in my mouth yum!

We came here at 9pm on a Friday after driving by Post Office Pies which was too crowded and there's never anywhere to park. We were pleasantly surprised that Melt was open and had convenient parking. There were a good amount of people eating and drinking and we were seated right away. Our waiter was a very easy-going and a huge Star Trek fan though he said he's never dressed up. The food was solid and came out quickly. The meatloaf sandwich was the star of our meal. The bread on the sandwiches are butter to death ie. delicious. Make sure you order fries so you can use the rosemary ketchup on the table. If you order the fruit as your side, the portion size is underwhelming. Overall my group of three was very satisfied with our late night dinner.

My enthusiasm for fancy grilled cheeses can only go so far... But, really, there's plenty of like about Melt. Aside from grabbing a pizza you couldn't find a more utilitarian food outing -- kids, adults, and picky eaters can all dine happy in a beautifully renovated space and very nice staff. On your own? No worries: Belly up to the bar, enjoy a local craft brew, and choose (or create) a sandwich worthy of your buzz -- a grilled cheese with ham, pineapple, and jalapeños perhaps? Patio seating is also available -- always a plus. It's gooey goodness that knows no bounds.
