1st to review--that's surprising since Full Moon BBQ has been a long time staple in Hoover. The Mr. has continuously raved about the BBQ and bakers here for years now. Back in town for a visit and after a particularly nasty fight, I decided to drown my anger in starch. Bc that's always a good idea. Full moon not only has monstrous baked potatoes, they are enormously proud of them. My usual anywhere is a broccoli baker--you gotta squeeze your veggies in somehow. The baker is of course slathered with an amount of butter that Paula Deen would be jealous of. It's is also topped with sour cream, scallions & cheddar cheese. If you're watching your figure, well, you wouldn't be here in the 1st place. They steam the broccoli when you order, so no worries about chewiness. As if the 3lb of starch wasn't enough, I also got a side of fried okra bc you HAVE TO HAVE fried okra all the time. Full moon also fries them per order and they are perfection--good crust to okra ratio and perfectly salty enough. The service is quick. The key like pie is delicious. Full moon isn't somewhere I would say you should eat everyday, but if you're trying to eat your problems, this is the place to do it.

The employee working in the drive thru didn't really acknowledge me and acted as though there was something more important for her to tend to elsewhere. My order (chicken baker) had two bones in the meat. No eating utensils were supplied.

Eh not my cup of tea. The French fries are good, not really feeling the BBQ sauce or meat. It just wasn't satisfying :/

The pork platter was absolutely excellent -- tender (with some roasted bits) -- true pork bliss on a plate. A quibble: the beautiful pork was drowned by quite a bit of a very good bbq sauce (next time I will request that the sauce be on the side -- pity to drown such wonderful meat). Sides of excellent black eyed peas and very good collards. The accompanying chow chow was awesome -- sweet and tangy (I picked up a jar for $5 on the way out). Lunch companions were very pleased with their ribs and meat platters.

This is excellent BBQ. From pulled pork to chicken to sausage, they have great quality meat with excellent flavor. Arguably the best baked potatoes in Birmingham. They are HUGE and if you order them with pulled pork or chicken you won't be disappointed.

Full Moon's all right. I always forget about it but eat here about once every two years. The barbecue doesn't knock your socks off but it's not offensive either. I was strongly advised to request no chow-chow on my pork sandwich which is definitely the way to go. Thanks, LB. I'll admit I did go last time since I wanted to try the half moon cookies which are on the "100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die" list. I ate one cookie and it was pretty good so I bought another one which was a bit drier and not as good. Hmm.

We ordered the Whole Slab of Classic Ribs from the "Value Meals To Go!" menu. A full slab of pork ribs, sauce, two pint sides, bread, and cookies for 30.99. The ribs were ok. They were full sized spare ribs with a seasoning rub. The ribs are grilled/smoked on the pit that you can see from the counter when you place your order. Our ribs were heavily charred, and the smaller ribs were quite over cooked. The sauce was good, sweet and tangy, but not too tangy. The fresh white bread slices were soft and fresh, and did a great job of soaking up the sauce. For our sides we chose the baked beans and collard greens. The beans were good, not too sweet, and small smokey peices of pork were used for seasoning. I thought the collard green were very good. They were cooked just right and had a good flavor. I did not need any vinegar-pepper sauce to enhance. We also ordered a side of the chow-chow, and we thought it was very good. Chow-chow is a spicy relish and boy was it spicy. Very unique, and I would recommend everyone try it. The half moon cookies were pretty good. Pecans and chocolate chip cookie dipped in chocolate. The restauraunt was crowded and we did have to wait about 20 minutes for our order. They did a good job of packing everything to-go. I would recommend calling ahead if you are ordering a to-go. Overall I thought it was a good meal and a good value.

Great Q with sides that will keep you coming back for more! Sure, its Alabama and BBQ is a staple, but consistency is key! I have an uncle that comes in from Utah a few times a year and each time, we have to make a trip to Full Moon. Keep up the good work! P.S. dont forget to check out the desserts!!!

Good chopped pork. Excellent ribs cooked similar to Dreamland in Tuscaloosa. Turkey and brisket passable. A little overpriced. Service mediocre. Solid all around food though.

As a native Alabamian and having lived in the south all my life I've become, like most in Dixie, a fan of BBQ. Primarily pork and this review will cover that but what separates Full Moon from every other BBQ joint in Birmingham is their Beef Brisket Sandwich. Best I've ever had. And this seems almost sacrilegious to utter, but I do believe it's the best BBQ sandwich period I've ever had. Absolutely fantastic. Full moons regular sauce is too sweet for me but wow does it fit the Beef Brisket. Cannot recommend this choice enough. As I mentioned the regular sauce is pretty sweet but using chow chow, which is a default choice so make sure you ask to leave off if you don't like it, is a perfect compliment and mitigates the sweetness. Portions, like every place these days, is copious. I've also heard good things about the turkey but honestly, since I've tried the brisket I'm not sure I'll ever try anything else again. With that said, the chopped port and ribs are all very good. Clean and with a courteous staff Full Moon is about as good as you'll find in a chain BBQ joint. And if you didn't get it before, GET THE BEEF BRISKET! :)

Minimal wait to order at lunchtime. I ordered the smoked turkey salad. Special request was just romaine lettuce instead of mixed greens. Food arrived promptly as requested and was quite good. A little more expensive than I like for lunch.

Our visit was okay at best. I felt like I needed to review because we went here based on the reviews of fellow yelpers. Some had recommended the collards and BBQ brisket. The collards were flavorless. It tasted like they were boiled in water and served. They had no seasoning, nothing to amp them up. As for the brisket, we found it to be dry! It looked appealing on the sandwich, but when we took our first bite, it was overcooked and just lacking that delicious juiciness that good brisket must have. We also ordered the cookies, and they were nothing special. They were hard and crunchy. All in all I'm sure maybe some of the other items on their menu are decent, I just wasn't impressed with our selections, especially considering they were supposed to be wonderful!
