What an amazing experience we had at Bongiorno! My husband and I wanted authentic Italian food for our 1 year anniversary and gave bongiorno a chance. I couldn't be any happier with the service and how delicious the food was! I had ordered the nut crusted snapper with the peach chutney sauce and I can't begin to explain how amazing my dinner was! My husband ordered the lobster ravioli, which I managed to steal a bite, and to no surprise, my taste buds were having a party of their own! Our waitress was friendly and very professional! We mentioned to her how everything was perfect and how the experience at bongiorno made our 1 year anniversary memorable! She was thrilled to know we were celebrating our 1 year and asked if we needed anything else. I was planning on eating a dessert, but we were stuffed from our entrees so we kindly asked for our check. Just minutes later, we see a gentleman walk over to our table, introduced himself as chef ozzie and congratulated us celebrating our 1 year! We thanked him for preparing us our meals! He waved over our waitress and she brings us a delicious canoli on the house for our anniversary! We felt so special and the canoli was amazing! We thank bongiorno and the amazing staff for a great experience!

Fair is fair. After an 18-month hiatus, we returned to Bongiorno. Improved food and WAY improved service. Our server was terrific.

Love the atmosphere and the staff! I was let down with what we ordered. The bread taste like a hotdog bun & please change your dipping sauce to just a plain extra virgin olive oil. The cheese ravioli was so bland, tasted like hunts tomato sauce right out of the can, no cheese or anything on it. Same with the lasagna, very plain and no flavor. I will give them another shot but overpriced and small portions.

My husband and I recently ate dinner at Bongiorno's. We normally order pizza to go, but decided to sit down and eat for a change. We ordered the Pasta alla Campagnola and it was delicious! I ordered it based on seeing the customers next to us eating it. I couldn't believe they were eating their entire orders, but I did the same it was so good. We have always been very happy with our weekly pizzas to go and I really think it is the best traditional pizza in Birmingham - the crust is great, there is not too much tomato sauce and it is loaded with sausage and veggies. We are in the process of moving out of state and I am really going to miss Bongiorno's and their friendly staff.

This place is easy to pass by and not notice but they have a very large selection and for extremely cheap compared to some Italian places. The food here is all fairly good but the bread they give you when you sit down is really bad. This is also the same bread they used for garlic cheese bread. Over all great little Italian place for its price point.

Definitely a great place to dine in, which we have a few times. Small dining room but the times we have gone have not been so crowded, so that's ok. The service is always excellent and the family that owns it goes the extra mile to make you feel welcome. We are partial to family owned, local businesses and this is one of the best. I'm writing this review today, because we had the opportunity to introduce some friends to their pizza last night. It was wonderful (as usual) and I know they will have some new patrons! When you say extra-large - that is what you get (not like some other places I could name). It's a little pricey, and there's no delivery service - but if you are in the area, the trip is worth it. We got sausage and onion, and asked for extra crispy. Yum!!

Bongiorno is a small, family owned and operated, Sicilian style restaurant. The food is outstanding. Everything on the menu is great. They have all of the favorites that you find in a good Italian rest, but I usually order a fish entree with one of their many house preparations. Fish is delivered fresh daily and its some of the best that you will have anywhere. The service is very good and the staff are all very experienced and have been at the place for a long time. They also have a great wine list as well as many different bottled beers. Call ahead and make a rez on the wekends. This is a great place for anything from a casual lunch, normal weeknight dinner or a special occasion.

A locally owned Italian restaurant. Friendly service from servers who have worked there for years. The owner and his wife are from Sicily. The entire family works there and takes an interest in the food and service. Kid friendly (I have 3 ) despite the neighborhood which can seem a bit toney. Really good pizza.

On Saturday, August 27, 2011, my boyfriend and I visited Bongiorno for the first time because we purchased a BirminghamMenus.com coupon. We have used BirminghamMenus.com coupons at least 20 times in the past to numerous restaurants. During this visit to this particular restaurant we were shocked to find out that our coupon was not valid toward daily specials. We find that to be a very poor policy on the restaurant's part. When you visit a nice restaurant you want to try their specials. I tried a seafood special because of a favorable review on Yelp. When we were not able to apply our coupon toward the purchase of our meal because we did not meet the $35 spending limit (due to the fact one of our entrees was a "daily special") we were extremely disappointed. No other restaurant in our experience utilizing BirminghamMenus.com coupons has excluded daily specials.

I had a horrible experience at Bongiorno. I went in without the rest of my party to check on table availability. They said they were fine with seating us. I got everyone inside and they changed their minds. Just the opposite of a friendly attitude from them. They did not offer a wait time. They said, "We have nothing!" We walked out and walked down the street to another restaurant who seated us with a friendly attitude and a wonderful meal. This is after a meal at Bongiorno a few months ago. Every other line out of the waitress was about a waitress just quitting on them. She was nice but needed help. Other workers were around but she seemed to be the only wait staff for the entire area. The food that time was wonderful. We noticed this time they once again had a help wanted sign on the door. People might stick around if some attitude changes are made. I wish the service was as good as the food. Service 1/10, Food 10/10 when we are able to get it.

The reason why this place gets an unfair 5-star rating is because they address the underlying need for toppings that has been lost in other fancy pizzas. Make every flavor count. While we have grown up in a culture where we expect pizza to be one color, the pizza that is made here looks like something you'd find at a salad bar. The pizza is fresh, healthy, and probably the most visually delightful I have seen. I couldn't decide which pizza I liked more than the other since I can go on for days about how fresh this was. The 12" Shrimp Pizza consists of pesto, Italian goat cheese and sun dried tomato. The goat cheese toppings come as blocks. The sun dried tomato is bright red. The pesto is rich and green. They don't go cheap on the shrimp either. Every single topping in here is utilized to the full. I can taste every individual ingredient and not one overpowers the others. The 12" Chicken Pizza consisted of roasted red peppers, artichoke and basil. This literally looks like a thin layer of salad on a giant inflated tortilla. There's so much color you wondered if you had even ordered pizza. The chicken is grilled and full of flavor. The basil pulls everything together and makes this pizza shine. The restaurant itself is nice enough that you can dress respectfully casual. It's definitely a family-run restaurant. When I asked for a to-go menu, they said they had ran out. Refrigerator Test: All I can taste is pesto!

Love the ham and cheese calzone here (big enough for 2 meals for me) and I also really enjoy their specials. Ate here for New Year's Eve and the dishes were perfectly proportioned. My husband really likes the snapper.

Been twice. Both times had unpleasant meals. Service is horrible. The food is just plain and nowhere near authentic. When I complained about the taste, texture, and quality of the Carbonara, the solution offered by the server was that I "should have read the menu better." The only thing I liked about it is the bread. Prices are too high for what you get. Money is better spent going to Olive Garden. I won't be going back for a third try.

Disclaimer- I'm from New York, where there's a multitude of good Italian places, so I have high standards. Regardless of standards, however, my meal was terrible! The garlic bread -an item that should not be dry- was dry. I ate there with a family member, and she ordered baked ziti. Her meal was over-cooked and very watery. How do you make baked ziti watery? I ordered ravioli with marinara sauce, and my sauce was watery, too! The cheese inside the ravioli was bland. I would only recommend this place to my worst enemy. I'm never eating here again.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
