Excellent Italian food, great service and top notch tiramisu! Nice ambiance, a little dark, but nice! Homemade meatballs were great with their marinara sauce. Very friendly wait staff, felt like everyone truly cared about the quality of our dinner. Very nice wine choices.

Amore is the best value for MY money in Birmingham for good Italian food with a nice quite calm atmosphere. Celebrating a Birthday four of us had a variety of good food and drink. We started of with bottle of Prosecco champagne. We got the last bottle they had. We then ordered the escargot for sharing and found that it was prepared unlike I have ever had. The escargot was served in a dark rich red stock with really good bread that was very good. We then all had a house salad with mixes greens. All was very fresh with tasty homemade Italian dressing. I then split the special "Frutti Di Mare" with another that was wonderful. Lots of seafood over pasta. I will return. Tip; Plan ahead and mark reservations!

This place was awesome!! It is set up like a restaurant in Italy!! I brought my husband here for his 40th bday and we both enjoyed it! I had the lobster ravioli and he had chicken Parmesan they both were superb full of flavor will definitely be back! This place is excellent for date night with your special one.

David and I finally returned to Amore and were surprised to learn they have new owners! Food continues to be delicious and definitely did not have an experience like our last one. I had a nice chat with the new owner, Dino, earlier in the day, and he also introduced himself during our meal. The waiters were very attentive and better managed with the crowd that they had this Saturday. I must admit, I missed the two gentleman we so enjoyed as our waiters a few times before. I'm guessing they may have been the previous owners? It's a shame, I really enjoyed them. BUT, we're really there for the food!! Rolls were piping hot, YUM--and love the unique parmesan and spice on top. David would have liked to have had some olive oil to dip the bread into, but it's never been offered. We branched out with our entrees and tried the Shrimp Amore and the Fruti di Mare. Both were very tasty, but I've never had success with eating red sauce and not getting it all over me! It was worth every spot that landed on my nice blouse, especially since my stain removal stick took care of it! I was really glad that they keep the lighting very dim...otherwise, the whole restaurant would've seen how messy I was! We'll be back Amore, thanks Dino and Angela for taking over and keeping this treat open in Birmingham!

Spent the evening at Amore for a Christmas dinner with friends. From the time, we walked into the warm and romantic atmosphere, through the entree and desert our time there was wonderful. The food was delicious. I chose the Bone In Filet, which was cooked perfectly. We all tried something different, and each dish was spot on. The wine selection was as robust as the food on the menu. We all felt like we had traveled to a home in Italy where the host took special care of us. Dino and Angela made us feel like they had known us all their lives. Amore is an excellent place for a romantic dinner with your wife or a cozy environment for a party. Thank you for making our night a special one.

Believe everything you read about this place. The ultimate in Italian dining. We live in Nashville, and weredriving through Birmingham. Pulled up trusty Yelp, and this was at the top of the list. From the pillowy soft rolls to the velvety creme' brulee, each and every item was delicious. You could taste and see the love in every dish. Literally, it is hard to stop eating, each bite is so heavenly. Dinner started with free bruschetta to cleanse the palate. The topping was bright and tasty. This was folllowed by rolls and salad. We got calamari as an app. It came out steaming hot, on a bed of basil leaves. Scrumptious. The house dressing was a little heavy on the vinegar side, but ingredients were fresh and crunchy, and it was just the right size . We got three dinners, shrimp scampi...housemade ravioli in marinara...veal amore'....could not pick a favorite. Ravioli was homemade, shrimp were colossal, and the veal melted in your mouth. We are lovers of Italian food, and this was hands down, the best we ever had. Portions were large. You could easily share an entree, or plan on taking home leftovers. We ordered dessert: creme brulee and Italian cream cake. Creme brulee was my personal fav. Husband and wife own it. She is front of the house n super friendly, he is back of the house and cooks divinely. Tip: make reservations. The place is tiny and fills up fast.

I wanted to carry Jackie out to a restaurant That was not on our normal restaurant circuit. Searched and found this place, read the reviews and it looked perfect and it was. I had the shrimp and scampi special. It was toped with crab meat and on a bed of angle hair pasta. It was cooked to perfection and the light crust added the perfect texture. Jackie had the grouper and loved it also. The service was professional and very helpful. I was very pleased with the overall experience.

Such a charming dark quiet place for a Tete a Tete. The food is fresh. It is generous and Very well prepared. YET, for some strange reason..... The chef chooses commercial vegetable oils to save a few $. The same dishes prepared with first pressed olive oil and butter $$ would put them in the big league. Perhaps their pallet is weak. It makes me think the chef /owners are not really Italian. The vintage canned standard music is authentic Dino and the prices are $$$ . So what"s problem? The food tastes commercial.; just like the canola oil. And for $$$ and for one dz tables why not redo out of date cheap decor?

  • Alicia P.

Atmosphere was fantastic! Very romantic and loved the music selection playing. The restaurant only seats like 30 people, which was nice because it wasn't crazy loud like other places - and we could actually hear each other without having to scream over all the background noise. Perfect date night location. The food was delicious and came out fairly quickly. I ordered the Chicken Penne Vodka based on other reviews I had seen prior, and it didn't disappoint. My husband ordered one of their specials and the crab cakes which he literally moaned over. LOL We had tiramisu for dessert and it was a perfect end to a perfect dinner. My husband and I are planning to go back for our next date night.

My wife and I went here for dinner and were surprised to find new owners. Dino and Angela were simply amazing with their attentiveness to every detail. Their philosophy is to not only serve you a incredible meal but to also provide a dining experience second to none. Once seated a bruschetta was placed in the table as a starter. I ordered the oysters Rockefeller and they were amazing. The highlight was my wife's crab cake appetizer. I would say these were 90% lump crabmeat and they were the bomb. Best I have tasted in years. The main course is served with a very nice salad with a home made dressing that makes you want to use your rolls to mop up the plate. My wife ordered the pork chop special that was so flavorful and huge that she could not finish it. When we brought the leftovers home, you would think you were watching shark week in our kitchen as the kids and then the dog devoured every bite. I ordered the 10oz filet special which was served over a nice creamy risotto. Unlike my wife, I ate every bite. For dessert I highly recommend the bread pudding or tiramisu. My favorite was the light and favorable tiramisu that makes you want more. All and all a wonderful experience and we will be back for more. So many wonderful choices that you can't really go wrong.

Small quaint, romantic restaurant, holding only 30 people. It is owned by a husband/wife team, Angela & Dino. Though this was our first visit Angela really made us feel at home, coming to talk to us several times during the evening. We started with the meatball appetizer and was hands down by our favorite item of the night. I had the Shrimp Amore and loved it. My husband had the Grouper Pescatore and enjoyed it also. For dessert we had the bread pudding, which was topped with a raspberry sauce. My only recommendation for the entire experience would have been for the raspberry sauce to have been drizzled on the plate, instead on top of the bread pudding. This is just my preference though. Otherwise, everything was excellent. Easily Amore is the most authentic Italian food in Birmingham. We absolutely loved it!

I went to the restaurant on the recommendation of a friend. Get a reservation because it is a small place.Everything we had was as good or better than anything I've had at Botega and once I was inside it reminded me of an Italian restaurant in Boston's North End. What really made it great was how the husband and wife team of owners made us feel after an unfortunate accident. A lady at the next table bumped into our table and knocked a glass of wine on my fiance. The owner was more than gracious. She gave my fiance a sweater she had bought that very day for her to wear while she soaked the shirt she had been wearing to keep it from staining. She told her she could keep the sweater if she wanted, but obviously we couldn't do that. Our meal was comped and they didn't even want us to leave a tip. Something I couldn't do. I will definitely be going back and will tell everyone who will listen about this great mom and pop Italian restaurant with extraordinary customer service!

Best Italian food in the grey stone area. The place is very small, maybe 12 tables at most but that's not a bad thing, as service here is fast and friendly which IMO is more important than the food. The food came out quick too and was excellent! The only thing that kind of annoyed me was the glass covered wall in the back. Not really necessary but maybe it helps with the lighting in some strange way?. This place is kept dimly lit for romantic purposes I suppose but it was nice and relaxing. Other Italian places to check out would be Bongionos in mountain brook and Bellinis on valleydale rd. IMO, Bongionos is good food but its slow, and Bellinis is good too but the brick walls make it very loud on busy nights.

I love trying out local mom and pop restaurants. I support local business and love the culinary offerings of the local area. I have hardly been disappointed UNTIL NOW. There are so many good reviews for this restaurant, BUT they are all from a certain demographic. The food is good (not great, but good). The service is horrible. I know this is Alabama and people are still very opinionated about anyone who does not look like them, but it is sad to see this kind of discrimination during this day and age. During my dining experience, I had to wait 17 min to order. The bread basket was thrown on my table by a waitress who was on her way to another table. No one ever came and asked me if everything was okay, no refill on water, I had to ask for it after the waiter ignored me a couple of times. Anyway, I am gonna take the higher road and pray for these ignorant people. If you are visiting this area, do yourself a favor and go to the chain restaurant. It hurts me to say this but I can not stand bad service. The whole experience is ruined when you are not given good service. I could have easily done a "to-go" and eaten in the comfort of my hotel. If you are a restaurant, treat everyone equally. I will look into contacting BBB regarding this business.

A group of us have been in Birmingham on business and we found this restaurant nearby through Yelp - good reviews, so we decided to check it out. We have now been there twice, and each time the food was absolutely phenomenal. It is owned and managed by a husband/wife team - Dino (the chef) and his wife Angela. It is a small place with LOTS of ambience. When you walk in the door you immediately know you are in an Italian restaurant - the smell of fine food, and the soft, tasteful, Italian music in the background. The wine list has good variety and they definitely have some quality wines, of good value. The veal piccata is awesome, as was every other plate we ordered. Angela is extremely personable - genuinely interested in her customers. We were in a group on business, and we had a great dinner as a group of colleagues, but this would be the perfect place for an intimate evening for two. You won't be disappointed!

This place is the bomb!!! Our server Kristen could not have been more fun and helpful. The owner Lorenzo , is a great guy that also acts as the sommelier. They have a fantastic wine list with reasonable prices. Lorenzo's philosophy is " to serve great food at a good price" and he comes through 100%. Great place!!!

The food was awesome. Every dish from the appetizers to the dessert were professionally prepared. The flavor of each dish is unique. Attention to every detail from how the food is seasoned to the presentation is apparent. Every detail of the dining experience is the staffs primary focus. The food here is truly amazing.

I never take the time to review a restaurant, but I am making an exception in this situation! We had a great experience at Amore and highly recommend it to anyone. The food, atmosphere, and service are excellent. Great quality and not overpriced, best dining experience we've had in awhile.

Very good food and wonderful atmosphere. My wonderful girlfriend and I decided to get out of Montgomery to try something new. We are glad we found this place on here. Very intimate setting with seating for only 24 people. Big parties probably wouldn't work unless you make a reservation far in advance. The wine selection is phenomenal and the staff is very knowledgable if your indecisive. The portions a large and will allow you to have leftovers. We already decided to come back as soon as time will allow us to. Well worth the drive!

This place is ok but not outstanding like the average review implies. My co-workers and I went here for dinner after work. The ambiance and the service was good but the food wasn't anything exceptional. I ordered the caprese and a seafood marinara dish. The mozzarella didn't taste homemade or have that chewiness I prefer. The marinara was very bland and too acidic. Also, having biscuit type bread seemed weird to me...not very authentic. When I have Italian, I want the traditional rustic bread and oil, not a garlic biscuit. Anyway, it was good for the area, but I doubt I'll go here again.

Absolutely the best Italian restaurant in Birmingham. Small, private, personal service, and excellent food. Calamari, which is usually overdone elsewhere, is always perfect here. I like mine Fra D'Avilo (probably just butchered the spelling). I love to take my wife here for a date. This place makes you feel special, and I cannot complement the food enough.

We are regular customers and brought new prominent friends. The waiter tonight was disinterested , rude and we felt as though we needed to make excuses for him. It won't happen again because we will go elsewhere

I only wish I lived near this place and if I did it would be my go to place - period. Food was outstanding, service more on the slow side for those that are timekeepers but no problem for me. Atmosphere leaned toward romantic hence it's namesake. Prices were very reasonable. Thing to note- this is a very small place (15 small tables tops) in a strip mall type location. They take their reservations very seriously because of this. If you are late, they will try to call you and if you don't answer, guess what happens. They have an excellent wine selection. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone and I will remember this place if I pass through here again.

I must start with saying that this was one of the best dinners we have had in a restaurant in a very long time! We describe the atmosphere as one where if Tony Soprano owned a restaurant, this would be it! Very Italian, romantic, and cozy. When we arrived for our 7:30 reservation, we were a few minutes early. We were offered a cocktail while we waited. Upon being seated, we noticed there were at least 14 other people sat at the same time. This worried me that we would have a long wait on our food but no such thing!! We never even noticed a difference! One diner had lasagna and called it superb! My wife had lobster and shrimp scampi over linguine and it was incredible. I had Grouper and it. Was one of the best fish dishes I have ever had. Lorenzo takes real pride in his restaurant and it shows. I recommend this to anyone.

Small?...yes. Please seats about 38 people so get there early or have a reservation. Great service?...yes. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Great food?...yes. My wife and I had a nice selection of items for dinner and each left me wanting more even though the portions were large. Reasonable pricing?...yes. $10-$25 per entree. Would I go back?...as soon as I'm back in that area.

Phenomenal. First, the bread and salad are just really really good. My date had shrimp amore which was delicious, and I had sausage cacciatore which was also splendid, plus the tiramisu for dessert. Just delightful. It is a very small restaurant so reservations are a must. Our waitress was wonderful and so was the atmosphere. This place is just flat out good.

Amore is the only true Italian restaurant that I have found outside New York or Chicago. The sauces are to die for! They have the best eggplant parmigiana and chicken parmigiana that I have ever tasted. They also do a nice job with fish.

My boyfriend took me to dinner here before I left for a 2 month vacation. Our friends recommended it. It is very small, cozy, and comfortable atmosphere. It is in what we call the "double decker" strip mall on the right of 280 as you drive east up Double Oak Mountain. It was on a Thursday night but our friends suggested we make reservations. Good thing we did and we saw why when we were seated. There are maybe 12 tables and all of them were seated. The lights are dim and candle-lit. Our server was amazing, very knowledgeable about Italian food, the menu, and wine pairings. We ordered a Franciscan Chardonnay and it was divine! We ordered the special appetizer and we both ordered specials for dinner. His was a veal and mine was grouper, scallops, mussels, clams, and shrimp pasta with probably the best marinara I have ever had. Fresh fresh fresh! And for dessert we shared delicious Tiramisu and Brian had a cappuccino. SO amazing.

Fantastic place for a romantic evening with good food and wine! The owner is always there to ensure the highest quality of food and the best service. My wife and I found this place when we first moved to the area and have been going almost every month. We even had our rehearsal dinner there. It is hard to say what the best dish would be....they are all good! My favorite is Chicken Porcini. The meatball appetizer is also delicious. Friends have also really enjoyed the homemade red sauce. If you have not tried this place out, you must go, it will soon be your favorite!

My husband brought me to Amore for my birthday last night. It was absolutely incredible!! Despite being in a strip mall, the inside of the restaurant has a lot of character. I imagine this is what eateries in small Italian villages must feel like. It is perfect for a romantic night out or as a place to catch up with a small group of friends. As for the food, I don't even know if words can do it justice! We started with the meatball appetizer. Never before have I had meatballs that simply melted in my mouth. They were the most tender and flavorful meatballs I have ever had. And I say this having been married for the past 16 years to a guy whose mother is an Italian from Brooklyn. She can cook some mean meatballs! For the main course, my husband chose one of the night's fish specials, and I selected the Frutti di Mare. I am allergic to crab and shrimp, so though I could not sample his dish, it looked and smelled divine. By the look on my husband's face, I presume it tasted even better. My entree was quite literally swimming with beautiful scallops, calamari, mussels, and clams all tossed in a marinara sauce over linguini. They were even nice enough to accomodate my allergy and leave the shrimp out. The dish was simply amazing! We somehow managed to make room for dessert (the portions are quite filling!) and opted for espresso and their homemade tiramisu. This proved to be the perfect end to a wonderful evening! I cannot wait to go back!

We made reservations for 5:30 on a Saturday night based on the excellent Yelp reviews. This restaurant is located in a two story shopping/office building. The exterior is not impressive. However, you are transported to another country when you walk through the door. This tiny restaurant is perfectly and immaculately decorated. It is one of the most romantic restaurants I've ever visited. It took me back to Italy. First, we received a complimentary serving of bruschetta, followed by some very good hot bread. I ordered Shrimp Amore, which was a creamy shrimp dish served over pasta. My companion ordered veal. Entrees include a delicious salad and pasta. Neither of us were blown away by our entrees, but the food was fresh and very good. I would have liked a little more garlic and maybe some basil in my dish, but that is just my personal opinion. Because of the pristine atmosphere, service and quality of food, I have to give the restaurant 5 stars. The employees and owner put a lot of love into their work. Definitely make reservations. There was only one other couple at 5:30, but by the time we were through with dinner, the restaurant was completely full.

Reservations: the place seats less than 30 so get reservations. Several parties were turned away that showed up without calling ahead. Ambience: very low light with candle light. Tables are a little close but situated so that you don't feel like your privacy is violated. Except for the the hog a few tables away that proceeded to blow the lining from her sinuses after she finished dinner. I mean really, go to the restroom. Unbelievable. A single waiter along with a helper serviced the dining room without missing a beat. Excellent service. Bruschetta was brought out as soon as we sat down followed by some of the best bread I've had. Salads were presented on ice cold plates. Entrees (veal saltimbocca and chicken parm) were very good. We split the teramisu. More than enough for two. It was a little runny but tasted really good. With two glasses of wine and tip the bill was less than $80. We can't wait to go back.

Party of 7. Mother in law's b'day. Food good, service good. However..... this is how they charge for a meal: food + tax x gratuity = bill. The waiter and hostess (which I think are the owners) confirmed this policy. In Shelby County, the tax is 5%. Amore has a standard policy of charging 20% gratuity on parties of six or more. Remember, they charge gratuity on the tax.... So, the actual gratuity is more than 20%. Then, we are told by the waiter that the gratuity was included on our bill. We split the bill. Our share came to $115. When the receipt came back, we were charged $138. We asked why and was told because they had to add gratuity. IT WAS ALREADY INCLUDED IN THE BILL!!!! We could not get the waiter and hostess to see the mistake. We finally left the restaurant about an hour after we finished our meal. I think everything is straight, we'll see tomorrow when we check our credit card account. Plus, we had reservations at 7:30. We had to wait 45min on our table. Yes, do the math.... we finally left at 10:30..... Grrrr.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
