Terrible service. We came for Mother's Day. Half our party's food came out and it was 20 minutes before the other half of our orders showed up. The kids meals came out last. Almost everyone's meals were missing at least one of the sides. The grilled shrimp were very greasy. The fried dishes were better but the overall experience was terrible. I highly recommend steering clear of this place.

I get the sensation that methamphetamine is really big out here. The waitresses and staff appear filthy. Food may be decent, but the appearance of the food handlers supersedes any notion of hunger.

This is the old Captain Morgans location which was allegedly affiliated with Hueytown's famous Bryant's. This place is a poor knock off of Bryant's. Its OVER PRICED!!! The food is poorly prepared and greasy! We had an awful experience. The servers ignored our table when we arrived. We had to get managment involved twice to find someone to wait on us. WE should have left! The service continued to be horrible the remainder of the night and to top it all off....The server actually stole from my friend by adding additional money to her tip line over what my friend had generously left. Managment was unphased by this and did nothing to try and make good on the situation when he brought it to their attention a few days after when it cleared his account. DO not go here for any reason. This place will likely be closed before you get the opportunity based on our experience. If for whatever reason you do try this place check your account statments.....

The food was very bland and underwhelming. If I had to guess they buy the food prepared and simply throw in the fryer. We waited forever for our food and there were only two other tables occupied. When our food finally came out it wasn't even hot. I would have sent it back, but the waitress never came back to check on us. I was really hoping this would be good, but sadly, I cannot recommend eating here.

Worst meal we have had in years.they must buy their food in the frozen food section of the grocery store. Rubber shrimp,stale fish,very slow service. Better sea food at captain d's. Very pricey for the quality. All i can say is YUCK!!!!

My husband and I ate here tonight and it was good food. Service was great! Hostess and servers were very friendly and attentive! Will go back!

Myself along with five of my fraternity brothers were in the area and decided on this spot. What a HUGE disappointment! The service was extremely slow, the food was about as bland as you can get it. My entire party all agreed that the best thing we ate here was the hush puppies. Sorry to say, but we were not impressed at all!!

If I could rate this restaurant a zero I would. This place is horrible! Food looks like it's been soaked in grease. Fish was tough, greasy and nasty! Don't recommend this place to anyone!

I had avoided trying Fish Hook because of existing Yelp reviews. I decided to try it after sampling items from their food truck that was at a recent event at Hoover High School. The hostess told me the restaurant had new ownership (effective July 2015), and offered a new menu. Does Yelp have a process to purge old reviews when a restaurant changes ownership? That would seem fair because it will be tough to overcome the numerous 1-star ratings prior to July. Overall, I thought it was pretty good. There were some Items that I thought they did very well and a couple that I would pass on. The restaurant was busy on Saturday night, and the service was slow but not terrible. Appetizers The Rocket Shrimp was excellent. A huge portion of fried shrimp tossed in their Rocket sauce. The sauce is creamy, slightly sweet, and a little spicy. It is similar to the Bang Bang Shrimp at Bonefish Grill. We really liked it. We also had the fried crab claws. The claws were small and didn't have much meat on them. The batter was just okay, and the dish had lots of little fried scraps. I probably would not order this again. Entrees I ordered the Shrimp Creole, and thought it was pretty good. The tomato-based sauce was seasoned well and the shrimp were good and plentiful. The entree is served in a plate sized bowl with rice and three slices of French bread. Shrimp Creole is a Louisiana standard, and I thought this dish was pretty authentic. Linh ordered the Shrimp and Grits and she loved it. The sauce was rich and creamy. Kristine said "it was the perfect warmth." Slices of Conecuh sausage were cooked into the seasoning and that was a nice twist. Kristine ordered the Fish and Chips. The fish was fried tempura style, which is a simple batter, prepared with cold water. This makes the batter light and crispy. I thought the fish was good when it was first served, but became a tad greasy as it cooled down. The homemade, kettle chips were excellent, they were crisp and salty. I'm on the fence on whether to recommend, but Kristine says "thumbs up." Jennifer ordered the butterfly shrimp. The entrée includes 12 large shrimp that were the right size for butterflying. We thought the batter was rather bland. You get to select two side items with this entrée. Most of the sides were standard, and Jennifer ordered fried okra and mashed potatoes. The side that sounded interesting to me was the Citrus Corn Relish.

This is a decent seafood and steak restaurant in Bessemer right if the interstate. My overall impression was just as I said above... "Decent" The service was very southern and they were nice when we walked in. The menu was a little pricey which alluded to a nice quality ingredients. However, when they brought the food I was a little disappointed. The food seemed to be from bag and deep fried. Now, I got a house salad with the grilled (blackened) chicken salad. It actually was very enjoyable. However, people in the party had the following to say about it: the boiled shrimp tasted mealy, the portions were great, the service was slow and they could've used more service. Overall it was an okay experience. I think I would go back if I was looking for some fried food and French fries. But if I was looking for fresh seafood and fresh sides, I would steer away from here. My final say... meh.
