We came here to try the place out, even with the negative yelp reviews. We have been here twice and found the food very good and the service excellent. The prices are consistent with other seafood places around. The cole slaw has shrimp in it and is very good. Our experience was overall very pleasant, and we put it in our list of places to eat in Auburn.

I have to agree with the previous reviewers that this restaurant is overpriced and overrated for food I can do better at Red Lobster especially if you are not here for the AYCE deals. A $10 popcorn shrimp basket and fries looked straight out of McDonald's. I think that's their marketing strategy here--to mark up the normal items to the extent AYCE are your only resort. Nonetheless, I had no problem with the food. The items are solid in flavor--not fantastic but never go wrong. Our waitress worked really hard to have us our needs met even though she was waiting on too many tables. I'm not sure the food is better than other fast food seafood chain restaurant but the deals carry this business. It's always packed at any time of the day so get here much earlier than when you'd actually want to eat.

I was a big fan of Shrimp Basket prior to this one visit. We ordered at 6:40, our food did not arrive until close to 8pm. At this point, the waitress left our glasses empty and basically neglected us. However she said "we'll discount something." So, at 8:23 comes the check. When we ask about a discount the waitress then said "My manager said we can't do that." When we asked for the manager, the waitress went to get him. The only problem was, the manager never came. Way to listen to your patrons, Shrimp Basket. (did you catch my sarcasm?) To put it simply, we should have gotten up and walked out. The bathrooms are dirty, the service is terrible, and I'm greatly disappointed. It will be a long time before we come back, if we do at all.

I've never lived far from the ocean until I moved to Auburn. I was extremely excited to see this place open! The first time I went I wasn't too impressed but it did cure my cravings. Service was okay, it was really EXTREMELY busy and the waitress seemed to try her best. Second time I went the service was awful. It was on a late weekday afternoon, not packed at all... lots of servers standing around and doing nothing. We had about 3-4 different people serve us. All the servers forgot requests and never came to check up. When I asked to speak with a manager the waitress went to get him and just like a reviewer below, did not come. Instead they had a cook I had been watching in the kitchen come out. I would prefer to never come back here but if I ever get one of those cravings again I will be sure to order to pick up.

Pretty decent food for a restaurant that isn't on the beach. We split a pound of steamed shrimp and they were well cooked and pretty tasty. The fried picked okra were very good and the red beans and rice were mediocre. Overall kit a bad place to eat. No issues with the service; everything was promptly brought out and served with a smile.

Great mahi tacos, service was good and everyone really liked their food. All of the fish tasted fresh and not frozen. Only negative is they only have one draft beer and one dessert. Like it or leave it, which I did.(leave it) The Fries could also improve, very small and pretty cold.

If you are a seafood lover like me, this place is good enough to satisfy your cravings, but it's not the best. A little overpriced. You do kinda feel like you're at the beach though and that's nice.

My experience at Shrimp Basket Auburn was FANTASTIC!!!! The service was great and the food was more than I could have asked for! I will definitely be going back and recommend it to friends and family. Everyone definitely needs to check it out!

I made two trips here yesterday--the first and the last. I'll start with the positives: the service was fine. The negatives: The food is STUPIDLY overpriced. I ordered an $8 crawfish po boy (which should have been called a crawfish hoagie) and then had to pay another $2.50 for fries. That would have been o.k. if they served me a sandwich that required me to corral the crawfish into the bread because there were so many they were crawling out. You couldn't shake a crawfish out of the sandwich. In fact, the last 1/4 of my sandwich was nothing but bread, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. You know how I know it wasn't a just a lemon? My buddy ordered the same thing and received the same thing. The parking lot on the front side of the building is tight. If you're in a truck with any real length to it park in the back or in the strip mall parking spaces. If you've seen the Austin Powers movie where he turns a vehicle around in a hallway you'll know what I looked like. That won't be the last time I eat in that building, but when I do it will have a different name on the door.

Portions were weak. Service was good. Overpriced for frozen food.

Food is good. But well overpriced and haven't had very god experiences with the staff or help there. It takes a long time to get seated and served. Not very good service.

I rarely think a place is terrible, but unfortunately I have to rate The Shrimp Basket as being the worst I've had in Auburn. Ordered the AYCE fried fish they have Monday-Thursday. The fried fish was so slimy and fatty-- even remembering it makes me queasy. Very disappointing. The servers were very friendly-- overly so, but the food was bad. Broccoli, hush puppies, slaw all tasted like WalMart or Kroger, and the service was agonizingly slow. Needless to say I will not be returning. I had high hopes.

Was not expecting.it to be as good as it was based on previous reviews. Went there on a Monday night and three of us knocked out 2 dozen raw oysters, a 1 lb. shrimp basket, an all you can eat whitefish basket, crab claws, and about a dozen Coronas. Everything was delicious. Service was awesome as well.

Wow this place was bad. My wife and i went for dinner on a weeknight. With the exception of 1 party all of the outside tables were empty .. they were all dirty as well. We asked to sit outside and were told just grab a table and a waitress would be out. 10 minutes later somebody came and took our drink order and said somebody would be out too clean the table. When they brought our sodas we pointed out that nobody had come out to clean the table. I was completely shocked when the response was "well ... I can ask her again ... but if you want you can sit at that table that's a little cleaner" (not bussed .. just slightly less dirty). I was pretty sure a tip was out of the question at that point but the waitress coming out to smoke and talk on her cell phone while we were waiting for her to bring a check sealed it. I finally had to go in and ask the manager for the check. Needless to say I won't be going back.

Our family enjoyed supper at the Shrimp Basket in Auburn last night. The waitress was cheerful, attentive and accurate with our orders. The restaurant was about 40% full - not bad for a summer Monday night in a college town. We ordered a fried stuffed crab basket with a side of fried okra, blackened whitefish with shrimp etoufée, shrimp Alfredo, and a house salad. All were well-received. Fried items were served hot and without excessive grease. The standard shrimp cole slaw was fresh and delicious. The etoufée had a nice gumbo flavor with a roux base. The shrimp Alfredo was a hit with my 2-year-old grandson. The pinot grigio was good, too. No opinion from the boy on that. Older reviews complained about high prices. The Shrimp Basket menu is priced typically for fresh seafood, in my opinion. The highest-price offering is a fried crab claw basket, $17.99. The most generous plates, a seafood platter with four different seafood items and a low-country boil for two, both cost $14.99 per person. The majority of the meals are poboys and fried baskets, which run between $7 and $13. Most people should find something good and affordable here. We will be back soon and hope to see you there.
