You see one Mexican restaurant menu you've pretty much seen them all. El Dorado doesn't stray too far from the norm, offering familiar combos, fajita platters and the usual tacos, burritos, enchiladas and nachos on an extensive menu. There seem to be a few more shrimp items than the usual Mexican restaurant. I had the Enchiladas Verde, four steak enchiladas with a sprinkle of cheese and salsa verde plus lettuce and sour cream. The salsa was perfect, slightly sour and piquant. Everyone enjoyed their food, but the shrimp over rice got special raves. Ice cream was served in a fried tortilla bowl sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. I tried a bite of the bowl and it was stale. Service was more than adequate with just the slightest language barrier and food arrived promptly. El Dorado was more than adequate for our hungry tribe, nothing too special but no problems either.

This is the best Mexican food in auburn/ Opelika. I have been to them all the Mexican restaurants in the area and el dorado makes the best queso dip the best enchiladas verde and salsa.

Seriously, this place is terrible. We are here for Cinco De Mayo. It's Cinco De Sucko here. We got margaritas (obviously) they only have specials for the medium and small . Okay cool. I get regular on the rocks with a salted rim. They bring it IN A STYROFOAM CUP. And it tastes like lemonade. We've been here an hour and not even put in our food order. Terrible service, worse drinks. This is a Mexican restaurant that can't make margaritas. Don't come here. There are also two El Dorado's on Yelp so the bad reviews aren't factored in to this listing. Just FYI.

I was a little hesistant of coming here because of other yelp reviews. The service was better than any other local Mexican restaurant. The manager even double checked to see if our drink orders had been taken while our server was making our margaritas (which are not only delicious, but stout, too!) My chicken quesadilla was stuffed with chicken and cheese and I couldn't even finish it. I'll be back.

This is 100% the best mexican restaurant in Auburn! The drinks age huge and so awesome. The people who work here are so friendly and down to earth! They all are extremely polite and cater to your every need. Most importantly, the food is to die for! It comes out so quick and it is mouth watering. I will never go to any other mexican restaurant in Auburn after coming here!

Great food and service - I've never had a bad experience! Definitely one of my favorites in Auburn (and all I get is a soft taco, cheese dip, and a margarita).

Our service quick and friendly, but it wasn't crowded either. The food was tasty and hot. The prices on the lunch menu are very reasonable.

Everyone has their favorite Mexican restaurant in Auburn, this one is mine. My fiance and I go here probably once every week-and-a-half. We both really like it. This used to be a Johnny Brusco's, but that closed in 2009 or so, and this place opened up not too long after that I believe. If you go to the bathroom, you can clearly tell this place used to be Italian. You can also tell just from looking around the restaurant, but they've made it more difficult to tell lately. Anyway, right when you walk in, the manager is there with a very friendly "Hey Amigo's!" to welcome you. I always start off with a queso dip here, it's cheaper than everywhere else and comes in a soup cup. Good stuff. Off of the menu, I love everything I've tried from here. In my opinion, cheap Mexican just isn't good unless you're getting greasy meat. I don't think it's sketchy, just tasty. If you don't share the same thought, you're better off going to Laredo's over by the mall. Anyway, I've tried (I think) every meat offered here. Steak, chicken, ground beef, even the shrimp is good. Quesadillas, tacos, nachos, fajitas, all terrific. I will say that this restaurant is probably lacking in the burrito selection compared to the other Mexican joints in town, but I think El Dorado gets around it. As I said, this is my favorite Mexican place in town, the service is great, the food is good (and cheap) and I really like it. The bathrooms aren't usually the cleanest, but I'm a guy so it hasn't been a problem like it might be for a girl. So if you haven't come here, try it. Freshman, grow out of the "Cancun's is the only Mexican for me" phase and try the other Mexican restaurants in town, but try this place first.

This place is so bad, probably the worst Mexican in Auburn/Opelika. The menu is huge, so obviously everything is out of a freezer, can, and/or microwave. And the food tastes like it. Pretty sure the enchilada sauce is the same stuff you get in the make your own ElPaso kits at WalMart. And I'm even more sure that the "chicken" is from a can. And the prices are about triple the price of your WalMart kit. Go somewhere else, ANYWHERE else.

Well at least they got the coke right... The service was worse, strong language barrier.

I was hesitant to come here and reading more than a few bad reviews. After discussing it with my date, we decided to give it shot. We arrived around 2 pm and was able to order a couple of lunch specials. We ordered the number four on the lunch menu. Our total came up to $13 for the two of us. The food was good and filling. Thumbs up

Food was served hot and maybe it's just me, but I ordered the enchiladas and got 4 (beef, chicken, bean, cheese) and I found it not that tasty. No flavor in any of the enchiladas or the sauce. It was a huge serving, I could not finish, but I kept thinking, where is the flavor? So my husband ordered beef fajita nachoes. They were very flavorful! Yummy tasting but sooooo greasy! Why do they do that??? Lots of folks eating there, so I'm unsure why, we must have hit it on an off night? Idk....don't know if we will come back.

The only thing that is worth coming for are the giant drinks that they serve. The Mexican food they serve isn't good but they're really cheap. The dishes take forever for them to come out and the waiter is usually gone for long periods of time. I ordered the peach daiquiri and it tasted and felt more like a peach smoothie. I had to change the rating for my review because this place has more memories with friends for me than it did for food and that may not be fair. We celebrated my friend's birthday here and they actually sang an actual Mexican celebratory song (not just happy birthday in Spanish) which was very soothing and melodic. I think in that moment, the staff won me over. Some of them may be grumpy guys but deep down, I know they have a big heart.

I hate leftovers. Even worse? Wasting food. Dang you El Dorado for making me do both. I will on the rare occasion order lunch from here with people at work. They'll give you a ton of chips and salsa, which is nice. Too bad the food just isn't very good. Two stars for being good enough for me to order from for lunch when I'm desperate.

Typical college Mexican restaurant. Great drink specials and ok food. Not bad but not the best I have had either. Cheese dip was good and beer was cold. Nuf said!!

How can you screw up Mexican food to this extent. Cheap or not... The guacamole was watery and tasteless; the waitress took it back to the kitchen and they prepared a "fresh" batch...it was less watery, but still inedible. The chili relleno appeared to be pre-made as the cheese had a crust on it that was then reheated...if it wasn't premade...it was odd... The beef taco was filled with a few pieces of shredded cheese, some moist iceberg lettuce, and some unripened tomatoes. I thought I could never utter the following phrase but here goes " Taco Bell would be an upgrade"

My favorite for Mexican food in Auburn! We went on a crowded Friday night, and to our delight, we were seated right away, and our server was there immediately. The chips and salsa were fresh and tasty, and our orders were generous, correct and steaming. My party ordered chicken chimichangas, shrimp quesadillas, some steak dish that was delicious, and the spinach and mushroom quesadilla off the vegetarian menu (there always has to be one in every crowd). We all said we would order the same again, which means that we will return!!!

The salsa was good if you got enough of it on your chip, but my family and I ate there and ordered three different things and none of us liked any of them. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.. Prices weren't bad, but the food wasn't good enough to match the price.

Everyone in Auburn has their favorite Mexican food but this is mine. The staff is always really friendly and they have really good chips and salsa. The fajitas and quesadillas are really good.

OMFG! Four Pork Tacos de Adobados - 9.75 I ate here a few years back and it was good, mostly drinkin'. Now, I'm here munchin' and it's killer. Sorry if that's not sophisticated. Margs rock too. Holding back on presentation and tortillas. You're supposed to get a choice of tortillas, I did not. Service was a bit slow at the bar. Don't let that hold you back, it tastes pretty freaking awesome!

One of the best mexican foods i have eaten in auburn. Staff are very friendly and customer service is on point. They also have some amazing specials for dinner menu that i highly recommend. Also, they have a spicy house sauce that is to die for. If your in auburn or just passing through you should definitely check this place out

Aw, this place isn't that terrible. El Dorado's food is not bad and pretty cheap. Yes, it's not gourmet fancy Mexican but you know that going in. The last time I was here, our waitress was very sweet though she could have been a little more attentive. I noticed that the waitress for the adjacent booth seemed to visit those customers more often. You can order from the lunch menu on Sundays which is awesome. Good number of options to select from. I got a taco, quesadilla, and tamale. This may sound odd, but the cheesecake burrito blew our minds. Even though my lunch companions swore they didn't want any when I ordered, they ended up stealing several bites. Crunchy shell, delightful interior. Try this! Interesting: I noticed huevos rancheros on the menu, along with Bloody Marys. Looks like El Dorado could be a brunch possibility. I was gonna give El Dorado three stars but the cheesecake burrito bumped them up to four. Mmm!

The dude at the front... that seats you... was very angry. I haven't heard that severe cussing in Spanish in a while... since I was in CA. He was mad that the booth that he was about to seat us at was unclean. If you're looking for service, do not go here. The burrito I ordered was delicious, but not THAT great. If you're stuck on South College and you really wanted Mexican... this place beats Baja Burrito. That's I can say about it...

The food is soooo good! It feels very authentic just the way I like it. I picked up a to-go order for lunch and was pleasantly filled up with their enchilada and taco. The price was reasonable and the owner is very upbeat and friendly. His brother owns another authentic restaurant in Colombus. Only downside for me? No horchata! After they get an order in I'm sure it will be five stars.. : T

This is the worst restaurant in my 55 years I have ever been to in my life!!! Food was ugly, yes ugly, and did not even look like edible food.. burned, crap! Drink... had trash in the bottom of it.. Obviously, they had poured left over margaritas together with straw papers, gum, etc. in it.. CALLING the Dept. of Health. This place should be closed. After waiter brought food... WE NEVER saw him again!!! waited and watied to give back food... NEVER CAME.

It looks like my experience is pretty much the same as the other reviewers. The last time was there I waited 30 minutes before the server spoke to us and I only stayed because I was with a group of people. The food is usually cold and even soggy at times. The only thing good about this restaurant is that they make pretty strong margaritas but it doesn't make up for how crappy everything else is...

I don't know if I just went on good nights, but I had decent service all three times(one of which was the Friday before the LSU game and it was packed). I come from a family with roots in Mexico and south Texas, and overall I was pleased with the food. It was the usual American style Mexican food.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
