Thoroughly enjoyed my lunch here. Pimento cheese was above average, but the pita chips were awesome. For my entree, I had the Mississippi catfish tacos---amazing. The slaw in then was super fresh, and the salsa had just enough kick. My portions and the ones I saw on nearby tables were generous. The atmosphere is contemporary and sleek. Can't wait to visit again.

This is my second time at Acre. The first time is when I dropped off my daughter for college. This time we are celebrating a graduation. Today is a Mother's Day brunch with chicken, waffles, prime rib, and sides. The service is excellent and the food is delicious. Although I won't be graduating any more kids from college this place may be with the trip anyway.,

Delicious! My goodness. Everything I had was yummy! The shrimp and grits were a bit lacking in flavor, but still good. The Teres Major with white cheddar potatoes was amazing, and full of flavor! The Mississippi Red Fish was also delicious and very tender. The Fried Gouda Grits and the Caramelized Beets were both great, although again, the grits could have had more flavor. The building itself, inside and out, is beautiful and has an industrial, salvaged look to it and I love it! Great atmosphere and extremely nice, helpful servers. Apparently the menu changes a lot and I'm excited to try new things! Definitely coming back! A must if you're in Auburn!

AMAZING!! Auburn is really getting some fantastic restaurants lately and Acre is one of them! I had a wonderful birthday dinner with very special friends here and absolutely loved every minute of it. First up was a few minute wait at the bar while our table was being set. The bar area has a comfy bar to stand or sit at, and an awesome setting of sofas and chairs to make your wait more relaxing! Great bar with awesome craft cocktails, I might add. After looking at the list and not being able to decide, I settled for the vodka martini, told them i wanted it "skating" and they absolutely knew what it meant and brought me a perfect drink. LOVED IT. They've got a nice selection of hipster beers as well. Then it was off to dinner. For starters, the menu is super cool. We chose the "butchers block" charcuterie / cheese plate because I was apparently going to dry every damn thing on their menu! It was fabulous and beautifully presented. We opted for all southern cheeses because we have some darn good cheese makers here these days (asher blue, thomasville tomme, belle chevre goat ... all wonderful). We also had David's AL tamales, cauliflower risotto, hot house fried green tomato stack - which are prepared with a pimento cheese layer in between them and also blue crab, OUT. OF. THIS. WORLD., then we all had salads (roasted beet salad wins my love). For dinner, we had the snapper, which came with this really tasty collard green gazpacho, the swordfish, which was served with crawfish and a really tasty red pepper carrot slaw, the black belt Bibimbap with the "acre" hot sauce (that we had to come home with a jar of along with explicit instructions on how to re-create this dish by the chef, i might add!) extra collards (of COURSE we had to have extra collards!) and a side of gouda grits. I have no idea where we put all the food! The wine selection is perfect. Great choices of both new and old world wines - and I love that they set them up that way - many restaurants lump them all together and for the wine drinker who doesn't know all the ins and outs of the wines, that can be confusing. This presentation makes it a lot easier to "digest". I also didn't feel like I was getting taken to the slaughter house on the prices, which was quite refreshing and will make me want to go back and try other wines from their selection instead of bringing my own bottle (which I so often choose to do). Stephen Pierce deserves the kudos for that list - WELL DONE, sir! This place is wonderful. One of the best meals I have had in a long time. It's a great location. The building is beautiful and rather well appointed. It's comfortable. It's upscale, yet homey feeling - I felt like I would have felt great in a sparkly dress or jeans and heels. The service was good. The menu choices were outstanding. I love that the care taken in preparing locally grown and raised food. David Bancroft works with the Auburn University meat lab to ensure that they are serving "responsibly raised" meats. I mean, seriously? Who does that!?! Who takes that much pride in their food? Can't wait for my summer-time visit to see what the seasonally constructed menu has in store.

There were too many flaws with our dishes to justify the high price tag per plate, and thus my 3-star review. I know tons of places in Atlanta that have similar prices, but better execution and service, and I can justify paying $20+ for a steak meal there versus Acre. We came in after a game to thaw and to get some decent food. The wait was already long (2+ hours for a table; guess you need reservations), and we managed to snag some seats at the bar. Naturally, we waited there for a long time before getting served because the bar was overcrowded with people ordering drinks and waiting on a spot to open up. Because I was borderline hangry, we ordered pimento cheese served with smoked paprika chips. The chips were really good, and complimented the cheese well. But, they broke off too easily when dipping them. Their cheese-to-chip ratio is also off, so we had to get another serving (on the house, thankfully). And, the cheese wasn't anything special, either. I've definitely had better. Boyfriend wanted the jalapeno poppers, and they weren't traditional poppers. They were balls of shredded jalapeno with other stuff, and weren't spicy at all. I'm a spicy food wimp and generally stay away from jalapenos because they're over my threshold. However, I could eat these, especially with the sweet sauce they were served over. We split the steak entree, in part because it was like $23, and were expecting something more than what we got. It was a nicely plated dish: cubed sweet potatoes with sliced steak on top, and topped with a little "brick" of collards and something else that I can't remember. We were expecting more food for the money, but an actual side of collards to offset some of the junk we'd eaten all day. Although the flavors were good, we were overall disappointed. To add to the letdown, the food wasn't cooked evenly. Some potatoes were cold, others hot (usually under the steak tower), others were cooked properly and others under-cooked in addition to the temperature difference. The steak didn't have a lot of flavor, despite being labeled as "butt rubbed", whatever that means. However, they do have a really cool ambiance. The place feels very country-homey, and laid back with the servers in collared shirts and jeans. I can definitely see the curb appeal, but that's where it stopped for us. Overall, I think this place sticks out like a sore thumb in the Auburn/Opelika area. I'm not sure how they do business outside of game days (parents weekend?), unless they offer half price food most days of the week. I recall seeing a specials menu, but don't remember what all was on it. Basically, I don't know how college kids pay for this food routinely. I surely couldn't while I was a student.

This place is a bit pompous about their service and very long winded discription of how the food was grown on site by the road. How everything was seasonal vegetables. When my wife asked about 2 of the vegetables on the menu being out of season locally the waiter stated that it was a misprint We were seated by 7:30 and the 1st 4 things we ordered were sold out. So after going through half the menu not avilable I settled on the Teres Major because of the picture in Yelp. When it came to the table it was a sad looking plate compaired to the picture. When we asked the waiter why there was so little meat and a very different from the picture he stated that was how it was pepaired last month. Maybe they where running out of steak & local vegetables. Because of the limited menue items my wife ordered a small plate starter. Then the waiter told us it was the last night he was working he and started pushing desert hard. We didn't want to be disappointed by our choices also sold out so we called it a night. Im sure they have better nights but this was not a good one for us

Awesome food, fun atmosphere! I was expecting portions to be small, but the Mac and cheese appetizer would have filled me up completely! The menu changes every week depending on what's in season, which is awesome. Pricey, but you get what you pay for. Top notch fresh food.

Service was fantastic, but the lunch/brunch menu suffered a bit from the dinner menu. Fried green tomatoes app was delicious. My husband's korean bbq brisket and kimchi tacos were great. However, my "chef's pick & three" featured chicken sliders that were so overcooked the were inedible. Sent them back for the brisket and gravy only to get a so-so item. In the future I will definitely skip the day menu and wait for the fantastic dinner menu.

Finally!! We have been saying for years that we needed a quality fine dining establishment in the heart of Auburn. W/ our Hotel & Restaurant Management program I was always puzzled why we didn't have more options in town. Please continue this trend!!

Went to Acre last week for dinner with my girlfriend. We knew the chef from his days at Amsterdam Cafe, and we could not have been more excited about trying Acre. Unfortunately the night turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. Our first issue was with the menu. And I mean both the menu items and the menu itself. It is arranged in three sections that are supposed to represent different food styles with apps, small plates, and entrees all grouped together in their supposed section. It really seemed like any item could easily go in any section. So the menu just came off as pretentious and confusing. There was also nothing on there that we felt like we "had" to have. We started off with the oyster boudin balls, which were actually quite nice. Those were followed by the rabbit Brunswick stew and fried calamari, which were both pretty average. This would normally be the point at dinner where we both order an entree that was narrowed down from all of the exciting choices. But this dinner trip, we decided that there was nothing that sounded worth stuffing ourselves over. The place is gorgeous inside, and the service was good too. Maybe we just caught them on a bad night, but it seems like they might be just trying too hard to be different. Based on our first experience there, you could find better places to go if you want to spend a few bucks on a nice night out.

I hate to update my review for Acre, but there are some things that need addressed in hopes they can improve themselves, because I definitely need fine dining in my life! I booked a large party for my birthday well in advance. Upon arrival for our 7:30 seating we were seated around 8:00 PM -after waiters hastily set up the patio for our large party. Mind you, this was January 4, during the cold snap and it was in the teens that night and although we were seated in a *mostly* enclosed patio, with no heater, we were are very, very uncomfortable and cold. Once we ordered (most of us chose the daily special), 10 minutes later we were told it had all sold out. Apparently inventory needs to be better maintained and consistently updated. I chose Acre for its warm ambiance, lovely decor and great food -sadly none of which I feel we got to experience that night. The shrimp and grits several people ordered (by my glowing recommendation) were a ghost of their previous glory back in September. Whether it was due to ordering issues or lack of seasonal prawns/seafood, it was a sad dish indeed. Although still tasty, the presentations varied at our table and the shrimp looked like the ones one can pick up at Kroger- not the beautiful grilled large shrimp that once adorned the plates. That being said, maybe that dish should be seasonal and not permanent. My husbands lamb shank was over cooked as well. All things considered I hope that these errors were due to most of the head staff being away at the game or out of town, but I hope to have another good dining experience here soon.

The best way to enjoy this place is to pretend that you're stuck-up and full of yourself and have a great time being rude to everyone while you're there. Since it's the only restaurant of its kind in Auburn, I think they're under the impression that a side of phoniness goes with every dish. Gorgeous facilities and beautiful menu, but the food is crap. Jump in with both feet and don't take any guff from these swine.

Auburn finally has a restaurant worthy of acclaim. Acre is newly opened and with a menu that rivals few southern foodie establishments. It is on par with several of Alabama's award winning establishments such as Hot and Hot Fish Club, Highlands Bar & Grill and Bottega. Tonight we had excellent service and great food which was probably the best I have ever had in Auburn. I would highly recommend Acre.

I was pretty impressed with the spinach strawberry salad. High quality blue cheese, bacon, strawberries, walnuts, dressing...well it was just perfect, actually! I also liked the tomato soup and pimento cheese slider. Service was a little slow despite our group dining early in the evening. I was in the mood for a light dinner and this fit the bill and was reasonable for the quality (~$15 for soup & salad). The entrees sounded nice and are a bit pricey, so I can see myself returning again for a special occasion.

Best meal I have ever eaten. You need to make a reservation. As soon as we arrived, we were seated. Our waitress - I think her name was Barrett? - was sweet and helped explain the menu. The menu changes daily. I had red snapper w/ crawfish butter over grits and my boyfriend had the soft shell crab poboy. SO GOOD! Both! I had one of their cocktails, too - can't remember the name, but it was delicious. Highly recommend! Everything was perfect - service, food, ambiance. Can't wait to go back.

So so good. To a reviewer who wondered how they can stay afloat in a college town, adults live here also and don't want to eat wings with kids 1/2 their age (and likely their sitters, yes I have run into mine) when they go out with friends and no kids! The atmosphere is nice, rustic but not kitschy, it feels like a nice house with smaller rooms. The bar area is small, I would definitely get reservations. Attire is from nicer casual to dressy. Now the food, David Bancroft is introducing so many different and unique items to the area, pickled grapes anyone? :) I have traveled the world and the states (look at my reviews) and I would put this up against any of the places I have been. I order appetizers and small plates usually because I want to try so many things. The pimento cheese and paprika "chips" are great (and I had plenty of chips, took them home and they were still crisp from the fridge a couple of days later. The chili they use in the chili and tamales is spicy. The bread plate and Dixie picnic appetizer are great. The tamales with sweet potato masa are great and very filing. The brisket burger (available on the lunch menu and if you ask at night) is tdf! Bone marrow is limited each night, so order if you can, perfect on the crusty bread and with sweet pickled onions to add on top as well. Very good. The smoked Gouda grit cake is an excellent side. I haven't been to brunch yet, but I hear it is amazing.

Our only negative was we are over 50 in age and had to sit at a picnic type table and the entree's were pricy. We had no seat back and became uncomfortable. The food was great. We loved the charcuterie board - was delicious but expensive. We had to send food back to be cooked a little more. The service was not - we were left alone for quite a while. It was expensive and nothing like bread was provided. We would like to go back and have a smaller group and sit at a table because the food was good but on a less busy night.

Kinda pretentious in a way. the food is ok but way overrated. Service is sub-par and really brings down the experience. First of all this place is super busy, so reservations are highly recommended. The parking situation is horrible, and although they have free valet, it feels silly to tip someone to move your car 30 yards. I think the funniest part of my visit was to hear the bartender explain what Foie Gras was to the clientele, but I digress. One of the least talkative bartenders I have had in Auburn, but they do have a decent happy hour. Service was sub-par. we were having a business dinner and they took a long time to serve us. the wine list decent and merits further study, however, the servers need to be trained on how to properly serve wine to a table, they need to go read up a little webstaurantstore.com/blo… And really, one small plate of bread for a table of 6? Once the food started to arrive, it was decently cooked, most of my colleagues had the steak, while I had several small plates. Everything tasted good and I was pleasantly surprised by the seafood ceviche. Overall a decent place but way overrated. Make a reservation take it for what it is. An ok sized fish in a very small pond.

My wife and I had an amazing meal at Acre tonight. Truly an amazing restaurant. We are thrilled to have a restaurant of this caliber in our area. Wonderful people and great service with an incredible atmosphere. Truly a gem.

I'm writing this review because the manager at this restaurant has been ignoring our complaints for 30 minutes now. Before I start, I must mention that our bartender is excellent. His name is Alex. He made excellent recommendations and excellent Bloody Mary's. He was nice, fun and professional. We came during their "in between menus" time and they were pretty slow. We were informed of this after we ordered. My boyfriend ordered the BLT off the lunch menu, and was promptly greeted by the front of house manager who said he couldn't have it, and he could only have one of the five things on their bar menu and walked away. No apology, no explanation, not trying to appease us, just matter of fact and walked away. Both of us have worked in restaurants for about 10 years. We understand what is a reasonable request and what isn't. We understand the kitchen needs time to prep for dinner. Asking for a BLT when the kitchen does not have any orders and the ingredients are already prepped would take one cook less than 5 minutes to prepare. Add the fact that the manager really did not care to make any effort to make us happy - this visit left a very sour taste in our mouths. I really expected a higher service standard from this restaurant, and I am leaving extremely disappointed. I understand we are talking about a sandwich here, but it is the management's poor handling of the situation that it my biggest complaint. We make our living making sure our customers are happy and being blown off like this is disrespectful. I'd also like to mention that this manager stood ten feet from us watching the football game while we complained to our bartender, while my boyfriend chose not to order anything at all, and while I typed this entire review. We are still undecided if we will return. Service is great, but if the management does not care about the customers in their restaurant, the servers/bartenders can't do much.

I've only been here for Brunch and Burger Night, so I can't speak to the regular menu, but what I have had was fantastic! My burger was delicious, well seasoned, and a good price. For Brunch, my husband and I split the Chicken Fried Bacon, which is insane, I tell you. This is so darn delicious. Just accept when you order it that you might gain a few pounds from all the fatty goodness. I had the chicken and waffles which were pretty good, but his Brisket and Gravy was amazing. The mashed potatoes were killer. The only complaint I had was a little on portion size for the dinner appetizer we had. We received a sampler platter which was a good size overall, but the pork rinds included with it were dime sized, and only about 5 of them. I'd love to see a dedicated pork rind app on the menu, because the small portion we had was fantastic. The decor and ambiance here is beautiful. It's full of reclaimed wood, rustic brick, and invokes this sense of being in the woods eating a nice meal. Would definitely return.

Ok....first of all...remember this IS in AUBURN, ALABAMA, so set your expectations at an appropriate level. Have eaten there twice. The first time, my son and I were seated in the main dining room, the food was excellent and certainly up to my expectations, the service was excellent, the wine list good, overall--a good experience. The second time, we had a reservation for the seven of us, but we were seated in the bar in a booth with chairs stuffed around a small table. The service was DEPLOYABLE. We actually had to go search for a waitress or waiter twice. Had to beg for a wine menu, was served meals that we did not order, etc. The bar area was NOISY and full of people who apparently don't get out much and do not know how to act when they do. And our tab was over $300--big city prices. We did not even get an apology for being seated in the bar, nor for two of us being served wrong meals (which we opted to eat instead of taking the chance that we would never actually get to see our right meals). Unfortunately, it is still the nicest and certainly the classiest place Auburn has to offer. Will not ever attempt to eat another meal in the bar area, but will give it another chance in the main dining room. Have three more years before the kid graduates and so will be down there periodically until he does and need to eat somewhere else other than the Waffle House.

Absolutely gorgeous restaurant with a great staff, but feel like it's still trying to find its footing, food-wise. Nothing has been BAD, but compared to some of the other very similar restaurants in the area (Amsterdam, The Hound, Hamilton's), there's nothing that really stands out.

I'm really surprised to see several negative reviews for this place. I guess some people can't spot a good thing when they see it. Regardless, the backstory of Acre is pretty intriguing. All of the old salvaged wood above the bar and scattered around the restaurant is from David Bancroft's family farm in Texas. I may have the details a little off, but I believe it's from his grandfather's old farm that he drove all the way to grab the wood from. As for the food and the staff, top notch all the way around. The wait staff and kitchen staff came from some of the best restaurants in Auburn and it shows. Add in the flexibility of the ever-changing menu and you have a truly unique experience from week to week. It doesn't get much better than this in Auburn!

I really, really wanted to like this place, but Acre is honestly way overrated. I was asked why I didn't review it, and my immediate reply was "well because it sucked." I was then countered with "okay isn't that the point of Yelp?" So here you are- I hated it. Sure, it's cute driving up and getting complementary valet, but once inside, things went south. I feel anyone can cook better than what was served out to me that evening. I ordered the steak dinner and my entree came out burnt (though I ordered a medium cooked steak). The menu is certainly overpriced. The seating arrangement is terrible if you get seated on the side where there is the bar. I got placed at a table with my chair as a huge, awkwardly-sized reading chair so I reached the table in an uncomfortable position, and my boyfriend's chair was with it's back to the VERY CLOSELY LOCATED bar (so when people actually stand for the bar instead of dining, you're having people hover behind you screaming to one another, thus preventing you from being able to hear your own convo). You would think owners of a restaurant would know to not design a layout like that. I hate to say it, but I feel it's one of those places people go just to "be seen." Needless to say, I won't be going back. I strongly believe they need to spend more time making sure the food comes out right as opposed to on how everything is decorated on the plate and on the walls.

Thrilled that Lee County Alabama, my home, has such outstanding places to eat. What is not to like about Acre? I've been twice and left completely happy. Loved the chance to sit and watch - and converse - with the various station operators. Thanks guys, you made for interesting and enlightening. I found the offerings imaginative and, from what we ordered, excellently prepared and presented. I do not often make recommendations but their homemade sausage should not be missed. And I truly appreciate their philosophy respecting animals. Please ask them if curious. Thanks for the experience!

It's a nice little place. The tables are a little close together which makes it a little claustrophobic if there are lots of folks there. The food is good but I think I'd like it more if the menu items were a little more unique or varied. If they are trying to go for a Southern farm-to-table concept I think they could really play that up a little more, especially on the dessert side. I've been here twice, and on my most recent visit, the service was odd - our waiter said all the right things (almost over the top) while he was at the table but the actions didn't match. We felt largely ignored most of the time.

Awesome food and we loved the charcuterie so much! The prices are relatively cheaper compared to a big city like Atlanta or Houston...the food was fantastic though!! I would definitely recommend, probably the top restaurant in Auburn...classy, good drinks and delicious food!

Acre was amazing from start to finish. We were there as part of a visiting school group of elementary students. Acre went out of their way to make our kids feel at home. Chef David and his staff showed our students around the farm and invited them to try the begonias and the fresh mint. We had a special dinner menu that was both kid-friendly and appealing to adults (not an easy feat!) The starters were fantastic: pimento cheese and smoked paprika chips were delicious and fresh and the shrimp and grits were fantastic! For dinner we shared family style boards of chicken and waffles (YUM!) and duck sausage corn dogs. The highlight of the meal for me were the shared sides or cast iron mac and cheese and the creamed corn. The mac was far above average and the creamed corn was to die for... so much fresh corn flavor packed into each bite. Can't wait until I get back down to the Plains again!

Saw the place while driving around town, been here for just a few weeks and have been looking for some good places to eat. Call ahead to get a reservation. Dress for Lunch is casual, and for dinner something a little nicer I am guessing. We went for lunch, the menu looked better for what we wanted compared to their dinner menu. We were not disappointed in our selection of food. The brisket plate was very good, close to Texas brisket, nothing was left on the plate it was that good. The decor was pretty neat too. We can see coming back later for another mid day date.

This was my first visit to the Acre and I was really impressed. Let me start by saying I love the decor and atmosphere. I took a new customer to lunch there and it was a great choice. It's just quiet enough that you can still have a conversation but doesn't feel too intimate like your on a date. The food was delicious and the service was good. I had the chicken and my friend had the fish taco's. We were both a member of the clean plate club. :) Also, there sweet tea is just perfect. I wish I lived in Auburn so I could try their Sunday Brunch!

Wonderful lunch there today! The strawberry walnut salad with grilled chicken, the shrimp and grits, and the brisket burgers were great! But, the desserts, blueberry bread pudding and peanut butter pie, were divine. Excellent service and atmosphere. And, War Eagle!

This place had a lot of hype. I'll talk about the food in a moment, but first I'll address the reason for 3 stars: the service. We were clearly just a number at this restaurant. I made a reservation a week in advance. We got to the restaurant and weren't greeted at the door and were barely asked our name by the hostess. THIRTY minutes later we were seated at a table that had been empty for 15, only after I went and asked about the status. During the wait we went to the bar and ordered drinks, again after sitting there for 5 minutes before anyone even spoke to us. The bar was not at all crowded. The Acre Mule was a really good drink. Finally we were seated. The server didn't talk to us much other than taking our order, which seemed to be a theme among the staff there making us feel like just a number. So the food. The jalapeño poppers were very good, almost like hush puppies with a bite. We shared the fried green tomato and shrimp and grits starters. The fried green tomatoes were delicious- the pimento cheese was the best part. We shared those and got our own salads. I got the beet salad which I also enjoyed. Overall, the food was very good, but coupled with the service it was not worth a $100 meal. I'm glad we tried it, but probably won't be going back.

Went twice for lunch with the family. Great atmosphere, very original menu, good food. Wasn't impressed with the wait staff because while the service was prompt they weren't particularly friendly. My wife and I decided to try it for dinner, just the two of us. We were seated at a very awkward, open 2 person table in a row of like tables with a long bench on one side and chairs on the other. It was very crowded, loud and uncomfortable the next tables were no more than a foot to a foot and a half from ours. We were actually closer to the stranger beside us than to each other. Conversation was impossible. Not pleasant much less romantic. And the server this time was not only unfriendly, she was downright surly. We haven't been back since and most likely won't. Very disappointing.

I've only been there once, so I didn't give it five stars, but there's lots of promise here. Lots of gourmet choices, but the food is very comfortable. The hostess was a bit sloppy, but the place is very clean and the service was excellent. The duck and teres major were fabulous entrees. The risotto spot on. Suggested wine pairings were excellent. Local microbrewery beer selections were solid. The peanut butter pie is not to be missed. The restaurant is in walking distance of anything downtown. Don't miss this place if you are in Auburn.

My husband took me there for our first anniversary and I am glad he chose this place. We had the Acre Bread Board which has PBR bread, sourdough, ciabatta, and you get 4 types of butter to go along with them. Then we had the Teres Major Steak which was cooked so perfectly, I swear I have never had any cut of meat that tasted that amazing before or since then, we finished it all off with their Bourbon-Chocolate Pecan Pie which was delicious and now I am making myself hungry again. Pricey, but it was an anniversary dinner and well worth it.

GREAT food. Good wine selection. Good cocktails. Superb service - in fact the only place in Auburn where I feel like the staff has been properly trained. Acre staff nail the details & are always professional. Auburn needed Acre, and it needs more like Acre. This "shabby chic" farm to table movement is wonderful for this town, where too many people I know here say things like "what is pate?" or "what is mesclun?" or "ew, you eat kale? that's weird." People of Auburn - there is nothing wrong with liking Chic-Fil-A, but for the love of headcheese, do yourself a favor, put on your nice clothes (no Norts), and go eat these "weird" foods. At least once in your life. You owe it to yourself.

This is a wonderful restaurant with a great nighttime atmosphere. I took my girlfriend out here for the first time for her birthday. Our server was polite and perfectly balanced the act of taking care of us yet not being intrusive. We had a live jazz musician playing, but nothing obnoxious in terms of volume. Valet parking is complimentary, but I still suggest tips of course. Anyway, if you have the time and money, this is the place to go. Order the ribeye if you're a steak person. I ordered it and the steak had a perfect char topped with seasoned butter--medium rare.

Fantastic farm to table restaurant in Auburn. We ordered a banquet sized quantity of appetizers including ceviche, fried green tomatoes, a house charcuterie plate (two actually), and a few days have elapsed so I can't recall what else we tried but it was all exquisite in preparation and flavor. I ordered the filet mignon for my main course.

After skimming several reviews here, I will concur with the general consensus that the food here is amazing (though overpriced for the area), and the service could be much better. We were in a group of 8, and while we had a reservation, the table was not ready when we arrived. Not a completely bad thing, because it gave us time to grab drinks at the bar and check out the general atmosphere. The ambience is very nice, with light colors but dim lighting. Plank walls and Edison bulbs, with a comfortable classy feel. Attire is what I might call upscale casual. You won't be out of place in jeans or a suit. Things are pretty cramped inside. They've squeezed too many seats/tables into a small space. The three of us on the back side of our table were so close to the window we could not move. The bar area was packed and fairly noisy, but in a good way, rather than the typical crowded bar in a college town. Too much stuff on the tables -- unnecessary plates, and nowhere to move them in order to see the menu. It's nice that the menu changes often, but one problem with this might be that some dishes haven't had a chance to be perfected. Everything I had was superb -- definitely recommend the fried green tomato and the shrimp and grits appetizers. My entree was swordfish, recommended by the server as the best new entree on the menu. It literally melted in my mouth. It had a creamed corn/ cauliflower side, bits of crawfish, and a cajun spice kick to it that made for a really nice balance of flavor and texture. Everyone in my party was very happy with their appetizers, but I was the only one who was totally crazy about my entree. Several people ordered the scallops, and all complained that it was too fishy -- probably an indication that they were not as fresh as they should have been. Not an issue I would expect from a roughly $30 entree. My date had the grouper, and it was nicely cooked, but the flavors were mediocre, and it was also a bit too fishy. Someone else had the duck breast and said it was way too sweet. A couple people ordered the beef cheek and liked it pretty well. Presentation was wonderful in some cases and cursory in others. Service-wise, I expected so much more from one of the most -- if not THE most -- expensive restaurants in town. Our server was very nice but seemed nervous, almost hesitant to approach our table or to communicate. He was very knowledgeable about some dishes but could not identify ingredients in others without a trip to the kitchen. I had the sense that he was either new or fairly inexperienced. I understand that this area is not necessarily rife with experienced fine dining servers, but that's where good training comes in. There was some confusion when appetizers arrived, and I ended up without mine until everyone else was finished. An experienced server would have noticed that I was the only one without an appetizer, but I had to point out that I had been forgotten. A couple useful tips: Parking is limited. There is complimentary valet, but it seems ridiculous to tip someone to move your car a few yards. There's street parking and non-tow lots on the backside of the block on Tichenor Ave. You can just walk over. The wine list is provided on the website. Research and know your wine before you go. Price isn't an issue for everyone, but I personally have a problem paying $45 for a bottle that I happen to know retails for about $12. The quality of the appetizers is much more consistent than the entrees. For the most bang for your buck, order several appetizers and skip the entree. Still plenty of food, and you'll come away happier.

My wife and I made reservations for 7:30, hoping to be after the dinner dish so we would get great service. When we showed up for our reservation, they tried to seat us at the bar. I was hoping for an actual table since I made a reservation, so they moved us to a high top table in the other bar area. At least it was better than sitting at the bar. Our server took an unusually long time to get our drink order and food order. Fortunately we didn't have to wait long at at all for the food, except that the bread came out at the same time as the entree. I ordered the iron skillet red snapper. It was cooked just the way I like it, and the crawfish sauce was delicious as well. The grits were just OK. I like my grits to be thicker, but they weren't bad. My wife ordered the macaroni minus bacon. She really enjoyed it, and so did I. For dessert we had the bread pudding. It was was excellent, but didn't top my favorite from another local restaurant. All in all, it was just a mediocre first experience. It was not a good first impression to sit us at the first-come, first-serve bar when we had reservations. The food was good, but the price was a little high. We'll be back for one more shot.

Went to Acre last night around 8 p.m. for dinner. I order the cheese plate. It was average. The cheeses were not explained and I had to ask twice for the bread that was part of the plate. The nuts on the cheese board consisted of some good-looking pecans but then there was a bunch of honey-roasted peanuts, too. They seems out of place. The service was mediocre. On the upside -- it is a beautiful restaurant and the wine list extensive. We did split a blueberry bread pudding that was wonderful. I will wait a few weeks and give Acre another shot.

Absolutely amazing. Had the shrimp and grit cake to start, followed by the scallop pasta (husband had the flatiron steak), and concluded with the guava bread pudding. All were perfectly cooked, and the flavors were incredible. The atmosphere is absolutely beautiful too. This place truly rivals great restaurants in much larger cities. Probably the best meal I've had this year!

Phenomenal. Fried green tomatoes app was great and snapper equally impressive. Sweet tea infused with bourbon was also worth having (twice).

Dear yelp users, I went to acre with two of my fellow comrades. We were all a tizzy about auburn finally having another posh restaurant in the area. The inside is happening and the service is adequate. Comrade number 1 is from the big easy and ordered the bass. It was according her culinary opinion not edible. Comrade number 2 who is from Cali thought her butchers ward was a plate of Raw and flavorless meat. As an aspiring top model, I of course enjoyed the pâté very much. We will all be returning for the mythical lunch menu which is allegedly much better. Please keep the supposed gator tail on the menu until our timely return. Also: the restaurant is not on an acre of land. Can anyone else say false advertising?

Took the girlfriend here to celebrate our recent graduation from dear Auburn. Wow is all I can say. App: fried green tomatoes with crab meat Meals: Ribeye and Texas Redfish, both excellent Oh, and the bread pudding to round it all off. Very very good, and I really like how everything is locally sourced. The bar was adequate, but my cocktail could have been stronger. Just one thing to be aware of: you are basically forced to valet, there is little to no self-parking. I am not a fan of this, I can't stand other people driving my truck. Wouldn't mind seeing some more parking paved.

Stumbled across this place for lunch while on vacation, and my family and I were absolutely amazed. The vegetable garden and restaurant exterior was beautiful. The service was perfect....our server was helpful, friendly, and extremely attentive. The food was amazing...everyone in our party of seven thoroughly enjoyed their meals (fried catfish and grits, catfish tacos, chicken, and several of their daily specials). I had dietary restrictions, and our server assisted me with a special order that was delicious! If I lived in Auburn, I would eat here several times a week.

ok I'm not giving it 5 stars ONLY because my first visit here was less than spectacular(like one star ;/) anyway David makes delicious food so i had to give it another try and I am soooooo glad I did. I took a girlfriend to brunch we had bloody marys' which were the most amazingly scrumptious drinks Ive had since ...well football season. I had the "brisket and gravy" its an open faced biscuit topped with fresh creamy mashed potatoes hand carved juicy brisket with some kind of creamy cheese sauce topped with a sunny side up egg!!! I was the most fantastic thing ive eaten in years! GO TO BRUNCH HERE!!! its the best!

If you are looking for a nice dinner in Auburn this is definitely one of the places to consider. Their menu changes continually but everything is delicious! The first time I visited Acre they had fried frog legs as an appetizer option and man were they delicious. The chef does a great job all around and you won't be disappointed with anything you choose. Also, besides the food the ambiance is great. The building is beautifully decorated and the glass walled patio is well done.

At this upscale modern southern restaurant, the service is that of a five-star restaurant. They really go out of your way to make you feel like they will attend to any unique needs. The menus are inventive, with modern twists on standard fare (like a brisket burger with sauteed onions and slightly sweet jam) and pork belly slides; while also having some standard items, like chicken wings, shrimp and grits, or a southern fried chicken and pimiento cheese sandwich. The food is both flavorful and artfully prepared. My favorite is the brisket burger-- really good blend of flavors. The meat is exceptionally juicy and flavorful, and the addition of the onions, pork belly, and jam create a melange of salty/sweet tastes that is really unique. I'd highly recommend going once or twice to try some different things.

This place is amazing!! I have been three times and every time the food has been amazing. The pork bellies are incredible! Great atmosphere and place for dinner. If you are a foodie and in the Auburn area then Acre is the restaurant for you. Everything, and I mean everything on the menu is top notch. Cannot wait to go back and try something else. If you go to Acre you honestly will not be disappointed.

Let me first say that my expectations were really high after everything I had heard. They were almost met but not quite. I had the spinach and strawberry salad to start. I will say that I think this was one of the best spinach salads I've ever had. The blue cheese was extremely high quality. The strawberries were perfectly ripe and sweet. Perfection. I also had the creamy tomato soup with pimiento cheese sliders on pretzel rolls. The pimiento cheese sliders were definitely good. The tomato soup was good too but not extraordinary like I expected. Again, you could tell how fresh the soup was...made from tomatoes grown by the Chef. Neither of the people I was with just loved their meal. The snapper was a little too done, apparently and the scallops were described as "just okay". Maybe they're picky. :) My biggest complaint was the service. Our server was fake and way too over the top. It didn't make for a relaxing meal. I can't wait to return and try something else (and a new server). I think I'm going to be a regular and I'm hoping to change this 4-stars to 5-stars. The Hound is still my favorite in Auburn but I have high hopes for Acre!

This place is amazing!! It's not as pricy as some other reviews lead on. The head chef is absolutely fantastic, everything is fresh and local, and they even cure their meats in house. You can spend a lot if you want to, but there are some really reasonable menu options. In my opinion, everything is very reasonably priced considering what you're getting. I went there with my parents and we had the special (a delicious amberjack fish head with potatoes and ciabatta), three appetizers, a glass of wine, another main course (duck), and a coffee creme brûlée. All of it was around $110 without a tip. That's about $37 a person before tip and we have been eating the food for days since. I would strongly recommend this place to anyone who wants a fabulous meal and this place is now the only restaurant my parents want to go to in Auburn.

Would have given it five stars if it weren't super pricey! My boyfriend and I had been dying to try Acre since it opened last year and finally got the chance the other night. We knew going into it that it would be a little more expensive than your average Auburn restaurant but we didn't think that it would be that expensive for simple menu items. We started with the butcher's board for him and a small strawberry salad for me. My salad was amazing! I would have ordered the large one had I known how delicious it would be and my boyfriend's meat plate was wonderful too. It had a selection of five different meats and pickled vegetables and they were all perfect in complimenting each other. For our entrees, I had a smaller portion of the shrimp and grits and he got the trout. My shrimp and grits were the best I've had in a long time, it's hard to eff up the southern classic and Acre actually surpasses perfection with them. Bf's trout was amazing too and I don't usually like a fishy tasting fish like trout so that's saying something. To end the wonderful dinner we decided to go with the s'mores pot for dessert. I don't really have words for it because it was the most blissful thing I've ever put in my mouth. Best dessert I've ever had! We will definitely go back to Acre in the future!!

I was looking for some unique food and a relaxing atmosphere and I found it here. Although the lunch menu was limited it's still offered a decent variety of flavors. When you enter the restaurant the staff was extremely friendly and helpful and we were waited on right away. We ordered an appetizer and main entrée. When the food came the presentation made it look even more delicious. Everything was nicely laid out and I thought the portions were large. We had the BLT and the Brisket with Biscuit and gravy. If you are looking for some cafeteria food then this is not the place but if you want something unique and flavorful than this is the place. We enjoyed every bite of the food and we will definitely come back to this restaurant. I would recommend anyone to try this one out. Look forward to having dinner here one night.

The unique dining experience Auburn has been waiting for. This stylish venue serves up something for people of all tastes. Unique dishes with unusual ingredients for the foodie, hearty meat and potatoes for the less adventurous. The a la carte style menu is divided into categories and reads from top to bottom, with salads/apps at the top, and entrées on the bottom. Full wine and liquor bar, and they take reservations. This is your can't miss "nice" dinner spot in a college town. And for the love of god, don't skip desert.

The food was pretty amazing! Our group ordered all of the side dishes (co-ops) and a few of the starters (Cesar salad, pimento cheese dip, and gnocchi). We also ordered the chocolate and key lime desserts. Everything was great, everyone loved their food, and the ambiance was upscale and yet relaxed at the same time. The wine was also good and our server was awesome! I wish I had gotten her name because she was exceptional! The only negative thing I have to say is that the food is very pricy. None of us (recent grads) could afford an entree! Probably won't go back for a while just because of the price.

I don't remember ever writing a negative review on Yelp, but if you read the rest of my reviews, you would understand why. I travel a good bit and have the pleasure of eating good meals due to my market area (work). Which is what is making me write this review in this forum. Acre needs to be the restaurant it can be. The potential is there. Open table capability (reservations), good location, valet service, good decor, excellent layout, etc. Menu is updated with the current farm-to-table fad. Everything is in place for this to be what the Auburn area needs and has needed for years. Now please add service. I understand the pool of talent with which are drawing, but you should have standards that must be met. Train them before you throw them to the wolves! This ranges from hostess seating to waiter's assistant clearing the table. None of this is happening as it should for the price that is being paid. The food wasn't even delivered to the table in sequence. Please, Acre, get it together. Be what we need.

  • Dennis T.

I loved the food, atmosphere and service. They had a creative menu. I think the complementary valet was crazy dumb. Let's let the college kid drive you car the additional 10 feet to the parking space. What?? Auburn is too small for valet parking. It only adds arrogance to the place, lose it. Edit: been a couple more times. Everything I've tried has been amazing. Changing my rating from 4 to 5 stars.

Pretty pricey and small portions, flavors were good. We were there when they were extremely busy, some of our items were cold when they came to the table. Service was not very attentive, and we did not get our appetizer until our entrees were delivered.

Best place to eat in Auburn. The menu is updated according to the seasons, the meals are always cooked perfectly and the service is great too. A must do if you are passing through.

Pretty pricey and small portions, flavors were good. We were there when they were extremely busy, some of our items were cold when they came to the table. Service was not very attentive, and we did not get our appetizer until our entrees were delivered.

Food was AUsome! Had snapper and grouper. Both solid! Service side needs a little polish, but I get that from college kids.
