so sad we weren't able to take pictures :( no battery again! anyway from the free appetizers to the dessert, everything looked good! they start u off with some bread and some crackers with either salmon paste or olive salad. both were awesome! we ordered their classic shrimp with grits, parmesan salmon, soup of the day (potato soup) and Noble salad. my husband rarely eats vegetables and he finished the veggies in the salad and the entrées! everything was so fresh and flavorful. oh and u have to try the bread pudding for dessert. we also had very good service. our server was named monica. she was the best! very attentive and gives u feedback on which ones are the best. the old lady that greets u in front is super sweet too! best part is that they're not expensive! everything was only $50 ! such a bargain for a classy restaurant!

The first time I ever dined at the classic was on Valentine's Day three years ago. It was buffet style, the food was delicious, and the price wasn't bad either! However over the last couple of years the quality seems to be going down as the price goes up... The last time I dined here I actually had to send a dish back and the dish I got in exchange was definitely not worth the price tag. I probably will not go back :(.

I put together a dinner for 18 at this restaurant. The management was extremely accommodating and developed a menu which fit the group at a reasonable price point. I personally had their signature salad (mixed greens, bleu cheese, strawberries, slivered almonds), shrimp & grits, and the bread pudding for dessert. The salad was delicious and not overly dressed. The shrimp were cooked to perfection and the grits (I am not a grit connoisseur) were out of this world good. Finally, the bread pudding (I am not a bread pudding connoisseur either) was among the best desserts I've ever had in a restaurant. Look no further if you are reading reviews to choose a restaurant - this is the one you want in Anniston!

Classic on Noble is hands-down one of the best restaurants in Anniston, if not the best. It is an upscale restaurant, the proprietor of which spent many years in the catering business prior to opening this place (according to our server). This really shows on the menu as the ingredients are of the highest quality and are prepared by what can only be a highly-trained chef. From the amazingly elegant decor downstairs to the trendy Green Olive Lounge upstairs, it is obvious that no expense was spared here. While there is no "official" dress code, business casual would probably be best; however, I have seen plenty of people in jeans and a t-shirt be welcomed with open arms. As with any restaurant you can spend as much as you can afford; that being said, the prices at Classic are affordable for the type and amount of food that you get. For example, their Signature Salad is amazing (and gluten-free) and for $8 you get more than enough to eat it as your main course. Bottom Line: Eat here. You will not be disappointed.

I have a confession: I'm a born and bred Southerner, and I don't like grits. They're soupy, sloppy, and tasteless... or so I thought. Then I had the shrimp and grits at Classic on Noble. Life=changed. Not at all like the scary grits of my youth - these were moist but not soupy, incredibly tasty, with shrimp, bacon, cheese, and tomato beautifully interwoven into the mix (I got mine without sausage.) I also got to sample the fried green tomato salad, which was divine. A new, yummy way to have a Southern staple... and these were definitely done right. Classic is, well, very classy. The decor is a welcoming infusion of old school Southern establishment and modern aesthetic sensibility. The service is on point and definitely friendly, folks in our group from Canada felt at home here as the locals did. Go for the special occasions or when someone else is treating, it's not cheap, but worth all the Jacksons you can scrounge up (just easy on throwing down the Grants, they're still a bit sore about it all down here.)

I was in town for business, and five of us found this place on Yelp and tried it out. Tuesday night in March. We arrived around 5:30, and were almost the first ones there. It looked like one or two private events were taking place while we were there. The decor is very impressive! We were seated on the second floor near the bar. The art is great and the table settings are nice. We all got the special, which was a shared appetizer, salad, and entree for $20. I think this was the last week they were offering the deal. I'm not sure if it is annual or if this was special. The options were good though. Many of us got the vegetable spring rolls. This was definitely good for two people. The spring rolls were delicious with the spicy dipping sauce. There were two salads to choose from. The Noble Salad reviewed elsewhere on this site and a Caesar salad. Both were great. The entrees ordered were chicken Alfredo, catfish tostadas, short ribs, and the famous shrimp and grits. We were so full from the other parts of our meal, but we all really enjoyed the entrees. I had the catfish tostada. It was fresh and amazing. The entrees were all big portions. I considered Classic four stars because our server was a bit uppity and did not seem to be that interested in answering our questions and helping us. The great food and wonderful decor made up for it though. We had a great time at this establishment. We got our money's worth for sure. This is a gem in this town!

One of the best restaurants in Anniston, AL. I had to try the Shrimp & Grits since it was on the "100 things to try in Alabama before you die" list. The shrimp was cooked the perfection. Plump and juicy, and the grits was so savory full of flavors mixed with bacon and turnip greens. David and Kathy (the owners) are the best and I love them! Thank you for taking care of us. Just excellent service. Talk about southern hospitality! The scallops was good as well! Most popular dish is the Shrimp & Grits, Seared Blacken Ahi Tuna, and Blacken Salmon. Should definitely try it out. Never had southern gourmet food before and it was very good. The restaurant upstairs level was my favorite. I felt like I was in a dining room at someone's home, so you get a comfy warm home feel. There's also another room perfect for business lunch and dinner if you are looking for a professional setting to take care of things. They also have a nice bar upstairs and the drinks are served stiff (how I like it). Vodka tonic was what I ordered so it was good. Would highly recommend. They also cater for weddings, and their taste is just impeccable. Love the place...

Classic on Noble is one of my favorite places to eat in town. It's one of those places where I take friends from out of town, just so I can brag that this place is near my house. For lunch, I almost always order the dill chicken salad, but the noble salad is also amazing. The fried green tomato salad is really good too. I don't go to dinner there much, but I have had some great fish dishes when I've gone in the evening. Classic has a great breakfast and has fed the board of Realtors on several occasions. The place easily accommodates large parties comfortably. The Sunday brunch is definitely the best that Classic has to offer. For around $25, you can eat yourself stupid. Everything imaginable is on this buffet. Some of my favorites include fried green tomatoes, noble salad, seafood salad, pasta bar, shrimp and grits, boiled shrimp, broccoli and apple salad and Texas caviar. One table actually features an omelet and waffle bar where a you select the ingredients and it's made fresh while you wait. Another table has kid food--little hot dogs in buns, PB&J, chicken fingers. This brunch definitely has something for everyone. A table in the rear is completely covered with desserts--cakes, pies, mousse, cheesecake, brownies, etc etc. I usually don't even make it to that table. Everything else is too good to waste space on cake. The decor is also very nice. The art is attractive, and I love the colorful ladies in the women's room so much that I made one of my own. It didn't turn out near as cute. Fresh flowers are always a nice touch, and Classic is always filled with them thanks to Evans Flowers. The are the finishing touch.

Probably the best restaurant in Anniston. It is an upscale southern cuisine restaurant with beautiful decor. The shrimp and grits (Jumbo white gulf shrimp scampied served over grits with fresh collard greens, andouille sausage, tomatoes and bacon topped with shaved parmesan cheese) is one of my favorite dishes as well as the Noble Salad. (Fresh greens, sliced strawberries, sliced apple, cranberries, crumbled bleu cheese, spiced pecans and a tangy dressing) Also good is the sushi grade blackened tuna. But I haven't had anything here that I haven't loved.

Classic on Noble is our annual holiday gathering place for the GA family and AL family to connect for a fabulous lunch. This is classic Southern cuisine, but you'll be pleasantly surprised by the elegant plating.

Great brunch buffet with such a wide variety of items to choose from!! I honestly wish I could have tried just a little bit of everything but I was stuffed just after trying MAYBE half. The decorations inside also provide a nice atmosphere. Although the food itself was not spectacular, the variation really does make up for it. In addition, towards the back there is a long table full of just cakes, pies and custards!!! LOVE! Did I mention there was a small little station where you can choose what goes in your omelet and someone makes it there right in front of you?!?! Yup.

Classic on Noble is absolutely wonderful. I've eaten here only a couple of times, but it has always been great. The first time I ever ate here, I had shrimp and grits during their "brunch". It was creamy, cheesy and devine. However I'm pretty sure they no longer offer brunch. The other times I've eaten here were for 2 years of the Woodstock 5k dinner. We had chicken Alfredo, and it was one of the best chicken Alfredos I've probably had from oxford/Anniston area. The veggies and bread were also good. The most recent time I've eaten here was when they catered a party at my past job. The salad with the strawberries in it is a must if you're going. We we also had chicken, potatoes and rolls. No complaints from me, and I have experienced their food in many different settings, every one of which has been excellent.

SUMMATION: Elegance in a marvelous historic building in Old Anniston. Enjoy the best restaurant in Anniston. Their excellence in dining, hospitality, and comfort is a treat. The value is good considering their quality, quantity, and care. Proof that Southern Gourmet is not an oxymoron. TITLE: "Southern Gorurmet" [Yelp, review #421. This review was cut down to 1/3 to post on Yelp. See complete review on TripAdvisor. FOUNDER/OWNERS: David and Cathy Mashburn [1] OCCASION: Invited for a dinner reunion by a friend after many years. WINE: Their wine list is good particularly considering the many restrictions on wines by the State. They have 2 Alabama wines including a sparkling Muscatine. Their cheapest red was only okay. FLATWARE: Heavy, high quality stainless, but not silver; good porcelain, but not China. Sunday brunch items in silver chafing dishes. MENU ITEMS: "Shrimp and Grits", "Fried Green Tomato Salad", and "White Chocolate Bread Pudding" may be their most famous dishes (We tried them all). "Noble Salad" is also well received (ordered by our host). They sometimes have frog legs and soft-shell crabs. Blackened scallops, wild Alaskan salmon [2], or Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna) also receive raves, but these are hardly southern dishes. The set menu is rather limited, but they have specials. The lack of Red Snapper, turnip greens, okra, or peaches is surprising. "Southern Chicken" is, of course, fried, not baked. Perhaps this is a restaurant in the south and not a southern restaurant? See web page menu. WAITSTAFF: Excellent, attentive, helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly, but not intrusive. SALAD: My First Mate and I split a Fried Green Tomato Salad and it was ample. FRUIT: black berries, raspberries, and strawberries in deserts. ENTRÉE: I had their fresh Gulf grouper special and my First Mate their grits and shrimp. The presentations were very good. The flavor, textures, preparations, and serving sizes were excellent. SIDES: The mashed potatoes and asparagus with the fish and the collards under the grits and shrimp were very good. SERVING TIME: very good DESERT: White cheese bread pudding (more wonderful than any bread pudding I have ever had) and fried cheesecake were outstanding and large. BATHROOM: Sort of hidden around a corner and down a hall. Adequate, clean, simple, large incapacitated stall. COST COMPARISON: A bit expensive, but the quality is worth the price. NOISE LEVEL: The restaurant is quiet with a light background of jazz music. Sometimes their grand piano is played. MADE IN THE USA: They have 2 Alabama wines including a sparkling Muscatine and a total of 37 wines from 5 US states (no Yankee wines). CONFUSION: Their restaurant and their coffee shop seem to be mixed together in some review systems. AWARDS: David Mashburn was named Good Heat Chef (2012, Alagasco); 100 Dishes to Eat Before You Die (2005-2015, Shrimp & Grits, Alabama Department of Tourism); Certificate of Excellence (2012-2014, TripAdvisor). It's relative. If I dined at Classic while in Austin or San Francisco it would get three stars. Here in Anniston it gets a bonus star. That's not a dig at Anniston, just the reality of what the dining scene is like there. What works - The venue is well done. The upstairs is refined and comfortable, the tables spread out enough that conversations don't intrude from those around you. The high ceilings and tall windows make the room feel large, yet the colors and furnishings give it warmth. The service is friendly, but isn't overbearing. I had the fried green tomato salad to kick the meal off; it was a nice combination of flavors (I got the half portion and it was large). What doesn't work - While the service is friendly they miss some details. Example - when my appetizer plate was picked up they took the silverware, yet it wasn't replaced when the entree was delivered (the waiter left the dish and never said a word). I had to wait several minutes for my waitress to drop by to get resupplied. The shrimp and grits were my choice as a main course and frankly I was disappointed. The grits were a a mashed potato consistency, the entire dish was over salted and the shrimp were overcooked. The wine list is limited. The place is worth a return to see if it was an off night for the kitchen, and frankly there aren't a lot of other options in the area. From the other reviews I'm hopeful.

Anniston, Alabama is sitting on a culinary gem. My friend and I decided to meet halfway-ish between Atlanta and Birmingham for lunch. She looked on yelp and told me to meet her at Classic on Noble in Anniston, AL. I'm the type that when I know I'm going to a specific restaurant, I want to look it up myself. So look it up I did and I was fairly impressed with the yelp reviews and the menu on their website. I saw the shrimp and grits on their menu and with almost 100 miles between me and my destination I had already committed myself to one of the '100 dishes to eat in Alabama before you die'. So a friend came with me as I made the drive and before we knew it we were parked across the street from Classic on Noble. From the outside you can see two sassy chandeliers hanging in the window, complementing each side of the tiny 'Classic On Noble' awning. As we entered a very sweet older lady with sunglasses welcomed and chit chatted with us a few moments as a waitress waited to seat us. The interior of this place is beautiful. I mean stunning for a restaurant that says it has only been opened for 10 years...10 years! While at the table our service was wonderful. There were multiple waiters making it that way, but we did have a main waitress who was very helpful. We all ordered the shrimp and grits when asked for our order, and our food came out about 10 minutes later...and it was DELICIOUS. Never in my life have I tasted grits like those before. I mean this shrimp and grits dish also has sausage, bacon, collard greens, and LOTS of cheese involved in making it a deliciously rich meal. If that all sounds good to you, I would definitely suggest your order it. The three of us also ordered and shared a dessert--the white chocolate bread pudding. Which was also very rich and ambrosial. After our meal we were told to take a little walk around upstairs to check out the space, which was just as stately as the rest of the space. As we walked out the same older lady who had greeted us when we walked in, thanked us and suggested we return for dinner. If only ma'am...if only.

Best food ever. Hands down. The lunch menu is awesome, and Sunday brunch is amazing. Definitely my favorite place to go whenever I'm home from Birmingham. Pricing isn't bad for the quality of food you receive. The owner and family are absolutely the sweetest people ever. The chicken salad and fried cheesecake are worth every penny.

I was in town for a business trip and stopped in for lunch based on previous reviews. I was pleasantly surprised by an attentive wait staff and a delicious lunch. Had a bowl of the manhattan seafood stew which was flavorful and pleasantly spicy. This was my introduction to shrimp and grits and it was excellent. Creamy and smokey, it was a fabulous lunch dish that I would recommend partaking in should you find yourself in the area. I appreciated the open space in the dining area after having many a meal shoe horned into a table in DC. Worth the stop for sure.

At least once per business trip I like to find a really nice place to dine. I travel alone. Fine dining establishments can be awkward when going solo and Classic on Noble was no exception. It is best visited with your sweetheart in tow or for a business gathering. I was seated at the 2 topper next to the main staircase (don't look up the stairwell because you will see peeling paint and water damage) on the second floor which I was told was more cozy. Not the place to put a single diner. Nothing to look at except people gathered at the bar, waiters walking back and forth, and servers carrying drinks down to the main level where I expected to sit when I arrived. It's open, airy, has large picture windows and plenty of light. Also, a large dinner party was in attendance and they were rather jovial so it wasn't even remotely quiet. I was offered a beverage. I selected unsweet tea, which is the best unsweet tea I've ever had at a restaurant. The bread was not brought until 10 minutes later by the owner, I presume, who wore black slacks and a bright purple sweater. That was odd dress that did not fit the establishment. I ordered the wedge salad, which is a fav of mine. Iceberg lettuce should be very crisp. Mine was lettuce that was not fresh. Top two layers had that limp/wilted look and taste; however the elements on top (bleu cheese, bacon crumbles and grape tomatoes) were fresh. I ordered the shrimp and grits based on reviews at this site. I really like shrimp and grits. I did not like this version. Shrimp and grits is a simple dish. It doesn't need a lot if help to taste great. This dish was over the top with extras that detracted from the dish, plus it wasn't hot; and honestly, warm grits is never a good thing. Neither is Andouille sausage that is overcooked and not hot. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and were delicious. I would have preferred a bowl of them. I took the remainder of my dish with me compliments of the waiter who kindly placed my leftovers in a proper take-away dish after putting on food handling gloves. I appreciated that service, which is long lost in today's average restaurant. Speaking of servers. My server had a dirty apron when he arrived at my table at 530pm. Maybe it's just me, but never should a waiter have an obviously dirty apron when greeting a table or serving one, especially at an establishment like this. Plus he wore tennis shoes which seemed out of dress code for such a high end restaurant. Then again the clientele that were coming and going were not dressed up either. I would suggest dressy clothes if dining at Classic on Noble because that is the kind of place this is. In fact I imagine Sunday best is more fitting. Considering where Classic on Noble is located...I believe it's worth trying. There are a lot of low end dining establishments in the area but no mid-range. This is the place to eat in Anniston all things considered.

The Menu is great and the food is delicious! You will enjoy the decor with all of the chandeliers and elegant decor... White tablecloths, and even the white napkins are fabric--- not paper! I have always experienced friendly and very professional service from their staff. It is also a place for groups dining. (Something that is an unexpected surprise for this small town) just off I-20 between Atlanta and Birmingham. Easy to find, in downtown Anniston on Noble Street.

All I can say is MmmmMmmm Good! Shrimp and Grits-wow. While working locally in Anniston, AL this restaurant came highly recommended. I visited with a coworker for lunch. Simply elegant. Although a very classic atmosphere, the staff made us feel very welcomed with their southern charm. This is one restaurant to make a point to experience. It was a little difficult to find because of the location but don't be discouraged. Eat up and enjoy! Old world charm and exceptionally friendly staff. Wish I had visited sooner.
