Great food. All entries that we've had were not only interesting, reindeer and caribou sousage, but also absolutely delicious. From pancakes to omelets we've enjoyed our breakfast very much. Crepes were great. And the lady that was servicing us very upbeat and took care of us flawlessly.

DELICIOUS caribou breakfast sandwich!! The rest of my group ordered fried fish/shrimp baskets and all agreed mine was the best. The service was less than ideal though. Servers literally didn't come by unless called on...brought our card up to the waiter while she was at the computer to have her close us out....and the staff are CLEARLY family. Rolling their eyes at each other, not wanting to help each other out, etc. Grab a drink, don't be limited on time when you go and enjoy the food!!

Eh. It was okay. I've had worse, but I've certainly had better.

The only reason this is getting more than one star is because it's open 24/7. You'll get sick 90% of the time you go. The waitress will not be inviting 99% of the time, and you'll wish you never went 100% of the time regardless if your drunk or not. They tried to be the next Sals and it failed miserably.

The only star here is for the service, which was more than adequate. My appetite however was ruined. 3/4 of the way into eating my sourdough pancakes I bit into something so hard I thought it broke my tooth. It was disturbing. I think it could be a great spot to eat but they need to greatly improve on cleanliness and put a little more effort into makine their recipes better.

Caribou could be SO much more than it is if the owner/manager just spent a little more time playing Diner Dash online. The staff are in serious need of some leadership on how to prioritize. The simple act of getting a cup of coffee can be a lesson in the art of frustration. The food is quite good. But getting it before you stroke out from frustration waiting for a beverage or utensils is unlikely. Diners might want to consider meditation before approaching the Caribou. It's a shame. The restaurant is real cute inside- very Alaska-y, if you will. Food is, by Alaskan standards, a good value-- and tasty too! I got the Irish breakfast special of Corned Beef Hash with poached eggs, homefries and Hollandaise. It was very delicious and perfectly portioned. The coffee was spectacular. But the tiny mugs run out woefully quickly. And getting a refill is quicker if you just clomp across the diner and get it off the damn burner yourself. And if you want creamer, be prepared to ask multiple times and still wait. The bathroom. Well egads. Scary truck stop horror movie bathroom comes to mind. Ugh. Regardless, I'll probably be back. It's inevitable. But if there was a better choice I'd probably go for it. But as far as Soldotna goes, the Caribou is alright. 6 of one, half a dozen of another if you know what I mean.

Have been in here multiple times just because I do not like giving up after one or two bad experiences. After handful of times I can comfortably say we will not be returning. The waitresses are very unkind and are put out an asked for anything extra. Food was very greasy. This is definitely not a place you would want to take your family. There are better places in town.

My review has one caveat: We stopped by to eat at 11:30pm. That being said, the service was terrible. We weren't ignored so much as our waitress treated us like garbage every chance she got. i.e. She brought the bill, I held out my hand to accept said bill, she drops it on the table. I hand her my credit card, she jerks it out along with what I can only assume was an effort to remove the first knuckle from my pointer finger. There were drunks in the restaurant, but no one I saw in the place was obnoxious or treating her poorly, yes, we were a large group, but we weren't acting like apes... I'm still not exactly sure what happened, but I can tell you that the food was decent, but the service was so poor that I left my waitress no tip (the first time in my life). Even my 14 and 15 year old were talking about how nasty she treated us afterwards.

All I know is that I would eat here if I didn't live so far away. Jackie is a awesome dude! His wife makes incredible cakes. There's even live music here! WOOT 5 stars baby!

Just like the Homer location, "real" open faced turkey sandwich! This is the second location, the other being in Homer. I was curious if, like Homer, this branch made their own turkey for their open faced sandwich. I was pleased to find out that they did! I'm a sucker for comfort food, and ordered the sandwich. It came with mashed potatoes and TONS of gravy, just how I like it. Yummy yum yum! It was packed since it was the peak of the Summer season, and it took forever to get my food. I took it in stride since I know how it gets here in Alaska during this time of year. I did hear a few tourists grumbling about the wait, but I just went with the flow.

Food was boarder line, something in the Ruban did not sit well. We ordered iced tea, it tasted like it had gone bad, when we asked for something else the sever said she would get glasses from the fresh batch, those glasses never came. My dad never got a refill on his coffee and no one got a refill on water, which was gone because we never received the replacement tea. We were charged for the tea we didn't drink. We had to ask for everything. To make a long story short, service BAD, food - beware, and bathrooms look like they have never seen bleach.

We came in on a Sunday morning, it wasn't very busy. We were seated quickly, order taken in 10 minutes. The food was good but the service was terrible! We asked for coffee and never received a refill or water refill until we were given our change from the bill. Won't be going back!

Sat for 30 minutes before a waitress even came to the table. Then, when I explained why we were leaving, the waitress acted like we were somehow at fault. We won't be going back.

Decent food more than offset by the worst service in the northern hemisphere. Plan on spending two hours here for breakfast; more if you don't track down your waitress to pay her so you can resume your life. They obviously survive on non-repeat business.

The second time I came here I was surprised that the waitress was able to remember my name and what I wanted. I enjoyed the pancakes so much I went with the same thing. Creature of habit, can't always be helped when you find a good thing.

If I could give zero I would this place was great when it was the bears den but the new owners don't care about anything but money

I struggle to even provide one star. Going into the restaurant with very low expectations, I was astonished how bad the food was and poorly my party was served. As a disclosure, I am from the lower 48. However, all I was expecting was decent diner food and what I received was average cafeteria food for $30 per plate. This could have been a fluke; wrong choice, bad day,etc.. I have bad meals at my favorite restaurants and I'll always give them another chance. The reason I will not give this restaurant another chance was their complete indifference to providing any sort of hospitality. We waited 15 minutes to order. We were the last to be served in our section, all of whom arrived long after us, by 10 minutes. Upon paying the bill to the general manager there was no question about my meal or service and no "Thank You." I write this review not to discourage others, but rather to alert the ownership that you are missing an opportunity to capture more of the tourist market.

My son and I went here to eat on Friday night. There were almost no patrons in the facility, and it still took about 10 minutes to be seated. After that about 10 more minutes for a server to bring a menu, and then another ten to come back for our order. I ordered a clam strip basket, which when delivered 30 minutes later the clams had morphed into chicken strips! The server said it was a computer problem. Seems to me she could have looked at what she wrote down, then looked at the plate and corrected it before serving rather than blaming a computer! My son ordered a hamburger with just ketchup and lettuce, but it arrived with mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, and onion! ABSOLUTELY the worst restaurant I have ever eaten in in 64 years. Also the dust, lemon seeds, and used drinking straw wrapper on the window ledge added a certain ambiance I wasn't looking for! Without question I would never go there again!

It looked reasonable from the outside and the parking lot was full late on a Friday, but there were no reviews. Thought we would take a chance. Bad idea. Service was worse than slow (but the bus girls were great at seating people and serving water). I think they knew we were tourists and didn't know what to do with us. When we finally ordered the food came fast but it took a while forever to order. The salad bar was skimpy but fresh. The clam chowder looked - and tasted more - like sausage gravy. We both ordered the hideously overpriced fish and chips and seafood platter (24.95 and 29.95 respectively) expecting local seafood and fresh. It wasn't. Halibut tasted frozen. Alaska rockfish was old and fishy. On the whole, it was expensive and not very good. Service lacked too. Maybe we should have had burgers or breakfast. We'll never know, we won't be back.

Ate lunch there because of two local recommendations. Burger was good, not dry but cooked throughout, sweet potato fries were crisp and tasty. Salad bar was ordinary. Server was friendly, and efficient. We will go back and try the pancakes.
