Had a wonderful lunch here yesterday! It was recommended by the Skinny Dicks bartender, just a few miles ahead coming from Fairbanks. The staff was not only friendly, but they were quick and very hospitable. The owner even stopped by to say Hi and chat with us about Denali and what-not. We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather, so we sat in their sun-room which was beautifully decorated with these colorful, vibrant hanging flower-baskets. Our server lady was attentive and conversational and a real treat. Since they are known for their burgers.. well, we had to try them, so we all got the Mondo - impressive! Large patties, cooked med with grill marks but still moist; a bit of fresh bacon and some cheese.. and then flanked by a huge pile of what have to be some of the *best* and most addicting french fries I've ever eaten (recall, I'm not a fries person)... we were all impressed with the friendliness, the food, and the setting. Highly recommend and we'd definitely come back here again.

Monderosa is known for having "The Best Burgers in Alaska" and "The Best Burgers on the Highway", so my dad suggest we stop in to try them on the way to Denali. It was fairly late for lunch and we had reservations, so we decided to split burgers. My partner and I ordered a burger with jalepenos and pepper jack cheese. The burgers came out and they looked nice and quite big. However, they pretty much taste like a glorified whopper from Burger King. They have the flame-grilled outside and a really dry and gross interior. Not medium at all, and overcooked. There was literally no spice at all and the jalapenos had no flavor. They do have nice fries though. Seriously, if this is the best Alaska has to offer I feel sorry for Alaskans as this is what a burger from the 1970s. With the gourmet burger scene becoming big, this place needs to step it up and get out of their old style box.

Good giant burger place a little ways outside Nenana. Stopped in for lunch with a coworker. I got the bacon cheeseburger with fries. The fries were crispy and delicious. The burger was quite large, with all the fixings. It was the perfect burger fix. Word of warning they don't take credit cards, but there is an ATM inside.

Darn good burgers! The place is quite rustic where the bar tende ris the waitress and also the cook. While she wasn;t the friendliest waitress, she was efficient and didnt put up with our chit chat. The food was excellent...nice char on the burgers and the fires were crispy outside and soft inside. I left very satisfied.

The Monderosa claims to serve the best burgers in Alaska. I couldn't agree more. Maybe it's the rustic ambiance of the bar. Maybe it's the kind of service that makes you feel like part of the family. Or maybe it's the quality *and* quantity of the ingredients they use in their plain jane burgers that make them so darn satisfying. Whatever it is, The Monderosa has me coming back for more. Sure, I've had burger fixes better than The Monderosa's, but not in Alaska. I find this baffling because my best dining experiences seem to lie off the beaten path. And this place is off the beaten path; a couple of miles outside the community of Nenana towards Fairbanks (look for the road sign named after the restaurant).

Great hamburgers. Good selection of toppings though the sides were just average.
