Great food! The owner is the coolest guy! Make sure you try the feta dish! Just incredible! He imports feta from Greece! Also try his Kebab souvlaki! It's as good as you find it in Greece! Highly recommended!

Unsanitary place as far as I'm concerned. The girl at the front counter took a sip of they're soda machine and didn't like the taste and spit it all back out into the machine itself. This happened like three times. Just looked nasty and disgusting when your ordering your food. The gyro, one of my favorites, was lacking something and the meat was on the fatty side. On the first night I showed up there 35 minutes before they closed and was told I could only get a pizza, what's up with that? Then the pizza after tax cost me $36 for the greek pizza. On the menu it says $27. Don't really know how that worked out to $36 after I got it back to my room. The fries that came with they gyro were good though. After the spitting into the drink machine incident, I wouldn't go back.

A most excellent Greek pizza and other authentic Greek fare. Ate here twice during our short stay on the island. Very reasonably priced considering other local restaurants' prices and staff was very courteous and accommodating. Definitely recommend!

This place is alright. We ordered pizza. Not bad. I think because we ordered large pizza, it wasnt as good. The pizza was floppy (if that makes sense). We were hungry and not to many options on the island. Usually left over pizza is good. Yea, not in this case. The staff was really nice and they were pretty busy.

Great pizza for Alaska! The Greek pizzas are very good, but we really enjoyed the simple pepperoni with a splash of cinnamon!

The gyro was nice and succulent, small appetizer portions. Burgers and other boring stuff were meh , the salad was crunchy but doused with too much dressing .

Wow. I have been here over a dozen times and it has been great every time. The classic Greek and White Rabbit pizzas are to die for. The gyros are wonderful, the chicken are good but the pork gyros are fantastic. The calamari is also very good. Ask for the napoli sauce next time. It is a tomato base sauce and I think it goes great with the calamari. Service is fast and the people are always friendly. It is nice to see speedy service again.

Vert tasty and authentic Greek food, had Souvlaki & dolmathes, both were savory and unique. My only complaint is the lack of seating, today it was too crowded to et there

This place is an absolute GEM. I didn't get a chance to try the pizza that everyone raves about, but what i did have blew my mind! For starters we had the baked feta, which was absolutely delicious and a perfect thing to share. For my main i had the halal kebab gyro (lamb/beef mixture) with a side of their seasoned fries. SO. GOOD. The meat was tender, and seasoned perfectly. The pita was pillowy, but sturdy enough to keep it all together. It was just...awesome. If you're looking for something spicy, they have this INSANELY spicy habenaro sauce that I have nicknamed liquid napalm. It's serious stuff, but it's flavorful and delicious and you should absolutely give it ago. Everything was fresh and cooked simply, as good Greek food should be. Service was wonderful and welcoming. Next time i'm on Kodiak island, you can bet i'll be at sparrows as soon as I get off that tiny little plane.

Great pizza and gyros here by a Greek chef. A little pricy, but this is Alaska, and an island to boot. It's also confusing when they are open, to this newcomer, but I've never had anything bad here!

I am Greek and have to say this place rocks. There are few places on Kodiak that are worth eating at more than a few times. All the food is good. Gyros are awesome as their pizzas! And they are next door to the local brewery. Yasou Peter

The gyros are great, (chicken and pork) they also do souvlaki and kebab meat. I held off writing a review until they started cooking their pizzas which are also good with a tasty hand made crust. They have nice salads and appetizers and the quantity of food is generous. All of the food has been consistently high quality too which would rate it a solid 4. But its the little things that bump up the star rating. First ...they source good produce and ingredients. Yes it makes some items expensive, but it also makes the food really good. They import quality Italian and greek cheeses for instance and the owners have made several flights to anchorage for harder to find ingredients. The service is always top notch. If you have to wait a bit for take out they give you water for instance, several times they have given me an item to try that isn't on the menu. I went away for a couple of weeks on a trip for instance and when I came back they gave me the pizza I ordered and a greek salad which I did not. When I asked the owner about it I was told that they appreciated my business and wanted to thank me for being one of their first customers! Seating in Sparrows is limited, however if you wanted to grab a pizza, or a gyro, or a really nice fennel salad and dart over to Kodiak Island brewery you can eat great Greek food with great Kodiak beer! Usually with Kodiak I have to equivocate my reviews ... its a Kodiak 4 for instance, meaning not as good as the lower 48 where ingredients are fresher and more readily available but its good for an island but Sparrows is the real deal and a solid 5 for anywhere because of service and attitude. And try my favorite menu item ... zucchini bites, shredded croquettes of zucchini mixed with feta and herbs, lightly battered and pan fried. Gooey when hot and pretty good reheated too.

Easily some of the best food on the island. this place is amazing, the food and the staff are just excellent! Its nice to finally have somewhere other than the powerhouse where the people making the food actually care about what they send out of the kitchen. Of the 5 or 6 times ive been so far, i have yet to be anything other than overjoyed and impressed with every aspect of my visit and food. Coming from a big city the food selection and especially the food quality here on the island has been the hardest adjustment, so this place is a huge morale booster for me. similar to the other reviews the one down side is the seating, and they have room to put at least a couple more tables, so i hope they do. If you havent tried it yet, or if you are just visiting the island, this is the place you need to eat righ now, its close to downtown, the price is very fair, and the food is awesome, you will not be dissapointed!

The owner is the kind of helpful that makes you feel comfortable in knowing that anything you order will be delicious. There are several restaurants in Kodiak that everyone we asked said we had to visit. If you're only interested in seafood then they might be worth going to but if you want food that is proudly made and refreshingly good we found Sparrows to be the place. If I had come here the first day I would have skipped the others. The prosciutto pizza distinguished itself with arugula, sun dried tomatoes, and the perfect amount of garlic and roasted almonds. As an appetizer the Mediterranean Dips was the right amount of familiar pita toppings while opening doors to new toppings. This family run business brings their passion to create these dishes from a place deep within their heritage. I'm already planning my next trip to Kodiak and Sparrows will be where I come to eat.

Definitely the best pizza place (and sandwich place) in Kodiak. Reasonably priced, in comparison to Angelo's, and the service is fantastic from what I have observed. The food is outstanding. Blows away all competition in Kodiak at the moment, and gives everyone a better option for pizza than Big Al's (which has had a sharp decline in recent years) and Angelo's (overpriced for not so great food). Bottom line: Sparrow's pizza is the best pizza place in town. The few downsides to Sparrow's are: very awkward parking situation, and there is no notice anywhere on the building that has Hours of Operation. I actually still do not know when Sparrow's opens. On a previous carry out box, the box top said it opened at 11am. On a Monday, I waited from 11am till nearly 2pm to see when it opened, and I wasn't sure it was even open for sure until around 3pm. Seems like it should open at a more rational hour. Also very limited seating. If it is a busy night, don't even bother trying to find a table.

Very good food! The people that work here are very nice and hospitable. Sometimes they don't have a delivery driver but it's still worth it to go pick something up

Good fresh food. Pizza was delicious with a tender crust. Lamb Gyro was authentic with fresh ingredients, although the meat wasn't seasoned very much. Tzatziki was delish. The only problem was the small seating area. Sparrows has a vigorous take-out business, but probably by necessity. We ordered at the restaurant and waited nearly an hour for food. A table wasn't available so we took it home. Very busy place for a Thursday night.

Two lunches - pizza, kelal kabob and Aegean chicken sub sandwich - were delicious. Great food. Best pizza crust we've had in AK. Bet dinner is good too, although we didn't have a chance to try.

The food is good and the staff can make a pizza quick. The Greek and Italian options are not authentic. Anyone who thinks it is authentic has obviously never had a gyro or dolmathes before. Although, the pizza is great and far better than Angelo's. Also, the service is outstanding. Service as a whole is terrible in Kodiak and this place steps it up. Seating is limited but it is mainly a take away place.

Simple decor, excellent service, great food. Had Halal pita w side salad, good price. Hubby had specialty pita quesadilla, which came with fries or salad. Salad so fresh and beet vinegarette relish. Lots of fries that were good w spices. Tsatsiki was good, too. Could not eat my salad because of pita was too filling and I wasn't willing to stop eating it. Others nearby took theirs, but we couldn't. Chef sent out fruit as a treat when we finished. How refreshing was that. We notice he came out to chat with those he knew, too. Very good feeling. Have already recommended to others on the trip.
