High Cholesterol at Whataburger

Calorie intake is the main concern for people with high cholesterol while dining at a fast-food restaurant like Whataburger. Well, you can always try the Lighter & Smaller options from the menu to cut down your fat intake. Opting for grilled sandwich or burgers are preferred compared to double meat or triple meat cheesy burgers which contain high cholesterol.

Foods to Avoid at Whataburger for High Cholesterol

Cut down on your meat intake to control your high cholesterol. You must skip Double Meat Whataburger and Triple Meat Whataburger at all costs. You should also avoid Avocado Bacon Burger and Monterey Melt as both these burgers contain a high amount of fat. Sweat & Spicy Bacon Burger will add extra 1080 calories in your diet so skip that as well. Whatacatch Dinner may sound tempting but the famous fish sandwich is also full of calories and unhealthy fat. Lastly, avoid French Fries and Onion Rings at Whataburger if you are already ordering a burger or any other heavy meal.

As I mentioned in another post, there are 3 places you must eat when in Ketchikan. 1) Burger Queen, 2) Ocean View (the beef fajitas!) and 3) Pioneer Pantry Cafe Any burger or fish/chicken sandwich you order from Burger Queen will be the best you've ever had! Loaded with flavor and huge in size = a deadly combo. Tons of options to mix/match condiments and add ons. Can't beat the typical cheeseburger with 1000 Island Dressing...with some sauteed mushrooms to top it off. Or the teriyaki chicken sandwich topped with 1000 Island also. You may be thinking "it's just a cheeseburger or teriyaki chicken sandwich...what's the big deal?" NO. Lemme tell you, these burgers/sandwiches are infused with yummy goodness that makes you crave for more. Even the buns are toasted perfectly and taste amazing. Furthermore, the shakes/malts, fries, let's just everything on the menu are also excellent. My niece order a peanut butter & chocolate malt and omgosh it was freakishly good. It's a small place with only a few tables but they are not short of business. Often you wait 20 mins for an order and a wait worth the while! I swear, I don't know what they do at this joint to make everything taste so bomb but it's a must try if you ever find yourself in K-town.

They have great burger. I had Hawiian burger and fries. They have excellent Season fries. Good price too.

  • James T.

I could not believe how ma y different types of shakes they had! they even will deliver anywhere in town for free. It makes drinking in Ketchikan a relaxed affair.

    (4)
  • Vicky P.

Seriously the best burgers in town!! Both the chicken and beef burgers are awesome! Their salads are also very very fresh and tasty!

I stopped in Ketchikan with our cruise and before I hopped back on the ship I stopped at Burger Queen after hearing about it from some people. Great food, nice people! They even gave me the extra milk shake in the metal cup to sip up quickly because it didnt fit in the cup! There's a sign saying that burgers take 15 minutes and they're not lying. I needed to board my ship at 2:45 and placed my order at 2:30. I got more and more nervous I was going to miss the ship and at 2:43 I decided to ditch the burger, said thanks and ran off with just my shake. As I was in line to board, I felt a tap on my shoulder and one the employees was standing there with my burger and panting! He ran after me when the burger was ready!! Talk about great service!

  • Maria Y.

Would have liked to try the burgers, but after ordering and waiting 15+ min, watching them open bags of frozen french fries and only seeing one order come out we decided to head elsewhere. BTW, when we asked about our burgers, we were treated with hostility and foul language (in front of our young children).

  • Susan C.

There's nothing special about this place, despite what all the cruise reviews and travel shows will lead you to believe. There isn't too much to do in this small town so they just tell you to go to Burger Queen--and for what? A mediocre Halibut sandwich. I'd go again if I am ever for some reason in Ketchikan, Alaska again--because what else am I going to do in Ketchikan, Alaska?

    (3)
  • Lisa W.

The BEST halibut sandwich EVER! Heck, the best sandwich ever!!! Anyone who gives this restaurant less than 5 stars has to be crazy! All the food is fantastic, but the halibut sandwich is a MUST.

  • Carlene S.

This is some genuinely good American cuisine. They have a ton of options for milkshakes and burgers. And they deliver! If I'm hanging out at the 'Dough or at Fat Stan's they'll bring it there, too. My only complaint would be that if you do get it delivered, you might have a soggy burger (but what do you expect if you order a pineapple burger??) I would bring my friends and family here any day.

Ketchikan is a town that swirls with rumors. Especially in the winter. The ships are gone, the fish are away, and locals try to hold on to a shred of sanity by going to the Monthly Grind or ranting on Sitnews about The End of All Things That Are Decent and Good. And maybe, while standing in the rain, sharing that shred of un-attributed, unlikely but plausibly interesting, piece of news. Oh -- Burger Queen. I hear they sell drugs out their back door. Of course this is untrue. They sell drugs out their front door. If Booker, the town's K-9 drug dog, took one step inside, he would sit and bark excitedly over and over. For he smells a Seattle Burger. The burgers are thick, with a nice smoky char on the outside but perfectly cooked inside. All burgers come well-dressed with onions, tomatoes, lettuce, and thousand-island dressing. A tropical burger's pineapple is nicely caramelized from the flat-top, while grilled onions and mushrooms push the meat over into happy meaty-umami wonderland; the world a-swirled in colors. Some like the seasoned fries, but I prefer the onion rings. The parmesan sprinkled on top might as well be PCP, how I go through cravings for the rings, my body rebelling with tremors. Also good are their thick shakes and their large salads. I don't care for cornmeal-breaded fish, but those who do like the halibut sandwich. Now, though a stand-out in a small town, where mediocrity is often looked on with suspicion for its overkill, there are a few things that keep this from approaching a burger's platonic ideal. The bun is your basic industrially-baked variety, a little too soft to structurally handle all the moist goodness within it. The prices are high, even for a tourist town in Alaska. They struggle with inconsistency; some burgers are glorious and sing arias as endorphins surge, others are merely good. And the place's non-descript interior, covered in atomized grease, lacks any personality. It might as well be a greasy DMV. Especially during the summer, expect a long wait. But there are ways around it. My preferred trick is to call in my order ahead of time. By the time I show up, my burger already lies in wait. Or you can pass the time in the Arctic Bar across the street, and they'll bring it over when it's ready. Regardless of how you pass the anxious minutes, the wait is worth it. Take the burger to go, walk out to the dock, and sit on a bench watching the whales waddling by. The ravens and eagles circle overhead, and you consume the sandwich knowing that a better burger may be found somewhere else, but that somewhere is hundreds of miles from here.

Thick hand-formed hambuger patties. As good as it gets in Ketchikan for sure. Staff is friendly and as speedy as possible, but due to the made to order burgers and popularity of the joint from tourists and locals the wait can be over 20 minutes.

    (5)
  • Victor C.

Gave this place a try and wasn't to pleased. It's a small place with not enough seating, which didn't bother me. What did bug me was the long wait (about 40 minutes) for my family's order of 4 cheeseburgers, one staff member who didn't seem to want to be there, and the actually burger itself was just ok (a little burnt and not worth the wait). On the upside the fries were pretty good and, well, let's see, the uh, I mean... Ok that was about the only thing that was good. Definitely no In-N-Out, 5 guys, or Fatburger.

  • Sarah H.

Best burger in town, also best prices.

If you work in Ketchikan you are probably working hard. The Super Solidarity is the reward for a hard days work on a town that will charge you $10 for a McD's special. Huge paddy, perfect sausage, great deal.

  • S H.

This is kind of an eclectic hole-in-the-wall type place which happens to be on the main road just out of the downtown area, but within easy walking distance from the docks if you are visiting by ship. The folks here were super friendly and the food was cooked fresh to order. The burgers, fries, and onion rings that we ordered were all very good and we have no complaints whatsoever about quality. Our only gripe would be that for $10.00 worth of onion rings and fries ($5 for each large order) we received a somewhat embarrassing portion size which was simply tucked into the same basket as the burgers. We joked that the "small" and "large" were actually the same except for price. Oh well. That said, if you are in the area, this place is worth the stop.

  • Ali W.

We visited as part of our cruise destination. I was super excited to not be eating on the boat. We had heard great things on yelp and from a local bar tender. We made the walk across town and made an order. I got the halibut sandwich and my hubs got the Seattle burger. We also got the fries, onion rings, and milk shake (yeah, a lot of food for sure- but we are on vacay). We enjoyed everything and the service was great. The wait was a bit long, but everything is made to order! I'd definitely recommend making a stop here if you're hungry and tired of cruise ship food. It is a bit pricey though.

  • D H.

They delivered an incredibly tasty meal to us at the bar next door, Asylum. We were in town on a cruise and tired of the mediocre food already, so were anxious to get something while off the boat. We grabbed a table outside at Asylum to soak up some sun and placed our order with the bartender - two bacon cheeseburgers and fries. The burgers were big and tasty with fresh toppings, and they were cooked perfectly. The fries were crispy and delicious. Really enjoyable. Definitely find a way to get a Burger Queen burger while in town!

  • Anthony A.

This is one of the must see and eat places in Ketchikan! Depending on the port your cruise boat comes in, it's either across the street or just a mile down the waterfront street. Definitely a hole-in-the-wall place. The milk shakes are amazing and have over 30 flavors. Seattle burger with all grilled veggies and jalapeños on it is so good and overflowing. Onion rings with ranch is really good and very fresh. Staff was so friendly, helpful and anticipated your every need. Very clean and unique inside as well. No complaints from me except they should have free wifi, but that's just a recommendation.

    (5)
  • Dean S.

They deliver! Ya! I got to Seattle burger and they delivered to Mike's elbow room. Beer and burgers thats what im talking about! Get with the queen!

  • Michael O.

We were on our Alaska cruise today and saw the reviews on Yelp....thanks all you Yelpers...great reviews were spot on. We ordered up the Halibut burger, fish and chips and bacon cheese burger....all were absolutely great. The one thing they are definitely a five out of five on is the shakes....there were around 20 or so different flavors and I opted for the caramel....the best shake I have ever had in my life.....could not believe the awesome salted caramel flavor that came out of that cup....MMMMMMMMMmmmm!!!!! If you are on a cruise stop and get to this place before you leave. They open at 11 and crew from all the ships get here so try to call in an order first and save yourself some time, but you can put in an order and go across the street to the shops then back.

    (4)
  • Cassie P.

A local favorite and cruise ship employee hot spot! Burger Queen doesn't look like much from the road but it dons up some fresh and juicy burgers!! I like things simple so I always opt for a cheeseburger- but I've heard amazing things about the Seattle burger as well. If you want to enjoy an adult beverage, you can have a seat next door at the Asylum and burger queen will happily deliver your burger to you there. You can also get wifi at the asylum, with the purchase of something at the bar. Burger queen does not offer wifi. But why should it? It's a burger shack. If you just want to hang out there, there are a couple tables inside and picnic tables outside for those nice Ketchikan days. Delicious burgers don't come fast though. Be prepared to wait 30-45 minutes for your freshly made burger.

    (5)
  • Amy K.

Good burgers. AWESONE SERVICE!!!! My halibut burger was over fried. Lots of flies buzzing around yuck! Really THICK ice cream shakes.

Hail to the Queen. Have your burger and eat it too. A local said this is the one place you should eat lunch in Ketchikan. He was right. It looks a little sketch, a little under-maintained, if you will. But, this place is permanently slammed for a reason my friends. We ordered two burgers, fries, and two shakes. And get this: the wait was 45 minutes! It's a burger joint, a chew and screw hole in the wall...on what planet does a burger take 45 minutes you ask? Planet heaven. These burgers are divine. Tasty, juicy, hot. You'd happily drown in their special sauce. Bomb fries. Yummy shakes. The staff works super hard to serve these puppies up at lightning speed, saving one Ketchikanian, and one tourist, at a time. Hug the man working the grille after you're finished with your meal. And thank him for bettering your life. Then get back on your cruise ship and realize that no burger will ever fill the hole in your soul that Burger Queen revealed to you was there all along... So sad.

This a must go to hole-in-the-wall Ketchikan locals joint. I've been coming to Burger Queen ever since I've been coming to Ketchikan... long before the invention of Yelp... Something like 14-15 years. Burger Queen predates the modern cruise ship piers and as I've noted it's a locals joint. I'd go as far as to say it's a local's local joint. This said they treat everybody well, and the place is always busy. To their credit they let you know the wait time before you order... But order... Wait outside and people watch, although their are a few tables inside. Turnover for tables is quick and it doesn't matter there are plenty of benches nearby. I always get the Halibut Sandwich, Fries & a Chocolate Malt... Always. I can get a great burger in the lower 48... But not a Halibut Sandwich! This said everybody seems happy with their food. You can tell because people have the happy fist full of burger look on their faces. If you want an Authentic Ketchikan experience - This is it!

  • Matt G.

Stopped at Burger Queen on a quick shore leave from our cruise last week. Not a lot of highly rated restaurants in Ketchikan and we were tired of eating seafood every day so this was a welcome change. The Seattle Burger was awesome, but it was even better because I had them add Bacon and Cheese. YUMMY! The shakes were also exceptional. We had the Toffee & Caramel shake. If you are in Ketchikan, AK and craving something other than seafood, Burger Queen is a must. It is very close to the dock where the cruise ships are.

  • Aaron C.

The short walk from downtown is definitely worth it. Not only is the siracha bacon burger amazing they deliver across the street to the bar. I recommend pairing it with an Alaskan brewing company white .

    (5)
  • Brian S.

We were told that Ketchikan is not known for their food ...but they forgot about Burger Queen! The Halibut burger is about as good as it gets. My fiancee got the fish and chips which she loved. the Halibut was not over breaded and the chips were perfect! I also ordered the side salad, which had veggies you would not normally expect on a salad, which was a pleasant surprise.

  • J G.

Seriously amazing burger. Fries are awesome too. We spent a week in Ketchikan and this was by far the best food. Super friendly staff.

    (5)
  • Gloria Z.

Despite it being a busy day full of cruise tourists, we received excellent service. Halibut burger is a must have; we inhaled the fries. So good! The fried halibut was perfectly fried (not too greasy). Very much an enjoyable meal. It's well worth the wait if you go there on a cruise day. Even so, the wait isn't too long. We waited maybe 30 min to receive our food during the lunch rush.

  • Tonyio C.

Thought I had found the perfect burger joint on our cruise... But I was mistaken. I found the most inappropriate business in the entire state of Alaska! As we waited for our food, we heard constant cussing coming from the tiny kitchen. A bit inappropriate with the families waiting. But once we were eating then we hear comments such as"little fag*ot" from the kitchen. We decided it's time to leave, on my way out I decided to talk to who's in charge about the cussing and comments. Was told the individual making these comments is the one in charge! Shocking a small business owner would be so vile! Bought the Burger bitch t shirt and will now use it to pick up my dogs sh!t with it. Very disappointing

First time here and I had their cheeseburger and halibut & chips. The halibut was nice and crispy and tasted great. The burger was great as well. Their shakes were ok...the coconut tasted more like vanilla but it's still a milkshake so I can't complain. Overall I'd recommend coming here.

  • Dana B.

My husband, the "burger meister" gave this 5 stars. Burgers and fries were fresh and flavorful. The service was excellent even tho it was a trying day because the power had gone out. It was so good, we left with a Tshirt for my husbands collection.

Great burgers and fries. The dining area is a little small (only 4 tables), but great food and service.

    (5)
  • Evelyn B.

They have the best burgers in Ketchikan! You must stop by and get a bite to eat if you're ever in the little city! They have burgers, (chicken or beef) beer battered fries, onion rings and the best milkshakes! Don't miss out!

    (5)
  • Lacey C.

We were on our Alaskan cruise honeymoon and asked our rainforest guides where we should get a bite to eat when we got back to the boat. They told us about Burger Queen and how they would even deliver our food to a neighboring bar if we wanted. We were really hungry so decided to just dine in the place. The service was outstanding for such a small, casual place. The girl working the cash register was so sweet and made sure everyone was comfortable and had a place to sit. The burgers we got were great and I see why people rave about this place. I wish I would have been hungry enough to try one of their milkshakes!

Great burgers. Reasonable price. It's a bit of a wait but that's because they make the food fresh so it's worth it.

Best food in town, combined with the Asylum makes this my favorite place in Ketchikan. You won't be the burgers (super solidarity rocks) and it's pretty cheap too!

  • Sarah-Anne M.

THIS PLACE HAS THE BEST BURGERS IN THE WORLD! Literally, the best burgers in the world. Two years in a row, I've found myself in Alaska (a long way from England) and absolutely overjoyed to be heading to Burger Queen. I've introduced many people to it, always telling them it's the best in the world and I have never had one person argue with me. The Seattle burger is my favourite, with onion rings and fries of course as they are an absolute must... Also, you've got to have a milkshake, they unbelievable. I usually prefer to order Burger Queen over the phone from the Arctic Bar across the road and have the 'Burger Bitch' (actual job title) deliver so I can wash it down with a beer but then one time I was in a rush so I went in to order there and grabbed a milkshake whilst I was waiting...amazing. Worth the trip all the way from England, if you ever get the opportunity, you have to go! Have one for me!

Thank you Yelpers for the tips. We luckily walked up right as they opened their doors. Now 45 min later, hopeful diners are lined up and sitting on the floor. There are just 4 booths, no tables. Service is pretty slow for a limited menu. It took 30 min to get burgers & fries. The server is good about warning cruise passengers with limited port call about the expected wait time (now 45 min!) Now is it worth the wait? Yes! Quite a good charbroiled burger in fact. As a resident of Western Washington, we are blessed with many great burger shacks. Burger Queen would be right at home there. They serve extra crispy beer battered frenchfries. So good! 5 star fries for sure. We also tried a bacon chocolate shake. Stayed thick and good long after we ambled away. Location is right next to the tunnel that you can go over, around and through. Lots of fun people watching

Not a bad burger, but overrated and overpriced in my opinion. I lived in Ketchikan for three years and only ate here 2-3 times. If you're looking for a good burger in town Rose's caboose a couple miles North takes the cake all day long.

    (3)
  • Caitlin B.

Burger Queen serves the best burger in Ketchikan, as well as some of the best food in town. In a place of over-priced Sysco food and meals-heated-to-order, Burger Queen is a diamond in the rough. It's well with the price and wait. #BURGERLIFE

Stopped here last month as in town with cruise. Like to go to local places and the burgers were great. Had an awesome shake as well. Got there before they opened and spoke with one of the workers who is a native. Very nice guy and they all seemed friendly as well. Not far from cruise terminal, so if in town, go give them a shot.

Great burgers, friendly staff. Funny T-shirts. You must try this place if you're ever in Ketchikan. Right next to the cruise docks.

Amazing number of shake flavors! I had the white chocolate and loved it. This was the best fish and chips that I had on entire cruise. This is a MUST try for the cruise stop.

Having arrived in Ketchikan, AK on a cruise ship I first noticed the Burger Queen and thought, "This place must be good, because it looks like a total dive and that's usually the type of place that has the best food in a touristy location". When the tour bus driver later mentioned the Burger Queen as his favorite place to grab a bite to eat, I was sold. The line was long and all of the seats were taken. I overheard a staff member on the phone taking an order and I even contemplated calling the Burger Queen from the line outside the building. Alas, I decided to wait my turn anyway. I was amazed by the flavors of shakes on the menu, though too cold to venture ordering one myself. I shared the halibut and chips basket with the other member of my party. A half order costs $12 or $14 and the whole order costs $20 ... so we did the math and were okay with eating from the same basket to save the money. Given that the place is called "Burger" Queen, I nearly regretted not ordering a burger. Though, I was so pleased with my food that I walked away with a full stomach and no regrets. The food was delicious.

I am stupid. I went to Burger Queen and got the Seattle burger instead of the halibut burger. Don't get me wrong, the Seattle burger was a darn good burger. But the halibut burger was simply amazing. We stopped by Burger Queen on an Alaskan cruise in July. I read all of the reviews before going. Get the halibut burger, get the halibut burger, get the halibut burger. We're in Alaska, of course I'm going to get the halibut burger. I can get a regular burger anywhere. We walked in and my husband (who was reluctant to go with me cause he didn't think a little burger place would be that memorable) turns to me "2 halibut burgers right?" Then I start wavering..."well, if you're going to get the halibut burger, I should get something different so we can try two things." After going back and forth, we ordered: 1 halibut burger, 1 Seattle burger, order of fries, order of onion rings, white Reese's milkshake. I should mention here that the staff was very friendly. I took a bite of my Seattle burger...this is a really good burger. The reviews were right. Then I try my husband's halibut burger. OMG, can I get another bite? I tried to steal as many bites as I could of his. I really should have just ordered another one...it was that good. Probably the best halibut burger I've ever had. Even my husband was impressed. Yep, I was right again...it happens a lot :). Onion rings were really good, fries were okay. Milkshake was also really good. We had read a lot of reviews saying that they would deliver to Arctic Bar across the street. We had planned on doing that, but they did have a few tables at Burger Queen so we opted for that instead. Wherever you decide to eat it, just go here. Yum.

Shame on the previous Yelp-er for throwing disdain on this quaint little place. Just like there is a Hodad's in San Diego-where everyone raves about their hamburgers and fries-and stands in line for hours to get in-so there is Burger Queen in Ketchikan. Wandering around town with my son with some time to kill, we stumbled upon the restaurant and I recall hearing some cruise ship employees saying how good the food was. Well-leave it to those indentured world travelers to know where the good chow in town is! I ordered the Halibut-and-Chips since that's my favorite fish. My boy had his usual Cheese Burger and Fries! OMG-maybe it's that fresh Alaskan air or the fact that we were both happy to get rid of our sea (cruise) legs but that food was GOOD! The halibut was perfectly fried-not greasy or burned but supremely delicious and the burger was astronomically fantastic too. After wards, full of renewed vigor and our stomachs happily filled, we were able to go tackle the stairs over at Creek Street. Tourists have a duty to try new things when they go traipsing all over a town and this is a good example of getting away from the usual tourist traps and trying some authentic food. I say: Don't miss this place and make a run for it when you walk that plank down into town-it can get busy and crowded!

While on the Disney Cruise I searched a nearby spot that I could find some great food at. I had tried other places but Burger Queen got my attention. Just the name itself told me I had to stop. Some of the DCL crew members were heading to BQ so I had to follow. I got the Burger with everything. It was so huge I had to bring it to go. My mother in law finished off the rest and she loved it. This may start a new tradition when we cruise next year.

Burgers where really good. But the best part of this place is that you can go in and order and then go next store, order a beer and Burger Queen will deliver your order to you. So now you get a great burger and a great Alaskan draft beer to boot. Cheer!

These are damn good burgers. And big. Many a time I have gone into Burger Queen thinking that I'm hungry enough for a burger and fries only to find myself wishing that the burger wasn't so damn tasty, thus forcing myself to keep on putting more into my rather full stomach. I usually have pretty good control over these things. I lay the blame squarely at the feet of Burger Queen!
