Went here with my wife had a few beers and my wife went to use the restroom when some drunk guy bumps into her. Instead of being a normal human being and just go about your business he calls her a bitch. He then starts screaming it over and over. All the bar backs and staff just stare at him with a dumb look on their face instead of doing anything. He then pushes her so I had to run over and throw him off. Basically if you want to deal with a bunch of dumb people doing dumb things this is the place for you. This is a crapy place people go just to get drunk and try to fight.

This was definitely not the busiest place on a Wednesday night, but worth checking out. As with most bars in the area, it is smokey, so be ready for that. It is a bit hard to get to with all the construction. The waitress was friendly and super attentive. Not to many beers on tap though.

Want to meet real Alaskans? Come here. Think Alaska is all about crab fishing or ice road trucking? Come here. I guarantee you won't find this smoke filled place on any tour schedules. What you will find are real every day Alaskans and cold beer. Isn't that worth sacrificing a lung? :)

Having lived my whole life in the lower 48 and being here, there aren't many selections of going out clubs or good bars but the Big I is okay, be prepared to wash your hair the next day and it's really crowded barely any seating or tables. Get there early because you will be scavenging for even a corner because it's that crowded

I can see why people like it, lots of character, but very smokey even with few people, the only Irish beer was Guiness on tap served ice-cold (which apparently its supposed to be but I prefer a bit less chilled). No one really went out of their way to be friendly, pretty much "what do want" and that's it. It is what it is, and it does that pretty good. Not my place though.

Older crowd before dark, with much younger when music starts. As an "over 40", the day crowd fit me and were very friendly to a visitor.

My colleagues from work and I head over to the Big I because it's walking distance from our hotel. God knows none of us needs to drive on a sheet of ice after drinking! We're immediately greeted by our friendly doorman Tony who's checking IDs on 60 year-olds. What's that about? In any case, we take three seats at the bar and are immediately accosted by our new favorite bartender Brenna. She is incredibly smart and it's phenomenally overqualified to be mixing cocktails. She's so smooth she'll insult you, make you a drink you didn't want or order, thank her and pay for it. The venue is a little run down but spacious. It has a juke box, live music on special occasions, free popcorn, two big screen TVs and plenty of tables. Mixed drinks are $4.50 and Alaskan Amber runs about 5 bills. No electrical outlets outside so if it's colder than -40 you might want to park somewhere else. We spent a few nights over there including New Year's Eve, which was a total blast. If you're in town and Brenna's on the clock, it worth stopping by for a few.

We came here in the dead of winter and we got a couple feet of snow that night. It's definitely a hole-in-the-wall but close enough to walk from our hotel. The waitress at dinner recommended this place over any other option in the area. We liked it but definitely weren't thrilled walking into a smoke-filled bar. We aren't used to that since the state we've lived in prior banned it! It's definitely a fun bar though if you don't have much else to choose from!

Anyone giving this smoke-filled dump more than three stars has never been out of Fairbanks. Call me spoiled but there was very little to like about this place. I've been to dives, but this place... No. Here are my pros: big parking lot; central location; military-friendly (which is also a con); outdoor seating.
