My husband and I were in North Pole, AK for Xmas (My Life "To Do" List - ) and we wanted to visit the actual Silver Gulch after visiting Santa Claus House because we always get a growler when at Anchorage Airport. Its ok but what do you expect because they're Anchorage Airport restaurant is just ok too.

I love the food and I love the beer, but the service is atrocious. Maybe the kitchen is too small for the dining room, but the food always takes a long time to emerge. It doesn't help that the servers are disorganized, like forgetting condiments and not stopping to listen to everyone at the table.

This review is not 5 starts just because I could not find any vegetarian food (maybe like 1 or 2 options). But otherwise the Beer selection in fantastic and its just fascinating to be drinking in the northernmost Brewery (if your a tourist ofcourse). I tried sampling but would definitely go for the growler if I lived there! Definitely a must try if your visiting Fairbanks.

Mostly a visit to check out the "Northernmost Brewery in America,", and as Silver Gulch is only about 200 miles from the Arctic Circle, it's hard to imagine another brewery that can top that! The restaurant is large, there's a brewery tour, and best of all, some of the beers are very tasty - I'm a fan of sour beers and gose-style, so the Tundra Apple Ale was a treat for my palate. We had tasters of a couple of others, and the prices are very reasonable if you're up for smaller glasses. Food-wise? We shared the Alaska Hush Puppies, which came in a european french fry style container (fun!) and the portion was hefty. The coconut flavor was subtle, but delicious. Unfortunately the two dipping sauces that come with it overwhelm the halibut, shrimp & coconut flavors. The Beer-Cheddar soup comes with chunks of reindeer. I think lots of vegetarians would appreciate it if this soup was offered with or without the reindeer, or you could get it on the side. The soup itself was creamy, beery and cheesy - a comfort food on a chilly Fairbanks night. Lots of locals coming in, as well as intrepid tourists savoring an Alaskan fall.

Sat here for 20 minutes before I could get a glass of water. Still waiting on my appetizer. I have been here before and they are not normally this slow.

This is the best place we have eaten yet in Fairbanks. Fox is absolutely beautiful, and this brewery is on the way. I loved the atmosphere: high ceilings, steel structure, and an old mining town feel. Every dish we ate was unique. They use a variety of flavors like mint, lemon, and cilantro on dishes you wouldn't normally find them on. The cilantro ribs and coke slaw were amazing. The pear pizza was infused with a spicy raspberry sauce. I also thought their bear was light and refreshing...Northern Light was my favorite.

Its a mediocre restaurant. Nothing special about it other than this is "Most Northern Brewery in America". We reached restaurant around 7:30 pm. There were few people but it was not full. Since it was our first time here we asked for 2 samples (and they charged us for that... This is first place where they charge you for a sample..). After 5 minutes we got out beer samples and our waitress took food orders. After that we did not see her for at least 15-20 minutes. It was a long wait before we can even order our beers. It was very irritating as our food came before our beer (we half way done with food when we received beers). In short the service at this place was terrible. The food was okay but nothing great specially for their prices. Beers were okay too. Some other breweries in AK had better selection and beers that this place.

We stopped into the Silver Gulch for lunch on Sunday. My partner got a breakfast meal but asked for no ham in it. She wanted toast with her eggs but they didn't have toast so they offered a biscuit. When the meal arrived, ahead of mine, there was ham in the dish and the biscuit was cold. The rest of the breakfast was good with heaping mounds of picante, sour cream and guacamole even though the menu didn't site it. We think she was given the wrong dish but it was still pretty good. I got the fish and chips which I thought was awesome. There were four large chunks of halibut with a tasty beer batter that was light and crispy. The coleslaw was fresh and the wasabi came through nicely but the cilantro not as much. I really enjoyed it. I'd asked for the parmesan fries but got the cajun instead. They weren't as spicy as I'd thought they would be. I really wanted the parmesan though. The food was good and the service ok. The restaurant was nice and clean inside with an open and airy feel. We'll be back to try more items on the menu.

Loved the large selection of onsite brewed beers and sodas! Many choices and seasonal features! When the root beer tap was having issues our waiter brought our driver a complimentary blueberry cream soda. We all enjoyed that concoction! Service was a tad slow... But it was Solstice weekend so they might have had some staff call in with the "solstice flu." We all enjoyed our food... I loved the Alaskan hush puppies! This place made my "must visit when I'm in Fairbanks" list!

Definitely don't see the appeal of this place other than the fact that it has no competition. The atmosphere looks haphazard and still unfinished. The beer selection is good but still not the best I've ever seen. The first time I went I ordered the Bison Burger and I can honestly say the buffalo burger from Ted's is much better and a lot cheaper. The seasoned fries I thought were going to be a winner but we're cold and tasteless. The second time we went I ordered the hush puppies to start. After seeing them on tv I expected them to be something really special but were simply $15 worth of fried dough. I got the sweet cilantro salmon and it was mediocre at best. The service was spotty both times and they charged me for garlic mashed potatoes that clearly on the menu said were included with my dish. Maybe it was just my experiences but I will not be going back anytime soon.

Okay, so this our second time going to The Silver Gulch. The first time was, well, lacking in everything but ambience. It is actually a gorgeous setup for a restaurant/brewery. The first time we went, it was brunch and the service was slow and dragging. Usually, my reviews aren't focused on the service, but I feel that this may be a trend. My thoughts are not enough servers for too big of a section. Again, this happened last night as well. I feel that he wasn't attentive because he had a lot of tables and was running around like a chicken with his head cut off. So, now for the review of the food. They got away with me not reviewing them last time, because I would have given one maybe two stars because there wasn't an one and a half stars, but I was too lazy. I, honestly, didn't think we would be back. I give it three stars three stars because the service was slightly better and the food was at least mediocre. Side note: I absolutely despise Guy Fieri. He just comes off as douchey, but he might actually be a great guy. We ordered the hush puppies and Pub Pommes for an appetizer. The Hush Puppies had a little tag about something with the Food Network, which kind of deterred me, but I ordered them anyway. Subpar. I understand it was a glorified hush puppy, but it when I what I expect out of a hush puppy is the ilcrunch and crumble. It was similar to an Asian fishball meets bread roll. The Pub Pommes? Good stuff! Everything you would expect out of a fried potato ball. Creamy and cheesy...I should have just ordered six for dinner. For dinner we ordered IPA Fish and Chips and the chicken sandwich. Maybe I just don't understand Halibut, because it was kind of dry or overcooked, but it was flaky. The batter was good and the coleslaw was interesting. I give this dish two and half stars. Not bad, but also not great. My wife ordered the chicken sandwich. Again, coming from Texas, we were use to big flavors. We recently went back to reset our taste buds, and this sandwich...well this sandwich really hit the spot. Great southwestern flavors. The guacamole, very well seasoned and fresh. Not Alaskan standards, but Texas standards. If you like Baja style chicken sandwiches, we would truly recommend this sandwich. Dessert...chocolate cake. Fluffy. Dry. Meh. Not a dessert guy. Until next time! Keep eating! P.S. We would go back to try other dishes.

The northern-most brewery in the Americas, why wouldn't I go here when I'm in Fairbanks? Our party of five took up seats at the bar, where we were ably served by a bartender who goes by the name "Ski Patrol". Beers all around and then we dug into menus. I could not take my eyes away from the Pear Gorgonzola pizza. And how could I when the menu said they included pears, Gorgonzola, bacon, onions, walnuts, prosciutto and then topped with mixed greens and more Gorgonzola cheese dressing on top. The food took a while, but we satisfied ourselves with more beer in the meanwhile. When it arrived, it was excellent. Really tasty thin crust with lots of toppings. Lots of great flavors and textures and while drinking their Coldfoot Pilsner or Hefeweizen, excellent. Silver Gulch does not have any televisions in the bar area. They also do not have a wifi network. When I asked the manager about it, he said that it was an intentional decision. They don't want people here looking at tv's or their iPads; they want people to be enjoying the beer and conversating. So there's that.

The food was good. Though a little on the greasy side. The beer was good, the apple ale was flat and they admitted it. The service sucked.

We stopped here on the way back from Chena Hot Springs. LOVED IT! The menu has a lot of really good options and after much deliberation I finally chose the black n blue burger with Cajun fries. Pros: burger was so good my bf only heard mmms and hmmms out of me the whole meal! Cons: fries were cold by the time food came out but they were still delicious! Check out the walkway because one of my good buddies built it!

On our last night in Fairbanks we decided to eat here. We ordered their Scotch Egg appetizer which had an interesting taste. We did like it. We also had their hush puppies which was really good. I had their salmon dish with mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. It was decent. My husband had one of their burgers. I want to say something BBQ?? Anyhow, it was cooked too much even though he ordered it rare to medium rare. Also the meat was just so small for the burger itself, it was drowning in everything else. I had one of their beers, I believe the tundra cider. I'm not a beer drinker so I won't say anything about that. All in all, it is bar quality food. The place is huge and cool looking. They also have a gift shop inside.

We have been traveling in our motorhome from San Diego, CA to Alaska and have eaten at many different places in Canada and now in Alaska. Today 3 couples made the mistake of going to the Silver Gulch Brewery, here in Fairbanks. The service was lousy at this place and it took over 1hr and 30min to get our food. When it finally arrived, three of us had ordered Halibut fish tacos, they were horrible and the fish in them was nowhere to be found. The other three in our party had different meals and they were decent. We complained and asked to talk to the manager. Our server told us he was busy. He finally found his way to our table, but he wasn't very sympathetic towards our complaint. If you are hungry, we definitely do NOT recommend this place!!

Not worth the drive or the money you are going to spend. Had to wait 45 minutes for a table in the middle of a yell fest whether at the hostess station, bar or in the restaurant. The tables are so close together you cannot help but be in the conversation at the next table. The acoustics are horrible. When we finally got seated our waitress didn't introduce her self or ask if we wanted anything to drink. Simply plopped down menus like we were cattle and left. 20 minutes later she came back took our order by memory and forgot what we ordered. Still no drinks just WATER. Had to get up and order drinks at the bar and bring them back to the table ourselves. She didn't even notice. Food arrives half cold, dry and tasted like the char from the grill no scallop flavor at all. The waitress did not come back till we were almost finished no other staff or owners came by to see how everything was. When she did finally ask it was only to see if we wanted desert. Well, the answer to that was a resounding NO, just the check. Then we sat at the table deciding if the waitress was getting a tip. In the end one was left, it wasn't much just like the service, food, and atmosphere. This was the third and last strike for Silver Gulch in our house. Definitely not on the list of places to eat from here on out. We should have gone to HILLTOP. Better all the way around. Thank you, PS, can you require your employees to start wearing actual pants. Leggings do not seem appropriate for a food service establishment.

Beer ,,, 5 stars Service ,,, 4 stars Food ,,, skip - 2, at best Atmosphere ,,, 4 stars Tried the salmon burger special and it was dry and tasteless. Scott had the halibut tacos and they were only slightly better. On the other hand, good service and the beer was really tasty. I had the IPA and it had a really great hoppy flavor. Don't miss stopping by for a pint or two.

The beer was exceptional. We had an Epicenter, a Discombobulator and a Pick Axe Porter: all great. Later I had a bottle of Copper Creek Amber Ale at different establishment; still great. The atmosphere was a little bland, but it was winter and it looked like most of the fun things, like an attached beer garden, happen at warmer times of the year. Service was good. We got into an animated discussion with a group of servers over the best aurora vantage points. Orders where taken quickly, beers refreshed quickly too. The food was disappointing. The I.p.a Fish & Chips was tough and a little dry; as if it was a reheat. You couldn't cut it with a fork. The Drunken Onion Pork Sandwich was better, but nothing remarkable.

Over the past five years I've been coming to this place whenever I'm in Alaska because I've always been a huge fan of the Beer Cheese soup. It's exceptional, and I haven't had too many other things on the menu that I wasn't fond of. You can pretty much guarantee that you're going to get good food here, as well as tasty brews because they have something for everyone on the menu. I recently have gone to Silver Gulch twice within the last ten days, and I must say I have had the most awful service from the bartender that I've had in a very long time. Forgetful, unfriendly, not attentive to us whatsoever. She only had about six people at the bar, including my two buddies and myself. She had to make three separate trips to get our simple three beer order correct. Additionally, after I asked for an Osculum, a great beer I might add, she placed another beer menu down in front of me, stated "did you look at the beer menu? We don't have it anymore," and walked off. Little did she know, she handed me the exact same beer menu that I had already been looking at, which clearly stated that Osculum was in stock! I was shocked! Overall, this places' beer and food sell itself. Could definitely benefit from a more friendly bar staff.

If I lived out here, this would definitely be one of my go to places. Of all the places we went to eat around Fairbanks, this place had the best food. The food reminded me of the Cheesecake Factory, which normally wouldn't set the bar for 'best food,' but Fairbanks isn't exactly the culinary capital of the world. If anything, come for the beer... It's a brewery after all. I don't understand all the negative reviews about the service. When I went the service was great and the waitress was very friendly. I could see how the waits could get bad if it were busy though. It's a pretty big space and I doubt they typically have enough staff to service the whole place if it were full.

Ended up here due to the other nearby brewery being closed on Sundays. You walk in and are immediately greeted by a touristy gift shop, once dodged the restaurant/bar area is overdone and more reminiscent of a mid range chain restaurant. Definitely lacking the normal low key, fun ambience of most brew pubs. No brewery equipment in sight. Tasted all of their mainline beers, pretty standard stuff. Our food (breakfast burger and portobello sandwich) was sub par. Bland as anything, wedges tasted like they came from the freezer section at Walmart. Some were actually still frozen. My companion didn't even finish her meal which is highly unusual. The ageing employees seemed downtrodden and miserable, however I'm not blaming my experience on them. In summary, not worth the drive - this coming from someone who never met a brewery she didn't like (until now).

Overall pretty decent. The beer was excellent, the nachos were probably the best we've ever had. Unfortunately there was a hair in my pear and Gorgonzola pizza, so I couldn't eat that, but my husband enjoyed his dinner. I was surprised that after returning the pizza we did not receive a visit from the manager or kitchen manager to apologize. I understand it happens and it's not a huge deal but professional courtesy would have brought them over I would think. Eh, well. Has a nice atmosphere. We'll try them again I'm sure in the future.

The beer selection is completely amazing and every time I come I discover something new. The food selection is typical americana style fare with a few unique surprises like pear gorgonzola pizza. The burgers are always good and the fries are even better. It's definitely worth the drive out of town to come here. If you coming with more than four people on a Friday or Saturday night, make a reservation. It fills up and there are often busses of tourists.

I wasn't planning on going here as they cook a lot with their beers but after my woworkers suggested it I'm glad I went. The guys started with the beer cheese soup and they raved about it. It was very cheesy but didn't have an overwhelming beer flavor. The "chili" looked amazing and could have been served as a meal not just an appetizer as the bowl was huge. The fish and chips were a hit with huge chunks of flaky fish and the chips were fresh cut and crispy. I had a salad with chicken, feta, mandarin oranges and a wonderful orange/honey mustard dressing. Best salad I've had in a very long time. I would definitely eat here again, but be advised that reservations are recommended.

A bit of mixed emotions here. The beer selection and tastes were AWESOME, but none of the food was all that good (scallops, hush puppies, calamari, etc). I'd give the beer 5 stars, but the restaurant 2-3 stars. I tried a couple dishes and shared with my party, but nothing really stood out. I'd certainly go back for the beer though.

I came seeking chili. I heard the Nacho's came with a bowl of it so I ordered the Celebration Nacho's. It's huge. Probably the best Nacho's I have ever had in my life in Fairbanks and I'm from here. I would have given 4 stars but the service was just so poor. 10 minutes sitting before I got a waitress, 23 more minutes until I got my drink, another 8 to get my Nachos which shouldn't take but a couple minutes to make and melt the cheese on the chips. Waitress stopped by once but didn't refill my drink. I was done but had to wait another 18 minutes for her to give me my ticket and a second chance at a drink refill. Putting on my motorcyle jacket and holding my wallet out is what I think finally brought her over. The place was not packed, maybe a third full inside. The nacho's were only an appetizer, I have no idea how much longer I would have been waiting if I had ordered an entree. If I had ordered a beer instead of tea, perhaps I would have gotten more attention paid to when my drink was empty and gotten it with the first 10 minutes of me ordering it.

Saturday lunch, 12pm. We all ordered fish and chips, which comes with cole slaw and fries (choice of 3 flavor seasonings). Loved the beer tasters I chose. Great attentive service, pleasant and professional. Glad we came before the groups. Enjoyed the classic rock sounds in a quiet restaurant. As we left, the groups arriving brought a happy and louder vibe.

Went here one day for a beer event they were having under the tent and decided to eat there too. I got some peach or Apple chicken and my husband got the steak with Gorgonzola butter. We ate ( didn't eat all of our food ) took our leftovers home and the next morning I'm eating them for breakfast and my husband's steak was raw! He ate part of it that was cooked medium well and the other was just raw and red! SUCH A TURN OFF. Make sure to check your food is fully cooked when it gets to your table!

The halibut tacos were delicious. Wife had the fish and chips which was also delicious. I'm only giving 4 stars because the service was really slow. The place was not busy at all. I'll give the server the benefit of the doubt and update review the next time we come out. I had the the coldfoot Pilsner and Fairbanks lager. Both were tasty beers. I'll come back to try more. All in all an enjoyable experience and I will definitely be back.

The Silver Gulch is a tough review to write, but here we go. To get there, it's about a 15 minute drive out of downtown Fairbanks. You'll pass old mining camps, the Alaska Oil line, and finally cross a bridge. When you get close, the Silver Gulch raises up out of the wilderness as a shiny, silver monolith. Impressive. No less impressive when you get inside. They have a gift shop off the main entrance, and a hall that opens into the main dining area. With bar seating, a central lower and upper area, and finally some additional seating in the wings of the restaurant (in what feels like an addition). Overall, the place is big and very comfortable inside. So, we were met by the hostess and taken to our seats, which were unfortunately in the 'addition' part of the restaurant. Not a big deal, it was crowded and I don't know what reservations looked like. We sat down and started looking through menus...and waiting. It was actually (almost) humorous. Our waitress kept coming over and helping people around her, but never even acknowledged us. Maybe she was overwhelmed and just hoped that if she didn't "see" us, we'd go away....we didn't. Eventually my buddy caught her eye-line and said 'excuse me', and she literally turned and walked away. What?! Finally, she returned a minute later, welcomed us, and asked what we'd like to drink. We all started with water while she explained the specials and told us about the beer. They have a pretty great selection of beer, and large number are brewed at the Gulch. For $1.75-$2 you can get a sample of any beer (I think like 4 or 5oz). So I ordered four of those and everyone else just got a standard beer or a root beer (which may have been more expensive than the beer). Inspired by Guy Fieri, we tried the hush puppies and also got the artichoke dip for appetizers. I really would have expected the hush puppies to have more meat, as that's kind of how they're marketed. That said, they were still good and came with a trio of sauces. The artichoke dip was very good, but came with too little bread. We would split each flatbread slice in half, and still had a lot of dip. We all had some variation of halibut, I had the fish and chips. They were good, but they were also fairly pricey. I probably ate to much appetizers, as I could barely finish my meal. All in all, food was good. But I wanted to like it a lot more than I did. Food coupled with the waitress, I would probably have given this place two stars. I just REALLY wanted to love it, and was disappointed. The saving grace is the beer, it's fantastic. Too bad the place is a decent drive out of town, because I could drink that beer all night. Great varieties, all of them awesome. From the very heavy porter to the IPA, none weren't good. The smoky beer is wicked smokey, so be sure you like that! If they had a hotel, I would have stayed there, so that I could drink beer all night long. Is this place worth another try? I'd certainly give it at least another chance to earn that 4th or 5th star. The beer makes it worth the trip, hopefully the service and food were just a fluke.

Really? Guy Fieri cam here? Why Guy, why?? I have to say, I am not impressed at all by the food or service here. Also, the decor, just does not go. I know the brewery was here before the restaurant, but you should not be able to tell that is was an "add on" I ordered the Potato Encrusted Halibut, and the Hush Puppies appetizer. The hush puppies are ridiculously overpriced for what you get. They were all bread, no fish and dry. The Halibut was just OK, but not worth $30. The only saving grace is the beer. I highly recommend the Below 40 Stout. So if you are looking for food, this is not place to be...but they do have a mean Stout.

Expectations? I went to a family bar yesterday and it exceeded my expectations for what I got for the almighty dollar. The service, the food, and the preparation of said food were above my expectation. The silver gulch was far below my expectation. Was the food fresh? Yes......here we go. My ratings: 3* The salmon dinner, overlooked on the outside, perfect, inside, nice large tasty piece. I am guessing a cooler but longer cook would have procured a more tender , evenly cooked piece .The vegetables were mass produced, other menu items have the same vegetable. I liked that they were not cooked into submission, still had some crunch, and while a bit spicy for my spouse, I liked the flavor. The rice, seriously cooked to death. You know how when you cook rice too much, don't use enough water, and then let it sit on a warm stove for an hour, and the top gets hard? Guess what, the rice had hard dried up chunks, was so dry that I had a hard time swallowing it, I even choked at one point not being able to swallow it, and got rice up my nose that took me an hour to sneeze out ( I do not claim to have class) I was looking at the menu to see if the rice was a regular accoutrement, and noticed that my salmon was supposed to come with a choice so rice OR garlic mashed potatoes......awww maaaaan, I wished I had beed ASKED! I loved garlic mashed potatoes.......we'll get to the server later in this review 4* Side salad with ranch. Met expectations. Nice greens, some descent tomato chunks. 2* halibut! nice sized piece! presentation excellent! but cooked to dry! For $30.00 you'd expect it to be cooked by an Alaskan. The sauce was too salty, we thought that more tang and less salt would have complimented the halibut better than salting it up. 0. The service, apathetic from our server. Having lived in bethel, Aniak, Fairbanks, dead horse, soldotna, I am fully aware that alaska does not have a great girl / guy ratio. Me thinketh the manager hired her to bring the guys in, not to be sociable, accurate, offer choices meals were to be offered with. She had to ask my wife twice what we ordered, spent more time drinking a soda than paying attention to the patrons, and being available to order from. Thinking was a challenge for her. So, the service detracted from the meal by eliminating my garlic mashed potato choice, and having to hunt her down to order a before meal side. So, certainly good food for Fairbanks, but I frequently have fish cooked better in Omaha

Good food. Gawd awful service, for timeliness. The waiter was as helpful as he could be, I think. The waiter does not control the output from the kitchen. Our experience is similar to Cory's. We went for dinner. It took us 45 minutes and a few tables turning over near us that were empty when we sat down, before 2 of the 8 of us at our table decided to ask for the manager. Meanwhile, a waiter for another table fell and spilled French Fried potatoes coming from the 1st to the 2nd floor. The serving actions, for the other tables did not slow down much and the taters stayed on the floor,(all the workers and waitstaff just stepped over the mess) for at least another 30 minutes until one of us advised the manager that the taters on the floor were a safety issue. Duh........ I would have left if I had been driving. Alas, I was not. Neither the food nor the beer is so exceptional that customers should except this level of service. Summarizing, the manager's explanation was "growing pains". She was new, hired in last 2 weeks, so she said. Also the business is expanding so fast, that the kitchen is understaffed. Wait! Us customers can help solve this problem. Just stay away until they can work out the kinks. If the process is broken, fix it! Please. If you must go, do not go on a near empty stomach. Eat a snack before going to dinner. (Life is full of irony.) The cheese soup is excellent. Ask for a cup instead of a bowl if you only want a reasonable amount. The portion sizes tend to be huge. Unless you are a big eater, consider sharing meals, especially if you are a tourist like us and want to taste more that a one main entree.

One of the best places in FBKS to eat. Quality, quantity, and affordability all decent. The brews are fantastic. Wait staff has always been professional & courteous. Atmosphere and decor is what you'd expect from a quality brew pub.

I'm apprehensive about giving anything in Fairbanks five stars. Let's be honest. It's Fairbanks. Compared to the multitude of restaurants I've been exposed to in the other places I've lived, it really can't compare. This place is getting five stars though. The food is good, probably one of the better places in Fairbanks, even if it is a bit expensive. But to be honest, food in Fairbanks is just plain expensive. The last time we went, we split the chicken wings, onions rings and pub pommes to start. They are all really good (but the wings and rings were better). They have some tasty and spicy dipping sauces. I also tried their chili. Which they call something else because they claim it has too much meat in it to be chili. But it's chili and it's pretty decent. The pizzas are pretty fantastic. But I've eaten other things on the menu, and they've been good as well. The beers are very nice. A big selection of beers brewed on site and other beers both domestic and imported. They will do them in pints or as a taster if you want to try a few before settling on a final drink. Why five stars? Well luckily the last time we went, some family friends were with us and they know one of the owners. He took us on a tour of the brewery. Which was pretty awesome. Just the six of us on a tour. He was an amazingly nice guy and gave a great tour. So I admit we were lucky, but I had such a great time it just has to get five stars.

Went back here during Spring Break while visiting my sister. Sipped on my sister's Barley wine... it was awesome!! Definitely recommend this! The taster glass is super cute too (yes, I said it...). The service was TOP NOTCH. They may have changed the management since I was here last, but our particular waitress was amazing. She was super attentive and friendly - really great customer service!! So I forgot my ID and, at first, was bummed about it - but had the chance to taste their blueberry cream soda! Unique flavors and quite yummy if you like sweet drinks! The food was amazing as usual - their salad was fresh and a big portion, their salmon was well cooked, and their seafood sampler had tons of different fried seafood - what's not to love about that?! If I lived in Fairbanks, I would have definitely invested in a growler to bring back because this place is worth visiting regularly! Check it out, please!

Came here with a group of 7 we were seated and had drinks very quickly. Our server was super friendly and patient. Most of the group got fish tacos which were greatly enjoyed though one complaint of them being too spicy. I had a pizza with pear and arugula which was decent but lacked flavor. My husband enjoyed his burger and fries. Clean bathrooms and though a bit pricey I find the food portions worth the price.

Have dinner here everything I'm in Fairbanks. Generally get the fish and chips but have had the burgers and they are pretty good, but have had better in the lower 48. I have heard the fish tacos are good here. Beer is good and at $4.50 per point the price is reasonable.

Okay, obviously great beer but what else? Wait- back to the beer. Fell in love with the light butterscotch flavor of the Copper Creek Amber and the light chocolate taste of the Pic Axe porter. The Fairbanks Lager tastes slightly of coffee with a very fast finish on the tongue. Northern Light was a lemony delight, almost like champagne. The Snow Hook IPA had a great balance and was super easy to drink. I had the Mediterranean pasta dish which weirdly came with a pretzel. Yeah, I need more carbs with my pasta and beer! My partner got a classic burger which was large and hearty.

Checked this out mainly for brews. But stayed and had the nachos. Being from Texas, have to say one of the best presentation and flavor nachos I've had. The beer was awesome and enjoyed visiting with the locals and a few of the "volunteer" brew staff. And my wife was happy that they had scotch!

Came out here expecting a great Alaskan experience to show out of state family, but overall wasn't impressed. The server was nice but horribly slow, whenever he came out instead of checking on all tables he would check on one or two while we were left waiting for him to come back around multiple times. It took over 2 hours to have dinner, that was way too long. The food was average and overpriced. I had a pizza which was tasty but needed more cheese, a few spots were sauce only. The burgers my family ordered were both cooked wrong :-( disappointing and since we weren't checked back on in a timely we didnt get them fixed and they ate them anyway. The chocolate cake dessert is very dry but the bread pudding is great. I wouldn't visit again

We checked out this place after hearing so many great reviews from people and it definitely lived up to our expectations. Service was fast even though we didn't have a reservation. I got the ribs and they were to die for! Hubby got the fish and chips and they were also really good. The beer was awesome and I like that they have sampler sizes.

Had dinner here and liked it so much we came back to try there Sunday lunch. The atmosphere is slightly upscale for a brewery/brewpub but the food and the service are top notch. We had the salmon for dinner and it wasp prepared beautifully, the breakfast burger was a little more cooked than I requested but was delicious. The fries that came with the meal were well cooked and nice and hot when they got to the table. We sampled several of there draft beers and found all of them quite good. This is someplace I would be happy to visit again or would not hesitate recommending to anyone who asked for recommendations in this area.

It was ok. The food needed salt badly! The beer soup gets a 5 stars. Everything else a 2.

For being so highly reviewed this place is a joke. We had a reservation for 3 people that we were on time for. The service was the worst I've ever experienced. You would think that as a brewery they would be quick to bring out their libations and proud to tell us what they offered but that was not the case. We didn't receive our drinks for 45 minutes. When they were brought the waitress didn't pause to take our order. It was an hour before we were able to place our food orders. We never got silverware, napkins, side plates or water. It was like a free for all. It wasn't lack of asking for not receiving these items either. Another server ended up bringing us water two hours after we sat down. They were out of a number of things. I had to order my third choice meal because they were out of the first two. When our food finally arrived two hours after sitting down it was good. I had to wait another 10 minutes for the sauce for my sandwich that it was missing. The tables all around us were experiencing the same pisspoor service. We were never asked if there was anything that we needed. We had to track her down and ask for more drinks. We were continually told that we would be helped "in just a minute" and that she would be "right back" We asked to speak to a manager and it took over a half hour for him to come over to us. We were given a dirty glass on top of everything. I don't want this to reflect badly on the kitchen because the food was enjoyable. If you are trying to choose between this place and another, go with the other.

Paid to get in for Beatles review. Inefficient service.understaffed. long delay for food and drink. Mixed up order. Horrible planning for trying to host so many people. Walked across the street to get food.never again.

Every time I come here the seating is a mess. No one was here and it took the girl awhile. Once you get seated the service and food and beer are great! We came for brunch today. It took 45 minutes to get our food. My sons pancakes were still doughy my biscuits an gravy were pretty good but way salty. My husbands burger was like a hockey puck served on a bun that's was soggy on ones side and harder than the back of my head on the other. And the service was horrible. Slow, misunderstandings, and no one was here!

  • Pamela R.

Our wait time was 45 minutes as to be expected on a Saturday night. Service was slow, the food was good and they have a fabulous drink selection. The scotch egg is a must try and if you love hard ciders try JK's Scrumpy cider.

  • Deb G.

Decent food, but overpriced. I split the seafood sampler, which had a variety of fish, shrimp, fries, and coleslaw, with a friend. The fish was quite good, as was the coleslaw - when was the last time you had wasabi coleslaw? Cool. It was all fresh tasting, too. The service was nice enough, but slow.

This is one of the best places to eat in faibanks, everything I've had there has been good and all of it is cooked how it is supposed to be, all the beers I've had have also been good, now for the bad news, when we go there, and we don't go often enough to know their schedule, if I can't sit upstairs, I leave because it is way to noisey to sit down stairs

Bottom Line - There really is no excuse for luke-warm food coming out of any restaurant kitchen, especially if it's deep-fried. The menu looks like it has a lot of potential, but what I got was totally unacceptable. Maybe this is more of a burger joint. The beer variety and quality, however, were supurb. I have to start by saying that the star-rating I'm giving is solely based on the food, and not the service or the beer. My coworker and I are visiting for work, and came for dinner on Monday, 4 April 2011. We decided to sit at the bar, and ordered the following: Pub Pommes ($8.00, panko breaded potato balls with cheddar cheese, bacon and green onions, served with jalapeño-ranch dipping sauce) - I didn't like this at all. The inside was cold. It basically is a stuffed potato mashed together and deep-fried. What bothered me most was that it wasn't hot even though it was deep-fried. How can that be?! It wasn't worth $8, and definitely would not order it again. Beer-Broiled Shrimp ($14.00, half pound of peel and eat shrimp, dry rubbed with Cajun seasoning, garlic and lemon zest. Served with garlic bread) - The sauce was a bit too salty, but otherwise this dish was fine. I probably wouldn't order it again but only because the I don't think the dish is worth $14. Porter Beer Cheese Soup ($7.00, Creamy beer-cheese soup with reindeer sausage, served with a hot pretzel) - My coworker ordered this and I had a taste. You can really taste the beer in this soup, and they don't skimp on the amount of reindeer sausage. We did order a cup of this soup, but were charged for the bowl ($2 price difference). IPA Halibut Fish & Chips ($21.00, fish fillets battered in tempura. Served with cilantro/wasabi coleslaw and house fries) - I was not a fan of the halibut pieces... they were totally frozen halibut (you can tell because the flesh of the fish is a bit soggy and grainy). The halibut probably isn't a good choice for this dish, maybe stick with the cod if you order this. I thought the batter was way too salty, and not crispy enough. The batter was a bit too soggy - maybe it should have been fried longer. I would NOT order the halibut for this; actually, I'd not even order the fish & chips again. However, the fries were excellent. This is the ONLY dish that came out hot. Along with a soda ($2.00), a lager ($4.50) and two samplers ($1.75 + $2.00), our bill came to $58.25 + 16.00 tip = $74.25 total for the two of us.

Beer selection 5 stars. We love porters & stouts. Good selection and new ones we've never had. Meantime & -40. Great flavors Nate, our waiter - could not have been better. Very personable, knew about the beers, made great suggestions, etc Food. The Pear & Gorgonzola Pizza was great with a coffee flavored stout - think Meantime. Weird, but try it. You'll love it. So with the Black & Blue Buff Burger. Wonderful flavor (just skip the red onion - too overpowering). Cajun fries seasoned just right! Wish we had come here in the first couple of nights we were here. Definitely a want to come back place. Food was a bit slow, but hey, this is Alaska in the middle of winter -- too cold for a Floridian to want to rush out....

It's a little out of the way but it's so worth the drive out there! First off it is a brewery so naturally they have an outstanding beer selection but aside from that the food is actually very good also. I ordered the rib plate and you could literally pull every bone out of the meat, it was so tender and very flavorful. You have to give this place a try!

Great beer, but a pretty miserable dining experience on a busy Saturday evening. I was really stoked to check out "America's Most Northern Brewery" just outside of Fairbanks, AK. I had already sampled some of their beer which I found at a supermarket in town-- quite good! Unfortunately our experience at the Silver Gulch brewpub was not only less than stellar, but really pretty awful. Saturday evening: the place is packed. There's a wait to be seated. No problem; we're given a pager and some time to browse the gift shop while we wait. About 20 minutes later the electronic gizmo flashes and vibrates and we are shown to our table. This is where the experience goes sour. The table we're seated at is on the upper level right next to two very large children's birthday parties. The noise level is almost painfully loud, and we're forced to endure it for FAR too long due to the ridiculously slow service. Every step of the process seems to stretch on for eternity (including waiting for silverware and napkins AFTER the food has finally arrived!), exacerbated by the fact that several requests went unfulfilled the first time around and had to be repeated. I understand that the restaurant is really busy and the waitress is overwhelmed, but perhaps they should have been more prepared (I'd imagine the large parties had reservations, right?). The food wasn't bad, but it was overpriced for what it was. $13 for an order of hush puppies? That's deep fried cornbread balls, right? The seafood platter was pretty disappointing for it's $23 price tag too. The drunken onion pork sandwich was fairly tasty and a better value at $13 for the meal, but it was barely warm when it arrived. If I were in the area again I'd totally stop here for a beer or two-- but I'd eat elsewhere and give the place a wide berth if the parking lot is full.

Best beer around hands down. Service is lacking but that seems to be pretty standard for Fairbanks. Go with the pepper steak...you won't be dissappointed.

The bad service just irks me. Came to the place at 2:00 when it was a not even a quarter full but didn't get seated for 15 minutes. Then it took 20 minutes to get our order in (2:40) and that's after I flagged the waitress down. Food didn't arrive until 3:07 and that was after I flagged the manager down. I had to send back my drunken onion sandwich back because it was cold (don't recommend it either). The only thing this place has going for it is the beer and that's if you can get a bartender to serve you!

My husband and I constantly went on dates here while he was stationed at Ft. Wainwright. Probably the best beer in the state and some of the most innovative entrees. I highly recommend their creme brulee.

Number One recommended location by locals. Had the potato crusted halibut and it was simply one of the best fish dishes I have ever had. Perfectly cooked, flaky and the cream sauce with little bits of scallops was incredible. Cream sauce was not heavy and the beer selection is phenomenal. Service was a little slow, a couple times asking for silverware and refills ignored once or twice, but overall, highly recommended.

Really like their beers and the food is pretty good too considering how far North this place is. A bit out of the way, but I think it is worth it. Love that the fill growlers too. Take some for the road.

Went here with coworkers during a work trip. It was a weekend and it wes fairly crowded and busy. We did have to wait a while in the bar area, but found solace in the great beer selection. I tried a few, including the Barleywine... it was outstanding... and STRONG as hell! We had the Scotch Eggs.. which were a bit odd.. and our entrees which were not really memorable. I'd say the food was standard, nothing extraordinary... at least the beers were good. Oh yeah and I got some nice souvenirs here.

This is by far my favorite place to eat in Fairbanks. I've heard complaints that it is too pricey, but I think that's mainly coming from people who are unfamiliar with Fairbanks prices in general. The food is spot on, the wait stuff is very pleasant, and their microbrew beer is excellent. It seems steep for one egg ($5), but the scotch eggs with moosetard are amazing and a local favorite. Be sure to drop by for Oktober Fest - by far the biggest crowd I've seen yet in Fairbanks. I'm fairly sure half the city turns out!

Definitely one of the best places in Fairbanks. While, it is overpriced, there is a good selection of food and the beer selection is great. I had a banana nut bread beer that was amazing! I also sampled some of their blends, which were good as well. I plan to go back soon! *Their artichoke dip was extremely creamy; it was really good!

Every time we come to Fairbanks from Portland, we have to make a stop at Silver Gulch. Their beer is good even by Beervana standards. 5 stars We ordered the hush puppies because they looked good with halibut and shrimp. Wrong! We could not taste either in the doughy but perfectly fried ball. 1 star. Liz, our server was friendly and attentive. 5 stars. However speed of food delivery was slow. 2 stars. My wife ordered a drunken onion pork sandwich. She gotta huge amount of pork in the sandwich, but it looked like it had been boiled in water. Sea salt fries were fantastic. 2 stars. I ordered the prosciutto wrapped scallops. Excellent; four perfectly cooked scallops on garlic mashed potatoes and very flavorful vegetable medley. 5 stars. Overall, I could only give 3 stars primarily because of the slow preparation of food causing service to be very slow. Also please improve the hush puppies to be less doughy and have a taste of halibut and shrimp. Several complained of the cost. That is unfair considering the distance food has to be shipped.

Located 10 minutes outside of Fairbanks this little gem is home to the brewery and a restaurant. It is a nice atmosphere with groovy servers. Lots of big windows and tables. We dropped by for a pint and an appetizer. We ordered the Copper River Amber, a coffee stout, and the kiss of shame (the name was actually more dramatic but it meant this). We tried the celebration nachos, and it didn't come with salsa so we asked for it. It was more of a hurray than a celebration, and there were more small tiny chips that was probably the dregs of the chip bag. It was an okay time to hang with friends tipping back a pint.

Evolution of My Experience at Silver Gulch When I lived in Seattle: Wow!!! This place is pretty cool! I know if I lived in Fairbanks, I'd eat here all the time! Immediately after moving back to Fairbanks: Wow! Did they raise the prices, or am I misremembering that they were sort of affordable? Can they really charge this much for just-okay food? [The answer is yes - this is Fairbanks, a captive audience] A year ago: Wow. Seriously not as awesome as I recall. But at least the beer is still really good! And the servers are enthusiastic ... if sometimes forgetful. I'm going to keep coming here because it seems like it should be really good despite a growing body of evidence to the contrary. Maybe I'm just being too critical - it's me, right? After the fifth bad food/service/experience in a row: IT'S NOT ME, IT'S YOU. SILVER GULCH, YOU HAVE BETRAYED ME FOR THE LAST TIME. Last week: I lied to you Silver Gulch; I can't quit you. Your beer and french fries are too tasty. But that's it - you can't fool me into ordering anything else. Ever. Unless you pretty please please try to convince me that you could be just as awesome as I once thought you were. Pretty please?

This place is just okay. The atmosphere is great, and the bar area is super comfortable and quaint. We tried about five of their beers, an ipa, porter, cranberry something, and two others I can't remember. The porter was really the only one that was pretty decent, the rest were meh, and the cranberry one I couldn't even swallow, it was awful. Service was friendly however, and their blackberry creme brulee was pretty darn good. Not terrible, but not great, again, just okay.

Was in Fairbanks for work and saw this place profiled on Diners, Drive-In's and Dives so I decided to give it a shot. My colleague loved the beer. I loved the cheese soup and we both loved our fish and chips. He actually got fried shrimp and I got fried cod. Everything was tasty. Our waiter was a bit of an oddball but he was nice enough. I got the spouse a beer glass as a souvenier and a cozy sweatshirt for myself. If I ever find myself in this part of the world again I'll definitely go back.

Sunday lunch and there were 5 of 20 downstairs tables filled with people. They must be used to Sunday service because they have a brunch portion of their menu. Anyway, it's kind of in the backwoods of Fairbanks, AK which is already in the backwoods. That's a compliment....I like the backwoods. The hostess was super nice and sat me at a bar table at my request. There was a waitress and a waiter on hand and both seemed to be very attentive...my waitress was and she was very nice. There were two managers walking around with their thumbs in their asses. Ordered a salad.....a SALAD and it took 30 minutes to get to my table. 3 Diet Coke's later and the fancy grilled chicken salad with nuts and coconut and mandarin oranges, etc, arrived. It was delicious. I initially thought to myself, "$17 for an effing salad?" But this thing came out and it needed it's own table. Enormous. I'm giving two stars for something that is obviously wrong with the management and/or the kitchen. Every table was waiting excessively for their food. I overheard at least two tables get an appology from their wait staff but yet the two managers never engaged with the customers and never did anything other than walk around. I would expect that they would either engage with the waiting customers or get in back and start dropping fries, fish, and flipping burgers to get out of this 5-table rush that they had. Unfortunately did not have a beer. I'm on a diet and it took everything I had to not try a beer off of their extensive beer menu.

First - yes, it is worth the drive from Fairbanks and is immensely popular. There is often a bit of a wait for a table (20-40 mins) during busy periods (every night in the summer, weekends at 7:00, etc..), but I never have a problem finding one or two seats at the bar (full menu service) nearly immediately. Service is fair, but inconsistent. It appears that the wait staff/bartenders have a high turnover rate. Beer is alright for me, others think it's great. The Old 55 is a local favorite, but I usually stick with the 'lower octane' pilsner. Great bottle selection (for Fairbanks) of tough to find beers (European, etc..). You will not find a Budweiser here. Food is inconsistent. The 'bar food' is great; think cheeseburger, pizza, halibut tacos, and fish&chips. The dinner entrees are so-so at best, especially for the price. A salad is not included. If it's summer, there is outdoor seating and an occasional event, like beerfest, and if the sun is keeping you awake - check out the Howling Dog Saloon afterward, located directly across the street. If you are looking to drop some coin on a fancy entree, you might pass on Silver Gulch and check out somewhere in town. If you're looking for a social environment (it is loud inside) to grab beers and a burger with a few folks - you found it.

For Fairbanks this place is pretty awesome there variety or microbrewes are tasty and not to offensive and the atmosphere is relaxed and great for get together. There probably isn't many other places around like this unless you go to anchorage or the lower 48 I recommend giving it a try samples are always free.

3.13 stars. Came here for dinner after our day's mushing experience and you guessed it, more beer. I'm not really a beer person, but the beer's so good in Alaska (as it is in Seattle and Portland, OR) that you're crazy not to indulge. That we did. Place is a large standalone facility out in what appeared like nowhere. Tons of patrons packed the place. Complete with gift shop that sold brew memorabilia from shot glasses to embroidered fleece jackets. We sat at the bar and started with their hush puppies that came with a few dipping sauces. My friend ordered this one and to be honest, I wasn't thrilled about them or the sauces. Very average: 2.5 stars. I ordered their Drunken Onion Pork Sandwich (3 stars) or Pork loin roasted with Moosetard, and topped with sliced onions and apples simmered in Pick-Axe Porter. Topped off with a slice of Smoked Gouda and Pub Sauce. The pork didn't quite cut the mustard (or moosetard here) as it was a bit dry and maybe too lean. The beers here are plentiful and not bad either. Nothing really stood out, so I'm gonna give their brews a 3.5 star. Service wasn't rude or unruly, but just average and unassuming: 3.5 stars. The building and high ceiling interior is probably the most impressive find here. Tally: Hush Puppy: 2.5 stars Drunken Onion Pork Sandwich: 3 stars Beer: 3.5 stars Service: 3.5 stars 2.5+3+3.5+3.5= 12.5/4= 3.13 stars.

Pretty good place! The beer is pretty solid, appetizers and main courses are really good. Only reason I didn't give them higher was that I have found the desserts to be somewhat lacking, and service is slow about every other time we come here. Other than that, a great place for hanging with friends and having a drink and something to eat!

We were recently in Fairbanks for a day, and had time to check out the Pipeline from the viewing spot along the Steese Highway. When we got back into the car, and looked at a tourist map, there was a point on the map that appeared nearby, and said BEER. Intrigued, we went! We found ourselves at Silver Gulch Brewery, and had beer (Scorched Earth-seasonal) and an appetizer (onion rings). Both were great. The food, drinks, and atmosphere of Silver Gulch are worth the short trip out of town!

Good grief! Who knew Fairbanks was hotter than the surface of the sun during the summer?! I did not. Silver Gulch Brewing is a nice place to wile away some time, enjoying a beer in their nice outdoor seating area. We arrived for dinner and were seated very quickly... alas, that is where the speed ended. I am not sure if they were down a server or what, but taking 45 minutes to get a beer is a bit out of hand. I am not saying that our server was bad (she was nice enough to explain that they were really busy and she was working on getting our food/beer out as fast as possible), but still! Just because you tell me it's going to take a long time, doesn't mean I am okay if it does! I kid you not, we had received our meal and were halfway done with our food before our beer came out. I had the scallop salad (which was really tasty) and I had the cherry ale (also really good). If the service had not been so slow, I for sure would have given this place one more star. But, alas... it was not meant to be!

The quality of the beer, food, and direct waitstaff was great. The ding-dong hostess that didn't offer us a high chair though we had a toddler, or even give a smile or welcome, left much to be desired. And the process of getting a growler filled and given back to us was horrid! Waited 15 minutes, and after an obvious miscommunication between the gift shop staff, they pointed fingers at each other like high schoolers, and offered no apology, but plenty of lip. I know we'll be back, since we actually live here and appreciate the brewery, but I sure hope they can all get their act together and act as if they actually want us to be there.

Worth checking out if you are in the area. The gold mine tours are around the corner. I stopped here twice during a three week business trip to AK. Food was average but the beer selection is unique. The spectrum of their locally made beers are broad enough that you should be able to find one you like even if you are picky.

Stopped here on the way back up the hill to Cleary Summit, 3/15/2011. Earlier that day on a flight to Coldfoot our pilot had a burger for lunch, so I already had burgers on the brain for dinner. The employees at Silver Gulch were friendly and helpful; the waiter recommended the BBQ burger with cajun fries, and both were delicious. Also enjoyed the atmosphere; this was a nice place to relax after a very full day. Hope to dine here again. Definitely recommend!

After asking the locals where to get some good beer and food, several of them recommended this place. We drove out from Fairbanks which wasn't that far at all. Great place, very good halibut n chips and fresh brewed beer! Worth the drive. We will be back. Stop by the Alaska Pipeline on the way out, kinda neat! Service was good too! :)

Great place for brunch! We came in on a Sunday and I was excited to try out the Miners Skillet which is potatoes topped with ham, mushrooms, eggs, etc. Delicious! Who knew Fairbanks would have such great food? Prices was reasonable (for Alaska). It wasn't crowded at all for brunch and service was just fine. I didn't get beer but rather iced tea. All in all a great way to close out the weekend in Fairbanks!

Me and my husband really wanted to like this place, I wanted to give it at least four stars the first time we came here..but I am glad I didn't...after this second time, we were just not that impressed. Let me start by saying that the service we had received from this particular waitress was nothing short of horrible. I understand it's a busy night, but ya didn't have to go and forget about us all together! We saw her only about twice the whole night and that was to basically take our order and drop off the food, nothing after that! We actually had to physically hunt her down after waiting for about 20 minutes AFTER we had eaten to get the check. We were sat outside next to the shuffleboard which has about 10 kids running around and screaming. One of them actually almost hit us with the stick on accident (really, why are you sitting people so close to this?) On to the food...we had ordered the "Nachos" which was just chips with dried up cold cheese on them placed around a bowl of chili like substance that had a terrible taste to it, it just didn't sit right. We shared a Drunken pork sandwich with Wasabi coleslaw which was bland and had a weird fishy taste to it and the french fries that came with this was laughable (only about 6 fries -_-). Before you go off labeling us off as food snobs, their is a silver lining to this horrible dark cloud, and that is the Asiago Ale Dip which is fantastic! Great flavor and taste, comes with soft and warm pita bread and just about the only thing saving this place from a 1 star review. To top off this night, my husband had ordered two drinks, the mojito and the bloody mary. He said that the mojito was alright, just slightly over powering in taste. But the blood mary was just a bloody mess. It tasted like shrimp juice, next to no vodka and to top it all off, their were PITTED olives inside! He almost chipped his tooth on one of those bad boys! We had high hopes for this place and had really wanted to like it...but after having such terrible service and terrible food....sadly to say we will not be coming back..and to top it all off TONIGHT WAS OUR WEDDING NIGHT!

I want to give Silver Gulch 4 stars but they lose half a star because they're out in the middle of freaking nowhere, and they lose another half star because I was super unimpressed by my burger last night. I would expect the burgers to be great but my Stout BBQ burger was dry and pretty average. I wish I'd ordered the onion and pork sandwich instead, that one's a winner. Or the portobello sandwich which is equally as delicious. Also if you're planning on coming during the dinner rush, expect to wait a really long time (last night we waited an hour). I think they do reservations, it would be wise to call ahead unless you don't mind waiting at the bar for your table (you can also order your food at the bar). All that being said, I feel like this is one of the few places I've eaten at in Fairbanks where the food is pretty close to being worth the price you're paying for it. They've got creative entrees, many of them with an Alaskan twist. It's definitely somewhere I would take friends if they came to visit me here.

Hands down, the best choice in (okay, around) Fairbanks. If the wait is long, the bar area provides excellent service for your meal. Don't want to sit at the bar? Friendship tables are first-come-serve. Never had anything here I didn't like- soup, apps (hush puppies are a fave), pizza, veggie platter, mushroom burger, and dessert (bread pudding is the BOMB!), Husband raves about scallops, steak, burgers. Order the beer sampler to discover your fave; fair warning- it may be a tough decision! Beautiful views on the drive to/from Fox. If you are hosting out of towners, the best pipeline view/photo opportunity is smack in the middle of the drive.

I'll give it two stars because the food was really good. But that was some of the very worst service I have ever experienced. Would it kill you to smile? Or are we such a burden to the hostess and server on a Sunday afternoon that you must be rude. Awful just awful.

We had a good dinner, Cajun halibut sandwich and oven baked club sandwich. Good beer. Slow service.

The service was painfully slow. My fellow chowhound and i ordered salads. We must have waited 30 minutes for the salads. We asked for more dressing and waited another 10 minutes. We ordered dessert and waited another 15 minutes. I forgot to mention there was only 1 other occupied table. Don't think you can come here, eat and leave in an hour. Good thing we had no other plans tonight. The salads were definitey not worth the price we paid for it but it was edible.

Great local beer, ESP. Their seasonals. Some of the best food in Fairbanks as well. Make sure to try whatever they have currently on cask!

I guess the beer is decent for Alaska (if you want good beer, go to Oregon), some of the food is fairly good, and a couple of their desserts aren't bad, either. I do like their root beer, too. This place, while not great by any means, is a safe bet.

They were playing the Dead on the stereo; a good first sign. Ended up here by accident and I'm glad I did. Started off at the bar with a Copper Creek Amber; very smooth and delicious. The bartenders were happy to supply samples of some of the other beers which led me to glasses of their Snow Hook IPA (had a caramel taste) and an Old 55 Pale Ale (a little light for me but smooth). They also offer a wide varety of other drinks that they don't make. For dinner, I stuck with their Copper Creek Ale and ordered an Asiago Ale Dip with homemade flatbread as an appetizer. Shared it with my friends and it was loved by all. I actually could have just eaten this for dinner and been satisfied. For the main course, ordered the Miso Honey Glazed Strip Steak with Garlic Mashed Potatoes. My oh my, it was good. The steak was bigger than I expected and exceeded the tastiness which I've come to expect at other places. Very impressive dinner. When in the Fairbanks area, the Silver Gulch will be one place that I must visit for dinner. Even if you don't like beer, the food would make it worth the 20-30 minute drive from Fairbanks.

Came here with three friends. We didn't wait long for a table but we were placed in a corner with really tight seating. The kind where you have to tuck your arms against you and don't want to move your chair too much because you might hit the folks behind you. Needless to say, I requested a booth. The staff was accomodating and we didn't wait long for our booth. Ordered a beer sampler, barley malt, I.P.A. halibut & chips, a buffalo burger and cordon bleu. While deciding beers for his sampler, my friend paused at times during which the staff member informed him that she had a lot of other tables to serve. His pauses weren't abnormally or unnecessarily long, so I felt that her comment was really rude. The beer sampler and barley wine arrived quickly and was decently yummy, but the food took forever. We must have waited for possibly 40+ minutes and the place wasn't particularly busy. We received our food and dug in! I always look forward to the IPA halibut and chips but this time was a bit disappointed. I never thought that I would have regrets about ordering this dish, but this time I did. I enviously eyed my friend's burger and I NEVER order burgers. The fries were delicious but could have been warmer and the halibut portion shrank. Whereas the fries once accompanied the halibut as a side dish, it now seems like the halibut is a side to the fries. I believe the batter has changed too ... less crunchy and battery. It was more stiff. It resembled more of a "skin" than batter. I can normally taste the I.P.A. flavors but this time, it was BLAND. The fish itself was okay .. decently moist but a bit dry. The cole slaw had a nice bite to it because of the horseradish. Whereas the quality once legitimized the cost, the current dish is overpriced ($20). The chicken cordon bleu came with veggies (red peppers & zucchini) that are baked in the pizza ovens. The chicken was dry and we found something similar to bunched hairs (eww!) in the cordon bleu. The buffalo burger was a good size, but could have had more bleu cheese (and spread more evenly) and less onion. The overall meal was good. The restaurant is pleasantly lit and the interior is nice. Service was fairly ok ... water was filled promptly and the waiter even asked if we wanted separate checks. Silver Gulch offers a nice dining experience, perhaps one of the best in Fairbanks; however, the quality has gone downhill and the prices are no longer justifiable. Silver Gulch is overpriced. I used to look forward to going to the Silver Gulch but unless the food quality and overall service improves, I probably won't be back for a long time.

I can't say enough about Silver Gulch! Wonderful craft brews made by Silver Gulch and an extensive craft beer menu with beers from across the world. The modern, cozy atmosphere is a great place to enjoy a meal. The menu offers everything from pizza and burgers to seafood and higher-end entrees. I thoroughly enjoyed the halibut tacos. The halibut was grilled fresh and tucked into pillowy flour tortillas and then stuffed with fresh cabbage, pico de gallo and a zingy crema sauce. The tacos came with a brown rice pilaf that included some pico mixed in to keep the Mexican food theme. It was also served with fresh crisp tortilla chips. Delicious! I also sampled a side salad that had the most wonderful ranch dressing and a scallop wrapped in bacon. Everything was fresh, cooked perfectly and had wonderful flavor and quality. The beer was tasty - I tried the Pickaxe Porter and wished I could have brought some home to Arizona. This place would be great for meeting friends or having a nice little date night. The service was good and the servers were all very nice. I would definitely check out Silver Gulch when you are in the area!

Outstanding selection of their own and draft beer from USA and other countries. We enjoyed the Pork sandwich & beer battered rock fish & chips Service is good and the it is an easy drive on a nice four lane road from FBX.

My wife and I went there on a whim. We were seated promptly but it took our server over five minutes just to acknowledge us. Turns out she was training a new server. Drinks came out quickly, and the beer was tasty. My wife had a sandwich and I got the beer cheese soup. Well, when the food came out after a twenty minute wait the beer cheese soup was cold. The long wait and the fact the food was cold coupled with the fact we were the ONLY table in there is just unacceptable. The staff was apologetic and rectified the situation by promptly getting me another bowl that was piping hot and tasty! Overall, good food but highly over-priced.....

Great food and the employees are very friendly. We've had Kimmie as our waitress twice now and she rocks. Kind of expensive, but you get used to that here. We've taken the kids and never had any issues.

It is definitely over priced. The interior looks great. But the food tastes just OK. I bet you will like the beer. The service is good though. Plus it is quite a drive to the place.

We had to wait way too long for our food and when it came it wasn't good, some over and some under cooked. Servers clueless and unapologetic

One of the nicer places in Fairbanks. It doesn't look like much on the outside but the inside was impressive. I had the lowbush cranberry Belgian brew. It was sweet and fruity, just the way I like it. The artichoke dip appetizer was tasty too. The bartender was very friendly and helpful. There is a nice lounge area that was great for a relaxing conversation over a few beers.

I really enjoy Silver Gulch. I would say that at the moment it's my favorite place in Fairbanks. Their beer is pretty great and their selection (outside of their own brews) is good stuff. We've been a few times and had an assortment of things on the menu. My favorite would be the nachos and the calypso chicken salad. Both really good choices. It's a little pricey but most things in this town are a wee bit over priced. I've also had the fish and chips with halibut. This was also pretty tasty but I'm not sure I would get it again because it was overpriced for what you're getting. On another note we had their brunch. I'm not a bloody mary fan but theirs was tasty. We ordered a blueberry sweet roll and that was just amazing. Enough to share for a table of 4. The breakfast itself came out cold. Which was a big bummer. I would say that every time we sat in the dining room we've had terrible service. The service has definitely affected our food. We've either waited too long to order or waited too long for our food. So we opt to sit at the bar. That generally is decent service. So if you can avoid the dining room you should.

Fantastic local brews and a great selection of other fine beers as well. Food is delicious but expensive. Service has always been friendly if amateurish at times. I like this place a lot, and it has no equal in Fairbanks.

We liked the place and the beer was very tasty. We arrived at the end of the dining shift so that may explain the lackluster greeting. Service was average overall, waitress was very friendly. We only had 2 beers, the Stout and the Porter. Our tastes leaned towards the porter, the Stout was a bit fruity for out tastebuds but both were crafted well. We purchased a growler of the Porter and are trying to stay away from it till after lunch on the next day. The beer cheese soup was dense but well liked. The pretzel that came with it was a nice touch and prepared well. Caesar salad was average but nice portion size. The carne diavolo pizza was done well. I would have rated the place a bit higher if the service effort was equal to the food effort. I don't expect perfection. The food was creative and you can see the effort, the service (with the exception of the waitress serving the last table in the restaurant) does not reflect the same effort. Minus service, it's a 4 star rating.

What a gem in the middle of nowhere! I wish this place were a bit closer to society, I would frequent it more often. The seafood alfredo was excellent, service was decent. I'll take friends there when they visit from out of town. It's a nice experience.

I couldn't decide between two or three stars. The beer was exceptional so I'll go with three. We were pretty excited to try out the Silver Gulch brewery & restaurant for dinner after a long, cold day of burbot fishing in Fairbanks. The gift shop located right inside the front door was so cool & interesting-looking that we went right in rather than having dinner first. I'm not much of a sovenir tshirt buyer but I walked out of there with a shirt, a coffee mug, a pilsner glass, and a bottle opener/magnet. Our server was really nice & competent. The beers we tried were awesome. I especially liked the Weird Beard I ordered. Unfortunately, the food was not up to snuff. I ordered fish & chips and my friend got the seafood pasta. The waiter told us we were in luck because they were out of regular fillets of halibut so they were subbing in halibut cheeks at no extra charge. Unfortunately the fried halibut cheeks we got were way over-fried and dried out. My mom ordered the beer curry chicken thinking it might be on the lighter side (she's on a low cholesterol diet) but no, the chicken had been fried first then covered with a curry sauce. They should really mention on the menu that the chicken is fried. It was also so overcooked that she could barely cut into the breast. She tapped on it with her knife and it made a knocking noise. I should say that it was Super Bowl Sunday when we visited so maybe the good chefs took the day off to watch the game? They don't have their prices posted online so I can't remember exactly how much everything cost but it was all pretty pricey -- over $20 per plate -- so we expected more from the food. The beer exceeded our expectations though so I can't help but keep on likin' them.

Really good food and beer. It's about 10-15 miles outside fairbanks, but it's worth the drive.

I love this place!!! The food is great, and the environment is totally Alaskan and awesome. I would recommend it to people with kids, family, by themselves even! Fun bar and great wait staff. I've enjoyed every experience there!

This is my 2nd review of food at Silver Gulch. This time tried the Golden Ale Battered Shrimp ($22 for 13 shrimp with fries)-- a little spicy with a very light batter. If you want good food, try someplace else. Son and husband enjoyed the beers, though..... :)

This is a great place to gather! The beer is yummy, service friendy, and always lots of locals make for good people watching. The food isn't bad but it isn't the best either. The Pub garden salad is sad and I've had better salmon in the states. Appetizers like the Scotch Egg and Tomato Ale Battered Onion Rings are good and tastier with a beer to wash them down with. This place is not disappointing and it certainly worth a try if not just for the variety of local brews.
