Excellent food, friendly and knowledgable waitstaff. The chef is kind and graciously willing to work with special requests. The calamari appetizer is delicious I highly recommend this restaurant for a date night, it's cozy and intimate.

The gnocchi is incredible! The food is good, prices aren't too high. My wife liked the food too and when we're in the mood for Italian food, we try to make it to the Villa.

I'm glad I took the recommendation from a friend and tried the place out. We were seated right away, but there was quite a bit of lag time between courses. Overall the food was pretty authentic and delicious, a little on the expensive side.

Dinner party for 6- celebrating engagement and Valentine's Day. One of our party ordered a halibut dish that did not arrive until over 25 min after all other meals delivered. There was an apology by server, but no offer to comp the $32 entree. We had ordered 2 bottles of wine and 8 beers- when final bill arrived we were charged for 3 bottles of wine and 11 beers?!? Table next to us was occupied by a couple who had ordered 4 glasses of wine but were billed for 7 glasses.... Something stinks in Little Italy. Overall, Food was tasty- but I will not be returning.

This place could have had 2 stars, but the service and portions sort of made up for it. That said, portions are pretty decent. Service wise, we weren't rushed, servers were attentive, good job on the upsell for after dinner drinks and dessert. However, the overall authenticity of the food was lacking. I had the Carbonara, which was very disappointing. Actually, highly disappointing. Where I was hoping for a rich sauce from the egg yolk stirred into the hot noodles, And nice chunks of pork either like a speck or pancetta. I was sadly instead given something like a Chicken with Alfredo sauce. My co-workers also received some less than ideal dishes. While edible, they were way over-sauced, and the sauces themselves were nothing more than something I think I could get out of a store bought bottle.

I'm not big on Italian food as a rule, but this place pretty much blew me away. We ordered the beef cordon bleu, eggplant parm, and a kid size spaghetti and meatballs all to go. The food was FANTASTIC, all the way down to the potato/creamed spinach side you get with your dinner. The only thing that seemed to be missing was fresh bread which you usually get with most Italian dishes. Perhaps they don't serve bread with all their entrees, but I'd be more than happy to try their garlic breads. Now if only the prices were a little less steep so we could eat there a lot more often lol.

I have been here several times for special occasions and have never been disappointed! Their steaks absolutely melt in your mouth and their desserts are so delicious! The staff has always been top notch. I always bring my visiting family here when I want to impress! ;-)

From the outside it doesn't look that great but on the inside it was very clean and nice. All of our entree's were amazing and the waiter was so polite. The best part was the owner playing acoustic guitar that topped off the ambiance. I would come back again!

We came here for our anniversary, we did not feel rushed, we were very comfortable taking our time to enjoy the meal. We started with the pan fried calamari, which came in a generous potion, with big meaty strips in a light batter the seasoning was perfect, I was dissapointed at the cocktail sauce that accompanied the calamari. if I were to go back I would request marinara sauce. My husband had Veal Marsala, which he enjoyed. I had the Shrimp Oscar which was very rich and delicious, however there was no asparagus on the Shrimp Oscar. I thought all Oscar dishes were topped with asparagus? Both dishes were seved with a side dish of oven roasted potatoes and creamed spinach with pine nuts.

The single most overrated restaurant in town. My wife was born in Italy. We know what Italian food is. We even understand that Italian food in America is going to be a different beast. We are fine with that. This restaurant is all show and the food is a real let down. The prices are insane. For what you are getting it should be 1/4 the price. I think Anchorage has grown up around this restaurant and it has such a good reputation from being the only game in town for years, but come on...Anchoragites have traveled now. We know good food. This is way overrated cuisine that was created to make a profit not a smile.

I have seen this place for years, but never tried it until my most recent visit to Alaska. My party ordered the gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce, seafood linguini, and the special cod encrusted with macadamia nuts. We also got a red wine. Everything here was good! The only thing that I didn't like was the sauce that accompanied the cod. The gnocchi's texture was nice and smooth and the sauce complemented it so well. The linguini and plenty of different kinds of seafood and just well made (shrimp, crab legs, scallops...). The cod was perfectly cooked and tasted great (w/o the sauce, which was a little too acidic for me). Our server was this friendly, cheerful lady and just did a great job. The rest of the staff was super friendly and kind-hearted. I just want to ask myself... why did I discover it AFTER moving away from Alaska?!?!!

Fantastic, hole-in-the-wall, homemade Italian & Greek. Wow! They made us fresh Tzaziki with mint that was better than anything my family has ever had ( my wife is Greek!). Leigh, our waitress was delightful and spent time talking about Anchorage with us. Nice wine list. Vegan friendly. Looks like a dive outside, tastes divine!

I use to go here all the time. Their calamari is amazing! They use to be my go to place but seem to have gone down hill a little over the years. I wouldnt mind going back and trying again since it has been a couple years since I have been. It is small and quite which is nice. They service is great. The deserts are also amazing!

As our group of four sat next to a cold exterior wall, waiting for 45 minutes for our spartan salads, the words to describe our horrible experience with this place were forming in my mind. Then, after an hour and fifteen minutes, our food was served. I had the lamb osso bucco and it was the best I've ever had! It was served with perfectly roasted potatoes that were crunchy on the outside and creamy inside. The creamed spinach had a couple of nice additions: pine nuts and small champagne grapes. The service was average, the salads were not worth the additional charge, the calamari app was very good, and the main dishes were wonderful. I think part of the problem with our long wait for dinner had to do with our early eating hour. We had reservations for 5:30. There was one other table ahead of us that waited forever as well. However, once we were served, it seemed that the rest of the tables got their food pretty quickly. I think that the kitchen just needed some time to hit their stride, and once they did, things moved at a quick pace. If you eat here, go during the middle of the dinner service and not at the start. Were it not for the deliciousness of the main course, I would have rated Villa Nova a solid "1".

I LOOOOOOOOVE this place! It is impossible to have something bad here. The calamari is a good appetizer to start with. The chicken piccata and frutte di mare is delicious. Also make sure you check their specials, I've had them on more than one occasion. Impressive wine list that included a bold, rich Montepulciano. Not having Italian wine in this restaurant would be a sin! Sometimes service can be slow and infrequent, but it's never to the point where you get seriously annoyed. I also think this is the place where one of the ladies of the restaurant makes Tonia's biscotti which I love with my coffee. She sells it at the Anchorage downtown market and Cafe del Mundo.

Favorite restaurant in Anchorage. When we are looking for a special meal, it is almost always our first choice. Occasionally we pick another spot for a date or dinner with friends, but we usually end up wishing we had just gone to Villa Nova. This is by no means fast food. Prepare to spend a few hours eating, drinking, and talking. It is very cozy there and the staff are courteous and helpful.

Stopped in here for a quick bite to eat around 7 on a Friday evening, and we were seated immediately. The food was good, the portions were large. But the service, while polite, was not fast. Also felt the prices were a bit high. That said, if you want a good meal and to take your time to eat it, Italian style, Villa Nova is a good place to go. You won't be rushed at all. The table next to us had finished their appetizers before they even ordered their main meal. I had the Chicken Parmesan with pasta, which was a large portion and pretty darn good. My buddy had a pork schnitzel with cabbage and potatoes, which was also a good meal selection, and a large portion. NOTE, while the Yelp name says "Villa Nova Restaurant & Pizzaria," they do NOT have any pizza!

Had the best supper Tuesday night! We were early, I was hungry for spaghetti and chianti. The supper hit the spot! Our waiter, Jay was great. He helped us decide on the wine and choose the appetizer, a delicious, fresh bruschetta. It was perfect. We are returning with our family this week. Fabuloso!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
