Friendly. Cute. A bit Pricey. You'll get a decent sushi roll from the super friendly staff at this hole-in-the-wall sushi spot, but you'll pay for it as if you're in a classy restaurant. The staff was very welcoming, accommodating to my food allergies, and even offered me a free sample of a new salad they were thinking about introducing. This is a great place to stop into for takeout sushi, or if you're by yourself or with one friend for a quick bite. Otherwise, it's very small.

I got takeout from this place tonight. Prices were expensive, but that's kind of par for the course in Downtown Anchorage I suppose. I'm not sure what was wrong with the salmon, but the texture was absolutely horrible. Usually salmon sushi melts in your mouth; this had a rough texture, almost as if it had been frozen and hadn't entirely thawed yet. This was a problem with both the salmon top on my one roll and the spicy salmon in my other roll. I had a few bites of each and then couldn't finish. It was just kind of gross. Which is a bummer, since the meal cost me $30 and I ate maybe a quarter of it.

Urban Sushi is an amazing & precious place. Right across the street from the Hilton downtown, many of us visiting for a conference went to eat here and fell in love with this place. The fish could not be any more fresh! And as a family-run establishment, it felt nice to support it. Very good customer service!

Dropped in on a Sunday afternoon. We were the only 2 people in the place. The lady who was doing everything was nice, with her being the only one there things moved at a snails pace. The food.... 2 different rolls, 1 order of gyoza, 1 tuna poki salad, 1 canned soda pop, 1 cup of hot tea. The Sushi was small, not terribly well made (fell apart) and the taste was nothing to write home about. The gyoza was frozen and from a bag, and the tuna poki salad had a very small amount of tuna in it. The hot tea, was a bag of tea in a cup of hot water. All this for the price of $58.00, not worth what we got. So, for my money, I will go elsewhere.

I can't figure out why people say the food is bad? Best sushi we had in all of Alaska. The girlfriend roll was amazing, as was the volcano and the Las Vegas. Prices are high, but that's just Alaska for you. I would definitely recommend this place!

First impression: sticky tables, sticky menus, cluttered feel, but friendly. No alcohol prices, beware, $7 for a bottle of beer. Food: ordered sushi and sashimi, size of portions was mediocre, freshness was poor quality. I am eating food again, but this place gave me some serious squirts. Don't go here. It's overpriced and it did not sit well for me. Not a fun early morning on the can.

Whoa this is gonna be a short review..... I knew we were in trouble when I saw a can of Red Bull tipped over in the sushi case. Oh my god this place is absolutely filthy. I mean truly disgustingly dirty. I refuse to eat in a place this dirty so we left after a few sips of water...seriously it was that bad. What did it for me was when the "sushi chef" touched the register, menus, water pitcher, microwave, entry door and dipped his hands in water and went back to sushi making. Sorry after witnessing that we were gone. Glanced at the sushi menu and was surprised by the outrageous prices. Never got to try any of the salmonella encrusted sushi dishes.

This is a place worth missing. I doubt the validity of the reviewers who gave this place five stars they must be phoning it in from somewhere outside alaska. The service wasn't great, but that's not really a problem for such a small place. This place cleanliness is in question. There was crusted food on the menu. The windows were unwashed, but were cleaner then the tables. The food was flavorless, with the exception of used oil on the tempura. I had an oil sheen on my plate large enough that I could see my face in. After not completing my full meal I felt sick to my stomach.

The girl was sweet. Right across the street from the Anchorage Hilton. Got several nigiri, and the quality of the sushi was bad and the presentation was sloppy. Furthermore, the sushi chef was taking poor care of fish. Bad sushi is a waste of fish. Simply terrible.

So my friend informed me that today was National Sushi Day (in Japan), so what the heck, let's celebrate and honor that in Alaska as well. I figure that in Alaska, they have an abundance of fish, so what better place to eat raw than at a sushi joint? While the soft shell crab appetizer that I ordered was from the lower 48, and it had way too much batter on it, my main entree, the Chirashi, really blew it away for me. The fish melted in my mouth -- the salmon was amazing, and all the other fishes (the white ones) really melted in my mouth as well. I gobbled down the entire huge plate without regard to the fact that I'm about to go eat dinner. I'm stuffed, but holy mackerel that was amazing fish!

Got suckered into this place by the 3 positive reviews, maybe Anchorage is just not a sushi town? You can get such great seafood all over the place in AK I would have thought that a sushi would be rolling strong. First off this is a fancy roll place - it's run by Koreans, that can work out OK, I've been to some good Korean run sushi places in other towns, but if you're after proper sushi look elsewhere. Prices are extremely high, a local beer bottle, nothing special was $16, the Sashimi combo was $24 Kind of steep and the quality and presentation was pretty rough. Unfortunately they did not make up for it with service... it was slow there was sufficient staff, but everything my miso soup, chopsticks, dumb free salad, was late and or arrived out of order with the main. OK whatever, it's not the end of the world, just a meal I regretted.

Yay, brand new fan. Came here and sat at the window overlooking 3rd ave. Got the code red role, the FBI roll, tempura shrimp, kirren, sapporo, and sake. I had really nice time at this tiny shop. It is very small, and some lady told us to be quiet as she was alone and cranky. Of course you'll overhear other people's conversation. Can't really get away from each other, there is no where else to go.

Not impressed. I got the Sushi and Sashimi lunch. It was overpriced ($28) In regards to both the quantity and quality of the product. I also had digestive issues after eating here. Perhaps that was a coincidence. I am not likely to eat here again.

Just ate spicy tuna and unagi here and i cant figure out for the life of me why people are giving bad reviews. Quality was great, prices are on par for any sushi joint outside of japan, and the guys are very polite and talkative. Felt cozy and small, which is exactly what you want out o a sushi establishment, makes it intimate. Which is what sushi is supposed to be. Loved it, it is worth NOT missing!

I am from the Seattle area where we have a lot of Sushi Choices. I was not sure at first going in. It was not very busy however I am very glad that I did. The women who greated me Jenny was very nice and helpful. The sushi was delicous and fresh. I would recomend Urban Sushi over other Sushi places I have tried here in Anchorage.

I am from the San Francisco Bay Area, where we have several outstanding sushi restaurants, among others. The Urban Sushi Spot is perhaps the most amazing sushi I have ever had in my life. This is not an understatement. Their service is impeccable, their prices reasonable, and their sushi is absolutely AMAZING. Three of my colleagues and I went to the Sushi Spot for an appetizer and ended up gorging ourselves on their amazing offerings. The rolls and nigiri were the freshest I have EVER had. We could NOT be more pleased. The next time I find myself in Anchorage, I will seek out the Urban Sushi Spot for all three meals, and I know I won't be disappointed. They even accommodated two of my colleagues who wanted to try halibut. Even though they didn't have it on the menu, they found some, and made my colleagues' day. I look forward to coming back to Anchorage and visiting the Urban Sushi Spot again soon! Give it a try and you won't be disappointed!
