Ended up here because it was close to my hotel and I was tired. Worst Chinese food I have ever had in my life. They forgot to deliver dinner for one of the three people at my table. Will *NEVER* go back, would not recommend to anyone.

Not only the worst Chinese food in Anchorage but the worst I have ever had in my life. The exterior of the building was inviting and as you walk in you see a banner of excellence for their food and cooking experience. My experience beg the differ. First the lo mein noddles were spagethi noddles (they tried to pull a switchyroo on an asian person, big mistake!). Second cabbage soup is not the same as hot and sour soup. Third the food was cold and the rice was old. I spent over $100 on cold, nasty, and fake noodle Chinese food.

My favorite place to get Chinese food. Quick, delicious, our must eat whenever we go to Anchorage.

Great food bad service. Didn't ask if we wanted a drink so stuck with water. Two of us eating brought out one plate had to wait about 5 minutes for the other one. No receipt just walked off

The Mongolian Beef & Teriyaki Chicken was out of this world amazing! I'm very picky about Mongolian Beef, hard to find a restaurant that doesn't smother it with onions, this was very meaty and yummy! Was delivered when they said. Seven other co-workers order too and all said it was the best they'd had. No wonder why it was voted Best Chinese Restaurant in Anchorage. I won't go anywhere else.

The food was barely edible. That's about it. I ordered it because I was stuck at work. Didn't come with hot mustard or chop sticks.

We discovered this restaurant several months ago. We ordered from them a half dozen times. The service seemed below average but the food was average and reasonably priced. Recently we ordered several Mongolian Beef dinners which when opened emitted an extremely overwhelming ammonia odor. We thought that we were going to get sick just from smelling it. None of it was eatable and it went in the trash. Why would a restaurant soak its food in ammonia? We found this experience to be unacceptable. We will not purchase food from this restaurant in the future.

Panda used to be my son's favorite restaurant, but after 15 years that's changed. I don't know if they have new owners or something, but the meat is tough and not well seasoned, they now charge $2 for a little scoop of rice, and the egg drop soup tastes like its thickened with cornstarch. We're looking for a new favorite.

I'd been working late and it was the only place open that wasn't a drive-thru. When I entered, I was told I was the last customer. I told them I was placing a to-go order, and asked for a menu. The owner/chef said, "No menu! What do you want?" Guessing he didn't want to start over in the kitchen at closing, I asked what he had left. We tossed some ideas around, and decided he could whip together a chicken lo mein. It was good, and super hot, even 20 minutes after I made it to my hotel. Not an unpleasant experience, and frankly, I was glad to be fed at that late hour. Tasty noodles.

Writing this review from the bathroom. You can imagine why. 4th day of stomach issues. The food was much better a few years ago under the previous ownership. My buddy warned me not to order from Panda anymore but I ignored him since I had fond memories of the House Fried Rice with the egg on top. My wife and I ordered take out on Friday night and ended up with stomach issues for the remainder of the weekend and today. We had the house fried rice and broccoli beef as well. Service was friendly but we won't be back anytime soon because of the stomach issues and the food quality wasn't good anymore. Two stars because of friendliness and fast service I hope other peoples experiences are better. Good luck!

I came here with my brother and dad around 10 because pretty much all of the other restaurants were closing at this time and we didn't want drive through. My brother and I order dinner combos while my dad ordered some pricey seafood dish. The food came fast and in small portions. Honestly it tastes like they just took frozen food and popped it in the microwave for a couple minutes then gave it to us, the flavor was bland, and my chow mein was cold even my dad said his food was cold. For 3 cold nasty dishes we ended up paying $53. We would have been better off going to McDonald's at least the food would have tasted better.

Nothing special. Their sweet n sour chicken was substituted for my general tsos. I might be high but I know good Chinese when I taste it. Avoid

Premade food, nothing was really made to order. Food itself wasn't disgusting , but also wasn't anything special. The egg rolls weren't very tasty , the Lo-mein/Chow-mein I definitely did not enjoy and the Mongolian beef was just dull. Place is empty for a reason guys!

Always good and consistent food. Their lunch specials ate some of the largest portions on Anchorage.

Well, I've had 2 experiences with Panda and they were both really different. The first time was a impulsive grab-n-nab for take-out on the way home from work. The place was abandoned at that time (730 pm on weeknight.) Our food came super fast. It was delicious and set us back about 20 bucks for the two of us. Our second experience was a mistake. Busy Friday night, the place was packed and the service was not great. We felt like cattle being processed for slaughter. We got specials, which were flavorful, but overcooked. They came SO fast, they must have been sitting under a heat lamp. The fried sesame chicken batter was crispy and light, but the chicken inside was barely edible because it was so overcooked. Portions were way smaller than what we had for take out. And the egg-drop soup tasted like dishwater. And I don't know how you screw up oolong tea, but it wasn't very good. The bill, with a tip for the 2 of us set us back 35 bucks. If someone else was paying, I'd eat there again, but they're not getting MY hard-earned money.

It's always hit or miss with them. Sometimes it's delicious and well portioned, sometimes it's terrible with hardly any meat in the meat dishes. The teriyaki chicken is good, but for the price, its more cabbage than chicken.

Food prepared quickly and delivered to the table hot BUT my dish was not prepared as described on the menu, which was Kung po shrimp. The shrimp was not fried, consisted mostly of non traditional Chinese vegetables, and was not spicy. I can not recommend nor will I return.

Found three hairs in my food... NEVER Eating There AGAIN!!! Don't ever ever ever eat here I'm telling you unless they start wearing decent hair nets

Placed an order for delivery through their website. It was fairly easy and convenient. The one star can go towards that. Ordered 2 combo plates for $14.95 each. They came with 2 entrées, fried rice, and an eggroll. Sesame chicken looked and tasted like mediocre sweet and sour chicken sprinkled with sesame seeds. Schezuan beef tasted ok, but consisted of mostly vegetables. Spicy shrimp tasted like it had the same sauce as the Schezuan beef and also consisted of mostly vegetables. The chow mein was made with what looked like spaghetti noodles and had grisly pieces of meat. The eggroll and fried rice were...meh. The portions were pretty small for the price. Not satisfied with the meal what so ever. For this kind of "Chinese food" I'd rather go to the Safeway deli where the prices are waaaay less and the food is either on par or much better.

Worst FOOD I have ever ordered or ate in my life!!! Not just Chinese food but over all worst food EVER!!! I recommend to NEVER NEVER ORDER OR EAT HERE!!! The fried rice is not FRIED.. IS NOT fried rice. What I ordered was nothing close to what it was suppose to be. The worst food ever and I wanted a complete refund but wouldn't do it. Never NEVER EAT HERE OR THERE FOOD.

Wow, unequivocally the WORST food I have ever purchased from a restaurant. The picture in the menu made the "Seafood Platter" look teaming with assorted seafood. It was a long day at work, and I was hungry, so I ordered it to go - even though it was probably the most expensive item in the menu. I also ordered a large (only size the offered) hot sour soup. 24 bucks got me a styrofoam box filled with stir fry vegetables. The seafood consisted of exactly: Four small (inch long) pieces of crab leg, four shrimps, and four of what I think were muscles. There were dozens of small round crunchy white vegetables, probably water crest nuts, cut to resemble clam pieces. What I got was barely edible, and I had to spit out several vegetable pieces too hard to chew (yes, too hard to chew vegetables). I couldn't finish the food, not because I was full, but because I was thoroughly dissatisfied. Hoping the hot-sour soup would be better (but I had serious doubts), I tried a spoonful. Blech! I tried another spoonful. Double blech! So here I am now in my hotel room. 24 bucks poorer, tired from a hard day's work, and starved. PLEASE READ THESE REVIEWS BEFORE EATING HERE! I sure wish I had.

Useless tried to order delivery take away. I am less than 2 miles from restaurent. After online order they called me because they didnt understand that my duplex was ."A" as apposed to B lol. Then told me delivery would be 1 hour .... 6pm on Sunday maybe they had a rush in the restaurent ??? what a waste of time needless to say I cancelled. Gave one star but that is not deserved !

Tacky...fake flowers, dust all over windows and menus falling apart..this place has def gone downhill! And fried rice was a bit mushy. Thought we'd try this place one more time, but think this is last time we come here.

Well if you've ever seen Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon Ramsay has a little saying. If a restaurant has best of this or best of that and it's more than a couple years old, most likely yes has major issues because the owners are living in the past. This restaurant has reviews that are about 10 years old along those lines, should have been my first time. But a friend took me there and recommended it. I figured being in Anchorage seafood would be fresh and probably a pleasant surprise at a Chinese restaurant - so I ordered the seafood dish that comes with veggies. Not only were the seafood portions very small, they were either overcooked or undercooked severely. My scallops were raw, my shrimp was tough and chewy, the 1 inch chunks of crowd in the shell we're not even hot. The sauce was bland and undistinguishable. My friend's combination plate that consisted of chicken items that looked tasty and maybe this is what the restaurant is only capable of. If that's the case I could have gone to Panda Express in a shopping mall food court for better taste and better quality ingredients. However my entree was disgusting, had no taste, and was not cooked properly. Fortunately I did not get food poisoning. I was just a tourist visiting town but if I lived in Anchorage I would never ever be back.

Horrible... I order Chinese once a week. Have always love panda. The food has gone down hill. They have raised prices which I didn't mind. Until today when I orders online and for conformation call I asked for extra potsticker (dumpling) sauce. They only send 1 pack for 8 of them. They charged me extra for 3 extra packets. Like really when I order from China garden then send a bunch of different sauces with out me asking. I WILL not order from panda again they are greedy. Plus the food is not up to par anymore.

I get the impression that the food here is all made ahead, just waiting for the right neon colored sauce to be ladled on. I've seen a phoned-in order show up in 5-10 minutes. That's too fast! In the days when I would actually go here for lunch, the "Top 10 USA Today" thing was new. We would joke about how did they get that rating? It makes no sense to me, because this food pales in quality to chains like Ling & Louie's or PF Chang's.

  • Kari R.

Yum! Decided to dine in instead of take out. The sesame chicken fresh from the kitchen in amazing. The staff was friendly and the food was plentiful.

Dirty tables & condiment shakers, rushed service. Food seems to be prepared well in advance and I'm questioning the safety of it, actually. Will not return.

I want to be fair and I think one star is all I can offer. The one star is not for the food, it's for the hospitality. It has been pleasant both times I've eaten here. The food, however, has not. They portend to be slightly nicer than Panda Express, but I'd take that fast food joint over anything I've eaten. Of course, the egg rolls are edible, but those are impossible to screw up. It's not that the food is BAD, it's just not good. It seems like they use the same sauce on a lot of items and cook the dishes with as minimal care as possible. My food practically came out of the kitchen before I finished ordering. It's never warm. It always feels slapped together. I've tried the Kung Pao Chicken, Spicy Shrimp with Vegetables, and Mongolian Beef. All were less than average. I recommend Rice Bowl as a better Americanized Chinese joint. It may be more expensive, but you get what you pay for. I'd rather pay a little more for much better quality.

I've come here a couple of times and I still have not been impressed. Good service, food is okay though not quality. I don't think the flavors and consistencies of the sauces occur naturally in this world so I was a little concerned about what I was ingesting. The sauce for my vegetable dish screamed of MSG. It was a bunch of veggies, which for the most part were fresh, were covered in a clear gelatinous/glutinous liquid with red flecks, but only because I ask for spicy. My friend got the Sesame Chicken and it was overly breaded, but he said tasted good. Both meals were lunch prices of $8.95, and came with a choice of steamed or fried rice, wonton or eggroll, and eggdrop soup. Good price for a restaurant-served-chinese lunch, though I don't think I'll be back.

  • Carla R.

I really like the food here. The offer some very nice combination dinners and I think most people could find something they like to eat here, The dinning toom is small and the booths cramped together so you have to be willing to wait . The parking lot is also very small. This is in my opinion the better chinese restaurant in town.

    (3)
  • Jenn H.

I use to love this place until I and fellow workers got food poisoning. I would hesitate to go there until they work that shit out.

  • Chamile U.

I've had a few experiences with panda. I called in just before 3pm to get the lunch special and they put me on hold literally until 3 o'clock and then told me I can't have the lunch special because it's too late. On the other hand, their mangolian beef is great and sweet but I'm convinced that their food is pre-made and they just pour some sauce on top and call it a day. When I went to eat in my food came out in 5 minutes. Something isn't right there but I'll give it 3 stars because they have the best mangolian beef in town.

    (3)
  • Karyn M.

Last time I came to Alaska, I loved this restaurant. This time, not so much. The "new cook" forgot to put almonds on my almond chicken. The pork fried rice was more fried rice with a couple pieces of pork sprinkled on top. The egg drop soup was very good, probably the best I've had. I still liked it, but not anymore than any other chinese I can get back home for much less.

    (3)
  • Kongkiat R.

Tried their dinner combo (breaded almond chicken and broccoli chicken) and like many previous reviews, the food came out lukewarm. The food was definitely sitting in the lamp or in the fridge. Come on, if you gonna warm something up at least do it so that we can't figure it out. Stick it in the microwave like 5 minutes or something. The egg flower soup is way too salty with very small portion of egg and tofu. The food taste good but i just hate the fact that the food wasn't prepared fresh. I won't be back.

    (1)
  • Taran B.

Order off the lunch special menu. The egg rolls were tiny, fried rice was plain, and sesame chicken poorly done. Will not order from this place ever again.

    (1)
  • Erika T.

Should have read the reviews before coming here. I ordered the dinner combo with fried rice, chow mein, and sweet and sour chicken. Fried rice is just white rice with some veggies thrown in. Chicken was just ok, but smothered in neon sauce. Food came abnormally fast. Chow mein was spaghetti noodles with watery sauce. Our server was really nice though, so they get that.

I always order the same thing T/S chefs special, short ribs with teriyaki chicken

I NEVER leave reviews - I've always wanted to eat here just based on the Great Places to Dine sign. After trying a few things I've decided they are on of the Worst places to dine - definitely worst Chinese food. Rice not only tastes pre-made but sometimes 3 days old. I've tried Mongolian beef, Teriyaki chicken, tempura veggies (worst tempura ever!!) and Beef Short ribs. Nothing tastes fresh or remotely good. Too bad cause I work right across the street and would order frequently if it was better. After giving them 4-5 chances I'm done.

  • Christina D.

I got delivery which took an hour. I didn't mind because they had told me upfront the wait time. Food got over and I had ordered my husband shrimp fried rice which they don't use real shrimp. They use shrimp meat which is about the size of a thumb nail if not smaller. The food was overall meek. It was really just okay. The food seemed like food court food. I would say their sweet and sour pork is pretty good and I got their mongolian beef was eh, could have been better. I also ordered the lomein which seemed like the only thing that came right and wasn't just bleak of flavor. I wouldn't say this be a first, second or third choice of a place to order food from but it wasn't horrible.

Points given to: Egg foo yung BBQ pork Points taken from: USA today rating The lack of spicy in a spicy dish The tea Bottom line: If you have something that says you are one of America's 10 best, you had darn well better back it up. From my one visit, the meal was fine, but far short of my best in the country expectations

  • Geordie B C.

I had a craving for really good Mongolian Beef...so I turned to YELP and the fellow reviewers all say "good". I walked in and ordered MB to go for lunch (no soup with lunch to go orders but that's okay, I don't care much for egg drop soup anyways). I got the Mongolian beef, served on the crunchy rice noodles, fried rice that was not greasy at all, a small egg roll, a tiny cup of sweet sour sauce and a fortune cookie for less than $9. It was ready in about five minutes. I took it to the office and immediately drew a crowd. What kills me about this place is that they advertise that they are the "Ten Best Places to Eat" in the US in USA Today. Really????? Why??? I mean, it's good, very good but...what distinquishes Great chinese food from Good Chinese food? Anyone hazzard a guess??? Oh - the service was really good - they were all nice and prompt. No problem with that.

  • Nancy L.

Panda boasts being rated one of the top restaurants in the country, but that was a while back. They were great at one time, but I have had one too many disappointing meals there. I still love their Mongolian beef, but that is about it. What gets me ticked off the most is the incredibly rude service. They really rush you. Make that incredibly rush you. Example you ask? They take your order, bring your soup and before you can say Kung Pao your lunch is there. I'm not a fan of their huge flat screen tv either since they only seem to have access to the FOX news channel. I think Rice Bowl is my new favorite. Also I agree with Michael G. Charlie's Bakery is also good.

Friend: Hey, where you wanna go.. ? Me: Mmmm.. I want chinese food. Panda is one of those places where you go for chinese food in anchorage, but you're not really sure why you go there. Its not exactly great, or is it memorable. I usually just go for the specials, I had sweet and sour chicken, and mongolian beef with some fried rice. The people I was with opted for the appetizers. They know how to fry stuff, eggrolls were crisp, tempura shrimp were too. My special combo plate, well.. um.. Mongolian beef, it was tender, but just swimming in that overpowering sauce, Chicken was the same, lots of sweet glaze just everywhere. the plate looked good, I kinda like the little rice mountains. The portions are generous, but I really hate how they insist on putting fried rice noodles under the mongolian beef. Now you must be wondering, with all these little problems, why give them a 3 stars? When I really should be giving them 2? Well I thought the service was pretty good, they were eager to please, kept the beer flowing, and to be honest they put up with us and we were pretty rowdy.

    (3)
  • Susan B.

I really like going to Panda. As for the aforementioned rude, rushed service, that is one of the reasons we go there. Quick in and out & the portions are large. Your food comes nearly immediately after you make your selection. I wouldn't say the staff is really rude, maybe it is the culture difference. I too LOVE the Mongolian beef. That is the only place we get it and enjoy it. A friend once tried to make a substitution on one of the lunch combos and was given a strange look, so I wouldn't recommend trying that, but DO try Panda. I've actually been in there a couple of times and the tv wasn't even on. Every other time it was on espn. :( hard to keep my husbands focus at dinner when sports are on.

The food at this place Rocks Balls ! Maybe not the nicest restaurant around, but the food is awesome. I gave them 5 stars on the basis of their food and service. Just wish they would clean their windows.

  • Timmy L.

Been here a few times. Food quality is good. Service is fast and friendly. Interior is plain and boring. Bunch of booths. Good for take outs and a quick bite.

    (3)
  • Sarah B.

Got take-out and it was probably the worst chinese food I've had in years. The chicken dish tasted like fish sauce, the veggie fried rice tasted like fish sauce, there was no other flavor other than ... fish sauce. The meat was soggy and the flavors lacking. I was really, really disappointed because all I wanted was some tasty take-out for dinner.

    (1)
  • Kirsten F.

Not a big fan of their other food, but discovered I like their Mongolian beef. Probably because it's pretty Koreanized. I like their egg rolls, too.

I Love the Mongolian Beef....and Sweet n Sour Pork and they Deliver until 12mid. Min order of $15.

  • Shawn K.

Good Chinese food is hard time find. Panda at one time was one of the top in the country. It's not gourmet by any means. But if you have a craving for chinese, it is the one of the best in Anchorage.

    (3)
  • M A.

I agree with many others - the food here is not good Chinese. I consider the service to be unfriendly and unwelcoming. I did have one friendly encounter one out of the three times I went and that was from a younger lady that I had never seen there before. I never ate at a chinese restaurant that did not make fried wontons with meat in them ( only in Alaska). As I said I tried them three times and since the only thing I liked is the dumplings I will not be returning. Although they claim to have won food awards, I do not recommend Panda restaurant. The sad thing is I don't have any other recommendations - I have yet to find a good Chinese restaurant in Anchorage Alaska.

  • M J.

Panda used to be a local best-kept secret, and then new owners came in and put the same sauce into every order. There is nothing good about this place. They need to take down their Best Rating sign. It no longer holds. I wonder whether the folks who dole those out ever come back to re-check the restaurants. Poor food, poor service, crazy-loud tv, and not even too clean a place. PS if you want black bean sauce, try Fu Do.

    (1)
  • Sarah M.

These guys hit their stride many years ago and are still trying to profit off it, instead with lukewarm, mediocre Chinese food, tea, and service. Go to China Town if you want decent Chinese food.

    (1)
  • John P.

Well, I can't really say Panda is "The Best Chinese Food" house in Anchorage, but I will give them an extra star for one very important factor, and that is the "Bang for your Buck" when you order a dinner there and stay to eat it. The portions are plentiful, and actually tasty, but I really think they could use a course in Customer Relations". Jenn and I went in and while we were waiting to be seated, I asked the woman behind the cash register a question about their Teriyaki Special. At first I was a little frightened because she looked up at me, and had those "crazy eyes", that I had last seen so horribly in my ex-wife , when I won my townhouse free and clear during the divorce. When she spoke, there were freaking snakes emulating from here mouth ears and nose. And her tone of voice made me shiver, and I am 6 foot and 230 lbs!!! She was 5'0 and PURE EVIL!!!! Any way, we were seated, and the meal, which included Sweet/Sour Chicken, Chicken Chow Mien and Teriyaki Beef was really good. It is worth a try if you are on that side of town, however, for my own safety, and just in case, I have removed any and all identifying photo's of myself from my page until I feel the "air is clear"...try them, actually quite good...

  • Michael G.

The bad news is that there is no truly great Chinese food in Anchorage. None. This is a local favorite, but if you really enjoy and know Chinese food, skip it because these people do not. The best you'll get is Charlie's Bakery at C Street and Northern Lights (also only dim sum in Anchorage). When I asked the staff at Panda to make a dish (shrimp with vegetables in a black bean sauce) that you can readily get in any city from NYC to Honolulu, the server argued with me and then told me the chef had never heard of it. I asked them to try and the dish came out looking and tasting like sludge. (I have since had the same dish exquisitely made several times while traveling.) In summary, if you want Chinese in Anchorage go to Charlie's. Otherwise, skip Chinese and go to Thai Orchid for outstanding Thai food.
