Had the Billie rolls and they were delicious. This was my first sushi experience - I would eat it again! I also tried the sesame chicken. It was tasty, but I wish I purchased more sushi!

We wanted to go back to Yamada but they closed on us so we thought we should give this a try . What a big different . It's ok for sushi rolls and sashimi but cooked food is no comparison to Yamada. I ordered Kimchi Ramen and they gave me a bowl of instant ramen with Kimchi and charged me $12 . I could have made my own top ramen at home and added kimchi for a fraction of the price . Overall it was just ok . Service was good , no complaint there. I left the whole bowl of " instant ramen" they made for me and the gal came by and asked me if I didn't like it , I told her " you gave me instant noodle like in the package " and she just smiled and walked away . For sure I will never come back to this place .

Cute little place. Workers are very friendly and our waitress was pleasant and on point. My boys enjoyed watching the koi fish inside. We ordered the Calvin roll which we thought was pretty good. I got the teriyaki chicken combo and that was good (not the best I've ever had--but having a lot of teri sauce was a plus). Hubby got the teriyaki salmon and thought it was a little overcooked for his taste. Our daughter got the yakisoba with chicken and she said she would get it again. All in all it was a decent experience and I would probably opt to come here before I go back to Sushi Sushi which 2 out of 3 times the service has been very lackluster there (which although their food is very good, no one has time for crappy service).

One of my favorite sushi joints in Anchorage. I suggest sticking with the rolls on the menu and not opting for the specials posted on the board. The specials tend to be a little odd in flavor and think it maybe Dami's way of using up "old" items. Other than that, the food and service are fantastic!

Great food, great service, and great desserts. What more could you ask for? :-) Ps. Their Thai tea or green tea ice cream is the way to go after a delish meal at Dami

visiting Anchorage from the Bay Area, I was expecting better sushi than i found at Dami. i followed the Yelp reviews, but I think they are vastly overstated. the location is kind of sketchy (attached to a shady motel), the service was sloppy (poured water on the table and in our food every time they refilled our glasses), and the sushi rolls were swimming in sauce. only one choice of hot sake, and a pretty harsh-tasting one. seaweed salad tasted metallic. if you are visiting from any region of the world with good sushi (e.g. the Bay Area, Seattle, Los Angeles and, of course, Japan) I would stay away from this joint.

This was a great place. Despite its unusual location (attached to the Econo Inn), the ambiance was nice. The interior was decked in the usual Japanese garb and was dark with spotlight lighting and fairly loud rock music playing. The food was good. I had the sushi which was well prepared. The teriyaki and spicy squid was great. We also had the oyster appetizer...so fresh. I'd say the only downside was the drifting smell of cigarette smoke which only came in when a large group walked in from the Inn. It was minor. At the end of our meal we had a neat surprise, fried Oreo cookies! That was a treat since we've never had them before. Great end to a really good dinner.

This place is the cheapest in town and the most delicious. Interior is super nice and service has always been good. I've tried almost every sushi place in town, and Dami tastes the best and is the most affordable!

This restaurant was awesome. We arrived at around 8:15pm knowing that they close at around 10pm. There was only one other group that was there besides us and they eventually left, which left us to be the only ones there. Their food was amaaaazing. There wasn't anything there that didn't taste great. And their customer service was great too. It was my last night in alaska and I'm glad I ate there. It was great.

Con: The customer service was subpar. Folks we encountered working the front of house seemed rather cold and unwelcoming. Sushi was not great. Pro: Spicy seafood noodle soup was yummy. Great for a chilly eve.

When I came to Anchorage, I was spoiled by the fresh fish. Dami did not disappoint me. I found Dami through Yelp. Based on the positive reviews, I checked it out one evening during my visit to Anchorage. It was very easy to find and I liked that it had its own parking lot in the back, shared with the Econolodge next door. Walking in, my first impression was that Dami had a tranquil, intimate, and romantic ambiance. With an indoor fountain and soft lighting, it seemed like a good place for a date or business meeting. I opted to sit at the sushi bar, and watched the chefs make orders. The sushi bar is always a good seat in a sushi restaurant IMHO. My order was for the bento box combo with teriyaki salmon, tempura and choice of any sushi roll. I picked the Sunrise (?) roll with unagi and spicy salmon. My meal also came with an appetizer, miso soup, house salad, rice, and a mini cream puff. All of this for just $18.95! A good value for Japanese dinner bento box. The teriyaki (wild) salmon was tasty and fresh, although it was doused in too much teriyaki sauce. The spicy salmon in the roll had a nice kick to it and also tasted fresh. The tempura breading was too thick, but it was not bad. With all the sides, I left full and satisfied. 4 stars for good value, nice decor, fresh fish and friendly staff.

Customer service improved a whole lot this visit to anchorage. The food was good, the servers were very personable and made conversation that was very inviting. The food was delicious as usual. A good thing. The location was very convenient. Next time I come back to anchorage I'll definitely come back. I'm glad I gave Dami's a second chance. Thanks for improving your customer service!

I was looking forward to trying a sushi place close to home that I hadn't been to yet, and Dami did not disappoint. It was not a-m-a-z-i-n-g, but it was good. My husband and I stopped in last night to order take out, and I have to admit I was a little nervous when I walked in. Dami shares a building with EconoLodge and the entrance was a dated cloud of cigarette smoke... it was literally hard for me to stand the odor. The smell faded once we made it further inside Dami's dining area, but it was still easy to pick up. Cigarette smell aside, we were greeted politely by a server and invited to have a seat while we reviewed the menu in the restaurant's quaint but nicely-decorated interior. There were several items that sounded good (did I mention we were starving?!), but we eventually pulled it together and picked out 2 rolls, a sashimi combo, and a side of seaweed salad. I was a little surprised that miso soup did not come with our order, but the server added it for no charge (perfect). After a short wait, we were off with our loot. Everything was neatly packed, and we were home in less than 5 minutes. The miso soup was lukewarm- easily solved with a microwave- but it had good flavor, so no major complaints there. Our sashimi seemed a little soft to me, but the flavor was good, so again no dealbreaker. The rolls were well-seasoned in general, but the spicier one was topped with too much Siracha (it overpowered the rest of the flavors), and they were not tightly rolled, so I had some serious issues getting them from plate to mouth. The less spicy of the two rolls was the Viper roll, and that one was better seasoned. All in all, we had a good dinner and good service, but there is room for improvements with the food. I was not disappointed, but I will probably stick with a more reliable choice in the future.

No spectacular rolls, but the general quality is solid. Great service and everything is very clean.

Great and super delicious food. Presented very well. Customer service great only at the bar other wise it is better for you to serve yourself. Lol. I always meet my best friends there for a 2-3 hours visits when i come to Alaska. Peaceful place. A lot of green and waterfalls. Swimming fish in a pond is a great for kids and others. I like it a lot. Highly recommend. If you want to go for a lunch break there than sit at the bar. Faster and great place for relaxation.

This place CRAMS into their food MSG. After I ate at this place, I had a huge headache and felt extremely lethargic - some of the tell-tale signs of MSG ingestion. The salmon was super dry, also. Service was meh. If you like MSG, this place is for you!

I am a sushi fan and this place hit the spot! Loved the red dragon roll! Service was amazing and prices were great as well! I will be coming back!

We were looking for some good food in Anchorage on our one night in town following an Alaskan cruise. It was raining, and we wanted something close to our hotel with good food so we checked out the Yelp reviews and found Dami. It is certainly not something that would have caught my eye when walking by, but I am so glad we found this place. Inside the restaurant has a great ambiance. We were greeted quickly by a friendly server and plate of edamame. My husband and I ordered four sushi rolls to share. They came with salad and miso soup, and each one was more delicious than the next. After a week of great food, we didn't think we would be able to finish but we ate every bit because it was so good. I even enjoyed the complimentary fried Oreo that came out for dessert (yum)! And we had a wonderful conversation with our server. This place was a great value and excellent choice. Definitely check it out!

This is the place to go when you're craving not only Japanese cuisine, but Chinese and Korean as well! They have a wide selection of rolls (Billy and Calvin are highly recommended). **Spicy Tuna Hand Roll Save your server the trip back and forth from the kitchen and don't order just 1 roll. Trust me, you will order more. **Choice Box You can choose from either chicken, beef, or salmon teriyaki. Includes your choice of roll and tempura! **Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup They have perfected this tried and true Chinese dish. Order some rolls and other entrees then order this and put it in the middle of the table to share with the rest of your party. It's insanely good. **Poki Salad Huge chunks of delicious fish. If you can't eat spicy, ask them to leave out the jalapenos! **Service What pleased me the most with Dami is their service. The servers were very friendly and on top of your orders and ready to bring you anything you need. Don't skip this place and definitely try it out!

Visited this place from San Diego. So impressed with their service and rolls! They brought us edamame and miso soup to start. We ordered tempura calamari, crunch roll and tiger roll. They were both so good. Especially the crunch roll. They brought us this cream puff deserved that was also amazing. I only gave them 4 stars because the calamari wasn't tempura it was fried. It was good but not what we expected.

We were visiting Anchorage and decided to give Dami a try because of good reviews here. I'm glad we did! Yes, parking behind the econo-lodge is a bit intimidating, but once inside Dami, you don't even think about it. It was a bit dimly lit to me, but not too bad. Nice otherwise. We had 7 people so they led us to the 'back' room to a big enough table. We were given the typical Miso soup and a little salad with a milky, tangy dressing. We only wanted ice water and they kept it filled up the whole time. We had the Gyoza appetizer which was good. We ordered the Ninza roll: Sweet, yummy!, the Crunch 2 (halibut): solid favorite at our table of somewhat spicy cowards, the Alaska roll: meh, the Creamy Salmon roll: very nice! and the Hero roll: slightly spicy, was the overall favorite along with the Ninza. We also had one person get the Mongolian beef. Nicely presented, lots of onions. So, 2x Gyoza, 5 rolls and a Mongolian beef, we got out of there with an $82.00 bill plus tip. Pricey, but yummy! Recommend.

This restaurant literally came to our rescue after suffering for two nights of hotel restaurant service. We came in with a large group (30+) and were happily seated quickly. Ordering was more or less chaos with all the people, but the soups and salads were served soon after along with the drinks, and everyone's food was delicious. I ordered some of their speciality sushi (forgot which ones), but they had so much flavor and we almost couldn't finish our order - thankfully some teens who came with us inhaled the leftovers. Overall, great price and great service.

  • Rachel S.

The food here is good, but they lack the fun and excitement if a sushi bar, they should not really have a bar in my mind, but the restaurant. We just expected a lot more fun. They are behind an econolodge, so that's a little weird and not in the best part of town. But it's ok inside, quiet

Had sushi and tempura udon. Place is owned and operated by Korean. Food was decent, clean, well prepped. Was pleasantly surprised. Plates not so clean. Kimchee came with my Japanese choice. Weird, but not complaining. Decent kimchee, possibly store bought?? Either way I was killing for a bowl of ramen to go with the kimchee. Salmon was meh. No wasabi under the fish, sushi rice isn't sushi rice, but hamachi was prepared perfectly. All the bloody and skin parts cleanly removed. Very good. All other sushi was meh. Tempura wwa pretty bad, not your typically tempura batter. Still, shrimp was surprisingly fresh. Overall I'd come here again as they are just 3 blocks from where I always stay whenever I'm in anchorage for business.

Great rolls. The staff was awesome and to top it all of the Deep fried Oreo was super awesome. You get what you pay for here. I will definitely be back!!

For the first two months of living in Anchorage all we did was try sushi places. We had so much sushi, we thought we were borderline pushing our luck on arsenic and mercury toxic levels. This is the first of the reviews on a numerous sushi houses visits. Necessarily so that I can share this gem with everyone. I must say the parking is horrendous, but you will soon get over that. Located right next to the Econo Lodge of downtown Anchorage. The establishment immediately makes you feel like you are in Tokyo. Beautifully decorate with Shoji style panels and abundant bamboo, the ambiance is simply contemporary Japanese with a touch of Zen. The food is super fresh. Many specialty rolls are available for those who want to admire an artistic sushi chef's work, even if for a few seconds until digging in. More classic sushi is also available and let me tell you, the perfect way to really taste the freshness and quality without all the "extra" sauces. Mind you I love sushi... Classic traditional and non traditional.. But there is a way to really compare across the board the best sushi places in town. That is why this review is different from all others, and that's is.... Because I have taken the time and methodology to accurately compare restaurants in town. Everyone has their own non traditional rolls, which makes it impossible to compare side by side, but when you compare traditional as well, then you can start to notice true differences. Well, Dami has darn sure amazed me with some, if not , the most fresh tuna and salmon in town. Melting In your mouth to a dance of flavors. The rice is also accurately prepared to near perfection. Making your sushi experience ... Well... Quite delicious. The desert is a small little bite of a beautifully prepared bigne, that could be Cotsco for all it matters, but the presentation definitively what sets it apart. The service is polite and prompt. It would be just too perfect if they would wear kimonos...how dare I ask more... ?!! Right!! Well, Maybe because if I close my eyes and eat, I feel like I'm in Japan....experiencing it a bite at a time.

Korean sushi joint with tasteless raw fish and Korean flavored dishes. We ordered sushi and sashimi combo and a nabeyaki udon. While portions are generous, Fish were all tasteless, we didn't even eat the tuna sashimi because it was suspiciously red (like, unnaturally red). Udon had lots of pepper and salt, so it was flavorful but certainly not a true nabeyaki udon. We were the only table on a Saturday night but our waiter was too busy chatting w the sushi chef to pay us much attention. I had to flag for her multiple times for anything. We asked for hot water since I can't drink tea (caffeine) and was given and charged for tea anyways...

Salad was great. Miso soup was excellent. Sushi was just so-so. A couple of the pieces of fish were very tough. About half of the sushi was very fishy tasting. No complaints about the service. I would not go back for the sushi. Might go for just salad and miso soup.

I love it here. When I enter, they are always so nice. I have 2 favorite sushi spots in town and Dami is one of them. The salmon rolls, tuna, and fried Oreos are good bomb! The rolls and dishes are too expensive though. They really need to cut down the cost! I also don't like the location because there is always homeless around. And even at times they start asking me for money. They need to change location, like next to IMAX theater. Would be the perfect spot!

Was visiting Anchorage and decided to have lunch here based on the Yelp reviews. The food was good, the decor was cheesy in my opinion. I went there on a Monday afternoon at 3:30 pm for lunch as the place was deserted, so I can't really comment on the crowd. Would definitely go again for dinner.

  • LT L.

So don't let the location cause you to turn around and go somewhere else. Yes, it shares space with an Econolodge but that's where the similarities end. The food and service are both great. While I wouldn't say I'm a sushi snob, I can say I've eaten some primo sushi in my time and Dami's serves some damn good sushi. My wife and I shared three rolls and some sake. The Dragonfly and Crunchroll 2 were great, and while many sushi restaurants overwhelm you with a mouthful of rice and leave you wondering where's the fish, at Dami's you get just enough rice to complement the fish and bring all the flavors forward not hidden behind a mouthful of rice! The prices are a little high but then again it's anchorage. Eat here you won't regret it.

Nice ambiance despite their proximity to the EconoLodge. Portions are large and everything is delicious. Their specials are great and the short ribs are delicious.

I've always enjoyed coming here for lunch. The decor is nice, there are competent servers, and a plethora of different rolls and lunch combinations to choose from. Lunches are a little spendy for lunch, ranging from $12-$18. But it is Japanese food afterall, not the quick grab-a-bite from Carrs deli. I got the Shrimp Tempura with Chicken Teriyaki, and a choice of roll, which I chose Dragon Roll ($16.95). The lunch came with miso soup and salad, and I would say that I really snjoyed the light tasting, slighly fruity dressing. The Dragon Roll is tasty with salmon, tuna, and shrimp over a california roll with a tempura shrimp in the middle. The whole thing was covered in a light dressing. I was happy with the meal though the roll was not tight and kept falling apart in my soy/wasabi mixture. All in all I came hungry and left happy and full. One thing to remember is that there are only 2 spots for parking in the front of the restaurant so you almost always have to park in the back near the bank.

So sorry! I really, really wanted to love it here, as I've read so many fantastic reviews (minus a couple bad experiences here/there). I am a fan of sushi, but I found their prices to be rather on the pricey side for lunch. And for a business traveler who doesn't want to exceed my per diem, I had to stick to other choices. I ended up choosing the halibut tempura plate for $10.95. It included a bowl of soup, bowl of rice, two halibut filets, 2 tempura shrimp, 1 tempura onion ring, 1 tempura carrot slice, and one tempura zucchini slice (i think) on a plate of light teriyaki (i think) sauce and a bit of cabbage. The pictures of the sushi did look good... but again, as I solo diner I didn't see any sushi combos that looked like they had enough variety with a value for me. I wasn't concerned as others have noted for the location of this restaurant being in a dumpy hotel until............ I think two crack addicts came in, wanting to buy one bowl of rice. And then they were trying to dig up all their change to add up to a $. Really?? (I saw the restaurant staff in frustration... looks like they wanted to kick them out, but didn't want to disrupt the other patrons.) It was odd. Maybe next time I'll just have one sushi roll for lunch.

Only in Anchorage can a place in such a...strange and blah location be such an amazing restaurant. It's INSIDE the Econolodge! I was forewarned and had been given a great recommendation so I went in. AMAZING sushi and quick service. While outside it just looks like the boring Econolodge, inside there is a great atmosphere. It's also a way better value than other sushi spots in Anchorage. I don't mind paying more for better food, but this place has awesome sushi and great value. I'll be back for sure!

  • Toni G.

Friendly waitstaff. Didn't wait too long for food to come out. I did think the sushi was a bit pricey but it is Anchorage. I didn't care much for the location. It's unfortunate that you have to walk through the dingy lobby of the Econo Inn to get to the restaurant. I ordered the dinner entree vegetable tempura and a spicy roll. I should have just settled for the sushi. Very large portions on the vegetable tempura which also came with soup, salad, and rice. Overall, this place was great. I had a very friendly waitstaff. My sushi chef was kind enough to make me a little side of mussels *free of charge* to try and the waitresses were attentive and made sure that everything was okay. My only complaint was the location and the prices for the rolls.

    (4)
  • David R.

The sushi was good. Not the very best, but definitely good, and the chicken katsu was very tender. Atmosphere is very nice, despite its location next to the EconoInn and the highway.

God, I miss this place. Yeah, the area is crap and the hotel isn't any better, but the restaurant is clean. At first the service isn't great, but if you are a regular, it's pretty good. The rolls are fantastic (love the CSS)and I still have dreams about the salmon. You would think every sushi joint in this part of the world would have immaculate salmon sashmi, but for some reason Dami's was always better. Like eating butter. *sigh*

dami has great sushi in a town that severely lacks in the japanese food department. the location is terrible, should move to midtown or more in the heart of downtown. i've only been there one time because i've been attempting to try out all the sushi joints around town but so far it's the best in ANC!!

  • Olivia W.

The location of this place is horrid. Now, when you get inside it is just fine. They have a water fountain and asian waiters... Nothing bad right? The food was really good. But if my dad didnt know where he was going we never would have found this place. I mean really? In the same building as a crackhead hotel? Yea, I dont think so. This was my biggest turnoff. I will only go back to this place when my dad suggests it.

By far my favorite sushi place in anchorage. The owner always greets us sometime though-out our meal and makes sure everything is ok!

I was visiting my boyfriend who works at Kendall Toyota right next to Dami and he had never had sushi. Being a sushi lover myself, I decided it was time for him to experience the greatness that is sushi. It was a 2pm lunch, so we were seated and got our food immediately. Lunch started with free miso soup and I had the Sushi a Sushi roll and a seaweed salad. The salad was a bit small. I ordered a shrimp tempura roll on steroids for my bf to start with and he loved it. He tried my roll and the seaweed salad and all were a hit. Service was great, probably because we were the only customers. Reasonably priced too.

I have been to Dami quite a lot. Usually when I'm trying to decide where to eat, it's a familiar place. My mother also knows the owners. The food is alright for me. I always enjoy any Tempura Udon wherever I go so I can't say whether Dami stands out. Their sushi is okay also. If your looking for decorative sushi/entree's then I suggest looking somewhere else. The setting is connected to a "shady looking" hotel. It's not the best environment but I've been to Dami too many times to care.

  • Cherie S.

I had to actual step over a homeless person sleeping outside the door to get in for lunch today. I only wish I were joking. It's connected to a slum hotel that attracts transients. Unfortunately, the two businesses share a parking lot. If you can make it past the bums once you get inside the decor is warm and inviting. There is something on the menu for everyone. The sushi is one of the freshest I have had in Anchorage. They offer sushi a la carte for $3-$4 a piece with the menu, including pictures, is permanetly affixed to the table for easy reference. Now here is the part that pisses me off-the service is flipping terrible. My friend and I ordered our lunch together and mine came out 5 MINUTES before hers. No explaination. Just here's yours-your friends will be out when it is done. WTF? Since I am not rude I just sat staring at my plate watching it get cold until my friend got hers. Not a time efficent way to spend your lunch hour.

I would say this is my favorite Japanese spot to eat in Anchorage in terms of food quality. I feel like their stuff is authentic food, place, vibe wise. And I would gladly go again! And get fat like sumo wrestlers.

I love the sushi here. One of my top favorites for sushi! This is usually a favorite for us to get take out at work. The other reviews say it all about the food, however, there are some reasons as to why I didn't give it a 5 across the board. 1: location - it shares the same building as a sleezy hotel attracting less than decent quality people...IE: homeless, transients, prostitutes...etc. 2: the parking lot - it's again shared with said hotel. Last time I went to Dami we parked in the parking lot and to my amazement someone had thrown rocks into the windshields of vehicles parked there! There were at least 3 vehicles with busted up windshields with nice gaping holes in them. If you park there...park as close to 5th ave with your front end pointed at 5th!

Somewhere around average for sushi. I didn't like the dressing on the salad. It was like watered down mayo. The miso soup was fair. The service was pretty quick and the atmosphere was good except for the moderately loud dance club type music. The music was not what I was expecting for a dinner visit with my parents and my partner. Prices were decent. No wine by the glass. I like Sushi and Sushi much better for Anchorage. Teppenyaki in Girdwood is really good too, if you're out here.

This has become the BFF's and my go-to sushi spot, because it's reasonably priced and has some pretty fan-freaking-tastic rolls. I'm kind of surprised it's taken this long to review, really... My personal faves are the Trent's Choice [shrimp, cucumber, tempura, topped with spicy tuna and tempura flakes] and the Godzilla [yellowtail, cucumber, topped with eel, crab salad, unagi sauce and tobiko]. The fish quality is always top-notch, never at all sketchy. The service could be a little better but it's never been so bad that we've been deterred from returning. And they give you little chocolate-drizzled creampuffs with your check, on the house. :) It's near downtown, but easy to get to. Definitely a must-see for sushi addicts in Anchorage.

This place may be usually good, but our rolls had.....warm rice. That ruined any chances of me wanting to come back. On the plus side, the ambiance is nice and there's an elegant fountain in the center of the restaurant.

This sushi restaurant is one of my favorite sushi restaurants here in Anchorage. My boyfriend and I love volcano rolls and crunch rolls and we both agree that they have the best. We try different rolls, bentos, specials, appetizers etc. here and there and we haven't been disappointed yet. I've eaten there with friends and family members and everyone leaves there happy. Their service is great and they're reasonably priced as well. I highly recommend this place to anyone.

After re-reading my review, I remembered that I actually called the restaurant upon my arrival back at home. The woman who picked up was completely disinterested in what I had to say, and didn't even apologize. I don't know how well I can trust a place that probably was using old or mishandled product. I know this happened some years ago, but violent food poisoning is something I would *not* want to risk again.

This was the first place I ate at in Anchorage and I'm still a fan. Sure, the neighborhood isn't great and it's in a not so hot hotel, but if you can make it past all of this - you'll be eating good sushi. Eating at a sushi place where a waitress speaks Japanese is a plus. I can't say the same of all the staff but it makes me feel better. No forks are on the table, only chopsticks. I drink my soup right out of the bowl and eat my rice with the bowl up to my chin and no one looks at me strange or expects anything else - it's a good feeling. The sushi has always been fresh for me and they will tell me if they don't have a particular fish. This is good because you should be wary of a place that always has everything (good indication it's frozen). The dishes are creative and interesting and the sake isn't too terrible (most sake at smaller places is cheap stuff). The staff is laid back so you might have to flag someone down but I don't might. Service can sometimes be slow but just make sure you order all in the beginning if you can. I don't get as many refills as I would like nor with the frequency I'd like either - a big negative if you are a thirsty person. Dami is my favorite sushi place in Anchorage. While I enjoy eating around and trying new places, I save this as one of my only "regular" spots.

Hands down best meal in ak, possibly best sushi in life (and I eat A LOT of sushi). Yelpers I'm a little miffed ur reviews had ranked dami as # 3 and yamato ya as #1. This misclassification made me try yy first, waste of time. Its too bad this was our last meal in ak because if I'd have tried it earlier I would have definitely made it back for repeats. We ate the poke, salmon handrolls, salmon sashimi, caterpillar rolls, scallop nigirin n this surprise complimentary seaweed n squid (?) salad that was really delish (and really suprising since we were already treated to complimentary miso n edamame. I love poke, I go to hawaii often and eat poke at least once a day while there. I LOVE POKE. This place was def not ur traditional poke, they threw in diced sweet apple!!!! It was really innovative n really tasty, plus the tuna was amazing n everything was nicely seasoned. The salmon was mind blowing. I can think of only two moments in life when I ate salmon like this, at isana in maui and a place I can't remember in san diego. It was so amazing that after eating the sashimi we ordered FOUR handrolls. Orgasmic. Boo's fav is unagi, caterpillar was stuffed with it, an embarassment of riches, so good we had to get a second one. Scallops were sweet plump n tasted like an ocean breeze. We wanted halibut but chef told us they were out - I respect that a) they move product and b) nothing is lying around. Rice was perfectly seasoned and perfectly packed. And everything looked like a work of art (fotos coming)

This has to be the best food I have eaten since I arrived in Anchorage!!!!! The food had tons of flavor. The sushi was fresh and done well. The complimentary deep fried Oreo at the end of the meal was outstanding. I will definitely be going back......

Sushi was great! We tried the Calvins Choice and the Mt. Fuji.. They were both delicious Calvins was a little better. My only complaint was our rolls were very loose. So it made it hard to eat! The flavors were great thou!! We will be returning!

Dami is our absolute favorite restaurant in Anchorage...I don't know why I've never reviewed it, because we've probably been here 100 times. I always get the Crunch 2 roll (tempura halibut with crunch on the outside) and my husband and everyone else I know goes with the Billy's surprise roll. Both are DELICIOUS. Not only is Dami the best restaurant in town, their prices are very reasonable. Ignore the attached hotel, this place is amazing!

So happy my husband found this place! We were so tired of Dish Sushi and their crazy prices and poor service! This place looked sketchy on the outside because it is attached to a shady hotel/motel. I walked in and it is just a little hidden gem! The food was perfect and is always consistent (favorite roll is Calvins Choice) decor is beautiful and the service is fantastic!

Food **** Service ***1/2 Location MINUS Edamame MINUS This is the place for Sunday sushi (when Yamato Ya is closed) or when you don't feel like waiting till you grow ear hair at YY. The sushi is very good and fresh, the people are nice, booth seating is plentiful, and they have green tea ice cream! What's not to like? So now I will explain my two-star rating. Point 1: Icky location. First of all, it is true that the interior of the restaurant is nothing like the seedy motel attached. But said motel is indeed seedy. My crackdar may not be as sharp as it once was, but it definitely tells me there are crackheads in this motel. Point 2: Icky edamame (soy beans in the shell). They gave me a maggot. Granted, I did not eat or touch the maggot, and the edamame shell appeared intact, so unless they x-ray their food, there was probably no way for them to tell. There was a time when this would not have bothered me that much, but as I get older, I get more squeamish. So if you give me a maggot, I cannot give you stars. Sorry. But I can still eat your food.

This is my favorite place in Anchorage. The sushi is amazing. They also really try and make there guests feel at home with amazing service. I really like the Las Vegas and the soft shelled crab is awesome. Cant wait to go back!

I love Sushi and man this place is good. Don't let the one star hotel this restaurant resides in turn you off. The interior is very clean, the wait staff very nice and the food is excellent. They have a delicious seafood stew that is perfect for warming you up on a cold winter evening. The thing that has most impressed me about this restaurant is that they make their spicy tuna fresh. Many Sushi restaurants make their spicy tuna the day before with their older or marginal quality fish. Not this place. Every time I have ordered spicy tuna here, I have watched them mix it up at the bar and you can taste the difference. Their Poke is also very good. Every now and then my wife and I will try another Sushi bar in Anchorage but so far Dami is by far our favorite.

Okay, I'll spread the love a bit. I have to, again, couch my comments since I'm a bit biased since I know the owners. But then again, I think I know the owners of every sushi place in Anchorage, so maybe that doesn't matter? The food is always fresh. Seriously. And with sushi, that's pretty damn important. If you have any misgivings about the place because it is connected to a hotel, forget it now. It really is that good. Plus, since it is downtown, but not part of touristy downtown, the prices are great.

Horrrrrrible service beyond belief!!! This is usually my go-to sushi sot once a week or so due to the good prices, and great sushi, but after dealing with bad service time after time after time enough is enough. I would expect being a regular to at least be treated with respect, but a snooty server this last time has guaranteed that I will not return. To bad because I was a huge fan...just can't deal with the rudeness factor any longer!!

Sushi was ok. Teriyaki beef was like those from the microwave oven. Tofu and shrimps were not fresh ( tastes funny ). This is a Japanese restaurant ran by Koreans who are overcharging their customers.

I generally will only go here if I have to. The food is fine, but nothing special. I normally get fine service, but I think that is due to sitting at the bar instead of at a table. One of the main reasons I refuse to go here is I tried to use a coupon I had received. The coupon was a bit older, but with no experation date on it. The waitress that was ringing me up gave me a nasty look and started going off about how she did not think that it was valid. Then she got the owner (I was not making a big deal of this and she got her on her own apparently thinking she needed backup). The owner then proceeded to give me a half hour long lecture on how the coupon is old and she didn't have to fulfill it, and then started in on how the price of fish has gone up and they really aren't making any money on it. Seriously people!!! IT was a 10% off coupon. If 7.00 was so important to you, don't give it. She said that she would go ahead and honor it and then didn't even do a full 10%. By this time, as I believe I had only spoken three sentences this entire time, I was done. Thank you anyways. For someone who spends a good portion of their paycheck on dining, I can think of MANY other places that will give better service. Sorry June, your great, but the staff needs to work on it.

My all time favorite sushi place. Most of the servers are very nice. The sushi chefs always greets us when we walk in. The owner is very friendly and comes to chat with us whenever we're there. Their las vegas roll is delicious!

Best prices in town for some of the freshest fish. The outside can be a little off-putting since it's inside a small motel, but once inside you'll notice how nice it is. Oh, and they have special sake bomb nights, which you really don't want to miss.

Dami is an average sushi restaurant. You can tell good sushi from bad by the rice.... Dami's is dried out and hard. The rolls are $13 a pop! You can find better sushi I'm sure for that price

Easy place to eat. Service is great the food covers sushi to tempura and does it all well. I personally like the Halibut dinner with shrimp vegetable tempura. Always cooked properly never under cooked never over cooked. Prices good and seems to always have a crowd. The phone number I took off the chop stick cover shows 274-1515; So maybe it's another number to reach Dami then the one that is posted.

Sushi quality and taste at Dami is better than at most Japanese restaurants I've been to in Anchorage. I've eaten sushi for 20+ years now including a handful of times in Japan. For me, the taste is very close to what I've come to think of as authentic. The fish is fresh and they don't skimp on the amount in an order like other places i've tried. The prices and quality are quite reasonable compared to what you would get at other restaurants. Location and atmosphere suffer a bit and the wait staff isn't the most attentive, but for the quality I save a place at the top of my list for Dami.

The sushi and bento boxes are very good, and it's usually a great place to go for lunch. The interior has a good atmosphere and is clean. The last time I was there however the service was slooowwwww. It was 40 minutes before we got our food for a table of six. That's too long for a working lunch.

All in all it was a decent experience and I would probably opt to come here before I go back to Sushi Sushi which 2 out of 3 times the service has been very lackluster there (which although their food is very good, no one has time for crappy service).

visiting Anchorage from the Bay Area, I was expecting better sushi than i found at Dami. i followed the Yelp reviews, but I think they are vastly overstated. the location is kind of sketchy (attached to a shady motel), the service was sloppy (poured water on the table and in our food every time they refilled our glasses), and the sushi rolls were swimming in sauce. only one choice of hot sake, and a pretty harsh-tasting one. seaweed salad tasted metallic. if you are visiting from any region of the world with good sushi (e.g. the Bay Area, Seattle, Los Angeles and, of course, Japan) I would stay away from this joint.

One of my favorite sushi joints in Anchorage. I suggest sticking with the rolls on the menu and not opting for the specials posted on the board. The specials tend to be a little odd in flavor and think it maybe Dami's way of using up "old" items. Other than that, the food and service are fantastic!

What a wonderful place this is. Very good value /their food is delicious/ consistent. Well run - good management -- they care. I am a fan!

The sushi was good. Not the very best, but definitely good, and the chicken katsu was very tender. Atmosphere is very nice, despite its location next to the EconoInn and the highway.

Seafood noodle soup was perfect coming in from the cold. Sushi was tip notch and the deep fried goodie with whip cream was a great surprise when the check came. Loved this place!!

Thick sliced sashimi and delicious sushi. I like to sit at the counter, usually I get free samples of new stuff to try!

This has to be the best food I have eaten since I arrived in Anchorage!!!!! The food had tons of flavor. The sushi was fresh and done well. The complimentary deep fried Oreo at the end of the meal was outstanding. I will definitely be going back......

Sushi was great! We tried the Calvins Choice and the Mt. Fuji.. They were both delicious Calvins was a little better. My only complaint was our rolls were very loose. So it made it hard to eat! The flavors were great thou!! We will be returning!
