Great Hockey Bar with some exceptional food for a sports bar.

This is a great place. It's like a pub, but a bit more upscale. It's decorated in hockey gear, and there's always some game on the TVs. The Poutine is almost as good as you'll find in Canada, and the Bacon Bird was delicious.

Wednesday night, first time at crossbar. Waited to sit outside. Once we got a seat, it was like we where sitting in a no serve zone. We instantly became burdens for the servers no one smiled. It really sucked. My girl was bummed she was super excited to come here. I really hope the owner reads these reviews and does something about it. Good note: bartender girl was awesome and was a great help so was the guy.

Being a rabid, I mean -avid- hockey fan, I was excited to see Crossbar come to fruition. I went tonight to see the Lightning @ Kings game because I certainly couldn't pass up a chance to watch my boys on TV. At night. With beer. Nice open floor plan with lots of TVs, and the staff was super willing to change channels for guests (we were the only ones watching the Tampa game, natch). Our server, Michelle, was attentive and offered us a genuine smile (a rarity in Alaska)!!! The menu was not your typical bar food--lots of healthier options (killer salads) and even some organic choices (!!). We went with the poutine, which was delicious, though not a huge portion. I got the pulled pork sliders, he got the pastrami sandwich. Both were tasty, though I do think it's a little chintzy that it's an additional $2 for any side..sandwiches should come with something. I got a house salad with mine and the dressing (rhubarb balsamic) was fantastic. He got the potato chowder and OMG it was pretty epic. We ordered dessert since we were in it for the long haul (and a tough loss, boooooo). The peanut butter pie was creamy and not-too-sweet. The butterscotch bread pudding had a delectable sauce but was sort of cold and dense, rather than as magical as I wanted it to be. Beer was local and cocktails were handcrafted and unique. Overall, this was a great experience. While it's a little pricier than the average sports bar, it absolutely offers a commensurate value. I will be back for many more games. Also--mad props for having Nate Thompson's jersey on the wall. This fan was super stoked to see the Alaskan Assassin up there!

Didn't get a chance. The place closed on 10 May 2015.

Complete failure. Sat at a table and was surrounded by seven screaming unsupervised kids playing games. It's a SPORTS BAR. Their problem is that they cater to these unsupervised kids. Manager Jade explained to me "We are not a sports bar, we are a restaurant." - which was news to me! I let her know that I didn't want any discounts, I didn't want anything for free, but that this would be my last visit. I will never be back. I wish I could give it zero stars!

I've been here several times and it's been consistently terrific. I'm not sure what people are expecting that rate it so lowly! The food is exponentially better than any other sports bar in town. The chili brined wings are terrific and on a short list of the best in town (winky's and fusions are up there too), unlike the anemic, sauce drowned wings served by the big wild wing place in town. The poutine is excellent. The sandwiches are great and the fried chicken is awesome. Better food, better service, cleaner tap lines, better mixed drinks and better beer selection than the farm, eddies....insert bar here. The only things keeping them from 5 stars are as follows: It seems like the table section experience comes up a little bit short compared to the bar. If I had to guess why I think it's because things sit longer before they get to you. The food doesn't seem to be as fresh off the line, the drinks seem to be more watered down. It's certainly family friendly and the kiddos will love the real bubble hockey game, but temper your expectations. The bar is where you want to be to get the best experience. Viewing angles on the TVs are a bit awkward. They're all mounted at the top of the walls in a room with 20 foot ceilings. There are no TV's in your direct field of vision, and in particular if you're sitting at the bar you have to turn 90-180 degrees to see the game, which isn't super convenient if you're eating too. There are plenty of TV's with the full directv package options to see whatever game you're looking for, but you may have to adjust yourself to see the game you came for. Pulled pork sandwich. First time I ordered it, it was great. Served on a Hawaiian king roll. The last couple times the king roll was drier, toasted too much (should it really be toasted at all??) and a little too big and the pulled pork retained too much liquid which made the bun fall apart. Most everything else I've ordered I'd recommend (which is basically everything else on the menu).

In anchorage last week, it was late and choices were slim so we decided to give this place a shot. Staff was fine, waitress seemed sweet but a little inexperienced. There were a few times we wanted to ask for something and didnt see her around so we didn't get it. I was really hungry and ordered the beet salad and the bison chili. They were both "meh". I mean the beet salad had hardly any flavor other than oil. I asked for oil and vinegar for my dressing on the side and when it was brought out the waitress said the chef told her that the beets are already marinated in oil and vinegar so I probably wouldn't want anymore, well he was right to think I would pass on the oil but there was no contrasting acidity to the salad. It just tasted like a lot of oil with different textures depending on the bite. There was a slight sweetness at the end if you took a bite of only beets but overall it was boring...just like the chili. Blah blah chili. No heat or flavor or yumminess of any sort, just no reason to keep picking up your spoon. My bf tried the potato chowder and got kind of grossed out by it. Overall it was pretty disappointing

So this is a neat place. Open not too noisy, clean place. Only one down side, the food was crap. (Or at least the sandwich I went with..) Soup special was a reindeer sausage and cheese soup. I've had RDSausage before so I thought I'd like it... Napes... I ate all the sausage and veggies out of it. The liquid was greasy and off tasting. More than half of this was left in my cup. Make ask for a sample to see if you like it first. steak sandwich- just stay away from it. It seemed to be a frozen piece of meat that was defrosted, cooked to my liking (it was done correctly in that aspect) But; it just seemed like meat you'd give prisoners, or something you'd find at Shoneys/ IHOP / Denny's. Not something you'd expect of a decent looking place like this. I would have given this place a 2 if it wasn't for our stellar waitress. We (a friend of mine) are on a business trip and were delayed with work. We struck up a conversation with her asking for things to do in ANC. She probed us for likes and started rattling off things for us to check out. We mulled things off and started talking it out and when the next round of beers came, so did a list of things to do/ google. She went above and beyond. Just wish I remembered her name. If a manager is reading this: 5'6-5'8 / skinny. Left side lip ring, 2-3 piercings in each ear. She needs a few gold stars. She alone got you 3 outta 5 on this visit.

I went for lunch recently. There was no hostess, and the bartender came over to seat me, so I sat at the bar. I am a no frills type of dude so I ordered my usual thing, a bacon cheeseburger. The burger was ok, nothing to write home about. The fries though, oh the fries. If you are going to provide fresh cut fries, learn how to cook them correctly. The fries were dark brown, soggy and limp. They had not been blanched first at a lower temp, with a second higher temp fry. So they sucked badly. The beer and liquor selection looked pretty good.

Jayne was my server an she's great - actually she was my server here while this was Boston's! Open floor plan, don't worry about being too noisy. Unlike other new places that seem to have a hard time getting into a smooth flow, they have it together here. The owner, Kenny, is here all the time and he's INVOLVED. a local business!

  • Ralph W.

First time here and it's pretty good. The steak was dry but other than that everything was awesome! Had the North of the Border drink and it was great! Try the fish tacos, the bison chili and the brownie (add ice cream!) for dessert!

Excellent service and good relaxed atmosphere especially if you enjoy hockey, which we do! Food was so tasty.

I would give zero stars if I could. Once again, I tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt, but today my group was told that we cannot watch hockey because another group wants to watch football. Excuse me, but isn't this a Fucking hockey bar???? This is pathetic. To Pipers sports lounge we go!! At least they show hockey!!!

    (1)
  • Bart R.

Went there to watch the game and the tv was changed while I was watching it b/c someone who just got there requested it. I was told to watch another tv or change seats. Not cool.

  • Tony R.

Very disappointed! 6 wings with a cup of soup they are calling blue cheese dip. Said something I got a dish of blue cheese chunks! Pastrami was over cooked and greasy Only thing good out of our meal was the fries We won't be back anytime soon!

  • Jessica R.

I was very impressed! I had the cheeseburger, but it was pretty fantastic for a burger. The service was a little slow for how little people were there, but she was a very nice server and funny. The food was fresh, tasty, and worth the money. I liked the atmosphere. Plus! I got to color, most restaurants figure I'm kidding when I ask for crayons. ;-) I will go back to Crossbar!

I love this place, they have wonderful staff and the food is fresh, the perfect amount of portions and never a disappointment. I am not even a really big sports fan but of this place I am.

  • Thomas D.

Great midtown location, easy parking, quality atmosphere, local brews, awesome vegetarian options, love the place! Ideas: 1. Run sports on all the TV's, but on the big one in the corner have second run movies playing, (ALA Bears Toothe). 2. Pizza! It would be so easy to make better pizza than the MT! (Don't forget the vegetarian option.) and grand idea #3. For the ladies, (The half that decides where we go out at night, :), on one or two of the TV"s, run something like the Victoria's Secret loop they run in their stores, something for everybody! Yeah! Oh, and what the hell, add a pool table in the southeast corner, now you're talking!

    (5)
  • Chelsea A.

AHHHH-MAZING! We got the half size loaded nachos warm & crispy with the perfect amount of spice with the jalapeños. Kale & quinoa salad with blackened chicken was soo good! Never ate a bed of kale like that but it was extremely tastey!

  • Mary C.

Oh what Fun!! LOVE the decor, LOVE the atmosphere... why is it that Anchorage is just now getting a "hockey" bar? I do love the Blueline but they aren't a high quantity place like Crossbar. Knocked a star because the service was ridiculously slow, the place was packed so they got more patience from me than normal-- but I still should see a server more than once an hour.

Great sports vibe...even if ur not a hockey-person....good selection of beers & food (including vegetarian)...tons of HDTVs....clean....

It pains me to give this review. I look up to the owner of this restaurant....I still do, but his staff have let him and me down horribly. We were greeted by a young lady that had the personality of Wednesday Adams. It's rare that I walk into a establishment and feel as if I were a burden upon them..... I overlooked this and continued upon the evening. The waitress was only slightly more energetic about our being on the premises. Never the less, this place is owned by my man Brock,,,, this has got to rock! We continue on.... Keep in mind, this is a Saturday night and the place is only half full. Our drinks took nearly 15 minutes to arrive and did not arrive fully. Just part of them. I had the signature Crossbar Tea. It tasted like a low end club brand mixer. Actually that's not fair to the club brand. The pountine fries were reminiscent of greasy cold and limp 3 am truck stop fries with a cheap mix gravy. These limp grease traps should have been thrown in the trash The blue corn reindeer dogs were quite good, however... You get just 1 1/2 hot dogs for $9 bucks.... You heard right... 3 sticks, 1/2 dog per stick for $9.00 The pulled pork sandwiches were okay... Not great or huge.....hell not even hot, just okay. The battered mushrooms were great tasting and a fair deal. (The only reason for not giving a 1 star) The waitress and hostess seemed like they would rather be anywhere else and the cooks murdered what should have been a great meal. The food concepts are rock solid, it's a damn shame that the cooks half assed it. I don't mind paying high prices for great food, but this was anything but great good. 1 dish out of the 6 we tried was enjoyable, and the service would have embarrassed Denny's. What you have here is a place that was designed to be fun, engaging, and fulfilling. It breaks my heart knowing the staff either are not capable of delivering the vision or simply do not care. The drinks took

Wondering why I waited so long to come here. Good food and beer. Great place for Sunday and Monday night football.

  • Brennen L.

The food is kinda plain. I had decent service and it looks cool inside but it's almost as if the quality of the food didn't match everything else. I know they're new but for the price they charge and how good things sound off the menu, it didn't meet expectations.

I came here with my aunt when it first opened and I was pretty disappointed. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and some fries. The chicken was really dry but the coating on the chicken was very tasty. My fries were really soggy and gross. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because of the nice waitress and the carrot cake. I recommend getting the carrot cake if you ever come here!

Had lunch pulled pork ob Hawaiian bun. Really good! Fries were great atmosphere and service is top notch! Scored a goal on that one!

First visit to the crossbar was yesterday based on the good reviews. We had the poutine, burger, and pastrami sammy. Poutine was great! Burger was under seasoned and didn't have any mayo on it nor was it offered. Pastrami sammy was good but should be changed to a Reuben since it needs cheese and a better sauce (instead of mustard). Service was great! 5 stars for effort, but 4 stars for execution.

I would highly recommend checking out the Crossbar! Don't let the sports bar atmosphere trick you into thinking they only serve "sports bar" quality food. My wife and are vegetarians and we were pleasantly surprised to find more than enough options on the menu. We decide to try a mix of appetizers and went with the artichoke dip, mushrooms and some black bean hummus. You can tell immediately that everything is made in house, no pre made Costco ingredients here! If the great selection of beers on tap does not do it for you, the drink menu will! We both decided to each try a different cocktail. Much like the food you can tell that the drinks have fresh juice and not some bland simple syrup mix. Overall very impressed with the service, quality of food and attention to detail. You can tell the ownership has put some work into this place and that they are passionate about what they do. Keep up the good work! We will be back for sure.

Amazing place. Would say I spent way too long here watching way too much hockey yesterday but I don't think there is such a thing. The staff was very accommodating and friendly, honoring every game request our group made. They have a pretty nice beer list, all local/in-state brews with a couple of their own specialties. Didn't try any of the cocktails but that list looked impressive as well. The food menu was pretty surprising for a sports bar. I probably saw the words "organic" and "Alaska Grown" more than I've ever seen on a sports bar menu. The fried chicken sandwich and battered mushrooms were amazing. Definitely recommend giving this place a try. I'll definitely be back back.

My boyfriend and I came here on a whim, we both love hockey and had to check it out. I started off with a cocktail called the mountain goat (which after one sip I said "it's hawaii in Alaska!") and he got one of the many draft beers. While sitting the penalty box gazing upon the 4 TV set up we watched some hockey and munched on some excellent food. He had a cheese burger with a homemade bun and I had blue corn reindeer corn dogs and fries. This place has a definite Alaskan hockey flair which makes it's awfully special. Not to mention that while we were sitting in our booth a older man came over and pointed out to us-and his daughter that was visiting-his old hockey team picture on the wall. How's that for nostalgic?

I will try this place again to get a better feel. Good service today, average craft beer selection and huge mushroom appetizer. Had no room to eat after chowing down on the shrooms.

This is one of our favorite restaurants in town - the atmosphere is very casual and relaxed, the food is beyond delicious and they have a good selection of drinks. Our favorites include the poutine (add some bacon!), crossbar cheeseburger, steak sandwich and the ice cream sundae! Also, Alicia is our favorite waitress - quirky personality, great sense of humor and great service! Definitely a place to check out if you're looking for a casual feel, hockey bar with delicious food! Love this place!

The pountine and reindeer corn dogs are awesome! Great service and good wine/beer selection. It's going to be our new place to eat in Anchorage on our way through!

We had a great dinner for our first visit. It was busy but no wait for a Friday night. We ordered the hummus for an appetizer, which is made with black beans instead of chickpeas. I would say hummus purists would not be happy with this dish, but it wasn't all bad. The pita points served with the dish were fresh and warm. We ordered dinner salads before the entrees were served. The salads were very plain, with romaine, shredded carrots and chopped tomatoes. Not particularly impressive but reasonably fresh. We ordered three entrees: "French Dip" made with shaved lamb loin - quite excellent; hamburger - large portion and fresh; and, roasted chicken - this was a half chicken, oven roasted with crispy skin and light gravy on top. My wife said it was probably the best oven roasted chicken from a restaurant that she's ever had. I agreed. The carrots and potatoes served with the chicken were also well prepared. Service was very attentive and teamwork was evident in the dining room. It's a "sports bar" atmosphere but very nice, with lots of local hockey memorabilia, and very kid friendly. I noticed the vintage arcade games near the bar area. All hockey themed and a nice touch. I suppose several patrons there could have been hockey players, plenty of energy but no fights broke out (just kidding). We will definitely come again for another visit.

Sat at the bar; bartender was witty and great at his job. Had a dirty martini and lamb sandwich. It so amazing. Will definitely come back again. Well priced as well.

Good food. Vegetarian options which is nice in a bar. Great Alaskan beers on tap. Love the hockey theme. Go wings!

  • Sherilynn B.

Came in with low expectations & was pleasantly surprised. Had the cheeseburger & spinach salad. Cheeseburger was average-good not as good as the $14.95 price tag though a little on the dry side. The salad was scrumptious and I would certainly order that again. My youngest son had the chicken fingers which were moist and tasty. My husband had the pastrami sandwich with fries. He liked the flavor of the sandwich but again on the dry side. The french fries are home made which is a bonus. The atmosphere is fun & great for kids with the hockey games & paraphernalia.

    (4)
  • Todd L.

A pleasant surprise. Good selection of beers on tap, and the food was a lot better than your standard "bar" food. While it's hockey themed, you certainly don't need to be a huge hockey fan (or even a sports fan, really) to enjoy this place.

Very happy with the service and food I received at crossbar this evening. I have special eating needs and I was able to customize a salad to meet them. they were very happy to do so for me. It was very tasty and super fresh.

Went here last night....pretty damn good. Was super busy in the bar area, so we sat in the dining area. We were smack in the middle of the room where it did get pretty loud but it was also packed, so, understandably loud. I enjoyed looking at the menu, it's a nice, small menu packed with some good options. We settled on a bunch of appetizers & salads. Now, the place just opened, so I understand that a few kinks need to be ironed out & in our particular case, the kink was in the undercooked fries in the poutine. The poutine would have been awesome had the fries not tasted undercooked (or perhaps they were just sitting out too long?). Razor clams were huge. Really good but a little hard to eat huge!! We'll be back for sure!

    (4)
  • Elena C.

They hand squeeze their grapefruit juice which makes for killer cocktails. Spinach dip was bomb too! Definitely a great new addition to AK :)

    (5)
  • Chamile U.

Good service. Good atmosphere. I just wish they had more variety. More wings or something. A lot of the food can use a little more salt also. I'll be back one more time to try it out again, maybe.

Best Sports Restaurant in town, with one of the better menus, period. Good management, good staff, and they even have Anchorage Brewing's Gabe Fletcher making a special IPA for them...hard to beat.

Some of the best food in town, great beer and good people. Stop going to crap chains and support local

My husband and I went there for the first time about a week ago and at first we were really excited to try out the menu. The atmosphere was pretty cool. Unlike most sports bars this one is more focused on Hockey instead of football/baseball. Our server was super nice, however, not quite all there. We started off with an app of Poutine, which was awesome. The fries are well seasoned and the cheese and gravy was great. We placed our order, I ordered the Ribeye and my husband ordered the Lamb Shank. When she brought our order I received my side salad and Ribeye (I had to send the salad back due to a long black hair in it, our server was a blonde), my husband was served the Lamb Prime Dip instead of the Lamb Shank, she was clueless as to what he ordered. She even admitted that she only heard Lamb and assumed it was for the sandwich instead. He did return that and had his original order placed again. So of course here I am eating my meal as he waits for his. The ribeye was ok, on the very thin side. The garlic mashed potatoes were amazing and the seasoned broccoli was great though. Once he finally got it, he said it was just ok, not worth the amount we paid for it. As we ordered our drinks my husband was asked if he wanted a chilled glass for his beer and he said yes..... never got it! We also had a couple of friends join us as we were nearing the end of our meal and the service didn't get any better. The one lady asked for a margarita and was asked if she wanted salt, she did, but as you can assume she didn't get it. Had to ask for the server to fix that as well. With all of the mistakes you would think that we would of been comped for something or offered a free drink or dessert... but no that never happened. I may be willing to give them another chance later down the road, we shall see. Too many other options in Anchorage to go back to a place that had too many issues.
