Stopped here to watch a NBA playoff game. Fun spot, friendly staff and great burger.

I eat here all the time and the staff remembers my name and my order, if I go anywhere else, I usually wish I would've eaten at the bear trap!!!

I just spent 10 days in Riverside/Encampment visiting family, and that beautiful valley. Had several meals here, mostly breakfast. The sausage they use is very juicy with just a hint of spice, mmmmmmm!! The hash browns are fried in butter and deeelishious!! The sausage gravy they use for the biscuits and gravy is darn tasty. I had the Breakfast burrito the day I left and headed back to Denver via Rocky Mountain National Park and Trail Ridge Rd. The burrito was filling and yummy and I did not need to stop for food until dinner at 6 PM. The drinks at night are plentiful and strong. And all of the staff with whom I interacted were charming, polite and helpful. And they serve Rocky Mountain Oysters, they were ok, but I mostly ate them to be able to say I had. When I am in the valley again I will surely return to the Bear Trap!!

FLUFFY PANCAKES IN THE RUGGED OUTBACK: We'd read good reviews on Yelp so we decided to drive 18 miles from Saratoga to get breakfast at the Bear Trap. When we got there are saw only one truck parked outside, we thought we'd made a mistake. But it was 10 a.m., so probably the breakfast crowd had already gone off hunting or something. Anyway, the atmosphere is authentically rustic in this fairly remote village where the economy seems to focus on hunting and fishing. I ordered the pancake breakfast and my companion ordered the Bear Trap skillet. The two pancakes were huge and very fluffy--and turned out to be among the best buttermilk pancakes I've ever had. The sausage was very nicely seasoned and the over-easy eggs were done just right. The skillet was also huge and tasty with a combo of bacon, mushrooms, potatoes and cheese, according to my companion. We got plenty of coffee refills. The service was prompt and efficient, not overly friendly. A stuffed bear presides over the bar area, and there is a large leg trap for a bear hanging on one of the peeled-wood columns. It evoked unpleasant thoughts about how these traps were used. I am glad we've come a long way from when it was considered okay to mistreat animals in such a manner.

We really enjoyed our stop here. I had consulted yelp and others liked it so we gave it a try. We were really glad that we did. I had the bear trap burger with homemade soup - they were both delicious. My husband had the rib-eye sandwich with homemade fries - equally tasty. A surprising find in a tiny Wyoming town. We will stop again!!! I really liked that their dogs were allowed on the bar side - but then again I was really missing my own dogs so having a friendly dog to pet was a good thing in my book!

Genuine good people? Check. Cozy wood interior to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner? Check. Could sit at the bar all day and drink the best and worst of American and import beers? Check, with a shot of Jaeger or Jack D. Take up the owner's challenge to find the penis rock and bring back photographic evidence? Why not!? Don't worry, you can still bring the kids in the dining room, just not the bar :) Bear Trap is not only THE place to be seen during Woodchoppers Jamboree and Rodeo, but all year around its warm and open to folks. It's great for locals and tourists as no one is a stranger at the Bear Trap. Comfort food is available, but there are other tasty items to choose from. Highly recommend!!

Went with a party of six the other night and had a nice meal considering the region. We were seated promptly at about 7:30 and we were about the only diners. Several other groups of diners showed up shortly thereafter and we ended up with a pretty full dining room. The dining room is typical western Wyoming style, with clean tables and clean wooden chairs. A bar is adjacent to the dining room and an open walkway connects the two. There are dogs allowed in the bar, but not in the dining room and it was a really nice reprieve with the dogs wandering around the bar. Service was quick and our waitress was friendly. Another waitress was serving and her husband was the chef of the evening. Drinks came quickly and orders were taken promptly. We sampled fish and chips (with rice and beans) which were a little greasy, but the fish was good. Several hamburgers which were cooked well and contained two patties. The rueben comes highly rated and the corned beef was extremely good. BLT was ok, with lots of bacon in it but the bread was a little dry. Prime rib sandwich should be skipped as it had plenty of hidden gristle and fat. Tater tots come highly recommended by all. Overall, I would definitely go back if in the area. Prices were great, food was good for the area and the service and restaurant/bar were a nice reprieve.

We were traveling through the area and stopped in for dinner. The burgers and chicken fried steak were excellent. It's nice to find good food in the middle of nowhere.

My parents live in Riverside and when I visit this is always a stop for my father and I on Saturday mornings. The Saratoga-Riverside-Encampment area is such a neat area. Small towns where everyone knows everyone. The Bear Trap is definitely a must for breakfast at least. I would say it has the best breakfast in the area. Excellent biscuits and gravy. They have omelets, skillets, breakfast sandwichs, various egg and meats breakfasts, pancakes, french toast. I've never eaten there for lunch or dinner, but my parents go there a lot. My dad is partial to the cooks there. Which I know why now.

Off the beaten path place to get a beer, play some pool, hear some great music on the jukebox, and dominate the best reubens around.
