I went with another couple for Valentines day dinner. I know that I should know better than picking Valentines day but we hadn't been out in a while. We had 730 reservations and we were seated at 915. The waitress was very kind and we were liquored up so it did soften the blow of an 1:45 wait time. The wine was great and the food started rolling as soon as we were seated. No menu but the waitress/owner did a great job describing the evenings dishes. The food was excellent but the price was a little shocking. Two couples and we had 2 bottles of $30.00 wine and our bill was $350.00 per couple. (Yep that's $350.00 per couple, $175 per person, $10.00 per bite.) I do give the food a 4.5 star but the price combined with the wait time will only result in a 3 star. I'd love to say I will go back but I will have to take a second mortgage on my house to return!

Great place in an area probably not expecting this level of good food. I know some have complained about slow service, which is due primarily to the amount of personal attention given to each party instead of quickly moving from table to table to simply get orders. I didn't have a problem with that. Overall, I'd highly recommend to all.

No menu, the owner recites everything to you, which may seem cute, until you get your bill and realize how expensive everything is! I thought the food at Olivero's was better, and more reasonably priced. Guess where I'll be going next time I'm in town?

My significant otter and I stopped here for lunch when returning home from holiday. I finally got to try spaghetti and meatballs! It's as delicious as everything else on their menu. We also got some of the onion/bean soup to go - that stuff is delicious and I've frozen it and fingers are crossed it's just as good when I go to heat some this fall. This is a really special place. The people working here put a lot of care into what they do.

My mother still talks about how she and her girlfriends had lunch and great wine (during the 70s) there. I was skeptical about dining there one evening, thinking: "oh, this place had it's day..." It is in a dicey part of town, but has good close parking and is well lit. I have been twice before deciding to write this review. The first time, my husband and I ate in the 'back' room. No prices are listed and the menu is recited to you by your server and the atmosphere could be close if it were jammed packed, but both times I felt like we had room to breathe. The food was very good. Tasty, and well presented. I had a filet and my husband had the lasagna. For the second visit, we just decided to pop in in the early eveing. We sat in the very well-used, but comfy booths in the front part. I had the filet again, and hubby had the ribeye. The restroom seemed very tidy and you can even 'glimpse' into the kitchen in the small hallway to the restroom. If you don't leave room for dessert, you can have them package it up to go. I recommend the Pistachio creme cake. Price: about $20-35 per person dress: casual smart to dressy

Wonderful, gourmet, italian food. Family owned for 40 years.

I am well travelled and from a food service background, we ate in the dinning room where I hade the lobster and filet. Both were easily the best I had ever had. I had been warned about the prices, and was still surprised at how expensive it was. That is the only reason it didn't get 5 stars. This is not a quick eat and go establishment, but the service and atmosphere were very good, and in line with what one would expect for a "fancy" restaurant" in a big city. Unfortunately, so r the prices. You better enjoy food and not be picky because u get what they have and prepare, but again, everything they described, and I saw delivered to ours and others tables was excellent.

Wow! Super friendly, knowledgeable, friendly service! Excellent personal attention. We ate in the back room, full of rough-hewn dark wood and a strong of sense of history. The salmon was very good. The bean and garlic soup with fresh cheese was *excellent*. I mean seriously delicious. The salad with homemade gorgonzola with bleu cheese dressing, was decadent. This is the way bleu cheese dressing should be made, with enormous boulders of bleu cheese bursting with flavor, never acid or sharp but bold, decadent, and freakin' delicious. I also had their homemade limoncello. Really, I would characterize the soup, salad, and limoncello as off-the-charts amazing, and the salmon as very good. And when you add the personal touch and super great service, it's impossible for me not to give this five stars.

Probably one of the best meals I have had at a restaurant in years. The food and service was wonderful. The deserts are all homemade and wonderful. My son and I had the filet, my wife had the lasagna and my youngest son has the spaghetti. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The staff even offed to prepare something off the lunch menu for my youngest.

I LOVE Julios! Excellent food, service, and atmosphere!! The only drawback is what most have mentioned, and that's the lack of menu (because they change their entrees by night of week I think). I have eaten here a couple times, most memorable was prom. They were VERY accommodating, and I couldn't have picked a better spot! We all had lasagna, because their lasagna is that good!

This is a wonderful restaurant for a special occasion. Book a table by the fireplace in the dining room for an intimate, romantic date or a book a group for a birthday, retirement, or other special occasion. Relax and savor each course. The staff are very attentive and commit the menu to memory to recite to you ever evening. My favorite meal here is the veal and the lobster tail! Lamb chops are also excellent!

Recently traveling through Clarksburg, we decided to try Julio's simply because the reviews were all over the map and confusing as to whether or not it's a good place to eat. Bottom Line: yes, we'd recommend Julio's for a nice, leisurely, quality dinner. To help others decide, I'll comment on what I read in reviews before ours: WAIT: We were there fairly early on a somewhat slow night, so no delay in seating. SPEED OF SERVICE: Yes, it's a leisurely pace which allows you to enjoy drinks and dinner over the evening. Our server was Jeffery, and we thought our drink/wine order was taking a while, then we noticed Jeffery was making all the drinks behind the bar. A small staff is handling everything, so service is not speedy. Plan for a leisurely dinner, and if you don't have time for that, it may not be the night for Julio's. MENU OR LACK THEREOF: It's true - there's no written menu. Like other reviewers, we found this bizarre. It makes it tough to judge the value of your dish because you have no idea the setup or price of any of the many entrees offered. And because the long list is recited from memory, you wonder if you're told everything on offer (and if everyone is charged the same). We asked several questions, but it got tedious to try to remember the dishes listed (15-20 the night we were there) and find out how they're served and how much they cost. We took a chance and ordered two entrées... PRICE/VALUE: With no opportunity to choose dinner with price in mind, our entrées were around $35 each (a nice filet for my husband, Chilean sea bass for me). We're from the DC area and are used to pricy meals, but I didn't think the average person in Clarksburg WV would pay that much without knowing beforehand. However, the entrée price includes the entire dinner minus drinks and dessert - you get bread, soup, salad and an entrée large enough that we both took home second meals. When we realized that, we judged the meal to be a very good value (esp in DC terms) - a lot of food and it was all delicious (both times!). QUALITY OF FOOD: This is the only Clarksburg restaurant we tried, but I can't imagine the food could have been better. We were very pleased with all of our food, including profiteroles and tiramisu for dessert. DECOR: The restaurant is not fancy inside or out, but not as bad as the reviews suggest - no shag carpet, the murals of Italy are pretty, everything seemed clean and well cared-for. SERVICE: Excellent. We experienced no rudeness, only very attentive service whenever someone passed by. Jeffery was top notch, always trying to make our dinner pleasant. On one stop by our table, he saw a gnat take a dive into my wine glass and insisted on pouring me a brand new glass. He worked hard all night, and others cleared dishes as they passed by. We noticed there were plenty of regulars, as they didn't mind there was no menu and servers knew their favorite dishes without asking. Pleasant find for a night in Clarksburg.

Overpriced and mediocre food! I'm not sure where the hype is coming from but it was overpriced to the hilt and the food was average at best. Oliverios and others are much better if you want good food in C-Burg

We went to Julio's for my mother's 59th birthday celebration August 2008. I called ahead and made reservations. We arrived 15 minutes early, were seated in the cafe, and a young man came and took our drink order. We ordered wine, water, and dirty martinis. The water and martini arrived promptly but no wine. About 10 minutes later a different young lady came and told us about the appetizer specials. We ordered a tomato and mozzarella appetizer. It took an additional 30 minutes before that came out and during that time, the young lady came back and asked us what we would like to order. But as we had still not seen or heard what they were offering at that time, it was hard to decide. So, she said she would bring a menu out. Appetizer was finally served (no wine yet) and we enjoyed it. Then she came back after we had finished the appetizer to ask if we were ready to order again, yet we still had not seen nor heard what they were serving (typically they recite the menu but she was apparently too busy to do that). Meanwhile, 3 other couples who had arrived after us had been seated, ordered, and were now eating their entrees. So then my mother informed her that we had ordered wine, which she begrudgingly brought. Then proceeded to walk right by our table 4 times and ignore us. Finally, another server sensing our distress came over and offered to help however she could. She asked if we would like to order but I had had enough and just asked for the check. She informed us that she would take care of it not to worry about anything. Then, the other server came back, walked up to our table, threw the check book on the table, and walked over and started to talk to another table and said "HIGH FIVE FOR BEING PATIENT" to the gentleman at the table. Completely uncalled for, rude, and unprofessional. We had been there for an hour and a half and STILL never heard nor saw the menu! I was in tears I was so angry and desperately wanted to see the manager but didn't want to further ruin the evening. My husband and I live in Pittsburgh and have been to amazing restaurants here where they truly know what good service is. Good lord the people at McDonald's are not as rude as this woman was to us. We left and went to Oliverio's where our evening was salvaged by a very pleasant and cordial server. Don't waste your time; Julio's has gone WAY downhill

I have dined at Julio's twice and both times have been below average. At my first dining experience I had brown water and was unable to order a grilled chicken salad because they were out of chicken. My second visit included extremely slow service and very cold lasagna. There are so many Italian restaurants in the area - if you are looking for a good meal I would suggest you try one of the others.

Julio's Cafe One of the old Clarksburg (Glen Elk area), WV restaurants still living up to the reputation that is built back in the 1970's. Last dined: Spring 2007. 1) Food - The food is a solid 5 stars. Everything is freshly made is with sincere Italian influences. The quality is always spectacular and is the reason why this place is a "must try" for anyone wanting a quality food night out. Don't be afraid to try the seafood as it is very fresh for such a landlocked location. New dishes are always fun to try and the wines are of the same great quality. 2) Service - Knowledgeable! Another 5 stars. This is especially true since Julio's does NOT have menus. That's right; don't even expect to see a wine list. They just don't have anything written down. So you will have to rely on your waiter for everything. In most places this would be a nightmare, but in Julio's it just seems to make perfect sense. The waiters are attentive but not obtrusive, can describe any dish on the menu perfectly, and are definitely going to earn the big tip that you'll be giving at the end of service. 3) Atmosphere - This is why the place is down by a perfect 5 star score. The atmosphere only deserves 2 stars. Julio's is located in the historic Glen Elk area of Clarksburg, in a very old building. In most cases this would be a huge boon and could easily be used to its advantage; however, the dcor is very, very outdated. It is truly stuck in the late 60's early 70's at best. In the front dining area where you enter, there is a large classic bar (circa early 1900's) and while bit dark, it has ghost of glitz to it. A few repairs and good cleaning would go a long way in restoring it to its former glory. As for the "dining room" or "back room" it is where the decade shock hits you, and not in the retro fun kind of way. The carpet is shag, multi-faded hues of orange. The walls are dark, faux wood paneling. The tables are 70's/80's dark wood country kitchen like and the hardware/glassware varies. There is a dismal fireplace, a few cobwebs, and a very old huge gondola wallpaper mural flanked buy typical 70's gold swirl mirrors. This place should be very retro classic but I don't think the owners have received the necessary push to do a remodeling. People keep coming back and the food is still tops. 4) Price - This is one of those places where you will pay for what you are getting. No menus means no idea of the cost. Julio's is very expensive, but the food quality is worth it. Because the cost equals the quality it is a solid 4 star rating. You will be shocked by the bill but you'll get over it because the food is worth it.

This is definitely one of my favorite places to eat around here. It is a whole different eating experience all together, from the beautiful rooms to excellent service. It took me a while to get used to not reading a menu but I quickly got comfortable with the verbal menu and found it to be enjoyable. The lady who was serving us that night was very nice and even gave us complimentary dessert and drinks. I will definitely come back again. This place is a must for people who don't mind paying top dollars for good service and amazing food. Watch out for their large portions. We went there for dinner and got plenty of food leftover for another meal.

There are several reasons I'm giving them 1 star. The atmosphere is dark and old, and not in a romantic way. Everything is terribly outdated, and our tableware was actually dirty. They really need to renovate the place and start from scratch. Secondly, the food isn't that good. Okay, it isn't 1 star bad, it's maybe a 2 or 3, but definitely not good enough to make up for the other shortcomings. I had a chicken dish that was so dry and chewy I deemed it inedible. Come on, it's chicken. It isn't that difficult. The price!! There are no menus, so at no point do you have any idea how much you are spending. Some might find this artistic, but I'd prefer to know how much I'm paying (a LOT) and what my choices are. With their system there are only a couple of things offered, I think with the goal of forcing you to spend as much money as possible. I honestly believe that the lady who works there judges how much of a stink you'll make about cost and then adjusts her pricing. You will sit through an hours-long mediocre dinner to be slammed with a bill 3x what you expected. Don't even THINK about hiring them to cater an event. They are completely unreliable, and the "estimate" will more than double after they have the deposit. I will absolutely never hand these people one more red cent.

Julio's is my mother's absolute favorite restaurant in Harrison County, WV. When I say this, my comment should not be taken lightly as my mother may be the best cook in the county-- the variable Paula Dean of West Virginia if you will. Julio's boasts traditional Italian dishes and Surf and Turf with the freshest and most original ingredients to be had in the area. Their Pasta Fajioli comes in FOUR different flavors and they will actually sell it you by the gallon! The atmosphere adds to their extraordinary cuisine. Ask to sit by the log burning fire in the winter!

The food and service at Julios are absolutely amazing. My wife and I have been regulars here for over two years now. We try to get here for every special event we have in our lives (e.g. birthdays, anniversary, promotions). I do agree with the last reviewer that the atmosphere and decor need some work, especially in the bar/diner area that is utilized mostly at lunch time. The fireplace in the dinner dining area is wonderful though, for quaint and special evening meals. Service is wonderful, because the owners and servers will quickly get to know you as you return more than one time to eat. They remember what you ordered, how you like things, what wine you like for dinner, etc. The final caveat that needs to be mentioned is yes, Julios is an expensive place to eat for dinner (lunch is actually very reasonable). If you are just looking for standard Italian food, sure, go to any of the multitude of places in the Clarksburg/Bridgeport/Fairmont/Morgantown area. If you are looking for something really special and have the extra money to spare, do yourself a favor and go to Julios.

One of WV's best restaurants, this low-lit, fireplace-warmed spot is a romantic dreamscape with a seven-course reality check of sumptuous appetizer, entree, and dessert offerings. My mother took me there for my 11th birthday, and I returned recently to find that it hasn't missed a beat over the years. If you're even passing through the Clarksburg area on I-79, it's worth the 7-minute detour to and from, on Route 50. Be prepared to spend some money, but also be prepared to raise your standards.
