Don't be fooled by the location in an unassuming strip mall. Waiter doesn't speak a wink of English...a good sign. Amazing chips and salsa. Chips are homemade and you know it. We had tacos: steak, chicken and fish. You put on the toppings yourself fajita style. We would drive 2 hours to eat here anytime!

Ever had bad Mexican food? I have now. To be fair, this place is in a Wal Mart shopping center. I should have known better. To be fair, all of the reviewers are not from Mexican descent like myself...that's usually a bad-sign for cultural food. I should have known better. To be fair, I didn't try everything on the menu. I should have known better. To be fair, the service....well wasn't bad. To be fair, the restaurant was clean. But they sell food. If the food isn't great...well...I should have known better. What the hell was I thinking?! Most of the time reviews on Yelp have been helpful all over the World. This time I am mad at myself. I should have known better...

Very good Mexican food for WV. Living in Texas we are spoiled with excellent Mexican restaurants which makes it hard for any other place to compete with it. El Rey has authentic Mexican meals at very good price. Chips are AWESOME and fresh. I don't know if they make them daily, but whatever they do, chips are one of the bests I've ever had. Totally recommend this place.

Date of visit 6/5/15. Yelp reviews brought me here, specifically for the "sidewalk" tacos. I got the fish tacos, which were yummy --- and too much to finish. I'd return here just to try the other sidewalk tacos.

Located just north of Walmart my Lady and I have eaten there 5 times and we haven't had a bad meal yet. Ice cold Margaritas, Burritos and Fish Tacos are great.

This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area! I especially love that i can order street tacos, and we always experiment with the variety of hot sauces. Margaritas are always good. Friendly service too.

El Rey is one of the newer Mexican restaurants in town and I like the best so far. Staff is quick and friendly and the place is clean. Food is good portion and prices not too bad.

My long search for good Mexican food other than my own in West Virginia is over! I cannot say enough good things about El Rey the food is fantastic and lots of it for the price. The East LA Burrito being my favorite it reminds me a lot of the burrito's my dad and I would get at Central Market in downtown LA when I was growing up. If you can get a pitcher of Sangria it has to be the best one I have tasted since leaving California in the 80's. The staff is friendly and fantastic!

I have been there twice. The carnitas and chicken mole were both delicious.

Great home made Mexican food. Very friendly staff and fantastic "macho salsa". Compared to other Mexican places in the area I feel they serve a higher quality of meat and have a nicer look. I love the food and will definitely keep coming back. The only small change I would make would be to lower the amount of black pepper in the regular salsa, and maybe cut down or eliminate the cilantro

El Rey is the best Mexican restaurant that I've been to in West Virginia. Everything we've tried has been great, along with excellent service. They offer traditional dishes such as mole, charro beans and traditional street tacos that you are hard pressed to find in this region. They also have the choice of black beans which is nice for vegetarians.

I've only eaten here once while passing through town. I have no complaints. The place was clean. The food was good and reasonably priced. The service was polite and attentive. I would recommend this place. They also had a $3 children's menu on Monday and Tuesday.

I love Mexican. I think this place is going to eventually compete to be one of the top three Mexican places in town, lol. I like both the other similar restaurants in town, but this one seems solid also.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
