Great little Mexican spot that we frequent often. Good cuisine fast and at a very reasonable price.

Nice location, good service, consistent food, clean. We've had many lunches here and always enjoy it. TVs with sports. Organized to accommodate groups of people if needed (like 10-20). Good, fresh, unlimited chips and pour-it-yourself-style salsa. Standard green hot stuff on the table. The Taco Fajitas Salad and Chicken Nachos we great! They added spinach and mushrooms as requested. The Fried Ice Cream was good, but this time it came out on a strange bowl. Lotta whipped cream on this one. I'm not sure why it was, but it wasn't AS good as others (of course it was still ice cream, so I'm gonna eat it! ).

It was ok, my taco salad was alright I've had better, but my husbands Big burrito was blah and didn't have much taste..the chips & salsa & cheese was good and my tortilla was fried just right though & the service was very friendly...we would come back if this was the only Mexican restaurant in town.

I love this place! It is so reasonably priced and from my experience everything is consistently good. I am a vegetarian and have no trouble eating here. I recommend the queso cheese dip!

I probably should not write this right after eating there because I'm so mad. But, my food was horrible our service was equally bad and we complained to management and I actually felt as though he didn't believe me. It was all around a horrible experience. Oh by the way he discounted the meal I didn't eat.. Gee thanks!!

2 stars for good food. Horrible service! Our server forgot over half of the food we ordered. By forgot, he didn't even write it down. Never checked on us after we got our food. We actually had to get our own bill off the host stand. We will NOT be back!

I love this La Carreta. The people are exceptionally friendly and the food is as good as you will find this far from the border.

Everything seems to be right at La Carreta. Nice new, spacious location, good food and drinks, salsa and chips are good, and the service is pretty good. I eat here every time I get the chance. Oh, and the prices are good too.

Burrito Mexicano sucks. Received one instead of two like the menu calls for, and I'm pretty sure Taco Bell has better beef tips.

This place usually has great food and service. The food is great, but the service has went down quickly. One of my biggest complaints is there are 2 entrances, one in front and back, if you enter through the back you must come all the way to the front through other customers then back to get seated. Poor design, if there are 2 entrances, please use them correctly.

Always good food. Checked out the new building last weekend and although the food was as good as usual, we were sat 9 people to a table meant for 6 at the most. The restaurant was half empty, not sure why they sat us so uncomfortably.

I admit, I went into La Carreta expecting small town Mexican food. Similarly, I freely admit that was wrong to expect small town Mexican food. If the fajitas are any indication, the people of Charleston are lucky to have this quality Mexican establishment. The fajitas were properly done and the portion size was amazing. Typically, fajitas are on the sparse size, especially with seafood. Even hailing from a coastal town I often avoid the seafood fajitas, simply because there isn't enough meat in them to justify the price. Not so here. The sides were generally good as well, though the beans were just okay and the rice was boring, if not bad. The house chips and salsa were good stuff... and while they lacked the "white sauce" popular in Virginia Beach, I was quite content with the salsa. If you happen to be in Charleston and you need a Mexican food fix, this appears to be the place to go!

I came here on a Sunday evening for dinner and sat on the terrace. I found the guacamole to be bland along with the enchilada I ordered. Overall I was not impressed with the food, although the service was friendly.

Seems to be on the way down...My husband proposed here back in 2007 (2006? Shoot...I don't remember) so we go back occasionally. 2007 (or 2006), they were really very good. The next year they were a little worse...so on and so forth.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
