Great Japanese cuisine, and friendlier waitstaff than the place across maccorkle. Come for lunchtime if you can (even on weekends) for good lunch special prices. The only thing that would make this place better would be if they had the option for brown rice instead of white with their entrees and sushi. I love white rice, but brown is just a lot healthier and better for those of us who are weight-conscious. If they had brown rice sushi, I'd be making special stops just for sushi to go! :)

Stopped in for lunch and while my colleagues went for the fried rice and the steak hibachi bento box, I chose the sushi and sashimi combo lunch. It's supposed to come with either salad or miso soup, but I paid the upcharge to have both. Both were A-OK, the same as any I've had from other sushi places (maybe more tofu in the soup). The platter of fish arrived at the same time as the other entrees. Four pieces of sushi, four pieces of sashimi and a caliornia roll. Nothing special, but it was fresh and it was tasty and it was presented nicely. I wasn't blown away, but I wasn't disappointed. A-OK.

It's been a while since I did the Japanese Steakhouse thing. I must say the owners of Fujiyama really shelled out the bucks when they built this place in Kanawha City. Huge space with traditional grills and seating on one side and sushi bar with boats, I believe, on the other side. The grills are surrounded by nice granite countertops and seating is on high back barstools. Very comfortable with a great view of the chef's action as well as other diners tables. After ordering a round of drinks I opted to split the Hollywood sushi roll with my fellow diner. Meh, this roll was basically a California roll with cream cheese. Quite frankly, my local Harris Teeter does it better. Where the sushi lacked, our chef made up for it on the grill. Between our party we had steak, salmon, and lobster on the grill with fried rice, vegetables, and shrimp. After the obligatory entertainment including lighting up an onion volcano, our Chef pumped out some fluffy rice and tender veggies. The rice was a lot fluffier and less greasy than most that I've had and the veggies were cooked just right, not raw or soggy. All the proteins were well cooked too, and we shared among ourselves. My niece opted for the Bento box, and vetoed the shrimp and veggie tempura as too soggy. The kid is a foodie that has lived in Europe twice and traveled the world. I took her word for it. Please skip the tempura cheesecake, it's awful and cheesecake does not deserve such a fate. All in all, a mixed bag for my first visit in great setting with excellent service. Hope they can raise the bar, a bit, though.

We recently moved to the area and one day decided we wanted hibachi for dinner. We chose to go to fujiyama and we never regretted the decision. The rice is delicious and just about every entree sis cooked to perfection. The chefs are all very friendly and make for a wonderful show. All in all it is probably my favorite restaurant in charleston, wv

Love their sushi, never tried the hibachi side. Didn't care for the Philly roll, but we have tried more than half of the others and loved them. We've also had really good service here every time.

Got the Hibachi chicken and steak with fried rice and a shrimp roll (plus it came with a salad and soup) to go. The service was really quick and when I got back to my hotel room the food was still hot. The portion for the price is good. I couldn't finish it all and I am very satisfied. I'm here for business and I would definitely eat here again if I'm ever back again.

Really great atmosphere, clean, new, and somewhat classy. But as far as the hibachi goes, it's pretty standard if not a bit less standard. No egg yolk sauce. Can't remember if they had bean sprouts. The chef's are pretty average, no showmans like in Disney or some of the nicer Hibachi's, pretty standard tricks if you ask me.

I come to Charleston at least once a month for a week at a time, and I will say their food here at Fujiyama's is really quite good! The soup tasted a little off, didn't get asked for a drink refill/replacement until after dinner was done, and the waiter forgot my chopsticks, but overall I was pleased. I'd like to try their sushi next!

I've only eaten at this location once. I won't be returning. The food was ok, but my chicken was chewy. You also pay EXTRA for fried rice here. What usually costs us $30 ended up costing $50. If you want to eat at Fujiyama, make the trek to Beckley.

The food was rather bland. However, it might have been the food I ordered. I did get food poisoning from eating here, so it'll be a while before I think about returning to this establishment.
