    When I first saw this place I was a little hesitant, but after deciding to go I don't regret it. The staff is extremely friendly, service is quick, and the food is amazing. I have been back a couple more times, and you can bet I will continue to stop by more often. I have introduced this place to more coworkers, and they would rather go here than bigger chains. I only wish they would add a platter to their menu. I highly recommend this place, especially if you are passing through and you don't know when you will be back in town.

    Incredibly bad. I had the rib platter.... I think this was the worse BBQ I had in my life. The ribs were burnt, lots of bbq sauce to cover up the burnt ribs, the collar greens had no flavor, and the baked beans were just okay. I am very surprised this place has such high reviews. This is what attracted me to this place. When I drove up I almost didn't go in. But the glowing reviews made me reconsider. I'm sorry I didn't go with my first mind. Customer service was good. I told them the food wasn't good and one of the new girls that worked there tried everything she could to make it right. Based on the food I would not recommend.

    We are traveling this next week to go to Chicago and WILL Stop back at Blues BBQ on our way home. Last time we thought we will jut bring home 1 lb of BBQ Pork. Big Misstakes. Once we turned our friends onto this BBQ it was gone in minutes so we will stop on our way home and bring at least 10lbs home. Our friends as we do look forward to this wondeful BBQ. If you are looking forward to vinegar based BBQ, forget it, but if you are looking forward to St Louis, Memphis BBQ than this is a jewel in the rough. Yes it has a great sausey BBQ but if you were raised in the South/ Memphis and ST Louis than this is

    Shocked that this place has been given 5 star reviews. Must be from people who don't know what good food is supposed to taste like. I ordered a 2 meat plate with chicken and brisket, fries and potato salad for the sides. The chicken was pulled, similar to pulled pork. It was over-seasoned and soggy, and way too salty. The brisket didn't seem like brisket, at least it wasn't cut traditionally. It looked over done, and was very tough to eat. It looked like a roast cut as opposed to brisket, and it certainly wasn't tender. It was topped with onions and a Kraft cheese slice which was very surprising. the sides were typical for a BBQ joint. For the price we paid, I expected way way better.

    Spent the night in South Charleston recently. Decided that we wanted BBQ for dinner and found Blues BBQ. The place is located in a strip mall and does not look inviting, but once inside, the staff is friendly and the food is very good. The half rack of ribs was prefect. Strongly suggest Blues if you are looking for Memphis style BBQ in South Charleston.

    The ribs are small for $22 - I only got about 8 bones. In a ribs festival, $22 gets you a full slab (12+ bones). It is also not smokey, overcooked (meat falling of the bone in a bad way, because there is no meat/fat left). Pull pork sandwich is the way to go in this place, cheap, nice portion, and taste better than the ribs.

    The original location downtown was closed so we found a second location just outside of town that was next to a gas station. Not fancy, order off the wall, sit in plastic booths. Not a huge menu. But wow, great onion rings and great pulled pork BBQ and chicken sandwiches. Great baked beans also plus a decent selection of ice cold bottled beer to wash it all down. With only a few tables and booths, they probably do most of their business as take out.

    Been staying in a hotel in a South Charleston strip mall on and off the past few weeks. I don't think its overstating things that this town isn't exactly a dining mecca. That said, after eating out every meal for 12 or so days, I think i'm qualified to say that Blues BBQ should be on your short list of dining destinations in the South Charleston area. After we finished work, we called up to see if they were open, and a nice lady (who turned out to be the waitress) answered and said that they were thinking about closing, but that they'd stay open for us if we hustled. So hustle we did. This place looks like a BBQ joint is supposed to: bad lighting, wierd location, and a hodgepodge of "art". The three of us got in and ordered quickly--and thoroughly, ordering a Rack of Ribs, a BBQ & Slaw "sampler", half a BBQ'ed chicken, A pound of Beans, a Pound of Greens, a bunch of beers and some cheese fries (why cheese fries? cause we're pigs). The BBQ came out first, in three flavors: "Blues" style, which was a tomato-ey and fairly mild; an "East Carolina" style, more of a classic mustard 'cue; and a "West Virginia" style (which was delicious, but I cant really remember what was going on with it in my Pork-coma now). I think i preferred the Carolina, but they were all good. The slaws were nice and fresh tasting, one being a typical vinegar-ey cabbage, and the other was almost like a fresh kimchee. The ribs were delicious. A little saucier then I typically like, but with excellent flavor and nice texture--delicate, but not melting in your mouth. To those who are saying the ribs were not "falling off the bone", you should stop going out for BBQ, and just order some soup. Truthfully we never made it to the chicken, or much of the fries, and we ended up with a cardboard box full of leftovers (good sign, IMO). They even threw a couple of desserts in with our doggie box, which was super nice. If I ever find myself in Charleston again (deep breath), I'll be back. e.

    This is a gem in West Virginia. I've been here once before and had the pulled pork BBQ which is really good. You have your choice of a Vinegar-molasses based, mustard, or tomato based sauces for the pulled pork. This time I had a half rack of ribs which were outstanding. Smoked just right, slathered in a great sauce and fall off the bone good. If you try to cut apart separate ribs the bone falls through the meat. You can definitely tell it's been slow cooked to perfection. I'm not a cole slaw connaisseur, but I really like their home made stuff! And the baked beans are something different/special because of their molasses based sauce. This is truly my favorite hole in the wall type of joint in the area and will start eating here at least once a month!

    Today was my first trip but I'll definitely be back. You know a BBQ joint can't be bad when you smell the cooked pork as soon as you walk in. Blues offers "Blues BBQ" (ketchup based) and "Williamsburg Style," both pulled pork sandwiches. The friendly lady at the register described the Williamsburg style as vinegar based, and since I love Eastern NC BBQ I went with that. It's vinegar based, but not your typical Eastern NC BBQ sauce. I'd say it's somewhere in between ketchup based and Eastern NC. The sandwich is a good size, especially for the price. I got the greens for the side and they were adequate.

    I was dissapointed by most of the experience, especially after some of the glowing reviews. I went with my husband and between the two of us I think I ate enough dishes for a fair represnation of the menu. Ribs - did not fall of the bone, had ok flaovr and the bbq sauce was just poured on top - it was not as if they had been truly basted. BBQ - They have several different kinds and the waiter brought us all 4 to taste them. Our favorite (and the one we ended up ordering) was the traditionally sauced pork bbq. It was probably the best thing we ate from the trip. Downside is that I prefer my bbq to not be as heavily sauced as they pre-sauce their bbq. The sides in my opinion were completely horrible - the collard greens tasted as if they came from a can, mac and cheese was made with processed cheese product and had a very odd consistency, the cole slaw had taken on a weird pink color from the red cabbage they used with it and was pretty watery and also too much like vinegar. The potato salad was not memorable. Our server was a younger guy, maybe high school age and he was really sweet and attentive. I give the service a thumbs up. The place is only moderately clean. The salt and pepper shakers both had rust encrusting the holes on top. A plastic container of vinegar was brought to our table and the top was also encrusted with dust and food particles (needless to say we stayed far away from it) and the trays that our food came on had old bbq sauce in the corners which showed that they do not wash the trays after each use. Maybe some of the food issues can be attributed to it being a slow day and maybe they were not turning over food as quickly, however the experience was bad enough for me that I would not recommend and would not go back.

    I stopped by Blues BBQ as a pitstop on a road trip and I definitely wasn't disappointed. This hole in the wall offers great fall-off-the bone ribs. Prices are reasonable too - $25 gets you a full rack of pork ribs that can definitely be split between two people. The sauce is somewhere between a vinegar and ketchup based BBQ sauce. The baked beans are also excellent. All around recommended.

    I've had a hankering for BBQ for a while now. Being new to the area I decided to try out the local fare. This place was near so I called ahead and ordered. I am a huge fan of pork (ok I'm actually obsessed) So I ordered a pound of pork along with 2 fries for my girlfriend and I. Along with this came some slaw (love the strong vinegar flavor and the fact that it is shredded and not minced down like so many places I've come across in West Virginia) and 4 buns. The lady at the counter was real nice and we chatted about food for a bit. Me being a chef I am always eager to talk food. I thought the flavor was good. The only complaint I have is the texture. I like my pork to be a bit chunky and not so stringy. I honestly believe that 3 stars is fair if not a bit short. Next time I will try the ribs or from what I hear the jerk chicken and see if I can justly give more than 3 stars.

    Amazing!!! The meat melt off the bone and the slaw has great flavor. The beans also have great flavor! The only complaint the BBQ sauce tasted a little burnt.

    Ribs are OK, would be better if they were fresh smoked. Owners are nice and chatty. Very small selection of beers but some craft beers are available. Sauces are very good.

    My wife and I were passing through Charleston and were hungry for BBQ. Read the reviews and it sounded good. The reviews were right, great stuff. Had the Pork sandwich, was a little spicier than normal but really good. The collard greens were outstanding as well, the sweet tea was great to wash it all down. Wait staff is friendly, and the place is really laid back. Would definitely recommend this to all who like good BBQ.
