Classic Northwoods supper club - it needs to be cast in a film. Total comfort food. Had both breakfast and supper here. This is the real deal - not for those who give Applebees 4-5 stars. If you're looking for something local and authentic, and need a lot of tasty food on your plate, don't hold out in hopes you'll come across something better in town.

This place is old school. Solid food, huge menu, friendly service. Try the open faced Ruben. The place has been here forever and has never disappointed.

One of my favorite places in Rhinelander! I go here enough now that I'm recognized by some of the staff! I love the bar and the drinks are spot on! The food rocks too! Chicken Parmesan is fab! Loaded with cheese, the tender breaded chicken is great! I tried the spaghetti with meat sauce on a recommendation from our server and it did not disappoint. Slightly unusual because they use sausage and beef...yum! Fish fry is a staple on Fridays and it's also great! Chicken Oscar! Where can you get chicken Oscar anymore? Here! The filet is huge and cooked to order perfectly! And don't forget dessert! They have homemade pies! Coconut cream!!!! EAT HERE!!

This is an old line steak house that's been here forever, well, since 1911, anyway. Rhinelander is the family homestead, and The Old Man used to frequent this establishment when he lived here. He wouldn't recognize the place, it burned out in 1973 and was rebuilt and expanded at that time. But one thing has remained consistent - good food. The wait staff is always friendly, the tables are bussed quickly and there is always a neat, clean appearance to the cafe. The decor is dark and based on a maritime theme. Well, why not? You're in lake country and most of the customers are probably boaters in one way of another. I started out with a cup of stuff potato soup, I never had anything quite like it before. Think of a stuffed baked potato that got made into soup and you've got it. Flavorful without too much salt. For an entree, I had the walleye, broiled, excellent as usual. It had a slight "fishy" taste to it when I started, in all fairness, on the tail. A couple of bites and suddenly the walleye was fresh and favorable. My walleye was prepared with a sprinkle of paprika which adds to the presentation. It was served with a special mashed potato mixed with various vegetables. The Old Man would be proud of recommending it.

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon passing through town. This place was great the staff was super friendly and professional. We ordered drinks beer on tap. It was ice cold and perfect, and a Bloody Mary. Check out the picture it looked awesome and tasted awesome. we order the roast beef sandwiches they were served on a focaccia bread with a homemade cheese spread. It was the best beef sandwich I've ever had! The decor was cool, styled like a cross between an Irish pub and a vintage boat theme. 5 stars because of location. You'd be hard pressed to find something better with in a 2 hour drive.

We stopped in for a late breakfast as we drove through town. The pancakes were some of the best I've ever had! Veggie Omelette was FANTASTIC! Service was excellent and staff was friendly. My ONLY complaint is where we were seated. We were placed in a booth that was in the corner near the kitchen door. Normally, that's not a big deal, except here, they've placed the restaurant's POS system right next to the table. So every 90 seconds, servers were standing right next to our table placing their orders & talking to each other. Plus, they kept the carpet sweeper against the wall next to the booth, so there was constantly someone coming over to use that. It made our entire meal very awkward & uncomfortable. The restaurant should either move the POS & sweeper or just eliminate that booth.

Consistently good food. The steaks are delicious and the Friday fish fry is worth the wait. I like the atmosphere, it's more of a nautical theme and it is dimly lit. There are plenty of options on the menu and everyone will find something they like. Fresh baked pies finish a generous entree. If you're looking for a nicer place to eat in Rhinelander, definitely place this high on your list of considerations.

Took an hour and a half to get lunch on a Tuesday. The problem was definitely our server, as other tables came and went at a reasonable pace. Bottom bun of all sandwiches were completely soaked by the time they arrived, obviously sat around for quite some time before we got them.

Great French Dip sandwich made with real prime rib ( which is offered 7 nights a week). Perfect with a traditional Chocolate Malted Shake . Homemade soups too - and on the day we were here, complimentary dessert - yummy brownies. Good food at reasonable prices. Old World ambience - and efficient service.

Older icon restaurant that makes you feel like you're stepping back into early 1960s. Server was friendly and upbeat dealing with holiday weekend visitors. 1919 root beer served in icy cold mugs was delicious. Food was ... meh. My order medium burger was charred and well done; however sweet potato fries were nice with right crunch. Battered cod was good, but fried scallops were overdone; the side of coleslaw was tasty. Pub special sandwich was a delicious French dip and fries were decent too.

I think this is the best Rhinelander Wisconsin has to offer. I had the Rib Eye steak and it was very good. My wife got her first taste of fried cheese curds and I think she is a fan. She also had the Prime Rib and loved it. Older decor but clean and very friendly (how could any place in the North Woods of Wisconsin NOT be friendly) We had a very good dinner for a very good price. I had rated this as three stars but then realized I would gladly eat here again and again.

What can you say? Rhinelander Pub is celebrating their 100 year anniversary in 2011. Quite the accomplishment. The food is decent. Unimaginative, but reasonable. The soup was very good, and the rest of the meal (burgers, a steak, and potatoes) was average. This is basic, standard fare. It won't blow your socks off, but it will satisfy your appetite. The service is pleasant and prompt. The waitress was old enough to be my Grandmother and then some, but this was somehow comforting. It was nice to see an establishment that employs those who want to get out and work. The decor is something to be seen. Nothing has changed since at least the early 70's. This may sound like a negative, but somehow it works for the Rhinelander Pub. It is old school and dated, but it works for this place because despite that, it is clean, well kept, and although "out of style", somehow feels current and comforting.

Went here on a trip to the Cranberry festival in Eagle River, a Saturday night. The sign on the door says they have been in business since 1911. The restaurant is decorated as described here, a cafe in the morning with a coffee counter in front, dark paneling, 1970 decoration, plaid carpet..in short everyting an up north supper club should be. We both had prime rib, Caesar salad, I had green beans, my wife had gorgeous Au Gratin potatoes. The food was spot on for what we had, was served in a timely fashion, tasted great and was not expensive. We didn't have to dress up or sustain blows from snotty, pretentious staff. The place was packed with nice people and the kitchen put everyting out like clockwork. We got much more than we expected...

Red glass candle holders, a bar, and choice of potato place the Rhinelander Cafe & Pub firmly in supper club territory (but with the benefit of also being open for breakfast and lunch). Reasonable prices, dark wood paneling, and an ancient waitress added to the charm, and everyone was pleased with their meal. My only gripe is that I ordered my sandwich without Swiss cheese (it had American as well), but ended up getting only Swiss. Wah-wah. The rest of the sandwich was great, so it wasn't worth it to me to send it back to the kitchen and waste it. On your way out, be sure to go around back and take some pictures with the Hodag, Rhinelander's mythical mascot.

My family (3 adults and 2 senior citizens) went to the Pub with an 11:30am reservation. We all ordered egg - based meals (omelet, scrambled eggs x 2, eggs over easy, eggs benedict). One of our party requested egg beaters. The waitress told her that wasn't on the menu, it was. One person requested bacon cooked very well, nearly burned. Four of the party had coffee and one had a soda. The first pot of coffee was not even warm. The waitress did not come back after taking the order to refill drinks, one of our party actually brought the coffee pots up to one of the other staff to request a refill after waiting about fifteen minutes. After placing our orders, the waitress did not provide any type of bread or cracker basket. Our meals were brought out from the kitchen at 12:21pm. The waitress finally offered to refill drinks when she brought the meals out. The egg dishes were satisfactory. The bacon was not cooked as requested. Two of our party had cold hash browns. Despite the very long wait, poor service, and mediocre food, we were not offered any apology or discount. The restaurant was uncomfortably cold, and very dark. This is not a restaurant that I would recommend.

I wanted to like this place, I really did. The charm of a 100+ yr old restaurant, the plaid carpets, the odd deep sea decor (diving bell), the nice bar tender and waitstaff... But the food fell short. I had the Italian wedding soup, which tasted like it came from a can, and the pub special--a French Dip smothered in cheese and onions--both of which were flavorless. The bartender kept offering me salt, as if he knew I'd need it. The worse was the Au gratin potatoes: cubes of boiled potatoes covered in a cheese sauce. At least the wait staff and the beer was good.

My family has been visiting that area between Rhinelander and Eagle River for 25 plus years, mainly Sugarcamp Lake area. After several bad experiences with local supper clubs, we visited a proven local restaurant that the residents go to. Very comfortable setting, prompt seating and attentative waitress staff. They actually know how to make an Old Fashion (pressed) drink. They have daily specials which are limited and go fast which is understandable. I had the 16oz. blackened ribeye that was cooked perfectly, with garlic mashed and cream of mushroom soup that was homemade. Its nice to know that when you plan dinner in the Northwoods, you can always bank on Rhinelander cafe. I look forward to eating there and hope they go another 82 years..

In the Rhinelander area on vacation and asked some locals for a recommendation and many said Cafe and Pub. My boys enjoyed their meals plus their free ice cream for cleaning their plates. My chicken sandwich with provolone on sour dough was delicious. The rueben sandwich was ginormous and tasty. Will come back again when in the area. Everyone was friendly and prompt service.

Located in downtown Rhinelander, the Rhinelander Cafe & Pub impressed me with its quality service and its atmosphere. Upon entering the Pub, I was welcomed by its warm atmosphere, that is characterized by its wood ornamentation and casual feel... Pulling up a seat to the bar, I was impressed by their drink/spirit selection and their extensive menu that had everything from lobster and steak to something as simple as a greek salad. I opted for their special which was a french dip with provolone cheese, onions, and mushrooms. I wasn't in the mood for steak fries so they allowed me to substitute it with a side salad at no extra charge. The meal was filling, tasty, and happily paired with one of their tap beers... I found their staff extremely accommodating and friendly... Compared to some of the bars nearby, I felt instantly comfortable and "at home" in this pub. I will be returning soon.

Horribly overpriced and boring. As average as it gets although town regulars will tell you it's the place to go. Check out Holiday Acres for a real nice dinner.

One of the last of a dying breed of supper club style joints left in this neck of the northwoods and one of the handful of places left in Rhinelander where one can receive a high quality meal. The food is usually pretty good and the atmosphere is hard to beat: sparsely lit, fish mounts on the walls, low ceiling, booths and tables sprawling and good cheer.

My sis, bro in law and I stopped here today for lunch. It was hopping! Friendly server took our orders in a timely manner and the wait wasn't long considering how busy the place was. I had an open faced Reuben with sweet potato fries; both were very good. The burger my sister had was huge and she was happy with it as well. When visiting downtown Rhinelander, this is a good choice for a meal!

An OK place for downtown Rhinelander. I had the lamb shank special one night that was very good. You should maybe reconsider ordering the lasagna though. It is sweet and salty, which I prefer in my candy bars, not my lasagna. One night a week they have an accordion player. The music is LOUD, and he only takes a 5 minute break, so there's little reprieve from the music. Its nice to listen to for the first few songs, but then... The atmosphere is VERY authentic Northwoods Supper Club as described in another review.

Okay, edit. Second night here was one of the best dining experiences of my life. The staff is beyond friendly. The bartender introduced my party to all the local beverages. This was by far one of the best nights I've had while traveling the country (and I travel a LOT). Loved the blackened rib eye steak and scalloped potatoes. Bar staff was super friendly (waitress wasn't but it seemed like she was just having a bad night). The real treat was Larry Jarkowski the Electronic Orchestra! Floppy disks and a smooth jazzy keyboard made this our favorite place to eat in Rhineland! Also bonus points for the plaid carpet.
