Hidden gem in town! 16 years here and this was sadly my first time here! I'm reluctant to call it a greasy spoon or hole in the wall, but those are the words that come to mind that best describe it... it is neither greasy or a hole... the place is not a dinner though. It is a friendly and welcoming mom and pop place loving run by what i think are couple in the early 40's who are really doing a great job of passionately turning out home made plates of heaping love... too much...I think not! If you watch this duo...they are doing it for the love of doing it and trying hard to do it all on shoe string without compromising on quality where it counts.... in personality and on the plate! Incredible food by locals, for anyone who appreciates the passion and hard work of service done right... these two are my list of heroes in town!

Really great little diner! Food was awesome and tasted really fresh. It is hard to imagine that only three people run this entire diner! Our waitress Danni was super friendly and even offered us homemade strawberry jam that another customer had made just for them. You can sit up front and watch Benny cook everything on a small grill. Given how small that grill is, their menu has such an I had the cajun rajun omelette. It was delicious, it was cheesy and full of chorizo, chicken and andouille sausage. Benny's hashbrowns are out of this world! A member of our family also ordered the pancakes and they were huge! There were fluffy and soft and went very well with the homemade jam. I would definitely recommend stopping to have breakfast at this little gem the next time you are in Oconomowoc.

Who doesn't want to love a place called the Burnt Toast Cafe? Maybe it should be called the Wrong Toast Cafe. My girlfriend and I ate here for lunch and the first thing that happened was she sat in a chair covered in syrup. They did come over and clean it off but they used a rag that looked very dirty and greasy. As we sat there I started to notice that this place seemed very dysfunctional. The waitress and her helper appeared very unhappy and griping to one another. What really bothered me though was the unsanitary conditions in the restaurant. The floor was very very dirty and sticky and appeared as if it had not been cleaned in quite some time. I saw the sweaty busgirl/runner carrying raw uncovered meat from the back through the restaurant and this did not look sanitary. She had a filthy brown rag hanging out of her back pocket. Every time she walked past us I was afraid she was going to brush the filthy rag against us or our food. I asked the waitress for a side of sour cream and when she brought it she slid it across the table leaving a streak of it on the table and when I brought it to her attention she grabbed a disgusting dirty brown rag to wipe it up. The whole place was grimy and humid. Seems to me this place could use a visit from the Health Inspector. When we got our meals...a Western Burger and the Roadhouse omelette we were pretty disappointed. The Western Burger is advertised as having an onion ring on it but instead had charred black pieces of onion. The Roadhouse omelette wasn't an omelette at all and it didn't have any chili on it as advertised just a couple pinto beans. On top of all that the soda was flat. We won't go back until this place gets a visit from Restaurant Impossible.

Very small but has that old fashioned diner feel. You actually can see your food being made, you don't see that anymore. Danny the server is definately was attentive and entertaining. Great place and great food. I don't know where that 1 star reviewer ate, but it wasn't here! Highly recommend.

Don't miss this experience! Not only great food made fresh, from scratch and with love but great ambiance. The type of place you hope for when traveling to different communities. Diners, Drive Ins and Dives should check this out. Benny at the grill and Danny as our server made for a truly fun experience. As much entertainment as dining.

Used to be good. Went horribly downhill since it apparently changed owners or managers again. The menu is the same but the food SUCKS. Big coffee creamer jugs out on the tables... warm (?!?). Pretty certain the food gave me food poisoning. Will NEVER go again. Should be shut down by the health inspector. The decor used to be cute and homey, now big ugly old wood booths are crammed in. Too bad... used to be awesome.

Burnt Toast Cafe is the only place I have ever been that asks you how you want your bacon cooked (just on the crispy side of floppy), and actually cooks it that way! Benny is not only the most gracious host in Oconomowoc, but he is the most hilarious at the same time. He definitely made two California boys feel welcome when we were lost in the Midwest. So much french toast on one plate you could feed a small army, but it's so good you eat it all yourself. I wouldn't eat breakfast anywhere but Burnt Toast any time I visit Oconomowoc.

If you haven't guessed by now, my wife and I are big fans of a good breakfast restaurant, and this is good breakfast restaurant. Traditional diner style with an emphasis on fresh food, cooked to order on a tiny grill. One of the most fun part is sitting at the lunch counter and making small talk with the owner, as he puts together his creations. The decor is a little outdated and I hope that as time goes on the new owners decide to update the space. The service was great and personable. The food was solid breakfast food, good sized portions without it being overly large. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. If you are looking for inventive takes on traditional classic, go somewhere else, if you are looking for well done traditional classics, Burnt Toast Cafe is the place to be.

Some uncooked egg in omelet, sourdough toast not homemade, and a filthy floor. Nice people need to make some improvement
