I had the good fortune to be treated to dinner here while on a recent business trip, and I couldn't have asked for a better overall dining experience. I was unfamiliar with the concept of supper clubs, but apparently they're a pretty big deal in Wisconsin. Now I see why. I loved this place before I made it in the door. It's situated in a quiet, heavily treed area overlooking a beautiful lake. Our group of 6 arrived early enough to grab a front row table on the patio, which provided us with a perfect view of the lake, complete with ducks, geese, and the occasional passing boat off in the distance. This provided the perfect backdrop for drinks, dinner and conversation, and then, just as we finished up, it went from serene to spectacular as the sun set over the water. As luck would have it, they were hosting a wine tasting on the patio, so that was a great way to kick things off. I ordered the French onion soup to start, then the prime rib, rare of course, with an add-on of scallops and a baked sweet potato. Everything was absolutely perfect. I usually try to balance my good reviews with at least one minor nitpick, but honestly, as they say, I got nuthin'. I tried to pass on desert, but there was key lime pie. I never pass on key lime pie. And I'm glad I didn't. This place is an absolute must if your travels take you anywhere nearby. No ifs, ands, or buts; if you're in the area, you need to eat here. It will make you wish you lived here (well, at least in the spring and summer).

This is an old Wisconsin Supper Club, Dated but Cozy right on the Lake. Its proximity to several camping resorts dictates its menu pricing..we stopped today on the way back from The Fuzzy Pig in Whitewater,Wi. We had never been into The Buckhorn before this trip, as I said above its Dated But Cozy, the bar is a good size with great seating and the bartenders make you feel at home... being that it was Sunday they opened at 12noon...great for us we were hungry for LUNCH! That is where I digress except for a few salads they really had only burgers/sandwiches for lunch, as I refuse to spend $$ 12.99 for a burger we were very disappointed. I asked them about the New York Strip Dinner ($34.99) about its size 14oz that better be a GREAT Steak..well down the road to somewhere else. PS; the Bloody Mary's are pretty good.

Food was good but nothing spectacular. VERY pricey for the quality. Drinks pricey too. Wouldn't stop here again. Much better choices within the area

I don't even know where to begin! If I could give this another star I would. I ate here with my family and my girlfriend and they have delicious steak! It's so good! Their wait staff and bartenders have a good sense of humor and they are always willing to talk up a good conversation. If you go during the summer, get an outdoor seat to see the sunset on the lake. Even in June you'll want to bring a sweatshirt because it gets chilly fast outside!

  • Dinner For 6.

So our group went here for my wife's birthday. We had a 6:30 reservation and finally got seated at 7:10. Not a good start, although our waitress was very friendly. We ordered an appetizer of onion rings which were just ok and after a half and hour we finally got our soups and salads. At 8:30 our main entrees arrived. The food was average, definitely not worth the price. The staff was very friendly, and the view of the lake was awesome.

Went for their Friday night fish fry. First and last time we will go. Good: -Rolls were good. -Clam chowder was quite good. Bad: -Fish (cod) was not good. It was obviously frozen and prebreaded. It was dry and had freezer burn. -fries were soggy -service was bad. Our so called waitress didn't visit our table once other than to take our order, bring food, and bring the check. No drink refills, no "how's the food", no do you want dessert, nothing. She was more busy talking to the apparent regulars. The best service we got was from a bus-girl! She at least got us ketchup, asked how we were doing and got me some mustard. We gave her the tip instead of our waitress! -EXPENSIVE! The fish fry price for 3 piece was high for what you got but not outrageous. Their normal menu prices were insane. You could eat at Harvest or 43 North for less and get better food. Given all the excellent choices for Friday night fish fry in the area, there is no reason to go here.

Wow! Old fashioned Wi supper club with truly fantastic fare. Last time we were there hubby ordered prime rib and he said it rivaled Lawry's in Chicago and I tried a bite & agreed! That meat was melt-in-your-mouth! I was all geared-up to get some good lake fish but one of the specials was halibut and I can never turn down a good halibut. Was not disappointed. Fantastic, fresh & perfectly prepared fish. Good mixed drinks. And the waitresses there know what they're doing-no amateurs allowed. Weather-permitting, dine al fresco on the lake. Lovely!

All I can say about the reviews is that those folks must not have functional taste buds. This is, perhaps, the worst food I have wet tasted...in my life...and I was in the Army for five years. My first two menu choices, duck and ribs, were sold out. The server had no clue about the two, yes two, beers they had on draft. My girlfriend was treated rudely for being a vegetarian. My 3rd choice, seared ahi with wasabi sauce, tasted like what I would imagine hot garbage would taste like. Inedible. I didn't it even bring my leftovers home for the dog. I would've ordered something else, but everyone else hated their food. These prices are criminal for the quality. The view was nice..except for the onslaught of mosquitos. This place wouldn't last 2 months in Chicago or any real metropolitan area. How it's lasted this long in this area is beyond me. Epically terrible. Wow.

I would like to start with the excellent service that we had at the bar, a must stop before any meal at a supper club. My husband and I had dinner with a lake view next the the fire place. We ordered Crab Legs and Prime Rib. My husband said it was the best prime rib that he ever had, melt in your mouth good. The crab legs were split and very good as well. Dinner comes with soup or salad and a potato or veg. Our server, Liz, gave us excellent service and was very attentive. We did purchase their supper club book for 35.00, that the author and owner signed, and received 10.00 off our meal with the book purchase. The owner stopped by our table to introduce himself. Overall the experience was great. We will be back. Thank you Buckhorn for a memorable evening.

I went for the fish fry. Your choice of two or three piece fried cod, slaw and potato. You also get fresh rolls which were really fresh. The quality was good but the price was way too high. I believe $12.95 for the two piece and $5 for a craft beer. The menu section of the website is down as of this writing. Very Wisconsin supper club like atmosphere on the water. It is a seasonal place which explains the high prices which is why I only gave it two stars. Unless they lower their prices, I won't be back unfortunately. And no handicap parking place.

Delicious steaks (prime rib, yum!), fish, and soups! Great all-around dinner in Wisconsin! Desserts aren't too shabby either.

We found the Buckhorn Supper Club on Lake Koshkonong via Ron Faiola's - Wisconsin Supper Clubs book. I shared some efficient communication with Shelley via their Facebook page while making reservations. Since this was our first time, we double checked our route - but really not necessary as Buckhorn Supper Club is conveniently located less than a five minute drive off of I90 at exit 163. Take 59 East and follow the well lit signs. Our table was ready on arrival but we wanted to take a few minutes and visit the bar and sample a Wisconsin tradition - a brandy old fashioned. While we were sipping our cocktails, enjoying the sweeping views of Lake Koshkonong, Chico - the Buckhorn patriarch, stopped by to introduce the Buckhorn and welcome us - what a nice personal touch. Chico shared some "Buckhorn history", the outside terrace and lake views, and some brief adventures of their 17 years of ownership. Chico, Dawn, Shelley, and Kevin all took time to sign our copy of Wisconsin Supper Clubs - fun. We were seated at a window table and promptly greeted by Kim. Kim reviewed the specials of the evening, collected our drink and appetizer order while our questions about the Buckhorn and then she shared this Mark Twain quote - "Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life." - very refreshing to hear how much she enjoys her job and working for the Pope family. We were definately enjoying our visit. Our Bluegill filets / appetizer were served with our cocktails - Southern Comfort Old Fashioned and a local beer with color and body. Tasty. For dinner she had the Chilean Sea Bass with a house salad and baked potato and he had the Friday Night Fish Fry with a house salad, home made thousand island dressing and fries. The presentations were excellent and the food was delicious - what we could eat of it - we opted to take some home with us. Kim was wonderful and is a gracious ambassador for the Buckhorn Supper Club, she was attentive and responsive without being obtrusive. When she stopped to check after the initial entree service, she asked, "Is everything the way you'd like it tonight?" - I found it to be an exceptionally professional twist on "How's everything?" - well done Kim. Great location, Great people, Great service, Great food - equals an exceptional Wisconsin dining experience. We had a lot fun and really enjoyed our evening with the hospitable Pope family. Take the time to visit Buckhorn Supper Club and enjoy some "Old Fashioned" Wisconsin hospitality - I am confident you'll enjoy your visit.

Very friendly service and good food. The bar looked phenomenal but we stuck near our table and enjoyed the prime rib and lobster special. The staff was the best thing about this place--and the atmosphere.

Ate here last night, it was awesome! Loved the Buckhorn amber, our server was knowledgeable and very friendly. The food was great, we had onion rings, prime rib and the crab stuffed rainbow trout ( a special). We enjoyed the bar as well!

If overpriced MEDIOCRE food is your thing, enjoy. Terrible experience, save your $$$. This place fails miserably as a high end establishment. You can't eat the mood lighting and the nice lake view, which is all they have to sell.
