The food is worth the price. They don't kid around here. When you order a three-cheese-stuffed french toast, hold on, baby. You are going to melt! The first time that I went, I ordered the breakfast wrap. Yum. My s/o had the stuffed french toast. Let me tell you- that made for absolutely fantastic leftovers, even eaten cold! The owner (I forget his name, ) constantly moves about, entertaining and engaging his guests. The walls are filled with kitchy stuff that's pretty much all for sale. The place fills up early, so the sooner the better. The next time I'm visiting the Door, I'm making a trip here for breakfast again. Oh yeah- coffee's okay too. So's the cherry jam. Yum!

Big menu, including eggs, pancakes, french toast, and omelettes. I had biscuits (which were cold), sausage, and the cafe breakfast potatoes, which were so crusted with spices that it was almost painful to eat them...and I like spicy things! I had to scrape some of it off to enjoy. The order of potatoes was so big that I shared with my family, who ordered egg combos and were pleased with their choices. This place is also tchotchke heaven. It's like your nutty aunt 's house (the one who likes signs that say things like "You don't have to be crazy to work here but it helps" and pillows with "This house ruled by one spoiled cat") times a thousand. Definitely something for everyone on the menu; next time I'd choose something aside from the biscuits and potatoes.

One dines at the Village Cafe mostly for the eclectic atmosphere and the location. There are not that many choices for a casual breakfast or lunch in this stretch of Door County. As a result, I find the food to be no better than average and the service to be less so. There was nothing wrong with any of my visits but on the other hand, nothing remarkable about my experiences stood out. I will stop here for a meal when I am in the neighborhood, but more often than not will choose to drive further up or down the road.

A very friendy & colorful place. As a vegetarian, it's always good to see a place that offers plenty of veggie options that actually taste good. This place has it all & it is all great tasting. The kids loved it! My only recommendation to them is that they can do with a little more 'blue & orange' on the men's room walls!!

Village Cafe saved the day when we were desperately looking for breakfast after 11am in the 'off season' of Door County. The food was good, my girlfriend had Heuvos Rancheros and I had French Toast (my favorite breakfast ever) and some breakfast potatoes. All of these were cooked capably and were very tasty. The potatoes were the best part of the meal for me. I'd definitely go back.

Fabulous restaurant that never disappoints!!! Food is great and service is wonderful. Great place for breakfast (don't miss the cherry pancakes) and lunch. Decor is super fun. Can't wait to go back! This place is a keeper!!

Great breakfast, french toast was fab!!! My youngest had eggs\toast the eggs were done exactly the way he loves them. The potatos my husband and older son had with breakfast were alittle to spicy for that time of day but the rest was great. The owner walked around making sure everything was ok. Will go back when we visit again.

Very excited to see lots of vegetarian options on the menu. Huevos Rancheros were pretty good (black beans are veg). The best part of my meal was the wheat toast and cherry jam. This cherry jam that they use is the best jam I've ever tasted!! They sell it, and I bought a couple of jars to bring home. Friend loved her Tuna Melt.

Sad about the downfall of this place. Giving it two stars out of nostalgia. I actually worked at Village Cafe for a summer a few years back, but in the years since, the owners seem to have bitten off more than they can chew with new ventures, and the quality (staff, food, atmosphere) has suffered accordingly. I used to unabashedly plug this as the best breakfast in Door County, but the last two times I've gone, I've been sorely disappointed. About a year ago my food was bland as could be, and looked hastily prepared. Wait staff had been snippy and acted put out when I asked for something as simple as ketchup. No matter how busy we were in the past when I worked there, we served every customer with grace and a smile and the waiters and cooks ensured every dish was perfect. When I went back today, it sealed the deal. I won't be back. I drove 2 hours round-trip from Green Bay to meet an out-of-town visiting friend here, so excited to share the breakfast with her. To start with, my waiter was ill-suited for the job - he seemed nervous and disorganized. I watched him have a terribly uncomfortable interaction with the table across from us, and then mix up the order for the table next to us twice. Other waiters on staff, save one, also seemed frazzled or unhappy to be working on a busy vacation-season morning. Our food took twice as long as normal to arrive, and when I bit into my french toast I actually began to tear up. Someone had entirely botched the batter! It was so salty it tasted like a brine. Thinking perhaps I was crazy, I had a friend try a bite. She too was disgusted and exclaimed it took half a cup of coffee to get rid of the flavor. I clearly explained the problem to the waiter twice, explaining the batter was ill-prepared, not my dish in particular. He took 20 minutes to return, informed me he still hadn't understood, and had "assumed" the staff would be re-making my order. He regretted to inform me he "missed" the announcement they wouldn't be serving french toast for the rest of the morning as they were too busy to re-make the batter. I was shocked. When I worked there I'd be in a bad, close-to-fired position for not only being that off my game, but telling a customer they're totally out of luck over 20 minutes later. I was already late to a morning meeting at this point, with my friends already finished eating. Needless to say I declined his offer of a "bran muffin to go" instead. The owners don't sufficiently delegate or train managers, and hire too many young teens to run the majority of their operations. The days of old when a handful of talented, experienced cooks split their time between Village Cafe and Villagios are gone. They seem to have a shortage of waiters skilled for the job, and it shows with a good chunk of their staff now ill-suited for the work. I'd avoid the Mojo Enterprises until the owners sort out their mess and go back to what was working beautifully in the past. Such a shame.

Great place to visit with the kids because there is so much decor to look at...ok and they'll want you to buy everything. Very fun atmosphere overall and a great brunch location (luckily they serve breakfast all day!) I'm glad I'd read the reviews here on Yelp before my visit because I happily ordered the French Pocket Toast. Wow. These are some jumbo pieces of French toast that have been stuffed with 3 cheeses (they don't list the cheeses but they are all sweet so I'm guessing cream cheese, marscapone and ricotta) and apricot jam before being rolled in granola and fried. Yummy.

We are semi-locals that vacation in Egg Harbor all the time. This was one of our favorite places for brunch, but in the past couple of years it seems like service and sometimes food has really gone down-hill. I'm hoping that giving feedback will help the owners know that they are going to have to address this if they want people to come back. Most recently I had a whole group of girls with me. We were lucky to ever see our server and at some point we asked a couple questions and he almost seemed like he was annoyed, said something quick then just abruptly walked away. Then he told us the wrong sandwich with the special, so my friend got something totally different than what she thought she ordered. She would have sent it back if we hadn't already waited so long for it. The my other friend had an omelet that supposedly had feta cheese, but no sign of any. She had to ask for some on the side. Some meals were good and some ok. This is disappointing because this really is a cute place and we really like it there, but they really need to up the bar on the food quality, detail and service.

Our group of ten came here for breakfast at the end of our Door County trip. I have to say, I really enjoyed the food. The eggs benedict were to die for, and the gal I was sitting right next to had an omelette with cream cheese and crab stuffing that was phenomenal! Lots of artwork from local artists is for sale here, which is always a bonus for me. Minus one star because our waiter was kind of flaky. Yes, there were a lot of us, but I didn't get even one coffee refill. Not like I was asking him for his firstborn or something.

This place is sooo good. I know the breakfasts are delicious or whatever, but I am not a breakfast-food person. (Seriously, I eat chili mac for breakfast at home.) I am here to tell you that lunch is also delicious. I had some kind of bean burger with cajun spices, and my boyfriend had a turkey cherry wrap thing, and they were both awesome. And the decor, as others have mentioned, is hilarious and weird. There aren't a ton of dining options in Egg Harbor, but the Village Café makes up for it.

I love the Village Cafe for breakfast. You have to get there early or you will be waiting for a table on most summer weekends. During the week the wait time is shorter, but in any case, it is worth the wait. If you have to wain, look around at their decor, it is fun and great. A good restaurant needs more than decor to keep people coming back, and the Village Cafe has great food. I eat mostly breakfast there and there is plenty of choices. Overall a great place to eat.

I stopped here on my way back to Chicago at the end of my road trip with my girlfriend. The decor is over the top I have to say. Pastels stuff everywhere. I had the french pocket toast. It tasted very good, but it wasn't a home run in my book. Though I have to say it was very filling. I would go there again.

Visited the cafe twice around July 4th, 2008. The decor is pretty over the top, with lots of pastels and 'cute' art strewn across the walls; much of the art is available for purchase. It may be a little much but just hold on until you get the food. Food to try: - Breakfast Sausage. Very nice flavor and texture. Typical order is 3 medium-sized links. - Baked Goods! We're talking: coffee cakes, carrot cakes, and even Tollhouse pie. Look/ask for their cakes. Since they are rather large - even splitting it with two people - be sure you have enough room for them before you order. - Spicy Potatoes. Instead of hash browns (flat and brown), I got hash the size of quarters that (I think) used some Curt's Table Spice* They were spicy but not overpowering. My biggest complaint is that some of the 'taters' were blackened, detracting from the overall flavor. *This spice is made in Door County and has garlic, salt, pepper, and ?? google around for curt's table spice door county I had spicy crab-cakes and cream cheese omelette one day and veggie benedict the other. Both recommended! The restaurant is usually a tad busy so you may have to prod your (or someone else's) server for things like coffee refills.

THE place for breakfast in Door County. Friendly and efficient service, great coffee, and plenty of artwork for sale on the walls so you can peruse while you wait. We've only gone to breakfast here, and everything is exceptional. The cherry or pumpkin pancakes, french toast, breakfast potatoes are wonderful. AND, this is one of the few restaurants that offers vegetarian breakfast sausages. Yum.

kind of the stand by breakfast-at-noon place in dc. usually there's a long wait in the summer on weekends. during the week or in the winter, you can get a seat any time (plus, they're actually open in the winter, which is a big thumbs up from me). the food is consistently good. i've had the omelettes numerous times and they are very tasty and come with a side of these delicious seasoned potatoes. the other meals don't come with these potatoes on the side (which is disappointing) and they actually cost like 3.50$ extra if you just get them a la carte (that's a lot!) so that's a bummer. the eggs benedict are a favorite of my late grandpa. they always look delicious so i'd probably try those some time too (although *plug* if you stay at the village green lodge in ephraim, sue makes the hands down best eggs benedict EVER *end plug*). my sig o got a simple 2 eggs and bacon platter when we went there last weekend and it seemed good. it came with 4 slices of bacon so that's a lot. i have to say sometimes i feel like the portions could be bigger. .. but i have kind of a big appetite, so maybe they're alright. also, if you want sugary sweetness with your breakfast, try the hot chocolate. my cousin always gets this when we go and it's delicious. it's served in a huge mug and comes with like a mountain of whipped cream on top. one star for consistently good food, one star for those delicious potatoes, and one star for being open in the winter. always a classic brunch stop for me.

I've been coming here for years. This place is always consistent in service and food. Be aware, you may have to wait for awhile to be seated. If you get the purple cup, you get free coffee/tea. Hours change according to the season.

This has been a must visit for years on our trips to door county. This last visit was not very good. When we sat down my water glass was filthy, and had to replaced. Our service was mediocre, and the coffee cake we ordered was forgotten until we reminded our server. I had the potato bowl, which was drowning in sprouts. The chunks of potato were huge, and underseasoned. My husband got standard breakfast fare, and his sausages were almost raw in the middle. Perhaps VC needs to go back to basics on cuisine, and spend less time buying chotskies. We won't give up on this joint, it's always been great until this stop.

Four stars. The food deserves five stars. The servers deserve three stars. I had high hopes for this place. The reviews I read were great. The craziness inside was fun to look at. The menu was delightful and had many options that would surely satisfy all people. The food placed in front of us was scrumptious, fresh, unique and plate licking good! The servers need a lesson in customer service. 95% of them were from Russia and do not know how to focus on the customer with friendliness, service, respect, and attention. Servers were rude and not accommodating. I suggest sitting on the patio instead of inside the actual restaurant.

We had breakfast here a day after brunch at the White Gull Inn. We prefer the Village Cafe, hands down! My husband had the Eggs Benedict and wasn't terribly impressed by the White Gull, but really enjoyed what the Village Inn prepared for him. I love the Village Inn's partnership with the Pink Bakery. I had french toast made with Pink Bakery cherry bread pudding, and it was second to none! There's no question where we'll choose to return for brunch.

Enjoyed a beautiful breakfast in this super cheery cafe! Our group of four had to wait just a few minutes during the breakfast rush, but we were promptly seated and our food was ready very quickly! Their breakfast potatoes are amazing! We all loved our breakfast and left full! I will definitely be back!!!

We had to wait for a bit. Server unattentive once we said we were just going to have coffee after they told us they had no gluten free options. It was hard to get a coffee refill. Guess having celiacs disease means i get horrible service. We are normally excellent tippers and would have tipped well on the coffee had we not felt like we were an irritation to them.

Traditional Door County breakfast place. It's small and cozy. The food was good but a little pricey. Service is generally by the younger summer import workers. All in all a good experience.

Man. this place is just so darling. So kitschy. I love how so many places in Door County are old houses rehabbed into stores or restaurants. It gives them an even more homey feel. I loved all the merch and that it didn't feel too cluttered even with all the stuff around. The food was really excellent. They're clearly known for their potato seasoning and I loved it. I love those kinds of russet breakfast potatoes. So good. The service was excellent. Jose was super helpful when my mom and I had questions about kayaking. He was a really sweet kid. Funny and kind. Also the manager, I'm assuming, who was in charge of seating was the nicest person ever. I know how stressful brunch can be and how much one may want to crawl in the fetal position at peak hours but she was so sweet and warm. I really liked this place and should I come back to Door County, I will absolutely dine here again.

The Village Cafe was recommended to us for a casual breakfast on the way home to Milwaukee this weekend. The place is a mishmash of all sorts of decor that you can buy-I think you could purchase anything right off the wall here. I can get past crazy decor if there is good service and food, but the dishes and silverware were dirty, our drinks forgotten, and the food not any better than a George Webbs.

Had breakfast this morning. I had blueberry pancakes they were good, with blueberries throughout that seemed to be fresh that was good. I also ordered a mocha, and the waiter tried to tell me it was made with coffee and not espresso, not a coffee person I still ordered it. It arrived it was topped with whipped cream ( seemed like canned) and sprinkled with chocolate chips, looking good. Should have listened to the waiter, it was really sweet and no coffee or chocolaty taste at all. My husband's breakfast had a large breakfast, don't know what it was called, some was good some eas bad. Potatoes were really good, eggs were okay, but sausage and bacon were soggy and cold. Probably wouldn't go back.

This place was a great find for a starving couple wandering around Door County! The owner was so nice and did a great job of checking up on tables. The food itself was fairly priced and above average for the area. Our meal took a while, but you could tell that everything was made from scratch. The decor was loud, but exactly what I want when I am on vacation. Both the egg dishes and the lunch/sandwich specials are outstanding! I wish we were staying closer to this place, because it would have been our daily brunch spot.

I stopped at the Village Cafe with my family this weekend after reading about them in the 2013 Egg Harbor Visitors Guide. The advertisement said that everything on the menu was under $10. As a young family of 5 on a budget, this was a big selling point for us. We arrived mid-afternoon for a late lunch. The main part of the restaurant was empty and we were seated in the porch area which was completely full. The interesting decor was overshadowed by how dirty the restaurant was. The floors (painted white) were covered in dirt and there were flies everywhere. When we opened the menu, I quickly realized that the "everything less than $10" claim was completely false with a good portion of the menu $10-$12+ I ordered the cherry pancakes which were meh - nothing special, but not horrible either. My wife ordered the cherry chicken salad sandwich which was tiny, dry, and certainly not worth the $10+ price tag. My little girls split the short stack of pancakes and had no complaints My son ordered the French toast from the adult menu and commented half-way through the meal that it tasted "weird". I took a look and the two remaining pieces were not cooked in the middle. Yes, raw egg and everything. I brought the uncooked French toast to our waiter's attention who promptly offered to take 10% off of the price of them. REALLY? 10%?? No offer to replace them or bring something else. When it came time to pay the bill I told the waiter that he should take the entire price of the raw French toast off which he agreed to do. I also mentioned how disgusting the flies in the restaurant were and he agreed. He said that it is a frequent complaint and they've had to close the porch area at times because of the number of flies.

Pleasantly surprised! Brought the family of 6 and was seated right away. Friendly albeit somewhat slow service. Good variety of standard brunch fare, but everything was satisfying and portions were good. Reasonable prices. All the dishes we tried were tasty, coffee was pretty mediocre though.

This place is wonderful! They have cute little antiques all around the restaurant that are available for purchase. The food is outstanding. They have a coffee cake of the day, a quiche of the day....our last visit I had the quiche of the day which was a Denver quiche. It came with fruit and a huge muffin! Service is always great. During the busy season, you may have to wait, but they get people in and out quickly. Its usually never longer than 15-20 minutes. It's well worth it!

Totally forgot about part of our order yesterday. A few reviewers have mentioned the cost--totally agree. Overpriced marginal food is what the Village Cafe has. We were disappointed.

If you are not into kitsch, wind-chimes and everything that your grandma or your 6 year old niece would label 'cute' you might not love this place. Because Village Cafe is as much a Hallmark store as it is a restaurant. But I don't complain. I dig it. Call me cheesy. I don't care. Cheese is gooooooooooood. Anyway Village Cafe offered me the best breakfast of my stay in Door County. Better than the acclaimed 'best breakfast' of the nearby Fish Creek (which was good but with such a title you have to be ***stellar*** at least. It wasn't). This place is quite unassuming but everything about it was just about perfect. Our waitress was a doll, the pumpkin pancakes were fluffy and oh so flavorful, my omelet perfectly cheesy and well cooked and the potatoes.....nom-nom-nom-yummy!! Prices are fair and coffee is plentiful. They are open for lunch and have dinner specials every day of the week. Give it a shot.

I like this place a lot. Very kitschy but cute. Great coffee, really good food, and excellent service. Also decent portions for the money.

This place was super cute inside and very friendly. It was very affordable and tasty. I had a turkey ruben and my boyfriend had the California club- he really liked it. After lunch we shared a slice of cherry pie. I'm not a fan of pie, but I thought it was pretty good and it was a large slice served with whipped cream. It kind of looks weird off the road, but it is worth a try!

Took the wife and kids here for lunch but had breakfast. Food was excellent. French toast was great. Appears all the ingredients are fresh. Very tasty food with friendly service. Would definitely come back.

for what it is worth...had breakfast twice here, both times had the quiche of the day & spicy potatoes plus coffee.normal do not do quiche but glad i did, good flaky crust & bacon in every bite! the fruit has good & the muffin was just awesome & the coffee was not that bad. The decor is door county kitsch, it everywhere you go

We stopped in the Village Cafe for Brunch and enjoyed ourselves quite a bit. The decor is absolutely ridiculous and quite heavy on roosters and chickens. The eggs benedict was great. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the hollandaise sauce was excellent. You can tell the orange juice is freshly squeezed, and not too expensive for a glass. Service was quick and friendly.

Bad choice for dinner. We saw the menu and thought 'yum chicken pot pie'. Instead it was a watery broth that wasn't very flavorful at all and it was quite pricey for the small bowl it came in. Hubby ordered a beef version of the pot pie and I think he had 2 or 3 teeny tiny pieces of beef. Plus service was ridiculously slow...refill on your drink...guess again. We will not be back.

This used to be my favorite breakfast spot in DC but now it seems just mediocre. I ordered the quiche and really believe it was day old and re-heated with a heavy layer of cheddar baked on top! Very odd. Others ordered the stuffed French toast and that was yummy. Prices have skyrocketed though. Check out the menu so you're not surprised by the prices. We paid less at The White Gull Inn.

We FINALLY stopped in for a brunch after years of driving past, often missing their operating hours. Enjoyed the food very much! We will be back to enjoy the patio. So much to look at inside this dining room/gift shop. Don't worry upon being seated. The kooky decor does not do the food justice. Sit back and enjoy!
