You know you've arrived in the world of slash-and-burn alcoholism when you find yourself sitting in the back booth of the Mecca drinking mimosas and eating hash browns at 9 o'clock on a Sunday morning without ever having quite made it home from the bars the night before. As someone who managed to pull off this feat a couple times back in the day: I both highly recommend the experience. And also recommend you avoid it at all costs. That said, as others have mentioned, this place is one of Seattle's few definitive greasy spoon diners. Sometimes the bar section gets obnoxiously packed, but even on the weekends you can usually saddle up the the bar of the diner side with a friend and throw back a few cheap beers.

Dark, divey, curt staff, and strong drinks. I liked it! So long as you know what to expect, you will probably enjoy it. This isn't your average bar.

  • Chris C.

Most overrated bar in Seattle. If you want a dirty, divey, authentic bar go to Capitol Hill, Ballard or Georgetown. These d-bag bartenders think they're so badass by ignoring you, but they're in Lower Queen Anne...yuppie central. The food on the restaurant side is decent hangover food, but going to the bar for a night out is an absolute joke.

When my friend Christine and I decided to drink while waiting for Buck in the record store, we asked a random guy on the street where a cool bar was. He said "walk down a block that way and go into the place that has a picture of the devil in front of it". Thanks random guy on the street, for guiding us to the best dive bar ever! When we walked in the bartender asked "what the fuck do you want" and I saw hearts in Christine's eyes, it was love! Drink prices were super duper low, and the drinks were strong! The bartender even bought us a round. We made some friends, and even sat next to the barfly who then got 86'd. Manny's (my new favorite beer) on tap, Slayer and Rev Horton Heat on the jukebox and my belly full of booze, aw Mecca I love you!

Would give 3 1/2 if they had it, it's a pretty good place. The diner food isn't mind blowing. But it's kind of exactly what you would expect, which can be great sometimes. Stopping in for a drink in the evening is even better.

A decent greasy spoon diner. It was hard to fit four people in a booth for lunch on a cold, snowy Seattle day. They have no heat in the place and were using little space heaters instead. I guess I just don't like this type of food because I usually stick with the healthy salad types. But instead I went far out and ordered a Philly Cheese steak. It was disgusting, but then again, I don't like that type of food. But they did have the best biscuits and gravy I have ever had, and usually I hate that entree. The portions were huge! The staff was friendly and I like the super old cash register!

What a fun place...inspired by the folks that have the 5 Point Cafe not too far away....or perhaps The Mecca inspired The 5 Point. Whatever, they are both awesome. We had appetizers before a show at The Intiman...Crime and Punishment, which was unfortunately more Punishment than Crime...but the food here before was GREAT!! The Onion Rings are to die for, and the salads are fresh and wonderful. The service is top rate; FAST AND Very knowledgeable. The martini was also quite delish!

Most places deserve two stars just for being open. However, I question anyones tastes when they give this place ANYTHING above a two. The Mecca, which main claim to fame is the fact it lost so much business when the smoking law came into effect, is one more rat turd away from getting its doors shut down by the health department. If anyone wants to do a health ordinance lookup on this place they will see I am not kidding. Nasty. How can someone say the food was okay and the service sucked and give it four stars? This place is a dirty hole. Why even bother with star ratings that dont make any sense.

I love the mecca, the drinks are super strong all the time, and the doubles for a single happy hours is rediculously fun. They make the best Philly cheesesteak I've ever had in any state, the meatloaf and the open faced turkey sandwiches are to die for. the clientele is very amusing and its always quite fun in there, I really like that crazy guy with the leopard hair, he is super hot and cracks me up so bad, omg. In short you really cant go wrong with anything on the menu and the drinks are the best in WA, hands down, better than the five point even. its sort of dive bar looking on the inside but I like that, no pretentious kooks there ever, for that go across the street to that horrible over priced place with weak everything (except the servers are hot) called Pesos (eww).

I have had nothing but blazing good times in this place. Admittedly, I was bombed every time I have been there, but that should not water down this review. One of my favorite Seattle experiences had to have been the time I was celebrating a friend's upcoming fatherhood... We stood atop chairs in the middle of the room, drinking Jack Daniels from tiny airplane bottles, chanting ALL the words of Bon Jovi's Wanted Dead or Alive in unison with the rest of the bar. That was maybe the singlemost time I've felt at one with Seattle...

I have been to this place twice over the past three years. Not good. The service is slow and unfriendly. This place is dirty and unkept with little to desire. As far as the food, well to start both times I visited there were a ton of flies buzzing around my head as I tried to eat..no joke. And the quality of the food is of a Perkins, Denny's, or Village Inn. I will never go back again and if you do happen to visit bring a barf bag and a fly swatter.

I thought this was a 24 hour place but was wrong. It's 24 hours on Friday and Saturday but only till 1am on other nights. Very much a drunken scene but far from frat boys and hipsters. Just a good mix of all sort of Queen Anne characters having a good time. And definitely not a scary experience. We came here for food after a late night hockey game and we were not disappointed. The waitress was sweet enough to let us order as we just made it in time and probably from the fact that we were not drunk, just hungry. Love the pitchers of ice tea and soda they bring you. Very smart. And the open face sandwiches are incredible. The turkey is actually carved from turkeys they buy and cook. And real mashed potatoes. Just needed salt and pepper and it was a perfect comfort meal. Wouldn't mind coming here for a drunken fun night either. Good music and a nice crowd. Seems a tad roomier than similar places too. Update: Yeah I spend way too much time here. The staff here just rocks. Every time I come here they super nice and always quick about getting you a drink. I love coming here when the world sucks.

I have to go back to this place!! All I did was drink there. My friend hadsome chili and he's a bit of a chili snob and at first he thought it looked like Hormel but he ended up loving it. The waitress was really nice and attentive. We asked for some shots the bartender didn't know how to make so she looked it up for us. Pretty cheap drink and food wise. I can't wait to go back.

  • Heather F.

I like the Mecca because as soon as you walk in, what you see is what you get, and sometimes that's exactly what I want. It certainly is rough around the edges and for as many drunken patrons that I have encountered here, I have never had a bad time. If you are a person with delicate sensibilities, this place is not for you.

  • John H.

This place is cool - kind of a small diner situated smack in the middle of Queen Anne, across from Mirabeau room. I went for the roast beef sandwhich, which was on white bread, had gravy, and was served with a heaping mound of mashed potatoes. While I'm not a huge fan of any of these things, I can still vividly remember how good it tasted. Of course, go at night and there's always sketchy characters, which makes it either entertaining or a little scary. In 25 minutes there, we saw two separate patrons skip out on the bill.

    (5)
  • Jon S.

OK, so the only thing I've had to drink here so far is coffee, but Mecca looks like a great place to get drunk. I come for the food. The greasy, greasy food. The kind of food that, ahem, lubricates your insides a bit. But I digress. Mecca has food fit for every occasion, from a hangover to breakfast for dinner (my favorite occasion!). I recommend the corned beef hash breakfast plate...mmmmm. While it can be kind of rough-and-tumble sometimes, the food always hits the spot and everyone who works there always has a smile and a wink.

Reading all these reviews I realized that I have never eaten here. I have never even considered eating here. Thinking about it, I guess I've seen people eating here. That's what those booths are for when you come in the door. That makes a lot of sense. You see, whenever I come here, I always take a quick left and go to the bar side (like at the 5 Point) and then things get a little fuzzy (like at the 5 Point). This is just such a bar, I had never thought the food would be palatable. As far as the bar side goes, it's always a blast. The bartenders (including that one really big scary looking guy) are always friendly and quick despite all the drunks. And all the drunks are pretty friendly, too. And they seem friendly (as opposed to the 5 Point where they really are friendly - they just don't seem that way at first - kind of like New Yorkers).

    (4)
  • Ezra N.

Great drinks, great food, great atmosphere and great service. Mecca is also home to the best jukebox in Seattle. Similar to 5 Point, but much friendlier and much better service. They don't have the Space Needle view from the men's room though. Come here for the hot turkey sandwich or oatmeal and a whiskey, you can't go wrong.

Pay Attention. Don't fuck around. Order the hash and a bloody mary.

Heavy pours and good food. This is hands down the best dive bar in town. Excellent breakfast foods and the best Philly in town. This place blows Tat's out of the water with the Philly they make. It's truly a challenge to go to the Mecca and order something else although I will breakdown and get a tuna melt once in a while.

My favorite place in Queen Anne. Period. Good beer. Awesome waitstaff. And not awesome in a "hover-over-you-while-you-eat-sickly-nice" way, awesome in a "gruff-and-mean-but-will-still-give-you-a-free-drink-once-in-awhile" way. And three words Hot Turkey Sandwich. I crave the sliced turkey with thick slices of white bread with gravy and mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. Mmmm! They also have fantastic pancakes and bacon. Good burgers. Huge delicious Philly Cheesesteaks. And, when they have ice cream in stock, great shakes. I love Mecca. Its a greasy hole-in-the-wall, not doubt about it, but man do I love it. And it's 24 hours!

    (5)
  • Lisa F.

A place for drunks to meet other drunks. They also make a mean vegi-burger here. I've heard that this is a good place to get some breakfast. Tip the cook well, he works hard back there! This is also a good place to read on the weekend while eating a big meal and drinking a beer!

  • Adam B.

This is definitely a dive of a restaurant/bar that it seems has been around Queen Anne forever. Going in the place looks like it's nighttime even in daylight. Black and White everywhere. Leather on the booths and stools all torn up with no plans to re-upholster them any time soon. Then again, it all lends to this place's character. I can imagine half the people going here being disgusted by it and the other half loving it to death. I'm somewhere in between. So call me Switzerland in Seattle. Breakfast was decent. Hash Browns really good and crispy and omelette was decent but I didn't like the fact the fillings were all stuffed onto the pancake omellete instead of being folded into the eggs which is the way I like it. Still, a decent place in QA for eggs and then go for a latte across the street at Uptown.

I once heard a rumor that this guy I know knew someone that got sick off the chicken strips... but then again if that weren't true then it wouldn't classify as a beautiful grease pit/dive bar and wonderful piece of Americana. I've personally tested the Chicken Fried Steak and found it to be excellent. Good eats, friendly service and if you go with my friend Travis the burly looking bartender turns into a teddy bear who pours 11oz of Jack and throws in the splash of Coke if you really need it. Even if you don't know my friend Travis then it's a damn fine little spot. Quite small and intimate but a welcome relaxing friendly spot with wild conversation. They did quit the 24 hour thing for a bit last year but I believe they are back again as a 24 hour joint. Sorry no booze 2-6am Again.. I don't smoke but when the government takes away your ashtray's and tells you not to do the very thing they hooked you on in the first place then any place that's got the balls to hand you a dirty glass and tell you "smoke 'em if you got 'em" rule is gonna get a 5th star just for that. Why not sit down and have a drink at a place that will stand up for you?

I've only eaten here during the day, but I imagine this would be a fine place to get some good food while inebriated. Being close to work, it was a natural choice for lunch yesterday. The cold weather has had me craving comfort food as of late, so I ordered up a waffle with some bacon and eggs. Fuck yeah! That stuff was good! We both ordered Coke - the waitress brought our drinks and a mini pitcher of Coke so we needn't harass her for refills. Nice! Since it was lunch time, the jukebox wasn't on constantly, but when it was, I got to hear some AIC and AC/DC. Few things make me happier than stuffing my face with good food and listening to good music and this is the wrong website to point out what those other things be. Our bill was less than $20, the service was fine and the food was good. If you're in the neighborhood, stop by the Mecca for some good, reasonably priced eats.

Went on Friday pre-movie at the cinema across the street, only sat in the diner portion, not the bar. Was a little odd, i literally saw the waitress 3 times; once for drink order, once for drink delivery/food order and once for food pickup/tab delivery. She wasn't around much otherwise. Bit of a dive, but the food was pretty good for a greasy-spoon type of place. Only annoyance - I think everyone else in the place smoked and they kept going in and out, in-and-out. It was about 35 degrees outside and made the place pretty cold.

This is my go-to place for everything. It's a three minute walk from my house and I somehow end up here what seems like every other week. The food is cheap and insanely delicious, the waitresses are no-b.s. and leave you alone, the music is always awesome ( I love it when I'm about to bust into an omelette and Pantera starts blaring from the speakers :) , it's open 24 hrs. I have had some wonderful 4 a.m. feasts here. I love Mecca.

  • Emily G.

The Mecca is great for a greasy breakfast or lunch. They serve Cafe Vita coffee which is super good. There is nothing super fabulous about this place besides that they are consistant in serving a standard breakfast. Don't go expecting to pop in and pop out, it is usually slow moving as they only have a couple waitress on stafff and a very small kitchen.

    (3)
  • Liz A.

    Best greasy spoon in town.

    (4)
  • Rick V.

I used to live nearby in Queen Anne and this was the only decent bar in the area. I loved their setup - I'd meet with friends here, we'd grab a booth, order food from the waitress then get our drinks from the adjoining bar. The hot open-faced meatloaf sandwich was good, definite comfort food. The bar has a number of beer coasters tacked to the wall signed by various celebrities who happened to drop in - see if you can spot the one that says "Johnny Rotten was sick at the Mecca"!

With a motto, "alcoholics serving alcoholics since 1989 (or whatever year)" I had to check this place out. The bellhop at the Marqueen Hotel where I was staying pointed me towards this place for breakfast since I will avoid Starbucks at all cost (Dunkin' 4 Life baby!). I walked into this place expecting a hole in the wall, kind of dive bar, but instead I was greeted with kind of a retro style diner. The place is small, which I think adds to the styling with booths on the left and a long counter on the right. I was quickly greeted and placed my breakfast order for something called the Hangover special, so I think. It kind of reminded me of truck stop food, which you have to understand is a good thing in my book because that is a staple of my Maine upbringing. The portions were huge, plenty for me to munch on as I read the paper and enjoyed a cup of coffee. It's a no frills place with good people, good food, and a chill atmosphere. I will likely be back for breakfast if I am in Queen Anne again!

  • Mary Moon H.

Ok, there needs to be two listing for this place becuase there are two TOTALLY DIFFERENT things happening here! 1st Mecca is a bar that makes decent cheap drinks with just the kind of hole in the wall bar feel you can kick back and enjoy on a lazy day off which I'd give 3-4 stars. 2nd there's a GAWD AWFUL cafe that has horrible service and even worse food. Now this is going to sound bad since our waitress was pregnant BUT even if I were to over look the fact that it took me and my boyfriend 35 minutes to get our order when we were only 1 of 2 tables of 2 in this place, I can not over look the fact that my eggs Benedict had rotten tomatoes and the yoke was cooked till it was hard ball of chalk! And upon letting our waitress know the tomatoes were rotten I was told "no they're not! I just had some in a salad", well my dear either you have no taste buds, or pregnancy makes you crave moldy food! Either way they were rotten!

  • Beth F.

Every time I've been in this place it's been a strange and exotic experience. The patrons have a lot of character, like they're playing roles in some movie where a whole lot of nothing takes place in a dimly-lit diner. It's across the street from our favorite movie theater so we like to grab a beer and an omelet before watching an indie flick and it's never let us down.

Are you hung over? Then go to Mecca right now and eat a burger, perferably veggie, and fries. You will feel about a million times better. I love Mecca. . .perfect greasy spoon. And if you order pop, it comes in a mini-pitcher! There is nothing cooler than that.

    (5)
  • Lawrence W.

Is it a greasy spoon or a bar? A haven for alcoholics, or a charming family diner? I don't actually care, since The Mecca has the best club sandwich in town, and truly excellent fries. Now that the place is smoke-free, it's an even better place to run to to grab a decent meal at any time of day or night. The music on the jukebox is eclectic and weird, but hey, so are most of the patrons and staff. It's not just good food - it's great people watching.

  • Sonia P.

Can't believe that I have lived in Seattle all my life and just ate here for the first time ever! The 5 stars do not indicate a Four Seasons type of dining experience, it just indicates that this is about the best diner food I've ever had. All the favorites are there and breakfast is anytime. I had a bowl of homemade black bean soup that was excellent. My BF had the open-face turkey sandwich, which was perfect. Anywhere that serves REAL turkey gets an A+ in my book. But pair that with real gravy and real mashed potatoes = comfort food heavan. Pair that up with reasonable prices and a very cool black, white, and red decor and you can see why this place has endured for the last 70 years!

    (5)
  • Skip B.

Seriously, this is a place that you can not handle whilie sober. You definitely won't leave sober, either. It's a total mix of everybodies. Kinda trashy, kinda dirty, kinda fun, but the Mecca is in no-way "classy".

    (3)
  • Ross B.

Great place, food and drinks with attitude. Any place that states "Alcoholics serving Alcoholics since 1929" has to be one of the best dive bar's, if not best dive bar around. The menu on the cafe side is respectable, only the hash browns suck. But the Meat Loaf is great, real mashed potato's and the other menu items are great. The bar side has decent drinks for a fair price plus the place has a lot of history.

This and the 5 Point...the only real diners in Seattle!

    (5)
  • Joolie T.

their menu is very much like 5 point.. (well, they had the same owners once upon a time). yelp.com/biz/uss4btLte2_… it's basically the same except Mecca's a little more brighter, lively, busy, loud w/ customers, and less drama and entertainment. the people aren't as drunk/hung-over, the service is still good if you're good to them, the food is similar, but not as yummy. the Chili is a must-eat, though. eat it w/ extra cheese!!! yum!

um, $3.50 mimosa in a pint glass?! your my new bff. and the blueberry pancakes hit the spot. enough food for 4. absolutely nothing fancy no frills. that's why i go. same w/ the 5 point.

Its my second time here. Not bad. cheap good fast breakfast. Great bacon !! Big waffle. We stayed at the Mediterrean Inn which is less than a block away. Had breakfast, went to Safeway, then went to the Zoo. I would go back.

  • Gautham H.

I went here twice in one week while I was visiting Seattle. Once because I was so drunk, I didnt know any better, and the second time I was so sober that I didnt remember I had been here when I was drunk. Bottom line - If youre looking for a greasy diner, this is the place to go.

This is the best dive diner in queen anne. The food is great in comparison to price. The service was good, edgy but attentive.... exactly how it should be. I recommend the meat loaf or the patty melt..

I had been wondering the streets of Seattle one day and I happened on the Mecca. It was like a god send! I got eat a bomb meatloaf plate. Who's doesn't love a good meatloaf plate once in a while? Lame people thats who. Plus dollar beers for Happy Hour! Service was great

Like Beth's, with a cheerier staff and a more convenient location. Oh yeah, and an adjacent cocktail lounge. Decor is over-the-top retro kitchy, but it works. Plus, they serve the best hashbrowns I have ever had in my life. No lie.

first of all Jonathan B is fos. Decent breakfast (certainly plenty of food), all seemed fine to me w/o looking up any heatlh dept ratings. Waitstaff very very attentive, solid breakfast for low cost. A decent little diner no matter how you slice it or dice it. The history of the joint that is on the back of the menu is pretty fascinating. As a bar at night I truly enjoyed it. I came in two diff nights while up for the Bumbershoot (fantastic!) festie. I was hammered one evening and lost a bank card here and came back the next night and the very nice regular Sherman had found it and given it to the bartender, so that was fantastic. The art on the back of cardboard beer coasters on the wall in the lounge section is excellent. (favorite: Citizens for a Work Free Drug Place) They have decent beer selection such as Hale's Cream Ale. Come in for a breakfast lunch or dinner or some cocktails shots wine or beer and I'm sure you will do just fine. Close to Seattle Center and just an overall chill vibe.

ahh. the mecca. once owned by the same people as the five-point, you get the same greasy spopon food, but with less smoke and less violent customers. of course, you don't get the view of the space needle from the urinal either

freaking YUM! i've only been once but i had the fish and chips - which are made with salmon - and it was divine! oh, and my diet coke came in a PITCHER! with a straw in it! yep, i could eat here all day everyday.

always walked by but never stopped in till late last night. the deck hand breakfast is more drunk breakfast food than you can eat, and though the bacon sucked, i left satisfied overall. service sucks, so be prepared.

if you like the 5 POINT then come here. its pretty much the same darn thing. they only time they don;t serve booze here is between the hours of 2 - 6 am. not bad for a greasy spoon / 24 hour dinner.

  • Nicole E.

Mecca is what it is - a true dive bar. It's really great at being a dive bar. Drinks are strong, beer is cheap, bartenders are a little grumbly, and the lighting is low and kind of red. The bar is on the left side and a diner is on the right (I have never eaten at Mecca or sat on the right/diner side). The bar is long and narrow with a couple tables in the back, which is better if you have more than 2 people in your group. Every time I've gone to Mecca, it's been with different people. And every time, someone says, "I really like this place, I'm glad we came here." Serious.

"If you don't love mecca, you don't love Seattle" -Author Unknown, Men's Room Wall, Above urinal, Mecca Seattle. If you are craving a dive bar, or are showing people around who are not from seattle and you want the quint-essential dive bar experience come here. The bar is long and narrow, and has a dark vibe mixed with hipness, creepiness, and smelliness. I've never had food there so I can't comment on that. The bartenders range from semi-cordial to semi-rude. On one visit, one person in our party ordered a slightly dirty martini and what they received tasted like olive juice with a splash of vodka. When the bartender came back to check on us she mentioned it was a bit salty and instead of happily making a new one and apologizing he shot a dirty look, scoffed and gave her a beer instead (which she asked for after tasting that abomination). Surprisingly, that experience didn't really bother me much though, it kinda goes with the vibe of the joint. If that were to happen at a nice place it would have brought their rating down to a single star. (TLDR paragraph: just stick to beer at this place)

Service is ok, employees seem a little grumpy when it gets later but i guess that's understandable. They have a great cheese steak. I will be going back next time I'm in that part of town!

I have gone to Mecca for the last four years without any major issues...yes, it is a dive: it smells weird, the service sucks and the food is ok, but not spectacular. Drinks are always cheap. I have noticed over the last few months that the food has been in even more decline and service has gotten worse. I was in there today and not only was my food cold, but it had a hair in it. Service was incredibly slow, we were waiting for well over 30 minutes only to receive food that was not safe to eat. I won't be going back to this place and nor should you!

Host/ess: n/a Wait person: 4.0 Food: Taste, Presentation: 4.0 Property: Ambiance, Style, Decor: 4.0 I have been enjoying this cafe/tavern/bar for a couple of years. They are so consistent with everything that you would think everything is automated. If you enjoy bacon, this is your bacon Mecca!

    (4)
  • Chira V.

Great bacon. What more do you need? its a 24 hour diner and they have a t-shirt that proclaims alcoholics serving alcoholics since 18something.... so you know, don't expect 5 star service here, its just not that kind of a joint. after a rough night, or a need for some standard breakfast, or a cheap drink this does the job.

The worst service ever coupled with the worst food ever! Pancakes looked and tasted like drywall, hashed browns were black and burnt to a crisp! The waitress was rude not only to us but to other customers she was serving. No tip for you! This place is a joke. You deserve better. Eat somewhere else! I'm serious! What's that? You don't know where else to go? Have no fear, a short drive over to Beth's diner will have you singing the praises of Yelp.com . HUGE portions, great service and a happy belly. 7311 Aurora Avenue North Seattle, WA 98103 (206) 782-5588 bethscafe.com Or you can try to find a Patty's Eggnest, which is my all-time favorite breakfast restaurant. This is a great place to take those friends of yours who always conveniently forget to add tax into their total. Mecca is on to that racket and works the tax into the food prices so you only have to pry the extra few bucks of tip money out of their cheap hands.** Beyond that this place will fill the need if you are drunk and is sufficiently greasy if you are hungover, and is also there for you if you are merely working on one or the other, providing a full bar on the left hand side of the establishment. Be prepared for what can best be described as formula bad attitude service... the type of payback that is supposed to endear you when you are buzzed and being a right pain in the ass yourself. If you are not being a pain in the ass you will still get this same level of unenthusiastic customer service, but, hey, you will still get served and that is all that matters sometimes, right? ** I am in no way implying that any of the people I have dined here with are cheap bastards, only being helpful since we all know one or two people who are.

"Alcoholics Serving Alcoholics since 1929", the T-shirts proudly proclaim. Well, I'm no alcoholic (not one that you'd know about, anyway!) but the nice folk at Mecca serve me all the same. Very nicely too. The service is always prompt and friendly, from the moment you enter to the point where you leave. When I first went there, I thought that the jug of pop which accompanied my drink was because I was special. Not so, as it turns out. Okay, so you'd think that a place with this kind of rep must surely be a scary, greasy, smokey dive. It is not. The interior is actually quite nice. Clean, reasonably bright, and comfortable. Everything is laid out diner style on one side, and booze-bar style in the other. Similarly, you'd think that the food at such a place would be mere sustenance, given that alcohol is the big draw. Again, not true. Many things on the menu are actually quite good. Fresh and freshly-prepared. Tasty. Portion sizes are adequate to Hefty, depending on the dish. My favorites are the Chicken-Fried Steak (served with a volcano of mashed potatoes with gravy in the crater) and Corned Beef Hash (everything is cooked together - no sissy token hash browns on the side in this joint!). 4 Stars - Friends report that the alcohol is more than adequate also.

Friendly. Cozy. Good music. Comfort food menu. Safe feeling. Relaxed, like home should be without people nagging you. All was clean and fresh on the restaurant side. I avoided the bar side of the house because the annoying sound of electronic pinball was pervasive. Specifics: asked waitress frankly what was good, and got a frank download from both her and a cook passing by on what was good and what was not as good. Took their advice, and had a great time at the counter eating and sharing opinions on the interesting soundtrack. For salad people like myself: the scoop is: avoid the Caesar, which is canned, but the blue cheese and other dressings are home-made and good. The salads are BIG (even the house salad), and they are served with giant portions of garlic bread. Lettuce is freshly sliced (not out of a bag) and tossed like someone cares. Salads are also priced at somewhat reasonable levels under $10, as opposed to the alarming $15-for-some-lettuce benchmark that is overtaking menus.

Waitress was totally preoccupied with flirting with some guy. Chicken fried steak was dry, the mashed potatoes had to be from a box, the gravy was salty and brown. I don't understand the appeal, must be a cult following or novelty type thing. From what I understand there is some punk, hipster, greaser theme going on here, so maybe that is what draws people in...can't be the quality of the food...but probably good greasy food on a drunk tummy. I went once, haven't been back. I would say it was Denny's quality with edgy waitstaff.

I have figured out what makes the bar so special. Jonesy. It's like a big party that Jonesy is hosting. Everyone's welcome.

Finally - I made it in the Mecca! I'd had the bacon before, but it was take-out. I know... don't ask. This place is famous - and for good reason. Ask them to tell you the history of the joint and you'll get it. Loved the G&Ts, greasy yummy sandwich and damn good fresh cut fries. Indulgent and sinful, but worth it. Good place to unwind with some moxie. Someone got beat up in the lot next door while we were there. Adventure with your drinks and food is always welcome!

Oh Mecca, I am drawn to you but also repelled by you. I live close and come here more often than I should, but sometimes this dive bar goes beyond divey. Such as New Years Eve when our waitress, presumably on heroin, could not understand that we were trying to order and subsequently fell to her knees trying to deliver an order. I have seen her before with her head on the bar, clearly f-d up while working, but this took the cake! What can I really say, their motto is "alcoholics serving alcoholics". The food is what it is, and the drinks are strong.

Go here to be served bad food (and alcoholic beverages) by surly wait staff next to people requiring validation more than nourishment. Two stars for alcohol.

I am chiming in. Some coworkers went here from time to time when I worked on lower QA. I could never get past the front door. It was dark and creepy smelly. I recently walked by again - same creepy feeling. I had the experience of meeting a very rude man selling beer at a concessions event - he said he worked there. i can't go in.

I thought I had a pic posted, sorry-- but seriously-- if you can get a seat and get a chance to order a reuben- oh gosh- you have to do it. I love this place and always plan my trips to Seattle so my hotel is close.

Love love love this place. I often forget it exists, but remembered this morning how damn good their chicken fried steak and eggs are and dropped everything to eat there. Occasional bad service wont even keep me from it, this place has got character.

There's just something about watching a drunk man get forcibly pulled past your table and thrown into the street that makes you feel cosy. Granted, that's not the atmosphere I always gravitate towards, but sometimes, that's just what you need. The drinks are strong. The coffee is bad. The service can be great or just so-so, but it is perfect for a hangover breakfast or a late-night reuben. Plus, it had ambiance, and salty drunks.

Smells like vomit. What else do you expect in a dive bar? Pristine bathrooms? Yeah, strangely enough they have it here. Drinks weren't as stiff as I expected them to be, but that's ok since I still had to drive home at some point. Three gin and tonics were enough to put a little pink in my cheeks but not enough to set my head to buzzin'. Will have to go for that fourth next time.

After a miserable late night dinner fail at Sport Restaurant and Bar we decided to head over to Queen Anne so that we could meet up with one of our friends at Peso's. I was absolutely starving and first we tried to go Pagliacci because two slices of pizza and a beer sounded like a great idea. 12:09AM. Shit. "How about Mecca Cafe?" "Do they have food?" "Yes" "Do they have beer?" "Done." This place is very dimly lit which in some cases (depending on how dimly lit) can be problematic since I consider myself night blind. It really is a condition and not a "tactic to try and make girls hold my hand when walking at night" as some might think. We sit at the bar (the one in the front when you first walk in) and are there for no less than 5 minutes and DO NOT SEE ANY SIGN OF LIFE. I can hear Rage Against the Machine blasting loudly throughout the establishment. "Let's try the back bar." Head to the back bar and get two pints of whatever we got and tried to order food. "Need to order in the front.". That was easier said than done. Head back to the front after closing out our two beer tab and go back to sit at the OTHER bar. We finally see someone. "Do you need menus?" "We looked at them earlier when we were sitt...." "Did she just fucking walk away?" Ordered a turkey sandwich with bacon and a side of fries or something similar. Made the mistake of asking for a side of ranch because it took what seemed like an eternity to produce. "How long does it take to put ranch in a bowl?" "Is she high?" Pay for our food and beer and we are gone. Keep in mind that I usually don't have a problem waiting for food / drinks when it is busy. There was one other party (of two) in there eating and they were leaving before we even ordered. We were also being as nice as possible. If I was a heroin addict and needed a place to nod out and not be bothered this would be my spot. Sorry Mecca Cafe. Two stars for being open + I was really hungry

Disclaimer: this review has been impaired by alcohol, because both times I have been to Mecca, I have been drunk. In fact, the last time I was here was after a beer fest, so I simply needed a pile of grease, potatoes, ketchup to supplement the 40oz of tripels I had just poured into my body. Draw your own conclusions.

Sunday brunch for the low-brow set doesn't get any better than Mecca. $3.50 pint-sized mimosas, pancakes so big they darn near hang over the edges of the plate, and thick, crispy, bacon. A staff who doesn't take any crap, but is still super friendly and knows how to take care of business when it's swamped. One note: the OJ they use for mimosas on the diner side is better than the bar OJ. At some point during the day they switch from making the mimosas with the good stuff to having the bar make them. You can tell a big difference if you start with the tasty, pulpy diner side OJ and they switch you over.

Pretty decent diner! I haven't been to the bar part (yet). We took one of our friends from Portland to the Mecca Cafe last weekend for breakfast. Mine was cooked perfectly. Over medium eggs, toast, and yummy crisp bacon. My friend got their salmon eggs benedict. Her eggs were a little overdone, but the salmon was tasty. It has a great old diner feel because it's been one for years! I can't believe I hadn't been to Mecca Cafe before and I look forward to trying this place again and again!

  • Ben R.

I don't get it. Maybe this place is supposed to be so divey that it becomes charming, but Mecca has finally convinced me that I just don't like greasy-spoon diners. Maybe truck-stop chic is going to be the next big thing, but it's hard to imagine coming here for food with any regularity. The dining area was full of flies (I'd hate to see the kitchen...), the tables weren't bussed with any regularity, and the service was alarmingly slow. The food was forgettable, and the menu extremely unimaginative. Eating here I got my first experience of being so nonplussed at the selection that I literally couldn't decide on anything for ten minutes. It's ok though, since the waitress gave me an extra ten on top of that to take my order. Then when it was delivered, it was the wrong plate. She was friendly enough, but slooooooow. I can't speak to the quality of Mecca as a bar, but as a restaurant I have to put the fatwa on it, Salman Rushdie-style.

I'm always on the search for greasy spoon diners. I'll stop on road trips at a promising rest stop for such glorious food. Today I decided to check out Mecca because a friend mentioned to me that it was decent food and totally my style. Came in, 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, a couple of tables had customers in it and I sat myself down. I checked out the menu, classic diner breakfast food, perfect. I ordered a coffee (cafe vita, always a good choice) and chicken fried steak and eggs. It was at my table within 3 minutes. Eggs were cooked well, chicken fried steak was what was to be expected (good, but not spectacular, still looking for that one in Seattle) and some really great hash browns. I don't know what the bar's like but I bet it's similar in the no-nonsense attitude. If you're looking for a nice place to have a meal in an upscale atmosphere, don't come here. This is good traditional working class fare.

It's a bar. They serve breakfast. It's a bar. And they serve breakfast. The only other thing I have to say is they have a pretty damn good bloody mary and I do enjoy their corned beef hash.

  • Wendy S.

Came for the food, stuck around for the mid-day juke box action. This breakfast and lunch cafe slash headbanger bar attracts an eclectic crowd of locals and misfits interested in a tasty meal and easy chit chat with like-minded individualists. Solid place for breakfast or lunch, and I suspect dinner. Great place to hang out when you are hungry or when you are just hankering for a shot of whiskey and a beer.

    (5)
  • Cecilli S.

Are you freaking kidding me?!!! I almost gave the cook my number those hash browns were so perfect!! Just imagine a gorgeously fried puddle of REAL potatoes. It only goes up from there. Also. Remember: seat yourself and $3.50 mimosas in pint glasses. What was that St. Peter? Better than the crap they serve in Heaven? I couldn't agree more!!

    (5)
  • Pascale C.

Hang Over Cure Heaven. That's what it should be called. You get quite a bit of food for a low price. I got the basic breakfast of eggs, toast and the almighty brick-o'-hashbrowns. They grey color turned me off at first but the more I ate the more I enjoyed. The eggs were really good and the toast... well, it was just toast but still good. I ordered a bloody mary, naturally, and it was pretty damn good. Nothing spectacular but still good. They garnished it with green olives, lemon and lime. The atmosphere and decor are probably the coolest part about this place. Its definitely a retro diner. Black and white tile floors, red seats and bar stools. Very small and cozy. The newspaper articles/comics on the walls are extremely old and really fun to look at and see how much life has changed. If you had a rough night and you're hurting the next morning, craving sustenance, go to The Mecca. The grub will ease your hangover and recharge you for the day.

Breakfast was pretty good, but the server was rude. We watched her help other tables while we stood and stood at the register. We never saw her long enough to offend her. We might go back, but we will ask not to be in her section.

Almost a year after my original review, I found myself at Mecca in the bar on a Saturday night and back for breakfast Sunday morning. On Saturday night, our server seemed a bit surly towards our large group of Yelpers, but sweet when Cec and I went up to the bar for our drinks, which were nice and strong. It led a number of us to question why on earth a server would be unfriendly to a large group of people when they could be a great source of tips..... Sunday morning (Noonish), there was no wait for a table, our server was friendly and fast and the food was far from mediocre - it was damn fine (kind of like one of the cooks). My only complaint was that they don't seem to want to give you any butter on your toast, and dry toast is practically impossible to eat. But, you sure can try when you're washing it down with a pint glass full of mimosa for $3.50. Yesh.

We hit up the Mecca cafe for some food after another loss by the thunderbirds. It is very dark in the cafe, so if you like well lit places, this place is not for you. Everything on the menu apparently is made fresh, my fiance said the potato salad was really good, I did not have a taste so I can't verify. I had the philly cheese steak sandwich and it was pretty good, It was not overpowered by any one single item, so the whole mishmash worked very well. I digged the decor of the place, and although its fairly small, there was no wait for us (It was sunday night at 7pm)

I haven't been there in a while, but back when Element was open, this was our go-to munchie spot after a long night of dancing and boozing if Dick's was closed, which it usually was. :( The goods: greasy food and big portions! Nachos to share, the mountain of fries...it's a miracle our arteries didn't instantly clog up at the table. (I would've been okay if they had -- if I had to pick a way to croak, it'd definitely be after eating my heart out. Literally.) The averages: service at odd hours is hit or miss. We'd usually go in around 3 or 4 and the wait for food was a bit long...nothing we couldn't forget about with conversation, but hungry drunk idiots need their grease! If I lived on LQA, I'd probably find more excuses to hit the Mecca in the middle of the night. :) Will be back if the occasion requires a post-funk of fried food.

    1. Strong Drinks 2. Perfect Hangover breakfasts with strong coffee 3. One of the last holdouts on the smoking in bars issue, that a business should be able to do what they want. if it's legal. I think they smoked in the bar for a year after the ban. And good for them. I don't like it when my freedoms are taken away by the "moral majority" bullshit, either. 4. Indifferent service This is all you would expect from a dive bar, in the heart of yuppieville Queen Anne. Awesome.

For a small cafe they offer excellent service. The waitresses are quick, attentive, and knowledgeable while the little restaurant is busy. 3 stars? Well the food is just OK. The open face turkey sandwich has great gravy, but the turkey is bland without it and the break is low quality. The country fried steak was decent but i did not enjoy the gravy or mashed potatoes, even though the potatoes were plentiful. For breakfast i had the 1 egg, 2 sausage, 2 pancake combo for $7.29. The pancakes were fluffy and eggs were good quality, but i was not liking the syrup. It was a little pricey as well for breakfast as i left still hungry. If they added maybe some hash browns as well the breakfast would have rocked. I may eat here again....

  • Sarah S.

Rude! Rude! Rude! After yelling at me to put my camera away, our server apparently went and complained to her friends about us- prompting one of them to walk up to our table and say, "Um, so I'm REALLY good friends with your server and she said you guys looked like the type of people who don't tip, and that really sucks. So don't stiff her, ok? Do me a favor and make sure you tip her really well. After all, it's my birthday. Tip your server." Um, excuse me? That's one hell of a way to ensure you're NOT getting tipped. Backstory: my friends and I popped into the Mecca after spending hundreds of dollars at a fundraiser, and we were all dressed to the nines... so it's not like we actually looked like the type of people who are bad tippers. I am, however, awarding the Mecca two stars because their drinks must be strong since I don't actually remember any of this happening- my friends had to recreate the evening for me because I'm the only one with the power to Yelp about it.

Good stuff. One side is a bar and the other side is a greasy spoon that's open late night for food. Sometimes they get some "interesting" clientele.

    (4)
  • Liz H.

I have spent more Saturday mornings/afternoons/evenings on the bar side of the Mecca than I care to count. There is no pretense at this place. The bacon is delicious. And the rest of the food is decent diner fare that is cheap and not trying to be anything other than what is (kind of like the Mecca itself). The juke box has a quality selection. The clientele is eclectic. Spend a morning at the Mecca and you will find yourself surrounded by all sorts of characters - some unsavory, some not, and many very entertaining (from afar). This is a good place to saddle up the bar and keep to yourself. If you are into that kind of thing.

Eh. We went here for a scoutmob coupon that we had. I wasn't overly impressed... portions were generous, service was so-so, and food was fine. Not a ton of flavor, but you get a lot of food. Bloody mary was pretty good, though.

The Corned Beef Hash is 5 star, all the way. The place is a 3 star, decent reataurant. The hash brings my rating to 4 stars. Best and most generous serving of CBH in town....period!

Dined here this morning for the first time. Best chicken fried steak I have ever had. The waitress was friendly and joking with our four year old. I wonder if a midwestner runs the place. It's a greasy spoon and they do a fine job with it!

This place is great for the following reasons: 1. Delicious omelets to soak up all the alcohol in my tummy from the night before. 2. Good, fried drunk food and sandwiches for when I'm actually drunk. 3. Strong drinks. 4. Dim lighting which makes me look far more attractive. If I lived in the area, I could see this quickly becoming one of my regular spots.

  • Versive V.

I've been going to the Mecca for years and I can say with absolute certainty, that if you don't like this place you're barely human. Nine times out ten the food is very good greasy-spoon, with the occasional meh. The employees and the regulars have legitimate, caring relationships (even if they're sometimes one-way) and the way they interact shows a level of humanity that supersedes "service". This place is classic American, with all the things you'd expect of that title on the menu and character that goes well beyond the TGIF concept of flair. Joints like the Mecca are a dieing breed these days so treat it with care.

Stopped in at Mecca after a few drinks at another location - We wanted something greasy to pad our stomachs for the rest of the night and my friend suggested the tuna melt. I am ALL about tuna melts. I have to say it was mighty tasty, not too full of tuna (so it didn't spill out the side), still moist (the tuna not the bread) and had the great Kraft American cheese slice we all know and love. The only down side is that the bread was a tad burned but I still loved it and ate ALL of it. I have to say that the coleslaw, not so great. Just tasted like vinegar. The waitress was freaking hilarious and our food got out quick fast and in a hurry!

Matty H. Found this place back in 2010, got in late night at the Queen Ann from Honolulu and this was the only place open. Apprehensive at first looked like a dive and rowdy but SURPRISE! Waitress was nice and friendly especially for that late night end of her shift. Food was great Salad, Steak and Sandwiches. Coffee was hot and refilled as well as the water and soft drinks (too late for beers) all in all we ended up eating there quite often during our 5 day stay Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Place across from Queen Ann was supposed to be good, but after a drunk patron got tossed by the bouncer after screaming he'd get even with the place didn't go back. And the food wasn't that great. Good combo, stay at the Queen Ann and meals at the Mecca Cafe good Seattle vacation. Like the city of Seattle will do this combo again soon.

.... and the Number One thing I miss about living on Lower Queen Anne: Taking the monorail to work! Psyche. It's Mecca. I miss Mecca the most. You know how they say you should do one thing every single day which scares you a little? Breakfast at Mecca counts for like a week.

First visit, 2 weeks ago.......5 Stars. Second visit, tonight,,...2 Stars. First visit: 1/2 pound ground beef steak, fries, sauteed FRESH carrots, beans, squash and a nice green salad for $10.49. Fresh! Delicious! Beautiful plating! Service by Mary aka ShortCake was wonderfully attentive and pleasant. It felt like when you are winning on a slot machine....why doesn't everyone want to play this particular machine? So good and satisfying. With that meal still singing in my head, I went to Mecca for a second visit.... --Meat loaf, mashed potatoes and gravy for $10.49. I assumed it came with the salad, like visit #1. WRONG. A small salad cost $4.59 MORE. The bland meat loaf was sliced into three, 1/4 inch wide pieces. The mashed potatoes were lumpy and room temperature (an immersion blender and some hot milk would have solved both problems.) And the gravy.....tinny and phony-tasting and poured over everything. Yuck. Service was only adequate. Had to ASK for a coffee refill. At $2.29 for a cup, you'd think refills would come automatically, like at any good diner. So often the % tipped depends on beverage service! Guess at Mecca, you have to read the menu very carefully and hope you get the right mix of cooks and waitstaff. Visit #1 was great. Visit #2 was pretty unpleasant.

Sweet~ another greasy spoon to add to the list of weekend breakfast runs! After early sample shopping on a Saturday morning in rainy Seattle- breakfast and black coffee in Queen Anne was the next destination. Loved the diner feel. Customers filled up the counter seating on the stools with the checkered flooring. And loved the cozy side tables, where I felt like I was in a boxcar~ (not in a bad way) MMMMm Joe's scramble: eggs w/ spinach, ground beef, parmesan, onions & garlic. That was delish! sidenote: bf thought the hashbrowns could have been crisper. that's a personal preference though. :) Pretty good breakfast/lunch menu~ had the usuals~ Nothing was out of the ordinary, just a good establishment, with frequent diners, good customer service filling up my coffee when needed...will be back ;)

This place gets an extra star, cause the lady waiting on my and my party (two over 21-ers, and me... the "minor") didn't believe me till I whipped out my drivers license to prove that I wasn't 21, cause she repeatedly asked if I, too, wanted a jack and coke... Personally, I prefer Jameson (neat), but as I am not yet of legal drinking age, this is difficult... Food was kinda like Beth's. Grease, grease, fat, protein, carbs, grease, and parsley garnish. Service was fast.

Hey, it's a Seattle diner. The kind we all know and love. The waitstaff may be a bit hungover and disorganized but they'll get the food to you. I've only had breakfast here but it never fails to meet my greasy, bacony needs. Lot's of food at very reasonable prices and although it's a bit hipster, it's not Cap Hill hipster so you don't feel like you're wading through disdain. One plus, I had breakfast here on Christmas Day (alone-cue the sad music). Mecca was open, it was busy and the staff was friendly and didn't seem bitter about having to work. It helped make a somewhat sad day a bit better.

The Mecca Cafe is my home away from home for comfort food, strong drinks, and atmosphere. I try to jump around the menu, but their blue plate special - meatloaf and mashed potatoes keeps calling me when I have a hollow leg to fill. Unless you're sitting in that booth right under the speaker and trying to have a conversation, the audio level and music is good. The staff is everywhere from friendly to amusingly surly, and the drinks are properly stiff for reasonable prices. It's a great place to go if you want to get a generous plate of food and a drink in a diner with character.

Besides the good food, the following exchange between a waitress and 2 average Joe customers demonstrates why I love the Mecca: Waitress: "Sorry no. I can't do milk shakes on Saturdays. Once I start up that machine everyone wants one and its too busy right now. Avg Joes: :( Waitress: "You know what, I'll make the milk shakes. But if other people start ordering them, I'm coming back here and kicking your ass. I swear to God." Avg Joes: :) I'm happy to report no ass-whoopin' occurred as a result of the milk shakes.

I have a favorite little lower Queen Anne routine... go to Pesos to put our name in for brunch, then head over to Mecca to grab a cocktail in their bar and wait for our table. Nothing like pre-funking breakfast. The drinks are good and come in my favorite type of well cocktail glass (I have a favorite type of WELL DRINK GLASS? Maybe it's time to cut back on the bar scene...) and the bartenders serving them up are quick, sometimes surly, never chatty or cutesy. It's a grungy atmosphere with great coaster art and signs on the wall, definitely a lot of random conversation pieces in the "decor" here... This isn't a down-home diner for a darling family breakfast, it's a cheap and dirty spot to get down with some alcohol. Don't even kid yourself that the food will probably be good... in my experience it isn't... stick to the bar side. I love Mecca for what it is, and a stiff well greyhound before breakfast is a fine tradition to me.

I actually just went for breakfast - It's a greasy spoon that serves the trick. I wanted to find a place near Queen Anne that served Eggs Benedict, and I found one. I opted to order the Strawberry French Toast combo instead. Bacon was nice and crisp and eggs were fluffy. The French Toast was prepared well, but it wasn't orgasmic, as it can often be. My friend ordered a savory, tasty Prime Rib scramble. I'm fond of the dark, nighthawks-ish decor as well. I wish I had a place like this in my neighborhood in San Francisco.

Hmmm. Old crusty cold toast with either too much butter or too little. Eggs? Just the same! I had runny egg whites everywhere. Burned bacon. Perfect place if you enjoy listening to the staff bitch about their jobs and personal lives. Good coffee though. I dare you to order a waffle and a milkshake!

I have been going to the mecca for a long ass time.....why 1. solid pour on the hard stuff 2. good diner food....love the fries 3. great people..who chat with each other..best nights..wed-thurs 4. good location..and parking is a breeze, except on weekends 5. it has stayed true to what it does best...if you have to ask...then you have not been to the mecca

we had the last booth all the way inside at the end. only had coffee. it wasn't that hot and wasn't really that good. the waitress got us our coffees and left us alone. it was a late friday night. it was a great place to go to have a really serious talk. the perfect place for it. thank you, M.C. I will see you again.

I love the Mecca. It's perfect for what it is: an unpretentious diner/bar that hasn't been overrun with new money and hipsteritis. We get just the right amount of hospitality and attitude, good drinks and reliable food. It's even cheap and down-home enough for my parents. Thanks to the Mecca for being our second living room with the great jukebox.

I can't remember the first time I went here, but I love it. I don't know of any place with such decent, strong coffee. Mecca is what I do when I'm hung over and it's never failed me. If the Joe's Scramble and 4 cups of coffee doesn't make you feel better you're in trouble.

A block away from our Hotel, Mecca Cafe was going to be a quick bite before hitting the road. Instead, Mecca turned into one of the highlights of our trip to Seattle. Yes, you can call it a dive. Yes, the service is curt. Yes, it was one of the best breakfasts I've had in years. Let me start with the bacon. Thick cut, is REALLY thick cut at Mecca. I've told my closest friends that it's like I've never HAD bacon until Mecca. The eggs were fluffy, fresh and the perfect counterpoint to the extra crispy bacon. The pancakes were warm billowy and light. The creamy butter and syrup were not standard either. All of the coffee in Seattle is serious and Mecca's was no different. 3 cups and I was ready for the day. I will be making the pilgrimage back to Mecca for SWINE! I LOVE YOUR BACON!!!!!

I agree with the yelper below who commented on the female waitress who works here late at nights (this was my second experience with her). During my first experience at the mecca, I was served a raw hamburger-yuck. My most recent experience was met with food that was barely average (had a burger melt-meat was over cooked, bun was tough) and the service was terrible. Rule number one for waitstaff: do not berate your clientele, especially for being polite. Because I said 'please' and 'thank you' to the waitress, she acted very sarcastic, as if only those 'yuppies' (spoken about in the other post) use words that denote gratitude for service received. In other bad news, I can also attest that the bathrooms are terrible-how they can pass a health code inspection is beyond me. Stay away from this place unless: you are so drunk you don't care what kind of food and service you receive.

If you're coming here for a mimosa served in a pint glass, you'll be well served here. Otherwise, don't expect much from the food, service, or ambiance -- it's not bad, but it's nothing to write home about. I had their "classic" clubhouse, which was more bread than beacon or turkey. My friend had their corn beef hash, as was mildly satisfied. FYI - if you're coming as a group, know that they do not split tabs; so bring cash or pony up.

The best thing about the Mecca is Sharon. She is not only gorgeous, but she has a way about her that makes you feel right at home. I had never been here, but she made me feel so welcome that I ended up staying for 3+ hours because of her easygoing nature. She served people that were obviously regulars (knew their drinks and names) with the same sweet, yet sassy attitude that she took care of me with. I will be sure to make a special trip back here!

I have a lot of love for the Mecca, but it has been up and down over the years. I recently had the Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes, and I inhaled it. The steak, just crispy enough on the outside, and the potatoes were portioned on XL size, with tasty gravy. Monday was a good night. A bit slow, but very good counter help and quick service on the meal. I will be going back for more.

Cafe Mecca is split down the middle by a wall that seperates the bar from the old style Diner. This makes each side "cozy" if you're enjoying yourself and "claustrophobic" if you're not. Fortunately for you the drinks are stiff so you'll be enjoying yourself in no time. The staff is hilarious. I was served by a very large, very mean looking bartender who would look at me as if I was a pussy very time I ordered a Irish Car Bomb or a Mind Eraser. On second thought he was probably correct to do so. This bar is not for everyone. If you've stumbled your way to Uptown from Belltown you should probably keep on going to Ozzy's instead. This bar pulls a clientele base that doesn't include you're average collar popping fratboy.

I went for the breakfast and what a breakfast it was. Good, old fashioned, stop your heart breakfast - just what i wanted. Everything was cooked perfectly, eggs were over hard (not even a slightly undercooked center), excellent sausage links, the hash browns were nice and crunchy (not squishy), and the raspberry jam they have there is delicious. My only complaint was the coffee. Meh. My favorite part of the whole experience was my waitress. She was cheerful and sweet and really made my day. She was probably the most friendly server I had in the entire time I was in Seattle.

We ate here for breakfast based on the reviews. I had eggs, toast, sausage patty and hashbrowns. It was delicious and felt fresh. My friend had french toast and bacon. The bacon was delicious and not greasy. It was just the right amount of food to make us full but not stuffed. It was delicious and cheap, exactly what we needed on our road trip.

Just had lunch there with a few friends and nobody enjoyed their food. Plus our service was awful. Our waitress was a you know what. My buddy ordered chicken fried steak and she said they were all out. Then immediately got mad at him for taking too long to order when he looked back at the menu to find something else. WTF? And then when we get our check 18% gratuity was already added. You're so lucky there was seven of us you rude POS.

Mecca equals a happy belly for me!! Well... most of the time anyhow. My first visit here was years ago...for a hangover breakfast (express shock and dismay here). It was my first evarrr chicken fried steak... ummm... yesssss. DELISH! I lurv chicken fried steak! I have yet to taste one I like as much as the Mecca's version. Crispy and smothered in country gravy with a mountainous side of mashers...ah, sweet gluttony... it's a little out of control, but occasionally, it's the only thing that will do (especially after a night on the booze). Another favorite of mine is their corned beef hash. I think it's the only meal that I don't even bother picking the bell peppers out of! Salty/tasty goodness with two fried eggs on top and a side of toast. I've never been able to finish even half the plate. I've been known to show up here on a Saturday for a natter with a friend, but I'm happy to bring a book for company and dine alone. The servers are pretty efficient...and friendly for the most part. And they don't seem to mind when I help myself to more coffee. Good stuff!!

Jonesy is the best. One time I was in here, I decided to keep it reasonable and limit myself to two drinks. When he asked if I wanted another, I said no, and then a minute later, another drink had magically appeared, on the house. I asked my friend if he thought Jonesy had heard me. He said yes, but that Jonesy is just awesome like that. Long live Jonesy!

I just moved to lower Queen Anne and this was the first place I ate on a Saturday night. I instantly fell in love with this place. First of all, they serve breakfast all day, which was an amazing discovery because I told my friend just hours before that "all I need to do is find a good place for some breakfast." The atmosphere is quirky and relaxed. There's a full bar. A dining room with an old cafe-style counter in one half of the place and a more late-night-feel bar and lounge in the other half. I had the most amazing French Dip sandwich I can ever remember. The fries were also awesome. If you live in the area, you must visit the Mecca Cafe!

The last time I attended to eat there was a Friday night around 12 am. This time they turn the lights too low to read the menus and turn the music up too loud that you cannot keep much of a conversation with your friend. The last time I went I waited maybe 10 minutes at a booth and didn't even get waited on. I moved up to the counter and was treated so rudely by the rocker puck waitress so I left and enjoyed a few slices of pizza at Pagliacci Pizza. Daylight can be the best time to go because the music isn't too loud and the staff is nice then.

A group of us walked into to Mecca the other night because we were hungry and thirsty and thought The Mecca Cafe would hit the spot. As we walk in we are all carded, the door man tells us it because he's checking for terrorist seeing as this was Mecca and all, I wasn't sure what to do so I just giggled and smiled* because hey I got carded I didn't care why. We find a booth in the dining area and grab it, waters brought right away and menus magically appear. So far the greasy spoon diner is working for me. I go simple, grilled cheese with cheddar and French fries, extra crispy, side of ranch please, oh and a Stella too, OK maybe not to simple after all. Grilled cheese was perfect the right amount of greasy-ness with the right amount of cheesy-ness. The French fries on the other hand were too soggy and limp for me I tried saving them but I couldn't they tasted OK but they didn't wow me, everyone else loved them though. Prices were right, the beer was good, the food was hit the spot and I can now say I've been to Mecca and back. *For the record yes I do know he was just trying to be funny and wasn't really looking for terrorist.

Feel like getting shit faced on the cheap? Look no further than Mecca when in Queen Anne. The first time I came here was after a Sonics game and I'm incredibly thankful to my DD that night. I can also openly admit that another night I came here while sitting at the bar I splashed some Chambord into my drinks all night (everything else was a bad compliment). I know, i know! All I can say is that I get devilish when I'm drunk and it sure was fun knowing I could get away with it! Otherwise, I would recommend NOT doing the above but be sure to come in for the Sunday drink specials on 3 day holiday weekends.

I gave this place one star because I ordered the pancakes, sausage links and eggs and the eggs and sausage were good. However, the pancake werent good at all. Never in my life when I eat pancakes, do I leave about 75% on my plate. The pancakes were thick and just didnt taste good. I hate starting my morning with a bad breakfast. Something told me to go to Pesos again but I decided to try something new. Next time I will follow my gut and go elsewhere.

I probably can't say a lot about the Mecca that hasn't already been said, but I'll try. Two or three years ago, shortly after moving to Queen Anne, I tried the Mecca out a couple of times, and something always went wrong. Either the service was awful, or they didn't have ANY pie, or my order got messed up. It was frustrating, and I didn't go back for quite awhile. That's not to say I swore it off completely. The red walls, moody lighting, and general greasiness had definitely had an effect on me. What I had eaten or drank was good. So, months later, I was just a notch below being a regular, and thanking the Mecca for its existence. Tuna melts and french toast and milkshakes oh my! There's no time of day I haven't been in here and walked out satisfied. Fried mozarella and booze and coffee round out my menu favorites. The service has vastly improved and the Mecca is now a definite winner in my book of Seattle restaurants/dive diners.

I visited Mecca Cafe for my 24th birthday and had breakfast there. I was staying at a nearby hotel and it was within walking distance so I decided to give it a try. It looks a dive bar which would bother most people but I decided it was worth eating my birthday breakfast there. The service was great and I was able to sit where I wanted. I sat at the counter cause it was just me eating and I was impressed by the atmosphere inside the "restaurant." Within a minute of sitting down I was offered a cup of coffee which was nice. The food was good but I thought the hash browns and sausage was too greasy but the rest was great. The entire staff was friendly but I would not recommend messing with them. Some crazy guy tried skipping out on his bill which was just a coffee and the waitress chased after him and got him to come back and pay. I was impressed by her courage, she remained calm as he was being rude and cursing at her. She was a nice lady and was very friendly. If I'm ever in the Seattle area I would go back to Mecca Cafe.

This place is cute and cozy - a little shotgun shack with booths on one side and a vintage counter on the other. You'll find the usual Seattle crowd in here: bearded 20-something grunge/hipsters (grungsters), worn-out alcoholics, and middle aged white folks in polar fleece and Birkenstocks. Our breakfast was served by an unhappy looking waitress. The toast was burnt black on both sides. Eggs were runny and swimming in oil. The sausage was small, over cooked and gamey. Hashbrowns were mushy and flavorless. All in all, a pretty miserable meal. On the plus side, the prices were low, and the neighborhood is cute.

My first night visiting Seattle, I had the good fortune of finding this place. There is nothing that stands out at the Mecca more than the staff...I think their motto is the best i've ever seen " Alchoholics serving Alcholics since .." anyhow the food : perfect for a diner, especially if it's late and your drunk the drinks: perfect for a dive bar, altough I only had a couple of beers the service: perfect for a dive bar / diner the result: good times had by all

  • Rita R.

This has become my default for breakfast. Good food. Consistent. Greasy. Hmm, the service; I enjoy it, but then again I get really tired of the sugar-coated niceness of almost every place you'll ever walk into. Minus one star for the waffle iron being closed by 2pm.

I went in with couple of coworkers here before the UW-Seattle U game for a drinks so I'm only giving it a 4 for the bar/drinks. I like the dive bar, grungy, hipster feel and price of drinks couldn't be beat since it was happy hour. I mean I bought 2 rounds of micro brews for 3 people and kept it under $20. We took shots of Bushmill that was a very generous pour. When I paid, the bartender even asked to check for my ID b/c it was on my credit card and stated he was only doing so because I requested. That was awesome. I can't think of the last time a bartender has done that (and yes, I wish they all did, that's why I have CHECK ID on it you know?) So that touch of class went a long way with me. The environment was hip and laid back yet divey. Definitely a spot I'll be frequenting again when I'm need of drinks in Queen Anne.

It was my first time to Seattle I just got off the boat in the morning and I was feelin really hungry. My hotel was right on Queen Anne Ave so I stolled on down to Mecca Cafe. I loved the vibe. I ordered the simple 2 pancakes and an egg, not expecting too much. It was pretty good. The pancakes were hot, fluffy, & huge. It was a rather decent breakfast. The only negative comment I have is for the waitress, she was a little absent-minded. (but, I can't blame her, it was her first day :)

The Mecca Cafe doesn't look like much from the outside, especially being located right next to Blockbuster and Dicks. But the inside is full of charm and considering its been around for almost 100 years I have to give it credit for a atmosphere. I tried a basic breakfast which was decent. The bartender is generous with the drinks as well.

Great atmosphere, the foods not THAT great was there on Saturday and the mash potatoes weren't cooked all the ways. Some of the waitress's have a bad attitude some of them are Awsome. The inconsistency in good service and food makes it frustrating because I like the menu a lot.

I love Mecca! Their onion rings are delicious and just the right amount of greasy. They serve their sodas with a little pitcher so you don't have to wait for your server to refill your glass. It's a really cute place inside, and the marquee (when they actually change it) never fails to make me laugh.

I go here to drink not to eat....It is old school and that is something this dude needs in this town. The food will fill you after a night of drinking. I have a fav bartender she has been pouring my drinks since I was 21 her name starts with a "c" and I love her!! This place is not for the posers (most Seattle residents today)..so beat it we dont want you here anyway....

  • Dennis B.

I know it is a dive bar and there is a different set of standards for such establishments, but I was disappointed with the food. Everything else can be divey, but you got to do better than good food to earn high marks from me if the place feels like a David Lynch film. The service was a bit off, too: fries were late, drink was late, they were out of a few things. I won't go back.

    (2)
  • Jamie B.

    1. Fantastic greasy fries. 2. One of the best juke boxes I've found so far in Seattle. 3. Dark and dank- somehow irresistible. 4. The bartender will never smile at you. In fact, he might glare. I'm down with that. Flippin fantastic.

  • Genevieve R.

This place is 100 times better than a bottle of IBprofen and a dark room for the hangover blues. It has cured many of mine, and it can cure yours too if you give it a chance. But you might as well take the IBprofen before you go anyway -- just in case. :) You cannot go wrong here unless you are looking for friendly service. On busy weekend they don't split checks but if you have cash it's not a big deal. Mecca is definitely the place to be when you wake up at a 11 feeling like you need some grease and a cozy place to sit to feast.

  • Katherine S.

I've had some decent and also some pretty bad meals (French dip) here, but my devotion is unshakable. It's called the Mecca for a reason. Your Coca Cola comes in a pitcher! And wow, the chicken strips are good-- try the honey mustard! There have been times when I sat at the counter eating breakfast and the waitress was M.I.A., but most of the time the staff is really likable. Our waitress last night (11pm, Friday) was chatty and charmingly blunt and when her dishwasher walked out on her, she was equally pissed off and nonchalant about it. That kind of thing seems to happen alot, anyway.

**hiccup** Oh sorry, I think I may still be drunk from the night I hit this bar probably 8 years ago, no actually 9 or 10...clearly being drunk it's hard to remember. What I do remember however is walking in and having the most kick ass time with a bunch of drunken locals that embraced lil miss LA and made me feel like one of the gang. The bartender was cool, the bar was sticky and dammit, if that doesn't spell a win win combination if I've ever heard one. Yes, The Mecca is awesome and the second my purdy lil toes hit ground again in Seattle, I'm there!

I find myself coming here more and more often. It started out as just after-work dive-bar drinks, and now it has blossomed into a regular haunt for breakfasts -- to help recover from those after-work drinks. This place IS the greasy spoon. And dive bar extrordinaire.

  • Matt C.

I was sorely disappointed by the bartender, and left without even being acknowledged by her after standing patiently for *no exaggeration* 10 minutes for her to finish another customer's drinks. During that time she glanced at me once and quickly looked away, never saying or doing anything to indicate she knew I was waiting. That's forgivable - bartenders are busy people and I understand. BUT when another couple walks in and she immediately takes their order after I waited for 10 minutes for my turn was enough to make me turn on my heel and go. I'm sure the place has it's strong points, but service ain't one of 'em. At least, it isn't if you're a rather quiet, unassuming fellow who doesn't mind waiting so long as I get my turn. Guess I need to be one of those pushy guys to get a drink there. I'll never know, cause I won't be back.

we got seated quickly. took another 10 minutes to get someone to take our order and 30 minutes to get our food. waiter comped my coffee to make up for the wait. water was never refilled. food was decent and basically what I was expecting. coffee was good and freshly brewed.

After living in QA for a couple years now, I can't believe I only made it to Mecca Cafe today. I read through the reviews and was pretty excited to try it out. • Robert W.

You cant go wrong here if you're in Lower Queen Anne and looking for some great diner food but the only disappointing thing about this place is their hours of operation have been decreasing throughout the years as it's gone from being open 24 hours daily, to only being open 24 hours weekends, to only being open until 4am weekends, and now apparentely according to Yelp their only open until 3am weekends even though their website still shows they're open till 4am. I've tried to go here after 3am on weekends only to find they were closed, and so it seems the Yelp hours are correct and it's disappointing that in a neighorhood with the growth and influx of new people that the hours are decreasing but I say enjoy the Mecca while you can as it may not be around much longer as most one story buildings in Seattle are getting demolished and replaced with highrises, and so it wouldn't be surprising to see it also eventually happen to this block either.

First time here and YUM! i love the simplicity of this place. My friend and i ordered the deluxe burger (Lean ground beef patty with lettuce, tomatoes and onions. Served with your choice of potato salad, coleslaw, mecca fries or mashed potatoes and a pickle garnish.) and were thoroughly pleased. I was asked what kind of cheese i wanted! Most places have their standard & you don't usually choose the cheese unless you specifically ask, but I had a choice. A nice surprise! The burger was served open face style so if you didnt want the tomatoes or onions you didn't have to add it to your burger! simple, hassle free. The fries were also very flavorful and for once, not salty!! Sodas were served in pitchers so drink up! Def going to be skipping Dicks (a little ways down the same street) and swinging by Mecca's more often. Will be back!

What can be better than grabbing a hardy breakfast on a rainy Sunday morning? Umm... being in Seattle of course! After browsing on Yelp I found out that the popular Mecca Cafe had earned a reputable 4 stars. So I figured, I had to give this place a try. When you do arrive expect to wait in line, since the Mecca Cafe will be busy early in the morning, and although the portions are large the restaurant is not. In total there were probably 7 reasonably sized booths with the remainder of seating options left at the counter. Service at the Mecca Cafe is prompt and friendly. The servers are helpful and will answer your questions, and in case you're having a tough time deciding on what to order, you can always ask for recommendations. I chose to get the corned beef hash breakfast, which came with eggs and toast. My girlfriend decided to go with the Joe's special, which mixed eggs, ground beef, onions, garlic, Parmesan cheese and spinach, and it also included a side of hash potatoes and toast. From what I was told the food at the Mecca Cafe is made from scratch, so I was pretty excited for my corned beef hash. Once my meal arrived I was pleased to see just how big the portions were. The corned beef was seasoned quite nicely, and it had an incredibly satisfying meatiness too it. I ordered my eggs over easy so that I could mix some of the yoke in with my hash, which made the meal even more delectable. The Joe's special was also quite good. Essentially a scramble, the Joe's special is an extremely hardy yet light selection that infuses all the ingredients very nicely. Overall The Mecca Cafe is a really good cafe. Sadly my stay in Seattle was short, so I didn't get a chance to try their popular chicken fried steak, nor the turkey sandwich special or even the 1lbs french fries. But from my one experience at the Mecca Cafe I can easily say that I'll be coming back for more! To happy eatings.

If you like your cafes old, greasy, and dark then you need to come here. Even if you don't, you should still probably come here. Sister restaurant to the 5 Point in Belltown, Mecca Cafe is all the deliciousness without the crowd or angry members of Rage Against the Machine. Oh, there is the added bummer that they aren't open 24 hours, but they do stay open until 4am on weekends and that's good enough for me. Health freaks beware: the food is heavy and comfort-y but delicious. They do have salads, but why would you want a salad at a place like this? Go for the burger, or at least a plate of fries. You won't be disappointed!

Was looking for a great place while working nights. The best breakfasts are original, real, and greasy, exactly what Mecca Cafe had to offer. The service was good despite it still being busy at midnight. I prefer to go basic with eggs, hasbrowns, toast, and a meat. Everything was cooked nicely and my my over-medium eggs were exactly what I wanted. The place has an old dark feel and when you want a great bite, a drink, nothing fancy and without the fancy prices, this is the place to come. I hope to come back here again.

My friend and I were looking for a brunch place at around 3PM on Sunday..and it's safe to say that we couldn't find any since brunch usually ends at around 3PM. Because we were pretty desperate for food, we ended up coming in here after looking it up on Yelp. And I have to say, this is a pretty interesting find. I will agree with a few other Yelpers that this place is basically a dive bar with booths and somehow serves diner food. So if you're looking for a typical diner kind of atmosphere, this is definitely not for you. HOWEVER, I will say that this place is pretty good for diner food. For what you pay for, they give you a lot. Plus, the food is pretty good. I got the "Turkey sandwich" which wasn't really a sandwich, but I didn't mind because it had mashed potatoes. And gravy. And that right there is my comfort food. It was slices of turkey on top of bread, topped with gravy. So good. The mashed potatoes were also good - there were small chunks of potatoes, so you could tell that it wasn't made from powder. Again, the plate itself was huge, so I was actually really surprised I was able to finish the whole thing.. Not the traditional diner that you'd expect, but it's pretty good if you want something that's not pricey and filling.

Came in for a couple of drinks on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty busy. Great atmosphere and good music. 4 stars for the friendly service!

I had a wonderful time there! My waitress was on point she kept my wine glass full during the whole meal! The menu has an excellent selection. The eggs Benedict are to die for! Go for great place!

I was visiting Seattle just overnight and picked this place based on pics and reviews. The place does not look like much from the outside and I probably would have kept walking if it wasn't my intended destination. However, the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and country gravy was hands down the best I've ever eaten. It took longer to get it than I imagined it should for a Tuesday early evening when it wasn't all that busy, but it was so worth it. I also ordered a Margarita since it was on special, but it wasn't great. Instead of getting a second one, I switched to soda, which came in a mini pitcher. Adorable.

We had just checked out of our hotel and wanted to find a quick place to eat before going on a few more adventures. We came upon this dive bar/breakfast cafe which officially established my bf's conclusion that every restaurant in Seattle has a full bar. LOL We came into this establishment and I didn't really like the vibe at first. No one said hello or motioned us to seat or even really acknowledged us. I waited awkwardly for a while in our booth until our server finally came to greet us. If it weren't for her attention afterwards, I would've rated Mecca a little lower. She was conversational and affable. My bf also has a hobby of collecting shirts, mainly bro tanks, from places we visit. And our server fetched the different styles and sizes of shirts they offered. However, he prefers shirts that are softer and ended up not getting one. Before we looked at the menu, we decided to get our 'coffee' fix by ordering stouts :). Eventually we decided on a hearty steak breakfast for him and eggs florentine for me. It was fine. Fuel for the day

So i go in, sit at a table that hasn't been bussed yet. It's busy. Evidently they don't like that and evidently i'm supposed to know this (??). This weird man bun fellow gives me shit about it. He's sporting this smug condescension and acting like his shithole establishment is actually Mecca and I'm just required to make an annual pilgrimage for social purposes. Rude. Avoid.

We were looking for a bar before the NCAA games. This is several blocks from the arena, but we ventured anyway. Doesn't anyone else in this city drink in the morning? Come on! The line was ridiculously long. Not because the food is good, but because it was about the only thing open in the neighborhood (at 9 am - seriously?). We finally sat down. I had biscuits and gravy and hashbrowns, and they were painfully average. No flavor, wrong consistency. The hashbrowns were undercooked on the inside. I slammed my beer and paid the check because we had to get to the arena. Very disappointing experience.

I had some late night cravings and found this place on Yelp. The fact that it's open until 4AM is awesome!! Taste: 4/5 I had the hot roast beef sandwich with mash potatoes and gravy. YUM! The mash is buttery, and the gravy is flavorful. They give you a copious amount of roast beef too!!! Egg bread was meh, it would have been really delicious with a nice crunchy bread instead. Value: 4/5 For $9.49 I can't complain a whole lot. For being pretty late at night, getting a good amount of food, and the quality of food, it was pretty darn worth it! Service: 4/5 Our waitress was nice. Food came out quickly. Waitress came back with a mini pitcher of water to make sure that we had enough! No complaints here!! Decor: 4/5 A little on the small side, but it serves it's purpose. Decor is about what you would expect from a late night breakfast diner but a little bit darker! I came here completely sober, I can imagine that after a night of drinking in Capital Hill this place would be absolutely amazing!!!

Big fan! I had the corned beef hash which was a giant plate of corned beef hash with 2 eggs over easy and 4 slices of whole wheat toast. Coffee - 4 stars Corned Beef Hash - 4 stars - yummy, well cooked and tasty. I prefer my corned beef hash with bigger chunks of corned beef but this was pretty good. Eggs over easy - perfectly cooked - 5 stars Toast - 5 stars. You might wonder why I rate the toast. But to me a good toast makes the meal. These were nicely toasted, still crispy on one side and amply buttered on the other. Great to still hold the eggs over easy or spread some strawberry jam on top. Great friendly service, food came out super fast and our foods all came out at the same time. Really comfortable place. I'd definitely be back again soon!

We had amazing service for 7:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning. While this clearly isn't a place for kids (no booster seats, let alone high chairs), we didn't feel unwelcome at all despite our two little ones. In fact, when the server brought out my son's pancake order, the chef had done it into the shape of Mickey Mouse! I only ever noticed one woman working, yet she did an amazing job of tending the tables and the cash register. The food was solidly good, and there wasn't any wait. I definitely recommend checking this place out if you value service!

This "Cafe" looks more like a diner that merged with a dive bar. Classic diner seating, with dive-bar inspired lamps and decor. Got the #6: One waffle served with two eggs (got them scrambled). The waffle was thinner than I would have liked, but was extremely dense. Not bad, but I like them big and fluffy (that's what she said). Eggs were standard - nothing to write home about. For $6.49 - a quick and easy breakfast with no wait and good service.

Gem of a place! Huge portions, tasteful gravy and sauces! We tried salmon fish and steak fries with tarter sauce and cole slaw and turkey cranberry sandwich drizzled with hearty gravy! To wash it down with shock top! Ending with a chocolate cherry cake! As we fall into food coma, we're already dreaming of coming back here!

I'm a huge fan of Mecca Cafe and Bar! This place has charm, style, and atmosphere. It is the epitome of a classic greasy spoon diner. One side of this place is a full bar where they have a couple of larger tables with more seats. Otherwise the diner side only has booths that seat a max of 4 and bar sitting. They serve excellent food. My favorite dish to order is the #7 Breakfast; 2 eggs, hashbrowns, toast and bacon. The bacon is key. You get four large, thick, slices of the most flavorful, meaty bacon ever! You cannot get bacon this good anywhere else. Guaranteed! Their soft drinks come in these mini pitchers. I challenge you to finish one. You can also get your water in one of these clever containers. Service is awesome. I've never had a bad experience here; even when they are crazy busy.

Out of towner brought here by local friends. This place is your classic greasy spoon breakfast joint. They do breakfast right! No fancy flair on classics just your good old American breakfast. I ordered a two egg breakfast came with eggs of your choosing hash browns and meat, I did the bacon and toast. The restaurant was quiet since it was a Thursday morning but they orders took a little longer than expected. When our plates came out it was worth the wait. The bacon was cut thick and perfectly cooked. I was told even my vegetarian friend had a bite of bacon the first time he came here because they are known for how yummy it is! All the sauces and jams are at the table so you can just dig in! I ate every bite! The portions are a bit big but perfect for a hangout or feeding a hungry crew of night nighters !

Ate here for the first time yesterday & ordered a small plate of fish (fried salmon) & chips. The fried salmon was tasty & fresh. The chips, fresh homemade french fries, could have been a bit more crispy but was still delicious especially when dipped in the homemade tartar sauce. NOMNOMNOM! Loved the ambiance - a throwback divey diner & Mary (our server) was awesome with great tips!

The Mecca is the perfect embodiment of Seattle. And being a native this is not a compliment. There is absolutely nothing pleasant at all about this place and after years of reluctantly agreeing to meet friends here for a drink or meal, and after countless torturous experiences with messed up orders, rude bartenders and rude patrons I have recently refused to ever step foot in this hole ever again. I imagine that eating at the Mecca is what it would be like if non-convicts were allowed to eat in a prison caffeteria....except it's much darker, dirtier, and depressing. This is the place you go when you have hit rock bottom. Even then you may feel like you haven't hit the very bottom after you take a look around and realize there is something more horrible than your life's situation. First off, let's address the bar area which is separate from the restaurant in front. The people that run the bar appear to have severe mood disorders. At any moment you may piss them off. This could be a serious medical issue and I do not state this lightly. Sometimes they are pleasant and sometimes nothing shy of abusive and beligerent. Stay away. It's not cool. The restaurant portion in front is cleaner than the bar, but it's still a dive. The Servers are nice. But this is what any sane person would expect, so I cannot note this as something special. Their standard pleasantries also cannot make up for bartenders who don't pour good drinks, and an atmosphere that makes one wonder if there is puke under your table. The menu is nothing special. If someone forces you at gunpoint to go to the Mecca, order the corned beef hash. There's a 50 percent chance it won't be overcooked or re-heated. For a beverage, order something in a bottle that cannot be tampered with. Avoid ordering salad or fruit, or anything that may have extra bacteria or viruses. Don't drink the water. If you ignore everything I have said so far, please note this: NEVER GO HERE FOR WEEKEND BREAKFAST. Especially between 9am - noon. 1 star only because there isn't an option for 0 stars.

My friend and I stumbled upon this place via yelp while I was visiting her in Seattle. We were looking for a good brunch place with mimosas before we went to the Seahawks/49ers game. From the outside we were a little hesitant. It looks like a dive bar/diner. We didn't have any other options nearby so we went in and I'm glad we did! We grabbed two seats at the bar and both ordered mimosas. They are HUGE! And I watched them pour, mostly champagne. Awesome. The service was great and our food came quickly and it was enough food for 10 people. I ordered eggs Benedict with hash browns and it was seriously so good. The price was perfect for what we got. I would definitely come back here next time I'm in Seattle!

I have lived on the same block as Mecca for almost three years now, and one of the main perks is getting to smell freshly cooked bacon for several hours every day. I like to check out all the different art they have on display and love the old school booths and the stickers on the lampshades. I generally go for something outrageous when I eat here, like chicken fried steak or a giant waffle. With a side of bacon!

The diner itself has character along with the patrons and servers. The strawberry shake we got was alright. The gave us the extra which is always good. My steak was a bummer though. It was so tough I can say it was one of the worst steaks I've ever had. The hubby had a burger. I think he enjoyed it which probably is the reason for the 3 stars.

I just love this place and make it a point to stop here at least once if not more when I'm in town visiting my son. I've had breakfast , lunch and dinner here and have never had a bad meal or service. It has a nice local feel to it and the drinks are nice and strong, both in the diner and the bar. It can get really crowded, especially in the morning for breakfast but it's a great place to eat and have a drink or two. Red headed bartender with long hair is hilarious and fun to talk to. Great place for locals and out of towners, highly recommended.

Great American style cafe! Our server Betsy was awesome, and helped me decide on the fish and chips (made with salmon btw) this meal was great, and they don't hold back on the portions. The fries were these huge homemade cuts, and the deep fried salmon made for a truly unique take on good old fish and chips. I highly recommended this place.

This place was hidden in this part of town, but the food was yummy. I had a blueberry pancake breakfast and my hubby had the salmon fishing and chips. Both were excellent. The only thing we didn't care for was the environment (a bit dark), but the food was delish.

I've only started to come to Mecca after wanting the food that 5 point used to sell. Everything that I've ordered has be very delicious. Just your basic american greasy spoon fare. Chicken fried steak, hamburger steak, deli sandwich, mashed potatoes...I could keep going and it has all been really good. The service is good and the place is clean. I'll be coming back here over 5 point from now on. Thanks for staying the same Mecca!

Fun little dive bar with an older friendly staff and a couple pin ball machines. Food is ok for just bar food. I had mozzarella sticks and taco meat nachos. The cheese was only on the top of the chips so the rest on the bottom were dry. We came here really hungry after a night of drinking. They sat us and let us eat at 1:45 am which was nice. :)

Would give 2 1/2 stars if an option. So this bar wins hand down the diviest dive bar I've ever been to. Bartenders were cool enough & food on the menu looked like good greasy spoon fare. I guess if that's your kind of thing then you might like it more than me. Hubby & I went here after dinner while killing time til it was time to see a movie across the street. Soda for cocktails tasted flat. Just not for me.

I've been here many times and I have always experienced decent greasy spoon style type food with a very friendly staff. The waitresses always seem fairly awesome and talkative. Best to avoid at certain times unless you don't mind a long wait for a table.

Breakfast/brunch was delicious. I had the salmon sauté - 3 egg omelet style with salmon, capers, cream cheese and red onions...hash browns that were very well done, crispy and buttery, although I didn't eat more than two bites since the omelet was gigantic. Also came with toast - sourdough was good but too much food! Lol Best coffee I've had in a really long time too. Husband had one egg, two sausage patties, hash browns, & sourdough bread. He also ordered their sweet roll! Holy heck that was YUMMY! He savored his breakfast too. Service was excellent. Coffee didn't run dry until I refused the last cup due to being too full!! Our waitress was attentive and personable. Ambiance was fun too. Ya'll should be checking it out.

This place has existed for over 80 years, and I love that about it. Something about thinking of all the good food and memories made for almost a century makes me really happy. Plus I can never resist the charm of an authentic diner. I can't believe I lived in Queen Anne for 2 years before giving this place a shot. I've had so many plates of greasy goodness here. The restaurant has the attitude of "Don't like our attitude? Then get out." which I typically detest. But since I've been here dozens of times, and I know what I want, that doesn't bother me. If you're someone who has a dozen customizations to your order or you need the waitress to return a third time while you finish deciding, there is chance you'll piss them off. Or not..sometimes they're quite accommodating and sweet. It really just depends on the day. Notable food favorites: A-MAZING country fried steak..yummy classic pancakes...great omelettes..really good turkey and gravy dinner. I have yet to be disappointed by a meal here. Always nice to have a neighborhood restaurant you can count on for good food and for making late night memories with your friends. :o)

The fact that one of the waiters shirts said 'Alcoholics Serving Alcoholics Since ___' was super funny. Love the diner settings. I'm from Jersey so we love diners! Great feel, hipster and super fun. Caffe Vita coffee, yum. Lots of choices for breakfast and the hashbrowns were amazing!! Greasy but amazingly delicious and I would love to go back. Good food for a good price. Staff was fun and friendly, what more could you ask for? A good stop to try out if you're hungry for breakfast. I can't say much about the other foods but I love a good diner breakfast.

Place is a dive with good food. Reason for the poor rating is it's hit or miss. One day food will be timely, another, it will be a total shit show. If you're one of those people who like Buds and Bloodys at 7am any time of the week then you'll love this place. As for me, I now go elsewhere. Too many bad experience in a row...and I live next door.

Delicious breakfast food at very reasonable prices, all damn day. They play good music and their drinks aren't half bad. The service has also been excellent all 3 times we stopped in. Two thumbs up. I won't knock off any stars for it, but this place is pretty busy all the time... especially after an event at Key Arena.

You can't go wrong with this place. Don't let the exterior fool you. Food is expertly prepared, delicious and plenty. Hash browns are crispy and browned. The bread must be homemade. Been there twice and considering a 3rd time. Breakfast is great. I had the chicken fried steak and eggs.

Everything you eat here is homemade and spot on. Best bacon in town. I tend to eat nothing but breakfast when I'm here because it's my go to drunk food and hangover cure food. I've been here multiple times and I had always experienced great food with a very friendly staff. I went there recently and I have to say it was the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. In my opinion, the waitress that served us was very rude and snarky. And when it was time to order, I asked to have the big breakfast with a side of toast. She then looks at me in disgust and replies "that's a lot of food". Firstly, I can spend my money however I choose to do so. Secondly, I was planning on sharing the toast with the rest of the table. Needless to say, I won't be returning any time soon.

I really liked Mecca for what it was- a greasy spoon diner that does breakfast late night for a good price. Visited after a Sounders game last week after 10 pm. This is a seat yourself kinda place, and there was just one not-clean-yet booth open in the smallish dining area when we walked in. Took a seat anyway and a server came by fairly quickly to clear it. Really liked our server, who was super sweet! I ordered the french toast/ egg combo. Large serving of french toast cooked well arrived pretty fast. Eggs were scrambled and cooked perfectly, and they get extra points for having Tapatio! I believe this was about $8. Another $2 for coffee, which was pretty good and worth getting if you're in the mood. Worth a stop if you are in the neighborhood; plan for a bar type of feel with loud(ish) rock playing through out your meal.

I just had the worst dining experience of my life at Mecca. We placed our order and waited patiently.... 15, 30, 45 minutes go by and we ask about our food. The bartender who took our order (looks like a low-rent Ted Nugent) said it would be out soon. We see him being extremely rude to other customers, telling them to get out of his table because their party isn't big enough. After an hour of waiting he says sorry guys at least 20 more minutes, you should just go. He follows that up by saying "it's not like I want to comp your meal and not get tipped". Go elsewhere, AWFUL experience

Worst dining experience of my life earlier today. We were "waited" on by the long haired, grungy cousin of Willie Nelson. The only waiting that occurred was us for our food. We waited for over an hour before Willie Nelson's cousin said that it would ONLY be 20 more minutes... While we were waiting we got to observe him treat other customers with extreme disrespect for sitting at a table that was meant for 6 people when they only had two people on their party. There were no other tables available in the restaurant which seemed a lot more like a half-way house for ex-cons with untreated anger management issues. Anyways, after being told we were going to have to wait an additional 20 minutes in addition to the 1+ hour we had already waited, we left. Once Willie Nelson's cousin realized we were leaving, he said "It's not like I want to comp your meal and lose out on a tip." Bro, comping our meal was your only shot at getting a tip at this point. Instead we walked out, and will never be back. Go to McDonalds for a classier breakfast, with better service...

It was oookay. Service was super slow. We sat at the bar and we were acknowledged by the bartender who let us know he's busy and sees us but he will be with us in a bit. We asked for water and were told the water and coffee were down at the end of the bar. No water, so I had to ask for the pitcher to be refilled! When we were about to order, we were not all ready immediately so he walked away and said he'd be back. Sooo, we finally ordered and got our food which was not bad. The experience was not too pleasant and there were places in vicinity that I'm sure would have been more of a pleasurable experience. The end!

We've been here a few times before, and have always had good service (it's usually a shorter blonde gal who's real sweet), but the service today was enough to make us decide to never come back. We sat down at a clean table, and for the next few minutes were ignored by the waitress. It's a bit busy, so whatever. Finally she walks by and tosses down two menus without a word. Minutes later she's behind the counter loudly complaining about how she hates customers who sit at tables without silverware (had the sign said that, we wouldn't have sat). Then she comes and takes our order - no hi, hello, thanks, your welcome, anything. Asked us what we wanted, turned and walked away. Next, a different lady brought us our water and my coffee. My friends water glass had lipstick stains on the rim! He said as much and the lady took it back and replace it - with not a word. I started drinking my coffee and saw that there were...crusties is the only thing I can think to describe it, what was in my coffee cup. So, didn't drink any coffee. Then, for the next 15 minutes, all the waitress did was complain about how busy it was (I've seen it way busier with less staff and it was fine) and how bad customers are - loudly enough for everyone to hear. The table behind us got up and left. The food was fine, though greasier than normal - though still good bar food, as always! The only "thanks" we got was when she brought us the tab. It kind of screamed "oh yea, I want you to tip me!" I didn't. I feel bad, but man - for such a great place, that one waitress ruined it for us forever. And that really sucks. But we did nothing to deserve such shitty service and such rude behavior.

Not worth the cost! Food was bland and used the same spice on all there dishes. The toast on the eggs Benedict was not even toast, one was burned the other tasted raw and as if it was tossed on a grill that had not been cleaned, did not even taste like English muffin. My cinnamon roll was hard as if it had been over cooked in mic(was not able to finish it). The gravy was tasteless, No sausage, and biscuits where doughy(sent them back). Best part of meal was hash browns. It was the only place walkable from hotel that was still serving breakfast, however in hindsight lunch somewhere else would have have been better.

Mecca.....what the fuck happened. you've always been pretentious in a "we don't give a fuck, look how much we don't give a fuck!" kind of way(eye roll), but at least you used to make a decent plate of diner food. fucking YUCK. everything, EVERYTHING on my plate, tasted like cinnamon. minus any salt, whatsoever. fucking YUUUUUCK. I miss Cafe Minnie's SO bad right now. also, capitan scrunchie? when you FORGET that I was drinking a mimosa and you fill my glass with nasty soda, you will DEFINITELY need to get me a new glass. you're a fucking moron and a terrible waiter. hope you die there.

Pretty good diner food, the greasy kind you crave after a night of drinking! We walked in with 9 people on a Sunday morning at 10am & magically they had tables to accommodate us immediately! Our server (also the bar tender) was quite a character, quirky & friendly with a bit of 'tude. He was fun & made our meal a good time. One of the girls at our table couldn't stay long enough for food so he sent her off with a Ho-Ho type pastry, so nice! For breakfast, I was being plain: 2 fried eggs with whole wheat toast & their legendary hash browns ($5.95), which is pretty hard to get wrong. The eggs were perfectly runny & the hash browns had a nice crispy crust, the way I like 'em! They also tasted like they were soaked in butter! Other people ordered more fun dishes, like corned beef hash, chicken fried steak, or smoked salmon scrambles ($10-$15) & everyone seemed pretty satisfied with their meals. Overall, I'd recommend this place for a casual breakfast or brunch with friends!

Keep this in mind as you read, it was late. Look, lets get this out in the open. It is a dive bar. Not a restaurant or "cafe", at best it is a diner with bar. They do a okay job at serving up basic (cheap product, cheap to customer) breakfast, burgers, and traditional American style dinners. Don't except more. Don't even except great service, no red carpet or proper flatware. But they did have unknown brand of IPA on tap that was good, it was late.

The food was great, but the service was very, very slow, especially considering the place was not even half full. I would give them another chance, however, maybe it was an off day?

Good place for breakfast with a full bar. Prices are good and service is always good. A usual place for me now:)

I finally got to try the well known mecca cafe and my experience there was great. good service, great food. my eggs were done exactly the way I like em and their portions are very generous for their prices. I am definitely going back on my next trip to Seattle.

Food is decent. Has that greasy feel and taste to it. Awesome after a night of drinking or a quick brunch. Biscuits and gravy were a little dry. Hash brown were tasty. Their mashed potatoes were delicious.

Dive bars that serve AH-mazing breakfast is where I want to be all the time! I saw the reviews and recommendations to come here on Yelp, so of course I took the word of my fellow Yelpers. Their standard two egg breakfast with toast obviously cooked on the single fryers is why I have a hard time losing weight. We came here three times during our visit in SEA, not because it was around the corner but because the prices were reasonable and as mentioned, the food is sooooooooooooo delicious. On our last visit, I had their Biscuits and Gravy. *drool* I would definitely fly back and go there for their Biscuits and Gravy. And of course, sit at the bar you cannot but help and get a morning refreshment. Their mimosas was yummy, not too strong but hit the spot. And their bartender is funny and on-point with his no BS attitude. Ooh I must find some mirror version of this place here in the Bay. I will never be Mecca, but it will be pretty darn close.

Lovely dive bar. Really great laid back vibe. Staff is always super great. The right blend of friendly, and good at judging whether your group wants to bullshit with their bartender or would rather be left alone. Drinks tend to be strong (maybe that helps that we're generally chatting with our waitstaff). Food is decent pub grub/greasy spoon breakfast items. The diner section is a bit brighter, although the whole place is dimly lit. But I really enjoy the even dive-y-er bar side. The padded bar stools (with chairbacks!) are actually comfortable, and there's a raised platform so your feet can reach the floor. Thank you! Great place to stop for a drink or quick bite before a show at SIFF or On the Boards. Service can be super fast, generally, if you tell them you're seeing a show. But it's also a great place just to grab grub and chat over drinks or diner coffee.

Excellent for post-drinking breakfast. I had most excellent blueberry pancakes and a bourbon and coke. Yummy, fast, and no bullshit.

Great beakfast. The bacon they serve is the best I ever had. Service is great. I ate breakfast here everyday while I was in Seattle. I didn't eat any other meals here but if they can make eggs and bacon taste so good - I imagine their lunches and dinners are also just as good.

This place closes in 23 minutes and I am literally writing this as we are pulling away from the parking space on Queen Anne Ave. Where do I start? Well first off, I would highly recommend not acknowledging restaurant patrons with "will someone just order". Number 2: Thanks for the complimentary nachos but, don't expect it to be a remedy to not placing our order in the queue. (Those nachos were btw a dropped order by previous customers who decided to walk out because they too, were waiting too long for their order, lucky us- we got their cold/dried up cheese nachos.) Number 3: If you don't put in our order AT ALL and forget about us, please don't think that 5 glasses of water is going to quench our thirst and feed us. Number 4: Be as so kind as to inform us that we are waiting for a non existent order so we can mosie our way over to another dining establishment and actually get fed. Because after all, that's the main reason why we went to your restaurant in the first place: to eat. Words of wisdom: DO NOT ORDER FROM THE PETITE GAL WITH BROWN HAIR. The wench of a server did not even have the audacity to tell us about our epic fail of an order. Last I checked she was getting reamed, at least someone is taking care of the situation.

What? No liver and onions? Haven't been here since you could smoke inside... I came in for food before Leonard Cohen. Feeling like an old fart, I decided to eat at the Mecca for old times' sake. I sat at the counter and had chili cheese fries. OMG! H E A V E N !!! The food was cheap and the service was fast. It was PACKED full. The coffee was really good and my waitress was ON IT! The only thing missing was liver and onions...they were exceptionally good in their day....sigh....

The ideal neighborhood diner and bar. Staff is great. Many, many regular and repeat customers. A few regulars can be highly entertaining. And the food is consistently good, filling a niche for really good basic diner and comfort food in Queen Anne. Mecca is a neighborhood institution and a great place for breakfast, dinner or just a quick drink on your way home.

A whole lot of vintage and a little bit of goth! I truly love Mecca cafe. Mmmmm. All of the breakfast plates are amazing. It does get busy in there, but the servers handle it with grace and kindness.

We went here for breakfast. The eggs and toast were awesome. The raspberry jam was yummy. I had one blueberry pancake (split an order with my daughter) and it was very very good. The service was excellent. Everyone loved the coffee. Only complaint would be I like my hash browns a little more crispy.

Decent food, horrible service. Ever tried placing an order for pickup? Don't bother. After they don't pick up the phone, you finally walk down and place the order in person. When you comment about having tried to call without answer, they casually explain that "they don't like to devote time to phone-in orders, as they aren't guaranteed to be picked up." You shrug it off, and walk back down to work to be productive while your order is prepared. Then, when you return to pick it up, you're told that it's all ready to go, so you stand there in the doorway for over 10 minutes while the server cashes out three tables, seats people who come in after you, and avoids eye contact, while not bringing your order which is ready... They just aren't ready to give it to you. On the plus side, the bacon is almost worth the wait, and the bar-side service is pretty spot-on.

Absolutely love this place! Neighborhood dive to the left / old school diner to the right. It seems to be run by some fairly responsible hipsters. Anyway, the breakfast was great - though it did take awhile. I'll be back to have some lunch and do some day-drinking soon.

The one restaurant we were actually able to try during our short stay in Seattle. We went up to Seattle a couple of weekends ago to see my best girlfriend graduate from Seattle U. This restaurant was not too far of a walk from the Key Arena. We sat down at the bar and the waiters were attentive at the beginning. Making sure we had something to drink right away. We came here for breakfast, it was pretty good. The 'browns were tasty. The bacon were thick cut and cooked with crispy outside. The only thing that I didn't enjoy was the sausage link, I can't describe it other than it didn't really have any taste and the scrambled eggs had a lot of butter in it. Once we had our food the waiters would continue to walk by and check in on us every once in a while. When I asked for hot water, the guy who brought it, saw that the cup was oddly chipped on the handle and quickly replaced my cup. It took a little more time for us to actually get our check. Once we got the check, they completed the transaction fairly quickly allowing us to get going for the graduation ceremony.

One of my favorite places in Seattle. We go here before the Opera, the Symphony or any Theater at the Pacific Rep. It's a little Divey, but if you don't like dives you aren't a friend of mine. Plus I go in here usually all dressed up for the opera and I fit in just fine with the mix. My husband loves the beers on tap and the large size of the standard whiskey shots. I like that they make a stiff V&T. Everything I have ever had there was fantastic. Chili fried are huge and a little spicey, their open faced turkey is my go to meal. Their corned beef hash is home made, all of it the corned beet, the hashbrowns the whole thing. The booths are cozy and dark and great for playing footsie if your feeling cute or looking at your phones if you're feeling married. We went in this week with our little one, and under 2 toddler, because our plane was going to be super late and we were already in seattle at rush hour on a friday, so why not get a drink and chill out, The waiter and the owner were so KIND and SWEET to my little girl that I fell more in love with this place. We got dinner for 2 with 3 drinks for under $40. Home made, fresh cooked food, funny, kid, charming service, in such a great location. Really what more can you ask for?

  • J J.

Dear Hipster Families: Please don't come here and clog up brunch seating, making me have to wait.. No, they don't serve fresh-squeezed anything. No free-range eggs or grass-fed beef either. I think you wanted Tolouse Petit.

Friend and I came here for brunch after a night out. If a breakfast place is packed at 11:30am on a Tuesday, then you know you're in the right place. $9 for 4 huge (like twice the size of a normal bacon strip) slices of bacon, two eggs, toast, and hash browns. It was amazing. They mixed up our orders a little, but I didn't care. Loved the staff as well. They were awesome.

I visit Seattle once or twice a year, and always have to go to Mecca for breakfast at least once each trip. Yes it's a dive, but it doesn't pretend to be anything else. Really good honest food served freshly prepared at reasonable prices. The bacon is thick and hearty. Two slices is all you need. The eggs are cooked perfectly and hash browns are great. My partner can't stay away from the corned beef hash. It is made in house and has lots of corned beef mixed with potatoes, peppers and onions. It is amazing! The waiters are just people, they take your order and keep your coffee cup filled. They do their job and usually do it well. They don't try to be the "bright sunny spot" in your morning, they make sure you get your food and drinks and they leave you alone. Let's face it, you come to a place like this for an old fashioned hearty breakfast and that's what you get!

The level of care from the help here has reached an all-time low...which is really saying something...it's like I'm secretly in a reality show called "most disinterested servers in the world". I know it's Seattle, but c'mon! At least pretend you want my money.

Though this place had a rep for being a greasy spoon, I feel like anywhere that does salmon for breakfast deserves the title of upgraded greasy spoon! Enjoyed a farewell brunch with a friend here and really enjoyed my Salmon Eggs Benedict! My friend had the Salmon and cream cheese omelet. Enjoyable. Hash browns, super greasy, crispy and delicious just as they should be! Best salmon of your life? Not if you are from the NW. Best greasy spoon salmon? Definitely. Greasy Spoon guilt factor: 0* *if you spend the rest if your day climbing those Seattle hills for fun!

The bacon gives it a three star nod. Poached eggs, terrible. It was some of the best bacon I've had, but whoever is cooking needs to take a little more care of poaching the eggs. Its a cooking basic and if you can't do that, you shouldn't be in a kitchen. Completely overcooked and if you do that with bennies then its game over! That was a let down. It was a late night experience, not overly packed but the service wasn't great and there is a lazy door man that checks ID's who is rude and empowered by refusing to serve people claiming intoxication. Even to people who clearly weren't drunk. This guy is turning away money just because, what a joke. I won't come back, due to the fact that it wasn't very clean, the food and service sucked. What a let down from a place that was rated better than it should be. Again, it holds the stars just because of the bacon, otherwise its a 2 star joint!

Just your average dive bar. I came here with a few friends after seeing a show down the street. Typical diner food with few gluten-free options. The chili was decent and the waitress was kind enough to bring me tortilla chips rather than saltines on the side.

Oh, Mecca. How can I find the words to describe you, in your ineffability? Well, that right there is my first mistake. The Mecca is nothing, if not effable. Everybody knows that. Came in here last night to set the all-too-appropriate pre-show tone for a double feature at the Noir City film fest. Our reuben, corned beef hash, and scrambled egg plates lined up shoulder to shoulder to shoulder on the bar at the dinnertime fairly well bespoke the kind of dining common to a great old private eye movie, or cops and robbers movie. So if you're coming in here to eat, bite down a little harder on that matchstick, gumshoe, belly up, and order a platter of grub. What you get is a crockery platter of short-order delight. For cheap, cheap, cheap. Three dinners (two of which were breakfasts for supper), four beers and some OJ, $43. Bargain. Sold American. But the other half of this place (and basically all of this place, most of the time, really) is a bar. Strong drinks, fair prices, nothing fancy, not much room to get anywhere in this long narrow shoebox. Bar. You can sit on a stool at the counter eating with your drink, or you can sit on the banquette on the other side of the wall for more of a Bukowski feel. The jukebox makes the place, in a lot of ways, and always, always has. I've come in here and mixed Coltrane with the Velvets with the Pixies in one set. Haven't put any money in or even looked at the listings since the 90s, but last night they went from Tom Waits to Wham in one easy step (alphabetically? wtf?). Couple songs later, When the Levee Breaks was up. Almost always almost all good tunes playing here. The funky architecture used to make this place a nasty cloud of cig smoke, but we have laws about this now. Now the funkiness just gets you when you walk back to the head and have to skirt the tumbledown staircase that leads to the attic office. The heads aren't the dirtiest in town, not even close. The whole place is pretty well-run, actually. But it's got enough quirks that it feels like it's own little world, still, after all these years.

I once went to Mecca before seeing Nirvana. No, twice. Also before seeing Ministry. And the Jesus Lizard. Yes, my children It's a religious place in which to get one's drink on. And breakfasty food of which one must partake to forestall nearly inevitable screaming hangover. Do you believe?

I was heading up north so I decided to stop by this place. They have a pretty good breakfast selection for a dive bar. I brought my friend and we sat at a booth. I made my own omelette. The eggs were still a little bit runny so I scraped the liquid goo off to the side. Other than that my hashbrowns were okay and so was my toast. Service was pretty good. The receipt said my server's name was Baberaham Lincoln. Yep, I got the Wayne's World reference.

I stopped in for drinks with a friend on a Friday night. Mecca is split by a wall right down the middle. When you walk in the door you can go to the left and hit up the bar or you can go to the right and sit at a table for food. We opted to sit at the bar since we weren't going to be ordering food. The bar side is long and narrow with just enough walking space between the seats and the wall to get to the bathrooms at the back. In fact, there was a very large, rather drunk guy making laps between the back of the bar and the front of the bar who just barely fit in the walkway. This place is a total dive, but like most dive bars it's well aware of that fact and is perfectly fine with it. There's a ton of flair hanging on the wall behind the bar that you can stare at and dissect for hours but at 11:30 on a Friday night the bar patrons are having a good time and are way more fun to watch. The bartender was super nice and didn't skimp on the liquor. When we left he sent us off with what seemed like a genuine appreciation that made me immediately want to come back again in the future. Other reviewers really like their food, and I look forward to coming back in to check that out sometime soon. Until then, I may just make this place my regular neighborhood bar.

Dear Mecca, When your website proclaims boldly that you serve $4 doubles during happy hour, kindly have the integrity to serve $4 doubles during happy hour. Do not tell me that when I ordered a double I actually ordered a quad and therefore need to pay $8. I am not sure on what planet a double is a quad, particularly when the drinks in question were weak as shit and didn't even qualify as regular doubles. When I point this out to you and actually pull up your own website, please have the courtesy to honor your flipping pricing. Or, you know, you could not do all that, and instead lie, overcharge, and generally be fraudulent. Definitely the best choice you could've made. Looking forward to never coming back and also informing everyone that you have crappy policies, Corinna

Stopped by here with a colleague for lunch on his recommendation. We split a Classic Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich. I was quite skeptical if this would be enough food but it was just right. This was definitely not a classic Philly cheesesteak, as its much better! The meat is real steak chunks and the cheese is real. In Philly, they use nasty cheesewiz for cheesesteaks. Not the case here! The sandwich came with peppers and onions. On the side, we had Mecca fries which are like grandma used to make - cut of real potatoes and fried in a skillet with oil (maybe deep fried here). Had a local pint of beer here from Maritime Pacific Brewing Company. The keg kicked and the bartender let me finish up the partially filled pint glass. When a new keg was tapped, I got a brand new pint - w00t! This is one of those hole in a wall places that screams Seattle and has a great atmosphere and homemade foot to boot. Recommended.

Old people are awesome. I know this is subjective since I happen to be an old person to people that are younger than me, just as an 8th grader is an old person to a 5th grader. People that are older than me, that may be a better term. I like talking to older people after they've had a little hooch. I like hearing about dial phones, nickel gas, BBQ recipes and rolling cow shit in toilet paper and smoking it out behind the barn. I actually do want to know why your son-in-law is in prison and how when you were young you could schtoop anything that moved. Old people are not the only people who get drunk at The Mecca, but I sure like the ones that do. As depressing as some dive bars can be, I can honestly say that whether it's busy or dead, I have never left The Mecca without having had some belly laughs, even if only from the coasters stuck to the wall with drunken drawings and rants scribbled across their backsides. The advantage to going when it's dark is that the flies are sleeping. I love you Mecca. I wouldn't marry you, but I'd totally do you.

Recently visited Seattle, and happened to be staying a block away at the MarQueen Hotel. My group wanted to eat and the Mecca Cafe was open until 2. I ordered the philly cheese-steak sandwich and i must say: it was so nice, i'd have it twice:]

    (5)
  • Tom C.

I can't explain why I didn't try the breakfast menu since I love breakfast joints that serve booze - but I just had a hankering for the philly cheese steak - Very good sandwich, plenty of it - I got the onion rings on the side, they were just ok - the onion wasn't crispy, it was more wet and runny - the only crunch was a tad bit from the batter. The little lady had some chicken sandwich which she enjoyed - but she didn't care for her champagne being served in a crappy rocks glass- but as I told her, hey, you get the same effect!!! The chefs seemed to yell in the back - not sure what that was about, but it seemed to entertain the servers. Service was ok - not sure our gal was altogether happy about working today, but not bad. I will be back to try the breakfast....and a beer.

I will not be a returning customer. This place is dirty. Mine and my boyfriends glasses had lipstick on them. Plus God knows what else in that cup. My spoon had old food still on it. The food was just horrible. I had mashed potatoes with my meal. They looked like vomit. My chicken fried steak was not cooked all the way. I stopped eating in fear of getting food poisoning. Everyone has their own experience here. Ours was a bad one. Along with a lesson learned.

Stopped in here for a quick beer while the rest of our group wanted to explore a the Chihuly museum (which we had already seen, being good Seattlites). Mecca is a very chill place- an old school diner/bar with just the right vibe. We sat down and had a Portage Bay Pilsner (one of the many beers on tap) and were left with plenty of space to just chill and chat. We were gently asked if we wanted more and when we didn't, it was equally easy to get our tab settled and out the door. I fully anticipate stopping by Mecca again when I'm in LQA.

  • Jen R.

Passing through town on a schedule, looking for some breakfast on a Sunday, we were drawn by the reviews of Toulouse Petit, but the 50 min. wait for a table was a big "no" for us so we moved on to Mecca. Ironically, we had a good chance of eating and getting out the door faster had we waited at Toulouse Petit instead. Loud music on the bar side, but football on the TV too so it evens out. The waiter/bartender was nice but overwhelmed. But something went very wrong with our order. Breakfast. At 11:30am on a Sunday, so not like they weren't already making it. I'm talking eggs, waffles, pancakes, bacon, sausage, toast, and hash browns. Nothing special. So why did it take almost an hour for ours to arrive? Busy kitchen? Maybe. But then why were the people who ordered eggs, waffles, pancakes, bacon, sausage, toast, and hash browns AFTER us getting served and even finishing their meals before ours arrived? Because they were friends of the waiter/bartender? Because some of them were. Or maybe our ticket got lost in the shuffle. But how could our ticket be lost when waiter/bartender kept checking on us and apologizing and telling us where we were in the order before rushing off to his next task? Don't worry, these are rhetorical questions. There isn't a good enough answer to satisfy me, anyway. Waiter/bartender seemed to know what the right thing to do was. I heard him tell a woman that we had waited for 40 minutes (at that point) for our food and he was going to comp us. I THOUGHT I heard her approve that - saying something like "ring up their beverages and then void the rest" which, even at that, seemed petty - charging us for the one decaf coffee at the table. But whatever. We lost a good chunk of our Sunday and we were starving, paying for a coffee wasn't worth mentioning. He even comes and TELLS us that our breakfasts are on the house and apologizes again for how long it was taking. But then he comes back after we're finally done eating and says "I got the boss to agree to knock 50% off the bill for the wait." Uhhh, free to 50%? I call bullshit. If it wasn't your fault, bartender/waiter dude, I apologize for the lack of tip. But since I heard FREE and ended up paying $15.22, I gotta figure our bill got padded because you was afeared we wouldn't tip you otherwise. So we didn't tip you. And we paid for something that wasn't worth the wait. At all.

It's a dive...plain and simple...and I'm fine with that. A nice little hole in the wall in the middle of Lower Queen Anne that is close to my work, so my girlfriend and I occasionally stop in for breakfast if I'm working a closing shift. They specialize in greasy breakfast and other assorted hangover foods. I recommend anything with bacon, as their slices are nice and thick and tasty. To enable your hangover some more, they have a full bar and a good selection of beers from the cheap Rainier/Oly to the micros and imports. It's small and the service kinda sucks at times (understaffed?), but the food is definitely worth the wait.

The hotel recommended this place for a late dinner and it was great, funky and down-home all in one. There's a full bar, yay!!! I had the chili, son had the chicken-fried steak. Food was very tasty, service was superb without being syrupy. Prices were very reasonable. I plan to eat here again before I leave. We went back for breakfast, waffle was delicious. The day servers could take a lesson from "The Princess of Darkness" on how to attend to customers.

Well, absolutely slow service. Waited for food for an hour. The server was rude. When we got there we sat in one seat then they had our whole party move for almost no reason other than it was convenient for our rude server. No thanks. Don't go here. When we finally got our food it was cold. We didn't tip because it was just that bad. I heard other customers complaining about their waits as well.

While waiting to check in at Mediterranean Inn, I had my first meal in Seattle here. It's down the block and had decent ratings on yelp. Upon arrival, it looked like a run-down diner. The waitress was friendly so I felt welcomed. I got pancakes, eggs, and bacon. The pancakes were hot and fluffy, better quality than Denny's or IHOP. The bacon was awesome, very crispy and thick. I do admit that it's not hard to make breakfast food. But this place was pretty solid. I really enjoyed my pancakes. Not sure if I'd recommend this place for tourists though, it's nothing special

Came in here not expecting too much. In all honesty we had just come from the Hispanic festival down by Seattle center and were kind of hoping for Mexican but after a disappointing selection ended up here. It was about as much as you could expect from a dennys type restaurant. We got the breakfast platter which came out with eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and toast and the chicken fried steak. The one thing that I really didn't like was that the bacon came out pretty much burned to a crisp. I know some people like their bacon crispy but this was ridiculous. It was an alright experience overall, but it is surrounded by a lot of good places so we will probably not be back here

I can't believe I have grown up on QA most of my life and have never set foot in this place. Waffles were amazing--THE END. I liked the divey feeling and the decor of stickers on the inside of the lamp fixtures. Waitstaff was friendly, saw some regulars (known by name) which is good--means people come back for a reason. Bf had the patty melt--hadn't had one in a few years and said it was his favorite. It appeared to have hit the spot. Snagged a bite or two--oh and there homemade potato salad was killer! I'll be back here for sure.

Uhhh, YUM! Between Capitol Hill and Queen Anne there are plenty of greasy spoons that serve breakfast all day. Oddly though, two friends from out of town managed to drag me all the way to the Mecca. Much like the REAL Mecca, it was worth the trip! I don't know if I'd consider it a religious experience but I sure loved my corned beef hash. Coffee was always topped off, water too, and the food was served up pretty quick. Loved the large portions, loved that they had rye bread, and laughed so hard listening to the chef in the back swear when he dropped something. Very cute place.

Look, I used to run with the wolves. Or more realistically, the vampires in this case I guess. We were young, wild, reckless. We went anywhere and everywhere and the Mecca was no exception. Back then, I would have given it 5 stars for awesomely strong drinks and a kick ass jukebox. Now, this is what separates me from the young folks. The last visit I made the mistake of ordering a well drink, normally, I'm a call girl -no not that kind- but this time, I just quickly said 'Vodka Collins' and when it arrived, I couldn't even drink it. Too strong? Yes. Rot-gut vodka? Yup. I gave it to a younger and more foolish friend who drank it up. I picked at my food (grilled cheese was good) and waited to go somewhere 'nicer' Wow.... I've changed, but the Mecca hasn't.

My friend and I were craving burgers and so we stopped by at Mecca Cafe. They had a great menu with some cheap prices, can't go wrong with that! We both ordered the deluxe burger and come to find out it's 2 for 1 on Tuesdays! SUPER DEAL!!! The burgers were good and they give you a ton of fries. We'll be back again. :)

My wife and I grabbed lunch here earlier today and again it seems yelp has steered us in a good direction. I try to scale my reviews by how they stack up to relatively similar locations so this matches up against other "old fashioned diners" serving American fare. Food: 4/5 I ordered a Rueben sandwich and fries while my wife and a French dip sandwich. The food was great, and while not the best I've had, excellent all the same. What really surprised me was when my soda came in a pint sized pitcher with a straw instead of a glass. No need for refills there. The menu seemed a bit lacking in variety for non-breakfast times, but it is a relatively small location. Service: 5/5 Our waitress was pleasant and prompt, though she seemed to be the only person covering all of the tables. The food came as ordered and fairly quick. Atmosphere: 4/5 The restaurant space is fairly small with about eight narrow booths (4 adults might fit, but feel crowded) and a long bar with stool seating. When we came in seating was available anywhere, but by the time we were leaving and the main lunch crowd filters in seating appeared to be at a premium. Pricing: 5/5 All together our lunch was about $10 / person not counting tip which is comparable to some fast food locations. For the price we certainly did not leave hungry. My wife preferred the Athina Grill next door we'd eaten at the night prior and while I liked it too, I would probably come back here first. Pitcher sodas = caffeine junkies loyalty. Give the place a try at your business!

Great neighborhood bar that also serves breakfast all day and has a rocking menu. We are lucky enough that this little joint is walking distance to our house. We went there twice in one week already!! The country gravy is awesome and everything we have had there so far has been great. They also have a good selection of local brews on tap. I love the motto of "alcoholics serving alcoholics" but it is not a place where a family couldn't also hang out. YUM

A fun place to wind up after a night out. Really good comfort food and the staff was nice. They can get pretty busy, but there is a reason for that and it's because it's a cool place to try. Definitely dive status but it's part of their charm : )

Our hotel recommended we try this place if we wanted a "greasy spoon" type brunch. That sounded like our kind of brunch, so we decided to give it a try. The place was cute, with your basic diner food. My husband got the standard eggs, bacon, hash browns and I got an omelet with tomatoes, onion and cream cheese and whole wheat toast. It was sooo good. I'm a vegetarian, but my husband is still raving about their bacon. And I love anywhere that will put cream cheese in an omelet. I loved their toast and coffee too. I judge the food by the little things. And they kept the coffee coming, another sign of a good diner. I also really liked the old comics/ads they had on the walls. We would definitely eat here again. It was the best brunch (and best value) we found in the neighborhood.

Although the food was good. A random woman cussed us out and she didn't get kicked out and still is being served drinks. Probably won't be coming back.

This place is a dive but they have great food, prompt service, and reasonable prices. I ordered The Pody, which comes with three slices of french toast and two eggs any style, and a side of bacon. The portions here are pretty hefty so make sure you come in with a big appetitie. I love their bacon - it's thick and crispy (just how I like it). I would definitely come here again next time I'm in the area.

Great dive bar with a terrific menu. I had a wild salmon omelet filled with capers, cream cheese, onions, and poached salmon. There Bloody Mary's are to die for. I don't think it's wise to go for breakfast and NOT HAVE ONE.

Awesome little greasy spoon diner/dive bar in the heart of lower Queen Anne. New to the neighborhood, and still getting settled, I had to swing in for a late night dinner after work. Surely enough, it hit the spot as well as I was hoping for, and then some! From what I understand, this place is essentially the sister cafe of the 5 Point in Belltown, but with some minor differences. Upon walking in, Mecca has more of a 50's diner vibe, and less of the "The diviest dive you've ever walked into" feel of the 5 Point. Nonetheless, Mecca is anything but pretentious. And that is definitely a-ok in my book. Much like it's sibling cafe, you can expect tasty, greasy diner food in large portions for cheap prices, as well as some cheap alcohol to wash it down with, if so desired. And what's not to love about that? From breakfast to late night shenanigans, Mecca has you covered!

Excellent service and decent food. Chili burger was amazing and good portions. Everything is homemade and has a good home type feel inside. Oh and the drinks come in little pitchers so you don't have to ask for a refill every 5 minutes.

The service is mediocre and the atmosphere screams "cock roaches laid eggs in your food." But don't be fooled by all that, the food is cheap and tastes decent. I like to come here when I'm stopped up, something about the greasy hash browns and oily fried eggs just gets my insides going again. The Mecca Cafe is way more effective than laxatives and leaves you feeling hollowed out, but in a good wholesome way. Think of the value! A plate grease slicked eggs is less then $10.00, a colonic can cost up to $300.00 Plus at Mecca cafe you don't have to experience that awkward moment when a stranger has a tube up your butt. Just remember to clear your afternoon before dining here.

One of my absolute favorite places: great "homemade" everything, bargain prices, and a genuinely friendly atmosphere. I'm a pretty large guy who loves to eat but I've never been able to finish an order of their hash and hash browns - it's huge! I've NEVER had a bad meal here. Don't think though that this is some schlocky, glutton-fest. This is love and hospitality at its best. One observation I've made that might offer a more complete understanding of this favorite: I'm amazed by the number of folks who come in to read and I think that's a great sign. It's okay to linger. This is like a cool second home with relatives you would have, given the opportunity to choose. You do have to expect things to be pretty busy on weekend mornings but you can get your breakfast any time (just no waffles after 2:00 pm).

About two minutes into my first Mecca experience, I had the feeling that my visit should have happened when the world was dark. That the perfect time to grab a booth would be about 3am. On this visit, however, I was there at noon. For lunch I decided to have a veggie burger and fries. Believe that goes for $7.79 here. The burger was tasty and I was pleased with the pickle spear on the side. The fries were a few times greasier than I would have liked and some of the thicker ones were undercooked. Still edible, though, and I sort of enjoyed the slight crunch of the undercooked ones. I was amused that my co-workers sodas came in huge glasses that looked like mini pitchers to me. The server was very nice and did a mighty fine job. Would I go again? Perhaps very late at night, if they're open and I'm in the area craving diner food. Would I go here for lunch again? I highly doubt it. Its great for the kind of spot it is, but... it's just not my style.

We stopped in here because my husband found this place online. Although the place has Cafe in its name, it's far from it. It's more like a diner or dive. My husband had a burger and seemed to enjoy it. I guess I wasn't feeling in a greasy mood, so I had chicken tenders. I am a connoisseur of chicken tenders and these have to be on the bottom of my list. They were way overdone and hard. It was difficult for me to eat them and of course I didn't finish. I had honey mustard on the side and the guy who served us didn't warn me that it was spicy. I had to swap it out for ranch.

Some great eats here. I had my boss in town from Texas and he always makes me pick places we have never been. This was a great place to come for breakfast before a big meeting. The only downfall we had was the service was awful, it wasnt busy yet we waited for ever. The omelet options are some of the best ive seen. Ill return again.

The perfect cheeseburger on the fly, and it was buy one get one free on 'fat Tuesday'. Fries are absolutely amazing. And the ice tea is served in a mini pitcher. The waitress sermed overwhelmed (and maybe a little bit of a tweaker), but nice enough. And the cook that served us called me beautiful...so big points for that! Overall good food for a good price and a little entertainment from the drunk guy talking extra loud .

Fantastic breakfast. If you are looking for your traditional eggs and bacon, this is the place for you. It's hard to make standard breakfast items stand out, but Mecca's breakfast is just so tasty!

The food here is so overpriced and the hashbrowns are a mockery to all things potatoes. The service sucks, AND they charge you a to-go fee. No one should ever spend nearly $12 for a simple breakfast that's poorly put together.

Thanks, Yelp! I was assigned to find a place for breakfast, so we came here based on what I read. This was an all around wholesome American breakfast. Not in the nutritional sense so much, but in the way you walk out feeling happy and fed and ready for the day. I had the waffle and it was super! My friends had eggs, those got good responses too. Our coffees were refilled frequently, and the food came out pretty quickly. Our waitress looked happy to be there and took our orders as soon as we were ready. My favorite part was the light above the table with funny stickers. We ate at a lot of places during our few days in Seattle, and this was one of my favorite meals of the trip.

Great little divy, hole-in-the-wall restaurant/cafe' in the Queen Anne area of Seattle. Been in business about 80 years. Friendly, tattooed and lip ringed, artsy type waitresses efficiently serving pretty good food at reasonable prices. One of my favorite breakfast places in the area. Go, See, EAT!!! (Tip yer waitress!!!)

Went to brunch this past weekend and the after seeing the sign which plainly stated seat yourself if you see the table cleared, I attempted to ask politely to the girl up front if it was alright to take the table in plain view that had been set with menus. Without even looking she reiterated the same exact thing I had just read on the sign. It was almost as if she was in the twilight zone or just drunk. After being seated by a waiter that actually didn't seem completely oblivious me and a friend ordered drinks and we were interested in first trying out their brunch. It was about as mediocre as possible. I decided to go with the Eggs Florentine and the hollandaise was so bland that it might as well have had nothing on top of it. At the end of the experience I was 19$ in the hole and left completely unsatisfied. If you're in this area and looking for brunch i'd suggest elsewhere.

when I was in college I applied for an internship at the EMP nearby and to my shock and awe, I got it. A few weeks later I moved into the Green tortoise also nearby and in scanning the area I found this place. The breakfast was awesome!! The major problem for me was that in Washington state it was still legal to smoke indoors so I would put on a heavy overcoat and go in there to order my waffles and try to keep the drunk next to me from ashing on my plate and when I got out I would launder the jacket and then I would only mostly smell from the smoke. The food was awesome but the place had brown walls that were literally dripping with nicotine. It was gross. Snap to 8 years later my wife and I are on a motorcycle trip and we are meeting an old friend of hers in Seattle for lunch. I'm following the GPS and thinking man this place looks familiar...... my wife's old friend picked THIS SPOT to have lunch with us! I hopped off the bike like a school girl, prancing in the street when I saw that it had been completely redone, top to bottom..... and the food is still awesome!! You've gotta check this place out

What can you say about the Mecca - a Seattle Institution; and the second closest bar to my house. I've had the best of times here and I've had the worst of times here. It's that kind of place In the rarefied air of dive bars, the Mecca reigns supreme. Everything you want; dark, dingy, a little creepy, with nothing you don't want: high prices and weak drinks. Everybody is welcome and everybody is friendly Probably had breakfast here (yummy BTW) 10 times before I realized there was a bar on the other side. One of the best Club Sandwiches known to mankind and I am an authority on Club Sandwiches Darn it - got my mouth watering. Off to the Mecca. Mecca me a drink!

Mecca Cafe is that classic divey diner that we all think about. Meccas has both booth and counter service and the walk way between the two is very tight. My girlfriend, her brother and I were there to take in a large breakfast before walking over to the Seattle Center for Washington Brewers Cask Fest. I ordered the corned beef hash which came with a choice of eggs and toast. It was a pile of the classic style corned beef and hash, seasoned well and pile high. Add the eggs and toast and there was no way to finish even for breakfast. Well worth the $9.99 for sure.

Awesome cinnamon roll! They're not shy with the mountain of mashed potatoes. The french dip was average with some somewhat stale bread. The chicken fried steak was "OK"... I lived in the South for 12 years, so I'm a tough critic on chicken fried steaks. The fried batter was excellent; however there was barely any substance to the meat. It was almost like eating chicken fried batter. Not a bad place for a greasy spoon breakfast...

I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak after taking a seat at the bar. The patrons look like a mix of ex-cons and punk rockers with a mixture of hard partiers. The coolest thing was the bartender named Mickey. He's kind of a trip, his stories send you off into outer space sometimes, but they're riveting. If he wasn't married...... The cheesesteak was gigantic. There's no way in Dog's Green Earth that I could imagine finishing one of these monsters. It was the most fattening thing I've had in years, and I liked it. I will NOT be eating them on a regular basis. The drinks here are very potent. This is the way it's supposed to be done. Why spend $50 hanging out at some hipster joint and still never really catch a buzz, when you can drop $30 on lunch and drinks and get all the way there. I really like the vibe here. I didn't see any of the normal "too cool for school" types that I'm finding all over the city in other places. It's dark enough to be a dive bar, but not disgusting like Lake City Way bars are. Good show. I swear that Mickey guy that works there is some sort of hypnotist or something. Fascinating.

Believe it or not, my man and I come here when we're *gasp* sober. I don't know, it's kind of nice to remember being in a place, not spinning, and not getting in a stupid drunk fight over what was REALLY meant when he said he wanted pancakes instead of waffles (ppsssshh, what? Pancakes over waffles?! Who are you?! I don't even KNOW you anymore) It's a greasy spoon with ultra friendly staff, and as I'm on my eggs benedict pilgrimmage I gotta say I had low expectations for the eggs benny here because it's just a basic diner and just expect everything to taste like fat - but they were almost right on the money with the perfect balance of zest and fatty yolk-ness! Win! I gotta say, well done Mecca! Way to represent my QA hood to all levels of drunk and sober alike!

This place was great. My bf and I went there because he was in the mood for corned beef hash and being an east coast guy he is particular about his hash. anyways he really liked it. Place: LQA, right across from the Spectator and its world-class karaoke, which is the only reason I've ever been there. Time: late at night, after you've already gotten a snootful; I honestly have no idea if this place even exists in broad daylight. People: the waitresses are the punk/goth equivalents of the grizzled dames who bring you coffee and relish trays at diners off of every state road in America, God bless 'em. The doormen can be a tad pushy. Things: a decent and solid selection of carb-heavy food, affordable and perfect for soaking up booze. Fun and fascinating gew-gaws on the wall, as befits such a venerable location. Handfuls of weirdos wandering in ad out at all times of the night. It's not going to win any awards for quality, unless a four-star rating on Yelp constitutes a quality award, but it's pretty much just what you want from a diner.

Food was good. Service on the other hand was another story. It was extremely slow. It took them about 5 minutes to greet us and the guy asked if we wanted any coffee to drink, we said no. He left and another waitress didn't come for another 10 minutes to take our order. We sat there and the food took 25 minutes to come out...they barely refilled our drinks and checked up on us...actually they didn't even do that. We had to go to the register to pay because they didn't give us our tab (other tables clearly had better service than we did). I felt like they discriminated and chose to serve us minorities like crap. I know the holidays was around the corner so I ended up giving a fairly good tip although my bf said no. I wouldn't come back to eat at this place even though the food was good. If you can't treat all your customers equally and fairly, there's no point in coming back. (This is coming from someone who knows how it feels like to work in the restaurant industry. Treat your minorities better.)

While I was in Seattle visiting my cousin who lives in Queen Anne we were busing it into Downtown and had to switch buses right across the street from here. We were cold, wet and hungry . She suggested just eating at Mecca. I hadn't looked this place up on Yelp and she hadn't been there before and it looked dodgy from the outside, so as we jaywalked across the street towards Mecca I was on the brink of having an anxiety attack from the apprehension until she pointed out the "People Love Us on Yelp" sticker! I knew we'd be in good hands so I confidently opened the door and strolled in! This place was just what we were looking for! We ordered some diner coffee, she ordered her favorite breakfast staple which happens to be eggs Benedict and I ordered Thanksgiving (turkey with mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce). Our waitress was efficient, the place wasn't packed so were able to have a leisurely meal and chit chat, the music was just right, the decor always provided me something to look at and I couldn't have asked for anything more. Mecca... I'm a fan! You're all good in my book and if I'm in the area again I'd come back to visit ya for sure!

Who wants a ginormous order of biscuits and gravy for $4.50? Hmmmm? I do I do! Post beer fest we hit up this joint to soak up some booze. Since it ~was~ post beer fest and I had just practically drank a loaf or two worth of bread I thought i'd just go with a small side. No need to stuff myself silly when I was already kind of full up on beverage, right? So out comes my plate with 2 GIANT biscuits split in half swimming in a sea of awesome sausage gravy. I didn't finish -- but it wasn't because I didn't want to. Sandwiches were ordered by the others -- and the nibbles I had of each were pleasing to my beer-addled palate. The Mecca is a nice lil' greasy spoon of a diner with leather benches & swivel chairs, checkered tiling, sassy waitresses who always refill your coffee, cheap prices, large portions, and a pretty sweet jukebox. Not a bad place for a pre or post meet-up noshing if you happen to be in the general area of the Seattle Center.

While satying at the Mediterranean Inn in December We were told by staff to try this place, First we came in for Breakfast, had the bisquits & gravy & OMG Yummy! Yes almost went somewhere else due to the line outside but decided to wait and give a try & sure glad we did! Sat at the bar instead of waiting for a table, bartender was awesome & hilarious & very attentive making sure our coffee & waters were always full. Came back for the lunch with some friends the next day and had a great time, got a table, service was great & the food well AWESOME! Our friend got the chicken fried steak & it looked so good we said we would be back to try it and we did! Came back for Dinner the next night and it was amazing! it was tender yet crispy, cooked perfectly and covered in gravy with potatos, It was a huge plate so I even had lunch for the next day, The chicken fried steak & eggs is great too comes with hashbrowns, In the course of the weekend we were there for UFC, we ate here 4 times and had something different every time and it was always hot & great! Service was always friendly & as attentive as they could be. Little tip: if there is a line to get a table then when you finally do don't expect to get speedy service & food, If you are on a schedule I suggest you go somewhere else but if you aren't remember good food takes time to cook! Even when the servers & bartenders were slammed they still aknowledged, smile & joked with us as they were flying past you & even though busy times = slow food, they always kept us up on the progress.

11am - the biscuits and gravy are delicious 3pm - the hot turkey sandwich is mouth-watering 2am - the biscuits and gravy with a side of hot turkey sandwich... last-meal-on-death-row worthy. Why is the food at this place so good? It should be terrible! Isn't this a dive-bar? C'mon, at least make it over-priced or something... But here you are, Mecca Cafe, just all fun and casual with your friendly staff and your fairly priced eats made from scratch by people that care about quality even after last call (when, let's be real, I'd be willing to eat a Seattle-dog out of a bum bag). It's no wonder this place has been around so long - it's just... I feel like I might be missing something, a giant hole in my life on Queen Anne Ave, if it weren't for dear Mecca. Like I'd need Mecca even if I didn't know what Mecca was.

We visited the Mecca Cafe our first day in Seattle. We'd just arrived, and were staying in the Queen Anne area, and as it was still morning, we'd asked someone at the front desk of the hotel if he could recommend a nice place to grab breakfast. He suggest the Mecca Cafe, so off we went. It is very small - the place itself is small, and the booths/tables are small too. We had to wait about 15 minutes for someone to leave in order to sit down. We ordered standard breakfast fare: eggs, pancakes, toast, hashbrowns, eggs benedict and I got the salmon eggs benedict. All of our food was mediocre at best. The hashbrowns were limp and tasteless - as if they were previously frozen and someone didn't cook them to completion before dishing them up on our place. The toast and pancake were fine, but it's pretty hard to screw that up unless you burn them. The eggs benedict were a real disappointment - the salmon also tasted as if it were canned, not fresh - they should've PUT that note in the menu. It was just very BLAH and not very good at all. Of all the places we ate at during our 4-5 days in Seattle, Mecca Cafe was, I think, hands-down the WORST of them.

Is this place trying to come across as one of those notorious restaurants where the waitstaff is rude and harsh and it's supposed to be entertaining? This place is hardly notorious enough to be able to pull that off. I had never even heard of this place and we just happened to wander in here after drinking at another bar. The cook/waiter/server guy was a total jerk. It wasn't even funny, no one at our table laughed. Recognizing his error he tried to say, "We might be thugs, but we aren't that bad." Or something really corny like that. Didn't make up for it. Yeah....if you are going to be a jerk and work in the service industry, you have to be funny or in some other way charismatic or charming. He was not. I don't know if this place is trying to be some sort of "punk rock" diner or something...but the grown ups would like to eat our food without your general unpleasantness fouling up the place, please. I've had better service at Waffle House. Plus, the food sucks. Looks like they have some cheap beer for happy hour. Won't be checking that out, but that might be a bright spot for the rest of you!

okay while not somewhere you go to get good food.... it is somewhere you go to get great hangover foods. While I was not hungover we went here and I ordered their eggs benny..... so first off THEY PUT ENOUGH LEMON IN IT!!! most places dont put as much lemon in it that is supposed to be in it..... but they do!!! oh gods I was in heaven. But then I had been up for like 14 hours at that point with out eating... lol. But the drinks were great and strong and the food... fairly decent if you think of it as hung over food. I will go back!!!! must have more

Very chill and mellow place. The art on the walls and the menu are entertaining. The food is really good and earns this place at least 4 stars. But the waitress/customer service was amazing!! They really went above and beyond. Best customer service that I've had in recent years.

The Mecca Café is by no means a place to which I'd make a pilgrimage, but it does the job when one craves comfort fare at a late hour. French fries after Bon Jovi's most recent show in Seattle were right on the money. But lunch on a sunny Sunday afternoon? I tried it out last weekend and found Mecca just a bit too dark and dreary for the bright fall day outside. Divey but not dingy, Mecca is a place to hole up when outside isn't fit for consumption. During my most recent visit, our server was prompt and plucky. I ordered a Sprite/7-Up/what have you in the lemon-lime soda genre and was rewarded with a small pitcher of pop. Literally, a small pitcher with a handle and spout and everything. I started my meal with a cup of smoky tomato soup, which the server explained was made not with smoked tomatoes but with smoky cheese. Pretty tasty! My hamburger steak was...a hamburger steak. No complaints, but it's not like we're talking filet mignon. I was disappointed, however, by the utterly tasteless mashed potatoes. Cream! Salt! Please! The frozen re-heated vegetables were bland and forgettable but what I expected. Make it Mecca after your late-night exit from Key Arena!

Life is too precious to go inside this establishment. Textbook fail-at-life candidates eating and serving the worst of food and drink. They hate you as customers, and you should hate them as well. I'm over this place. If people want to go here and I'm with them, I go somewhere else without them.

For all walks of life there is Mecca. An all around place to enjoy your friends, drinks, food, Jukebox and yes there is even a Television for all the TV viewing folks. It can get loud on the weekends but never loud were you can't have a conversation. For all the people who like dim lighting when your having that hangover breakfast. Mecca does this right!

While visiting Seattle we ended up eating breakfast here 3 mornings in a row. In those three days I tried the pancakes, bacon and eggs, waffles and biscuits and gravy. Everything was very tasty. The waffles were a bit dense and heavy for my liking though. The freezer jam they put out on the table is a nice change from regular grape jelly you find at most places. Their coffee was very tasty. I was happy to find this little place on the same block as the hotel we were staying at.

I love this place. Cheap drinks, cheap food and great staff. I've never had a problem here and the only people I've ever seen having a problem walked through the front door belligerant, drunk or lost. All the food tastes good and I've never dropped my jaw when the bill arrives. Also, there's a jukebox with an awesome selection of tunes.

What a great find! We stopped in on a one-day visit and ordered a few beers and fries at the bar. We returned in the morning for breakfast. I have The Deckhand (3 xtra large eggs, sausage, bacon, hashbrowns and two hotcakes). The sunny-side up eggs were perfectly done. All told, three of us had a breakfast that kept us fed until dinner for $40. Service was friendly and fast. The went beyond traditional waitstaff friendly.

This is my go to place for greasy deliciousness. It's cheap, yummy, and close to home. They have all the American Diner staples and a good breakfast. I always get the French dip or the Philly cheese steak. Don't go here expecting a fancy place, as I noticed some reviewers seemed to think it might be, it's just not that way and that's a good thing. The bartender & waiters are nice and its a good place for late night food.

For those of you who enjoy being verbally crapped on by your bartender, you have found your "mecca". On the other hand the drinks are pretty good. I would say that I would like to come back someday and try the food, but ehhh I don't think its worth possibly having another bad experience. There are breakfast places and bars with nicer folks in this city.

This was a great breakfast joint, loaded with Seattle culture, and fascinating waitstaff! It was a little slow the morning we went, so we had a great chat with one of the long-timers. The walls are loaded with fascinating "artifacts": photos, ticket stubs, etc from Seattle. My hash browns and eggs were delicious and hot, and the coffee was plentiful. Even if you're not nursing a hangover (I wasn't) this is a great breakfast joint.

You know, I'm always lamenting the fact there aren't more diners in this town and then when I go to a bona fide diner, which Mecca definitely is, I'm not that impressed with it. The problem lies with the quality of the food. I love the long counter that extends from the cash register across from the entrance all the way back to t kitchen and I love the booths on the opposite wall. I like the surly, but attentive service. I don't, however, enjoy the borderline Denny's quality food. I don't know maybe it's what I ordered: chicken fried steak that was a pre-formed frozen patty. Portions were big, being that there were a lot of hash browns, but it was simply not that impressive. I'm more than willing to give them another chance to prove me wrong. I have a friend who insists that they have the best cheesesteak that she's ever had. But for now, they're a 3 star.

Yum! Went to this place for the first time recently and really enjoyed it. I had a tuna sandwich and potato salad and it was fabulous! The atmosphere is pretty sweet as well and boy can they make a stiff drink. Prices are decent, drinks are cheap and the service is quick. It's a lot bigger once you actually get inside the place and there are 2 sides to the place, much like the 5 Point, but this place is a bit cleaner/less trashy than the 5 Point. All in all, good experience

Love this place! Great greasy spoon diner food and strong drinks. I had Laura as a server who was attentive and quick. Overall awesome!

The Mecca Cafe is sort of like a diner...but not quite. Went there for breakfast and ....YUM! I like the dockhand breakfast (~$11), very very filling! The portions are not overwhelming but not inadequate. Just right, as Goldy Locks would say. Whatever you choose, definitely get the hash browns! They are crisp and an all around pleaser.

No, the Mecca doesn't deserve 5 stars but I would never give it anything less. Why, because it's my favorite dive bar. And why is it my favorite dive bar. 1. No hipsters 2. The bartenders are nice and they seem to always recognize me even though I am far from a regular. 3. For a while they had a painting on the wall of two voluptuous vixens, one was doing coke off the stomach of the other. 4. cheap stiff drinks 5. The music although sometimes a bit to metal is usually good and I like their jukebox There you have it, a reason for every star.

As dive bars go, This is one of the best I've been to in Seattle. I'm still new to the area (originally from San Diego) but this place is great. Salty bartenders, cheap drinks and the occasional Rolling Stones song that comes on the jukebox. I have yet to try the cafe, which is directly adjacent to the bar, but the food I saw come out of the kitchen looks greasy and delicious.

This is a review of breakfast, I cannot speak to boozing here. Consistently awful food. friends corned beef was worst I'd ever had, I think they dumped it right from a can onto a plate. Biscuits/gravy unremarkable. Worst coffee I've ever had, no exaggeration. It said Cafe Vida on the container, but it tasted like it had been sitting out for a week then microwaved. Or a rat died in the brewing machine. Something was wrong - I hope. If anyone wants Winco brand canned, microwaved corn beef hash and butt-coffee for $14, I'll do it for $12 in my kitchen. And I have free parking. Pleasant atmosphere.

Good, greasy diner style cafe. Would be perfect cure for a hangover. This is the kind of place where you order breakfast for less than $10 bucks and and they serve you enough food to feed a small family. It's been around since 1929 as the sign says, and it feels like it hasn't changed all that much since then. Checkered floors, and leather booths, and a long counter stretching the length of the tiny restaurant. Local band stickers line the insides of the dome lights that hang low over each table. The waitress was very attentive and polite, but she had a certain 'seasoned charm' about her that would make a man think twice about pissing her off in her diner. I built my own omlette (hot links, smoked cheddar, onions) and it was glorious. They grilled the hotlinks and the onions before folding them between the eggs and melting the cheese to tie it all together. Huge win with this order! Girlfriend had the corned beef hash. They do make their own corned beef in house, and it was probably the second best I've ever tasted. (The best being served up at Black Bear Diners) I would easily go out of my way to return to this Seattle institution. NOTE: Their booths can fit up to four. We had five in our party, so we had to split up between two booths. Not a huge deal, but this place is definitely not large group friendly.

Where to begin...this place just rocks!! The breakfasts, the dinners, the attached bar. Not to sound to0 alcoholic but we were on vacation :) Our first dinner in town was @ Mecca and oh my, love thy name is BLT slider. The bacon at this place is apparently award winning. I really didn't listen to much of that story. I heard "bacon from Montana" thrown in but I was too busy planning on how I was going to fit bacon into every meal. The pancakes with blueberries...I forgot that berries grow wild everywhere in Washington state so you get real big fresh blueberries in your pancakes. We always sit at the counter, which I normally do not like but the staff was pretty interesting so it was a must for me. I will dream about Mecca's food. We also met a lot of local regulars so we got good insight on what to see and do. Totally worthy of five stars.

Ok...Just moved to Queen Anne and wanted to check out the local bars...I love a good dive bar and from reading the Yelp reviews went to the Mecca. Hmmm...first off thank God you guys warned me about the bartenders attitude because I probably would have walked out if I had not been prepared ... alas I did win him over sticking to the rule "you get more bees with honey than vinegar" also never making eye contact and keeping my head lowered... your basic pack mentality maneuver. The drinks were great...you can't beat getting a double for single price! I had a order of their french fries which were really tasty and come served with ranch. I did venture back about a month later and had a much friendlier experience.

In the dictionary, under the word "dive". . . Do they pay that slut to sit at the bar slopping makeup over her wrinkles until her roadie boyfriend comes back and they can get busy dry humping on the bar stool? I mean, really. The biscuit was so hard that, if you tapped it with your knife, it sounded like you were hitting a coconut. My husband tried to bite into it, and managed to leave tooth marks, but actual eating of the thing was simple impossibility. So the guy behind the counter goes, "It'll be just fine if we steam in for a minute." I mean, really. Got to admit, we were fresh off the plane (and rental car agency, and hotel desk, etc.) and half starved when we walked into this place, and not in the best mood. But the husband needed comfort food. I asked the server if there was a vegetarian option on the soup or chili. No, she replied. Okay then, did they have a salad? Do you mean a vegetarian salad? she asked. Ka-ching! I mean, really.

This is a place best for late night, after cocktails, when your next stop is home, though it is plenty good enough to show up stone sober. Great food and appropriate "greasy spoon" ambiance. Don't take this wrong, this is a great place to eat, but you have to compare it to the appropriate genre. The staff is friendly. The clientele is interesting. I liken it to the cafe/bar scene in the original Star Wars...a lot o' freaks! I LOVE THIS PLACE!!

7:00am. Queen Anne. Breakfast. Corn Beef Hash & Great Service. It is easily the best hash I have had in Seattle. Hands down. Now I know why they call it Mecca.....

A classic. Been stopping in more or less frequently over the decades (ach!) I've been in Seattle. Always good for drinks and color. Food is more than serviceable - just don't expect Chef Ramsey. Never got attitude when I was a punk and don't get it now that I'm a yuppie. Just be cool.

Went here for a quick dinner before a movie. Fast service, enough time in 1 hour for 2 beers and our meals. Fries were GREAT. The waiter told us they cut their potatoes in-house and it was obvious. Very potatoey and fried just right. Not too greasy and not heavily salted (we added some salt which I never do). The bacon on my date's BLT was really delicious and they weren't skimpy with it either. It was perfectly crispy. My burger/patty melt type sandwich was tasty too. Plus they have miller high life for $1.50 during happy hour. Can't argue with that. Our waiter was funny too.

Total dive bar. Ordered a Jack and Coke and it was rocket fuel. Must've been a quarter fifth in the drink (came in a tall glass). Went again- this time on a Sunday morning Uber hungover. Got the meatloaf with a side of mash and gravy. Felt top notch about an hour later. This place is cheap, food is good and the drinks are solid.

The Mecca, in my opinion, has the best comfort food around! I love their open face roast beef sandwich with gravy, the chicken friend steak is also one of the best I've had, and their waffles and thick cut bacon are one of my favorite breakfasts. I recently tried the chicken salad, which was great! Its loud there, and the service is often pretty cranky, but is sometimes particularly attentive too. Hit and miss on the service for sure but always a hit on the food. The Mecca is definitely an old-school favorite.

Gotta love the greasy spoon and dive bar dinner combo. Service is what you'd expect for such a place too. If you are looking for the Ritz, then you won't like this place. If you like classic American greasy spoon dinner service you love it. And you have to admire the owner who likes to make fun of her dead husband Dick. My favorite is the Reuben followed by the Fish'N'Chips on the dinner menu and the Omelets and Classic Waffles on the breakfast menu. You do not leave this place hunger and those means are 1000+ calorie meals. The only think I don't like is the coffee... it is that hard edge caffeinated stuff which is perfect for this place, just not in my taste.
