This is one of the two Rutland eateries we return to over and over. (The other is Back Home Again.) Tokyo House's menu is vegan-friendly. Omnivores seem happy with the selection, too. The staff recognizes us and is very friendly. The service is almost always good. The food tastes fresh and prepared with care. Personal veg favorites: Appetizers: Avocado Salad Seaweed Salad Inari Sushi Harumaki Entees: Tofu Teriyaki Vegetable Yaki Udon (remember to say, "no fish cake") Tempura Udon (I request vegetables only) Vegetable Tempura

Here's the thing about this mediocre in every possible way sushi joint: it's the bestonly sushi around for hours in any direction. But scarcity doesn't turn mediocrity into greatness. Loses one star (otherwise, 3) for not serving beer (BYO OK). Sushi without beer? Sacrilege!

They are extremely rude and the sushi is mediocre at best. Call before you go sometimes they decide to close mid day without any warning. I will not be back.

I would say don't go here if you have a movie, play or any thing else pressing to get to right after dinner. The wait for your food is often very long especially on busy nights. The food is good. I love their sushi. I'd really recommend the rainbow or Phoenix rolls. The service often leaves something to be desired. The servers do not speak especially good English. I've gone there and did not receive things I ordered. I've also gotten hot tea and want offered one refill the whole meal. I'd describe the whole thing as being so/so

My boyfriend and I ordered the dragon roll and the dynamite roll. Since we only ordered sushi we can't speak about the rest of the menu but it was delicious and satisfied our craving for sushi.

Great sushi! We got takeout from here and were very pleased by the quality of the ingredients and preparation. The only disappointment is that they do not serve sake if you dine in the restaurant.

Their chicken fried rice is the best... this is all I have ever eaten from here but it beats chicken fried rice from anywhere. This coming from a Brazilian world traveler.

Ok, maybe the service is how should I say...indifferent at times, but the food is excellent especially for this area. Like most sushi places in Vermont the place is run by Chinese and you see the Chinese restaurant mentality (including the language barrier issues and thus the seemingly indifferent service) when you get a bento box or similar fare. But I go for the sushi and I can tell you it may not (and does not) compare to authentic sushi, but for Rutland, it's damn good. You won't be disappointed.

When I moved to Vermont, one of the things I missed the most was sushi. So I was thrilled when this place opened. It is good stuff. My favorite is the shrimp tempura roll, the sauce is amazing. Plus the appetizers are good, and love the seaweed salad.

this little restaurant is located in the lovely downtown area of rutland near merchants row (i know. you didn't Know there was a lovely area. but there is i tell you, just venture off of rte's 7 and 4...). the interior is nice and bright and cheerfully decorated. the food including the sushi and the japanese fare is quite tasty. the wasabi is fresh and spicy. the only problem is, the service is quite poor. i have been here a number of times and have had to wait for extremely long periods to get my food. while the server was standing there simply gazing off into the distance. i was literally wiggling off the seat trying to point out that i could see my sushi up on the counter and ready. i was also so hungry that i was considering eating the spices in the containers on our table. finally she started to talk to a family that came in and still ignored my food. i couldn't take it any longer and went up to the man that had prepared it and he said that it Was my sushi. he had to come around and deliver it to me. and then go in back for my pot stickers. (ok, that part may not have happened but i was so hungry that i might have been having hallucinations.) still, the food quality would deserve a 4 star rating (for the area, there is no other gig in town or whatever that saying is, so i guess you don't have much choice) and i will most definitely be at least getting take-out from here again.

Went here on a weeknight sometime between 12/29/08 and 1/2/09. Waitresses and sushi chefs were clearly not Japanese (in case you were looking for authentic prep and taste). Food was clearly Americanized in terms of palate, but that's the norm in most sushi places. Had a negimaki and an assortment of sushi. Cost for 2 of us, $50, which included tip. With this price, I can't really complain.
