Great chicken ! Dont expect anything fancy.. But a great place to get lunch. The chicken is always juicy and the sides are great. If you are looking for a great price.. Im always full and usually end up taking food home. AWESOME !!

Your typical Peruvian chicken restaurant, but a much cleaner facility than most.

Tasty, cheap, and yucca. Kinda love this place.

Awesome chicken, great deal, fried plantains, and sweet potato fries. Seriously, there's not much more I can say about it, it's heaven on a plate. I can buy a whole chicken with two large sides and feed myself for a week all for less than $20. I haven't eaten in yet, i mostly order to go, but the dining and waiting areas are very nice with modern clean decor. The staff is always friendly and the kitchen (which is in view) always looks clean.

Of all the Peruvian chicken places in the whole DMV, this is our favorite. Comfort food like no other. Great tasting juicy chicken, and sometimes they'll offer you a discount on 1/2 chicken if you go for all dark meat. The platanos and yucca are consistently good; I also like the sweet potato fries. Another reviewer commented that there was only chicken on the menu and that this was like a McDonalds (order at the counter, receive a tray to take to your table); well, yes it is. That's the point - it's a Peruvian chicken place. And it's great at being that.

A great Pollo joint in Reston by the Home Depot. I like that you can order the chicken with or without sides, dark or white meat. My favorite is the 1/4 chicken with black beans and rice. if I'm filling extravagant, I'll order the Alfajor ,shortbread cookies filled with dulce de leche (a creamy caramel) and topped with powdered sugar, for desert. This is casual dining.

Three stars for delicious flavor-injected rotisserie chicken so succulent it falls off the bone in a plastic-seat melamine table cafeteria environment. I recommend getting the half (or whole!) chicken meal deal to go. You can even use the 10% off coupon on your yelp ap when you check in. The plantains are by far the best side dish, IMO.

Lured in by the delicious smell of roasting chickens while in the Home Depot parking lot I came across this place and took a gamble. Boy was I happily surprised with my new find! This Peruvian joint really hits the spot. They have a great selection of sides to go with your chicken and everything I've had tastes wonderful. The first time I came here it was super crowded and took a lot of patience while waiting for my carryout. The next time it was near closing and much quicker. The manager took my order directly and was very accommodating about changing a few things up with the order as well which I appreciated.

When I walked by Pollo Peru the first time, I didn't think it would become one of my favorite take out places. It looks outdated and just a bit off. After a couple of times I decided to go in, because the smell of roasted chicken was so good! The place is actually really clean and ok-looking on the inside. And I'm glad I did, their chicken is delicious! The sides are pretty big too and you can add 2 for maybe 2 more bucks. Pretty good deal. It might just be the best chicken I've had in years. I'm still trying to discover their secret spice mix...

I picked an order today for my family of 9. 3 whole chickens 6 sides 3 sides of Yuca 1 side of white rice 1 side of black beans 1 side of fried bananas. The food was amazing.. Finger licking. The best part is that they have an option to order online. The whole family was satisfied, The only thing I would ask for is more yellow and green sauce. It's very addicting.. But they charge for extra sauce. Would be nice if your paying for 3 whole chicken they would add more sauces.. Overall the place was very good.

Inconsistency is the middle name of this place. Sometimes the birds are great and sometimes they taste they they've been under the heat lamps for way too long. Service is usually somewhat snappy, but it can get a little backed up around lunch time. The thing that really bothers me is that they nickel and dime you on extra sauces because they only give you half as much as most people use (or us anyway). And they only fill them half way! A number of other restaurants actually give you as much sauce as you want. Also, their fried yuca are processed mushy bits rather than actual good yuca.

  • Antonio P.

The food is not bad, not great either. The plantains are probably the best of the three items I got (chicken and yucca) compared to the status quo. However, this particular location charged me a full two dollars more than their menu price for a whole chicken. When I asked why that was I got a blank look and a half-answer suggesting it was "the sides", which I interpret to mean that my choice of sides had an up-charge. This was not explicit on the receipt (see photos) and considering I chose two of the most basic side dishes, I am inclined to believe they simply engage in predatory pricing techniques. Since I was in a hurry I let it go, with the intent of emailing my question and a picture of the receipt (see photos) to the company today, but they don't have any contact info on their website. Thankfully we have Yelp!

Leaving the Home Depot, we spotted Pollo Peru and immediately starting craving lunch. Walking in, the space is open and very clean. The staff behind the counters are friendly and helpful. We each opted for the 1/4 dark meat chicken, black beans, and fried yuca. The chicken was juicy and flavorful and the black beans were out of this world! So well seasoned and balanced, it was delicious and hit the spot. I wish I had ordered the plantains, but I didn't even see them on the menu until after the fact. The fried yuca was good, I just think next time I'll try another side. I would definitely come back here, the meals are very very reasonable and well-priced. I recommended this to my family as well.

Chicken is delicious and so are the black beans. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because they charge you extra for yellow and green sauce :/

Never had Peruvian food before but went for the first time with my co-worker and I was not disappointed. Great seasoning on there chicken and fulfilling side orders.

Gave this place a try and glad I did. Their chicken is great with a crispy skin. Sometimes it can be a little salty for me but generally, it's fine. Their yucca is great and their green sauce is a little different than most places with great flavor and some texture to it.

3.5 stars: Not the best Peruvian chicken I've had but a good lunch option in the area. The menu is simple and small. I got the 1/4 chicken (dark meat of course!) which comes with two sides. I opted for the sweet potato fries (not as crispy as I like mine) and salad (because I thought regular fries or yucca might be overkill). My chicken was moist and I loved the skin. It also comes with two sauces, both of which enhance the chicken. Some of my coworkers did mention their chicken being dry though, so stick with the dark meat. Quick and friendly service, clean restaurant, and great prices!

  • M W.

Their plantains taste so good! I usually get a regular meal with plantains.

    (4)
  • Tom K.

Just not a lot of good pollo options in this Reston so I've ended up eating here a handful of times. The yucca and coleslaw are good, but the chicken is ok at best and the fries are always soggy.

    (3)
  • Mayra Q.

The chicken was good but the sides were too small, no like a family size. The service was good and the place was clean.

    (4)
  • J S.

$6 for a flavorful quarter chicken + side of plantains. Belly full, me happy.

    (4)
  • Julie H.

Pollo Peru got really flavorful juicy chicken and I love the yuca! Dipping sauces are pretty good, too. Gotta try their alfajor shortbread cookies filled with dulce de leche!! So yummy!!

  • Michael L.

We wouldn't know how the food is because we never got it. We asked if we could bring our small puppy in, and they said 'yes'. After spending about 5 mins deciding what we wanted, the exact same person that said we could bring the puppy in then told us we could no longer have the dog in the restaurant. Waste of time.

3.5 stars It's not unusual to come across cheap Peruvian chicken joints in the Northern Virginia area, but Pollo Peru has a few other things going for it: The restaurant is spacious and clean, the people are friendly, they take credit card, and it's right down the street from me in Reston! From outside in the hellish parking lot that also hosts Home Depot patrons, the smell of charcoal lures you into the restaurant. Sadly, the smoke did not penetrate into the meat of the 1/2 chicken I ordered, nor was the skin very crisp; however the seasoning was flavorful and the chicken was moist throughout. I had fries and white rice with my chicken. The fries are thick and mushy and the rice is slightly salty but actually pretty good. The white sauce is pretty much just mayonnaise while the green sauce is very thick and heavy with with the taste and heat of jalapeno. Overall it's not as delicious as El Pollo Rico where the seasoning is prevalent in every bite and the meat falls easily off the bone, but it's much better than the experience I've had at Super Pollo where the chicken is devoid of any flavor. I shall be back!

  • Justin C.

Pollo Peru is my favorite chicken spot in the area. They have a great menu with a wide variety of different side options to choose from. I was disheartened when they took the yucca off the menu and made it a specialty item. But that alone hasn't and won't stop me from frequenting the establishment. The prices here are fantastic, delicious flavor, and overall pretty consistent each time I have been. My favorite side are the sweet potato fries! If you get a chance and are craving some chicken, definitely check out Pollo Peru. Ask for extra green sauce!!! =D

If you're looking for Peruvian chicken near Reston Town Center, this is the place. Chicken, yuca, and salad were tasty. My boyfriend got the Pollo Peru melt sandwich and loved it.

  • Bonnie N.

Great spot close to home if I don't feel like making the hike to Arlington. Chicken is most flavorful of all options in Reston (Boston Market, old Chicken Out, grocery stores) and the sides are great! Rice is flavorful and like to splurge on fried yucca (a little dry) and plantains (a hit). And it's a good deal compared to the other options on the area :)

  • J Y.

food is good. BUT - They just started decreasing portion size. some times I've gotten carry out, and after I open the continuer, I notice they've given me less than 6 fries, with barley 4 spoon-full of rice. (this has happened several times, I've also complained about it...nothing was done). I highly suggest you look inside your carry-out continuer before leaving. make sure they didn't short change you on the food portion. I don't think I'm gonna be coming back anymore. Going to check out King Pollo in Herndon. I heard better stuff about the portion and over-all quality.

Wonderfully seasoned chicken that's been consistently delicious and moist each of the three times I've visited this location. Limited menu but what they do they do very well. The plantains were very sweet and tasty. The fried yucca I'm normally not a fan of but love it at this place. And those little sauces are to die for. Love the place.

Visited this place for lunch for the first time today, after smelling it wafting around the Home Depot parking lot on errands. I had never been to a Peruvian joint before, but OMGOSH, delicious stuff. I loved the plantains. There is a Cuban restaurant where I'm from that does a similar preparation and I was so pleased to find a similar dish here. The sandwich was fine, the sauces were delicious, price seemed very reasonable for the quality and amount of food I received. Will most definitely go back. Nice staff, clean dining area, very short wait.

This has become a staple food in our household. Quick & tasty for accurate carry out or eat in a clean and spacious dining room. The staff is always fast and helpful. The whole chicken with two large sides is a bargain. I love the black beans, too!

I was staying at the reston town center, and was craving some rotisserie chicken. I was recommended to visit guapos however this place was far from me. I decided to walk and found pollo peru which was about a 20 minute walk from reston town center to their location. The chicken was great, the chicken is cooked with barbecue coals. The green sauce was good. The chicken was juicy with good tasty skin. The servers were great, they hooked me up with more sauce. Just ask. I will definitely return to this place when visiting reston again.

The best chicken I've had at a restaurant. So flavorful and juicy. The yucca fries are delicious and the dipping sauces are just as great. The desserts like flan and rice pudding are good. I would definitely come again.

I have tried a few peruvian chicken places in the area, this one is a winner. They get even the small details right such as the rice. If you are American, you probably don't "get" rice. Especially white rice..for me being raised in a latino family, white rice is for EVERY meal. And latin american white rice tastes way different than indian jasmine rice or the (usually horribly tasteless) white rice you get in Americanized chinese food. Lightly salted, hints of garlic, moist, this stuff is amazing. The chicken is very good, lightly crispy skin. They have an amazing spicey sauce that is of a unique recipe I have not had anywhere else. A previous review mentioned the fries suck..well here is a tip: never order regular fries at a latin restaurant. get the yucca fries! Those were excellent and come with a delicious mayo-like white sauce for dipping. I picked my chicken clean to the bone, which I rarely do since some bits sometimes seem yucky..but I basically wanted to cover the plate it came on in their spicy sauce and eat that too. I will be back! Very happy to find a good peruvian chicken place near me. Interior is very clean, service good, lots of tables to sit in. Give it a shot! Try the dark meat ... in my experience dark meat is usually tastier with this type of chicken preparation.

Not bad but very slow service for food already cooked. You can end up waiting 15 min just for 1 to go order. Chicken is good but yuca is often dry and tiny portion.

Amazing Peruvian chicken. Food is just awesome. But don't expect ambiance - this is a very bare restaurant. Get take out and enjoy it at home!

I randomly suggested to go here for lunch one Saturday. I figured it'd be small, dirty and cheap but I was pleasantly surprised. Clean restaurant and bathroom. Open area to sit and eat in. My husband and I split a 1/2 chicken with fried yucca and black beans, it was plenty of food for a really cheap price, $8.59. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, good cumin rub on it. The yucca fries were a bit dry and crunchy but way better than a french fry. The black beans looked plain (no bits of onion or garlic that I could see) but great flavor! The mild yellow sauce tasted a bit mayo-y. The green sauce had good heat. If you like a lot of sauce, the amount they give you is very little and you do have to pay extra for more sauce. Reminded me of Guapos but Pollo Peru has a smaller menu. I would go back again.

Usually a solid spot to go to - recently they have been handing me the chicken a little red on the inside despite asking for white meat- not cool. As a former salmonella poisoning victim, I can tell you that anything red in chicken is not to be played with at all.

Just the smell alone makes you starving. The staff is extreme nice and even the customers seem friendly. The food gives no room for complaint!.

  • Oso C.

Chicken is ok. However, the increases in price kill this place. $1.00 addition if you order plantains, yucca and/or sweet potato fries... EACH!! I cant support a place that drastically increases prices like that.

    (1)
  • Kelly K.

Serving freshly cooked rotisserie chicken. The fried plantains and rice that were sides were good. The only thing is I wish their green sauce was vinegar based. It tastes like it has mayo in. Quick service. Ordered the flan for dessert and it was fresh. They have three rotisseries here! Located in the shopping center where the Home Depot is. Prices are reasonable.

Peruvian chicken has become a bit of a dining fad over the last five years or so - and my experience has been that they're all very similar. Seems like the only thing that makes one stand out from another is consistency of quality. On occasion - I'll visit one where the chicken is overcooked, or maybe the plantains are undercooked...which is sadly common. However - Pollo Peru is pretty consistently awesome. The chicken is flavorful, moist, and tender, and the plantains are cooked to a nice, dark, caramelized deliciousness. One thing all of the Peruvian chicken places don't do is sweet potato fries...but Pollo Peru has 'em - and they are scrumptious!

    (4)
  • Lindsey L.

Absolutely heads above all other Peruvian chicken spots in the area!

    (5)
  • K F.

One of the best places to go for Peruvian chicken in my opinion. Only negative thing I'd say is they don't give you enough of the sauces (which are awesome). Other than that, this place is fantastic.

  • Christina A.

Super moist and flavorful Peruvian chicken in Reston! Easy to place order on phone then pick up 10 minutes later. The food is cheap ($16 for whole chicken, two sides, and 4 sauces) and delicious for those times when I don't feel like cooking. You never have much of a long wait, but always have people coming and going. Last year come football time, they ran Sunday and Monday specials - $12 for whole ckn, 2 sides, 4 sauces. You cannot beat that! They recently switched up their yucca recipe, and also the green jalapeño sauce so its much better than when they first opened. Located next to the home depot. Recommend black beans, yucca, plantains, sweet potato fries, rice. This beats driving to Arlington!

The chicken is amazing. Sides are just ok. Well worth the trip for the chicken.

Yum!!! I have always been a Boston Market fan- but hell with them now. Pollo Peru is now my fav. We got the entire chicken- ( for the 2 of us) ... and all I got to say is that it's ALOT of food. Their sides were great. The chicken was moist- it was fresh- the meat wasnt alll dried up like BM.. and i will def go back again ... and again :)

Looking for a quick lunch after depositing money with Home Depot I decided on a first try at one of the Polo Chicken places. This is fast food. Don't think otherwise. Clean and fast so kudos in that department. The price is also good. The chicken was moist and well cooked (I hate rare chicken). The skin was well flavored in spices. Fries were big but greasy. The cole slaw was something they must have bought; i don't recommend it. Two sauces accompany the chicken. The green speckled sauce is spicy and if you can tolerate the heat it's good. The light green sauce tastes like mayonnaise so it was not to my liking. They need to upgrade their cutlery to be able to cut the chicken. If you pick up the chicken you'll want to wash your hands. They have one mens room with one sink. There were four people waiting to use it. Add more sinks or put one outside the bathroom. I likely would not go back unless I had no choice. Better than nearby Wendys and the New York Deli that isn't from New York and isn't much of a deli (see my review elsewhere of that place). Anyway, for a quick lunch near Home Depot in Reston it's ok. If you've got time there are better places nearby.

Not bad. Good chicken and fairly good prices. Pretty good plantains and pretty good prices. I think I like the chicken at Guapo's (Herndon) a little more. Their flan was decent. As I said, not great but not terrible.

  • Becca H.

The chicken is delicious! Yucca fries pretty solid though occasionally a bit dry. I 100% recommend the plantains, they're fabulous.

all chicken all the time. Really tasty chicken sandwich. Great spices and very meaty. Service is a little slow for take-out and prices a little high.

Good chicken, but the sides could be a little better, overall a good choice

  • Jordan K.

Great chicken and generous portions of sides. Very good option for anyone with a Peruvian chicken craving. Also, it is clean inside...which is a nice change from most Peruvian chicken places I have been to.

  • Caitlin C.

I'm still a fan - but just as a warning, you need to CHECK YOUR TO-GO ORDERS when picking up. Almost every time I get something to-go they forget a side or they forget that I ordered all white meat. The good news is, if they forget or screw something up they'll offer you a free dessert or side item :]

Having just moved to Reston from Arlington, one of the dining options I was going to miss was Peruvian chicken. But I found this little gem on one of my many Home Depot runs and it's well worth it! The chicken was moist (contrary to previous reviews) and the sides were tasty as well. I ordered 1/4 white chicken with french fries and a side salad (all for $5.99), with the others in my group getting the sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Everyone was ranting about the meal while we were eating it. The sauces were delicious too, but be forewarned: the green is VERY SPICY (according to our resident spice lover). There is plenty of seating and the restaurant is very clean. I would highly recommend this to others.

When I saw a Peruvian chicken placing opening so close to where we live, I knew I had to give it a try. So we finally went last night. And I was a little disappointed. Granted, I'm comparing it to Sardi's which has some of the best chicken you will ever eat, but I still expected more. I'm not used to having to wait at a peruvian chicken restaurant. Usually the chicken and sides are made and just need to be boxed up. But for some reason, even with only two other people waiting, it was still a 10 minute wait. I got the 1/4 chicken with sweet potato fries and plantains. The fries were ok, but could have been crispier. The plantains were the highlight of the meal- cook perfectly. The chicken itself was ok, but was definitely lacking in spices and the rich flavor you usually get with this type of dish. The sauces were disappointing. First, they only give you one mild and one hot, and want to charge if you want more. Neither had much flavor. I came in with high hopes but left disappointed.

  • Deb G.

Good food and not too salty. Was also pleased the rice wasn't too greasy either. The portions are medium sized. I just had a 1/4 chicken with rice and fries. The fries weren't too good, not hot and I don't care for the thick cut ones. It was a nice change and I wanted to go somewhere new (to me) in Reston

Pollo Peru does not deserve more than 1 star (at the most) when you compare them to other great Peruvian chicken restaurants in Northern VA like Super Chicken. These are the reasons for my low rating in no order of importance: 1) Messed up my order. 2) Served up gooey green sauce that looked like silly puddy. 3) Spices on the chicken were lacking. 4) Yucca was some fried, gooey, white mess...overmashed or pulverized. 5) Coleslaw was sloppy and runny with way too much mayo. The only decent items were their sweet potatoes and plaintains. The SP tasted like store-bought frozen ones (but at least edible) and their plantains were good (soft but not mushy). If Pollo Peru doesn't serve up real fried yucca and change their green jalepeno sauce, they won't last long. I'd rather drive 30 minutes to Super Chicken (the best in town) then drive across the street to Pollo Peru!!

Went to this place for the first time today, and was very pleased. The chicken and all the sides were good -- especially the yucca. Will return!

Food: 3 stars. It's hard to mess up Peruvian chicken. Mine was very good, crispy skin with the seasonings reaching below to the meat, however my order of yuca was under cooked. The green sauce was actually spicy for a change which I love, but the white sauce did nothing for me. They could have just given me a container of Hellman's, which I think they did. Location: 5 stars. It's less than 5 minutes from where I live and the only Peruvian chicken place I know of in Reston. Intangibles: 2.5 stars. A couple of reasons for this. First, you can't see your food being prepared. I like looking over the selection of side dishes and deciding what I want. I like seeing them chop the chicken in front of me. I like seeing how much dressing they squirt on my salad. I like seeing how many sauces they throw in my bag. I like seeing if the yuca looks old or the salad looks brown so I can choose a different side order. It's a different style of food prep that I'm used to seeing from Peruvian chicken joints I frequent. Secondly, I feel like I'm being nickel and dimed here. At other Peruvian restaurants my order of yucca is pretty much thrown in there willy nilly with the chicken. Here the yuca looks carefully stacked, as if they counted exactly how many pieces I was to receive. They also charge for extra sauce, which some places do and some don't, but universally drives me nuts. On the flip side, on my first visit I ordered a 1/4 chicken white and got 1/2 chicken white so go figure! Maybe they were trying to get my repeat business by throwing in some free chicken. Do they think I can be so easily swayed by free food? Sadly, yes :)

  • Jeff B.

Simple, functional Peruvian chicken -- nothing too fancy, but well-made for what it is. The sides are pretty good, although the coleslaw is a little too soupy. Not a bad place to stop for lunch if you work out in Reston like I do.

  • Sars L.

Chicken was delicious, but their sauces were unimpressive. The yellow sauce was like mayo + a smidge of something spicy, and the green sauce was really spicy and overly pureed to the point of a slimy texture. We also ordered rice and salad, but the rice was just white rice, which (as an asian) I can just make at home. I had hoped it would be Spanish rice, at least. I'm really big on dipping my chicken into a mix of the sauces but they only give you 2 for a whole chicken which is a little lame...

Tasty and consistent local peruvian chicken restaurant. Always satisfied with the quality of the food and the yuca/sweet potato fries are excellent sides. $.25 per extra sauce is the only real knock here.

  • Candace C.

Delicious chicken with two kinds of sauce. The yucca was alright, a little sweet and starchy, still prefer french fries. Plantains are my favorite! Not as cheap as some other places but it's nice and clean.

Best Peruvian place ive found, Uber moist and seasoned chicken speaks for itself. Been a huge fan since first tasting at taste of the town Reston Town Center 2010. The spicy green sauce is to die for and best ive found at at Peruvian place. Black beans are full of flavor, plantains, fries and fried Yuca are great.. As other reviewers have stated its hard to beat 1/4 chicken and two sides for 5.99, and the low cost is definitely not lost in food quality. If eating healthy a lot of people look past Peruvian chicken along with two healthier sides like doubling up on the side salad or the black beans. Friendly bilingual staff with plenty of seating. Tucked away near Home Depot in Reston. Recently recommended to my family and now there hooked just like me.

This is definitely one of the better Peruvian Chicken places in the area. They have a pretty great operation going on here. The chicken is incredibly flavorful and has a good charcoal aroma. The only thing that sucks about it is I pick it clean so fast I don't even have time to open the magical green sauce or hot mayo. Even though those are probably my favorite condiments on earth, the chicken is gone before I even give them a thought. I don't know what they do to the chicken (MSG?), but I cannot stop eating it once I start. This chicken is outrageously yummy! I tried the fries and coleslaw -- the coleslaw is tasty but very wet and likely calorific. The fries are in the Peruvian style, standard limp planks you get at the other pollo loco places. I usually opt for the salad which is not large, but pretty fresh and well-prepared. Dressing is good also. The inside is clean and pretty spacious as far as these joints go, but I always take out, as most customers seem to do. Never seen it crowded.

This is my favorite place in Reston for a quick, delicious plate of food that won't break the bank. My go-to meal is 1/4 Chicken (white meat), with fried yucca and plantains. And don't forget the Inca Cola. All for less than ten bucks.

A group of us decided to check this place out for lunch. After entering the first thing I noticed was the rows and rows of chicken cooking on the rotisserie and a pleasant smell of spices. I ordered a 1/4 chicken(dark meat), with sides of rice and black beans. My order came with 2 small sauces. One was mayo based and tasted good but didnt really go with anything on my plate. Would have enjoyed it with yucca or potato fries. The 2nd sauce was a spicy green paste with heavy tones of raw jalapeno and cilantro. Good kick but my aversion to cilantro kept me from using very much of it. While appearing plain the rice and black beans were spot on, rice was fresh and tender, and the beans were well seasoned, made a great match with the chicken. The chicken itself was tasty, the thigh and leg were meaty and juicy. Soft drinks are served in the can, no fountain.

I think the food is pretty tasty and the prices are really reasonable for lunch... As long as you like chicken! Portions were also generous. The physical atmosphere wasn't great, but I think their typical patrons care more about the food.

Good chicken - moist and flavorful. Sweet potato fries are great. Black beans and plantains too. Other sides we've tried including fried yucca and close slaw, are good. Drinks are only in bottles or cans; wish they had unsweetened ice tea with lots of ice and lemon. That would help since they are saving on A/C -- 85 inside, 82 out. Carry out next time.

Be very careful with this chicken. Do you know what is in it ? I ask, they would not tell me. They have a "secret" recipe and won't tell. Most restaurants have ingredients available at request. "Sorry NOPE, our ingredients are a secret". That's a little scary ! If you have any food allergy and expect roasted chicken to be... well, roasted chicken, sorry. It's not Gluten free, who knows what else is in it ? Most restaurants will make some attempt to accommodate customers by either actually offering a healthy choice or at least telling you up front, the foods not safe. It's annoying, but also disturbing that the ingredients are "secret" Who knows what's in there ?

Are you so hungry you could eat a whole chicken? Sometimes I am and in addition to being convenient to my home, I think this place is pretty good. Sauces aren't as special as they maybe should be, but I like the chicken here better than other rotisserie styles. Great sweet potato fries and plantains too.

3.5 stars for me. Chicken was a little dry but I don't think it was over cooked either since there was a pink spot here and there. I like it more marinated than this. Sweet potato fries and yuca were nice included options for sides. Dining areas are nice and clean. El Pollo Rico still has the most flavorful balanced well-cooked chicken (but limited sides). Super chicken still has the best options for sides and is #2 with chicken.

Atmosphere is fast food-ish but food is amazing! Best peruvian chicken around Reston/Herndon. Love the platanos! Pleasant staff.

Okay, this was my first time here. I first noticed the place when I was visiting the Home Depot as it is in the same lot; I think it's called Home Depot Center. Now, who doesn't really line the Peruvian style charbroiled chicken...always tasty. I ordered a basic meal for lunch which was ¼ chicken with rice and black beans. The chicken was done and moist just as it supposed to be. I've had this style of chicken at other places and sometimes it comes out so dry. The flavor, delicious! The beans were seasoned nicely but maybe a little on the salty side. If they use pork to cook them in, this could be the culprit. And the rice was, well, it was white rice. They do serve "premium" sides for an up charge. This time I will rate it a 4. The service was great at the registers and at pick up. The only thing that made me downgrade from a possible 4.5 was that they gave me the order "to go" when told them that I would be eating in. Either way it's served in or on styrofoam with plastic utensils. I will definitely be back.

This is my go to place for Peruvian chicken! I just found out they're doing so well that they opened a 2nd location. They focus on chicken only and do it the best around. Do yourself a favor and stop in soon!

I ordered via the online website last night around 6pm. I ordered a whole chicken (dark meat), all yellow sauces, cole slaw and sweet potato fries. The chicken was very dry. It was flavored perfectly but way overcooked. I got two green sauces which i did not ask for. They tasted pretty bad. The two yellow sauces were good though. Both sides were delicious. I really wish they would learn to cook their chicken properly. If they did, I would prefer this place over Waku in Herndon.

I got the 1/4 chicken with beans and salad. I also got their cookie dessert with the cream in the middle. Let me begin with the chicken! Omg. Delish! Not too dry or too moist. The sauces they give you are everything! I dipped the chicken in both before devouring it! The beans say they have a Latin flavor. They were ok. The salad was basic. None of the vegetables were wilted so that's a plus. Now for the cookie!!!! Amazing. I wasn't expecting it to be so soft! It crumbles in your mouth. A person could eat this without their dentures in. The flavor was kind of vanilla. Not sure what the cream in the center was but the flavor blended well together.

This place is the bomb! Good place for a quick, inexpensive bite. I usually get a 1/4 chicken with sides (like sweet potato fries and rice), with 2 green sauces. The green sauce is spicy and so delicious, i even dip my fries in there! The yellow sauce is a bit too sweet and mayonnaisey for my taste. The alfajor cookie is good too, shortbread cookies with dulce de leche in the middle.

FAST, GREAT AND GENEROUS. They are so fast with their orders (I go there for lunch during work), their pollo is the best pollo within a 10 mile radius of Reston, and they are super generous with their serving size. Really great place!

So delicious and juicy chicken for a "fast food" kind of place. The two choices of sauces are also excellent. My fave treat is the sweet plantain! The price is just okay. Kudos for giving your customers extra 10% if checking in Yelp! Thanks! I took out one star for there is no delivery option.

They call it pollo Peru but do not cook authentic Peruvian food I agree the chicken was very dry and they couldn't get the requested sauces correct even though I was charged extra... hands down I will not come back but will def continue going to "mi Rico Peru" it is in Franconia area but all the food there is great, cooked to perfection and they offer several REAL authentic Peruvian dishes including drinks!! Check them out Reply to Kara G. : Btw not promoting AT ALL but def want people to know what a poor experience I had at ur place... As well as where to find better chicken and REAL Peruvian food!! :) good luck!

Originally was going to give 3.5 stars, but 1/2 star bumped up because of the friendly service received by the woman working the front this evening. I ordered the 1/4 chicken with the salad and fries, and my bf ordered the 1/2 chicken with yuca and coleslaw. There is a slight upcharge on choosing Yuca as a side (50cents, I think?). The prices could be cheaper compared to other joints. The food came out in 10 minutes or so, and we had a flan as well. Also ordered tres leches cake, but sadly they were out. The woman helping us in the front gave us the choice of getting another dessert, or refund. She happily refunded our money on the cake. The chicken was moist, I was happy about that. The sauces are always the moment of truth at Peruvian spots. Peru passed! Yellow sauce was our agreed-on favorite. The green wasn't spicy at all. The fries were fries, the salad was a nice blend of non-iceberg (way to go, Pollo Peru!) and comes with balsamic vinegar sauce. The yuca was a little on the dry side tonight. Overall, filling and solid meal. I was satisfied with this visit! The restaurant itself is spacious, and we were happy that it was empty so we could choose anywhere to sit. Little did we know, we came in at 530 right before the dinner rush. 6pm a crowd of people kept flowing in; good for them! Good chicken, nice people. Honored the Yelp discount. Thumbs up, Pollo Peru.

They have good chicken but in the 4 times I have come here they have gotten my order wrong twice. The last time I asked for 10 yellow sauces and they wrote it on the ticket. I got 10 green. I got home and turned around because what is Peruvian chicken without yellow sauce. (Yes, I am white.). They replaced the sauce and the kids behind the counter were polite and apologetic. The manager was cold and rude. One of the kids asked her if she should give me a discount card and she ignored him. I was not looking for a discount card, but probably would not have bothered to write this review if I had gotten one. Customer service, people. Keep us happy.

Oh Man. I decided to switch it up today and let Yelp find me someplace new for lunch. Best. Decision. Ever. I love Peruvian Chicken but didn't want to deal with greasy hands/messy desk so I was excited to see a sandwich option on the menu. Nestled in a strip mall, in a Home Depot parking lot, Pollo Peru is most likely not something I would have found on my own. Apparently that's just me though as the line was almost out the door! The place itself is simple, there is a huge menu on the wall on one side, signs where to order, signs where to pick up, and a large seated area beyond the waiting area. I got my food quickly and the staff seemed to handle the lunch rush with ease. When I finally got back to my desk (after what felt like the longest car ride ever!) I was excited to see how much food I got for $10. The sandwich was flavorful and the chicken was juicy and delicious! The yucca is probably the best I have ever had, crunchy on the outside and soft and cloud like on the inside. The coleslaw was sweet--just how I like it. Zero complaints here! The green sauce was spicier than I expected, but it was a great contrast to the more mayonnaise based light sauce. I can't wait to go back and try the plantains, I saw some on a few plates and they looked fantastic!

Like I said previously, I will never cater from this place again. After having such a hard time placing the order and treated like my business was a hassle. The day of the catering is here and my husband goes to pick up the chicken and tray of rice I ordered. So they make him wait because the order wasn't ready yet ... even though we had agreed on a specific time. Then they give him the chickens, so he's still there waiting and he asks for the tray of rice. The lady that helped him says there's no rice he ordered. So he pulls out the receipt and shows her where it says tray of rice, even after pointing at the rice order she still says we didn't order any rice. Finally someone comes to assist her and points at the rice on the same receipt. Unbelievable, by the time my husband got to our baby shower, my guests were hungry, the chicken was cold and dry and he was not in a good mood.

For a non Peruvian this is great chicken, but not for me, the green sauce isn't the best , the chicken is okay, not better than Pollo Rico, Chicken Pollo or Eddy's chicken, but it has room for improvement. Great open and clean place. Chicken Rico on Elden street is however my go to place.

Instead of getting a whole chicken (around $16), for the same price you can get 5 pieces of dark meat chicken, which is what we opted to get. For sides, the meal comes with 2 and the group chose sweet potato fries and rice. In addition, we ordered sides of yucca and black beans. The beans here are pretty standard and done well. Yucca was fluffy tender on the inside and crisp on the outside. Chicken here was flavorful and moist. The sweet potato fries weren't overwhelmingly crisp. The sauces here are different compared to other places, in that the green sauce is more herbaceous and not well blended like other places. The green sauce still had that definitive background of minor heat and visually looked more like a pesto. The yellow mayo was pretty standard and similar to others. The full chicken or 5 piece dark meat meal comes with 4 sauce pairs. Really for the price you pay, it's really not a shabby deal at all. Everything was pretty spot on and this place has a decent amount of seating available. Pretty clean inside.

Great peruvian chicken at a great price. I got the 1/4 chicken dark with coleslaw and fried plantains with extra green sauce. For $7.04 almost cheaper than Starbucks, and way more protein. The plantains were nice and dark brown, and the green sauce was great -- chunkier than I've had before, and I liked it. The chicken was not quite as juicy and might have been just slightly overdone, as the skin was almost hard, but I also came in at 1:30pm and things had slowed down since the lunch rush. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt -- I'll be back.

So many Peruvian chicken choices, so little time! Choose wisely... Are you anywhere near Reston? Are you not heading into Herndon? And you're obviously searching for pollo peruviano, because you're reading this review, so that's what you're in the mood for, right? Are you looking for a place with ample parking, friendly counter service, succulent, fall-off-the-bone not-too-salty rotisserie chicken? Maybe you need to stop at Home Depot afterward? Then head on over to Pollo Peru in the Home Depot shopping center! One of the other key points of star-dom for Pollo Peru is their menu - it's simple, it's concise, it's easy to follow, and it's definitely affordable. You won't need to squint to read tiny print above cashier's heads, or be in the way of others as you're deciding, as the large menu is to your left on the wall as you enter, or pick up a printed brochure with the exact same menu reproduced inside. CHICKEN. POLLO. POULET. Whatever you want to call it, Pollo Peru does it right. If you're wild about rotisserie chicken but not so wild about the mess factor and bone-pickin', they do offer an array of sandwiches. I haven't sampled them, but they should be tasty, given everything else offered. It's only $7 for a sandwich without sides. I loved the "Low-Carb Meal," which consisted of a 1/4 all-white meat chicken, and a large salad, for only $6.39. Hubby opted for the 1/4 chicken meal, so we were able to share the 2 sides that he chose that came along with the meal, still only $5.89, with minor upcharges for certain sides or white meat only. Still quite a deal, no? Sides and their quality are also important to me at a Peruvian joint. Such as: how good is the fried yucca? Is the rice savory and well-cooked? How are the ubiquitous yellow/green sauces? Do they taste fresh and homemade? How do they complement the delicious pollo al horno you're about to consume? They obviously sell Inka Kola and Chicha Morada, plus of note are their Yucca Balls, which are different from the fried yucca side...you really need to get some Yucca Balls in your life. There are your standard desserts in individual containers for sale in the fridge display case as you pay, and there's also a kid's meal with either an 1/8 chicken or chicken tenders. Orale! (Okay, I know that's Mexican slang, and we're talking about a Peruvian place, but you get what I mean)

By far the best Peruvian chicken joint I've found in the dc area. This place is our easy-button staple at least once a week. We usually get a whole chicken and two large slaws, which gives us 4 meals. The chicken is seasoned just right.. not to salty like some places and the seasoning level is just perfect. The slaw is also the best I've had than at the other chicken places. The beans are too salty for my liking but that is generally what I find at all the other places too.

We really love coming here for the chicken! The portions are big, the food is delish, and the prices are incredibly affordable. It's a great place for lunch or dinner and it's in a convenient location. I'd highly recommend the plantains and fried yucca. Honestly, any selection is good and you won't be disappointed.

This place is the perfect embodiment to the saying, "Never judge a book by it's cover". I say that because, when you first arrive in this shopping center it can present itself as a bit peculiar looking, however, when you enter Pollo Peru you become a bit relieved at how nice this place actual looks and how clean it is. When you enter the establishment you can immediately see their huge menu located on the wall to the left of the cash registers. One thing that I do appreciate about this place is that their menu isn't over saturated with items. It is a simple menu only containing items in which Pollo Peru knows they can execute at a high level. To the right of the cash register you can find a reasonably sized eating area which from the looks of it is kept quite clean. I think this a relatively cool place to come with a few friends or colleagues to eat for lunch and or dinner (If you feel like eating in and eating Peruvian). Another thing to note is that if you are a Yelper utilizing the Yelp app check-in feature, then it is more than possible for you to get a check-in coupon for 10% off. Which I did and ended up using for my meal on this particular visit. Now on to the food. Here is what I ordered: 1/4 Quarter Chicken (White Meat) Rice Plantains All in all everything tasted delicious. One thing I noticed that was quite interesting is that there green and white sauces seem to look and taste different than the sauces at the other Peruvian establishments that I have been too. As of right now I like the sauces at this Peruvian place better than the other places I've tried thus far. All of this just to say that I will most definitely be back again.

One of the better Peruvian chicken places in DC Metro area. The chicken had great seasoning, the sides were good (yucca and side salad), and the portions were good. Prices were also good. They are really 3.5 stars but I am feeling generous today as another peruvian chicken place that I had earlier in the week was nowhere near as good & I gave it 3 stars.

Oh Pollo Peru....why did ya do it? I was SO EXCITED to have a Peruvian chicken place on my way home from work, but alas you let me down. I showed up at about 6:20 on Monday evening to pick up some dinner on my way home from work. There's one line for ordering and another line for pick-up, which is different than the rest of the Peruvian Chicken places I frequent, but hey, I'll go with it. So I placed my order...1/4 white meat with yucca and plantains, 3 green sauces and 1 yellow sauce, and 1 side of sweet potato fries. Then I waited, and waited, and waited, and waited some more. You would have thought the place was packed to the gills for all the waiting I was doing, but no...it was just 2 guys, a little old lady, and me waiting for our orders. Apparently they hadn't started cooking the dinner chicken until someone came in to order the dinner chicken. Really guys? I mean one of the reasons I come to Peruvian chicken is because it's quick and I'm a hungry girl. Had you informed me that you didn't have any chicken prepared when I was ordering I would have taken my hungry self somewhere else. Anyway while I was doing all this waiting I realized the counter chick mis-charged me. You see 2 sauces come with my meal and she charged me for an additional 3 green sauces and 1 yellow sauce as opposed to just 2 additional green sauces. Now I might be cheap because I'm brown, but if you're going to charge me for extra sauce, make sure you charge me right. So I went up and informed her of this and she says to me, "Well you might as well get the additional sauce since you paid for it." Um, the only reason I paid for it is because you charged me incorrectly. I then had to explain to her that yes, I did pay for it, but it's because she charged me incorrectly and now I was going to get 6 sauces. She still didn't understand, at this point I figured I was better off just keeping all of the extra sauce. Hey Pollo Peru owner, if you're going to have separate counters to order and to pick up please be sure your staff is competent. Finally at 6:47 I got my meal. Even after all of this, if the meal was good I would have returned because it's just that worth it to have a Peruvian Chicken place that's close. Sadly the meal was just plain sad. The chicken was ok, not your typical Peruvian spiced chicken though. The sauces, which pretty much make the meal for me, were just disgusting. Seriously, you're going to charge me for gross sauce? Yes, they're going to charge you for gross sauce. The green sauce is poop green and doesn't taste fresh in the least (unlike El Pollo Rico or Super Chicken's green sauce). The "yellow" sauce, well I'm pretty sure it's just mayo. The yucca looks barely fried; I prefer my yucca browner. The sweet potato fries were the reason for 2 stars instead of 1...they were good, but unseasoned, so bring your own salt. They were quite yummy dipped in the mayo once I added some salt to them. Pollo Peru if you're reading this, I have some suggestions for you: 1 - Don't wait until someone comes in to start cooking chicken. You should always have fresh chicken or no more than 10 minutes away from being ready to serve. 2 - Improve your sauces. Hire a spy over at El Pollo Rico or Super Chicken and learn how they do it, because they do it right. 3 - Don't separate the place your order from the place you pick up. It creates confusion and your staff is not competent enough to make up for it. I may go back if they're still there in the winter to give them another try, but until then I'll truck it to Tyson's after work to get my chicken fix.

Very dry chicken, no flavor. Sauces are not good, and they try to charge you extra for the 1 oz that is enough to accommodate one bite. Yucca batter also was not good. You are better served getting chk at Giant.

I'm a Peruvian Chicken Lover. Lived in Arlington for 10 years, so I have a bit of experience with many locations. I'm not going to try and compare Pollo Peru to any of them like other reviewers have done, because that really shows a bias for one place over another. Peruvian Chicken spots in the DC area definitely have their followers, but in the end most of them have something great about them, and something sub-par, and evidently that comes down to a personal opinion that may be connected to that persons first pollo experience. My perfect Pollo experience would have me picking up a different menu item from up to 5 separate Peruvian Chicken spots. I like Pollo Peru for these reasons. First, I moved to Reston a few months ago, so now it's my local spot for Peruvian Chicken. So, onto the Chicken.... my family and I had a whole chicken, and while the overall flavors did not permeate throughout the meat, the chicken was very juicy(which is more that i can say about a place that uses "juicy" in their name.). The skin was also very "crispy". So, 4 stars on the chicken. We had Yucca with the chicken and it was done proper, super soft on the inside, and sharp and crunchy on the outside. So, 4 stars for the Yucca. The sauces were not even close to some of my favorites from other spots, but the green(jalapeno) sauce was think, creamy, and spicy, while the white sauce was actually "white sauce", pretty much just mayonnaise, which is a completely bland approach in my opinion. However, combining the two sauces was the way to go, and satisfied my family. The service was great, the staff was very friendly. The interior is minimal and there is good amount of space to sit down and eat. I give it 4 stars for it's location to me in Reston as there is not another Pollo place in Reston. I've been missing the abundant choices for Peruvian chicken I had in Arlington. Overall score is 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. *Update* 8/25/11 they have improved their white sauce, and it's quite unique and good, little bit of kick.

I would come back to this place whenever I have cravings for Peruvian chicken. It's not the best that I've had but good enough for a quick workday lunch, plus you can't beat that price for a 1/4 chicken with 2 sides. I like the sweet potato fries. The green sauce is supposed to be spicy but in my opinion it's still not spicy enough and doesn't have that "kick" (that's just me though since I eat super spicy food all the time).

I have had Pollo Peru 4 times now and it has gone downhill each time. The first time I went the chicken was moist and the sides were hot and cooked appropriately. More recently though, the chicken has been dry and the sides have been cold or undercooked. With other peruvian chicken places popping up around the place it is going to be hard for Pollo Peru to keep my business if they continue with the dry chicken and poor quality sides.

Six PM, Fri. 5 Aug., my first visit to this peculiar place, which reeks of inauthenticity, (whatever "authenticity" could mean in the wacky world of N. Va. Peruvian cuisine.) It's staffed by kids trying their best, and it is clean seeming, but why does foil hide the view of the kept-warm chicken and the ministrations of the harried preparer? Where is the wonderful, addictive, crispy, smoky, winey vinegary flavor of Andean pollo? Not here, but the chicken is OK-- just. Why does the yucca have the texture of tater-tots and the flavor of... what? Not yucca, exactly, but not bad. Actually preferable to some of the indifferently fried yucca one finds... but what have they done, pressure cooked this stuff first? One thing does stand out here. Way out. The aji verde is by a long margin the worst sauce of any genre I have ever tasted -- (or seen, it's a sick and ghastly greenish.) My theory is that they got a deal on an expired Peruvian military MRE stash from the 1950's. It's tinny & bitter with a hint of kerosene. It is NOT bright green, in flavor or appearance, it is NOT noticeably picante, it's just foul. To serve this to people is to announce that you disrespect them. Loudly. I live just down the street, and so had huge hopes for this place. A visit to their website reveals big plans, and claims deep Peruvian roots (see "Our Story," which reads a little slippery to me), so I want to be wrong. I want to go back and order a chicken and smell charcoal... I want to have them reach in and slide it off the spit and cut it up and plate or wrap it in front of me, I want it to be as spicy and wonderful as they claim it is, and I want green sauce, not pond scum. I'll give them a little longer, and then try again, but this place feels more like a marketing concept than an honest family effort. Sorry.

Was there yesterday and disappointed, the chicken is dry as well as the yucca. I guess they cook a large batch of chickens and once it is cooked they will placed it in a food warmer to be served. If they want to entice more people to come and buy more food then they should leave the chicken on the rotisserie, not only to keep it warm but it looks inviting especially the bellowing smoky flavor from the charcoal and chicken. They should take the coleslaw out of the menu and replace it with refried beans or so. It is boring and not a lot of carrots and vegetables. Dry rub is okay but it is not succulent and juicy anymore once you put the chicken in a food warmer for hours. This place has a potential to be a success and be a competitor to Guapos but not for now. Be back in a few months and see if they improved.

This Peruvian chicken joint is fine. It did not knock my socks off, but I would go back if I was in the area.

Went to this place for the first time today, and was very pleased. The chicken and all the sides were good -- especially the yucca. Will return!

Are you so hungry you could eat a whole chicken? Sometimes I am and in addition to being convenient to my home, I think this place is pretty good. Sauces aren't as special as they maybe should be, but I like the chicken here better than other rotisserie styles. Great sweet potato fries and plantains too.

Simple, functional Peruvian chicken -- nothing too fancy, but well-made for what it is. The sides are pretty good, although the coleslaw is a little too soupy. Not a bad place to stop for lunch if you work out in Reston like I do.

Chicken is ok. However, the increases in price kill this place. $1.00 addition if you order plantains, yucca and/or sweet potato fries... EACH!! I cant support a place that drastically increases prices like that.

One of the best places to go for Peruvian chicken in my opinion. Only negative thing I'd say is they don't give you enough of the sauces (which are awesome). Other than that, this place is fantastic.

    (2)
  • Scott M.

Very dry chicken, no flavor. Sauces are not good, and they try to charge you extra for the 1 oz that is enough to accommodate one bite. Yucca batter also was not good. You are better served getting chk at Giant.

  • john b.

  • Steve S.

My go-to place for pollo al brasa in the Reston/Herndon area! sweet potatoes fries, regular fries and the platanos are all money! Chicken is always delish!

I regularly go their for their Pollo Peru melt sandwich. It is quite good. A good chicken sandwich for $7.41 ! I had tried their peruvian chicken as well, it was good , not great !

Great chicken ! Dont expect anything fancy.. But a great place to get lunch. The chicken is always juicy and the sides are great. If you are looking for a great price.. Im always full and usually end up taking food home. AWESOME !!

  • K. R.

Gave this place a try and glad I did. Their chicken is great with a crispy skin. Sometimes it can be a little salty for me but generally, it's fine. Their yucca is great and their green sauce is a little different than most places with great flavor and some texture to it.

  • Kathy D.

Just not a lot of good pollo options in this Reston so I've ended up eating here a handful of times. The yucca and coleslaw are good, but the chicken is ok at best and the fries are always soggy.

  • Mayra Q.

The chicken was good but the sides were too small, no like a family size. The service was good and the place was clean.
