This is my favorite neighborhood spot. Usually not too crowded or loud, perfect comfort food after a long week. The tacos are fantastic. Try the tacos al pastor, by far the best thing on the menu. They do have good margaritas, however their best drink on the menu is the taqueria caipirinha.

...And yet another disappointing experience. Do I draw the worst out of people when I come here? For 3 years I've begrudgingly dined here on someone else's suggestion, and I will go every time hoping for a different experience than the last. Yet I keep experiencing the same lackluster service and mediocrity fare they offer. They say they were voted best margarita for 20xx... well, my question is how? Is the majority of the population who frequent here completely disillusioned or is it just me who happens to disagree with the majority? This is mind blowing and a question that will forever linger in my thoughts. Like my last 4 reviews, everything I feel still remains the same unchanged.

Came here for dinner, we liked that it had some outdoor seating. Great location where new apartments & restaurants are being built. Compared to a lot of chain or authentic Mexican restaurants the food portions are small as well as the food selection. They were voted one of the best margaritas in dc area, they were good but would have liked them to have frozen options. They only serve the margaritas on the rocks. The service was good, I can't complain & food came out at pretty quick. They have other locations too, I tried the one in Mount Vernon & felt the same about the food & drinks. I would return just for drinks but not for the food.

The service gets this place to three stars. Our server, Amanda, was very attentive and was still nice after we sent our first appetizer back. Appetizers: The queso is block cheese and butter baked in a small ceramic dish. It was very greasy and heavy. After spooning out three spoonfuls of butter I was pretty much done. Replaced it with taquitos which were okay. Drinks: Apparently they won a reader's choice award from the City Paper for having the best margaritas. Meh. It was okay. Nothing to write home about. Entree: We both ordered the chicken tacos al carbon. Good sized portion. Food was not very flavorful. We won't be returning, and this place gets an overall 'Meh'.

I came here this weekend with my boyfriend after passing by almost weekly. Boy was I glad we came! Those margaritas, the best I've ever had, still amaze me. I mean I had 3 and I was ready for 4 (believe me) but we had to go. Try for yourself, trust me. I ordered the vegetarian tostada (per the waitresses suggestion). I was confused and wasn't sure what to get and she told me she likes it better than the chicken so I went for it. Glad I did and it was huge and I ate the whole thing. My boyfriend got the fish tacos and he loved them. They were beer battered and fried if I remember correctly (fried is the part I remember). I almost forgot! The nachos and dip at the beginning - literally the perfect salsa I have ever tasted. I absolutely hate (and I mean hate) that jarred salsa mix that are served at restaurants. THIS is the exact opposite. So delicious, we asked for a second at our table! My server was lovely and I truly wish I remembered her name to give her the credit she deserved. All the staff we came across on Friday night were great. I'll definitely be back for the whole shebang!

Nice happy hour prices :) Drinks are so good and the place looks very nice! However they should have more tequilas choices :)

Love this place, the maragritas are AMAZING. The food is really great too. Love this place, in the summer I go at least once a week. My favorite neighborhood spot.

I love coming here for a casual lunch, dinner, or happy hour. Take-out is also good.

Came here to try the award winning margarita! It tasted like fresh squeezed lime juice over ice. Yum! It was definitely good and the service at the bar was good too! After waiting for just a few minutes we snagged a table outside... But once seated we had to flag someone down to place a food order... So the service could have been better. But the food came quickly and it was good! My cousin liked her crab quesadilla and I really enjoyed my cumin marinated chicken burrito. It was huge!! I couldn't even finish it. Overall it was a good experience and the prices were great and the food and drinks were tasty. I'll probably be back sooner than later.

This is a nice addition to the Pike and beats the pants off the other mexican restaurant around the corner. They specialize in their house-made margaritas, of which they have a selection of around 10; one is a chocolate margarita that I'm dying to try. Their margaritas alone give them an extra star. The food is very authentic and creative. I went with the duck and pork tacos. Everything was abudandant, flavorful and delicious. I've been to their location in Del Ray as well and think their cebollitas are probably the best thing on the menu. Right off da grill. Service is okay here, there were a couple things missed during the lunch rush but nothing consistent that I have seen. Overall, it's a chill, authentic mexican spot with killer margaritas. Can't wait for the patio to open in the summer!

A disappointment. The special Crab Enchiladas were: 1) Tiny, almost an appetizer portion 2)... not a hint of crab flavor. Margaritas were ok but nothing to write home about... disappointed...

There is only 1 redeeming factor about this place and that is the Margaritas. Other than that, this place is rather dull as a Mexican place. The food is okay, but nothing to write home about. Just another regular Mexican place you can find in anywhere USA. There are no extra ordinary or extra fresh or special anything to this place. The interior decorating is also super atrocious. This looks like some 8 year old nightmare turned into reality via vinyl. I shuttered just looking at the place. They are nice with giving parking passes though.

Pretty average Mexican food... Got an order of guacamole and some fish tacos. The guacamole was decent but it had too many non-avocado ingredients, watering down its flavor. The fish tacos were way bigger than expected but the favor was pretty bland. The service was incredibly friendly, which is reason enough to come back, but I think I'll steer away from the food and instead opt for the award-winning margaritas.

I think this will be my last visit. The food is just ok. I ordered the grilled salmon tacos, the lunch special. Welllllllllllllllllllllll, the salmon was tasty, but the corn tortilla was cold. I'm assuming they just grabbed 2 corn tortillas out of the refrigerator and put some salmon, cabbage, and tomatoes on it. I was starving. I ate the filling, left the tortillas. I've had more than enough blah experiences at this restaurant. I think I can officially stop dining here. And the server/bartender, I don't think he has said two words. He just walked up to me and stared. So, I said, I'd like some water please. He walked away, returned with the water, and looked at me. I ordered the meal, he walked away and in a few short minutes, the meal appeared. He has yet to return and ask how I'm doing. Now, I have to get his attention to ask for the check. O_o They have good margaritas though, when made correctly. Well, no more wasting my hard earned dollars here. Thanks, but no thanks.

It has taken several years for me to warm up to Taqueria Poblano but I am now happy to say "Yay! I'm a fan!" The atmosphere is so welcoming and inviting with it's brightly colored walls and furniture. The service is also uber friendly and always greet me with a smile when I walk through the door. My favorite things to order are: + The crab quesadilla special - Nothing beats blue crab and melted cheese blanketed in a mound of warm toasty carbs. I dare you to find anything better than this on the menu. + Crispy fish and duck tacos - Two tacos and a side order will fill you up! + Lime marinated beef - Essentially fajitas minus the sizzling skillet but add in hot melted cheese over gridded onions and peppers Although I'm not much of a margarita fan (it's gin for me!), I do find myself craving their hand crafted ones on sunny days. It's the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. Nothing at all like the ones I used to down at the local neighborhood watering hole I used to frequent in college. If you're not a tequila fan, try the rum-ritas. The boy loves them!

The food is terrible. Below frozen entrees from TJ's quality. In fact, I think a lot of the stuff IS frozen. When they first opened, I really enjoyed the margaritas and the tacos al pastor. Small plates = OK. Then I'd tried the chicken mole dinner, and was not impressed. Last night, I ordered the pork loin tacos. OMG what is wrong with that meat? It was simultaneously undercooked-looking, tasteless (even with the adobo rub), and scary. I'm afraid that--since most people wouldn't be ordering the pork loin, I got something nasty that they thought might be alright with the rub. The flour tortillas were fresh, and the veggies and rice were so-so. I sent this dish back--I never do that. Bartender recommended the enchiladas instead. I got them to-go, and there were three terrible enchiladas with nothing else to accompany them. Just a pile of awful mush. Really, really appalling. Oh,I just looked at the menu online -- I was supposed to get rice, refried beans, guacamole, and red sauce with these "enchiladas." Nope. A bit of congealed red sauce around the edges,maybe--that's what happens to sauce in the microwave. What, was this my punishment for sending back a dish? SMH. Only reason for a star--the bartender was friendly and helpful, even if wrong about "oh yes they're delicious." Barf. (I hope not--I was worried...time will tell.) By the way, somehow this has become the local Toothless Old Man bar. They were dominating the bar when I arrived--all spread out so others wouldn't be able to sit down.

Ask about their special salmon dish - it's a very tasty and generous portion of salmon steak, onions, rice and salsa. The dish also comes with corn tortillas. YUM!

The drinks were ok, and the service wasn't terrible, but the food must be the most underwhelming I have ever had the poor fortune to experience. I mean how do you screw up fish tacos??? It was disappointing to say the least. Feel free to try it yourself if you want but I'd advise against it.

Best margarita in Arlington for sure! Food is consistently good and I would recommend their Brunch as well! Staff is amazing and great with kids. We know the drill with small kids... order quick, eat quick and get out of there... and they help make that happen. Bonus, there's a Menchies Ice Cream and a spray park within a block which is the perfect evening for families!

Ended up coming here because Pedro and Vinny's wasn't open and I was craving a burrito. I thought the food tasted bland. However, my boyfriend thought it tasted fine. He ordered the Tres Enchiladas which were super small...especially considering the price - $13.95. I ordered the Green Chile Pork burrito "al arriba" and noticed it was barely warm and not very tasty at all. It's like damn, how can you mess up a burrito? I was very disappointed. The habanero sauce that one of the servers offered was the only flavorful thing, but it couldn't save the burrito. I also thought the pork smelled a bit funky as well. We had also ordered the queso dip appetizer, which was also bland and greasy. The salsa was ok, but also lacking- I tried adding the two random sauces that were on the table to it in attempt to add a kick, but the sauces were also bland. I doubt I'd come back, but if I do, I guess it would just be to try their drinks. They did have a cute photoshopped photo of three cats in sombreros... I think to promote one of their specialty drinks.

Four stars for the tacos and drinks. Three stars for enchiladas and two stars for service. I mostly sit at the bar here. Taqueria Poblano does a great job with their caiprinhas and mojitos. Bar service has always been excellent. I love the duck carnitas taco and the crispy L.A. style taco with carnitas. Both are heavy on the flavorful meat, which I love. I recently stopped by to soak up some alcohol with a full meal and was less than thrilled. The pork and chicken enchiladas were lacking in flavor, with the exception of the melted cheese on top. They were big and did their job, but I'll stick to their tacos. Service was also quite disjointed, and while not rude, it wasn't great. I really love the drinks here and the tacos are tasty. But I don't recommend a full meal here.

Went here for lunch with a friend since we were in the area, but it was really disappointing. While the decor may be bright and colorful, the food here falls flat and flavorless. I had opted for the daily special, which was the tamale platter. Tamales were dry and tasteless, very reminiscent of frozen tamales heated up in the microwave. The texture was just terribly off. It came with cabbage slaw, pico de gallo, guacamole, and rice. My friend ordered two LA-style chicken tacos and a side of refried beans. The refried beans had a pleasant texture, but coupled with the lack of seasoning, eating them quickly felt like slathering cement or grout in our mouths. Chicken filling was very flat. We had made some comments to the server and the server had mentioned that they were all not fans of how the chef makes the chicken, but the chef was unwilling to make changes to the recipe. Service was friendly, but very absent-minded. We were eating lunch during a weekday, but staff were focused in chatting in the back (could hear their conversations and laughter) and/or watching the television sets in the dining room. The only highlight of the meal were the complimentary chips and salsa, as the salsa was finely blended with sweet hints of pineapple. Chips were perfectly crisp and salted.

Guys this is literally the worst Mexican food I have ever had. I am married to a Mexican and I eat a LOT of Mexican at a lot of different places. The service is not great either. Please go somewhere else. Unfortunately, there are very few authentic, delicious Mexican places in Arlington :( I have heard there are better places in Alexandria and Fairfax, but we haven't made it out there yet. If you would like some awesome tacos you should go to the Chilango truck in Rosslyn!

Went here with my boy last night after deciding we wanted Mexican. Newer place near his apartment. They started us off with chips and salsa (always a win in my book). We also ordered margs on the rocks and the queso dip. The queso was actually melted cheese and we were expecting a dip. Still tasty but hard to eat. I had the fish taco and the crispy shredded pork taco. Both were delicious. Good slaw on the fish taco and not too spicy which I prefer. My boyfriend had the fish taco and the duck taco. He also loved his and added plenty of the habanero sauce. I can see us coming back here for sure!

This is our go-to Mexican, even though we live much closer to the N. Arlington location. Easy to get a seat, much more relaxed S. Arlington ambience. Take a good hard look at the specials-- I love the mole enchiladas and the tamales. The tacos and the drinks are very tasty; can't vouch for authenticity, but we always leave happy.

They got away from their Happy Hour specials and raised prices. This place is no longer worth it. A small taco is $ 5.50 and the new happy hour plates are tiny. The new Happy Hour sucks. If u order any plate with steak al carbon there's an extra charge of $1.50 on tip of the already advertised beef plates. The menu sticker says there's a temporary shortage of meat.

I have found myself visiting this place regularly during happy hour to take advantage of the best margaritas I have found in Arlington and a good variety of happy hour food specials. Try a spicy margarita for something different :) Good caipirinhas too. love the fish and chicken tacos. My fiancee loves the braised beef tacos and cant get enough of their salsa. Guacamole recipe could use some improvement, and burritos can get soggy so I stick with tacos, and the delicious pablano quesadilla, love to snack on the cebollitas.. tostada is also a winner. Overall really great drinks, tasty food, excellent service, good value... even better value at happy hour!

  • Christine L.

I want to love it here - really I do. It's one of the closer Mexican restaurants to our home, and I LOVE Mexican, but it's really just underwhelming. Sure there are menu items I can enjoy, but I find myself dousing so much of it with spicy sauce to make it more pleasing and more delicious. Prices are pretty much on par with other restaurants down this street, but I'm just not left "wowed" in any way. Margaritas are good and even better on happy hour. Maybe catch them then.

    (3)
  • Nicole P.

The tacos and margaritas are great, but avoid the guacamole and cheese dip. The guac is watery and the cheese dip is the consistency of mozzarella... It's very odd and congeals if you don't eat it within five minutes, so I'm not sure what's going on there. They have a great happy hour though, something like $4 or $5 margaritas and cheap tacos, so I'll be back.

So, we walk into Taqueria, and we are instantly greeted by a cheery employee. A nice, family-friendly Mexican place in Arlington. Taqueria has been serving amazing Mexican food since 2002. As a matter of fact, Taqueria has the best Margarita in Arlington award for 2014! Almost as soon as we sit down, we are greeted by a warm bowl of chips with some cool yet mildly spicy salsa. About two minutes later, a server arrives at the table to find out what we would like to drink. We recommend the Limeade. This is also a good time to order guacamole. About 3 minutes later, our drinks arrive, and it is time to order! Some of our favorites are The Tres Enchiladas, The Chicken Quesadilla, and the Tacos Al Carbon. Another favorite of ours are the Fish Tacos. Fifteen minutes later our food is out! Yummy! "Mmm, we love it!"

The food was okay, not great. I don't think this style "mexican" is very authentic at all. Pretty Americanized if you ask me. The service was so-so. We were slow to get drinks and refills. I would only go back to try the margarita that everyone talks about.

The service is great but the food is not. An unfortunate disappointment. I'm only speaking for the vegetarian food.

This update is for the demeanor of the manager. We have been regulars of this restaurant for years. We love their margaritas and tacos. Burritos are great too! However...per my last review referencing the music level...still so low you can barely discern as to whether they are playing a song or someone's ringer is on loud. Our last visit we asked that the volume be turned up on a Zac Brown song, which it was, and then immediately turned back down. We feel like we have to whisper here. To make a long story short, my fiance ordered a chicken burrito. He liked this place because they don't cook peppers and onions with their chicken. On this one occasion, there was a giant pepper in the middle of his burrito. He asked our waiter to speak to the manager about it. After waiting so long that all of our food got cold, he came over. Note that there were probably 10 other customers in the facility. He came over and said that they always cook peppers in the chicken. My fiance has ordered tacos from this place for years and never had any peppers and been told that they take them out before serving. The manager tells us they always cook peppers in with the chicken. Offers a new burrito. He agreed. Serves a new one with pico in it. Ignoring our original order: no pico. Agrees to take the burrito off. Our issue was with the attitude with which we dealt. I, myself, work in healthcare, and forever believe that the customer, or in my case, patient, is right. We were made to feel ridiculous and out of place. I stand fast by the fact that the reason this place is forever empty, is the lack of upbeat music, attention to the customer's needs, and standoffish attitude on the part of the managerial staff. I find it a shame, because, in general, the food and drinks are great, but we won't return to a place where the management is not friendly. We'll find ourselves at Cantina Mexicana from now on. Our server there was more than polite and prompt, however, this is the second time we went and our order of guac was forgotten. Too much drama, too boring, not enough consumer respect.

This place is really good. I love the margaritas!!! The guacamole is also a must have!! I had the steak tampequeno, and it was perfect! Cooked nicely, the beans, rice all good. The service at times can be slightly disappointing. You may be needing a drink refill well before they come check in you. Other than that sometimes, it's a great little place.

  • Laura E.

Disappointing all around. The service was lack luster and the owner/ manager was curt and unfriendly. The food was like microwaved items from Costco and the margaritas were just okay. Not worth the money we spent next we'll just walk on by and go to twisted vines.

The mother of all roller-coaster restaurants. Either really good or absolutely terrible. The only thing that's consistent here is that the AC is on full blast and it's 1/2 empty. The recipes are great - don't get me wrong. I drive past this place to get to their Mount Vernon location because although small - the food and service are always consistent. They need to figure out the problem and fix it ... New cooks? Wait staff? Who knows - I have yet to pinpoint the issue - but - I won't be back here. Too many "oops, we're sorry we forgot to cook/heat that".

Wasn't a fan of the margaritas. The chips and salsa could use some work. First and only time.

I've been to both the Columbia Pike and Del Ray locations. The food is pretty much the same at both. This location definitely has much more space. The service at the Del Ray location tends to be a little bit better. The big reason why I am giving a 4 star rating is because of the Adobe seasoned pork LA crispy tacos. For the love of all that is the perfect crispiness and pork goodness, this taco is amazing. It is so good that you will feel guilty after eating 2 of them because it miiight get a little greasy. I like the vibe of Taqueria Poblano but I wish their menu had a little bit more to choose from. There are about 20 choices on their menu but a lot of seems like repeats just worded differently. oooh they have brunch?? ....maybe i'll be back ;)

I will preface this review by saying I am a margarita snob, and eat a lot of tex mex food. The margaritas are to die for!! They are easily the best I've had in this area- and New Orleans or Houston TX aside, one of the best! Simple, cool, refreshing, they are always spot on. The queso dip is a wonderful go-to appetizer. It is a perfect amount to share, and has a delicious refried bean base, with oozing hot cheese and chorizo on top. Amazing! I typically follow the queso with a few shrimp tacos, which are paired with wonderful red wine vinegar-soaked onions, and a great sauce drizzle on top. Their rice and beans are a great addition to a meal as a side, and their lobster tacos are also quite delicious. If nothing else go for some amazing margaritas, chips and dip, and queso.

Columbia Pike continues its surge to becoming a dining option powerhouse with the addition of TeP. Like so many other Columbia Pike natives I too was looking forward to this establishment opening its doors. Went in on my lonesome on Sunday for a late lunch, sat at the bar. The service was friendly... too friendly... I felt like I had someone asking me about something every 5 seconds. The bartender was training someone new though and I understand that they just opened. Can't really fault them for being so nice I suppose, but let a man eat in peace, especially when it's tacos. I had a margarita, a chicken quesadilla, and a crispy chicken taco. The quesadilla was small and overpriced, while the taco was just overpriced. They were both good, but $3.95 for one taco? $7.95 for a quesadilla that's really just a soft taco shell folded over? I guess $12 for a meal isn't so bad, but I could have easily had another taco. So will I go back? I'm not going to say "no" but TeP surely won't be at the top of my list when it comes to options.

This has the same food as the Del Ray location, but is much easier to get a seat and parking. The food here is great if you get the right thing. The tacos are the best option. The crispy pork is the awesome, and the duck taco is also very good. I'm not the biggest fan of the fish taco, since I think their corn tortillas aren't that great. The mole is also pretty good. The salsa here is some of the best of any restaurant around here and you should have some cebollitas with every meal. Also use lots of habanero hot sauce.

If you are in Arlington, and if you are craving Mexican food than Taqueria Poblano on Columbia Pike is the place to go! They have delicious fresh tasting Mexican food. Every time I have eaten here I can tell that the food is homemade . The restaurant is clean, and the service is excellent. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Good chips and salsa. Service was also good - prompt and food came out fast. The tacos were too expensive for what I thought they were worth. I ordered the beef L.A. Style Taco ($3.95 each) and a Baja Fish Taco ($4.50 each). The tacos were too small and not incredibly delicious given the price.

You're kidding right? The Guacamole was straight up Wholy Guacamole with some diced tomato, onion and shredded lettuce ( way to stretch out a pre-mixed guac by adding lettuce INTO it... gross) mixed to it. It had that weird tang of shelf stable pasteurized avocado, it was not appetizing. I ordered the special, turkey and mole enchiladas.. oh boy I LOVE enchiladas and mole is my favorite so this was going to be good! WRONG! The sauce tasted like it was one of those just add water and stir "sauce" packets you get next to the taco seasoning and the packets of dried gravy mix in the grocery stores. It was brown watery oddy Chinese 5 spiced and left a coating on your tongue of uncooked spices and flour. It was so bad, I couldn't even eat it. I tried eating the "rice" that came with it and that was just as bad but the slaw was down right awful, it had a pungent factor that screamed bad produce... and your talking to someone who lives off of fermented foods like Kimchi and sauerkraut... this was NOT the good kind of fermented! We left hungry and went for frozen yogurt... I felt guilty paying for this meal, that's how unacceptable it was. I am truly shocked to see so many highly rated comments on here... shocking...

Total meh. As other reviewers have noted food wasnt particularly hot, though it mostly tasted good. Margarita tasted super watered down. I thought the ingredients they used had nice flavor (Poblado quesadilla and veggie taco), but there was nothing added to bring them out. I went in during happy hour at the bar and it was dead, so I did have a higher than normal expectation for service. But the bartender spent most of his time talking to one guy and I waited a lot, so I wasn't too thrilled with the service aspect either. I might go back, but probably won't. Cheap enough, but not worth the cost.

  • Chris S.

The service was reasonable and the food was good. I'm giving it 2 stars for two reasons. 1st (most important), the bar drinks were watered down. My Long Island Iced Tea had no flavor to it at all. My girl friends margarita was the same. We switched to beer for the second round. Second, the menu seemed limited. Not a bad menu but they did not even have Fajitas. I'll go back but it would be a matter of convenience not choice.

Consistently delicious, relaxed, best margaritas in town. Love all three locations, but CP is within walking distance. My husband is picky orderer, and they accommodate him every time wry great humor. Menu favorites are shrimp taco, taquitos, tamales, tortilla soup, lobster tacos, fish tacos and the tasty Mexican slaw. Out of town guests love our local hangout. I avoid the burritos. Love that they are local and independent.

Been here twice in two years. Both times good service but there is tastier, better quality, less expensive Mexican food on the pike.

I've only tried one item from here- lobster tacos. I wish they weren't just a special and that they served them everyday! It's made with rock lobster and the portions are fairly large for the price. Their house wines are decent and I love their salsa, too.

I really like Mexican food. Like really really like it. I'm from Chicago and I've always found that the Mexican food in the DC area is a little lacking. I had high hopes when Taqueria Poblano opened right near my apartment. In fact, I was thrilled - good mexican food at a walkable distance. Perhaps I made the mistake of ordering takeout but I just wasn't impressed. I ordered the guacamole, two California style beef tacos on soft corn, and chips and salsa. The guacamole was over-lemoned or limed or something. The overwhelming acid taste made it pretty commercial tasting. It didn't taste like real guacamole. The tacos were bland until I put on the sauces they provided - the salsa was the best one. They were also overstuffed (which I'm not complaining about!) but they only had one corn taco shell (soft) around it so it fell apart pretty quickly. The chips and salsa were fantastic though, so two stars for that and the quick service. Hope the place improves, but I don't think I will be back anytime soon,

we went on a sat afternoon and pretty much had the place to ourselves. do yourself a favor and try the LA style taco with beef. it was absolutely phenomenal. the shrimp taco I had was ok. a little lacking on fillings. we asked to split a margarita and were brought two separate glasses which I thought was nice- maybe my small town side showing there. overall a decent place to get Mexican although I thought the prices were a tad high.

We like to stop here on the way home from work for a drink and a quick bite to eat. My wife is not super psyched for their food mainly because the chicken is all poached and she's not much of a meat eater (otherwise). As for drinks and chips and salsa this place is perfect - never too busy at the bar and always friendly service.

The neverending search for the best Mexican food. Still ongoing... Taqueria Poblano is not bad but not great. I had the chile reyennos. They were both filled with cheese and no option to add chicken or beef to them. I enjoyed them very much and were cooked perfectly. One of my two was incredibly spicey. We had the Rayas Poblano as an appetizer. It was stripes of peppers and onions covered in cheese. This was something I have only every had once, in Mexico at a friends house for New Years, and was not the same as what was made. Not only was this very different that what I was expecting it was also very good. Now to hands down the most important part of the Mexican food expierence...the margarita. It was not sour and sugary. It was made not with mix, plenty of alcohol, and in my opinion is one of the better ones i've had. Service was good and food come quick. I will still be on the search for the best Mexican food but this can satisfy my craving when needed.

I really wanted to like this place. I was rooting for it - it's in my neighborhood (in what wants to be an up and coming Pike area) and it's not a chain. I've tried this place on three separate occasions, with the latest one being last night (10 months after my last experience) in hopes of having this place redeem it'self, yet it fell flat on it's face. The food is always lack luster. I've tried the quesadillas (might as well order off the kid's menu for a cheaper price; the portions are tiny), they were dry and lacked taste. The fish tacos were okay, nothing to be excited about. Last night, I ordered the Steak Tampiqueno, which was suppose to be a 5 oz. Rib-eye steak and it turned out to be more like a flank steak, that was over cooked (I ordered medium) and again, lacked taste! I tried drenching it in leftover salsa from the chip basket and couldn't force myself to eat it. My boyfriend had to order 2 quesadillas because the portions were so small. The terrible service we received last night was, unfortunately, not a surprise (it has been consistently terrible all three visits). The hostess greeted us immediately and she was very pleasant, but we were never greeted by our server or anyone from the dining room staff. We waited with our menus open just to be acknowledged, but no one came. At one point, a lady (I don't know if she was a food runner) walking by asked if we had ordered drinks. I told her no and she said she would get us water. The two waters never came and I was forced to get up up to tell the hostess that we still hadn't seen a server and we ordered our waters ~7-10 mins ago and never got them. The hostess was very apologetic and quickly searched the restaurant to gather an available waiter. We never got an "official" waiter. We got a hodgepodge of people that tried to help us even though the surrounding tables all seemed to have wait staff attending to them. Our orders were taken by the same lady that was suppose to bring us our water, our water was refilling by another person, when our food was delivered no one bothered to ask if we needed anything else. When we were ready for the check, we had to flag down a passing server to help us out. Someone else picked up our check and ran our card. Again, no one bothered to ask if everything was okay and if we needed anything else. It was poorly operated and the customer service reminds me of the local DMV office. The atmosphere felt like a library, there was no music playing the background and it seemed like everyone was afraid to talk of fear of other people hearing their conversations or echoing in the restaurant. I would not recommend this place and it's very unfortunate because it's walking distance from our house. We vowed never to return and waste another dime on an establishment that doesn't care about customer service, customer retention or the quality of their food.

After multiple recommendations from my hairdresser at Anne Welsh up the street, I popped in Taqueria Poblano with a few friends for dinner. We lucked out with seating on the patio since inside was a packed house. Service was fast and we quickly received our respective margaritas and beer. The margarita was great - didn't taste like the usual overly sweet sour mix. I went with the lime marinated steak tacos al carbon platter. The steak was super tender and flavorful. It came with rice and a huge serving of roasted peppers and onions smothers in melted cheese. Just enough for three healthy soft tacos. I did wish it came with a small side of beans. Everything else looked good ordered at the table - carne pequina and chile rellanos. Will definitely be back!

The first time I came here for dinner was a year ago. I went to lunch with my BF recently. We shared the queso. We waited forever for a server to deliver the chips! so when we dug into the queso, it was already congealed. We both got the shrimp and fish taco combo. We both liked the fish more than the shrimp taco since it came with a favored slaw and crema and had more flavor. The service was slow which is odd since there was about 2 other tables in the entire restaurant at the time. Not our favorite place to go for a Mexican meal.

Best way to describe this place is that there is a lot of potential. Came on a Saturday night and place was relatively slow so we were seated immediately. Ambiance was decent. We ordered the margaritas and got the chips and salsa. They were ok, but nothing the rave about. We came for the tacos and started with the Tacos Al Pastor. Immediate impression was that there was some decent flavors but it was very dry as if the filling had all been pre-made and sitting in a pot. That pretty much summed up the Duck Carnitas Tacos as well. Will give credit for the crispy taco as the shells were done well (though mine came broken in the middle). The fish tacos were also nicely fried, but too many competing flavors for such a light protein. Beef and chicken were moister and probably the best of the bunch. Overall, walked out not feeling we would rush to get back. There are better options for real street style Mexican food in the area.

Trying to break a recent streak of middle-of-the-road dining experiences, we stopped by this fairly new (to the neighborhood) restaurant on a rainy evening. Alas as you can see from my rating, this taqueria fell right in with the rest. The tacos al pastor on the appetizer menu seemed interesting but after our friendly waitress Amanda mentioned that they are pretty small, I decided to look elsewhere on the menu and settled on the fish taco and the duck carnitas taco. Holy run-on sentence batman. The fish taco had a ton of mexican slaw which overpowered the fish. The duck taco was definitely the better of the two. It came with a blob of guacamole and red onion escabeche gave it a nice crunch. My wife got the chile rellenos which were just luke warm.i.e. the cheese was peeling off the poblano peppers but the refried beans and the rice were decent. Our other dining companion (fellow Yelper Katie G) got the chicken in the green mole sauce but I didn't try that. We also ordered a round of margaritas with fresh lime juice. They came in a regular glass unlike the cocktail glasses that I had expected. It needed a little more of either the triple sec or the lime juice because the trademark sweet-sour taste of a margarita was very muted. Tl:dr - If I do stop by here again it will be to try the tacos al pastor. Nothing else on the menu tickled my taste buds.

My main gripe is the bar service. I don't know what's up with the bartenders here, but they are inattentive and almost reluctant to serve. The duck taco was bland. The best taco is the LA style beef taco. Fish taco was not memorable--you guys can do better!!! Dinner service is fast and polite. Will not go back due to poor bar tending staff.

Love this new location on Columbia Pike. So clean and spacious! We always sit at the bar. They make strong, quality margaritas with FRESH lime juice, not a nasty mix like some places do. They even sell the lime juice, incase you want to recreate the experience at home. Good queso and tacos. We typically have Tacos Carbon (steak or pork). Great Duck Taco as well. BRUNCH is to die for good, but your going to need a siesta after brunch if you start drinking margaritas at noon. :-) those in the know ask for the housemade Habanero Sauce to kick it up a notch or 2. Overall a great, affordable place for a weeknight meal and drinks.

Great Mexican place with great service! This Mexican restaurant has delicious margaritas and top-notch service. I've been here a couple of times and also love the salsa. The tacos and queso are also a must order. I have yet to try the brunch, but it looks delicious! Who doesn't love a breakfast burrito and juevos rancheros?!!

Been twice now, and enjoyed it both times. As you can see below, there are more pros than cons, so they're much closer to 4 stars than 2 for me, but the couple cons are biggies (at least for me) Pros: - Been very happy with the entrees. Got a mix and match of 3 tacos the first time, and they were all good - with the duck carnitas being great. Second time got the enchiladas, which I rarely order, but they sounded great and tasted even better. - Service has been extremely friendly and competent both times - The margaritas were really tasty, as well - The decor and atmosphere make it a fun place - I've heard the kid's menu is less than stellar, but there are so many regular things they could reasonably get - a taco, split a big burrito with someone, etc. - that we've had no issue Cons: - It's definitely a little pricey for the food you get, but I don't really mind paying a few extra bucks for a positive experience, which I've had both times. But it does prevent me from saying "you've gotta go, it's great food at a great price". - As has been said by others - the guacamole is an issue, and a pretty big one for me. It's edible, but nothing special. Meanwhile, it costs $6 for a tiny appetizer portion and no option for a side or add on for a couple bucks when ordering an entree (update: good news, I was told yesterday that they would do this. Although, I'm not sure for how much, or why it's not on the menu). Bottom line, I like this place and will continue to go back, but I honestly think if this place had District Taco's guac, it would have 3.5 stars instead of 2.5.

I had been to the other location in Arlington and wasn't impressed at the time, but since this location has just opened on the Pike, I decided to give it another try. The food was bland and extremely overpriced. The taste wasn't there and neither was the quality- everything just tasted stale and oily. The only good part was the attentive and friendly service. The only way I'd go back would be if they had a decent happy hour.

I was so excited about Taqueria Poblano coming to the Pike. Yes we have two tex-mex restaurants, but I'm always up for something new. We walked in about 6, and were seated immediately, though it was filling up fast. The decor is very well done - Southwest without being kitschy, and two walls lined with windows for great people-watching. The doorway has enough room for parents to leave strollers, which is nice so that the aisles of the restaurant stay clear. The bar is in the middle with a wall behind it, which breaks up the space nicely so it doesn't get too loud. But the food. Oh, heavens, the food! Bland; zero spice/hotness. The chips were stale, the salsa tasted like it came out of a bottle. There were two types of sauce on the table - a green sauce with zero kick, and a red sauce that tasted like the thickened taco sauce that comes in El Paso taco dinner kits. We ordered water, coke, and a Dos XX. The prices were completely reasonable - the draft beer was something like $4. Our table was constantly bussed by very attentive staff. Why so much bussing? Well we began with drinks, and then ordered taquitos, and one taco each. The taquitos had good meat but it was bland, but had a good crema drizzled over it. It came with guac and salsa, again, no spice save cilantro. My crispy beef taco was exactly the same, sans crema. My dining partner's baja taco was flavorless. We put a little Chalula on everything. We next ordered Mexican rice pudding. And that, my friends, was great! It came with lime wedges which surprisingly went really well with the pudding of rice and raisins. Overall we were disappointed with the taste of the food. The meat is cooked well, but without spice. Taqueria is good for drinks, as it has a bar with ample seating. And the service was beyond excellent - the wait staff was very attentive. The bill came to $30, which was excellent. But, unless I want drinks, I'll stick with the Guatamalan and Mexican alternatives a couple of blocks away.

We just can't get it right in this neighborhood and I don't know why. I wait 8 months to return to Taqueria Poblano to test it out again. Margaritas were good not great. Food continues to be overcooked and dry. I can make better Shrimp and Rice at home for starters. Everything tastes like 'rubber'. The menu is not complicated and wish they could make food 'with a little love and passion'. The decor is so pretty. They just need one good Chef. I guess William Jeffries is still the best option in this neighborhood if you are not craving Thai food.

I went here for breakfast on a Sunday morning right at 10am when they opened. We were one of 2 couples that were there and were placed at a window seat RIGHT by an AC blasting us. I was not a fan of that by any means. I was a fan of the fact they gave up chips and salsa while we waited for the food. Chips and salsa is amazing at any time in the day so I was a happy girl. I got the breakfast burrito - it could have fed a small family of 4. I took one bite and decided that I didn't want to actually eat the tortilla so I could feel better about eating more of the insides... It was deliciousssss. We also ordered the breaky tacos with chorizo! I had a bite of those and they were delicious as well! Lots of food and it ended up being $24 after tip for the 2 of us!

Walked past this place right after it opened. Being a lover of Tex-mex I finally had time to try it out yesterday. We were seated immediately. Even though the restaurant was almost empty they decided to put us right next to two families whose kids were having a screaming contest. I checked around to confirm that I wasn't at Chuck-E-Cheese but I was unable to locate a bouncing ball pit. The menu is very limited - not the place to come if you want to branch out and try something new. The chips and dip were average, nothing memorable about them which is never a good sign. My jaw dropped at the prices but I assumed the portions would be large and the food excellent for that price range. Needless to say I was sorely disappointed. I chose the three enchiladas which is always the platter I use to judge the quality of any Tex-mex restaurant. The enchiladas were tiny and bland. The guacamole scoop was tiny - it felt like they used a tea spoon to portion out this very rare and expensive substance. The service was decent. One nitpick, I was more than a little annoyed at the size of the glass of water I received. Maybe I was being punished for not spending money on a beverage but drinking out of thimble sized water glass made for a lot of refill requests and creates a lot of unnecessary work for the waiters. With so many better Tex-Mex options within a 15 minute drive I see no reason at all to drop any money here. The only thing that might keep this restaurant alive is its location. Time will tell.

My husband and I just moved into the building above TP and, both being HUGE fans of Mexican food, we were really excited for this place to open. In fact, I'm 5 months pregnant and salsa is the only craving I'm having and I was delighted to think all I'd have to do is just hit this place up to satisfy baby! But alas, we'd definitely agree with the other reviews so far. We're hopeful that the kitchen staff is just working out the kinks since they're brand new -- so we'd like to give it another try again someday soon to see if they've managed to improve. The food was so "meh" and for what we had, it was overpriced. Some examples from our experience: - The chips and salsa baskets are pre-made and kept in the fridge -- ice cold chips? Not great. Warm chips, cold salsa would be MUCH better. Plus, the servings were really tiny and we had to keep asking our server for more. - The guacamole is okay but lacks oomph...wish it had a bit more spice. - My husband's iced tea had a very strong chemical taste. When he told our waitress, she brought him a glass of water and said she'd take the tea off the bill. She should have brought him a new glass of iced tea or asked if he'd prefer something else to drink. It was weird. - I ordered the tostadas with chicken. I really didn't eat much of it...it just wasn't appetizing. I thought the chicken would be grilled chunks but it tasted much more like it came from a can. It wasn't even warm. The entire meal was buried under a bed of limp, shredded iceberg lettuce. - The jicama appetizer is cheap and fresh tasting. I suppose that would be hard to mess up. We got it at our server's recommendation and were glad we did. Because of the convenience of the location, we'll probably give it another try at some point, but it's hard to justify when I can quickly whip up better tasting tacos and salsa myself. Hoping the owners really focus on getting the food right -- they will have 2 very loyal customers if they do!!

This unassuming Mexican restaurant surprisingly has amazing food. I wasn't expecting greatness with the 3 star yelp rating, the quiet atmosphere and the limited menu. But the food was excellent and I will definitely return. I am beginning to realize that Yelp ratings of Mexican food in this area are completely skewed and not really representative of the food. Mind you that this is a Californian speaking and those LA style tacos actually are truly LA style and delicious. Flour tortillas stuffed with flavorful shredded beef, like taquitos and then loaded with cheese, a flavorful pico de gallo and lettuce. Serious YUM and even better with a little of the awesome house salsa. My husband ordered the chicken mole meal and I gotta tell you that mole was really interesting, it was green with a strong cinnamon flavor and very good. The salsa that came with the chips was fabulous, slightly fruity and a little spicy. Do youreself a favor and try this place out.

Wow, we had a BAD experience here. We were a party of 6 on a Wednesday night at 6:30, there for delicious Mexican food and margs. The disappointments started early when the margs tasted like salty, overly sugary water. Gross. At $6.50 each, they weren't cheap, either. I have to say, for a Mexican place the menu is really limited. There are only a few options, and the menu itself is actually really confusing. For some reason they have tacos listed in two places, a la cart and as a meal (although this isn't clear), and the waitress didn't advise my friend she was ordering 2 a la cart tacos and 1 giant taco meal. Needless to say, my friend didn't want 2 entrees. (We got them to take the second one off the bill when we complained, I will say that, but the waitress could have easily prevented that.) I was thirsty for almost the entire meal -- which lasted 3 hours because of such ridiculously slow service. My water glass was empty the entire time, and even when I asked for more water and chugged it down, the glass remained empty again for another hour. When we finally went to flag someone down (it was a dead restaurant) to pay the bill, the reply was that we "were talking," so apparently that means we weren't thirsty and didn't want to leave. The manager was rude. We paid about $35 each for 2 margaritas and 3 tacos each, including tax and tip. Luckily for the horrible waitress, the gratuity was included. This restaurant was extremely overpriced for the poor quality of food. My tacos were cold and flavorless, filled with meat and thrown together without seasoning. Tacos don't come with any sides even though they are each $4!! Very disappointing. I would never go here again -- especially not with so many other delicious Mexican options in Arlington.

My wife and I are big fans of Taqueria Poblano (both this location, and the other two). The food is consistently very good, drinks and service are good, and there is a vibrant atmosphere. Unlike many Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurants, the food seems very fresh, and not buried in sauces, cheese. or oil. Recently tried the lobster taco special, which was great. Highly recommend this, or their other locations.

This place is so awesome for Mexican food on the Pike. The value is great, the portions is superb, the taste is amazing. I could not make a complaint on the food here. it is good mexican food. The atmosphere is also pretty nice, decorated well and very nice. The only complaint I would have is they forgot my chips! But nonetheless a very great place, and it did not disappoint me. Highly recommend for when you want some good Spanish food.

I have been to this place twice. The first time I went was near midnight on a weekend when their kitchen was about to close. So I gave the horrible food benefit of doubt, also given the fact that they have good rating at yelp. Upon my fiancee's insistence we went there again (he loves their margaritas which has like huge ratio of tequila - apparently the only good thing they serve). This time we went right at dinner time at about 9PM but to my dismay, the food was dismal still. Nothing tasted good. Salsa was horrible. Burritos were bad. Fajitas were stale. The beans in burrito were grinded into a paste and mixed in rice and salsa, and that's all that burrito had. The place doesn't have good ambience either. It seems very dark and murky. I would never go there even though I stay extremely close to this place and I love Mexican food. But trying out this place was clearly a mistake.

I am a regular at the Taqueria. Living right upstairs makes it an easy and delicious meal. My favorite is the tostada with pork or chicken. A close runner up are the nachos. Personally, I am not a huge fan of their burritos, but there are a lot of other great menu items. One time they had crab quesadillas which I still dream about at night. I think it was a seasonal item, but I check every time I go. Shamelessly I am a lush when it comes to their chips and salsa. I can polish off my own basket before they even come back to take my order. I won't apologize for it either. They are that good. I might eat there because as much as I do because of the convenience, but even then, I still recommend to people when they come to town. The wait staff is nice and helpful.

First of all, the people who work here are some of the nicest of any restaurant in the area. Its atmosphere is festive and the decor is bright and colorful, with a couple tv's a lot of booths and small tables, and about 10 seats at the bar. The drinks are great (especially the margarita and bloody mary - they mix them from scratch and they are no overly acidic or watery), and they give you some delicious salsa and chips right away. Their food isn't spicy, but I always ask for their awesome homemade hot sauce, which adds some heat and nice pepper flavor. The tacos I've had were a little bit disappointing, because I felt like they should have more meat for the price, but the enchiladas and brunch dishes are filling. I recently had a wonderful seafood soup, which was a daily special. It was filled with a variety of seafood, in a light creamy cilantro tomato sauce. They don't always have it, but next time I see it on the menu, I'll order it again. They serve a couple brunch dishes on Saturdays and the full brunch menu on Sundays.

I dig this place. You can find better Mexican food around but Taqueria el Poblano has some good things going for it. Very decent margaritas, cheery, local atmosphere and crispy LA tacos. Stick to the basics and you'll do just fine.

Went here for brunch had Huevos Mexicano can't say the food was very good mushy chorizo and egg and the serving size was smaller than expected. I'm not sure if the beans are from a can ? And I'm positive the tortillas are store bought. This is a common issue of Mexican restaurants in northern VA the food is usually not very good. On a positive note the server was nice.

I've been to this location a few times. I love the margaritas - they use fresh squeezed limes so the margarita is tangy without being overly sweet. yelp.com/biz_photos/taqu… The margaritas are what keep me coming back and what gets Taqueria Poblano 3 stars. The salsa that is served with the complimentary chips is rather bland for my taste, but my friend thinks it is spicy - to each their own I guess. I've only ever ordered the tacos at this location. I've had the tacos al pastor and the fish tacos. Both are good, but neither are my favorite tacos in town. The pork in the tacos al pastor could use some more seasoning and the last time I had it, it was over cooked. yelp.com/biz_photos/taqu… The crema, slaw, and pico de gallo that are served on the fish tacos blend together for a creamy and crunchy taste that balance the grease from the fried fish, but I prefer fish tacos where the fish isn't breaded. When you go to Taqueria Poblano, I highly recommend asking for their habanero sauce, it is served in a small squeeze bottle and adds the heat that I find lacking.

Definitely not my most preferred Mexican restaurant in the area but they serve up some decent tacos and margaritas. Whenever I come here, I usually get three LA-style crispy tacos, either adobo-seasoned pork or Chile-braised shredded beef. The Baja fish taco, which is beer-battered and fried Mahi-Mahi, is delish too. So is their duck carnitas taco, which is lime-marinated roast duck. I've also had their burrito and it's not bad, but I prefer the tacos. Margaritas are good; they use triple sec and silver tequila and a fresh lime, no margarita mixes. Come during happy hour and you'll get it for half the price. It's a good blend of sweetness and tartness. This is a suitable place to grab some dinner and pre-drinks before hitting up TNT Bar a couple doors down the block. Food comes pretty quickly and it's a good place to just chill. There's plenty of parking in the garage behind the restaurant if you can't find street parking. This is a kid-friendly place and popular hangout for adults too.

Cyndy's BOTTOM LINE: the food is better at the other locations. I had the following: Taqueria margarita is made of fresh lime juice, triple sec,& silver tequila - delicious! Great margarita, loved the fresh lime juice which makes a difference. Tres Enchilada one each of beef, chicken, & pork with cheese, & red chile sauce. Served with rice, refried beans and guacamole. The chicken enchilada was the best of all the three. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The rice and refried beans were good. Price point is reasonable.

Does Taqueria Poblano pass the "would I rather have Taco Bell" test? Not quite. I thought the Del Ray location was so-so and the new Columbia Pike location takes it down a notch. Guacamole, too much citrus and came out too quickly to be made fresh. Cold temperature definitately indicates pre-made, even if it was house-made from the restaurant. Taco al Pastor, Duck Carnitas, and Fish Tacos ... all of the meat was overcooked. At $3.50-$5.50 prices per taco, I expect something more. 3 99-cent tacos would have been more satisfying (given its high fat content) than this. To Taqueria's credit, the chips and salsa were pretty decent but that's akin to saying Red Lobster is a decent restaurant based solely on its cheddar biscuits. Pedro & Vinny may have been a better option down the street. District Taco would've a preferrable option. [Original Visit: July 21, 2012]

OMG food was basically Taco Bell quality. My tostada looked like a pile of mush and all the same color. And 12 bucks! First time in a decade I sent food back and did not reorder anything. My friend warned me the food was bad but I didn't listen.

Phenomenal fish tacos. Great location on Columbia Pike. Pretty safe neighborhood with outdoor seating which is great on warm summer nights. They have multiple mexican dishes however I love their Baja fish taco as well as their LA taco, which is pork or steak. Their tortillas are soft with the perfect touch of crispiness. Food comes out quickly as well. Best taco joint in the DC metro area hands down. Tacos are around $3.50 a piece. Well worth the price. "Friday Taco Nights" are a mainstay during the summer.

I love Mexican food. I would even consider myself a Mexican Food snob; however I do appreciate Tex-Mex as well. This place was far from Mexican and if you were to consider it Tex-Mex, it must be the worse Tex-Mex on earth. Chipotle has better burritos than this place. I almost felt disrespected when they brought my cold food over to me... like do you really expect me to eat this? The food is out of a Elementary School Cafeteria. My niece could make it with no adult supervision. And although the waitress was nice, she was also very clueless. After getting my order wrong and bringing me cold food, she never did anything to rectify the situation. I would never eat here again. I am convinced that anyone who gave this place more than 3 stars may have some financial tides to this restaurant, may have a non-functioning palette, or just doesn't know what good food should taste like.

I ordered take out and had three tacos: Baja Fish Taco (pretty good, would of been better if the fish wasn't as dry), Shrimp Taco (yummy!), and LA Style Crispy Taco w/ chicken (the best of the bunch). Overall the food was pretty good, though pricey for the smaller portions. The decor was nicely done and felt lively at the bar. The hostess and staff were very welcoming. On my way out, I saw the sign for happy hour. I'll def will make a return trip for some cheaper drinks and tacos.

I went there with my husband and sister. She had a quesadilla and taquitos, my husband had a burrito and I had Tacos al carbon. In short, the food was horrible. The price wouldn't be so bad if the food was good. My sister's taquitos were dry. They seem burnt and not much flavor to them. The Quesadilla was ok. Nothing exciting and the cheese was simple.I ordered the steak tacos and the meat they used was very low quality. I would say 80% or more of the meat was fat. I couldn't even chew it. The same goes for my husband's burrito. Very low quality meat and lacking in taste. This was not Mexican food. I wouldn't even call it Tex-Mex. It imitation Tex-Mex. Now I will say, the service was great! Everyone is very friendly and we were seated as soon as we came in. Nice atmosphere too. My sister and are former California residents so we are very picky about the Mexican food we eat but this food was terrible. I would give this place one star but the fact that everyone is so nice there is forcing me to give them 2 stars.

Another local restaurant on my street. Good Fish tacos and customer service. Their breakfast is really good, have tried several plates and they are consistently good. Let's support the Pike!!

A sit down restaurant with a a fast food chain vibe. The service is amazing, the staff is so nice and attentive, unfortunately that is the only reason it gets 2 stars. My spouse ordered enchiladas, my son had a quesadilla and I had a vegetarian tostada. The food came out within minutes of placing the order on plastic plates (they went well with the vinyl table cloth). Our food was barely warm and had a microwaved look and texture and everything was so bland. I'm so disappointed, we have been looking forward to the opening of this restaurant for months.

Not impressed. Just like my experience at the OTHER location down in Del-Ray...this place just misses. There are simply too many GOOD south-of-the-border eateries in Arlington for this place to even be relevant. I guess it appeals to folks that prefer a more "accessible" & commercial feeling atmosphere... But the food leaves much to be desired. High prices, mediocre quality and taste. We were excited to have another option in the neighborhood....but we'll stick to our other haunts.

I went here for lunch and it is a very nice looking place. The staff that we dealt with was very friendly and helpful. The food was overpriced, but given the location of the place it fit the demographic. I ordered enchiladas and even though there weren't horrible I felt like something was missing. The complementary chips were good, but the salsa was too mild. There was not even a slight hint of spice to it. I did add a little hot sauce, but the hot sauce wasn't the spicy kind just more of a flavor additive. It is the same stuff they put on the tables at Ihop. When you start taking salsa picante tips from a place that exclusively sells pancakes I'm allowed to question your judgment. When you go out somewhere that serves Mexican cuisine it is only right that you order guacamole. The guac here was...strange. Not bad, but also not really tasty. It threw me off a little because the plating was weird. I was a decent size mound of guacamole on a small plate with a circle of like 6 or 7 random sized chips sticking out. I felt like it didn't add anything, except the illusion that maybe someone was digging into you green goodness before they brought it to you. Overall, I'd say that place wasn't bad, just Meh?

The BF and I have been patiently waiting for this place to open so we headed on over last week to try it out. As the 3-Star description says, it was A-OK. I ordered shredded beef and duck carnitas tacos. Shredded beef was good, though I had to brush a bit of lettuce off it. Duck carnitas was "eh." I was expecting shredded meat and the BF thought the guacomole might have overpowered it. BF ordered a taco platter and was left yearning for more to eat. We had one drink each (margarita and sangria), and had a plate of guacomole too. (I thought the guacomole was tasty, if not overpriced.) Our total bill was $45, pre-tip. For that price, I can eat more than I can handle at El Paso down the street. We may be back, but probably if we're feeling too lazy to venture far from home.

Happy hour is good here for the drinks. The food is decent but there are better Mexican places (tho its slim pickings in the DMV) Service is good and margaritas are yummy! Fish tacos are good

Tops for Mexican in Arlington County. I've been to both the Delray and Columbia Pike locations both have the same type of food. My favorite is the Duck carnitas. They are fresh and filled with plenty of duck, guacamole , tomatoes, onions and have a great limey marinade. The food here is fresh not greasy. The Columbia Pike location is bigger and has more seats so it's easier to get a place to dine. The staff is quick and efficient. The chips and salsa are tasty and bottomless. As many know I am picky and not easily pleased. That said this is absolutely my favorite Columbia Pike new restaurant.

Food might be 3.5, but great margaritas and intangibles make it a 4. Margaritas are sour mix-less. Just lime juice and tequila basically. And strong. None of that queazy feeling from too much sugar. If not the in the mood for a high octane drink, their NA lime cooler is really good too if you give it a few shakes of simple syrup. The intangibles....walkable from where I live won't matter for others, but the servers are always friendly and attentive and it's locally owned should be reasons to bump their rating. The food is defintiley not bad, it's just that the menu is somewhat limited, and I personally think their burritos are a bit too beany. Lately my go tos have been the Califronia style tacos, which started out a little greasy at their CP location but have gotten better as time has gone on. Also, both the chicken and steak tacos al carbon are usually very good. I personally really like their chips and salsa too, but I think some people might find it either too watery, or just a little different if they're salsa snobs.

I have eaten at Taqueria many times since they opened their restaurant on the Pike. I have never been disappointed. The food is filling and great tasting. I particularly like the crispy chicken and beef tacos. For those of us who like a little more heat, they have a great Habanero hot sauce. The staff is attentive and friendly. The margaritas are the best around. You really couldn't do better for a neighborhood Mexican cafe. Taqueria is a welcome addition to the Pike.

Went here for dinner and won't go back because it doesn't come close to Uncle Julio's or Mexicali Blues in food or value. The guacamole tasted like the kind you get pre-made at the grocery store. And the 3/4 cup serving was hardly worth the $5 we paid. I'm fairly certain the chips were not homemade either. The quesadilla was way overpriced...super small with nothing on the side. Service was good but the ambience made me feel like I was in a fast food restaurant not a sit down.

I've been to this location three times and the one in Alexandria once. I keep trying this place hoping to find a dish I like. I've had the shredded beef burrito, chicken tacos and chicken taquitos all of which were bland and dry. My food never comes out all that hot, just slightly warm. They give you free chips and salsa which isn't that great.

TP is a very short walk from my new apartment so I visited for dinner last weekend. I wasn't particularly in the mood for Mexican--it was my bf's idea--but I'm so glad I went along with it. I had the chicken quesadilla and it was so good, and very filling. I love the shredded chicken they use. It's fresh, moist and flavorful. The salsa they bring with the free chips is awesome and different from most places. My bf had a chicken burrito which was huge, also delicious, and enough for several meals. The margaritas are the real deal, not made with sour mix (I will have nothing to do with those). I'm sure we will frequent Taqueria Poblano and I'm so glad it's on the Pike.

Since moving to NoVA from Austin, Texas more than 6 years ago, I have been trying to find a place in the area that serves up good Tex-Mex food, and in my opinion, Taqueria Poblano has the best. The portions are also huge, so this place is a very good value for the price. I have been to the Columbia Pike location several times, and I have even introduced several of my friends, and they have all gone back again. Their chips and salsa are great; the salsa tastes fresh and a little more spicy than other places. Margaritas are also very good. As far as the entrees, I have only tried the Chile Braised Beef Burrito al Arriba and the Green Chile Pork Burrito al Arriba. They're both very good, but I prefer the Chile Pork Burrito. For dessert, my friend and I once shared the Mexican Rice Pudding. We both liked the pudding, but I would recommend ordering it a la mode with vanilla ice cream on top just to give it a little more sweetness. I recommend Taqueria Poblano for anyone who is looking for a good hearty Tex-Mex meal , or even for someone who just wants to a happy hour with some chips and salsa to snack on.

The original one in Del Ray is the best, but this one has promise. Give them a few more weeks to work out the kinks. Try the baha fish taco or the chicken tostada.

I've come here a few times for the happy hour and had a really fun experience. Nice bar tenders, good deals, the cebollitas are tasty and cheap, happy hour tacos are also a great deal. We went here for brunch and had a really underwhelming experience that clouded my whole view of the restaurant. I had the huevos rancheros, and I can't remember the name of what my wife had. But both came out and looked, and tasted like the food came out of a can (except for the eggs, obviously). I'm used to huevos rancheros with lots of fresh onions, tomatoes, maybe some guacamole...but this was just kind of a salty mass produced meal. For 8.50 I could have made a much better version at home. I ate it because I was paying for it. If they are going to have a brunch I highly recommend they put more effort into the quality of their food. We decided to stop in on our way to the farmer's market, and if you are looking for food that is freshly made or uses top ingredients... I would go somewhere else. Fun place for HH, though.

Cali-Mex!! yum!!! Get the duck taco and the fish taco and anything on the specials menu. If you want it spicier just add hot sauce silly.

Food is okay. Salsa is amazing. We have been in a handful of times to get the fish tacos. But- tonight made me not want to return. My boyfriend ordered a shrimp taco and the last two bites had pieces of skewer in them. One could be a mistake- but 2 was enough to say something to the waitress. I used to work in the restaurant industry and I would have expected more of an apology than we received. The manager came over after we requested to see him. He let us know that the cooks must have left the skewers in by accident. No apology or anything. I didn't even want a free meal- just a decent apology. I would go back for drinks and salsa.

Every time I've been here I've had friendly and fast service, the wait staff is great which is a plus since I always have a toddler with me. They're more than happy to bring him extra napkins or tortillas gratis, as the need arises. The food is good, it comes out hot, and the margaritas are tasty. I didn't find them watered down. It's not Mexican food like I got back in Oklahoma, but it hits the spot and I've found its not easy to find good Mexican/TexMex food in this area and they do a good job. Best part of this place is the staff and the fact it's very family friendly, so we keep coming back!

Good place to grab Mexican food, but prices are just a tad high for what you get. For example, $5.95 per taco and $12 for a glass of Sangria. Food was alright but would not go out of my way to go back there especially with so many good places in the Pike.

Oh, I was soooo excited to have this place open within walking distance of home! The first bad sign was the little basket of chips they bring to each table -- stale, cold, store bought. But that was nothing compared to the rock-hard -- and I mean break-your-teeth rock-hard -- tasteless wonder of a tortilla chip at the bottom of the tostada. The tostada was a complete disaster: they bring out a plate heaped with so much shredded lettuce, we're talking six to eight inches high of shredded lettuce, there isn't a way for you to even "dig in" to it or poke around at it to find the tiny clump of guacamole or to get a sliver of the shredded cheese. The rock-hard tortilla at the bottom is slathered in canned refried beans, and the "dressing" that held it all together had such grotesque flavors it actually ruined the whole thing. Someone else pointed out the seating even though the place wasn't full -- for some reason they chose to sit a couple elbow-to-elbow with me, and it was excruciating clear the poor couple had hoped to have just a tiny bit of privacy in the sprawling empty spaces. I quickly put them out of their misery, because it wasn't worth trying to continue eating the pile of shredded lettuce; I asked for the check instead. The wait staff seem so nice. This place coulda been killa. It's in a fabulous location with a lot of foot traffic.

Over priced, bland food. Not sure if they don't know how to cook Mexican food or just any food at all. Its not the worst Mexican I've ever had but pretty close. They might want to improve by offering warm chips.

I was really excited that this was opening up in my neighborhood in Arlington because I had been to the one in Del Ray a couple times. I have to say that I was a little disappointed. I first went with my roommate and we just ordered tacos and beers. They got my order wrong but were happy to fix it. Then I came back with my family a couple weeks later. I chalked up the first experience to the fact that they just opened but I was blown away by the second experience either. I know this is strange to complain about but the water glasses were super small. After two sips my glass would be empty. I feel like the waiter had to stop by over 20 times just to keep us semi-satisfied. I also wasn't blown away by the food. I would still say it would be a nice place to get a cold drink in the summer, but I would go out of my way to eat here.

This place is without a doubt one of the worst food experiences I've had in awhile. Hopefully the worst I'll have in 2013. The service was fine. But the food - WOW. The salsa is a weird orange-y brown color. And the guac was yellow and tasted extremely citrusy - as though they were trying to cover up the lack of avocado in it. I ordered the veggie burrito which tasted ok until I had eaten about 1/3 of it, and then it started to taste extremely foul and I couldn't eat anymore (also, the first burrito that was served to me was cold, so I was given a second). My boyfriend had the chili relleno plate, and he who feels bad wasting food and always cleans his plate, didn't eat the entire thing. We also had a margarita each - though strong, they couldn't save the meal. The experience was so awful that we got into a fight during and after the meal. And the bill was $65. Every ounce of me was in pain as I handed my credit card over for this crap. Never again. I'd rather eat Taco Bell.

Taqueria el Poblano just opened up along the emerging Columbia Pike Corridor which luckily is walking distance from my house. The lady friend and I have been anxiously watching the construction and waiting for this place to open and were excited to see the doors opening last week. Decided to try it out on a rainy Monday and I'd have to say that maybe we should have given them another week or so to get their feet on the ground. The service was friendly and seemed to be knowledgeable. The atmosphere was great, not too noisy but seemed inviting. Food wise, it was the typical Americanize Mexican food reminiscent of El Paso down the street. The only differences is the portion size per the price, which may be the big fatty American in me but if I'm paying $14 for tacos I want to have to loosen the drawstring on my sweatpants.

They get 5 stars for their margaritas! I really like the freshness (no mix) - the way a good margarita ought to be! I think they're the best 'ritas in Arlington. The service is also 5 star. If they had fresh guacamole, fresher tasting chips, & offered fried plantains they would get 5 stars. The guacamole NEEDS to GO! If you're a legit taqueria then you must do it the right way. The guac I make is worlds better than this stuff. No pre-made tubs of guacamole will have you taken seriously. The same goes for mixing sour cream into it - total faux pas. I had the veggie burrito (very good!). It could use something for extra flavor... maybe cilantro, more onion... not quite sure? Other than that, keep up the good service & great margaritas!

Went and had a great dinner for three people. The server was extremely fast and he refilled our chips and salsa as soon as the basket was depleted. We ordered a chicken tostada salad which is huge, a chicken burrito (also huge) and the grilled lobster tacos and draft beers. All three entrees were really tasty, but the grilled lobster tacos were especially delicious! We were too full to order dessert. Maybe next time we will. The manager was very gracious and was checking to make sure the customers were happy. Glad Taqueria Poblano is close to home. Another note is that the tables are not too close together some other restaurants.

Taqueria Poblano is a great place to go enjoy Mexican food. The ambiance is comfortable and has a convenient location. The staff is very helpful and accommodating, and serve freshly baked chips with salsa as a complimentary appetizer before the meal. The food is authentically Mexican and very tasty, but more options on the menu would be preferred. Overall, however, eating at Taqueria Poblano makes for a great experience!

The husband and I randomly popped in for a quick meal. It's a hole in the wall with decent prices. I got the bean and cheese burrito, it was good. Hubby got the same but with the works, he really enjoyed it. The only down side is...it was crowded and we were so cramped. The inside is really colorful, makes me feel like i'm in LA, FL or Mexico.

I LOVE Mexican food so naturally when this place opened up, I tried it out. The food is good--I wouldn't say it's anything above and beyond other Mexican restaurants, but I will say the staff there are incredibly friendly and the house salsa there is the BEST salsa I've ever had. I would go back here again and again for the house salsa alone. Give it a try--it's a good place to eat.

This place is my taco go-to. I've been a huge fan of the Del Ray Taqueria for years, and the new Columbia Pike outpost is even better. It's nice and big, with a great bar area. Their happy hour is fantastic - $5 house margaritas & $2.50 LA style-crispy tacos = awesome. Their chips and salsa are always fresh and tasty. The service is decent and I've never had a hard time being seated. My personal faves: house margarita (they make their own mix fresh so it's wonderful), adobo chicken crispy taco, vegetarian mix crispy taco, tacos al pastor. Shrimp taco is also decent. If you're in the mood for dessert you can't go wrong with their chocolate fritters with vanilla ice cream. Not sure if they do the occasional dessert special of dark chocolate tequila sorbet, but if so it's definitely a must-try. Their brunch is also stellar. I always get a tequila sunrise and a breakfast burrito with chorizo added in. YUM!!!

Much easier to get a seat than in Del Ray due to size. Staff is friendly. One of the bartenders is fantastic. Food has some bright spots (Guac is terrific (I like a lot of lime), Rajas Poblanos also good) but preparation is hit or miss (During my last visit, my refried beans had no flavor whatsoever) and menu is in need of a refresh or just a couple of new additions, especially for vegetarians. Giant burritos are awesome, but giant burritos full of mostly just refried beans are extremely boring. #1 thing that would make this great besides new menu items- soundtrack. What comes out of the speakers is very specific- overplayed 70s classic rock, including live songs. You could seriously make a drinking game out of guessing what comes next - Led Zep, Clapton, Lynyrd Skynrd, Pink Floyd. Rinse, repeat. Maybe for the game you could even guess the songs, because they're that predictable. Anyway, my tastes aside, the music is tired and too specific. Some variation in menu and soundtrack would go a long way.

My husband and I are huge fans of this place. We recently moved nearby and have already stopped in three times. The decor is nothing fancy, but it is very welcoming. We've never had trouble getting a table, though it is usually busy around dinner time. I'm a fan of the fish and shrimp tacos. Chicken nachos are also great, and their rajas poblano is also excellent. Their homemade salsas and habanero sauce are both worth the trip. Their margaritas are great, well balanced citrus and tequila. They could use a wider beer selection, but it's not really what you go to a Mexican restaurant for. The portions are small, but I actually prefer them that way, and they are very satisfying. Everything seems priced well.

i was looking forward to another new restaurant on the Pike, but unfortunately, this one was just average... The chips were cold, but the salsa was a little different and surprisingly good. My girlfriend ordered the carne asada special - the meat was far from lean and not well seasoned. I ordered the 3 tacos ... they were o.k., but simply average.... both entrees came with a scope of guacamole, but it was just o.k., tasted like it had a little to much lime juice. i've had better from pre-packaged Wholly Guacamole... i may try it again, but with all the choices on the pike TP will be playing catch-up.

We live in the neighborhood and decided it was time to try our new mexican restaurant. Ive lived here 25 years and have to be honest and say its the worst mexican food I've ever had, ever. The person who served us was very pleasant so no complaint there. We both ordered the burrito beef al arriba. The shredded beef had a very strange taste and the crema was not sour cream, at least it didn't taste like it. It was watery. The guacamole tasted so lemony that i had to take it off my meal, it could not have been fresh made......awful. There are no other sides that come with the burrito like rice, those are extra. One thing that struck me as very odd is that they were playing rock music (Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi etc....), don't get me wrong, I love this type music but I do enjoy the traditional mexican music playing in the background when I go to a Mex restaurant. I am originally from Arizona so maybe I'm just being picky, but I think not. Atmosphere is sort of fast food like, didn't enjoy it at all. Finally, our bill was $32 which we thought was a bit pricey for what we got. Chips and salsa were good. I will not go back again. I recommend the Rio Grand Cafe or the El Paso Cafe here in Arlington, or Taco Bell is good in a pinch. Sorry, I just didn't enjoy the experience at all.

Wanted to really like the place since it looks to be a great addition to Columbia Pike. Liked the margaritas, didn't think service was good (got wrong order handed to us by a runner and then had to ask host to find our server) among other things. The food was so-so. Not that flavorful and kind of bland. Too bad. Glad I tried it though.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
