I've been wanting to eat here ever since sampling their beer at the Utah Beer Festival last summer and I finally got my chance. My husband and I started with pints of the honey wheat, which we both love. I ordered the Gorgonzola Bacon Burger, which was delicious and priced right at $9.50. The bun was soft but held up nicely with the patty, bacon, melty gorgonzola, and other toppings. The fries were really good, too. My mom ordered the Roosters Enchiladas, which she really enjoyed, and my husband loved the Tuscan Beef Medallions. Another thing that I really appreciated was that we could order a sample of any beer for 50 cents, which is a nice way to try other brews, although you can't go wrong with the honey wheat. We split the bread pudding for dessert and it was to-die-for. The location is nice and conveniently located near I-15. We went on a Saturday night and the wait was only about 20 minutes, which was nice.

We order take out from Roosters all the time. There pizza is the BEST; Chicken Carbonara, Margherita, Steak Fajta! There Hummus Platter is AWESOME as well.

Awesome food, service, and beer!!! The servers are friendly, prices are reasonable, and the food rocks!! If your looking for a good meal in layton, roosters is the place!!

Love this place! Great atmosphere, great service, and great beer. The onion rings are some of the best I've tried, the burgers are pretty standard for a pub restaurant. I definitely return here for the beer, best around the Layton area (that I've tried so far). Favorites are Niner Bock and Diamondback Ale.

I really wanted this place to be good but it was a total bummer.... Pros Our waitress was great The place was nice and clean Cons Beer was warm Ordered fish tacos - mushy& bland rice flavorless and uncooked beans Ordered Naughty Fries- was expecting a wow factor but all it was fries n 3dipping sauces Disappointed will never Go again, should have gone to get a burger instead ;(

Ordered chili chips n salsa, Tuscan steak sandwich and gorgonzola ale soup. Homie got pepper jack pasta. The chili chips and salsa were nothing spectacular. It was good but mediocre is nothing special to me. The gorgonzola ale soup though was something I will never forget! It was so darn good that I wish I would have just got a bowl of it instead of a cup. It tasted like something that I have never had the pleasure tasting before. I cannot describe it but my tastebuds where amazed! The tuscan sandwich was actually pretty good except the foccacia bread fell apart after two bites. So instead I ate this as a salad and skipped the bread. My homie liked the pepper jack pasta and said the shrimp was utterly amazing but the rest of it was, "blah". I feel like this place could have been a whole lot better. If the food would have tasted better or not have fell apart I would have gave it another star. Sorry Roosters! Inner Fat Kid says: Give me the soup and take the rest back!

I attended a private wedding reception here recently, and I was really impressed by the food and the space they set aside for the party. Some things could have been better I felt with set up, it wasn't really conducive to the party atmosphere, rather it felt like we were all broken down into individual tables of 6, with no great way to roam around congratulating and meeting people. There was also no space set aside for placing gifts, which I thought was really odd for a reception. I had a salad with some kind of pesto-y tasting dressing to start, and I ate salmon with mashed potatoes and veggies for my main course. It was all very tasty. I didn't see a menu for the restaurant so I don't know if these are dishes typically offered or if it was specifically for the wedding. I liked their system of designating who ordered what so there was minimal invasion of conversation. The bread pudding for dessert was to die for!! So, so, so good, and no nuts. Yay for me being able to eat it! One annoying thing - they were super slow to refill water and bring drinks ordered. I saw a tray of beer and wine sitting on a table for a good 20 minutes before someone picked it up and started taking the drinks around to those who ordered them. I'd like to come back and give this place a try on a regular night.

I was in Layton, Utah for a real estate conference. I always love eating in Utah. They have some great restaurants there and Roosters is no exception! The food and service are always good. They have some great beer options. And it's walking distance from the Davis Conference Center. The view outside is of snow capped mountains in the winter and early spring.

Had the Fish Taco's and they were outstanding, generous helping of fish with plenty of add on's available, would absolutely order them again. Pepper Jack Shrimp had a good bold taste when combined with the Louisana Hot Sauce. Beer was fresh and flavorful. Would dine here again in a heart beat.

Their beer is excellent, except for the small detail of it being 3% alcohol. Do you have any idea how many of those it takes to get a good buzz? Even if you get the 25 oz beers it takes awhile. An interesting side note...because of utah's silly laws I am able to order 2 16 oz beers at a time, but if you get a sampler you can still only have 2 at a time. The burger was solid and I really liked the green chili quesadillas. The prices on their food was a little high, but the cheap beer more than makes up for it. This place is definitely worth your time.

I came here to eat with a group of about 30 for a small banquet and they were able to accommodate us. The customer service was friendly and they were pretty consistent with keeping up with the latecomers of our group. So, this is definitely a good place for fairly large groups of people. The food is decent and everyone will find something to make them happy. Nothing super spectacular, but they do have some interesting items here and there that you won't normally find in your own kitchen. Overall, this place is a keeper when you're in the area.

I hate writing this because I love the food and atmosphere. But when we went in to your Layton location for a meal a glass of water was spilled and a few ice cubes fell by the table. Instead of it just being cleaned up like it wasnt a big deal, one of the waitresses walked past and said "Someone needs to clean this up ...before somebody dies. Hopefully them" and motioned to our table. I want to continue to go to Roosters but now I need to worry about death threats from waitresses. I posted a comment on your Facebook wall when this happened to see if your company would try to rectify the situation but it was just deleted

Asian wrap had black moldy lettuce, bread was a old and stale, food was brought out before apps were finished, capellini was watery, bread pudding was burnt.

Great food, great beer, and great service. This place awesome. I had a few of the bottled IPAs and prime rib. Best meal I've had in a few weeks for sure.

My wife and I love this place. The prices are great, and the food is better. The Hummus is a great way to get your meal started. The pepper jack shrimp is also a great dip as an appetizer. When we go we with either get the hummus or shrimp appetizer. The sandwiches are very good. The Salmon Salad is also very good. The service is great and they will fix your meal if something is wrong. The wait can get long on the weekends so I would recommend getting there at 6 pm or earlier. I do not drink alcohol so I can not give an opinion on that. However, those that do drink say it is fantastic. There s a Roosters in Ogden and Layton Utah. If you can get to the Ogden one on 25th Street. This was the first one and the atomosphere is better.

Best buffalo wings I have ever had. ever. I crave going here just for the buffalo wings. I have never craved something so much (food wise). They make their own root beer and orange cream soda. Tastes like your typical can drink but not as heavily carbonated. Best part is it's BOTTOMLESS and they let you interchange drinks free of charge MEANING if you order a root beer ($1.95 i think) you are essentially getting bottomless root beer AND orange soda. awesome. Great place to sit at the bar and watch a game. Theresa is my favorite bar tender.

Excellent fish tacos. Also one of the best amber ales I have ever had. I always visit this place when I am working in Layton.

Great food, beverage and atmosphere. Strikes a nice balance between casual and upscale. Food was excellent and service was good. I had the curry vegetable soup and turkey enchiladas. She had the salad and "famous" fish tacos. All of it was delicious - exceeded expectations. Plenty of variety of beers on tap. Very comfortable place!

Read as 2.5 stars: When we were in Layton in September, we met Toni's brother Jim here for dinner. He was great-driving from Huntsville and suggested this place since there are 2 in Ogden and he and his family like it. This is really a place for beer drinkers (which Kevin and are not). They have several custom beers and for this alone, they deserve high marks. I think it is the beer that must dull the taste buds of many patrons when it comes to the food. Service was nice-I ordered a margarita (being assured the bartender knew how to make a good one). It was pretty lame (in both power and flavor) but for the nominal amount of money it cost, it wasn't worth sending back (or trusting to order any other type of cocktail). I ordered the burger after asking if the burgers were the hand formed kind or the frozen preformed kind (yep, I am that kind of person). I asked this mainly because Layton and the surrounding area has pretty much every chain restaurant and every fast food establishment one could think of . Our server said they were hand formed and I asked for it medium rare/no may and add avocado. I subbed salad for the fries. Kevin ordered a pizza and Jim had the fish and chips (his regular Rooster order). Both Kevin and Jim liked their meals-Kevin's pizza was the way he liked it-kind of undercooked and Jim devoured his fish and chips. My burger was pretty awful. It wasn't the hand formed kind-but the perfectly thin and round formed type that comes frozen and can't be really cooked to order-so it was medium well/well done. I did the best I could-mostly eating the avocado. Since this was our first meal/experience in Layton it was really about seeing my uncle and Kevin and I know we will not be back to Rooster's to eat.

We are here with some friends a while ago, and thought we would try it again last night. Big mistake. They have prime rib on the weekends, so I thought I would give it a ride. I ordered mine medium, but it came back so well done that it was drier than my mother's humor. I couldn't eat more than three bites. Tried to send it back, and they said they had left it in the oven too long, so they didn't have anything that wasn't all dried out. No kidding? Why do you serve it to a customer then? We have a water shortage this year or I would have tried to choke it down. And the veggies were called steamed, but they had barely seen any temperature. Almost raw, as we all had noted. It gets worse. I'm not a waiter snob, and I generally cut them plenty of slack. Tough job, if you ask me. But he brought our salads out, and literally came right back 90 seconds later with our main course. We hadn't taken more than three bites. We had no place to put them so he gathered up a couple of our salads without us finishing them. Sheesh! And then my wife and I tossed and turned all night with a touch of food poisoning. We held it in, but Rooster's is definitely off our list. Our group is not going back.

You would think, being so closer to the Davis Conference Center that they would be repared for groups at lunch breaks. They had so little staff this week and we had to go elsewhere.

I had the Enchiladas for lunch over the weekend. Place was rather empty on a Sunday but the food was good. It was a big portion with rice and black beans. The Chocolate Stout I tried was not bad, but yeah, I'm an east coast girl and definitely like more alcohol in my stout! But at least I gave it a try. It was a nice place to catch up and have lunch with my friend and his family. The margarita pizza and the salmon sandwich both looked really good.

Was in Utah for a few weeks with work and was staying at the Hilton right next door to Roosters, so this review covers the course of a few weeks. First visit- Went in there for a few beers once the remainder of my group arrived in town. It was about 3-4 pm and there was not another customer in the place. After taking a long time to seat our group (10 ppl) the service was horrible. I only ordered the chicken wings because I had eaten already. The wings were pretty sub par. They were just fried wings with some franks hot sauce on them....just hot with no flavor. Second visit- Went in there for dinner on a Saturday night, ordered the special which was prime rib with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. The prime rib was HORRIBLE! It was very over cooked (no pink at all) not very tender, and the flavor wasn't anything worth mentioning. The potatoes were room temp and lumpy, and the vegetables weren't even cooked all the way so they were too hard for my liking. Now to the BEER..... I personally am not a fan of bitter microbrews, which is what they have there, so I may not be the best source for this. I tried 3 or 4 of their flavors and didn't like ANY of them....too bitter for my taste. The only good thing about that place is the pretzels and melted pepper jack cheese dipping sauce. You have to buy some sort of food if you're ordering alcohol in Utah....and the pretzels are only $2.50..... Welcome to Utah!

If you're looking for a GREAT place to go for food and drinks in the Davis County area Roosters is the place to be! Fantastic atmosphere and the staff has always been great to me. I'm a fan of the darker beers and their oatmeal stout is fantastic. Combined with the wide array of delicious food on the menu, Roosters is perfect! Make sure you order a jug of beer to go. You know, just in case. :)

I think I've had better experiences at Rooster's, but I've only been once or twice before in the past three years (I live in Lehi). I ate there today and was pretty disappointed. Maybe it was the Mother's Day rush or something. I'm hoping so because my mom professes to love their food. The homemade root beer was flat, so it mainly just tasted of caramel coloring and I even asked to get a new one. But that didn't help at all and I'm not sure how you have a foamy head on a drink (as the waitress claimed), only to have it all vanish the minute it reaches me at my table. Seems like a restaurant should understand how carbonation works? The Naughty fries appetizers was very good--I especially loved the Buffalo sauce for dipping. My Chicken Vera Cruz was... Just kind of strange. I thought it would be more Mexican or south western, but it was topped with an overzealous amount of feta, which was just strange with the tomatilla sauce. My mom loves this dish and I sincerely hoped for better, but it was quite sub par. Overall I will probably try Rooster's again on a less busy day. But if I was going on just my experience today, I would avoid it in the future.

There's only been a handful of times I've been to layton but I'm glad that the wedding reception I attended was at Roosters. I ordered the flat iron steak with mashed potatoes and it was delicious. I also really enjoyed the Rooster's made Hefewizen beer. Next time I'm in Layton, I will make sure to stop by Roosters.

My husband and I ate here on Saturday night. We waited about 15 minutes for our table, so that was reasonable given that it was Saturday night. My husband ordered the ahi tuna salad which was absolutely amazing. I will be back for that salad. However, I ordered the fish and chips and I was very disappointed. The batter was too thick on the fish leaving the batter slightly doughy (raw). The amount of fish served was tiny because most of it was batter that lacked in flavor. I wish the batter was slightly thinner which would have resulted in a higher fish to batter/breading ratio. The fries were good, but the fries overwhelmed the plate...when I order fish and chips I want fish on my plate...not lots of fries with some fish that has too much batter on it. Our server was friendly and prompt. I will never order the fish and chips again. Please fix this Roosters or take it off the menu.

Probably one of the few places you can get a decent drink at in Layton. Went here with a coworker. The food was HORRIBLE! The beer was good, the waitress was super nice and even told us to stay away from couple of appetizers that weren't so popular (after we decided to order them ) .. Overall, if you are in town and staying in one of the hotels around there , and you want a beer or two.. this is your place.

After several visits, I would consider this place decent. It always seems to be a hit or miss experience. The ambience feels quite comfortable, the booths are right next to each other, but isolated enough to have their own privacy. The quality of their service is very random. It can range from a very friendly staff, quick follow-up, neglectful, to rude. They have a variety of modernized American items to choose from their menu, a few items I would recommend for lunch is their sandwiches, mainly Cajun Turkey sandwich and Chipotle Chicken sandwich. Although not spicy enough for my level, but it's definitely flavorful enough for a delightful lunch. Either homemade soup or veggie pasta salad is an excellent choice of side. I also enjoyed their Ahi Salad, it's not the best fish I ever had, but definitely some of the best in the area. Last thing worth mentioning is their beer, they are all supposed to be homebrew and above the Utah legal limit. There were six choices, I think four of them are permanent and two are seasonal rotations. Overall, this can be fairly good place for lunch when you are in the Layton area, but it all depends on the day and who gets to serve you. Flawed perfection.

Roosters Brewing Company and Restaurant. Coming from one of the largest densities of micro breweries in the country I'm a bit of a beer snob with a fully adept palate. Then I remembered I'm in Utah where beer has a max of 4%. Every time I've come here I either bring my own beer or drink liquor. This time I decided to try their root beer floats, bottomless. After 2 a gal told me I can switch it up to orange and I did. After 2 more I was ready to switch it up to shots and cocktails. Service was good, but after chatting with some locals it can be hit or miss. My experience was good. I wanted to try their food, but with the advice of a fellow out of town drinker he said go with the appetizers. Wow were the wings good and the onion rings world class, but those are beer food and not cocktail food so my experience could have been better if I had a real IPA or even a true Kolsch (4.2-4.8% is true) I would have tried a meal. This place has really good potential and serves a good need for gastro pub food, but they should make more good that goes well with drink and not beer because they really don't have anything except hoppy water.

I went to Roosters with my family to celebrate a birthday. I've eaten here many times and I really enjoy their food. They usually have a lot of fresh veggies and great flavor. I recommend the Ahi wrap. Their homemade beer selection is good and they usually mix in a seasonal. My only problem is their service, you can get an okay server or a bad one. overall great food and great atmosphere.

Not amazed but happy 4 stars across the board. Had a quinoa, red rice, and lentil salad on micro greens and avo. Pretty happy with size. Greens a little wilted, could of used some care there. Otherwise great. Ameri-mexi food. Good portions, thoughtful plating, ingredients, and sauces. Will come back. Carmel bread pudding pretty damn solid.

Went to Roosters again the other day, very disappointed. Got the turkey enchiladas, not good. Turkey was wayyyyy salty, no other flavoring was used on the turkey, the rice was overcooked, there was only a teaspoon of enchilada sauce on the entire dish. Again, very disappointed, they have done far better in past visits.

We've been to Roosters more than I should probably admit. While pregnant with my youngest spawn I had LOTS of cravings for their bar pretzels with pepperjack cheese and their salad with the house pesto dressing. So you know those are delicious. My top favorite dishes: Baked Chicken Milano. Love the combo of capers and lemon. Also adore mashed potatoes and asparagus. Rustic Turkey Sandwich. Comes with a rosemary aioli. YUM YUM YUM. I also like to put a little of the pesto dressing on it too. And their homemade focaccia??!!! I'd like to buy it by the ton. We also enjoy the What a Crock appetizer, naughty fries and the husband loves the giant beer battered onion loops. The food is great, the service has always been right on. I'm not afraid to bring people here and try new things. And the bread pudding is a great way to top off a meal.

Had cheese curds to start cheese was super melty and hot sauce to dip it in is perfect! So good! And Santa fe chicken Also super tasty! Strawberry daqs. Were ok obviously not as strong as Vegas (; hahaha. Over all what a great experience outside of Vegas!

Great staff. Great beer. Anything with polygamy is awesome. Great Hungarian mushroom soup. Really buttery and creamy. Recommendation from the sister-wife bartender. The fish and chips? Um. Cold fries Rubber fish from over cooking If it wasn't for the bartender with great boobs it would be a 2 star. Overall. I'd go again but only do food because Utah makes you have food...

Conveniently located right across from my hotel at Home2Suites. I went here a lot whenever I needed a break from studying when I lived in Utah for a month for my work studies. I don't remember most of the beers I drank, but they were a little weak (must've been because of the high altitude). However, most of the beers were good. The food was great as well. I had the Mongolian mushroom soup-bomb! I had some sort of spicy pasta dish, which was good as well. The service was good as well. I like sitting at the bar because that's where I can catch my sports. Also, I found it weird that they wouldn't serve me alcohol unless I ordered food--I heard that it's a law by city in Utah, for safety reasons. I don't know when I'll be in Utah next, but if I'm ever in the area, will visit this place again. Oh and the location in Ogden is a better choice, because it's in the center of the fun crowd and other bars.

Nice atmosphere, two flat screens but bad service. I went to the patio and three different sets of waiters walked by me and did not offer me a menu, silverware or anything. They just looked at me as I were invisible. I should have told one of the waitors that I was a Utah Health Inspector and I noticed some rat droppings when I walked in. Next time I go back with my team I will let them know that the last time their service totally dismal and lacking.

Good beer and appetizers: overworked staff and terrible entrees. Sit at the bar if you can find a spot. We're new in town, so we failed to realize this restaurant was in a location just to attract travelers staying in the many hotels close by. They don't need to do anything well, just display that whole "haha we serve beer in utah and we have attitude" thing and they'll stay in business. It's actually a pretty common business practice around here. I tried a number of their beers. The IPA was my favorite. We had the fried cheese curds, which were pretty good. The entrees we choose, however, were very low-quality for the price. I guess I didn't drink enough. We tried the raviolis and the Sicilian pizza. If you want to know how those tasted, there are whole rows of like-items in the frozen food section at your nearest grocery store. Super bland and obviously factory made. Save your hard-earned money. Buy your own frozen pizza and eat it before you come here. It's insanely overpriced for what you get: pre-prepped oven-thawed food served by a terribly short, tired staff. Tip your server well, because they're probably working half of the tables in the restaurant by themselves.

  • Lesley W.

If you're into beer you would really like this place. The food was pretty good as well. The waitress was horrible and she didn't know anything about the beers at all. I thought that was a little strange. Also, the restaurant has a really open floor plan which made it a little loud. I would certainly go back but if they tried to put me with the same waitress I would request to be moved.

  • Dennis W.

So far so SLOW. Show up and told we can't seat you as wait staff is slow, sure enough as I see 5 empty tables. Finally get food ordered and it took close to 40 mins to arrive. Again empty table all around. Beer was cold, food so-so. Will only return if I have 2 hrs to waste and don't care about the taste of the food.

It was fine but far from the best place around. My husband and I went there this weekend and it was ok but not great. My husband was disappointed in the lack of choices for sides. The mashed potatoes were ok but plain. The carrots were good but the zuchini was mushy. I ordered a steak and I asked the waitress what 'medium' is there. She told me it would be pink in the middle so I went ahead and ordered it. When it arrived it was blood red thru most of it. My husband ordered Med Rare and there was little difference. I did not send it back because that usually ensures a dry, tough steak. I simply expect a waitress to have a reasonable understanding of how that nights chef prepares a steak.

Was in town one night for a business trip and the local hotel clerk recommended this place. I'm incedibly glad i came here. It was long day and i was looking for a place to relax. Have a beer and put my feet up so to speak. This place was the right spot to relax. The staff was cool and relaxed despite a fairly crowded night. There was good music and the local brew hit the right spot. The food was good and will definitely come back when i'm back in town.

I went with 3 other people and everyone enjoyed their food and beer. The bison burgers and the blue cheese bacon burger looked awesome. I had the Cajun seafood jumbalaya, which was ok, but not awesome. The customer service was good. Would I go back? Yes, but I'd order something different.

Love this restaurant. Great local beers, good food, and we always have good service if we sit at the bar. Their servers are hit and miss, so we always go straight to the bar. The blonde female bartender is a riot. She keeps everyone in a chipper mood. If you're a beer drinker, this is your place.

I have been to Rooster's twice during this trip to Layton. The beer is outstanding! I've had two different salads, the cobb and the Santa Fe. Both were fresh and tasty with the perfect amount of dressing. The decor is nice, and with two large flat screens looks like a great place to catch a game. The only thing preventing 5 stars is slightly less than perfect service. I will probably make a third visit before the week is out.

Had the fish tacos with a vegetable medley instead of the beans. Everything was very good. I don't drink beer so I opted for the homemade root beer. It was very good, it's yeast based and tastes wonderful. I would come back.

This place was aweful. The unholy trinity of lame service, slow kitchen, flavorless food. waitress with the dreads is the worst. Longest time I've spent thirsty in a restaurant. Even longer wait for the check at the end. Bland burger, my wife's salmon was cold and unseasoned, my daughter's mac and cheese was clearly blue box. Paid 50 bucks with a beer. I love the one in Ogden. Why is this one so bad.

    (1)
  • Jamieson O.

Not the best!!! Beware the beer is not cold and if you sit at the bar you will probably wait quite a bit before they ask you what you would like. They could not have cared less when I told them why I was leaving.

Food Meh. Waiter OK. Hostess awful!! Chick didn't welcome our group at all. She walked into the next room and said " I put some menus on a table in there". Wouldn't ever go back there mainly because of this. We were also seated by the dressing room of sorts for the servers I guess? Apparently it's OK to spray your Cologne by the kitchen door next to tables... It just seems like a bunch of high school kids running the place. Should've gone to Marie Calendars.

Had some delicious food. With 3 kids and 8 adults we had a wide variety of orders. As far as drinks, 2 tried the chocolate stout and said it was good, but I'm not a drinker so I cant vouch. I tried their homemade root-beer and its delicious! Has a bite. The carrot dill soup was delicious, as was the house salad. My husband was in complete ecstasy eating his burger with naughty fries. They come with 3 sauces. I ordered the carne asada taco salad and I loved it. Bro ordered fish tacos and said they were excellent. Kids got pizza and burgers and a delicious root-beer float! The pizza was so-so but the burger was great. We were all too stuffed to try any dessert this visit. Side note: the dining area was freezing. The live music was too loud for even the kids. Good singer though.

Had the baseball sirloin with the house salad. The salad was good. The steak and veggies were very good. The steak was thick but very tender. Much cheaper than there sister restaurant. Also had their homemade root beer. It was pretty good. Unlike some other brewhouse root beers thus was very smooth without the bite that some have. Though the food was great, the bartender Tereasa was terrific. Oh and she was a great waitress too!

The waiters' t-shirts had me going! My friend is stationed at the air force base not far from here and we both wanted to drown ourselves in beer. It wasn't that busy when we got there, so we sat in a huge a$$ booth just the 2 of us. I don't quite recall what I had ordered but his fish tacos smelled really good. I only remember downing some freshly brewed beers at 2pm. My friend was only allowed 1 since he had to drive (and crap, if he was caught with a DUI, he would be dishonorably discharged!) and didn't even have his ID on him. But of course he was cool with the bartender. Thanks K! Yes, I was in Utah. And I shall be back for snowboarding!

One of my favorite dishes is the chicken Milan from roosters. Generally good service and decent price. Great atmosphere to go for a social meal with friends.

The fish tacos were very good and fresh tasting. They were grilled and not feel fried which is a plus. The beer is ok, nothing to write home about. Great atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone wanting some good food and beer.

2008 LAYTON'S TASTE OF THE TOWN ==== Best of the Town nominee Roosters made an outstanding showing at this year's Taste of the Town festival, really setting the tone for the rest of the three restaurants in the 'Vard Off Restaurant Row booth showing. The line was LOOOONG and Roosters made the wait in the sun more pleasant by getting out from behind the counter and schmoozing the locals with Roosters stickers, tattoos, bounce-back coupons, candy for the kids, and platters of Roosters homemade root beer. In the booth they were prepared with a nicely plated sampling of their Thai Ginger Steak with a banana bar. The steak was delicious and, for a public sampling, impressive that the temperature and tenderness were well preserved. Kudos to Roosters for making an impression with a full sampling of entree, beverage and dessert. The root beer isn't a flavor to complement most Roosters meals, and was slightly flat, and the banana bar was pretty much what you'd expect. Still, it's great to see a local restaurant, especially on an "off year" like this year's festival tended to be, make a showing that was tasty, friendly and carried to the finish line in promoting themselves for a repeat visit. I've liked the Ogden Roosters location a touch better than Layton's, and while entrees can be hit and miss at times, I've liked Roosters' independent and outgoing visibility.

Roosters is delicious! I have never had a bad meal. Great pasta dishes & delicious meat entrees. You can always expect a culinary treat on the specials board. Plus, did I mention they brew their own beer?

Food was great, had the shrimp appetizer for am entree. Best onion rings I have ever had in my entire life--probably very bad for you, but it resembled an onion ring doughnut. Also try the beer sampler.

really?? 4.5 stars people?? that's what i saw when I looked this place up on yelp. All i wanted a was a burger an app and some beer. the great american basics. Off i go .. I order a flight of beers... The waitress looks at me like i'm an alien. a flight.. a sampling.. of all your beers. evntually we work on through the whole language transalation and i get a 8 or so samplings of the beers. for utah beer it was ok..for regular old non 3.2% beers save your money and order water. So i order the pepper jack shrimp. I was sure the menu said 5 shrimp. after searching through the 8 ounces of cheese whiz i found only four. bah... I ordered a burger no mayo some pepper jack cheese and some jalapenos on it. What i wanted to say when i it came to my table was"Where's the beef !!!" I got a small patty.. very well done, tasted like a mcdonalds patty. but it was totally dwarfed by the bun it came in, It had mayo just like I did not order specifically.( waitress apologized for it, she was very nice) It had jalapenos, sort of , i was expecting your normal canned/bottled jalapenos. I received a fresh jalapeno chopped up .. interesting. all in all I should have gone to mcdonalds

Im always pleased to eat here! the brew is tasty and the food is great! honestly I like the appetizer menu the best. If I can have a tasty drink or beer there with some wings and a side salad then 5 stars! everything else Im going to bump it down to 4.

Rooster's is a fantastic restaurant with a great selection of new American cuisine - everything from Chicken Milano to Pizza's to seared Ahi and a delicious bread pudding and Pepperjack Shrimp. I could go on, but there is definitely something for everybody. Definitely worth a try, and a refreshing change from the banality of chain restaurants that have dominated Layton for so long.

Food is just ok. Wait service could have been better. Definitely better than Ogden location. Maybe worth once a year visit.

Four stars for the fish tacos. Yes, I already ate them in Ogden last summer, but I had to get them again during my recent visit to the Layton location. The plentiful, filled tortillas were just as good the second time around and I was happy with my redundancy. However, this time I got to sample a couple of their local brews outside of the Bee's Knees Honey Wheat. And samples they were clocking in at a mammoth 2 oz. Oh, and you can't have more than two in front of you at once (Utah!), so flights are a mythological conception. Regardless, the Ogtoberfest was good but the Up a Kriek, a Belgian cherry lambic, and the Junction City Chocolate Stout were a perfect compliment to the Winter weather.

One of the best burgers I've ever had. Brewhouse burger with local cheese, supposedly cheddar but my cheese was white and I saw another pic of yellow cheese which is typically cheddar but whatever it was delicious. First of all the bun: perfect. I don't know what they use but it's the perfect amount of softness without getting mushy from sauce and meat. Excellent amount of onion and tomato and sauce. The meat was tender and delicious. Oh and only $8.50. $9.50 for bacon. I got the beer cheese soup with it, which was alright, if you love beer you'll love the soup because I could definitely taste the beer. I'm not a huge beer/hops guy so it put me off a bit. I did, however, order the bees knees wheat beer which was very good if you don't like hoppy beer. I almost forgot about the onion rings. Excellent. They use a light batter which doesn't overwhelm or feel greasy. Good onion to batter ratio. More onion than batter which cannot be said about most places. I'm not even a big fan of onion rings but I'd definitely order them again next time. Waitress was very attentive and quick. I came with a family of vegetarians and she was good about knowing/asking what was or was not vegetarian. I don't know why this place has so many bad reviews but I'll be back when I'm in the area!

I loved this place! I went on a Sunday at lunch time and was super impressed. The portions are big, so it's okay the prices are a little higher. We got 2 entrees, 2 appetizers, and 1 drink, and spent $40. The wings, basil house dressing, fruit sides, and baked french toast each had a little surprisingly good element to them. I will definitely go back. There were several items on the menu I couldn't choose between. I really liked the atmosphere and the privacy the booths had.

Maybe I'm a snobby and elitist Portlander, used to really good food, but I feel like the original Roosters in Ogden had way better food than what we ate tonight in Layton. We got an app, which was a take on artichoke cheese. The Gorgonzola was too strong for me. My fish tacos were of sizable proportion, but they lacked basics like quest, crema, and cabbage. My meal came with a salad and a huge chunk was the end of the head and turning brown around the edges. My parents were happy, which was the point, but I felt it was lack luster tastes for what should be a good brew pub. We were there early and the servers were kind though. I'd rethink eating there again.

Roosters reminds me of a BJ's Brewhouse--modern looking decor, large variety of food, decent beers. We tried the Honey Wheat, the stout, and the Niner Bock; of those the stout was my favorite but the bock was good too. The honey wheat was mild and while it wasn't bad, it did taste like weak beer. The stout had LOTS of flavor--we got a growler to take home. Love that they offer this! The food was good as well...with six of us in our group we had three different burgers, two kids' meal plates (nearly the size of an adult order at half the price) and the fish & chips. Everyone liked their food. Fries were good. The cheese on the burgers was fantastic. I wouldn't say it's the best food I've ever eaten, but none of us were remotely disappointed. Fish & chips were maybe overpriced at $13.99 and nearly the same size as the chicken fingers kids meal, but the prices for the rest of our meals seemed spot on (burgers in the $9-10 range). Best of all--the service was AWESOME. I've had a really hard time getting good service at most restaurants I've been to since moving to UT a few months ago, and was so pleasantly surprised to get not just a friendly and attentive server, but SUPER FAST service! We never felt like we were waiting to make a request or receive a requested item. Huge change from most places I've been to here so far. They also apparently offer a punch card type deal, with $10 credit after 10 visits, but are in the process of upgrading to a swiped card system so we didn't get to get one...but we will definitely will on a return visit!

Never thought I'd eat a fried egg and ham on a burger. Tried a few bites, but the delicious ham overwhelmed the green chiles on the burger. It was all so good, though, that I ended up enjoying an open-face ham-&-egg (perfectly fried egg) sandwich AND a killer green-chili burger! The Dirty Fries are good, but the mushroom soup (Russian Mushroom?) will have me going back for more, as will the service. Great night out!!!

Great place for a casual dinner with family or friends. We all had burgers and a few of the Roosters brews and loved it all. I'd recommend the Niner Bock personally, but I like the higher powered stuff. The waitress was awesome, the place was clean, not too loud, and just a great overall atmosphere. The only big complaint I have is more directed at Utah's ridiculous liquor laws. They will sell you a growler you can bring back to get more of their delicious beer, but only the selection of beer that is 3.2 abv or lower; in other words the stuff that's basically a watery waste of time. Additionally, should you choose to bring in the growler to be filled, you must purchase some type of food with it at the same time, i.e. a basket of fries or something. So there is no, "I'll just run in and get my growler filled and go home to drink it with dinner," unless your dinner calls for a side of fries or something. They will however, legally sell you as many pint sized bottles of there most powerful beer as you want, so you can head to the parking lot and drink until you can no longer remember how to pop bottle caps off your beer, and then chuck your bottles at passing cars, (hopefully only cars full of people who work for the Utah Liquor Commission). While i reallize this is not the restaurants fault, it sort of makes them selling growlers an epic waste of everyone's time.

Used to like this place because it was near our home. But not anymore. The waitress didn't know what a corking fee was for a bottle of wine our friends brought with them. She didn't know what the specials were and left to find out and came back and read them from a typed paper. Friend ordered fish and chips. He said the fish tasted like french fries. The jambalaya had no spice and it was room temperature. The ribeye steak was chewy and had no flavor. My wife took most it home for the dogs. The bread pudding was burnt black on the bottom. I told the waitress and she said sorry about that and walked away from the table. The manager came over with the checks and I complained and said I would never come back. He made a half assed attempt to change my mind. But it just made my resolve not to come back that much stronger. There are to many restaurants in Layton to worry about this one.

Went here on a slow Monday evening. Had the southwestern steak which arrived at the table looking beautiful but proved that looks can be deceiving. It was seasoned fine but I asked for medium rare and got well done. Consequently it was tougher and dryer than I was hoping for. For drinks I had their home brewed stout which was delicious. Our server was super friendly and very attentive. All said, I'd give this place another shot. Even though I had a three star experience because of the steak, I'm giving them 4 stars because I saw enough good things to make me believe the steak was an anomaly.

I'm not sure if this was one of those hit or miss experiences, but Roosters was definitely a miss... and I'm not sure if I'll be back either. The boyfriend and I came for a group birthday dinner, so it wasn't exactly by choice that we stumbled upon this Layton establishment. After looking over the wide variety of menu items, we settled on ordering 3 appetizers: Roosters Wings, Pub Skewers and Asian Lettuce Wraps. I thought the lettuce wraps were alright... I've definitely had better though. They were heavily seasoned and had a layer of oil on top which didn't look very appetizing. The wings were kind of soggy and way too salty for my taste. As for the skewers, I thought they were the absolute worst. The description on the menu reads: A skewer of marinated beef with Cabernet jus, a Pepper Jack Chicken skewer, and a skewer of Ahi cooked in ginger glaze with wasabi ranch. To me, this dish was full of mystery meat. Everyone else in our party seemed content with their entrees, but I can only speak on my experience.

  • Jeff T.

Beer was ok, but not great. Massive proportions, but lacking in fresh ingredients. The chicken verde was obviously restaurant supply chain frozen, and the sauce was destroyed. I'm guessing they microwaved it and that's how it was rock hard. Green rice was decent. Enchiladas were decent and prepared fresh. The decor was nothing short of garish - I think there was a mugshot of a local hooker above our table, and the catsup splatter on our 80's upholstered booth was reminiscent of her murder scene years ago. Rough. But if you're already drunk and blinded by sports tv, you'll love it.

We use this place as our go to for date night, special occasions, and anytime we have friends of family in town. I haven't gotten anything I didn't like, wine or food wise. There burgers a the best in town, and the notty fries have some kick to them.

This locally-owned brew/pub/restaurant is pretty damn good. I've stopped in for lunch a few times and the food has always been well above average. I've never had anything that gave me a craving worth driving to Layton for, but when I'm in the area this is a go-to place for sure. The sandwiches and burgers are very good and they usually have great daily specials. The beers are tasty, ice cold and reasonably priced. This place beats the crap out of the national chains that are so prevalent in the area

    (4)
  • Rebecca O.

This place is just above mediocre. I thought my food was "alright". The service felt a bit rushed. We were still in the process of sitting when they were ready to run and grab drinks. Being that its a brewhouse it is nice to have a minute to look at the beer menu. I ordered the taco salad which is basically a burrito bowl in a shell placed on top of lettuce. I kept having to pick up the shell and take the lettuce out from under and put it into my "salad". My husband had the fish tacos. He said they were good. Nothing spectacular. Usually he raves about chocolate stout but he didnt say much. We eat out 2-4 times a week and probably wont go back. Not because it was bad but there just wasnt anything that stood out. Overall it was a 3 star kind of place but I give it 4 since there werent any "problems".

The two Rooster's locations (Ogden and this one in Layton) have nearly identical menus, and I am a fan of both. They brew some great micro-brews here, and have very solid food offerings with options to satisfy nearly anyone. Honestly, we eat here regularly and I've never been unhappy with a meal. We bring friends from out of town (or out of area) all of the time, and it never fails to surprise. Many of the food in Layton is typical suburban fare - chains. Blech. But Roosters is a locally grown pub with great food. I would recommend any of the following: Fish Tacos, Chicken Milano, any of the pizzas or burgers ( but don't get the Naughty Brewhouse Burger unless you're really hungry!), the Flat Iron Steak, all of the pastas, and the Rack of Lamb. Appetizers are all good, and a few of their desserts are to die for (Caramel Bread Pudding). Truly, get anything. In my experience they are very accommodating and will alter or take back anything you're unhappy with.

Great food, top-notch service! Came here for a group event and despite the large (HUGE) parties that were sat at the same time, we all received our food at a decent speed, with friendly, helpful service. Kuddos to you, Roosters!!! Will come here again when we're in town :0)

I wish this place was really good. It's just okay. The menu is large and they definitely have some good options but the food is always a bit of a let down. I did think that the Roosters in Ogden was better when I went there for lunch. It's good for large groups, cheap beer needs, and a meal for anyone. Just don't expect the flavor to be fantastic.

I really like this restaurant. I have only been here for lunch so i'm not sure what the dinner menu is like. That being said, I think this is a great place to have lunch if you're not in a hurry. The only real problem I have with the place is that the service can be hit or miss. This can probably be attributed to the fact that I have usually gone to this place in large groups. As a result, I probably have a skewed opinion on the place. As far as the food is concerned it is really good. One of my personal favorites is the Grilled Ahi Wrap. I am a sucker for fish and and ahi tuna mixed with avocados, crispy wantons, zucchini, snow speas, and a sweet soy glaze is a recipe for amazing. But be warned, the portions tend to reside on the large side. Other items I would suggest to try out are the Canjun Turkey Sandwich, and the Brewhouse Burger which comes with "Naughty Fries". I have never tried the pizza there, but I hear they are quite good. Definitely one of the better places in Layton

The food was ok...I've had better. The atmosphere was fun, I would go back to try the beer. I ordered the fish tacos, they were ok, but bland. My husband had the bacon burger and said it was ok as well. Again nothing spectacular. Maybe it should have been a clue that it was not very busy at noon on a Friday.

I ordered some enchiladas and they were salty ever. I didn't even finish when I complained, the waitress said I'm sorry there's nothing I can do about it. So that's a big 10 something down the drain. Nachos were good nothing to fantastic

We met some friends at Rooster's to check it out. The food was mediocre. It was nothing special and a little overpriced. We ordered the beer sampler to have a little taste of everything and maybe decide what to drink. All of the beer was very hoppy and bitter. Only the honey wheat was even palatable. My wife did enjoy the potato, leek soup. I had a burger that was very bland. The service was good for being busy on a Saturday night.

Bling bling snitches. I'm not a huge dessert fan but try their bread pudding.....they either use freshly ground angels or crack. So d#mn good!!! This is an amazing place for local beer, great food and if it's warm enough, patio time. The meals here are consistently awesome and the service parallels it.

  • James C.

Food was great, though as a beer-loving, non-Utah resident, I was disappointed with the drinks. People from Utah are obviously used to it, but the (4.0% abv max) beer tasted like hops soaked in water - it was definitely missing that malty base, which makes or breaks any beer. If you are hungry or don't plan on drinking (or REALLY want to try to get an expensive buzz) , this place was great!

    (3)
  • Andrew H.

I have only eaten here for lunch so far and enjoyed the food. The root beer float is not worth the price. The service was decent. It is one of a few restaurants that can accommodate large groups of people comfortably in Layton with decent food. I had half of two different pizzas my first time here. The best one was one with steak and was a great eat. Second pizza had asparagus on it and was OK, but not the best pizza I have had. I enjoy the unique pizzas and is a place that I plan on eating at again. The root beer is pretty good, but a little pricey if you buy it to go. Burgers here are not bad (but assembly could be better) as are the fries. Roosters really has potential to be a better joint then it currently is. Overall Roosters seems to be a hit or miss joint with your food and service. I give them a 3.5 star rating.

Excellent beer. I had both the diamond back ale and the seasonal irish stout. The stout had a great smoky flavor without being too heavy. Our poor server was very patient with me and explained all the different beers and also explained all the crazy alcohol laws that Utah has (as a non-Utah resident it just blew my mind how stupid the laws are). We went there at 5pm on a Monday and they weren't busy at all (although someone did say that Mondays are like Mormon family night so maybe that was it). Meal started off with a basic house salad, their house dressing (some kind of pesto citrus ranch) was extremely good. For dinner I had the capellini which was very light on the olive oil (a definite plus) with tomatoes and some sort of cheese (I can't remember what kind, tasted like a real mild goat cheese or feta). It came with some kind of foccacia bread but it was pretty dry and tasteless. The menu seemed a little more "upscale" than what I was expecting for a micro-brew place, but I was still happy with what I had.

Terrible, terrible service, 4% watered down Utah beer and mediocre food. I will not be back. Edited: I added a star after a very nice discussion with the manager. I voiced my concerns to her and she was responsive. I do hope that she has been able to make changes at the restaurant because it is a great location without much competition in Layton.

Decided to stop in for a beer and some food. What a disappointing experience! First mistake was the Irish stout, the first few sips were good, than the aftertaste kicked in! Like old stall malt and tree bark. I struggled thru it for some odd reason... maybe I was hoping it would get better. After the beer my friend and I for some reason decided to order some food (mostly because the person next to me at the bar had a burger that looked great and they seemed to enjoy it) I decided on the Pub burger with Naughty fries. BAD CALL!! The burger was was overcooked and dry. Bland as well. Veggies were old and dry too! The bun was the best part and that was just ok. Now on to Naughty fries, basically fries with two cheese sauces on them and some hot sauce stuff. One sauce was Gorgonzola and the other pepper jack, some of my favs and with hot sauce and fires I thought I couldn't go wrong. Well I was wrong! The sauces were way overpowering, like it was old milk or cream mixed with bad cheese. Not a good thing at all. The hot sauce mix was good however, basically Frank's Red Hot and something thick like cheese. The fries by themselves were good. Friends burger had a chunk of bone in it and was overcooked too! Onion rings were crazy salty and very greasy. Not really excited about a one star review but this place deserves it! I have eaten here before and it was much better than. Guess the past few years have not been kind.

The food of good, staff is friendly. The beer is average at best, most have diacetyl (buttery) in them, which is fine in some styles but not all.

I used to love Roosters, so I decided to go there with my gf's for my birthday dinner today. Certainly wish I had picked somewhere else. Between the hair in my friend's salad, four filthy forks, a horribly ignorant server, and now this delusional pulsing headache I have that lead me to hurl my food less than an hour after leaving, alas, happy birthday to me and I shall not return. The coffee and tea was great, maybe they should stick with beer and beverages until they figure out whats going on in the kitchen.

Being a huge pepper jack cheese fan, we ordered the Pepper Jack Shrimp as an appetizer. It pretty good and got me hyped up for the rest of the meal. I ordered a Carne Asada Taco Salad for my meal which was a standard taco salad. I enjoyed the set up of the meal. The rice, beans, protein (hot items) were in the taco shell and the romaine leaves (veggie items) were placed next to the taco shell on the large plate. This kept the salad from cooking under the heat of the hot items. This seemed like a good place to have a large group party. Overall, I would go back to sample the rest of the dishes.

So I tried the baked Milano chicken. loaded root beer oops forgot that the alcohol was a bit weaker than the rest of the county. Also tried the heifer wizen it was not good but again it was a weaker alcohol content. He had a pasta dish with sausage it was pretty tasty. Pesto sale dressing was fantastic.

The red rooster Brewing Company and Restaurant, is a good place to meet up w/friends for happy hour, or eat. With the exception of their current evening hostess, I like the waitstaff. The waiter that attended me was very knoledgable about the beers, and drinks that the restaurant served, and was able to give me some great reccomendations. He also was balanced in the way that he didn't bother us every five minutes to ask us if we needed anything, but wasn't away for so long that he'd forget to ask us if we wanted refills on our brew. I like their chips and dip too! Oh yeah, and the hostess was very inconsiderate. I waited five minutes before asking if she could seat me because she was carrying on a conversation with some other patrons! When I politely interrupted her so that she could seat me, she acknowledged yet took her time to wrap up the conversation. How rude! Not a good business practice for this high end restaurant and brewing company in the commercial business part of Layton.

What's this? An independently-owned restaurant with decent food in Layton? Yes sir! I've only recently discovered this place, but the one meal that I've had was very good. I had ponzu-marinated swordfish, my wife the prosciutto and asparagus pizza. Both were excellent, much better than you'd find at other brewpubs. I found the three beers that we sampled to be average at best, hence just 4 stars.

Pepper Jack Shrimp is always good, have them toast the bread and it is even better. Prime Rib on the weekends is also great. Beers are very good, my favorite is the Diamond Back Ale. Weird Utah laws you can not have a mixed drink at the Bar only at tables, and the hours they stay open till are not consistent with a Brew Pub. So if you get there at ten after 9pm on a weeknight be prepared to go home at 10pm

I have been coming here for years and one of my favorites was the hummus plater. More than enough for a meal. But recently they have changed and it isn't the same. No Sundried tomatoes and less olives and the hummus has been bland. I still have it every time but just not the same.

Try their fish & chips. Unique and tasty. Customer service is hit or miss.
