Despite my promise to wait a couple months to revisit Brooklyn Meatball Co., I ended up returning after only a couple of weeks. It was deja vu with fantastic food mired by flawed restaurant operations. Instead of getting our food to go this time, my colleague and I sat to watch the early lunch hour unfold at Brooklyn Meatball Co., 11:20am to 12:00pm on Friday, June 15. The Food: 1. I tried the spaghetti this time. As the daily special, I think it was ~$8.99 with a drink. The spicy sauce was again superb. It has a bit of kick, but not overpowering. 2. My colleague, transformed into a ravenous carnivore, tore through her meatball sandwich and managed to mutter after the last bite, "OMG, I want another." Operational Issues: 1. I would estimate that somewhere around 33% of the customers that stood in line for at least a few moments gave up and decided to pursue other dining options. Prince's, the burger place next door, was the default option for most of the exasperated. My colleague estimated that the number of queue quitters was closer to 50%. Several other potential customers saw the glacial line, shook their heads, and moved on for other alternatives without missing a beat. 2. There was a new cashier on Friday who informed us it was her first day. You want your most competent and knowledgeable employee to be at the very beginning of the production process, not your worst. This is why you work your way up to the register at most fast food restaurants. Unfortunately, the new cashier was flummoxed by pretty much everything involving the order process. As a result, the rest of the crew was actually standing around at various points with nothing to do while waiting for orders. 3. They should change all their prices, so that they round out to whole dollars after tax. Way too many potential orders are being lost at the cashier by slow processing times. Likewise, I would recommend moving to all cash and abandoning electronic transactions. 4, Overall, the length of the line, at any given point, was much shorter than my previous visit. This certainly was not because orders were being processed faster. Instead, I think there were far more queue quitters now that the novelty has worn off a bit. Bottom-Line: Lots of potential given a serious rethink of how they approach order processing. The entire staff should fly up to DC and visit El Pollo Rico for a weekend of high-volume operations training. yelp.com/biz/el-pollo-ri…

I've tasted much better but, not a lot worse. Meatballs were formula and about 3% below average. Texture O.K. Taste could be better. The sauce was horrible, slightly altered canned tomato products. Had the rigatoni pasta and a little mushy gooey and overcooked and held for a long time on the steam table. $9.73 for lunch without drink. Definitely not worth it and will be my last visit.

I was looking forward to trying this place out, having blogged "America's Next Great Restaurant." I was not disappointed. The Saucy Balls were well worth the messiness, and the turkey Saucy Slider with gorgonzola sauce was just right. The sauces were not too strong, and the meatballs were perfect for lunch size.

Horrible meatballs!!! The meatball is very soggy and looks undercooked. Immediately after eating 1 meatball my stomach started hurting and after 5 hours i am still paying for it. I can only suspect the meatball being undercooked or bad either way horrible meatball for a place that is named after their meatballs

Delicious food? In the Houston Tunnels? YES!!! It is there folks, and it arrived in the form of Italian Meatballs and pasta! Okay, some of you have complained about the price: good food costs a bit more because its made with quality ingredients and not mass produced. This is the case here at Brooklyn Meatball Company. Joey cooks it all by himself -- it takes a bit of time to prepare one meal at a time, but its totally worth it. Hence, you will have a line when it gets busy at lunch. My advice? Come a bit earlier than the normal crowds from 11:30 to 12:30. Not too early, as he hasn't quite gotten the Gorgonzola sauce ready yet. 11:15 seems to be the sweet spot -- anything earlier and its not ready -- any later and you'll be in a line resembling most rides at Disneyland. I'm sure Princes and Rico's are jealous of the long lines -- yes, the food IS that good. Quality food has been lacking in the tunnels for quite some time -- and there are notable exceptions -- this is one. So, why not 5 stars? One: the process isn't down yet: it all seems too new for the crew. Some of them bounce into each other, get confused as to what order is what, who ordered what, etc. Give them time: they will get it down. Two -- consistency: sometimes I get bread, sometimes I don't. This is mostly due to the crew not knowing who is doing what. Once they work these small issues out, I'll be a regular here - the food is delicious! Bottom line: Off the charts Italian meatballs with pasta! Lunch has a new meaning in downtown Houston! Buon appetito!

With my flexitarian low meat diet, I haven't had a meatball in years. I was excited to hear about the eggplant meatball option. I tried it and I was hooked. Absolutely delicious. The spicy marinara sauce was perfectly seasoned. It had a little kick, but not too spicy. This place is a little pricey ($5 for 2 meatballs), but they are definitely gourmet and worth the price.

LADIES LISTEN UP. Paleo Crossfit dudes, you pay attention too. This place is "Shut up and take my money!" good. Tired of your routine carbless tunnel lunch of a grilled chicken salad and veggie wrap? Brooklyn Meatball Co. is your go to place. Get you some meatballs and a salad and you're going to have the most flavorful protein and veggies option the downtown Houston tunnel can offer. I'm serious! I eat here and don't feel like I'm cheating myself. I'm getting a hell of a lot of flavor while still sticking to my carbless/paleo diet goals. You can even take it a step further by getting the turkey balls rather than the beef. To me, this is a girl's dream in that I can go here to be healthy or splurge and eat my feelings. I can be healthy by the meal I mentioned above (balls and a salad) or I can stress eat my work feelings by getting a sub on some of that delicious bread with mozzarella. Seriously, always ask for the mozzarella. If they ask, the answer is always yes. Note the salad options are stupid flavorful too - not just your basic mixed greens with balsamic or ranch on the side. They make salads interesting again and they give you a generous portion! And if marinara or meat/beef is not your thing, know that turkey or eggplant balls are an option and so are Gorgonzola and pesto sauce. There's something for everyone here. Don't just think this is your basic meatball sub shop - it goes beyond that. This food FLAVORFUL and they plate it beautifully. Seriously, food in a Styrofoam container looking gorgeous. Also, if you run into the owner, say hi, because he's super nice and fun. His enthusiasm for his product is contagious and you can't help but feel excited for him and his food.

One word can describe the Meatball Subs here. Banging! Finally a new place opens up in the Downtown Food Court area. The owner is super cool as well. What are you waiting for, get down here for lunch and try this place out.

Not gonna lie, because...why would I lie? Great meatballs and noodles. Catered for the office and it was a resounding hit. Glad these guys are bringing good food to the tunnel downtown.

This place lived up to the high expectations Yelp gave me. When I located the tunnel food court where it's situated (a somewhat demanding exercise) I almost caved and went to one of the three amazing-looking asian places nearby. But I'm so glad I didn't! For roughly $10 I got a huge, delicious salad that is definitely not typical tunnel fare--real mixed greens, mushrooms, candied walnuts, gorgonzola, cherry tomatoes and a good balsamic vinaigrette. It was huge!! I also got to try the caprese salad my friend ordered; also legit. The meatballs themselves did not disappoint. Flavorful and moist (I got turkey w/ spicy sauce).

My coworker told me we were eating lunch at Brooklyn Meatball Co. today, which is in the McKinney Place Garage tunnel (Travis and McKinney). I ordered the special, which is half a sub with 2 meatballs, a side salad, and a drink. I assumed that the portion size would be smaller, but I was surprised by the size of the meatballs and how much salad I got (side note, my food pictures usually look better than this, but let's be real - photographing food packed inside of a to-go box doesn't give you many options on making it look good). The sub is served with the balls, your sauce, a drizzle of balsamic, and a couple pieces of arugula. The beef meatballs had an interesting texture to them - they were on the dense side. The sauce I got on them, spicy marinara, had a little bit of heat to justify calling it "spicy." The bread is most definitely not big enough (prepare to make a mess), but it was a good texture for the sandwich itself. The salad is absolutely gargantuan for a "side salad," and it actually wasn't dressed too heavily, which I appreciate. You can choose between Caesar and house; I got Caesar, but the house salad that my coworkers ordered looked pretty tasty. I was overall pleased with the meal, and I was actually stuffed after eating everything. It is on the expensive side for "fast food" at just over $11, but if you want a solid sandwich and salad for lunch, this would be one of your better options.

First the bad: Its in the tunnels... Now the good: Great food for a great price. Average meal is anywhere from $8-12. Regular Sauce is little tangy and sweet, the Spicy has good heat and builds as you go. Traditional Meatballs are what you should get but they have turkey and eggplant if your in the mood for something different. Caprece salad is delicious and balances your pallet if the Spicy is too hot for you. Joey is always there and Happy to talk to anyone who has questions or comments. If you're ever in the tunnels this place is a must.

Hidden underneath Main Street in Houston is the lunch stand, Brooklyn Meatball Co. Visiting on a biz trip, I stopped in based on the great Yelp reviews and let's just say it met my expectations and more. Part of a small food plaza, Brooklyn Meatball doesn't look like much from the outside. Bland signage, small menu of three types of meatballs in various forms, I go with the full sandwich (four meatballs) for $10. Definitely not cheap, let's see if she's a worth it. Ten minutes later I get two half-sandwiches layered with mozz and drizzled with balsamic and arugula. It's a messy meal, whenever I take a bite, the ball wants to pop out. But it's totally worth the mess. The balls are a good size and seared with a nice crust, soft meaty texture inside. Spicy tomato sauce on top of very good Italian bread, yum! A small side of rigatoni accompanies the meal and it's a lot of food. I eventually find out the owner was on America's Next Great Restaurant reality show and it does make sense. They make a great sandwich here, it's not cheap but totally worthwhile despite the mess. So enjoy a little taste of Brooklyn in Houston. Not super easy to find but worth the effort...

These meatballs are probably the best I've ever had and the owner Joey is great. They are SO GOOD. The house salad dressing is also excellent and I wish they would bottle and sell it! I would come here a lot more often if it cost just a little bit less. I feel like the meatballs are a tad overpriced for their size, but not so much that I wouldn't eat here.

I'm no meatball sub aficionado, but this was the best one I've had! I made sure to go early so there wasn't a line to speak of when I got there, it started forming at about 11:30ish though. There are valid points from other reviewers that this isn't the cheapest place to eat, but one has to splurge sometimes, and this place is definitely worth it on occasion!

Good meatballs, but a bit overpriced and too rushed. From all the Yelp hype and the TV show publicity looping on a monitor above the order counter, I really wanted to give this place 5 stars...I just can't. The restaurant is located in the downtown tunnels in the McKinney Food Court across from Ragin Cajun. It is only open for weekday lunch. I have had the daily combo special on two different occasions. On my first visit, I had a half order of turkey meatballs with the spicy marinara sauce. The meatballs did not have much taste to them. Frozen meatballs from Costco have more taste than BMCs turkey meatballs. I know I ordered spicy sauce, but that is not what was delivered. The spicy sauce was not spicy at all...no heat. On my second visit, I had the regular meatballs with the spicy marinara. The sauce was delicious. You can see the large black specks of pepper and it had just the right amount of heat. I could immediately tell that I was given the wrong sauce on my first visit. The regular meatballs are also much better than the turkey ones...more flavor and made the meal very enjoyable. I also like the bread that the meatballs were served on. Not too soft, not too hard, and delicious by itself. A side and drink come with the meatball special. I have had the caprese salad and rigatoni with sauce. The salad was tasty and I enjoyed the mozzarella, but I prefer pasta with the kick-ass spicy sauce. The combo meal came to a total of $11, but feel that it should have been at least a few dollars less. You only get half a sub in the special, which amounts to a 4-inch roll with two 1-1/2 inch meatballs and some sauce. Note that you also get about two cups worth of pasta and sauce as a side, but I would rather have three meatballs and less pasta. I like the fact that drinks are self-serve. I do not know why my order was screwed-up on my first visit. It may be because the cashier takes your order and payment in about ten seconds, but I am not sure. BMC did it right the second time, though, but I was the only person in line. I want to go back and try something else....perhaps a vegetarian meatball.

Brooklyn Meatball Co. is my go to lunch spot! I recently moved from Houston to Chicago and I am having withdraws--as soon as I get back in Houston I am coming here. The beef meatballs with rigatoni and spicy marinara are out of this world. This place is a MUST TRY if you work or are visiting downtown during the day. You won't be disappointed!

Spicy turkey & eggplant meatballs--soooooo good, and I lived in Brooklyn/NYC for ten years. For the first time down south I didn't reach for the salt, these were perfect. Pasta portion looked so filling and I would think that's be the best thing to order, I got a decent side salad to try and be healthy. PS Its downstairs in the food court.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
