My boyfriend and I ventured out to find sustenance on the Fourth of July. We, of course, forget that e'erbody is closed. We resort to Mexican (#merica). We've come to La Hacienda many times. My boyfriend LOVES Mexican food to the point he could eat it everyday (though cannot pronounce anything in Spanish, which I find semi-hilarious). Food: We both order breakfast burritos with arroz con queso. Service is extremely slow (which is nothing new based on our experiences), considering the restaurant wasn't that busy and especially since we just ordered two breakfast burritos with a side of rice. Our burritos finally come out of the kitchen and our waitress mixes up our orders. We realize this after my BF decides to sprinkle Tabasco sauce (gross) all over what was supposed to be my burrito. I eat it anyways, at this point I was hangry. The burrito was good. My arroz con queso honestly looked like it had been nuked in the microwave. I ate it anyways. Hangry. Drink: Normally I wouldn't complain about my water glass reaching the bottom, but at a Mexican restaurant where the salsa is spicy and the chips are salty, water flowage is necessary. The waitress finally refilled my water glass - with lukewarm water. Lukewarm water just doesn't quench the thirst with Mexican food. Overall, not impressed with the service. The food is decent. I wish I could say that it was a holiday, blah blah blah, but all the other times I've been here, I haven't been over-the-top impressed with their service either. Internally battling myself on whether or not this is two star or three star worthy. The service was "meh", the food is "A-ok." Two stars for the service, added one star because the food is good.

Great Mexican food. The atmosphere and area look beat down, but the food is great. The tacos were good with tender meat, and warm tacos. All other table ordered big jugs of magrittas so they must have great deal on them. The waitress' English was hard to understand but we did receive our orders without hiccups lol.

Some of the best Mexican food in Nashville. Service is solid. Always fast. If you want to lower carb but delicious option, choose the Pollo Las Flores: Grilled Chicken with mushrooms and steamed vegetables instead of the regular beans and rice.

Gave La Hacienda another shot and was really pleased with the great dining experience! They've got lunch specials, even on Saturdays, and their margs were tasty. Our waitress was great and actually noticed we were out of salsa and brought us more without us asking for it! Today I had delicious grilled chicken tacos in corn tortillas-everything tasted fresh and my chicken wasn't dry and sad and rubbery. Quick tip: if you are having trouble getting salsa out of the squeeze dispenser on the table, consider taking off the cap rather than continuing to apply pressure. Let's just say the hubs was in the line of fire of a salsa explosion and I miraculously escaped unscathed.

Moving from Chicago, land of delicious foods of all varieties, was a little tricky. Especially when it came to Mexican food. La Hacienda has eased the transition. The food is more authentic than, say, Rosepepper. The margaritas are strong, even during happy hour: 2 for 1! I recently tried the shrimp tacos. I'd recommend corn tortilla--I accidentally received flour, which got a bit soggy, but I'll try again next time. Mixed fajitas--steak and chicken--were a HUGE portion, enough for two to share. Salsa and chips are refilled frequently, much to my satisfaction. I couldn't find a fish taco on the menu, but I'm excited to try the other varieties that remind me of the Windy City. I've also heard great things about the Saturday/Sunday pozole!

So far the most authentic mexican food Ive had..Went there for lunch and in spite of the busy hour was out in half an hour. The service was good , the food even better. They also sell paletas from Las Paletas . Would definitely go back.

When I think Mexican, this is where I go. The selection is great, the service is great, and the food is great. I love the steak tacos! Best in town!

I've been eating at La Hacienda for over 15 years since it was a grocery store with a little grill on one side. It was my favorite for years. The quality of the food and the standard of service has taken a nose dive in the last few years. I've noticed the salsa has a weird twangy flavor sometimes like its old or fermenting. I mentioned it to the manager who knows me as a regular. He did not care. The last straw was my wife finding a hair in her huevos rancheros. When we showed it to the manager he argued that it wasn't a hair but piece of the bag that onions come in. When I paid at the counter I told him how poor the service had become. He just shrugged. There are too many other choices on Nolensville road alone. We won't be back.

I will never get tired of going here. I love going out for Mexican, and this is my favorite place to get it in Nashville. My sister and I always split the chicken fajitas. You get a nice, hearty helping of chicken simmering in peppers, onions, tomatoes, and a squeeze of lime juice. Their chips and salsa are fantastic--and they keep 'em comin'! The price is right (especially on a college student's budget) and I never leave hungry! Can't wait to sit out on the patio in the summer :)

Menudo is always on point. I would have given them 5 stars if the Barbacoa was Texas style, the barbacoa they sell here has to much basil IMO.

After all the stellar recommendations for La Hacienda, I had to make my way to Nolensville Road to test it out for myself. We got there at about 1pm on a Saturday afternoon and the place was busy but no wait for a table. Perfect! The interior was festive just like a Mexican place should be and they did have a patio as well. The best thing about Mexican places is that they bring out chips and salsa immediately so you can start curing that hangover immediately. Yessss! I liked their chips - I prefer thicker chips and they have them. Salsa was pretty good - not as spicy as I typically want it but this ain't no Tex-Mex so that's ok. I still ate plenty of it. My brother and I both stared slack jawed at the menu for many minutes trying to take it all in and figure out what we wanted. So many options! So many things sounded good! But after I saw that they had barbacoa on Saturdays and Sundays only my mind was made up. Done and done. It was marinated and cooked to perfect tenderness. I put it on the homemade tortillas and put the cilantro and some lime on it. YUM! These were extremely tasty. I also liked the rice which is saying something at Mexican restaurants since it is usually an afterthought. Thank you to the Mexican gods for putting a decent Mexican restaurant right here in TN!! Service was overall good - they kept our drinks and salsa bowl filled without any problems. And they brought the check out promptly. Speaking of drinks, I will have to go back and get a margarita - since I was driving I didn't have one but just you wait until someone else drives me!! You pay at the counter up front which is a little unique for me - places in Dallas didn't have that. But oh, what's that beside the counter up front? Las Paletas popcicles? Don't mind if I do! However, notice what flavor you are getting before you just yank it up and start sucking (heh, that's what she said). I got the rice flavor which was odd tasting to say the least and all the pieces of rice inside made me even more full than I already was. I couldn't finish it. Next time I'm going for a more fruity flavor if possible. I am putting this on the weekend "I need Mexican food!" rotation which means I'll probably be here three times a month minimum. That's ok because there are a million other things I want to try.

The wife and I stopped here yesterday afternoon for a quick bit and a drink. I ordered the 16oz margarita on the rocks w/salt. It was my wife's first time so she want to read through the menu. The waiters came by every minute of so wanting to take the order, very annoying. We placed our order #29 and lunch fajitas. The food took forever in the mean time trying to get additional salsa for the chips was next to impossible. Was never asked if we wanted another drink. When the food did show up about 30 minutes had past only the #29 came out no fajitas. I just told them to forget the fajitas at that point. Never saw the waitress again not even to drop the check, we went to the counter to pay without it. Not even a sorry from what I think was a manager at the register on the issues, that is just not forgivable in the service industry. Folks... stay away from here if you want to keep all of your hair. Otherwise, you're going to be pulling your hair out, begging the waitress to come to your table, take the proper order, and then actually serve it in a timely manner....

Dived (dove?) into the deep end and found pearls. I decided to order the tongue ("lengua") in an unusually adventurous mood, and it was buttery, succulent and flavorful beyond words. If their "weird foods" is this good, imagine the staples!! A very exciting find, looking forward to trying the whole menu. Oh yeah, super affordable too.

Wow... what a disappointment La Hacienda has become. This used to be the best in town once upon a time.... now.... one of the worst. I can't help but think that maybe they changed ownership over the last several years. The Chile Relleno is absolutely horrible...uneatable...a nasty sponge battered mess...crunchy???, not properly cooked...ack. The cheese enchilada was also horrible...a solid hard wad of plastic cheese and a tough shell smothered in brown (sauce?)... ugh... so disappointing. I have been here 3 times as of late and each visit worse than the previous. I really didn't want to write a review like this as I so loved this place for so many years. I am sad to say I probably won't be back...and if I am it would be for no more than an order of chips and salsa. There are far too many decent mexican restaurants in town to waste your time or money here.

I stopped going there a while back, but here's what stuck with me: none of the food. I didn't much care for it tastewise, but that may just be the veggie fare (or lack thereof) It was - meh - aside from the needing to hit the bathroom relatively quickly afterwards which was a pain (literal and figurative). Evidently my roommate at the time had the same experience, he however loved the place, but had the same after-effects. I dug the booze there, for veggies I believe there is nothing as I've never before met a bean I couldn't keep down / that's got to be pork re-fried beans (although I asked and was told no at the time). Roomie was not a veggie, no idea why he couldn't keep it in him, but he never did and I and anyone within 20 feet had to suffer. Have not been back in a long time, it's close but I have no love of the place from the past / do not look forward to hanging around the bathroom thinking "man, why the hell did I eat there again?" So 2 veggie stars, from the reviews of my friends they'd probably say 3.5 non-veggie stars

I have dined here since it was simply a grocery store with a lunch counter. If you like authentic Mexican food and friendly service, this is the place to be! The family who owns the restaurant are very nice folks and will remember you when you come back. Be sure to have the chicken enchiladas with green salsa - yum!

La Hacienda is on the above average side of your strip mall Mexican restaurants. Their chips and tortillas are the freshest in town as they have their own tortilla factory behind the business. You can get all of your typical combination plates or various house specialties. Prices and portion sizes are reasonable. My favorite item is the Chicken Soup which only served on Wednesdays. Service is always prompt and efficient. It is a solid choice for lunch but not a place where you are going to be raving about.

Recently, I've been busy exploring the rest of their menu but what got me hooked here are the chicken tortas. Right, it's just a Mexican sandwich but the bun is the best I've had of its kind. Probably because they're made next door in their bakery / bodega. Throw some sour cream, a drizzle of white cheese sauce and double avocado in there?... **James Brown grunt** Speaking of old records, Phonolux is next door which makes a trip here even more worth it. I've never had my car towed, popping in there after a meal to buy a bell-biv-devoe tape or def leopard jacket patch. Service is usually pretty good for me - although I always seem to have a series of servers. Rightfully so, finishing their 3 liter margarita (or whatever that fishbowl size is) can take some time.. even shift changes! Despite my opinion that their chairs look like a semi truck loaded with 2nd hand wicker and giant plantains crashed into a K-mart lawn and garden center in the '80s... the seating IS comfortable. Maybe it just sticks out to me because I remember what it was like before they got the "new" furniture. One more mini-rant- but this is kinda universal with places in this price bracket.. The tortilla chip offerings always seem to deceive with a layer of unbroken dippable chips on top of a basket full of dinky shards. Do you think I'm not going to see that!? Am I just supposed to dump the crumbs into the salsa, stir it up and eat it with a spoon? Is there some sort of micromanaged dual-bin scooping station back there with fresh and recycled chips!? I hope not... But what are you gonna do? Pony up and hit Cantina Laredo, I guess. I still give it a solid 3.99 stars for what it is.

Oh dear, I can only hope that once upon a time it was good here, There were about 60 peeps seated last night, only 3 of them were Latin, 'nuff said, clearly the "authentic clients" have done a runner. Our group of 7 waited almost an hour for our dinner and most of us had tacos. In that time we were subjected to the most bizarre tasting salsa of all time, tasteless guacamole and a runny almost watered down queso. The chips were equally horrendous. We did partake of margaritas and they were acceptable, anything from 10oz to 60oz glasses, most opted for the 16oz which is a standard water glass size and it washed away the salsa taste quite nicely. Fish Taco was rubbery and tasteless, Asada taco was rubbery and tasteless, Pastor was tasty, a sweet reddish sauce enveloping the pork. If you don't like cilantro tell them to hold it as each taco had it's own bushel. Service was humorless. My one star goes out to the cactus and the charred jalapeno as my side dish. Do yourself and your stomach a favor and try somewhere else, unless of course you like wearing a sombrero and having the waitstaff sing Happy Birthday, that's right no less than 3 gringo parties in one hour.

This restaurant is another prime example that the great people if Nashville have incredibly poor taste buds. In my 3.5 years in Nashville I've been mislead with recommendations for almost every ethnic food type available in Nashville. And La Hacienda is added to the list. I can tell if a mexican joint is going to be good quality after a single dip of a chip into the salsa. After the first dip the other night at La Hacienda I should have gotten up and walked out. If you think this is good mexican food you have been living at taco bell. Although I might put TB above this place. This food is awful. Canned Guac, sour salsa, dry tortillas, runny cheese dip, and a 48 hour stomach ache. How can this place have 3.5 stars??

Mexican food; where do we begin? Some is great, some good, most just plain bad and everyone seems to have an opinion. Like any notable cuisine it comes from a country with a huge diversity in climes & cultures. Besides the indigenous tribes, the food has been influences by the Spanish, Germans (beer and accordions), Americans and French (hence Cinco de Mayo). Even the Russians made their mark when Trotsky was assassinated there. My point is you can't fairly pigeonhole Mexican food. Without sounding too much like a know-it-all douche, I lived in the Southwest for years and have been to Mexico maybe 15-20 times; to 11 of the 31 states. I'm very passionate about Mexican food and I think I have a worthwhile opinion. I've also been eating at the original location since they were a hole in the wall and had counter service. Okay, here we go. La Hacienda is good and a few items are very good; arguably the best in Nashville. They don't have a trained chef nor do they have a couple of old ladies in the kitchen so you're going to get a lot of middle-of-the-road Mexican food-no mind blowing handmade moles here. The fish is tilapia and catfish so except for the shrimp (frozen product), no fresh seafood either. No biggie. I don't order burritos, fajitas, etc. either-anywhere. Highlights: -The tacos are done the right way for sure. Small soft corn tortillas, two per taco, well seasoned meat (they're all good), onions, cilantro, period. Pure street food. -Huevos con papas (add chorizo or bacon) with hot corn tortillas and black coffee. Breakfast doesn't get any better than this even in Paris (oops, I'm sounding like a douche again). -Posole, (hominy with pork) served only on the weekend, is just a solid bowl of soup. Good: -Chile Colorado-it's tasty though hardly a prime cut of beef. The guajillo (type of dried chile) sauce is good. Slightly spicy and pleasantly bitter. -Tamales-hardly the best in the world but the best I've found in town (try Karla's @ West Nashville Farmer's Market) -Chicken enchiladas with verde. yeah, they're pretty good. No nonsense. Things to skip: -The Carnitas are horrible here. I love carnitas but these truly suck the burro dong. -Carne asada-always overcooked and under-seasoned. Practically inedible. -Parrillada-a miracle no one has called the ASPCA on them for what they do to this meat menagerie. -Al Final

After everyone and their grandmother told me to check out La Hacienda for the "best Mexican place in Nashville", I succumbed. As a San Diego transplant, where one can throw a stone into Mexico, and also as someone who traveled through Mexico, my Mexican standards were very Mexican high. So I was not terribly disappointed to find myself terribly disappointed by the fare at La Hacienda. As a vegetarian, my options were quite few, although there was an explicit vegetarian section, but it seemed like an afterthought. The place was bright and cheerful and the waitresses absentmindedly spoke to me in Spanish (I take that as a compliment), but the food left a lot to be desired for and the waitress could not alter any meat dishes to make it meat-free. However, there is a bakery attached to this place and some of the pastries were pretty good (and cheap)

La Hacienda is easily my favorite Mexican restaurant in Nashville. It's much more authentic than the typical Mexican place. The weekend specials (goat, barbacoa, seafood stew, etc) are very interesting & I'd venture to say you won't find them anywhere else in Nashville. My favorite thing on the menu is the tostada de ceviche. It's catfish in a mix of white onion, tomato, cilantro and lime juice. So delicious & refreshing, and also nice and light. I usually order it on a tostada (basically a flat crunchy taco shell), but you can also order a larger version. Today I also had the vegetarian quesadilla - pretty darn good with mushrooms, peppers, onions & cheese. Another cool thing here are the condiments. I like the green salsa verde as well as the dried chili salsa - both standard on every table. The regular salsa here is pretty good too & I've always had fresh, warm chips. The margaritas are on the sour side but still good. I also noticed on this visit they are offering paletas from Las Paletas (YUM!). We'll continue to return here for years to come. The food, drinks, and service are all great! TIP: parking can be a bit difficult, but they do have a lot in the back which offers more spots. If you're coming from 440, pull into the drive just before the restaurant parking lot.

Mediocre food. Had cheese enchiladas and crispy beef tacos. Found food very bland and not "authentic", but then again I have travelled all over. Also was not crazy with the store bought chips and the store bought salsa.

Had a group of 10 go here for my brother's last night in town before his move. We are all local Nashvillians and most of us had been to this place MANY times. Even a few were saying how much they liked certain dishes, etc. For my past experiences here the service has been only okay and the food I never thought was anything special compared to other Mexican restaurants. I NEVER write reviews...but was compelled to after tonight- it was so bad. First, the waitress took an extremely long time to take our orders and had the orders screwed up right off the bat. We waited over an hour to even get the first few plates which weren't even the right orders (none of the food came out together). Then the waitress brought a few out that were sort of correct - but for example the enchilada dish had no cheese and had a lump of wilted lettuce thrown on top with other veggies...which isn't normal. Another plate had extra sour cream when none was ordered and another was missing some. One person's plate had an uncooked stuffed pepper and half way melted cheese and it tasted horrible. A few more didn't get there plates for several more minutes. This is the KICKER. One guy and myself NEVER GOT OUR FOOD AT ALL. He ordered a simple burrito and mine was a chicken taco salad. We waited nearly TWO HOURS-- and still never got our food!!!! We had complained a few times and the manager finally came over and only HALF ASSED apologized. He said will still had to pay for the margaritas and most of the food. WE DIDN'T EVEN GET OUR EFFIN' FOOD!!! The waitress NEVER came back to us after the first few plates were screwed up. EVERYONE IN THE WHOLE PLACE GOT THEIR FOOD AND ATE AND LEFT BY THE TIME THE MANAGER EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED US. It was as if the waitress would not serve us. I went straight up to her and asked why we never got food and she kept blaming the food preps. I told her I saw 5 taco salads go by to other tables. SHE NEVER EVEN FILLED OUR WATERS AT ALL. I have been to this place with huge groups and have NEVER had this big of a problem. I feel like we had been discriminated against. I AM ABSOLUTELY NEVER EVER GOING BACK TO THIS PLACE AND WILL WARN ANYONE AGAINST IT. I will stick to Tequila's in West Nashville where the food comes out extremely fast and is always delicious. LA HACIENDA YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been on the lookout for some delicious authentic Mexican food since I moved to Nashville a few months ago. I think I found that place. I met up with some friends for dinner last night at La Hacienda and I was impressed. One way you know you're in a good Mexican restaurant is the color of the queso. If it comes out orange or yellow you're in trouble. But, when its white you know you are winning! This queso was awesome. At some point if you consider drinking the queso with a straw, you know its the real deal. After eating what felt like an entire basket of chips by myself, somehow I was still hungry. So, I ordered the Bistec Ranchero. Steak, onions, and hot sauce cooked to perfection. yum. Served with a mandatory rice and beans. Oh and if your thirsty for a margarita La Hacienda can quench that thirst. All day Saturday + Sunday and M-F 5-8, you can get a 45oz margarita the size of your head for only $8.50. When I say its the size of your head, I really mean its the size of your head. It should be served with some advil for the next morning.

This is my 2nd favorite Mexican Resturant in Nashville. I would have written a review long ago, however, they had a fire in few months back, and recently re-opened. Wanted to make sure nothing changed post-fire and well I happy to report, it didnt. They cleaned the place up a bit actually. So win! I've heard a few stories about La Hacienda. That country stars would eat there, or they were one of the first Mexican Restaurants in Nashville (just like the story that Samurai was the first Sushi place) I dont know if any of those stories are factual ..but i believe them. Everyone knows about La Hacienda. The menu is huge. And if there is something you want them to put together mexican style they will. Often times they're busy (because its so great) but for the most part the service is fast. They have these old/leather/mexican style chairs that just crack me up. I love them. I usually get Speedy Gonzalez because I'm easy to please. The price is right, with most meals priced between $5-$13. You can get many items a la carte too. If you have issues parking in the front, they have about 10 spaces in the back of the building. Nolensville Road is shady in some parts, so lock your doors but its worth the drive if you're coming from the other side of town Enjoy!

I have been eating at La Hascienda since I was 8 years old. It was one table with 6-8 chairs at the back of a Mercado with only 4 things on the menu: tacos, tamales, gorditas and sopes. Since then they have renovated 5 or 6 times, the owner was killed in a hate crime and the widowed owner is still there every day with a smile on her face and a kind word. Several of the servers have been working there since the beginning as well. Marcello, one of my favorite people, has been there for 14years and remembers me from a child. I still spend most birthdays chugging back a 60oz. margarita and ordering off the left side of the menu (the original menu). Everything is wonderful! -the margarita mix is made from scratch. -the salsas are all made from scratch. -the tortillas and chips are made from scratch in the attached tortilla factory (if youre there during the day and want a tour, just ask.) -All the spices are mixed in house. Its as authentic as you can get to real Mexico. one word of caution: this is Mexican food, not Tex Mex and there is a huge difference.

I hate to write this review because one of the great things about Nashville is that it has actual authentic Mexican cuisine, not just Tex-Mex/Americanized Mexican food. By many accounts, La Hacienda is the best eating experience if you're after Mexican food that's not smothered in queso (not that there's anything wrong with queso)! Just not by my account as it turns out, because my recent trip to La Hacienda was bland and disappointing. The thing I love about Mexican food is its bright fresh flavors, and unfortunately these were utterly lacking in the dishes I ordered. I am a lover of lengua (tongue) and tripe tacos, so I ordered one of each, along with an "al pastor" (spicy pork) sope. Of the three items, the sope was the best, but both the tongue and tripe were pretty flavorless, tasting kind of gamey, but other than that, not like much of anything. The al pastor was unoffensive, but also not memorable. My husband ordered the chorizo burrito, and it was WAY too salty... also, his burrito was simply chorizo and a few measly chunks of avocado... no rice, no beans, nothing else. Rather than layers of flavor, this was just one solid wall of salt. Three-stars because this place is serving up the ghost of authentic Mexican food, and it's nice for people to see that you can get something other than chimichangas (though they have those too). Unfortunately the quality just wasn't there. If you look around the restaurant, it's mostly filled with gringos, many of whom I suspect are ordering the more Americanized offerings. If you're really jonesing for a sope, come here I guess, but otherwise you are much better off going to El Tapatio (3611 Nolensville Pike) which is so delicious and also offers birria! You may have to pantomime along with your English to be understood as it mostly caters to non-English speakers, but it is so worth it! All told, the best thing I had here was the corn popsicle from Las Palletas that they were selling by the cash register. My husband and I won't be coming back here when we want our next Mexican fix.

I really hate to leave a bad review but we were just so disappointed with this place. Our service was TERRIBLE. The waitress was so awkward anytime we asked for anything and it would take forever to get anything we asked for. She kept standing nearby but with her back turned to us, flirting with some guy. Out of the four adults in our party only one liked the food but we all hated the service.

Best Mexican in Nashville (besides a taco stand). This is the real DEAL mexican. Not that horrible made for stupid fat americans Tex-Mex crap. Ceviche. Taco's on CORN tortilla's the way its meant to be. Chorizo Taco's. Whole damn fishes flopped on your table (if you want it). Margarita's so big you'll think you are motorboatin Dolly Parton. You know its good when you are 1 of 2 white boys in the place. That's legit man.

We used to love this place. Not the same. Door was opened one Sunday before 10 so we went in - waitress was a little rude about it after we sat down - they clearly didn't want our business so we went down the road. Not planning to go back anytime soon. So disappointing.

(note: *La Hacienda recently contacted me in response to the review below and assured me of their commitment to cleanliness. They were very sweet and polite and I'm down to stop back in due to their effort to keep customers happy.) My memory of a meal is usually only good for a couple weeks and then it just fades away into the abyss. As a result of waiting to review this place for a over a month I only have a few tidbits left: My table was dirty. My margarita was drinkable. While the food in general was fine, full of cheese and lard and all that good stuff- the tortillas were FANTASTIC. Obviously homemade- they had great texture and were grilled beautifully. I loved them. We'll go back just for a fistful of those tortillas.

Whatever they've done after the kitchen fire is working for them. We stopped in yesterday for a quick bite, and I must say....everything was beyond better than my previous visits. No questions about it.. the service and the quality have taken a turn for the better. Do not miss on the tamales and the sope.

BEST margaritas!!!! The two for one deal is pretty sweet and the taste great. The food to me is ok, but my husband (a huge mexican food fan) LOVES the food. The tortilla chips are fresh tasting and the salsa is excellent. The service is good. We have not had a bad experience.

One of the standard Mexican restaurants in the Nashville area. Good Magazine rated this restaurant's street as one of the tastiest streets in America. I always rate a Mexican restaurant by their chips and salsa. They always set the tone for the rest of the meal. Unfortunately, La Hacienda has the second worst chips and salsa I've ever had at a restaurant. In this situation, my judge the restaurant philosophy doesn't work. The food is pretty dang good and wonderfully affordable.

In 2007, we had some mighty fine tacos here. This time, I had a fish taco with slice of avocado (good), and the "Filete de Pescado Frito" (better). Basically, it's broiled catfish, served with corn tortillas, a veggie mix of lettuce, tomato, peppers, and onions, alongside a serving of rice. Throw on a little salsa, and it's quite tasty. The place is clean, with friendly servers, and a new TV on the wall. There's a fair selection of bottled beers, but nothing on tap.

Best fish tacos I've ever had. Totally delicious even when I went right before closing. Slice of avocado on each taco, the fish isn't battered so it gave it a really light, fresh taste! The tacos are mini size so I recommend at least 2-3 tacos for a serving. I got it to go and didn't get a chance to try anything else, but I will definitely be back. Service...hmmm, the second time I went, they NEVER came back to give us our bill. When we went to the counter they said our server went on break. Not cool after waiting an hour, but I will let it slide since the pitcher of martguerita was tasty and the tacos were A+. If you sit indoors, bring a sweater, it's freezin' in this place!

If there is one thing Nolensville Road is known for, it's being packed with dozens of authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex style restaurants. And of all the choices Nolensville has to offer, this one is undoubtedly my favorite. The servers are polite and quick, the food is delicious and cheap, and the margaritas are oh so tasty. Honestly, La Hacienda isn't exactly big on atmosphere. The whole restaurant is basically one large cafeteria style room, the floor is tiled and the mural behind the cash register isn't exactly expertly painted (although I like it). But despite the sub par atmosphere, the food is some of the best that can be found in the area for the price. The staff at La Hacienda is very sweet, and I enjoy my meal every time I'm there. It's a pretty great spot to go with a large group of friends (especially if you're looking to have a margarita or two). I know that Nashville is packed with authentic (and allegedly authentic) Mexican joints, but this one is honestly in my top five...and that's saying something.

I feel like i was sold a bill of goods by all the Yelpers who claimed this is the best Mexican food outside of Mexico. I expected a much more authentic experience. The homemade tortillas are good, but not great. The margaritas are weak. Another strikeout for Mexican food in the 'ville.

With so many Mexican food restaurants around (and I wish I could try them all), I've found that there are certain ones I go to when I'm craving a particular dish. Each one seems to have their specialties, and I have found that to be true with La Hacienda. While there are many items on their menu that I have not tried yet, there are a couple that already stand out. Their tacos are some of the best I've had, especially the chicken tacos. They are served on two small corn tortillas with just the meat, diced onions, and cilantro. All you have to do is squeeze on some lime juice or their salsa verde to make them excellent. Nothing elaborate, just basic and good. I would also highly recommend the breakfast dishes, which are served all day. In particular, the Chorizo con Papas. The chorizo is mixed in with diced potatoes, and they get the chorizo and potatoes nice and crispy. The dish is served with the standard rice, beans, and tortillas. Very filling and exactly like a dish made for me by a Mexican friend. I haven't seen that exact dish on the menu anywhere else in Nashville so far.

Hands down my favorite place to get AUTHENTIC Mexican food, not the run of the mill Americanized version you find in most Mexican joints. This is a family run business and they definitely know what they are doing and do it well. They also host my local car club get-to-gethers for us even when asked to do so during busy weekend hours, we really appreciate that. Bring your taste buds, bring an appetite and enjoy.

While its not Mexico, I think they're doing a really great job. Probably the best Mexican I've had in Nashville. Milanesa sandwich is very good and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Definitely worth checking out.

Order off the first couple of pages of the menu, and it's hard to go wrong. Avoid the combination dinners or Fajitas unless you want Tex-Mex, because it's easy to order wrong at these places. Tortillas are not fresh, nor is the salsa. Check them out on weekends for authentic soups and stews like menudo and pozole.

Food was good but not great. Unless you are here for the margaritas (huge, cheap, and handover-inducing), you should drive a little further down Nolensville to Las Americas for better food.

This is a cute little place off of Nolensville Road, and the guys that drug a friend and I here assured us not to be put off by the area. Once inside, I could see how it would be easy not to worry about it anymore. It was cozy, and kind of set into the ground. They have some great fish tacos, and authentic Mexican beer. If you order the nacho platter, find someone to share it wish. And if you do order a beer, ask for the dark one. It's super yummy.

Great service, pretty fast, and we've never had to wait for a table, Pretty authentic food, would definitely recommend the carnitas. Sometimes the parking lot gets crowded, but street parking isn't too bad.

I'm not impressed with this place at all. I visited on a Sunday night around 8:40pm. Upon sitting down the waiter asked for our drink orders and I asked her to bring waters while I take a quick look at the drink menu. She said I needed to hurry because they were getting ready to close at 9. Now I can understand not letting anybody in after 9, but you don't tell a customer what time you close! We ordered 16 oz magaritas for about $6. The mix was not good, and it didn't have much alcohol in it at all! It's one thing for it not to taste great, but not to get a buzz either is two strikes!. Lastly the food was small and overpriced. I ordered the shrimp quesdilla for $4 which is not expensive by any means, sut for what I got was not worth it at all! I got a small maybe 8 or 10 inch tortilla with shrimp and cheese. Taste was ok, but so not worth it. Best thing was salsa, which was a little spicy but had good taste. Don't waste your time and money here. Las Palmas, Las Maracas, and Pancho Villa Grill are much better choices. I guess that's what I get for trying something new.

Like some of my other reviews, I also give this restaurant a 4 stars, because it is the best of its kind in the Nashville area . . . or at least our favorite. There's a few other sister stores, but this one is the best and most consistent in quality of food preparation. Some items to try: --beef soup - very good w/ the added fresh chopped onions and lime --ceviche - a little fishy, but at least you can get it --shrimp coctail - the "cocktail' that it comes in is a mild tomatoey taste . . . a must try on the saltines. --shrimp cameroon (??) - very cheesy and greasy

I kind of feel like if I am going to a restaurant that serves ethnic cuisine, I really like to be in the minority. It's the whole go where the locals go kind of ideal but for ethnic food. Alas I want to see a whole lot of Latino people if I am going for Mexican. Taqueria is definitely the real deal and if you have a hankering for Mexican and you don't want a speedy Gonzales then please give this place a try. The menu has meal options but they also have a # of A ll carte items that my husband and I end up getting. Tacos, quesadillas, etc.. However, the thing my husband and I love to get are the papusas. They are deep fried tortillas with your choice of meat and cheese inside. They then bring you a side of cabbage relish to top it. The whole combination is stunning. I got a burrito thing (I forgot the name) and for $3.50 it's ginormous and the sauce combinations are amazing. The dining room is small ,the service is extremely efficient and there is a little grocery attached so you can get some staples for your kitchen if you need.

La Hacienda seems to evoke varying opinions and emotions in people. I think this stems from the expectations that we Nashville diners have from a Mexican restaurant. Here is the way I have come to think of it: if you want the standard fare of meat enveloped in some sort of tortilla, covered with cheese and sour cream, don't eat here, pick almost anywhere else. If you would like to eat Mexican food that Mexican people eat, eat here. Here you will find tacos that are resplendent in their simplicity: meat, (steak or chicken) onions, cilantro, lime. Note that there is no cheese, lettuce, or sour cream to dull the flavors. If you want fantastic shrimp cocktails, fish tacos, or ceviche, eat here. Contrary to other opinions, I say La Hacienda is a fine place for a first or second date, having actually done that. It's a place that although is lacking in romantic ambiance, has an authenticity perfect for finding out just the right things about that new person. Share a 60oz margarita (made and served best by waiter Margarito - that really is his name). If you go here often, the staff will remember you and spoil you accordingly. On a recent birthday celebration we got free shots of Petron and general merriment. Other things to try are the guacamole, which is truly delicious. The classic burrito is a meal in itself for only $3.99. One of my favorite tricks is the shrimp quesedilla with added lime and cilantro. I will admit that dining at La Hacienda is all about knowing what to order. The best way to do this is sit, order some guacamole and a margarita, and watch what comes out of the kitchen. If you're feeling especially adventurous, you can even order tripe or tongue!

I finally got around to checking out my new neighborhood, and La Hacienda was first on my list. I couldn't be more stoked that I have an awesome Mexican restaurant less than a mile away from my house. I've had the ceviche, most of the burritos, and the tacos so far, and I haven't been disappointed yet. Always had good service, tasty food, and a freaking awesome price. Needless to say, I'm a BIG fan of this place, and will be heading there again soon!

After all the great reviews here and on Google, I gave it a try, but lunch today was the most disgusting meal so far in Nashville, so I don't know what everyone else is smoking. This is Gringo food that no Mexican person would touch. Nearly everything was straight out of the can, and that was the best part. Whatever they prepared from scratch was awful: dry, crumbly chicken; old, mud-flavored fish, etc. The service was bored and distracted, and the ambience was cheap, smelly and grim--why were all the lights out at lunchtime? I don't know, but I could barely see my menu. Every other slightly-Mexicanish, faux-fiesta, Gringo-haven in Nashville is better than this. Put it another way: I did not see any Latino customers here at all, and I understand why. They go where the food is fresh, like the various taco trucks, the incredible Carniceria San Luis on Harding Pl, or Los Primos in Franklin. Mexican people stand in line at those places, and I will gladly follow them.

Not that thrilled really. My first impression from any Mexican joint is made from the salsa. Naturally it's the first thing to hit the table and if the salsa is good, the rest of the meal typically is aswell. In this case, I was a little let down. The salsa was very watery, lacked flavor and spice. Sadly, the rest of the meal followed suit. With so many Mexican places in the area I sincerely doubt I will return.

Though I cannot attest that "Authentic Mexican" exists in Nashville, I can tell you that after a 60oz. margarita you could be eating Chinese food and not notice. For those ardent telenovela fans, La Hacienda makes sure that you will never have to miss an episode due to persistent burrito cravings. On a side note.... I'm not sure if this is my California snobbery coming through, after all I was raised in the land of burritos, nachos, and tacos, but why is it that Nashville Mexican food places refuse to put my rice and beans in the burritos where they should be? Oh well, I guess I'll have to go through the extra effort of mixing the rice, beans, tortilla and meat together in mouth myself. Back to La Hacienda. I think as far as Mexican Food in Nashville goes, this place bodes well. I'm giving it four stars mostly due to the fact that their servers are always friendly and keep the previously mentioned margaritas flowing. Their fajitas are, in fact, delicious, but nothing else stands out. I'm a big fan of 'queso' but due mostly to the fact that it's just melted cheese, I cannot in good conscience tell people to come to La Hacienda for just the 'queso'. I can, however, in good conscience tell you to come for the margaritas and good environment.

I'm going to give La Hacienda four stars. Mostly because everyone I know says this is the best Mexican food in Nashville. I have to say, it is pretty good, and cheap and fast which is what I usually expect out of a Mexican joint. It's also a step up from a lot of places in town. For some reason, I just don't love La Hacienda, though. Other reviewers have talked about the lack of ambience. I don't really think that's it since I've mostly been during the day for lunch with people from work and ambience isn't really an issue. La Hacienda was right down the street from where I used to work and people were going there all the time. This one kid just absolutely loved it. I'm starting to think I just got spoiled by my trips to Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona and got really used to the tasty Mexican food out there. I'd definitely recommend La Hacienda if you are looking for good Mexican. The service is very friendly, and they don't have a problem with big groups for lunch. I had a chilie relleno which was good, but I think I'll still keep hoping I find some Mexican that blows me away.

Went for lunch and had the fish taco and carne asada taco. The carne asada was the tiniest taco I've ever seen but it was not bad. The fish taco was forgettable. My husband had the enchiladas which were pretty good. The service was good but the food was just okay. Being from Texas, we're pretty picky about Mexican food. This was more Tex-Mex rather than authentic Mexican food.

Fresh tables are coming soon from Mexico, but the real Mexican food continues. A fresh remodel after a fire, and some new menu items help keep this one-restaurant tradition interesting. New molcajete with meat, cactus, banana peppers and goat cheese, and new quesadillas are nice additions. La Hacienda Taqueria stands alone - back like a phoenix!

My friends and i used to frequent La Hac a fair bit before we got a Las Palmas location that was even closer (and cleaner than their west end spot). The atmosphere at La Hacienda is a little bland, feeling more like a high school cafeteria than a real dining establishment, but the food has always been pretty good. As far as "tex mex" goes, this doesn't rank too high on my list. I grew up an hour from Mexico in south texas, and the flavor at la hacienda is a little bland and lacking in the spice/heat department. The enchiladas are decent with the green sauce, but nothing special. Breakfast burritos were always the safest bet in my opinion. Drinks are good and cheap - they have a HUGE margarita option for something like $9, which made it a great place for friends to go celebrate hurricane Rita hitting our homes in texas a few years back...

This place rivals El Jaliciense in Inglewood for authenticity in local Mexican restaurants. La Hacienda Taqueria makes its own tortillas and (here's where the points for authenticity come in) serves menudo y posole on weekends and serves meat entrees in a molcajete (stone mortar and pestle) with cactus on its regular menu. The only thing that is missing is a great mole (chocolate sauce that tastes awesome with chicken and other meats). I also love this place for its huge 60 oz. margaritas and 2-for-1 specials (10 and 16 oz.) on Mon-Thurs. I will say, though, that I wish the sopapillas were truly of the Mexican and Central American style- fluffy quick breads with an airy pocket. Here at La Hacienda and many other Nashville Mexican restaurants, the sopapillas resemble more of a simple fried tortilla topped with honey and cream (in the style of tortas fritas, which are more South American than Mexican). This is a huge disappointment if you're used to the fluffy, warm deliciousness of a sopapilla back in AZ. Sadly, the only place in Nashville I have seen so far with this style of sopapilla is at the otherwise touristy Chuy's. By the way, if the thought of menudo scares you (it's a spicy soup with tripe), I swear nothing is better for a hangover. So, come to La Hacienda for the 60 oz. margarita and return the next morning for the traditional menudo hangover cure.

The tacos are amazing and the beef enchiladas melt in your mouth, if go here twice a week, it's that good. Fresh guacamole, salsa, and the sour cream, I could just eat that alone.

Tremendous Mexican food! It is authentic, well-cooked, fresh, and genuine! I got to-go, and there was plenty of salsa to go with my chorizo, al pastor, and carne asada tacos. They also give you plenty of chips and salsa! I can see why many people want to come down here.

This is why I love Nashville! With 1.6 million people in the metro area, it's big enough to have lots of cultural experiences and amazing restaurants, yet not big enough to have "big city" problems. La Hacienda is one of these restaurants that makes Nashville what it is! Their chicken tamales have the perfect texture and flavor. Their enchiladas are so perfectly crafted they remind me of my favorite Mexican eateries in Los Angeles (and that's saying something). I've never had the tacos, but what I've eaten at La Hacienda is always perfect!!! Outside of Mas Tacos Por Favor, this is the best Mexican food you can get in this town!

Many different choices of Mexican dishes in this restaurant. The cooks are fast and the food is tasty. Service can improve a bit, but overall, this is the to-go place if you are craving for some Mexican food.

Had three tacos- pollo, pastor, and chorizo. Every one of them was bad. Pollo was flavorless, chorizo and pastor were overcooked, and didn't taste right. Six hours later, I'm hit with a sour stomach. Never going back again.

Slow, slow, slow. Margaritas are bland and tasted of zero alcohol. Chips came from a bag and def are not fresh, and abs zero water dropped off at table, or refills. Food is meh, I mean, it is what it is. It's your basic Mexican place, nothing more, nothing less. Don't have too high of hopes but it will fulfill your needs.

Was looking for an authentic restaurant & found La Hacienda. Skeptical at first until I saw Mexicans at the restaurant. I then knew this was for sure the reeeaaal deal! Lol. I had taco de carne asado and it wasn't anything different. It was good but the best that I've had was their RICE! It was so good! Their service is okay. It wasn't terrible but my pet peeve is when I see waiters wipe the table & don't catch the dirt but just push it all off the table. Overall, I give it a 3 mainly because of the service.

My Food was great! I ordered the chicken and cheese enchiladas with grilled veggies and red enchilada sauce. (Forgot the name of the dish). My husband ordered a burrito and he said it was average, but we both loved the sauces on the table, and the salsa. Service was fine, food came quickly, and I had leftovers for lunch the following day.

Probably the best breakfast burrito I've ever had, and I lived in Southern California for 10 years so I have a lot of breakfast burrito experience! I got the one with chorizo & egg, and they give you a huge bag of chips & salsa with it - all for under $5.

Sad to say this place has not really improved since my last review. I have gone back hoping that things had improved and the of thing that has changed is some of the female waitstaff have become even more rude and have taken to wearing push up bras in hopes of bigger tips. Food quality has not improved at all. Guacamole is from a bag. Taco Bell a better choice at this point.

    (2)
  • Scott M.

Wow. Completely disgusting!!!!!! The wait staff was completely indifferent to us when we walked in. It was bad to the point that I thought maybe they weren't open yet, and I was early. But at 2 in the afternoon, not likely. The waiter took us to our table, literally threw down a couple of menus and walked away without even taking our drink order. I always get water with lemon. I don't do soft drinks much and I wasn't in the mood for a cocktail. But maybe if I had a darker or cloudier drink I wouldn't have noticed how dingy the water and glass were. It was an authentic serving of water from Mexico. No doubt.......... I got a combination platter and the beef burrito was actually pretty good. Nothing else on my plate remotely resembled what I had ordered. And the salad was so friggin' watery. Beans and rice were not in short supply though. Lots and lots of filler on the plate. Not much in the way of sustenance. In short, dirty. Rude. And skimpy.

  • Nicole P.

I wanted to like you, La Hacienda. I really did. Buuuuuut Your service blows. I tried twice, but with equal experiences both times. It took forever to be acknowledged when we walked in; even longer for our order to be taken; we had to ask for refills; and it took our server, oh, 10 minutes to bring us our check (after we asked for it, of course). The servers were all too busy standing around talking to each other to actually, you know, serve customers. Makes sense. Unfortunately, the food was not worth the hassle. Grilled chicken tacos were dry, chili verde was weird, the fajitas were bland, and the salsa tasted kind of like flavored ketchup. However, the green sauce in the bottle is yummy and their rice was fluffy and quite good. In summary, meh.

I visited La Hacienda last night with my boyfriend & his friend. I've been to this location a couple of times before. The parking out front is terrible. Be prepared to park in the lot behind their building if they are busy. I ordered chicken & shrimp fajitas, which is the only dish I've ever tried here. It was very tasty! We also got a pitcher of strawberry margaritas which were also good. I have no complaints with the food & drinks, but the service could have been better. Our waitress was a bit inattentive and nonchalant. However, after a few margaritas, we didn't notice it anymore, lol. I wish they had happy hour on Fridays (Mon-Thurs only). Overall, nice Mexican food & fairly priced.

  • Alex P.

I can't say it's the best Mexican I've ever had, but it was pretty good. I would note the super cool chairs and tables and the sweet waitress. I was thrilled that they had horchatas and the perfect cheese dip. Made my day! However, sliced avocado was way too ripe and not good. And the guacamole was a pastel green color... Not normal. Either the avocado was too ripe or maybe they put too much of something because it tasted more of citrus. The yellow rice was fine. That's hard to mess up on, but the beans were mushy, some might say that's authentic so I guess it's a matter of personal choice. The steak and veggies for the quesadillas were fine, but I think the steak could have been juicier or something. Overall, I'd say the experience was pretty good and I'd definitely come back, but I don't know if I'd go out of my way (passing dozens of other Mexican restaurants) to get here. This is a cool place to sit with friends, have drinks- alcoholic or not, and maybe have chips with salsa or cheese dip. I might try something other than steak fajitas if having a meal here.

The service wasn't outstanding but that was okay with me. She didn't bother us and we flagged her down when we were ready to go. No big deal. We both had a chicken and steak molajete and it was quite good :-) This was my first time here so I can't speak on the other dishes but this was tasty and more food then I could possibly eat in one sitting! The margarita on the rocks was good as well! The chips and salsa were average. Very few places in Nashville make their own chips so I have come not to expect that. The salsa was a tomato based salsa but it had a good flavour. We'll be back.

My wife and I go here just about every Friday. We love it. It is in our neighborhood so that helps but even before I lived close I would come and enjoy. I've been coming to laha for close to fifteen years now and it has never disappointed. The classic burritos and the authentic tacos are delicious. I also really love their cocktail de cameron (shrimp cocktail)

This place is okay. The mix drinks love it! Staff is friendly. Food was good just not to my standards. They said authentic however I disagree. The sauce they have is watered down and not they good. I have better sauce from a taco stand. Price is average your really paying for the atmosphere.

I love Mexican food. Most of the time when I am hungry and not exactly sure what I want for dinner, I settle on tacos, burritos or enchiladas. It is the comfort food that I never had growing up. For some strange reason, my family never ate at Mexican restaurants. It wasn't until High School that I discovered the pure magic that is re-fried beans. So I guess with all my Mexican food consumption lately, I'm just making up for lost time. La Hacienda on Nolensville Road is my go-to place for quick, quality Mexican grub. The space is large and bright. The service is friendly and fast. The margaritas are enormous, and the food is good. They have a variety of food, ranging from the familiar chicken quesadillas to the more adventurous tripe tacos (my absolute favorite thing in the world). I'm on a personal mission to find the best tripe taco in Nashville. If you are new to this blog and don't know about my predilection for all the "gross" parts of the animal, I apologize. But I love to eat the stuff that most people find too gross. La Hacienda makes, hands down, the best tripe taco I have had in Nashville. The tripe is fried crispy, but still retains the soft chewy goodness. I feel that most people fry the S#*& out of it and it ends up tasting like burnt bacon. But really good tripe is heaven! I also had a beef tongue taco and a cheese enchillada. The enchillada was just OK, but the tongue was great. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that La Hacienda shines in the taco department. Oh and the chips?! They have really good fresh fried chips with some tasty salsa. Their salsa is just a bit more spicy than your average table offerings. All things considered, I really like this place. You really can't go wrong with grabbing some grub at La Hacienda. Oh, did I mention it's cheap? My whole plate of food was about $8!

  • Megan T.

There are a lot of good options for Mexican food down Nolensville road. But when I'm in the mood for a place to chill with friends or family and a margarita, this is my place. They have a huge menu. Food is always fresh and tasty. Chips and salsa are consistently good. Everyone I've taken has been pleased with this place. The $9 weekend special on their ginormous margaritas doesn't hurt.

I went last week for the first time after hearing that Obama stopped by. The dining room felt a little cramped, but other than that, everything was fantastic. I had some dish with eggs and beef but the name escapes me. Regardless, the wait staff was friendly, service was fast, and the food was excellent. I'll be back!

I've been twice now to this restaurant and I've only gotten more disappointed. The first time we went was for 16th district Margarita Mondays but we came a bit earlier since we were already over that way. During their happy hour I was told the margaritas were buy one get one free. I tried to order a frozen strawberry margarita but our server told us that wasn't part of happy hour and was extra. I told him that was fine and he kept going off about something so I settled on a regular frozen margarita. I think the language barrier is what stopped me from having my strawberry margarita. I could barely understand my first server and I honestly think he couldn't understand me. I had to point to what I wanted on the menu. Second time around, I had family in town and they wanted late night Mexican so we ended up here. Our server was very sweet and chatty but not as attentive as I would've liked. I had to go to the front desk and tell them we were ready to order. I decided on a pollo loco which is grilled chicken with a jalapeno cheese sauce. My daughter had something similar but wanted to add rice and beans. Our server told her she couldn't do it and to try something else. We tried explaining back to her that it was a different item altogether that she was suggesting and we were willing to pay extra for substituting. She said she didn't know if she could do it so I told her I was positive that she could and I would wait while she asked the manager. She came back and said it wouldn't be a problem. When our order came out, the cheese on the chicken was not like the picture at all. It was very watered down and the chicken was dry. Everyone that ordered chicken (most of our party) had the same complaint. When our server came back, I explained that there was hardly any jalapeno cheese on my chicken and could I get a small side. She came back with a queso that was like the kind they serve with chips. Again I think there was a language barrier issue. I might go back for happy hour margaritas but I think I'll have better luck going to one of the taco trucks on Nolensville for food then this place.

The salsa was very good. But the key ingredient in our dishes which is the meat (beef) is over cooked. It was so dry. It wasn't seasoned. The steak is chopped into very small pieces. It looked like it was precooked. Our beef burrito and tacos were brought out roughly 5 minutes. The onions and cilantro were fresh. The refried bean and rice were good. The chopped lettuce was fresh as well. Why were the beef over cooked?

I have had lunch here many times and it is above average. Where this place really shines is Sunday morning breakfast. They have a great variety of authentic mexican dishes. I usually get the Chivo(Goat) Stew but also switch it out with the Chorizzo con Papas(Sausage and potatoes) and a few other dishes. When the wife asks me where I would like to have breakfast, this is nearly always my answer.

Bummer. I was hoping all the great reviews from some of my friends indicated a transformation of this place. La Hacienda has enjoyed a long tenure as one Nashville's most beloved "authentic" cocina de Mexicano...because of tenure, IMHO. I moved here from the West Coast where we picked up our food from the homes of old ladies from Mexico throwing down enchiladas, chili colorado, tamales, chili verde, and stuffings for tacos. When we arrived here in the early 80s there was one joint down on Murf Road across from Channel 2 and then a spot on Nolensville Road, and then La Hacienda, and then Las Palmas...and...and...well, never mind about the history of Mexican food in Nashville. I learned many years ago that La Hacienda wasn't up to par with what should be considered "good" Mexican food and things haven't changed. La Hacienda's food is mediocre at best. The enchilada sauce tastes like it comes from a can which is a sin. The fajitas while meaty, lack the depth of seasoning and the caramelization that should come from proper searing (the same goes for the onions, peppers, and tomatoes served with the meat). The street taco in the form of chicken was not very good due to the bland flavor. Oh, the rice was boring as all get out but included peas and carrots and the refried beans lacked any creaminess or flavor. Some good news about the food, the carne asada tacos were good with salsa. The cheese dip was room temp, but had a nice flavor without any spice. The table salsa was canned tomato with some fresh onion, cilantro and chili and was a good for eating with the nice chips (thick). The ambience has nice murals of typical Mexican story telling. The tables and chairs are in the Equipale fashion with wood frames covered in leatheresque material. I'm a sucker for cool chairs and tables. The big draw back is that the overhead canned lighting is blaring fluorescent bulbs. Nothing makes people's skin tone look worse than the green cast from the unflattering bulbs. Additionally, it's cast produces a cold vibe and just lame. The mediocre food , the poor lighting, and over-hyped sensation of Nashville's "BEST"...and it's unmerited popularity among non-hispanics...this place is a bummer. The silver lining...they do serve Las Paletas out of a help yourself freezer by the cashier. I suppose I can stop by here and grab a popsicle after I eat better "authentic Mexican food" at Casa Fiesta in the ghetto of Hickory Hollow.

Excellent Mexican food. I ordered the lunch fajitas for dinner and still had some to take home. I'm still looking for a place in Nazzy that has soft sopapillas (no cinnamon sugar please!) ready for lots of honey.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
