A little above the average Americanize Mexican restaurant in Nashville. The carnitas were very good.

Solid traditional combo plates, good chunky house salsa with a nice selection of bottled hot sauces. It's kind of a hole in the wall but it's clean & has a nice quiet atmosphere. Definitely coming back

Definitely better than the run of the mill Mexican places that seem to be co oped. The Chili Relleno was delicious. A nice light batter. The tacos de carne asada were good. Mexican style with onions and cilantro. 3" corn tortilla shells doubled. It looks like they can handle a crowd. The fun part for me is that President Obama stopped in for a to go order last week!! If its good enough for the POTUS its good enough for me.

Food was below average. Service was slow and waiter was extremely rude, didn't even ask how things were at any time during the night. Never would I go back or recommend to anyone.

So. Freakin'. Good. This is my absolute favorite Mexican place in Nashville. My husband and I go here all the time. I usually get the Chiles Rellenos & he usually gets the Chimichangas Especiales. The food is plentiful and cooked correctly. What I really like about the chiles is they come stuffed with cheese (no meat), lightly fried with salsa roja on top. It's the way to go. Of course, there's free chips & salsa. Service is good and they have pretty good drink specials, too. Donelson is pretty quiet for the most part so they are not open that late. A small price to pay, in my opinion. Getting take out? I'm pretty sure they are the only Mexican restaurant around that will still hook you up with free chips & salsa on a to-go order. How cool is that? They usually include 1 bag of chips & 1 cup of salsa per entrée. I dig it. Affordable as you'd expect from a place like this. Most entrees run you $8-$10. Check it out.

Food was good. Chips and salsa were great! Lot's of food per serving.

We live down the road and go there frequently. Not the best Mexican food I've ever had (I grew up in LA), but we enjoy it. The staff is nice and they are always quick to throw together a take out order for us.

DON'T judge a book by its cover. From the outside the shopping center is rather run down/old and the restaurant is very unassuming looking. Had a layover while traveling and after reviewing yelp decided to give it a try. Good carnitas, overall good experience, give it a try!

Typical delicious Mexican cuisine with a very friendly staff. The homeless woman outside kinda turned me off a bit. The meal was great during our brief stay in Nashville!

Typical east coast Mexican Restaurant with one exception, above average food, way above. I perused the menu till I stumbled upon the Carnitas and I love Carnitas also Carne Adovada when I can get it. They were done very well with just the right amount of spices and very tender and served with some perfectly done corn tortillas, the dish was succulent and the sides of refried beans and rice were perfect which isn't hard to do but I've been to many "Mexican" joints that just can't do rice and beans right. Served with Lettuce, tomatoes and big dollop of real tasty Guacamole for a truly memorable dinner. Now the best part, with Ice Tea it was all under $10!! Mexican food is not expensive food to make or prepare and to see a restaurant do it right for a decent price with great service is a rarity. Way recommended!!

Wow! I know there's some hate going on here but I've enjoyed the place on the handful of visits I've made during my travels to Nashville. Lets just stick to the most recent visit. Feeling hungry I went all out and ordered the Jalisco's Tacos with one chicken, one pork, and one steak. They were served in the traditional style of two corn tortillas with onion, cilantro and a lime. All three were very tasty. I also included a sliced avocado which to my surprise was a whole avocado! Also had a side of beans and rice which were pretty standard. The best thing was a little tip from the Yelp photos, I ordered the Chili Toreados. These beautiful jalapeño's that are split on one end, deep fried and dusted with chili powder! Holy cow they were amazing!!! They also have a good bottled beer selection of some Mexican favorites as well as the standard draft fare.

This place has pretty good authentic Mexican food. They give you plenty of chips and salsa for free to start and the prices are very reasonable. I had the soft tacos and they were almost as good as tacos I had in Guatemala, served very simple with meat, cilantro and onions. And it was great that they had non Mexican meals for kids (chicken nuggets and cheeseburger).

Closes at 9 on a Saturday. What the heck? Also before we knew that, while waiting inside the door at 10 til 9, we were simply told they're closed. Won't be back.

I first discovered this place when I worked in a call center behind it. It has by far been my favorite Mexican restaurant. I always order their Shredded Chicken Nachos. Their chicken is never dried out. They give you a lot of food. I also love their tortilla chips & salsa. There's is way better than las palmas, and all the other chain Mexican restaurants.

Great service, good food, the homeless person was still sitting outside... Chips were good, not too salty, and the queso was great as was the salsa. Per my daughter, the fish tacos were filling. Tajitas were average, and the t-bone was ok, they were out of Carnitas : (

This is the best Mexican restaurant close to my job...thus far. I like it because they use bacon in their food which makes it unbelievably flavorful. Bacon + me= LOVE! But seriously, the food is decent. Service is just ok and could be so much better. My co-worker orders the steak fajita nachos and I have to admit, I love it but I don't order it because she usually gives me some of hers. I usually just order the fajitas and that is good enough w/some of her nachos. Salsa and chips are average but at least it's fresh.

I will take back my above review b'coz: 1. They don't hear to customers - I ordered a veggie fajita "WITH NO MEAT" and what I got was with Chicken fajita. The waitress replaced it and got me Veggie fajita and once again I saw pieces of chicken in the fajita. ( I didn't eat the rest as I was really pissed off). 2. They don't apologize - The lady never apologized me for the mistake. Final words: I am NEVER EVER going back to Jalisco Mexican Restaurant.

Great place! Yummy food and attentive service. I went with a group of over 60 people and that should have been a night mare for the converge factor alone. NOPE... we got hot yummy food with wonderful attentive service! If you order the Especial it says it's for 2 people... you WILL need a doggie bag. Loaded with tasty shrimp, potatoes, beef, pork and chicken with beans, cheese, tomato and lettuce sides. If that is not enough you get 1/2 quesadilla with it too! Highly recommend if you're in the Donelson area or need to stop by before you catch your flight at BNA.

Why 4 stars for Jalisco? Value & flavor. Realistically, it's kind of hard to judge Mexican food as so many are so similar. I bumped the rating here to a 4 for a few reasons. #1, they gave me a huge bowl of pretty decent salsa. I hate running out and that is usually the case at most restaurants. I ordered the fajita combo and it was not only large, there was plenty of meat, not just grilled veggies. My server was attentive without being a pain. I can recommend this place.

Food was nasty. Cheese dip was runny. Food was apparently reheated. Last time I will go there.

This was the worst Mexican restaurant I have ate at in the Nashville area. The meat in the entree I ordered was terrible looking-I could not tell if it was supposed to be ground beef (as described in the menu), shredded beef or chunks of beef. It was so disgusting looking I couldn't even take a bite. When concerns over the dish were voiced to the waiter, he was rude-offered no apology or replacement. Poor food quality and customer service. There are much better choices in the area.

I wish I'd just gone to Taco Bell and bought a bottle of Tequila. I've only been to one worse Mexican restaurant in all my life and it's closed down. Welcome to the bottom spot, Jalisco. I sat at the bar, because I was by myself. It took the server a long time to get to me and when she did she offered me a drink. I ordered a margarita. I had to ask twice more before someone finally got me a menu. The margarita was lackluster. I ordered a combo meal and added a taco- and asked for no cheese on any of my food. When the food came out, I noticed it all had cheese on it. When I pointed it out to the server, she took the taco back in a huff. As she started to walk away, I said "Is there cheese on the rest of this?" As she continued to walk away she said "The cheese is just on top, not inside." Oh, is that what I asked for? Just not inside? Nope, no cheese means no cheese- but she clearly wasn't concerned with that at all, so I just scraped the cheese off the top (along with all the sauce in the process) and ate it anyway. Disappointing. If it had been good, I might have forgiven that. But it was mediocre at best, and the service was poor. I was going to put hot sauce on top of it but the bottle was crusty and had no cap. That sounds like food poisoning waiting to happen, no thanks! I think I'll steer clear of this place the next time I'm in the area. Yech.

We recently ate here and thought food was good. Service was excellent, even though the cashier messed up on my change. I would have no hesitation about eating here again !!!!

I am from Southern California and I used to live in Mexico. When I came to Nashville for the first time, the last thing I expected the concierge at my hotel to ask me was whether I liked Mexican food. She sent me to a place called Jalisco's, where the last thing I expected to find was real Mexican food being served by real Mexicans. I ordered the al pastor tacos Jalisco style. When they came out I requested some salsa verde to go with my tacos. The salsa I got was not verde, but it was definitely delish. It was spicy but not too hot, and the taste of the chiles came through perfectamente. The pork was super tender and reminded me of Los Angeles and Tijuana, just the way I like it. The only thing that could have been better was the tortillas. They were a bit dry, but I imagine good tortillas are hard to come by in Nashville. If they had been made in-house, Jalisco's would have scored five stars from me, easy. I would say this place is doing a bang-up job of bringing a true ethnic flavor to a place that isn't fortunate enough to see a lot of ethnic diversity. A big shout out to the waiter from Jalisco, Mexico for holding steady in a town that is probably not always proud to have him. ¡Viva la raza, compa! ¡Que le vaya bien!

Went for lunch because I had a coupon. It was 1:00 and the lunch rush was over but they hadn't recovered. It took longer than you expect to get seated, to get water, to place our order, and for food to arrive. The salsa was fantastic. The rest of the food was just okay. Not steaming hot which I expect with Mexican food and not very flavorful. I had to add salt and salsa to the entire plate. Price was good and I'd go back but only if it was the only option other than fast food.

I gave this 5 stars to offset some of the low ratings by some people. I really don't understand all the negativity. Is it a perfect Mexican restaurant? No. However, it is one of the better ones in Nashville. I would give it probably slightly over 4 stars. 1. Every time I go, the service is always excellent. 2. Fresh salsa with actual cilantro, onions, and peppers. (you would think this would be standard at a Mexican restaurant, but in Nashville this is not so. Most of the time you get tomato sauce with spice thrown in). 3. Excellent prices in general, but it should be noted that there are food and drink specials every day of the week....not too shabby! Am I some kind of food expert? Not really, but I used to live in the southwest US (where there are WAY more quality Mexican restaurants), and I think that this restaurant would do pretty decently stacked up against restaurants from out there. If this restaurant was located in the Southwest, then I would probably give it 3 stars. Since this is Nashville and good Mexican restaurants(with decent prices) are few and far between, then I still stand by my original rating of slightly over 4 stars. In conclusion, if you are in Nashville and are looking for some great Mexican cuisine, then check out Jalisco. You won't be sorry.

My wife and I visit a lot of Mexican restaurants through our group (Spanish Meetup) every week. I arrived early this evening ahead of the rest of the group to check out the menu for vegetarian options. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. Cheese enchiladas was about it. :-( Later when the group was ready to order I asked the server if they could make a mushroom quesadilla. No - no way... they don't have mushrooms. Oooookay!!!??? But they could make a vegetarian dish with cactus leaves. Would I be interested in that? Ummm... no. We finally settled on veggie fajitas - not on the menu. To make a long story short, the fajitas were great but if they could do them, they needed to be on the menu that is woefully lacking on vegetarian options. My advice - go elsewhere if you are vegetarian.

Well anyone who knows me, knows I love "Quality" food n Mexican Food is my fave so I'm very picky when it comes to taste. I have dined at many Mexican Restaurants in many different states n I can honestly say that Jalisco is by far one of the BEST! They take pride in their business and it proves itself in every bite! The staff is amazing, great service and a home away from home atmosphere is really hard to find these days. At least 3 days a week you will find me in the bar where I'll be in my usual booth drinking Palomas n stuffing my bottomless pit while watching sports. I guarentee you will love this restaurant and if you don't I will give you a whippy and I'll eat the rest of whatever you didn't! LOL! :D

Amazing food and great service! Went on a Friday night and was promptly greeted at the host station by the gentleman who was my server. Server was attentive and the food arrived quickly. I had both the cheese dip and the chimichangas espesciales. Both were very good. Margaritas are also great. Would recommend to anyone.

Ick! This tasted like bad school cafeteria food. I came here on a Thursday afternoon at 2pm and it was totally empty. I thought it was just late after the lunch rush but its because the food, the atmosphere, and the service ALL SUCK!!! Find somewhere else folks! Seriously!

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Donelson. The others tend to taste more American and very store bought, if that is something you like I would avoid Jalisco. The Alambres is my favorite dinner item, but it is a lot of food, bring a friend who likes bacon.

Nothing says happy holidays like canceled flights and unexpected nights in a city you wouldn't visit anyway. Needless to say, I was pissed off at American Airlines and Mother Nature. After schlepping to a mediocre hotel I decided my weary body needed nourishment but not before it got some alcohol. Using my trusty Yelp app, I saw that there was a place just a few block away with the same name as my undergrad chimichanga and margarita hang out... so I ventured out... I knew I was in love when the menu said they served breakfast all day. Ay dios mios?! Huevos Rancheros for dinner?! Yes, please. I don't really remember the food except that it came out fast, was salty cheap and generally good. I had two margaritas and lounged to glorious sound of my Saints beating th Falcons...oh yes, these are the holidays...

I've eaten here a few times before. It's close to the airport for travelers. Has a cool view by the window. Food is well priced. Service has always been great. Food has always had some flavor. I can't really say anything to bad about it. Im not a fan of their salsa. It's very sweet. Not spicy. Never alot of people there. I don't know it's just a basic Mexican restaurant. Nothing really stands out. But i am satisfied when i leave. With my wallet and my stomach.

Oh man. Take it from a Texan, this place is GREAT!!! the food is exactly on target for authentic Mexican. The carne asada was perfectly seasoned and the carnitas were so tender and flavorful. No greasy imitation stuff here. Prices are good, the staff is friendly and quick, and the drink prices are great too. Thanks Jalisco for making this Texan feel at home!!! RECOMMENDED!!

Standard Nashville Mexican Menu, unremarkable except for the Camarones Diabla which is better than most. I eat this every time and it is consistent. Add a side of Nopales, canned sure, but nevertheless I'm addicted to these little green things. Top Shelf Margaritas will make sure you don't return to work after lunch. Service friendly and Punctual.

Jalisco is a good place for friends to meet over mexican fare. There is a lot of parking available and the drinks are reasonably priced. I have not tried the margeritas here but the food is pretty much like most of the other mexican restarurants in nashville area. Decent grilled pork, beef, brown rice and beans. If you are craving for mexican food and are near the donelson area, this is a good place. enjoy.

Had the Shrimp Quesadilla, very good. Service, Good. Why 5 stars? The freakin salsa was the best I've ever had! They swear there is no sugar in it, so great tomatoes must be the secret- heat was good for most people, the flavor was OUTSTANDING.

I had dinner here based on another review I read on Yelp, and because it was close to my hotel. I had the carne asada and it was quite good. It was served on a bed of nopales and grilled onions, which were also delicious. I'll even mention the refried beans and the rice because they were very flavorful. All this was $9.99 - not bad. I washed it down with a cold Dos XX and I was good to go. The place is typical casual Mexican restaurant decor with tables and booths. My server was friendly and attentive. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area.

The ground beef at this place was disgusting and tasted like it had been reheated at least three times. My wife's chimichanga was soggy and was obviously a microwave reheat.

  • Mike M.

Genuinely inauthentic mexican food that's great. The $5.99 lunch special of two burritos, one beef and one chicken, both smoothed in queso, way too large to eat in one sitting but re-heats well makes it worth occasionally getting panhandled in the parking lot.

    (4)
  • Gary R.

Small, unassuming authentic Mexican restaurant and food, in a quite strip center. If you stay, or have reason to be near the airport, this is a great find. VERY reasonably priced. Seriously the food was really great. I have had many great carnitas, including some of the best at Carnitas in Tijuana across from Caliente, but these May be the best I have ever had.

  • Jeff S.

When I was here it was not busy at all and therefore the service was excellent. I got a combo plate with a hard taco, burrito and a tamale. Everything was excellent, the beer was ice cold and all at a very reasonable price. I will definitely eat here again if I am ever in the area.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
