Used to go here and enjoy back when the people who originally ran it were there. Now, not so much. Went there twice in the last month or so to bland-ish food, bad drinks and horrible service. We will venture to OK Corral on Lebanon Rd. for much better of all three where Cinco De Mayo fails.

This is a totally run-of-the-mill Mexican joint. You could find this kind of restaurant anywhere and you always know they're a safe bet for decent food and large portions. Standard Mexican restaurant menu of the staples: tacos, enchiladas, salads, soups, fajitas... you name it, they have it on the menu. The food was good and the portions were huge so don't fill up on the chips and salsa that they bring you. The salsa was not very good but there's only a few Mexican joints that seems to make their own good salsa. Beers and margaritas are cheap and they have a full bar if you're so inclined. I'm not sure if this is a place that locals hang out at since it's only about 20 minutes outside of Nashville, but the place was packed when we came in around 9 p.m. on a Friday night. Seems to be a place that people around here love and since the food was good, I'd go back if I ever found myself in Hermitage again.

Medium level Mexican joint. Honestly, there isn't much to say. It has the typical large Mexican menu, average or even below average quality food and decent at best margaritas. I have been twice for lunch and both times it's been too greasy meat, half a taco filled with just lettuce and just ok salsa. There is better Mexican right up the street by the Starbucks- go there instead

So FAST! We ordered drinks and two entrees it was out and we were done with everything in 20 minutes! And it was delicious! You can't beat a pitcher of Pacifico for 4.99! Will be back, soon! :).

I don't know what it is with the places I've chosen recently, but I've been wavering between 3 and 4 stars a lot. 3 says A-OK and that's how I feel about Cinco de Mayo. My brother, boyfriend, and I went here on Saturday around 4:00 so it was pretty slow, not many people here at all. It's definitely one of those typical Mexican type restaurants and is kinda dingy and dark, but not in a gross way. The chips and salsa were pretty dang good, liked the flavor of the salsa. It was spicy, but not too crazy. I opted for a margarita on the rocks (boyfriend got the frozen) and both were super tasty. We got the guacamole to start out and I prefer mine more chunky, but this was completely smooth. After, I noticed the menu said guacamole dip, so I forgave them. Still tasted pretty good. For the entree, I got the Enchiladas Supreme which included 4 enchiladas: 1 bean, 1 cheese, 1 beef, and 1 chicken. All of them tasted pretty dang good, although the bean wasn't really my favorite since it didn't have a lot of seasoning. But the sauce that was over the top had a good flavor so that kind of made up for it. Wasn't overly spicy either, which I can appreciate since I'm a little sensitive to that. Overall this is a pretty decent Mexican restaurant with fair prices. I think for two people after taxes (with one margarita) it was only about $35, so definitely not terrible at all. The service is adequate too, definitely no complaints there. If I was in the area, I would definitely stop by again!

My husband and I ate here for dinner. He ordered the steak fajitas and I had two beef tacos and rice. The service was quick and our waitress nice and attentive. We had cheese dip which was good, but the chips tasted stale. My tacos and rice were very good, but my husband said the fajitas were so-so--the quality of the beef was not good and just not as flavorful as some other mexican restaurants we have eaten at. It comes across as somewhat dirty, but there were lots of people eating here. Honestly, I couldn't get past the bugs....there was a small one crawling on my menu and a dead fly laying on the window ledge (we were seated at a window seat). So, that kinda put me off, I'm afraid. Probably won't be back. I think Casa Fiesta in Antioch has better food. Our bill for 3 beef tacos, one order of rice, steak fajitas, cheese dip and one daiquiri was $31.

You can tell you are at a good Mexican restaurant when they have a wait to get a table, and this has happened multiple times when I've eaten at Cinco De Mayo. I love this place; the salsa is spicy, the food is consistently good, AND they have delicious sangria! I've had a variety of dishes off the menu, and am always pleased with my meal. Ask for the hot salsa if you are a fan of heat, it will light you on fire! I've been here multiple times with friends and it doesn't disappoint. The only dish I've ever had that was not their standard fare had a mole sauce on top that wasn't great (it's extremely difficult to perfect). But everything else has been excellent. They also have a lunch menu 7 days a week, something I've never seen before! Great job Cinco! :)

My girlfriend lives down the street from this joint so I have been many...many times. It has good Mexican food overall and the service is good. It's a little dingy and the bar isn't that inviting because...let's be honest...it's a Mexican restaurant. So...I have to choose a star. I wavered between 3 and 4...I went with 4 because it's still worth the money and it generally has a good ambiance. There's enough smiles on peoples' faces to bring me back many times in the future. If you are the owner and you are reading this, grab a Brillo pad and go to town...it needs it and you will probably make more dinero! :)

We have been regulars for a few years and dine here with friends once or twice a week. Everything is great as long as you pay and tip good. But when you have a complaint they don't want to hear it and treat you terribly. We recently found a fly in our pitcher of margaritas and their reply was "all nice restaurants have flies." They first offered us a glass of margaritas then the manager reluctantly agreed to take a pitcher off the bill after we called him to our table. No apologies or thanks for all our business. One of our guests also found a hair in her drink. We have been going there for a long time and do not appreciate being treated this way. We are not going back!

Great food terrible service and management though. I simply asked for a quesadilla but to add chorizo to it. I had just had this a week here an loved it. I drove all the way from Antioch to eat here because it was so good. We were met at the door by a rude host who wasn't busy but then who sat as like we a burden. The waiter was nice and was following orders from his boss and told me that they couldn't add chorizo to my quesadilla even though they just made it for me a week ago.

Seems like a pretty authentic atmosphere. Even though the service wasn't great (the waiter kept coming to our table every two or so minutes asking if we were ready to order or if he could take our plates when we were still eating, etc.), the food was great. A friend and I had the fajitas for 2 with steak & chicken. They were delicious, and there was enough fajita toppings for about 4 people! I would definitely recommend it, and I will be going back!

This place is the epitome of Nashville mexican food. I love their enchiladas and burritos. I've been several times and the food quality is pretty constant. Though the last time I was there, our waiter forgot about us, so I told him in Spanish that we needed food (It's all I could say in my elementary Spanish). The white cheese dip is definately worth trying. ******************* After writing this review, I think that I'll take my wife there for lunch today................ I just got back from Cinco's...the service was about the same. They don't look at you when you speak. I think it's a cultural thing. The food was great though. I had that #3 (cheese enchilada, beef taco and beef burrito) and my wife had a steak quesadilla. I tried to take some pics with my cell phone. If I can figure out how to post them from my phone I will.

We have been dining here many years, but will not be returning..the food on our last visit was mediocre, plus the gnats didn't help any either. The atmosphere is very noisy on the weekend nights,as to where you are practically screaming across the table.the staff are not very friendly or helpful, either.

Ah yes - fajitas, rice, and cheese dip. My taste test trifecta of Mexican food. The standard by which I judge any establishment that dares to sling the salsa. And Cinco de Mayo easily knocks all three out of the park. Having grown up in Texas, I consider myself an expert of enchiladas. A connoisseur of carnitas. A burrito bon vivant...well, you get the point. I like to throw down some serious comida mexicana. On all fronts, Cinco de Mayo really delivers. From fresh salsa to sizzling fajitas, every dish here is packed with flavor and infused with authenticity. Do you like to try a variety of dishes? The combination platters seem to offer endless arrangements of classic favorites. Oh, and the cheese enchiladas? Possibly worth committing a minor felony over. Also, if you like a bargain, make sure to come during their lunch time hours. Seven days a week, Cinco offers a discounted lunch menu that will fill you up for under $8. If you want some great TexMex, a casual atmosphere, and a happy hour that ain't too shabby, make sure to check out the fiesta that is Cinco de Mayo. Insider Tip: Watch where you park. This place is so popular, that the parking lot fills up fast. Surrounding establishments have been known to tow if you encroach on their territory.

For Nashville Mexican this is pretty good. They, like their sister location of White Bridge, have my favorite salsa in town. It has more flavor and consistency to it than any other. Their queso is pretty decent too, white cheese of course. I usually stick to the simple stuff, so I'm not sure on entrees. My friends that I've gone with have all been pleased, but they're also from the North. I don't really care for their guac, but it works as a decent garnish when I've tried friend's dishes. It is cheap, which I like, and never much of a wait either.

The atmosphere was nice and the service was excellent. I love chili poblanos, rice, and beans at mexican restaurants! I just didn't like the seasoning on my favorite dish. Sorry, but locals love it!

This is my second favorite Mexican joint in Nashville. When I lived in Hermitage, this place was a weekly pilgrimage for me and my husband. While it won't win any culinary prizes, the menu is somewhat large and prices very reasonable. The restaurant itself is big, so wait times are usually short. Service is fast, and the margaritas are cold. What more could you ask for?

  • Jen S.

Maybe for Nashville it's good Mexican food, but it's not good Mexican food to a Californian. The fajitas lacked seasoning and were sitting in wayyy too much oil/water in the skillet. The bean dip was weird but good, and the salsa was delicious.

Pretty much terrible. First off, they charge for refills of chips and salsa, which is a huge negative on my Mexican food scale. Second, the service was terrible. Our waitress spoke to us exactly twice, "Are you ready to order?" and "do you want desert?" She didn't even say anything when she dropped off the food. Southern hospitality at it's finest. Finally, the food was bad. Tasted like everything came from a can and was poorly seasoned. Will not be going back.

I just started coming back to the Nashville area, so obviously I wanted to drop into an old favorite. It has remained the same. For good Mexican food at a decent price this is the place to go. We came on a Friday and despite it being packed and being told we had a 15 minute wait we were seated in under 10 minutes. They were quick taking my order and quick to bring it out. I had the pollo encremado (spelling?) I substituted the chicken for steak. It was delicious. Mushrooms, steak, spinach (you don't notice it, so no worries if your not a spinach person.) They for got my tortillas so I had to ask for them. Other than that, there wasn't a down side to the service. The salsa is spicy, but not over bearing. The chips are a bit to crunchy. The margarita was strong. :D The queso dip is about the same as anywhere else. Overall it was all good and on par. It is quite feeling so pace yourself or prepare to feel like a lard when you leave. Enjoy!

We've been to the Cinco de Mayo in Brentwood on many occasions and had excellent experiences, so when we discovered a location 5 minutes from our house we were thrilled. We went for the first time and ended up being there 1.5 hours to have a basic meal. That was the first problem as it should not take that long. We had terrible service, having to practically harass our server to refill our waters. We were surprised they offered NO drink specials, when the other location always has some. Chips were stale, cheese dip was bland, and all of our meals were small portioned, burnt and poorly seasoned. We'd like to chalk it up to a one-time bad night, but it was such a bad experience that I'm not sure we'll even try to give it a second chance when there's 10 other mexican joints in the nearby area.

You want reasonably priced, yummy Mexican food and super fast friendly service? Eat at Cinco De Mayo in Hermitage! My only complaint is the booths are uncomfortable and the bathroom is pretty lacking. Luckily I've only had to use it maybe twice in the last 6 years! The waiters are always friendly, fast, and accomodating. Can get pretty busy at times, but never had to wait more than 10 minutes, and that is rare. Try it! You won't be sorry!!

When I try a Mexican restaurant for the first time, I always read the menu first. Not only for the selections, but also on how they describe them. I shiver with fear when they use terms like "mexican red sauce" or if the slather the entrees with "cheese sauce". To me, this is clear indication that the menu has been dumbed down and not at all authentic. Cinco de Mayo showed signs of this, but I was pleased that the dishes that I sampled had great flavors, and were prepared very well. PROS: 1) Very large beers if you order the "big" size 2) The salsa very good 3) reasonable pricing 4) Extremely fast service CONS 1) It is about what I have come to expect from an Americanized Mexican restaurant 2) Chips were cut think, and weren't fresh 3) The pepper in my Chili Rellano was flavorless

I am currently living in Hermitage, and when I am craving Mexican food and not wanting to make the drive out to Las Palmas, I usually order food to go from Cinco. The food is good here and they give large portions. I get a huge bag of chips with my to go order every time; whether or not i order a dip. Must say, I'm not too crazy about their salsa. Its good and fresh, but I prefer the red smooth salsa Las Palmas serves. I usually order chicken tacos here and for some reason, its a bit watery? Odd, I know, but I still eat it anyway because its still good and I'm starving. Overall, Cinco is delicious, fast, and cheap. Definitely a must if you are in the area and craving margaritas and queso.

I have only had the fish tacos from this location but I am definitely a fan of them. I add pico, lettuce, refried beans, and rice...its delish and under ten bucks a person. Their salsa has good and bad days. Don't use the red sauce on the fish tacos...consider yourself warned.

It's close to the house so we go there more than others, however, sometimes its good and sometimes not so good. I signed up for their emails and a day later they sent me an expired coupon (2 months expired) so i called to make sure they would honor it, and guess what? NO! Too bad for me that I got an expired coupon is the response I got!! Guess I'm goin' down the road to spend my money.

What's kept me away from Cinco for so long is the location, fortunately since we were off yesterday, we made the trek out to Hermitage. To sum it up, Cinco offers very solid Mexican food at a great price. The sign of any good Mexican joint is their salsa, and Cinco's does not disappoint. It's served cold with chunky bits of tomatoes, cilantro, and just the right amount of heat. I absolutely despise warm salsa. The lunch portion of their fajitas is enough food to feed 2 people, perfectly grilled chicken, caramelized onions and tomatoes served with a plate of guacamole, pico, and rice & beans. Our favorite part of the meal was their homemade flan. $2.50 gets you a piece of very dense, thick, and flavorful flan, make sure to ask for it without the whipped cream and chocolate sauce, that defeats the dessert.

Great food. We got lucky when we went there they had a special on pitchers of margaritas. Not badly priced, friendly wait staff. The salsa always tells you how good a place is going to be and they had awesome salsa.

I don't know why I love the Mt. Juliet Cinco de Mayo location more, but Hermitage is almost always less crowded and convenient off the Interstate. This is some good Mexican at affordable prices.

Maybe for Nashville it's good Mexican food, but it's not good Mexican food to a Californian. The fajitas lacked seasoning and were sitting in wayyy too much oil/water in the skillet. The bean dip was weird but good, and the salsa was delicious.

I couldn't love this place any more! Their food, margaritas, and service is great. Chips & salsa are great too. Guacamole is just ok though.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
