Amazing meal! Sat with a group of 10 in the private dining area. Wonderful waiter from Philly area- extremely attentive. Outstanding food! Pricey, though- watch out! Also, husband was dying for a hamburger and it wasn't on the dinner menu- they ground one for him and wow was it delicious!

This was my first time dining here.... Made reservations for Mother's Day-- the place was packed and was glad we didn't have to wait for our table. The food was really good - see pics for details. We didn't have to wait long for our food and all of it was served hot and fresh. They serve complementary warm fresh bread -bonus! And they gave us a box of chocolates for Mother's Day. Nice gesture. Decor: nice and clean. Nothing fancy or over the top while nothing offensive either. The reason I took off a stars: -They do not have changing tables in the restrooms and I had to change my sons poopy diaper in a hallway floor - dressed in my Sunday's best - sitting on the floor with people walking by was not what I thought I would have to do at a "fine steakhouse" -Service was very rushed. Although Mother's Day that's no excuse to be rushed or be cut off while ordering. At the end I clearly ordered two desserts to go but due to the server running a mile a minute he only brought out one and when I tried to tell him he just ran off...so it took about another 30 minutes to get out of there because he would not stand still for a brief moment to listen.

I am very disappointed in what I was expecting to be a great meal. I am, without a doubt, a carnivore. I love a good steak. Those who read my reviews know that we are foodies and at times can be very picky about where we eat out. I will try a lot of different locations, but if I really don't like your service, food and especially the cleanliness, I am not coming back. Other than that I think I am pretty easy going with what I expect when eating out. Some are good, some are not. The Butcher Shop Steakhouse was mediocre at best when it came to the preparation and seasoning of the food. The steak was, okay, my daughters chicken was, less than desirable and my wife's pork chop was slightly dry at best. Some of these items, I will admit, if like all the other things I will give you a second chance. However, when you combine this with a price tag that is ridiculously high and service that is slow, I doubt you will see us back again any time soon. There may be a time in the future, the distant future, when my wife and I may be convinced to give it another try, but I doubt it. This meal was supposed to be my 'WELCOME HOME" from a long deployment, but instead it was just a 'glad your back.' The one positive thing I can say is the ambiance, when we were there, was very nice. Quiet and relaxing along with spacious seating. Overall, I suggest trying another place out unless you are just looking for convenience.

Eh. This wasn't a wonderful experience, but it wasn't a terrible one either. The waiter was just a little absent and maybe a bit saucy. The salmon was good, but not 27 dollars worth of good. The bathrooms also seemed to be a little unattended. Maybe this was just a rough day, but overall, not too impressed :(.

Not the best Steakhouse I've been to. Prices are good, but quality not the best. I'd rather spend a few more bucks and go to a big chain like Flemings or Ruth Chris where the quality is better. I ordered the T-Bone Steak Georgie. All steaks come with a salad appetizer and a loaded baked potato. The salad was blah. Way too much cheese, and you can tell they are stingy with the tomatoes; only 2 grape tomatoes and I know they count because we all had exactly 2. The Fat Free Raspberry Vinaigrette is pure sugar. The steak itself was well prepared; I asked for rare, and that's what I got. But the steak really was kinda bland. Getting it Steak Georgie style helped, but not much. The loaded baked potato was good. Butter, sour cream, cheese, and bacon. Probably the highlight for me. We shared an order of cream spinach. I'm going to sound like a fat kid, but I really don't like cream spinach that taste like sauteed spinach and that's what this was. Not my cup of tea. We finished with the Sizzling Apple Pie. This was actually pretty good. It's served with one scoop of vanilla ice cream, but our server hooked us up with an extra scoop since we were all sharing. Very good pie and the ice cream was great. Service was good. Our waiter was nice and attentive. Food came our pretty quickly.

Instead of ordering a full dinner, I opted to dine on the Greek salad and crab cakes. The salad was perfectly portioned and the crab cakes were beautifully done. It was just the right size for me and I loved every bite!

Had their Sunday lunch for the first time. Choice was meatloaf or fried chicken. I had the fried chicken. Just like my grandmothers. Delicious! Huge portions. Great service. A great value.

I am so, so disappointed to do this, but I had my husband's birthday here back in February and it was an absolute terrible idea. We had around 15 people, so we expected it would take awhile to get our food because the restaurant was packed for a Saturday night. Although we expected to wait awhile, I never dreamed it would take 2 1/2 hours to get our food. Our waiter was non-existent for most of the evening, along with letting our wine glasses stay empty for quite awhile. That is a big no-no in my book. My girls and I like to put away some bottles of wine, and especially like to do so when we are celebrating a birthday! Will definitely choose another venue next time.

Have you ever dated a good ol' southern boy from the country? I have and it still ranks as one of my top 5 experiences in life. That being said, there are a million reasons why we would never work out (i.e. I'm terrified of tractors, bugs, snakes, and not being 5 minutes away from a nail salon.). The Butcher Shop is definitely not one of the reasons we wouldn't work out. What am I talking about? Well, let me explain. The Butcher Shop is a place where the good ol' boys hang out...even if they are in their 80s and 90s I still think they qualify as "good ol' boys." You know, southern gentleman who sit around telling hunting/fishing/war stories and still open the door for ladies and call you "ma'am" in an adorable southern drawl even if they are older than you sheerly out of respect and because they have manners? Maybe I should try to make this a game...how many times can I say that phrase in this review? Anyways, I don't think it is sheerly coincidence that the Butcher Shop is next door to the Agricenter...because that is also where the good ol' boys hang. So once they are done with the horses/hunting convention/agriculture whatever they can come over here for a steak and drink. And I loooooooove me some steak and alcohol. I think it is truly a winning combination and try to partake in meals like this as often as possible. So why am I giving it 3 stars? Well, I really would like to give it 4...but they need some serious renovations in this place. And considering you cannot walk out of there without spending less than $50 a person...I just think the decor should be updated to reflect the priceyness of the joint. It is just *so dark* in there. I know guys like that vibe, but I could barely see! And it just seems...old. And not in an "ohhh how charming" way but an...linoleum floors and bad upholstery way that you see at rundown hotels. But the filet? Oh honey, the filet is goooood. Buttery and actually medium rare. (I am so tired of restaurants giving me medium when I ask for medium rare.) Definitely one of my favorite steaks in Memphis. But the sides were just OK and the artichoke dip appetizer didn't have a bang to it. We sat at the bar and the bartender was an absolute doll and while I left having a very good experience...I just didn't experience that "wow" factor that makes me want to give it a 4 or a 5. I'll be back, no doubt, because I love that steak...but it will probably be when someone else is paying.

Went there with a big party and it was great! A lot pricier than I expected but it wasn't crazy expensive or anything! Food and service was very good! They were so quick and so friendly! I enjoyed my meal I got the chicken and pasta but I tried my husbands pork chops and a piece of steak from a friends plate and all of it was amazing!!! Great!!!!

Once you get past the fact that this place is like walking back into 1991, the service and quality of food is excellent. No wait at prime wait time (Friday at 6:30), we sat right down. Greeted immediately by a veteran server. He was a professional in every way. Our steaks were grilled to perfection, our glasses never less than half empty. Suggestion - Eat outside. A suggestion to the owner - Update the decor to match the food and service, and I will give 5 stars!

My first visit to this Steakhouse was absolutely enjoyed! The food and service enhanced a delightful evening out with another couple. The difficulty finding parking in the rather large parking lot was explained on entering. The place was packed. The service for a social meal did not suffer as a result. I suspect that anyone wanting to eat and not socialize might not agree. Beverages including water were on the table promptly, refills also. Our appetizer with extra plates for sharing arrived just before the bread with butter. Salads followed soon after. Unfortunately they use iceberg lettuce. ICK! The main course arrived after a suitable leisurely pause. My rare prime rib was perfectly cooked. The asparagus tender but not over cooked, with a nice sauce. I have to give extra mention to the fact that this restaurant has truly rare prime rib into the evening rush! Finished plates were removed in a way that kept the table uncluttered without making us feel rushed. There was no space for dessert unfortunately, even with leftovers containered and bagged to take with us. A note for anyone who does gluten free. The staff are not knowledgeable on the subject but very helpful if you ask all the right questions. I was really tempted to give five stars here. As you will have read by now, there were a couple of little things noted by the" Picky Princess" part of me. They definitely didn't take the pleasure out of this visit but.........

The steaks are really very good. I just wish management would tweak a few things about this place to make the whole experience more enjoyable. If you like great steaks, you will find them here. If you like steaks and loaded baked potatoes, you're in luck. But if potatoes aren't your thing, get ready to dig a little deeper into your pocket. All steaks and most other entrees come with a house side salad and a baked potato with all the usual toppings. Don't what the potato? No problem. You can substitute cream spinach, sauteed asparagus or steamed broccoli... for $3.00 dollars! Really? Is steamed broccoli so spacial that it warrants a $3.00 charge? I don't think so. But that's what I ordered because I don't eat potatoes. What about the house salad? Yes, you can substitute the side Cesar or Greek salad for yet another charge of $3.00. Even though the Cesar is more my fancy, I went with the house salad, sans cucumbers. One thing I do like about this place is the meat case and grill positioned right next to the dining room. You can hear and smell the steaks cooking from your table. You can literally walk right on over there and pick out the exact steak you would like prepared for you, if you chose to do so. It's a beautiful thing. My salad was nothing special. The broccoli... I hardly touched it. The steak, however, was perfectly cooked and had really great flavor. Being the flesh lover that I am, I was happy overall. For the money, however, I would rather go to some place else.

The Butcher Shop came highly recommended by some colleges up north so I had to try it. I'm writing this about an hour after eating, and feeling a bit ill on the commode doing things no regular yelper should be doing. Now I can't say that it was the food here or at lunch earlier, but I have my strong suspicions. First impressions were great. The place is nicely decorated, and the staff is courteous. Expect white table clothes and linen, and the beautiful smell of seared beef on the exposed grill. Do not expect amazing service here though. The waiter kept the drinks full, so props there, but there were a few slips. The bread came out 20 minutes after being seated along with our salads. My colleague has a gluten intolerance and requested no croutons, but low and behold it came with croutons. I had the Greek salad and it was really tasty, but I'm questing the rinse method on the greens at the moment. The entrées came out while we were half way through our salads. It was like they wanted us out of there. We pushed through the salads and let our food sit for a few minutes. My steak was done as requested, medium rare, and it was a decent steak, but nothing note worthy. In the end, the Butcher Shop could be 4 star if I didn't feel ill immediately after and the service was corrected. The staff needs a little bit of training to really up the service, and that's an easy thing to correct with a little bit of attention.

The Butcher Shop is a change of pace style steak house. You pick your steak/seafood and you have the choice to have it cooked over an open fire pit or you can cook it yourself. If you like the idea of cooking the food your self then it is a fun experience, otherwise, put on your nice suit and stay seated. You should experience this style at least once.

I came here for Valentine's day and I was incredibly impressed. I didn't know I could get chicken so succulent and delicious at a steakhouse! Also they had a young man walking around playing the violin. It was a very nice touch and I loved it. We wanted him to play "Devil Goes Down to Georgia" because we are trolls and wanted to see if he would actually play something like that in such a fancy place, but alas, he didn't know how to play it. Our dreams shattered, we returned to our excellent meal. We went back a second time and loved it as well. It's expensive so I won't be going too often (maybe on a Friday if I can ever remember!), but it is definitely a place I will want to go to for special occasions.

Open for LUNCH on FRIDAYS! You walk in and get a burger made... any way you like it... with all the fixin's!! It's amazingly cheap too! The burger meat is so juicy, tender, and delicious. The onion rings are HUGE and also delicious... crisp on the outside and tender onions on the inside. I love places like this who only serve lunch on one day of the week. I think it makes the meal more exciting! I will say theres usually no parking spots left when lunch rolls around. You better get there early or expect a line of people!

Went with a group for a retirement dinner party. I can only give this place two stars. For the cost, this place is definitely Not worth it. The good: The drink (the martini special) was tasty ($9). The bread was warm and tasted fresh. And the baked potato that came with the meal was good. And the servers were courteous. But thats about it. The decor is definitely lacking. Service is slow. The appetizers came before the bread came out. Ordered a $30 6 oz filet, which comes with a baked potato. It took a long time to come out, and when it finally did, the food presentation was unimpressive and the steak was cold. Someone else at our table said theirs was also cold. The steak tasted dry so I asked what sauce they had, and i asked if he could bring me some bernaise. Since our waiter hadnt come back to check on us, I told the other waiter who brought me the sauce about my steak being cold. He said he would take care of it and took my dish. When the steak came back (10 mins later, after most people were almost done eating), it was the same steak and it was still cold. The bernaise was also cold at this point, but I wasn't about to ask for another one and have to wait even longer...so I just put the cold sauce on top of the cold steak - then added lots of salt since the steak was pretty much unseasoned - and ate it. At the end of the meal, they brought the check and didnt offer dessert...a pet peeve of mine. It took forever to get the check back - no lie, like 1/2 hr. Oh and to add insult to injury, they charged me $2.50 for the bernaise sauce. My husband had crab cakes for an appetizer (they were ok), and had a chicken salad as an entree which he didnt really like. He didnt bother ordering a steak bc he had been there a few times previously and said he never liked it, it was just a waste of money. Another of his coworkers said the same. Having tried it myself, I agree. For these kind of prices, this was extremely disappointing. If you want a decent steak, good service, and a good dining experience then skip this place and go to Flemings.

Delicious. We went for my birthday and I am so glad we did. I had the 6 oz filet and it was cooked perfectly. The decor wasn't nearly was "dated" as I expected it to be. The prices were far more reasonable than I expected. The waiter was very attentive and I enjoyed my meal (and the company) very much.

Excellent as always, sure it's a bit dated/dark but good meat cooked well over lump charcoal can't be a bad thing right?? In the end what matters most is it's very good food and it's clean with much better prices than you wouldn't at other "fancy" steak places.

I've been here three times now and they've never been able to cook a steak properly. The first time was with a rather large party, and after the meal I asked other people in the party and sure enough, we all had the same complaint - everyone who ordered steak got it cooked too long. As a result, management gave me a certificate for my next visit. It happened again - I ordered medium-rare, I got medium-well. The only reason I went back a third time was because someone I knew was having a party there and again, my steak was way overcooked. I don't expect it to be completely red but it also shouldn't be absent of any pink or red in the middle if I'm ordering medium-rare. Sure enough, I made friends with someone who used to be a waitress there and it turns out the cooks (or at least the ones she knew of) didn't care about doneness at all. No wonder I had so many issues. I'd expect that kind of thing at maybe a Ryan's or some other place serving $5 sirloins, but not at a restaurant selling $29 filet mignons. I've heard they're great for lunch but I can at least tell you their dinner is to be avoided at all costs.

I have been here 3 times in the last 12 months and each time I kept hoping to have the experience it expected. The quality and service has diminished over the years. The food is overpriced. And their chefs don't seem to understand the meaning of Pittsburgh rare or medium rare. They messed up everytime.

Very good steak house. Was taken here while in town, by a local, and I can see why. They serve very nice cuts of beef, you can grill them yourself over a charcoal pit, or of course let them do their job and cook it for you:) I had the stuffed filet, a very thick cut, stuffed with grilled mushrooms, topped with Gorgonzola cheese, baked potato, and salad. Very nice restaurant and staff.

Ate here with my husband and parents because someone had given them a gift certificate. For $104 after using a $50 gift certificate, you too can have salads drenched in dressing, a baked potato (unless you want to sub a vegetable for $4 extra), and subpar steaks. My husband upgraded to a Caesar salad (for $3 extra), and we are pretty sure it had ranch dressing, not Caesar. The prices here are simply outrageous for the quality of the food. Restaurant has no atmosphere, is dated, and our server was clearly overworked judging by the number if tables he was attending to. For close to $40 a person, we will go to Ruth's Chris next time.

Yummy! I finally went on a Friday at lunch, I've been hearing about the hamburger buffet and I'm totally hooked with just one visit! It's totally crazy, crowded, and you'll have to park in the next lot over if you get there one minute after 12:00 but, did I say 'yummy'? The burgers are huge and literally hot off the grill! The onion rings are very good, but didn't try the fries, maybe next week! I had a meeting in a private room, so seating was not an issue for me, but the dining room looked totally bombarded, but everyone was laughing and carrying on and in spite of the crowd, people were helpful (in directing this newby to the proper line for food) and the place was buzzing with great conversation as opposed to a TV, which may have been on in the bar, but I don't think that's why this crowd was there! Wow, thanks for a great lunch!

This place is spiraling down. There is no hope if utilizing smug servers like Matthew- 2 weeks on the job and he hasn't figured out that we're the ones paying the bill. Where's the courtesy and service??? Service with Uniform and all doesn't guarantee that your $400 bill will be well received. We will not be returning and advise patrons to save your money. We will eat at Long Horns next time!

Went there for company dinner. My hubby and I got a steak, potato, and a house salad. The salad looked bagged with ONE slice of cucumber. Not impressed. Potato was good but a little salty. The steak was good but not great. Was disappointed. Overall...I probably wouldn't go back.

TL;DR: Don't go for dinner. It seems lunch is a better shot. We sat down on a Sunday night, and the restaurant was basically empty. The salads are delicious. The produce is fresh and crisp and the honey mustard dressing was very tasty. My favorite part of the meal . . . The bread was, well, bread: the softened butter was a nice touch for dipping. No whipped hydrogenated oil in sight! The steak experience was disappointing for two of us. My filet mignon was raw in the middle, not rare. I ate around it anyway; I didn't want to see them re-fire and burn the already charred outside and get the middle to rare. But a true shame considering the small size of a filet. Another person in my party's rib-eye was nearly raw in the middle despite its being ordered medium rare. A new steak was brought out, cooked to the proper temperature. That's nice and all, but come on, guys. It's a steakhouse! These things shouldn't happen, *period*. All in all, I was fairly disappointed. I won't be back.

Ok this place gets one star because I did not actually get to eat here. I have never been to this location I was a fan of the one downtown. But, the night before Thanksgiving we decided to give it a try and go here for a late dinner with friends. I called before we left the house to make sure how late they were open...being the night before a holiday... and I was told they would be open until 10. We showed up to eat about 9 and the place was of course dead. A guy greeted me at the door and told me sorry they were closed. I told them I had called before I came and was told they would be open until 10 which was an hour away. He was apologetic and went to go get a manager. The manager could really have cared less about me driving all the way out here to eat at his restaurant. His defense was I have no idea who you could have talked to and did not offer anything to me just pretty much and oh well. This really turned me off to this place I loved the food at the old location downtown but i will not waste my time driving out to this location again.

Overall I found the Butcher Shop to be a pretty decent Steak for the money. The waitress was attentive and the prices were inexpensive. My only complaint was I asked for Medium Rare and she must have heard Medium Well, but I enjoyed it. Being able to watch them cook the steaks on a big grill was an interesting experience.

Have been here a few times, and every time the food is consistently good. As someone who has tried all of Memphis' finer steakhouses, including Ruth Chris, Flemings, and Folks Folly - Butcher Shop is one of the best. I'd put it only second to Folks Folly, but since you get your sides included with the meal, it makes it a bit cheaper. Great meal. Great steak. Great atmosphere.

The Butcher Shop is a great place to have a good steak- they range from $14-24. I like the atmosphere it's spacious with a nice bar area. The "cool factor" is you can cook your own steak on the big grill in the center of the restaurant or you can have the chef prepare it. I personally like mine cooked- after all I am dining out. Some people are picky about their steaks so they like the cook it themselves option. It's also a great place for groups. They have several private dining rooms. We had our rehearsal dinner here years ago and had a great experience.

Catching up on my hometown reviews. Our go to steak house 5 or 6 times a year. rarely a wait, nice big bar w several tables. Fireplace and fire pit to watch em cook is nice. My fav is Gorgonzola stuffed filet w rosemary..medium ...$28ish w side and salad - upgrade for the gratin taters or cream spinich....gotta do classic sides here! Blue cheese salad is fresh n crisp. Usually pass apps n dessert but spin artichoke dip good and dinstuhls cashew crunch cheesecake yummmm. Way less$$ than Ruth's Chris, folks folly or Flemings ( though for that $$$$ flemings is my pic - sorry guys ff just doesn't wow me even though I like to support local first ) is butcher shop Peter Lugers? Course not but it's much closer and priced right.....now about Lugers and that bacon....sigh.....

Went for a company dinner here and the steak was ok. Not the reaction I typically get from a famous or a real good steak house. It's not a Outback, but doesn't fare for the $30+ a plate price tag. I asked for a medium rare fillet. The meat was cooked right, but it just didnt have that tender taste to it. Which it means, the meat grade was probably a BLLAHHHazzzzzz. So keep looking steak lovers.

This restaurant used to be great, now the service was lousy and very unprofessional, they no longer have Coke products, do not carry some of the premium beers, and do not give you much of what they have... We were ignored, food took a long time to come out, dishes not cleared off table, steak was mediocre, baked potato inedible... Bland and unmemorable for the prices they charge... 27$ for a mediocre steak is too much... Would not recommend

The Butcher Shop has been a household Memphis name for many years, but most people associate this restaurant with its downtown location. For those of you who live in the 'burbs (like most of us) who are uninterested in making the trek to downtown Memphis, the Cordova location should suit your needs just fine. As the name suggests, this restaurant caters to carnivores. My nit-pickiness regarding my 8 oz. filet mignon is that I ordered it medium, but it was served medium rare. Not a deal breaker. My loaded baked potato made up for it. My favorite part of the meal was our well-chosen appetizer: crab-stuffed mushrooms. This is a must-have dish if you visit The Butcher Shop. My greatest complaint is that we had a table of about 15 loud-mouthed, screeching hooligans next to us, but this wasn't the fault of the restaurant, of course. There were also a few servers who kept vacuuming near our table, which triggered my germ phobia; but again, not a deal breaker. Meals are reasonably priced and service is excellent. The Butcher Shop is a good date place if you're not trying to knock your partner out with romanticism but you'd like to take him or her out for a hearty and filling meal.

My husband and I went here for their lunch option not too long ago, and this place was killer. For just $6.50 you can get your choice of a cheese burger, hamburger, chicken, salmon or blackened catfish. This is insanely cheap- especially when you actually try the burger. Freaking delicious. The waiter informed us that they use the trimmings from the steaks to make the burger meat. It definitely reflects in the way of taste. These things are juicy, flavorful and delicious. They also happen to be quite massive, and I couldn't even finish my entire sandwich. I am a member of the clean plate club, have been all my life. This is huge. Especially since I am admitting my defeat in a public forum. The lunch option is kind of like a buffet if you will. You get a plate, toppings and a bun and then the chef will put the steaming hot beef patty right atop your bun. Mmmm delicious. The service was wonderful. Fast and friendly despite the obvious lunch rush. Judging by the crowd, this lunch spot is definitely not a secret.

Sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive and served a good cocktail. The salad was a bit watery but the bread was freshly baked and hot. The baked potaoe was excellent as was the 8 oz. filet though it was slightly overcooked. I asked for medium rare and got medium.

I love the Butcher Shop! Their filet mignon is by far the best in Memphis along with their Texas toast. This is a good place to go for a business dinner, birthday or an event with a large amount of people. I would recommend this for anyone. The service is nothing but the best

The Butcher Shop has been around since the early 80's, satisfying Memphis diners at both their downtown location and the newer spot in Cordova. The beef is aged 4 weeks before being cut, in house, and it's of the highest quality. They cook them over hickory smoked charcoals, resulting in a mouthwatering, very tender and juicy steak. My personal favorite is the Gorgonzola and Portabella Stuffed Filet, cooked medium. Oh wow...talk about delicious. But all the cuts are wonderful, from the Porterhouse to the bone in New York strip. You can't go wrong. The prices are reasonable - about $30 for an entree steak with a side. And the atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a great place for a nice evening out.

I'm not much of a meat eater but they have the best salads and salad dressing. Really good blue cheese. And the side dishes are yummy. Love the creamed spinach. Service is always excellent.

The Butcher Shop is an often looked over choice when my fiance and I are going out to eat, and that really is a shame. The steaks are good, and if memory serves me correctly they are not quite as expensive as somewhere like, say, Ruths Chris. The gratin potatoes are excellent. The decor is nice and they even have *bonus* - a patio that is quite nice in warmer months. (Where else is there outside dining in Cordova???) The spinach artichoke dip is hands down the best in Memphis. I've even written to the Commercial Appeal trying to get the recipe; to no avail. On Fridays the Butcher Shop opens for lunch and serves what arguably could be the best hamburger in town. (its a close tie with the cheeseburger @ J. Alexanders) The burgers are made from steak scraps that have been ground up and are very flavorful and juicy.

I love great steak...well any good food for that matter. I'm writing about 2 occasions. First, my anniversary. Wife got the fillet medium well, closer to well, done perfectly. Me, rib eye, medium, extra seasoning, done perfectly. Came with a great salad(and I don't really like salads) and a baked potato, fully loaded. Everything was FANTASTIC!!!! Our waiter was very helpful and even brought a few wine samples for us to try for the ultimate experience. We went with the Shiraz. Everything was soooooo great. It did cost about $20 more than the national steak chain but that extra $ is well worth a perfect meal. Everything is cooked on a 6x15 foot hickory charcoal grill. You can cook your own if you'd like. The patio is also nice on a not-so-hot summer day. Next, every Friday they have burgers at lunch from 11-2:30. These are NOT your average ground chuck, oh no. These are the trimmings off the fillets, new york strips, rib eyes, etc. They save them all week, grind them up and serve 1/2 pound burgers on Friday. It's like a buffet, you come in the front, get a plate, bun, toppings, chips, then the cook will put a burger on your bun right off the grill. I personally ask for one done medium because they normally cook them all the way. A bit dry with no seasonings so medium is much more tender. They can come with cheddar slices. Burger not your thing? You can get a pork chop, chicken breast, or fish fillet for the same price. I think it's about $6.50. You can get steak fries for another $2 and a drink for about the same. The burger is more than enough to full me up, a basket of fries is enough for at least 2 or 3 people. It's great for a luncheon or just to pamper yourself after a hard week. Or, just to get, quite arguably, the best burger in town.

on germantown parkway near the shelby showcase arena sits the butcher shop steakhouse. At the butcher shop, you can select your steak or cut of meat from the case. They even let you season and cook it yourself if you want on the big grill in the middle. The day i went, i opted to let the chefs do it for me. For the price they charge, i figured they had to be pretty decent at cooking it. i got some specialty steak with blue cheese in the middle. It was suggested by the waitperson that i have it cooked at medium rare to medium because that doneness suited the preparation that i had picked. normally, i'm a medium well girl (sorry, i don't like the cow to still be mooing at me). i sat close to the kitchens and grills so i saw all the prepping of the food. when my food was brought to me, it was good and hot. the steak was decent. it had a nice flavor. it was not the best steak i have ever had but it was good. i had a baked potato with butter and sour cream and a salad with ranch. the prices were high but not like folk's folly and ruth chris's steakhouse. the service was decent and we were seated fairly quickly. i think going at an off time for dinner probably helped. i'm sure that they have nights where long waits are required. The Butcher Shop is a decent option if you want a steak and want the control of cooking it yourself. I, personally, would rather someone else cook it for me and me just stuff my face.
